Ssence is the all-day dining global cuisine restaurant at The Suryaa, which offers up lavish breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets, apart from their extensive a'la carte' menu. But their most amazing buffet by far is their sumptuous Sunday brunch which has a grand spread of various cuisines such as Indian, Oriental, and Continental. A key feature of their Sunday brunch is the special Kid’s Corner, which has sliders, wedges, fries, smileys, chicken nuggets, and a spread of mini desserts. The area also has a “make-your-own pizza” table, where kids get to roll out the dough, add the sauce and their choice of toppings, and put the pizza in the oven themselves. Also, at the dessert counter, they can decorate their cookies.
The restaurant is located at the lobby level, and the use of large glass panes enhances the natural light flowing into the restaurant and also provides a nice view of their beautifully constructed lobby. The place has a nice, clean look and the open kitchen in the center is the focal point of the restaurant.
We started our meal with some delicious salads such as grilled vegetable salad, beetroot and citrus salad, aloo matar ki chaat, mustard potato and bacon salad, and chicken and corn salad. The cold section also had a station to make your own salads, some veg and non-veg sushi options, cold cuts of meat, and mezze like hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, and pita bread. The soup and bread station had minestrone and tom yum soups, with a variety of fresh breads and cheese.
We then moved to the live tawa section where we relished Dal ke Shaami, Tandoori Paneer Tikka, Patialia Tawa Machchi, and Chicken Seekh. The dal ke shaami was especially very tasty, with coarsely ground pulses, mixed with spices, and had a nice bite to it. The chicken seekh was juicy and the tawa machchi was nicely cooked and mildly spiced.
They also had a live chaat station with papdi chaat, aloo chaat, dahi bhalla, gol gappe, and a jhal muri counter. We went with the dahi bhalla which was soft and spongy, and the aloo chaat was nice and tangy.
The live gravy station was something novel- they had bhindi, potatoes, paneer, and bitter gourd in veg, and chicken tangdi and fish in non veg, which you could mix and match, and then the chef would add some spicy gravy and toss the selected items in it. We tried the bhindi, potatoes, and chicken, and we really enjoyed all three. Right next to this station was a section for different types of rice- plain, jeera rice, chutney rice, tomato rice, and lemon rice. We enjoyed all, but our favorite was the chutney rice.
The main course had huge variety- ranging from pan-seared fish with dill butter sauce, pot roast tenderloin, tenderloin steak, chicken fingers, chicken in schezwan sauce, badshah gosht, murg saag hyderabadi, and chicken biryani in non-veg, and buttered vegetables, herb roasted potatoes, corn and spinach au gratin, aubergine ratatouille, vegetables in hot garlic sauce, veg hakka noodles, makhana matter, karela kadhai, amchuri bhindi, dal tadka, dal makhani, and bhuna pyaaz aur anjeer ka pulao in veg. We especially enjoyed the murg saag, dal tadka, dal makhani, and the pyaaz and anjeer pulao.
Apart from these dishes laid out in the buffet, you could also ask for a customized pasta and pizza. Since we were too full to try both, we ordered for a penne in alfredo sauce- the pasta was cooked al dente and had just the right amount of sauce, and was topped with lots of grated parmesan cheese.
Finally, we moved to the dessert section, which had a cold teppanyaki where you could ask the chef to create an ice-cream mixed with cake crumbs, sauces, nuts, and cookie crumbles of your choice. Apart from the ice-cream, the had Sandesh, rasgulla, ras malai, besan ka laddoo, and beetroot halwa in the Indian section, while the western desserts consisted of gooey chocolate brownie, fresh fruit cake, tiramisu, cheese cake slice, chocolate truffle pastry, blackforest pastry, kiwi mousse, orange mousse, apple crumble, orange pastry, cupcakes, mango mousse, and some sugar free desserts such as blueberry and strawberry mousse.
Throughout our meal, the servers were very efficient- changing our plates after each course, and providing good suggestions. Overall, we loved the experience, and would highly recommend it!
