Review Earl's Secret - Ooty (Udhagamandalam)

Amazing ambience. It has limited seating and will be crowded on long weekends and holidays. So plan accordingly. They have adequate parking for cars inside but it may not suffice if there's heavy crowd. Food is on the expensive side but totally worth it. The place is pretty isolated so don't rely on cabs.

Earl's Secret is part of a century-old British Mansion converted to Hotel King's Cliff and a restaurant. It has all the nostalgia, romance and grandeur of the bygone era. The restaurant has various sitting options (inside, outside and glasshouse as well). Menu seems to be well curated along with the decor and overall ambience of the place is very appealing. Food is outstanding. All the deserts are a must have. Service is top notch. Will definitely visit this again.

Went here for lunch on my trip to Ooty. Loved their ambience and presentation of the food. The taste good too. Their staff was also quite friendly and well behaved. The only issue was that the service was a little slow. But otherwise, it's a great place to grab a meal.

One of the best places in Ooty to have lunch, this place has that old British India vibes and gives you a sense of going back in time and the typical ooty environment. The glasshouse inside which you can dine is so elegant and the food just tastes very good. The freshest ingredients are used and the service also is really good. Make sure you make it a point to visit this place.

Earl's Secret in Ooty stands as one of the premier dining spots, perched atop a hill with breathtaking views and a verdant garden offering a few cozy rooms for accommodation. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, ensuring a delightful dining experience complemented by prompt service. We would refrain to explain specific dishes, suffice it to say that every item we ordered was a delightful amalgamation of flavors, truly appetizing. However, it's worth noting that the gastronomic delight does come at a slightly higher price compared to typical eateries. Despite this, our overall experience was exceptional, making Earl's Secret a definite recommendation for any Ooty visitor seeking a memorable dining escapade amidst scenic surroundings. #BurpOutLoudlyExplores

Earl's Secret - Where history meets elegance! This stunning colonial villa in Ooty has been meticulously restored to its former glory. Indulge in an exquisite culinary journey with a diverse menu featuring Continental, Indian, and South East Asian cuisine. This establishment, once a summer retreat for British notables, now offers a premium dining experience in a setting that feels straight out of the 1800s. However, it's worth noting that this nostalgia comes at a price, as the food here is on the very expensive side. #EarlsSecret #ColonialElegance 🍽️🏰💰

Many people would think this place is simply hyped but trust me its worth visiting at least once when you are in Ooty. This restaurant is in top of the hill so imagine the view you get. And its also located inside Kings Cliff Heritage Hotel. You can explore the whole area and its worth it. Visiting the place at night is also worth. They would play sweet music, you get to dine besides fireplace like movies which makes it warm. The taste of food is good but the atmosphere and service makes it wowww!

To start with I wanted good continental food Earls kitchen served the purpose Located at Kings Cliff the Ambience is amazing coupled with the view from the top. Food quality wise it's really good, service also was good Keep in mind with quality the price is also matched, you will find most dishes more than Rs 500. Service charge is added by default which was a turn off, after paying so much in the menu, but yes good quality food do recommend.

Must visit restaurant in Ooty. The ambience was lovely, the staff were courteous, and the food was truly 5-star quality. It was worth every penny we spent. The property is nestled on a quiet hill, and the journey to get there is serene and enjoyable. This rustic gem is a hidden treasure that everyone should experience at least once. Unlike the typical dining options in Ooty, this place offers a delightful change. We were impressed with the delicious taste of the food, generous portion sizes, quick service, and, above all, the wonderful ambience. The ample parking and lush green surroundings in every direction, along with the charming vintage building at the entrance, added to the overall fantastic experience.

One of the most beautiful properties I have ever visited. We only went to have a good lunch, but came to know that they offer stay as well. The food as well as the atmosphere was really awesome. One day would love to stay over there.

Earl’s Secret is located in a hotel called Kings Cliff and it is quite popular within so many people. One afternoon after having boring food all over Ooty's other restaurants we decided to go to Earl's Secret for lunch. The place has an old time charm, and it's very popular among foreign travellers too. Few of the folks stay there itself. Earl’s Secret had both indoor seating and an outdoor one inside a glasshouse. We chose to sit inside the glasshouse as it was catchy. The restaurant was open until 15:30 hours for lunch, and we did reach at the very end. It was almost 15:10 when we arrived, and they had to check if the kitchen was still open to taking orders for lunch. They came back and replied in the affirmative. We settled down soon and took a quick look at the menu. First look, the place was quite pricey. When I mean pricey, it was definitely upwards of normal upscale restaurants. When a main course is priced around 500 bucks, it better be good was what I was thinking. The place is a multi-cuisine restaurant, and Italian, North-Indian and Asian were the prominent sections in the menu. We chose to stick to Italian. Since we were at the fag end of the lunch section, decided to have a main course each and finish with some desserts. Quite hungry, we were not in a mood to experiment with soup and starters.

Dined at Earl's Secret for an exquisite culinary experience. Nestled on a hill away from Ooty's hustle, the tranquil setting, adorned for Christmas, set the tone. The attentive staff seated us fireside. Delighted the palate with sweet corn chicken soup, broccoli and walnut soup, Nasi Goreng, butter naan, onion potato kulcha, lasagna, and blueberry cheesecake. All the food items were exceptionally delicious. The staff's guidance and a thoughtful finger bowl post-meal elevated the service. A culinary haven in Ooty, Earl's Secret is a must visit spot in Ooty.

A hidden gem on the hills of Ooty. I reckon if you ever feel like spending big bucks, you should definitely visit Earl's Secret to be treated like royalty. From the incredible service to the antiqu, rustic ambiance of the place, trust me when I say no place in Ooty can compare to this. Due to the freezing temperatures, there is also a very aesthetic looking fireplace whilst you enjoy your chicken roulade or fillet minot (which I totally recommend!) If you are concerned about veg food, there is plenty in variety. My friend said the veg pasty had REAL cheese lol. So definitely try their pastas too.

It's an old heritage building converted to a fine dining and lodging facility. Open dining in the lawns as well as inside dining facility is available offering mocktails and Continental, Chinese ,Thai , Indian cuisines. Food is good and staff is courteous.
MANDAR MUKHERJEE
Some British notable's summer retreat converted into a premium eatery. Definitely looks straight out of the 1800s. Food is expensive but the quality is exquisite. We tried the fillet mignon, lamb pie, roasted lamb with rice and caramel custard. Each was superb.
ammar Imam
Its on top of the hill and the ambience is awesome. Items are pricey but given the ambience and services, its very awesome
Tanisha Roy
It is really an earl's secret as it is hidden away on a hilltop and it is so pretty. The decor is like early British period and you feel cozy and warm inside.
Coming to the food there were hits and misses. The chicken roulade was a very big hit. The stuffing of cheese and the chicken simply melts in the mouth. The mashed potatoes and the jus were the perfect accompaniments. Another was a hit was the lasuni kebab, they were juicy and succulent. The big disappointment was the chef's salad. It wasnt a bad salad but when it mention that a salad is supposed to be chef's speciality you expect it to wow you and this simply doesn't do that. Overall it is really great place to have a cozy evening with your friends.
Ankita
Nice ambient with a very good food. I had tried these dishes which turned out to be very good for us and would like to visit here again for trying different varieties.

Had been to Earl's secret during my recent visit to Ooty in the month of December.
I personally loved the ambiance and decore of the place . An old British style house that is converted into a cafe. The inside seating is very tastefully decorated.
What adds up is the outdoor seating area amidst a small garden around the house - which is actually a glass house.
Thankfully I had reached here in time so that I had the privilege to choose where I want to be seated - a word of caution - if u get here late. The place is full.

We had Scotch eggs, Earl's roasted lamb and a hot coffee for that afternoon.
Since Scotch eggs has beeg mentioned we requested for it to be made with chicken - and they obliged for the request and made the dish with chicken.
This was really yummy - cane kn with sour cream and a small portion of salad - sour cream actually enhanced the taste of the dish .
Earl's roasted lamm - a tastefully plated dish - with soft and succulent lamb slices - a portion of herbed rice and blanched and grilled veggies. I really loved this one. The meat is well processed and tasted heavenly.

Consistency of hot chocolate was decent enough.
Would really love to visit this place in evening hour in my next visit to Ooty.
This is will one place that u would not regret having been to .

If you are in Ooty and want to experience some really fine dining this is the place to be.

This guy KIRAN helped us out choosing the dishes and must say I was truly impressed by the hospitality and the quality of food.

Thanks a lot for the special treatment man, will never forget it.
The ambiance was awesome and never expected it to be so spectacular!

If you are visiting this place do give a try on their signature brownie. Mouth watering!!!

Hats off to the Little Square Group!

This used to be out go to place in Ooty and a trip to Ooty wasn't complete without a meal here.

Was there earlier today for lunch and was surprised to see how badly managed the entire place was.

Service was the slowest ever, The chicken Tikka Masala was a real put off with the chicken pieces feeling like rubber.. Was unable to cut the chicken piece with a butter knife.

With the prices being steep, and the crowd that they regularly have they cannot afford to have a bad day on service. A dish going wrong once in a way is understandable but poor/ extremely slowservice cannot be pardoned.

I'm surely not going to be back again.

A little more flavor to the food would be nice.

Sanjay and Sathya were courteous and there hospitality was impeccable. Good job guys. Food was sumptuous, thanks to chef. Keep up the good work.

Earl’s secret is a picturesque location with vintage settings and flavoursome food. The most beautiful and serene restaurant in Ooty which offers my three best cuisines - Indian, Italian and Chinese. Although, the cream of the cake was the customer service of the staffs. They were extremely accommodating, hospitable and just rocking awesome! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back too.
Arpita Jade
A beautiful place atop the hill. Amazing food. Delicious. A bit on the pricier side. Overall a great place.

We had dinner here and were served by a gentleman Jeeva, who was very courteous and helpful. Ordered Indian for our kid which was brought in super fast and tasted delicious. We tried some pasta which was great too. Ambience was lovely with fire crackling which made it a great experience all in all. It’s a must visit place when in ooty!

Loved all the help extended by Sathya and team here and making our dinner special!

If you are visiting Ooty, you MUST visit this restaurant. We stopped here for lunch & the meal was fabulous. Right from the soup to the main course, Italian to Indian dishes, everything that we ordered were delicious. They had a single eggless white chocolate brownie dessert on their menu & that was OUT OF THE WORLD. My entire group was elated & we haven't eaten such a Fab desert ever. Excellent service also by Mr. Jeeva. A HIGHLY recommended restaurant.

We are in love with this place. The ambience is super classy. The chef Biju Pramanik has magic in his hands. The food was tasty to the core. And above all the service given by Arup, Kiran and Shantanu was way beyond excellent. I would surely recommend this place if you want to have a world class food and service experience.
Abhinav Prakash
Amazing place for a quiet continental lunch. They do however serve indian and chinese cuisines as well.
What stands out is the location, the ambience, the view and above all, the service. Kiran was amazing and made sure everything was perfect. Loved it. Couldn't recommend it enough!!
Indu Gogineni
We visited this restaurant on our marriage anniversary day. We had a lovely experience. Food is delicious. Prices are reasonable. Staff are very friendly. They arranged for a candle light dinner for us. Totally it is a must visit restaurant in Ooty. One thing I didn't like is its little far and roads are dark without proper street lights and felt unsafe during night.
Sanjukta Banerjee
We ordered-1.Ginger Carrot soup 2.Awadhi Ghosht Biryani 3.Stuffed kulcha 4.Blueberry Cheesecake 5.Masala Papad
The taste of foods are good.. But according to the taste the price are very high. Apart from that the ambience decor are great.

Satya the waiter who served us was excellent

There was no falvour in the food...took lot of time to serve but didn't taste didn't justify the taste. it was average.

The moment a trip to Ooty was on the cards, this was one place I wanted to check out because I’ve heard so many people go gaga over it. Earl’s Secret is located in a hotel called Kings Cliff and seemed quite popular with many. Luckily it so happened that we stayed not very far away from this place, and I didn’t have to go searching for it. Immediately decided to check it out for lunch.

After a long search for wheelchair accessible places in Ooty, i ended up to this beautiful restaurant which has a beautiful view, amazing weather and food. we reached there @3.30pm during the kitchen closing time and staffs are very friendly to serve us.
Had a Broccoli and nut soup, French Fries, Lemon tea and Cappuccino. Overall had an amazing experience.

One of the best places for Continental fare not only for Ooty but i dare say Bangalore as well.
The perfectly done Scotched Eggs, the light on the soul cream of chicken soup and the house special brownie - it was an experience in its own rights. The old world charm of the place tucked in a remote corner, the warm fire and the ever helpful stewards made it really a night to remember. A special shout out to Sathya for reccomending the house favourites and being around all the time and sharing the history of the place.
Shahid Abdulkhader
Strictly average food (tried only Italian dishes not sure about North Indian dishes
Nice concept and good atmosphere

We were looking for a place to dine which offers a great view in ooty. Found this place on Zomato and looking at the pics and reviews we decided to go there. We were mesmerised by the beauty of this place with all greenery around.
Earl’s Secret located in King’s Cliff hotel, Ooty is considered one of the best places for Luxurious Fine Dining. It serves Continental, Mughlai and Chinese Cuisine. The USP of this place is its ambience. It offers indoor as well outdoor dining.Glasshouse on the lawn is the best place to have an awesome dining experience. We chose Glass house dining.

We ordered a variety of dishes
1.Roasted Mushroom soup- Average in taste
2.French onion soup- Average in Taste
3.Pasta Alfredo- It was just ok
4.Murgh Tikka Masala- Chicken was succulent and flavourful
5.Garlic Naan- This scored high on my tastebuds
6.Mango Panna cota- It was good
7.Earl’s secret brownie- This was the showstopper. Tasted awesome

This place scores high on ambience and hospitality but low on service. It was tad slow and there is a lot of scope for improvement

This place is highly recommend to everyone who is looking for an amazing dining experience and breathtaking view

Food - 3/5- more than average considering the town is very small and not that open to all types of cuisine

Ambience - 5/5

Hospitality - 5/5

Service - 2/5 - tad slow

Staffs - very courteous

N.B : This place is usually fully crowded during lunch and dinner. Unless you go early, it would be a long wait to get seated. And for Glasshouse particularly, the queue is longer.

Zam Shajan
We came here for a breakfast....amazing property.. Sad that we did not stay here.. their secret brownie was just perfect.... And staff is full of passion and energy.... Good job guys!!!

BUT the club sandwich and beef burger were below average and overpriced. Not worth it at all.

During my planning for Ooty trip, I was looking for local restaurants there, and I found this one quite interesting. Located at a high, seculated place Earl's Secret is the in house restaurant of King's Cliff Hotel.

Don't call it an ambience, the nature took care of it. They have three kind of seating arrangement - in the house, outer lawn and the greenhouse like glass house. In the peak season many complains of not having a seat early, long queue before they can get a seat.

However we got lucky as it was not a peak season, got a seat as fast as possible. The hospitality was really, really good. And don't call it food - it's heavenly. We took a chicken dish and beef steak - both are simply amazing.

Dessert part was a surprise to us. The blueberry puddling was so yumming that we repeated the order with mango variant.

It's a definitely WIR (Will I Return) restaurant!!
Dhruv
Beautiful location and ambience. Seating in the glass house is fantastic in cold weather!

Staff is friendly and helpful.

Food has good taste and presentation.

The coffee shop idea is nice.

Gets crowded so reach early.
Came to this place with a lot of excitement to try the food here. But the food was extremely average and the customer service was even worse. The ambience was average too. The manager needs to buck up and start focussing on the customer experience. The Thai curry was good, but try the drinks at your own risk, watermelon juice was filled with water and was bland, the eggs were not cooked properly and the omlette was raw. I would not recommend this place for breakfast or lunch. They do offer a fireplace and hence having dinner here might sound ok.
Kirti Samant
Great food, amiable staff and cosy ambience. A taste of the old world, absolutely loved it. Definitely coming back soon! The views from the hotel are wonderful
Abhishek Sircar
We went here while visiting Ooty and this restaurant did not disappoint. It is located on the outskirts of the city the area becomes desserted Coming to food, it is delicious but a bit overpriced. Ambience is good. The fireplace keeps the area warm and comfortable. Overall a good place and I would recommend trying it.
Saurabh Kesari
Awesome place to have lunch with your better half. Food was good although price was on the higher side. Ambience, location, service was also good.

I visited Earl’s secret on my last day in Ooty, I was done with my lunch, and I was desperate for some sweet dosage! I looked it up on Zomato and had to make it there. It is far from the main bazaar but I had the company of a wonderful three wheeler driver who agreed to take me up there on to King’s cliff.
I was apprehensive at first but the way to Earl’s secret opens up into a mesmerising hideout... now I know why Earl decided to hide his love up there in the accommodating villa that serves as restaurant and lodging for an era now.
Getting to the dining experience; the staff are super sweet and kind, I was running late so they had everything in order for me quick, I was alone there & got the the best seat in the house right next to the glass house opening into the cherub garden with wrought iron seatings.

Ah! It is a wonderful Brit-regal cottage that I wandered off to explore after my dessert meal. I was also cordially welcomed and had guide assistance into the history and workings of the place.
It’s worth your visit, at least to be taken by the scenic view that Earl has to offer to. Unfortunately, I cannot vouch for the food here, but I’m sure the place will make up for it if it doesn’t go your way. If you’re big on scenic spaces to dine at. It’s perfect for the Quaint eyes...

It's a gem in between the hills! Wanted to go for lunch to catch the view but landed for dinner. It was raining so we had to sit inside and missed out on the view but still it was worth it. Beautifully done colonial interior with fireplace and music is an experience worth having while in Ooty. Coming to food, it sure lacks to match the hype . We had ordered a lasagna which was totally cold and bland, they did replace it but it could be a lot better.

Must visit for lunch so that you can see the breathtaking view!
Balpreet Kaur
This is a charming place with colonial style decor , addionally they have a separate seating in a glass house outside. Must say they serve really nice continental food. We tried Manchow soup , club sandwich , grilled chicken in mushroom sauce and carribean salad . Every thing was good except the club sandwich , I think they can improvise there. Otherwise it is great place to hang out in oaty.
Raveesha Gupta
Its a lovely place, gives you the feel of dining in a royal home. The staff is very courteous, you can bring your own booze and food is amazing!

It was my travel partner’s birthday. So,we were looking for some decent place for dinner and came to know about this place. It is at the hill top and not a walkable distance from bus stop.Best time is during sunlight to enjoy the scenic view. They have nicely given British/European flavour to the interior and ambience. We were actually full so did not order much..But still we tried French Onion soup, greek chicken kabab. Both were upto the mark.
But attention seeker was their dessert : white chocolate brownie.Birthday girl was impressed by its presentation..and taste wise it is really delicious and must try dish.
Their service was also humble and genuine.Bonfire was keeping us cozy.Overall we enjoyed our dinner time.

Forget, in the middle of the hills, had I discovered such a place even in the midst of a modern metropolitan city, I would have found it an absolute delight. We were told by somebody known to us that this place was a must-visit if one is in Ooty and I'd suggest the same by way of this review.

While the drive up there from the main city is slightly long, it does turn out to be worth it. The ambience - indoors as well as outdoors - was done up very well, especially with Christmas having been around the corner, when we visited. The food was excellent as well. However, despite the 5, one place where I'd suggest improvement is needed is in the service, which was slightly slow despite the restaurant not having many visitors at the time we visited.
Ashish Fatnani
So we stayed in the Hotel Kings Cliff which has Earl's secret as it's restaurant!
First the ambience is a visual delight to the history lovers ! It has remnants of the British Raj ! It used to be a hotel in the 1900s and is restored now!

Second the service is amazing here ! Very nice and well spoken staff ; it's a hill station so remember it's laid back and they won't serve after hours ! Period !!!

Coming to the food - Mind blowing

Veg Club Sandwich - 4/5 (has a samosa inside)
Chicken club Sandwich - 4/5
Cheese Sandwich - 5/5
Kadak Chai - 3.5/5
Hot Chocolate - 4/5
Omlette and hash browns with toast- 4/5
Butter chicken - sweet - 4/5
Paneer kabab - 4/5
Masala Papad - 4/5
Caramel Custard -5/5
Apple Pie - 5/5

Overall Rating

Ambience - 5/5
Service -5/5 (we were treated well by the young server named Kunal Mondal)

P.S. It is a BYOB so you can bring your own bottle ! Continental food is their forte for main course but starters wise go Desi !

Just the perfect place I was looking for....If in Ooty and money is no constraint(₹500 pp),don’t miss this....If the place & food wins your senses....the staff wins your heart.....

Nice ambience but had difficulty in reaching as maps mislead us a bit. With the help of locals and the rerouted maps we were able to make it there for dinner.
Dishes:
Broccoli and nut soup: creamy and nice.
Tangy crispy pepper potato: very nice. Liked the sauce with which the chips were tossed with.
Crepes with zucchini: nice...liked the cheesy dip and the sauce which came with the dish.

Earls secret is probably one of the best and classiest resteraunt s in the biz. The ambience is very quaint depicting the history of the house with art and decor fitting to this location. They host a variety of food from Indian to continental. We went as a family of 18 and enjoyed the continental fare.
It was simply brilliant! From their Roast Lamb to their Fillet Mignon everything was made perfectly.
Our biggest compliments to the chef Kiran for making these intricate dishes for 18 people so quickly! Also it should be noted that they don’t serve alcohol but do allow you to bring your own and there is no corkage charged.
Anyway bottom line -
Service - 5/5
Ambience - 5/5
Food - 5/5

Overal - 5/5

Earl’s secret

Genuinely one restaurant which stands out in ooty.
Multi cuisine restaurant which is a bit hard to locate and reach as its on top of a cliff but it’s worth going.
Amazing service and ambience and beautiful scenery.
Fish and chips were good as well. The dip served with it is really good.

The Nasi goreng is a piece of art.
With the perfect balance of flavours, the nasi goreng is a must have!

Butter naan was made so well and cooked to perfection. Best eaten with the butter chicken which is the perfect complement.

Earls secret white brownie dessert is a must have.
The perfect end to a good meal.

Very beautiful ambience and surroundings. We went there for lunch and was seated at their outdoor restaurant. The food was fine...not great not bad. But the beautiful surroundings made up for it. The staff was very courteous too. Getting to this place is a little difficult; it’s situated on a cliff. But it’s worth it. Enjoyable experience.
Sachi Is Veggie
This is a must visit place when in Ooty. Wonderful location, the view is mind blowing. The restaurant is very colonial and the staff are very courteous and helpful. You can have a chat with the hotel manager Mr Daniel who is very friendly and professional. One can dine in the glass gazebo outside or within the old colonial bungalow. We sat inside as it was sunny. The menu comprises of continental to Indian dishes.
We ordered for a mushroom soup which was served in a wide bowl and was creamy and delicious. We had crispy veggies in schezwan sauce and veg momos. The crispy veggies was well made, but the momos were a bit over cooked. We had veg biryani served with raita gravy and papad. The spices were mild and tasted good.
The Dal khichdi, pastas and desserts are very good here. The prices are a bit exorbitant but totally worth it.

Beautiful British typed interiors, outdoor seating with bonfire and sitting in glass house... various options for dining and all are equally beautiful... food is really good.. do try the ginger carrot soup, bruschettas and alferado pasta... a must visit when in Ooty!

It's an amazing place. Had a lovely lunch and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible ambience waiting to take you deep into nature. The restaurant was filling up quickly. Enjoyed tasty fish, cooked in butter and cheese. Not too expensive affordable and on Hill top..if you visit Ooty you should surely visit this place.

The ambience of this place was to die for! We were seated inside for dinner. With bookshelves and fireplace, this kind of reminds you of the Gryffindor common room! We ordered the Earl's roast lamb and mee-goreng. I liked the mee-goreng a lot, the meat, the noodles, the sauce, the veggies all complemented each other. The portion is also enough for two people. The roast lamb was a disappointment. I quite didn't like the flavor of the sauce... Felt that there was too much of a particular spice that ruined the taste. The Panna Cotta was so good that I just wanted more and more. It would have been amazing if the food didn't take long.
Akhil & Angitha (A&A)
One of the best restaurants in Ooty and a fabulous place to stay. The perfect place for continental food and it gives you variety of ambiances such as old English style dining, glass house restaurant and my personal favorite the out door tables with mountain view. The food is good, we ordered soup, pasta and chicken main course. All of these were very good and the staff are also very polite. The restaurant manager was very nice and had spent time with us to tell us about the history of the property. It's one of the must try places in Ooty
Mukesh Kumar
Highly recommended for the scenic surroundings. And the vintage furniture and decor of the place. Quite an uphill track to reach the place. Though the food was okayish still perhaps the best place to be in Ooty on a lazy afternoon

Best part about this place was the food. The place was overcrowded on a long weekend Sunday at lunch time. Staff was courteous and prompt...
The food is so good that I want to kidnap the chef. His name is Peter and make sure you ask for his signature dishes and then order. A 5/5 on any day.

Very good well maintained setup . We went for breakfast and had walked almost a km to reach there. So we were pretty hungry by the time we reached :) , food was good , we had two variety of omelletes with standard bread and butter, one fruit platter with papaya , grapes and watermelon. Food quality was very good and we finished it off with tea
. Staff was very courteous. Food quality and taste was very good , only putting 4 because I think cost was little on higher end given the quantity.

As mentioned by others approach road is a bit confusing, considering we went for dinner (With no street light & Proper road), food to start with starter was good, their continental is just amazing (Not recommenced got authentic Indian food) Soup and everything after that till desserts was good. But the best was yet to come with the desserts, we had a walnut brownie with white chocolate sauce, it is to die for.

Review No 548:

This review is based on a lunch outing experience at Earl's Secret. This review is slighted late in being posted as Ooty restaurants were not listed on Zomato until sometime back.

This place is slightly difficult to locate. We had set out to look for a different place but ended up at Earl's Secret by chance...and during Lunch time :) The place is dated but maintained well. The garden seating area, the glass covered seating area in specific was used for larger groups. Inside, the old world charm continues to be showcased in every corner.

What did we try?

Bhatti Ka Murgh: Started off with Bhatti Ka Murgh. The marination left the meat tender for sure and moreover it was cooked well.

Murgh Tikka Masala: Left unimpressed. The quantity, taste was unlike what a tikka masala should be. Irrespective which part of the country we dine in.

Butter Roti: The second round of Rotis were passable.

Service: Was slow. But when you are basking in the lap of nature, there is no telling how time flies.

Like many well managed and maintained places in Ooty, this place scores on ambience but the food and pricing were a letdown.

To sum it up, is it worth the detour and finding your way through winding hills, I'm not so sure. Ratings thus far on basis the experience at Earl's Secret in Ooty is as follows:

Food: 3/5
Price: 3/5
Service: 2/5
Ambience: 4/5
*****************
Overall: 3/5 (implied rating of 3 on Zomato)

We had travelled for a long time. We were tired. Then we looked around for recommendation for a good start to our holiday in Ooty and we found Earl's Secret. What a place ! Amazing ambience. The cozy and warm interiors almost complemented the chilly weather inside. The soups (chicken manchow and tomato soup) we're probably the best I have had in a long time.
The main course of corn palak and chicken was awesome. Just the right amount of masala.
The staff was courteous

I am not giving a 5 star just because I found them to be a little too costly and the 7% service charge could be made optional

If you are in Ooty and you are looking for a good place to sit back and have good conversation and food..this is the place

We drove fro Elk hill. After bit of long journey through crowded Ooty This place is like a Paradise.

Great ambience. Old but spacious and wonderful place. Menu and description set expectations high. We went complete vegetarian. Ordered Soups and starters from continental. Main from Indian and finished with mousse.

Kofta and Mousse were not up to mark. But otherwise overall very good experience. Few corrections will make this fine dining experience to much greater hights.

Ambience is wow. Service is bit slow but food is awesome. Best part of the place is the way they have maintained the heritage look of the venue.

Amazing food. The white chocolate pastry and ice cream is to die for. Went here for 4 meals abs wasn't disappointed even once. Here attached is a picture of the paneer ratatouille which deserves a 5/5.

Above average Italian cuisine. Priced at an average of Rs.600 per head. Expensive. But nice ambiance. Over all a good experience............

The best ambience and scenic restaurant i visited in south India. We celebrated our parents' 25th wedding anniversary here. Had everything booked prior reaching there and oh my! They had arranged for cakes and flowers and decorations so beautifully. The food was good. We started with hara bhara kebab and then went on to have some north Indian cuisine. The place had such a classy crowd. The main sitting area was so well lit with a fireplace outside in the waiting hall. Had a feeling I was outside India on some hill stations having a quality time with family. The waiting staff and manager was very friendly and hospitable. Had a perfect evening thanks to their promptness in servicing. The only drawback is its route. Its difficult to reach there without google maps but once u reach a point on its way u see direction signs everywhere for earls secret. It is way up the hill.

This a must visit place ! The ambience of the place is super whether it be indoor or outdoor and the food is nice. They do need to work on their service though. We visited when there weren't that many people but the staff wasn't attentive despite being more than sufficient .

Set in a space away from the main city of Ooty, this restaurant was much awaited for it features in Zomato's places with a view.. But it is definitely not a place with a view. It is beautiful in its own right with tastefully decorated interiors and well maintained gardens of the hotel.

The staff was courteous and helpful. The ambience of the restaurant quite restful.

The food was just shy of good, and for the price; the taste and the portions both didn't add up.

Overall worth it for the peacefulness if you are lucky to not find vacationers with small kids watching noisy irritating videos on mobile phones while parents uncaring ignore it all and focus on their food. Then again, maybe it's excuse able for this establishment runs on its resident vacationers so no complaints. Just unlucky for us.

Hope others are luckier.

Oh My Gawwd . The place , their ambience , the green glass restaurant and more importantly their FOOD - it’s all a 5⭐️ experience . The Italian food here is a real blend of proper spices - which would just add on to your foodie love. Their restaurant - closed one is also very good furnished and palatial.Have tried the dessert - brownie with Vanilla icecream - don’t go by the name , it’s definetly not what you find everywhere else - it’s a must try. It’s a costly affair though .Information - food is served in the glass restaurant only during breakfast and lunch hours . The place is also a good choice for some very great photographs. On the whole , it’s a must try for all food and ambience lovers .

This place is heaven between the hell! coz of the scary route, you have to depend on Google Maps to reach here. It is suggested to go by your own vehicle coz it is on top of the hill and transportation is a concern, but once you reach the place it is beauty at it's best. There is no alcohol available but you can buy your drinks and have here. Moreover their food was amazing. The food tastes great and the services were super quick. The staffs are well behaved and always welcoming. The orders were brought quickly. We tried soups and starters it was good. Really happy to visit the place. Highly recommended!

Pretty amazing place hidden in the hills of ooty. Everything about this place reminded me of 'Narnia'. Food, location, service, ambience everything is magical.

3.5 would be more appropriate rating.

Well this is a house built by a British in the early 1900s. Something that they did in many picturesque locations.

There is a part where you can stay as well.

The view is very good. But I am sure it must have been very different those days.

I used to visit this place 10 years back, and times have changed.

Although the place is very beautiful, but not as it used to be.

Food is very good and so is the staff.

You cannot leave Ooty without eating here. The most beautiful ambience and impressive food. Trust the Chef and you won't leave without thanking him personally. I haven't seen a clearer night sky and a more beautiful view.

Standing away from the maddening congestion and the smothering pollution of the town this restaurant gives you a chance to break off the monotony of the typical South Indian breakfast and North Indian supper of your vacation.Just from the St. Stephen’s church an uphill drive takes you through the dense wilderness and in the next 15 minutes you reach the cliff of the hill. Hence, the name. Hotel King’s Cliff. The restaurant, Earl’s Secret,is part of the Hotel. We went there for Supper on our last night in Ooty. It was absolutely dark and serene with a mild drizzling outside . We felt being transported into a different era as soon as we got off in front of that colonial bungalow. It was a 150 year old building with all its colonial charm nicely maintained. The Fireplaces in the lobby area and in the restaurant along with the lively jazz made us feel the warmth.
Though the restaurant serves Indian menu we were there for continental. So we ordered Roasted Lamb steak, Grilled Chicken fillet,Spaghetti with meatballs and some pasta in white sauce.
While waiting for the food we found the place to be fully crowded by locals who come here for some exclusive continental dinner.( It was a Sunday night and Dussehra)
The food was lip- smacking. The lamb was well cooked without any foul smell. The flavour of rosemary of the brown sauce was well absorbed by the chicken chunks. Never have I had such good continental outside the city before.Honestly speaking, from some of our previous experience, I was not expecting that much of authenticity here. But Earl’s Secret blew off all my premonitions.
Still I would like to mention some points without which the service would have been flawless. Firstly, though being very liberal( because of the honest effort to cling to the authenticity of the taste)we were super satisfied with the food but for the grilled chicken fillet the dish appeared on the table was not exactly the one described in the menu. The description says the chicken fillets are to be “filled “with minced chicken .... but in actual they were simple grilled chicken fillets. The meatballs would have well accompanied the spaghetti if they were lamb meatballs.Meatballs are generally made of minced lamb or beef as it is the taste of meat not the chicken that goes well with the red sauce.
Secondly, it’s awkward not to have bread rolls at your side along with a steak. On asking, the staff informed that they don’t keep it . When so many exotic ingredients are being arranged there why not a few simple bread rolls? It’s an integral part of a continental dish as the cuisine is pretty different from Indian cuisine-both in presentation as well as in quantity . Also the portion of veggies accompanying the dishes was not sufficient . I think, this to be a serious area of improvement as the price here is at per with that of any standard continental restaurant in the city. So why the difference in portion and availability of accompaniments?
Otherwise it’s a decent place for a good change over while you are staying in Ooty. A must visit if you really miss continental in your trip.

Wanted to end the Ooty trip with a perfect lunch , chose this beautiful glasshouse for it.
The earls secret is so romantic and so 90's.
The service was even better. We had reached around 3 nearly the closing time but we were served with happy faces.
We got the wonton soup which was good.
Vietnamese spring roll I didn't even want to eat them .the presentation was wow. Tasted even better.
Got two other pasta which was delicious.
Vfm -4.5/5

Too costly food not worth it at all and very bad service. We took both continental and Indian and both were not at all good. The staff seems more partial for some people don't understand why and didn't even bother to provide mouth fresher or attend to the table. The ambience is okay but not worth enough if you really want to enjoy try some place else

A scary place to go at night, since stars are the only guiding light taking you there (no lamp posts).
However, it is worth the adventure. A picturesque image from the King's cliff, courteous staff and delicious food.
Things to try out:
- Chicken Hakka Noodles (The best I've ever had)
- Chilly Chicken
- Chicken Fried Rice
- Veg Wanton Soup (A must have!)
It is recommended that you visit at the day time for breakfast as well, since authentic British breakfast is to die for.

Have been to this place couple of times and always had an amazing experience. But today I went for breakfast at 9:30 and staff told me that breakfast is closed even though it is clearly mentioned that it's opened till 10 ! Staff didn't even try to give any alternative of any sort.

It was really disappointing. Such a beautiful property and thus kind of experience is very sad full.

It's a pretty place with a very good view and dining. Just that reaching here is a task. One cannot reach without Google maps, and specially in night to reach there is a bit scary because the roads are not in good condition and there is no street lights available as well. We tried many dishes and they were amazing. Staff is courteous and services are nice as well. Highly Recommended but better to visit in day time

Unprofessional staff. Food is also below average. Place is not properly maintained it is unhygienic and the staff is very inconsiderate towards food allergies although they have mentioned it in the menu. They were rude dismissive and do not care about anyone’s medical condition associated with the allergy. Starting from the manager to everyone else they don’t care about the customers. NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE.

We went there for lunch on a weekend and it was pretty crowded. The food is delicious specially the non veg. But the service could have been better. Loved the pasta and the starters.

The location of the restaurant is amazing. Their friendly staff, the beautiful vintage looking restaurant and the beautiful exterior glass house make you want to stay back or keep coming to this place. The food was good and the service great. A must visit when in Ooty!

Earl’s secret has a very serene and peaceful surrounding. Cause we could not make it for lunch here, we went for coffee. The garden restaurant, the glass restaurant is extremely beautiful and the gardens are to die for. An evening cup of coffee is all we could steal here but next time this is the place I would love to stay as well. It’s was simply gorgeous with that hot mug of cappuccino in my hands!!

One of the best dining options in Ooty. Earl's Secret is located a tad far from the main town but if you're having your own conveyance, it makes a lot easier for you to visit this place. The place is awesome. Great ambience interior as well as exterior. Plus the food they serve is of niche quality. Though we thought the service was a tad slow but worth waiting for such a delicious food.

We ordered hakka noodles, dal makhani and breads. For desserts we had Earl's Secret Walnut Brownie with Ice Cream and the dessert was the best amongst the all.

Must visit if you're visiting Ooty.
