Review Swagath - New Delhi

Sushil Chauhan
Tonight, I enjoyed a family dinner, and the experience was just alright. The crowd was minimal, and the choices for both drinks and food were limited. On the positive side, the food quality was good. It can be considered a satisfactory place for a family outing
Anupreet Borkar
This is one of the best restaurants in South Delhi for Malvani sea food. I go there only for the sea food. It's fresh, delicious and good quantity. Highly recommended for the sea food.
Sammy Miller
Little expensive but value for money, they have 3 floor for dining. Food quality is good, they prepare fresh sea food. Service staff is very humble.
Ajay Kumar
Good fight, one of the best restaurants in Defence Colony.
Shilpa Agarwal
The restaurant authentic Mangalorean and Chettinad Food. There are happy hours for alcohol lovers from 11.30 am to 11.00 pm which applies to Beer and Classic Cocktails. Although Sol kadhi was mentioned in the menu but it was not available. If you order Tequila Sunrise cocktail do stir it really well. And since it's not classic cocktail so you won't get one on one free. Paneer 65 was Andhar style , delicious!! Appam Stew was ok. Appam could have been more thin and light. But the stew was good. Mr. Mustak , Mr Sanjeev, Mr. Sanjay Manna and Mr. Kausher were very helpful at serving and guiding us.
Hemant Grover
Really good Indian food, one of the best breads including basic tandoori roti , lacha parantha , misi roti, nans . Always a satisfying meal.

Visited in december on recommendation of my senior , saw live crabs there. Ordered chinese and the food was above my expectation. Had soup, chilli paneer and fried rice, each item was so well prepared that it cannot be described in words.
Joanne Wallbank
We were very impressed with the service , the food was great and the Captain and his staff were very friendly and helpful.

This place is always great if you are looking for traditional Mangalorean food, friendly staff and quite a quick service. The place is situated on a few floors so not suitable for people with mobility challenges.
Sharda Almadhi
Very tasty food. A normal budget. Service and food portion is also nice.
Deepti Sharma
Loved the authentic food and had an amazing night with family, their 1 on 1 is a crowd puller
SUNIL MEHTA

Authentic South Indian food...Awesome Food.... Yummy Fish Gassi and Chettinad Mutton....

I think this is the best place to eat out in South Delhi .... The restaurant offers you an extravagant menu to choose from to eat .... Very centrally located and is a very spacious, which allows it to cater a sizable amount of people together.... My favourite is the Butter chicken and it's colour with Butter Naan ... In the coastal section I like the Chettinad chicken being a hard core Non vegetarian .... The staff is very efficient - courteous and knowledgeable.... The service is prompt despite the rush and the place has a Buzz all the time which makes it a happening place to eat ... Very strongly recommend to visit ....

Suffocating, pathetic lettuce salad, vegetarian food very ordinary, waste of money

Went for a lunch here on Friday.
We ordered following:
Chicken sukka ( from south indian menu) - It was average, too much thick coconut paste masala was there and we expected less of coconut.
Chicken 65 - best of all starters. It was marinated chicken fried.
Chicken tandoori - it was good , can be ordered.
Chicken malai tikka - nothing fancy. Quite normal.
Surmai Fish fry - It was tasty. If u like fish, try this boneless fish fry.
Keema mutter - it was also good but not that awesome i was expecting.
Chicken handi - it was perfect . Best among gravies.
Hot and sour chicken soup - not like one i like. It was not the red one.
Lemon coriander chicken - too tangy and i loved it. Just a clear chicken soup.

Overall a good place to have food.
Ambience average.
Staff is nice.

P.S. I cudnt click any pic as staff served the entire dishes.

Nice place, courteous staff, good food. I would recommend visitors to try the Ghee roast Chicken. Didn’t like the Swagath Special Squid although the waiter recommended it. Overall, the place is definitely worth a visit. The food certainly has got character.

This is one of the finest restaurant for fine dining. They serve amazing food. Shahi panner is awesome. Dal makhani is out of the world.

If u re A south indian lover, dont miss appam with chana.

An upmarket restaurant with excellent seafood options. We had a great experience on every level. We were impressed by the fine ambience, the professional service with a smile, the high quality of food and nice presentation of our meals. Delightful!
Vivek Gahlawat
Been to this place many a times and the food is tasty and the amvaiance is okay as well, the staff is well spoken and quick. On top of that they have happy hours for beer lovers.
Tavleen K
Comfy old school family restaurant. Like their Indian food, chettinad cuisine. Must try dishes include butter chicken, mutton Hyderabadi dry and uppam. They also have happy hours from 12 noon to midnight!
Foody.moodyy
As the name suggests it is indeed a welcoming restaurant. It truly signifies the essence of a fine dining restaurant. The most beautiful ambience, with a wide variety of delicious cuisines. It is worth spending every penny. The service is top notched as well.
A MUST VISIT
Ashutosh Roy Choudhury
Swagath truly signifies the essence of a fine dine with the comfort of a homely atmosphere. The service is too notch undoubtedly and the wide variety of cuisines available adds to one's delight. As the name suggests it's indeed welcoming....

I was at Swagath to celebrate my brother's 21st birthday with my family of 6 and we had a very nice time here. The food was good especially the cigar rolls and dal makhani. The service was good. The serving time was a bit long, but they had a lot of guests so it's understandable. They had happy hours between 6-11pm and in this they served 1+1 on liquor. Had a nice time. Will visit again soon!

A Mangalore based restaurant with great seafood options. Very tasty food and excellent service. Their Neerdosa and Malabar paratha are must try items. Crab items are very delicious and they do provide big crabs!! Mutton sukha is another item we tried and it also turned out to be yummy.. its a paradise for non veg food with lot of options. The decor is mild and more of an executive style. Good place for groups.
Sweta Kamalia Boobna
Pathetic. We ordered North Indian and South Indian cuisines which were both very disappointing. Pricing according to food and ambience is very high.

Mosl 232.b
VERY BADLY MADE FOOD ,THE FOOD HAD NO TASTE ,BUTTER CHICKEN WAS BELOW AVERAGE AND MUTTON ROGHAN JOSH WAS HOPELESS TASTELESS
I CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT SWAGATH AND ITS MANAGEMENT SERVING TASTELESS DISGUSTING BADLY MADE FOOD
Kitkat
Great food but ambience is average price is quite high but the service food quality taste is amazing you will have to go on second floor to dine in first floor is under construction from long time and they don't have lift good experience
Joyeeta Banerjee
This is one of the oldest restaurants of defence colony and right from its sofas to its lighting will give u the same impression but not in a bad way... one of very few restaurants(still) to have a variety of fish... their gassi and appam is a must have... then they also have banana split which nowadays not really available anywhere else and its a must try...
Aditi Shahi
Love love love the food at Swagath!
Have tried multiple dishes here, and honestly all of them were great.
But my personal favourites are, Chicken Kadipatta, Chettinad Pepper Chicken with Appams and their Chilli Chicken Dry.
Their Surmai Gassi and Mutton Stew were quite good too and paired well with the Appam and Neer Dosa.
The South Indian Delicacies at Swagath are truly a delight!
Disha Sukhija
Swaghat must have been a good restaurant at some point. The food was extremely disappointing. The butter chicken is so orange, yet sweet and bland. The galouti too, was quite disappointing. We would have ordered more but these 2 dishes were so sad, that we decided not to. Wouldn't come back here as the food is really heavy, but lacks the right ingredients and flavor.
Komal Sahai
Been here multiple times and always order their ghee roast boneless chicken and malabar porotta. It is a delicacy and they nail it. Would visit again whenever I get a chance
Pratyaksha Trivedi
Great Food, but ambience is average. They can improve their ambience specially as they are located in one of the finest markets of Delhi - Defence Colony.
Kunal Gupta
Price is quite high. But the service, food quality and taste is amazing. Service is very quick even on weekends. Only downside is that ground floor is usually booked and you'll have to go on second floor to dine in(first floor is under construction from long time) and they don't have lift.
Kukubh Megwal
This Swagath too is great. My first Swagath experience was this one, back in 2005 I think. Food is great as usual. Staff is fine too. Service has been consistent.
MSA
I have been eating at Swagath since 2004 and barring couple of times, their food has been excellent. Standard and quantity and quality are excellent, they exceed expectations consistently. If you go to Swagath, you should stick to the Coastal/Southern food. I have never tried Chinese or North Indian and wouldn't recommend that at Swagath.

The waiters are extremely knowledgeable and courteous and will help you on gravies and recommending sea food - you can blindly trust their judgement ( I have for past several years) and let them know your spice comfort. One of the few places with great lobster and crab as well.

This year itself have already been there/ ordered in couple of times.

Having eaten at Mahesh Lunch Home and Ghazalee, in my opinion Swagath is better than both. Only Sanadige is probably marginally better than Swagath.

Peanuts/ kala channa are excellent for their happy hours on beer.

An old place now , serving a mix of Indian Cuisines , I remember visiting this place a long time back and had a good experience but my last visit bieng a family outing came out to be below average. The staff is well groomed but the response level is less . The food is average. The dal makhani was of a thin consistency . Though I enjoyed the tandoori chicken , but I felt it was very basic. The butter Naans were totally rubbery. I complained to the staff but the manager was kind of confused how to act. I would have given it a 3 rating but the staff and service overall let the experience further down
Neha Kapur
This place has been my favourite since last 20 years whenever I wanted to eat butter garlic prawns and mutton Sukka. This places reminds me of good food which I have had at JAi hind in Bandra mumbai. Food is excellent and simply outstanding. The ambience is something which can definitely be worked upon. Last time when had gone there then the first floor was closed due to sealing but still the place remains completely booked and bustling. Best South Indian food like manglorean and Konkani in delhi for sure
Food Breeze
This is one of the well know restaurants in Delhi. Its a 3 storey building. The service is fast and the food tasted good. The quantity is decent to full fill an average eater. They have a big menu with various cuisines but I preferred to try the north Indian khana.
Sakshi Singh
Had a great day n the food quality was good n the surmai fish was great n whenever I m back in Delhi would love to come back , great service n ambience
The_roaming_plate
The food is incredible. They have a vast menu. lot of options to choose from. I love the indian food here. The Dum aloo Kashmiri is my all time favourite ❤️
We had ordered the crispy fried wontons, south indian papad, dal makhni. I liked every dish😋i would recommend the food here.
Abhilasha Singh
The veg seekh kabab, methi mutter malai and ghee roast prawns are yummm. The service levels are exceptionally good, the servers are polite as well as friendly.
Dinu S Chandran
Please don't visit here and waste your money. We came back to this eatery after a 3 year gap and found it serving extremely poor quality food!! The branch of the same restaurant at M block market Greater Kailash was much better !
Vishu Bansal
The bestest resturant in delhi for some lovely food a quite n peacful place in south delhi
Swagth a fine dine multicusion resturant
The decor nd music very nice food is very tasty the staff here is great....
Abhishek Panshikar
The best restaurant in Delhi for some lovely costal India food. Love the dry mutton preparations. Strange that they do not have kuri roti on the menu.
Piyusha Singh
Well I'm ashamed of accepting that I'm one of those people who judges a book by its cover and so did I not choose to enter this place basing my assumption on the name.
Thankfully one night after my long office hours, when I was almost about to die of starvation I decided to eat here and I thank my stars that I did.
What lovely Indian flavours. Again my tiny appetite won over my desire to eat every dish in their menu, but I had their mutton and chicken reshami kebab.
Not to leave my habit of not picking white coloured cooked chicken over brown, after some kind persuasion I was glad to order reshami kebab.
Definitely visiting this place again.
Rajalaxmi Ramanan
I went with a family of 6 and we ordered garlic chicken , hongkong chicken , 3 hakka noodles and soups. So the way they served their main course was way below the Swagath standards. They first served us one noodle alone and post that they serve one noodle along with garlic chicken. And post this they serve second noodles and still no hondkong chicken was served. I dont know how and why somebody would not serve the whole main course at one go.. The whole experience was pathetic.. I am writing this review with noodles on my table waiting for the gravy...🙁🙁

We will look at:
1) Location
2) Food
3) Behaviour
4) Service
5) Ambience
6) The hidden truth
1) LOCATION: 5/5. Easily accessible. Multiple floors starting from the ground floor in the main market of Defence Colony, an upper middle class neighbourhood in nearly the heart of New Delhi. The Swagath Restaurant sort of lords it over the market with an imposing visual presence rivalled only by Moet's in this market. Large signboards make Swagath easy to spot. Google Maps is a simpler, if lazier, alternative to finding the restaurant.
2) FOOD: 3/5. The restaurant began by selling its Manglorean coastal South Indian non-vegetarian menu to Delhiites raised primarily on Punjabi and Punjabi-Chinese food. There was integrity in the Swagath food until about 2007. They served tasty coastal South Indian non-vegetarian food, which can have lasting positive impact on the mind. It was delicious. You could pick any of the offerings in coastal South Indian non-vegetarian and be gratified.
And then, in a slow, unnoticed and chilling process, the owners of Swagath began to add Indian-European offerings. They also started to sell their bar aggressively. Unmissable signboards, for instance, advertise the 'longest happy hours' in Delhi - 11am to midnight everyday. Now, the food is standardised. Only about a dozen (of the scores of menu listings) are unique. The rest are standardised. But the food is still on the better side, even after all the cuisine corruption and compromise.
Tip: Stick to coastal South Indian non-vegetarian options. Eat the fish only once a week in small portions. The fish dishes are tasty but likely to contain high mercury levels.
3) BEHAVIOUR: 4/5. The staff is routinely trained to wear suits, ties and shoes (although cheap). Even the lowest delivery boys have a uniform. They are always courteous and smiling. They will open doors and guide you from entry to exit.
4) SERVICE: 4/5. If you don't drink and are otherwise sober, you will notice that the service is swift and appropriate. They don't take an extra minute, especially with takeaways.
5) AMBIENCE: 2.5/5. For reasons that only the management knows, the whole place has a bar ambience. It is like a watering hole for the upper middle class male and those involved in real estate, who seem to be regulars here. Also, the place attracts many families in the evening. This is a mystery to me. I have no idea why families (with children, women and the elderly) would want to spend two hours in a place that welcomes alcohol drinkers more than anyone else. There is a strange black decor, which adds to the restaurant's generally Bollywood bar ambience. Definitely not classy.
6) THE HIDDEN TRUTH: 0/5. Nearly no one in the staff reads anything - newspapers or books. This makes them illiterate and ignorant, although they speak internet version English and can write down orders in pidgin English. This is astonishing for a restaurant that prides itself in the heart of New Delhi. The staff has no knowledge of the purity and impurity of their ingredients, especially the meats and fish. This can be dangerous to your health. This is the biggest risk with Swagath.
The owners and staff are overtly religious. They leave everything to God, which means they can live ignorant and lazy.
There is excessive emphasis on greed and money. Everything is about 20% overpriced. Delhi is an expensive city and this Swagath branch is in an expensive location. I get it. But the services are still overpriced. I first purchased a Swagath mutton biryani for INR 184. Now, the same thing costs INR 715 (751 with taxes). And it tastes a little worse. This is robbery.
One of the owners (maybe the only one) has a habit of moving around with a private posse of guards. This can be unsettling in a small and peaceful market.
CONCLUSION: Swagath is an option if you wish to eat coastal South Indian non-vegetarian food in New Delhi. But be aware of where they source their ingredients from before you eat. Women and children, be informed that this is a dark, alcohol-peddling and male-centric outlet.

Looking for an authentic south indian cuisine in Delhi? This is surely the place to be. One day I craved for appams & searched for a good restaurant all over zomato & found this place. I wasn't sure as it's Delhi. But trust me I had one of the best dinners. What solkadi, fried fish, manglorian curry with neer dosa & appam!! I wish i could eat all night. My stomach got full but not my soul.
NomadicRider
Have been going to this restaurant for years. They have 3-4 stories dining area. The food - Apam, malabar parantha, chettinad chicken and seafood is authentic.

It’s a bit on the expensive side but worth it once in a while.

The last 2-3 time that we have been there, it was being renovated so it does become a bit crowded and irritating. The service however is fast and consistently good.
Hitesh Gupta
To be honest, I have not tried a lot of items from their menu. But what I am really fond of is their Fish Biryani. It's and interesting combination which you don't get elsewhere. The gravy they serve with the Biryani is just amazing - unlike your traditional raitas and salans. Slightly on the expensive side but the potion size is good. If you are craving for a different style of Biryani - shoot for it
Chazz
Went after a long time with high expectation but it failed the time you enter it has lost its charm and the management is not worried.if you see they have not replied to any review
Coming on food it was average with high prices.
Ordered golden fried prawn with such thick coating and a small prawn inside and charging 1100 for 6 odd pcs.
Butter chicken just normal.
So I wasted my time and money.
Vaibhav Aggarwal
I've been to their Gurgaon outlet which I didn't quite relish the food at and also found it to be quite overpriced. However, since I'd heard a lot about Swagath, I was hoping for that to be a one-off experience and give their Defence Colony outlet a try as well. It unfortunately ended with the same conclusion.

I wasn't very hungry so ended up ordering only their butter garlic prawns. I found them to be extremely bland, to which the justification of the server was that since they're 'butter garlic' they're meant to be that way. Yes, I've had them at other places and yes it's primarily meant to be butter and garlic but every place else where I've had them, it does have some taste to it at least. Thankfully after much insistence they made it slightly better after getting some flavour to it but I'd still consider them below average at best.

Neither do I like the taste of their food otherwise, but the high pricing makes it seem even more unjustified.

Pritika Malhotra

Dined at this many times but tried their pompret fish for the first time other than all veg we ordered was good but the fish tasted completely bland. Wrong part was we ordered it without checking the price which was too high. But anyways rest of it was all good
Kunal Singh
Worst experience... charged wrongly on hard drinks... first they said happy hours but at the bill time they denyed.. started arguing with us and said to pay it now... pls every1 dnt waste ur money here...

We had gone to Swagath Restaurant for lunch and the food was yummy but very heavy. We had ordered for drinks watermelon mint mojito and virgin mojito both were refreshing. For the main course we had murgh Malai Tikka which was soft & succulent ,Dal e Swagath and rara gost punjabi which was mutton chunks and minced in spicy gravy with crispy fried malabari parantha. Its a must try for Indian cuisine if you are at Defence Colony.
Madhur Prabhakar
Visited this place about a month back for dinner. Ordered few kebabs in starters. They were soft and delicious. In the main course we ordered Dal makhani, chicken lababdar, and mutton Rogan Josh. They were perfect. Best about this place was staff, they were very hospitable and super nice. One of the best places for mughlai cuisine. Thumbs up!
Nikhil Raj
Taste, Spicy and lovely all are in this south indian food swagath i ordered some food like kadai paneer, Prawn biryani and jombo prawn. all are very tastey
Anurag
An old favourite of mine. Tried their mutton stew which was yummy. Though slightly heavy on the pocket but a nice place to visit once in a while. Hope they maintain their quality and standards.
Foodbeast
Well known for its coastal delicacies, Swagath has been around for ages, serving the same quality of food everyone loves to devour. The food service is usually very swift, so one can drop in for a quick lunch between meetings or a busy work day. The quality still remains quite good, and it’s not too heavy on the pockets. One can enjoy good southern regional flavours for a decent price. The decor on the other hand, could do with some revamping.
Ajay Ayoush Shukla
We went swagath on Monday. As per my friends its best for south non vegetarian foods. But the place sound dull nd boring service also not upto the mark as per the name.
Imran Khan
The seafood platter was excellent as was the mutton stew. The prices and portions were decent as well. The wait was very long but the food was worth the wait for sure.
would return
Manash Pratim Deka
The call attendants are extremely ignorant and unapologetic. I placed an order for Chicken Stew but they delivered Chicken Sukka instead. When I calked for a replacement they kept telling that I have placed the order wrongly. When I clearly told that I did place the order for Chicken Stew they kept denying. When I asked to talk to the manager they refused. It took them 25 minutes to get back with a proper response. Very bad service!
Shilpa John
Love the place. It has an old world charm and if you are looking for some authentic south Indian grub do head here. Do try the classic neer dosa with prawns. Yummy!
Paritosh
Great for nice meal with family.. good food.. comfortable seating and ambience.. contrary to popular belief, their vegetarian spread is quite good too.. loved the Cigar Rolls..

I love sea food and there is no doubt about that and my journey of finding the best seafood places in Delhi would be incomplete without including this long standing legend in the game.

Not only does Swagath have massive variety in the cuisine but also the most courteous staff I’ve seen. Each waiter made sure to pay attention to our every need and were very polite and helpful. So the experience started on a good note already.
We had a huge 1.5 kg mud crab shared between three of us along with appams and chettinad gravy. And I would be lying if I said it wasn’t perfect. It was fresh and yummy and the gravy had just the right amount of spice and heat. The crab so big and filling that it was our only dish of the night and we had to take a break between eating! ( totally worth the food baby) The staff was great and actually replaced our old appams with new ones in case they got dry. We ended up paying around 5k for a huge crab and 4 beers and in the city a better deal does not exist.
All in all I came home full, happy and extremely excited about the rest of my seafood journey.

Akhil Batra
Very poor service and very rude attitude. Air conditioning is pathetic they don't even have remote to control the temperature and swing. Won't recommend to anyone.
Rajeev
Really good food.
Was recommended this place for south Indian cuisine and loved it. The food was delicious and the portions were great too. Malabar parantha & Malabari chicken are must try.
Quick service as well
KiaanR
My favourite for South Indian Non Veg, which you don’t find easily in Delhi. Love the Malabari Chicken and Malabari Parotta. I’ve tried in other Locations of Swagat but the taste is not the same. Def col one is the only one I’d recommend
Mandeep Rathore(Bon Vivant)
A quite, peaceful place right in the heart of south delhi is the place you want to spend an evening filled with fun conversations with your close friends.Coupled with some decent food like salt and pepper chicken, singapore chicken, chicken fried rice and couple of drinks, this place makes for a great go to place.
The service is very quick and the staff is really courteous and helpful.
Overall a lovely experience.
Naresh Sen
We have gone last night at swagath resto in Def col ,which is famous for their sea food. .
We are 5 friends, and we ordered two types of crab, one is crab tandoori and another one is their special crab butter pepper garlic. ..
Both are dilecius and awesome. .
Letter in main course we order butter chicken and prawns malabari,.along with appam and some kerala paratha, which called malabari paratha. .
Food was very very tasty and service also 10 of 10. ..
I should say that everyone should try at least once. ...
Sudhanshu
Went there with friends on a friday evening and the place was dull. The ground and first floor was shut and few people oj the 2nd floor - this has became a place for peoplw to drink rather than enjoy the family dinner as they serve 1+1 on liquor till midnight. Well thats what the restaurant timing says but the staff speaks a diff lang and at 11:30 the manager comes asking for last order . Management is super rude specially Mr Ram singh and another manager - i guess "Arunachal".
No courtsey to apologise for anything that went wrong on their part, always in a rush to take the order (despite of reataurant only 20%occupied) and then ready to argue with the customers when they complaint about service.

I recommend you should try a different location of Swagath but not defence colony unless you want to go out for dinner to spoil your evening.

I wish there was an option of recordig the attitude of these two managers .

P.S. - do check the bill before paying they have a habbit of charging you for somethijg you never had !!
Sumit Jetwani
Food here is good and they have a lot of variety from north indian to chettinad to konkani etc. love their chettinad chicken and malabar parantha. We got the spices mild as per our taste. Kids had chicken stew and appam. Though i thought their appam was not as soft as it should be.
Ankur Buttan
No sense of respect for customers they discriminate between those who ask for drinks and those who do not. Don’t go if you have another choice.
Anjoomehta2908
We as a family love this place
We love the butter garlic prawns & mutton stew & chicken stew with appam
Love the malabari paranthas & methi chicken too
Delicious tasty food

Swagath is a brand extension of Sagar Ratna Group of Hotels and specialises in delightful coastal & malabari cuisine.

The Defence Colony property is one of the oldest under Swagath Chain and is renowned for its sumptuous and delicious cuisines of Coastal Karnataka and Kerala in particular. Strategically located in the main shopping Hub of defence Colony over looking Moets on the other side, it is a 2 floors spacious restaurant to gorge on delightful and spicy yet tasty food ! They also have a bar attached which makes things interesting in this sit down diner

You can gorge on dishes loaded with traditional Malabar, Chettinad and coastal flavors. Known for its diverse seafood options, Swagath stands out for its Kolivada Prawns, Chicken Stew, Malabar Paratha and a number of other breads and curries

Their Keralite delicacies take you straight to the backwaters with a menu that boasts of amazing grub. The spread includes the likes of Pomfret Tawa Fry and Kerala Sukka Mutton & Fry.

People are attentive and very courteous and ready to help you. Prices are slightly on the higher side but you get speciality South Indian coastal cuisine in very few places in Delhi and that kind of squares it off. Over all it is a tasty trip to your taste buds no doubt !
DEL_belle
Filled with a distinct fishy aroma, this place is primarily south India, primarily a sea-food place. We wandered in one night and only the basement seating was available. It smelled strongly of fish, was congested and felt damp.

The staff was very accommodating, nice and courteous despite being very very busy. They had some interesting south and north Indian choices so we ordered malabar parantha, paneer lababdar, mushroom galouti kebabs for snacks and a mixed chettinad curry with plain rice that they recommended.

The food, the ambience and service were sub-par. The food did not taste good at all. Neither the south Indian nor the north Indian dishes were done right.

The place is cheap but it felt very claustrophobic and unpleasant. I would not recommend this at all!
Robin Bhakhan
Writing this review based on 2 visits there.

1st visit was 4/5 (visited approx a year ago). Food was fresh and tasty. Staff was courteous. Ambiance was just fine.

2nd visit was 2/5. We ordered fish fry (slightly oily and spicy), malabar parantha with sabji (didn't taste fresh, 1 person vomited after coming back home), mushroom tandoori with chilly (overpowering masalas ruined the actual taste).

Gave a call twice to the restaurant to complain about the quality of the food on 2nd visit. On first attempt I was informed that manager will call back. When he didn't call back, I called 2nd time and I was informed that manager is travelling and someone at reception understood my concern and assured me that food is fresh in Swagath. I was not convinced with response.

Swagath name itself gives you the felling of warm welcome and it's true, visited for the first time yesterday and it's decor is really nice and cozy to chat around with friends and family. We ordered tandoori murgh, chilli chicken, mushroom broom, chicken jafrani with beers and breezer. Food was good but I personally feel the taste was little bland for me coz I normally eat spicy but my friends enjoy it. Service is really nice and staff is always there to assist you with smiling faces. Overall experience was great but I would suggest if they can work little better for the taste of food specially north Indian section but would definitely visit again for the warm service , friendly welcome and for happy hour.👍
Rohini
My favourite restaurant when I’m in the area. In all these years, the taste and the quality have been maintained. The appams go well with all the curry dishes. I wish the other locations were this good.
Pm
One of the best places for non vegetarian South Indian cuisine in Delhi. With excellent selection of sea food and there is ample selection in North Indian cuisine also.

If you want to be treated badly or made felt insignificant in life please visit this restaurant. Clearly they don’t care about customers. We were two and couldn’t be accommodated on the ground floor where there were empty tables even though a group of 6-8 got free just as we entered and were sent up two floors stating there was no space downstairs and upstairs there are tables available for two. When we reached up there were no tables and the restaurant thought it’s appropriate to seat us on a sofa instead of a proper table.

All of this after I booked a table at the restaurant through Zomato but the restaurant team didn’t seem to acknowledge that when I was at the restaurant. They even had the audacity to call me back stating it’s my fault because of which I could get a seat and I should have obliged to sitting on the sofa! . If you have a restaurant waiting time and don’t have space, please say so and don’t send customers climbing up two floors or suggest sitting on a couch and eat.

Thank you Swagath for not really being true to your name and encouraging me to write my first review on Zomato after using the service for multiple restaurants for many years!

Came here to try some South Indian cuisine and wasn't disappointed.
we had Mutton Malabari and Chicken Stew and both were delicious.
The spice level was on perfect and the serving size was good too.
Not too heavy on the pocket either

Tried food here sometime back, the whole idea was to try South Indian food however they serve lot many cuisine, what started as a south Indian restaurant chain is now multi cuisine, we tried Chettinad pepper chicken which was Good In taste, other food we tried was chicken 65, prawn Koliwada and appam, all fine, slow service though.

The food is good - but the ambiance, prices and service were off. We were led to the 2nd floor of the restaurant. It was heavily curtained and the room was gloomy. I actually had to use the torch on my mobile to read the menu. We were seated right next to the bar because nothing else was available. Conversation was impossible at times because of the noise from the mixie at the bar and the constant loud chatter from the bar help.
We ordered the fried mackarel, Mangalorean style, prawns in a coconut gravy, roast chicken, western style, neer dosas and Malabar parathas. The portions were fair sized. The prawns were tough - I could not cut them, had to tear them apart. The gravy was tasty, though. The neer dosas were really good so I used them with the gravy.
As it stands today, I wouldn't recommend a visit. I give it a 2.0 because the western style roast chicken platter worked. I would probably ask for it as a takeaway item.

Tasteless talumein soup, steamed dim sums with thick flour shells served with a dipping sauce smeared all over the leathery mounds. Looked & tasted like a mess. The ONLY saving grace was the fresh fluffy appam. The veg stew was ok but earlier visits to this flagship Swagath outlet in Defence Colony we’ve had fresher & more pleasant versions of veg stew both in taste & visual appeal.
A very disappointing experience & even more disappointing was that the Manager wanted no feedback. The table next to us also complained about the “dry” appetisers that they were served & something else..

Swagath at def col market serve some very good sea food from coastal India. We tried the surmai curry and prawn curry with appams. As always excellent taste and very well cooked.

Having visited several times the outlet at sector-29 in Gurugram, this one proved to be a disappointment. More than the food, it was the service which was disappointing. The place reeked of being over-staffed. For almost every guest there would be 2 staff members. We did not have a full-fledged meal, but had beers and snacks. Happy Hours were on so we had Bira and Kingfisher. For snacks we tried the Aloo Dilnaz which was well prepared. A good experience but not seemingly as classy as the Gurugram branch

The place is situated in the main market line along with all other restaurants. The place is 3 floors high. The menu had plenty of sea food apart from North Indian and South Indian cuisine. We ordered methi chicken and butter chicken along with Naan. The service is a bit slow, but that’s fine. Methi chicken wasn’t at all upto the mark which I was expecting, the butter chicken was average. Quantity was ok, but might seem over priced. The attendant spoke highly of the prawns and crab but, am not sure if am going to taste those here anytime soon at least.

While the footfall on the once busy streets of defense colony has been falling but this restaurant continues to have long waiting queue and the question is why? Ordered mutton seekh - was good but priced at Rs 535 which will certainly make a hole in your pocket. Chicken lababdar - honestly the portion size is nothing but rubbish either reduce the prices or improve the serving. Taste wise I felt the gravy could have been more creamy although chicken peices were well cooked. Dal makhni was thick and enriched in cream hence found it really nice. Malabar parantha is a novelty but the breads cost will remind you of nothing less than a 5 star. Service is a tad slow. Ambience wise nothing much to get influenced with.
Overall I found it overly priced for the kind of food being served.

Called your restaurant and asked politely if you guys take order till 11.30, he refused and when I enquired that online it shows 11.30 pm, the guy who answered started shouting at me and exact words were ' we are not bothered what online shows.. WHAT WHAT you mean by online, we don't care about they ' Damn you guys. If you guys act like this I wonder what your other branches must be doing. Never SWAGATH again.

There is no better place than this to have an amazing North Indian Meal. Dal Makahani and Paneer Tikka Masala (Main Course) with Malabar Parantha is the best combination for vegetarians. Chicken Lababdar and Baalti Meat is what a Non Veg lover will enjoy. Ambience is great and service is quite efficient.

Really good food and ambiance. Much appreciated.
Every thing we ordered was decent and the ambiance was great the living crab on the ground floor added to the experience as we had kids along.

Swagath, located in Defence Colony main market is a beautifully set up restaurant spread across four floors including seating at the basement. True to its name the place has a welcoming air with nice interiors. Only the basement and ground floor was operational on our visit this time. It is home to multi cuisines which include north indian, chinese, south indian and sea food. We ordered Paneer lababdaar,
Dal-e-swagath (which is basically dal makhni), garlic naan and roti. The food preparation was delectable and the quantity was good. The service was prompt and staff was hospitable. The best deal is that they have happy hours (1+1 drink) throughtout the week. We give it a thumbs up.

This is a fairly old restaurant in def col market. The decor and ambience is old school where you have table cloths, water goblets Etc. Have been here multiple times over the past few years and they are very consistent with both food and service. Have always had their South Indian food which excellent every time, especially the sea food preparations. Service is quick and efficient with the servers always willing to help with suggestions from the menu. The top floor also has live ghazal performances as well. They also have happy hours on till 11pm as well, which is always a good thing.

This place never disappoints. Great mangalorean and chettinad cuisine. Loved their Andhra chicken curry, Bombay duck, prawns fish. The pricing & the quantity is pretty decent. Definitely one of good South Indian restaurants

While people search the internet through and through for multiple western cuisines, here is the ULTIMATE restaurant for any Indian food lover.

When I say I'm a foodie, trust me when I say this and considering Swagath, it would require me a second thought or a second opinion to confirm how finger licking and exotic the food tastes.
You will always find me at one of their tables, ralishing every morsel of food I consume there. I order for the typical go to dish for an Indian- Dal Makhni along with the delicious thick gravy Paneer Lababdar.

Non-vegetarian- I also ordered for Murgh Malai Tikka which is super soft and Murgh Afghani. Their biryani has a different aroma, making the hunger pangs rush at supersonic speeds.

I give this restaurant a definite thumbs up!

The quality of the food was nice. The palak paneer and the dal makhani were fabulous. The lal mirch parantha and the missi roti were delicious. The service was fast and the staff was helpful. The dining place was really big and the ambience was average. The one thing that i noticed was that the food was lagging spices and was a little bit too plain but other than that a really decent place to visit for Indian food.
Rashi Sobti
I am fan of their appams, neer soda and chicken chettinad. The neer dosa is the most delicate food item I have had here and it is handled and cooked brilliantly here. The gazal nights on their top floor are enjoyable if you enjoy that kind of music. The staff is highly courteous and are available in good numbers around. Can get a bit cold with low temperatures they maintain inside, may be a drink there with happy hours throughout can help.
Girjashanker Vohra
The mutton sukha, the chettinad prawn, the crisp appams, sol kadhi, malabar paranthas - everything has a distinct taste and quality. This is one place where I can testify that consistency is all that they care about. And finally when you have seen through all the fluff what more can a diner want. You come back again and again for that very flavour which hides in some receptacle of your mind that you wish to revisit when the urge strikes.
Well done swagath defence colony, to another 15 years.
