Review Soul Chef, Goa - Panjim

Janina
This place is amazing. The location is small and very comfortable. You'll feel welcomed from the beginning by the very kind and attending staff and the cozy atmosphere. The Soul Chef himself helped us to decide what to get from the menue and what we got, was 100% satisfying our tastebuds. An overall very pleasing experience from start to end. Even the choice of music was perfect.

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is delicious especially the homemade ice-cream is outstanding. The service extremely friendly and helpful. I would always come back.

Cozy little place in Fontainas... Excellent north eastern cuisine.. The owners and their lil daughter Gia take good care of you... Pork momos, Pork chilly roast, Dry Chilly prawns, forbidden fried rice were all excellent.. Tried thukpa for the 1st time ..... They also have a couple of burgers on the menu which the kids loved.... Oh and the Assamese fish fry is definately something u have to order. A must try place ...if you want to try out something different.

Visited this "quaint" North East (NE) cuisine restaurant, in by-lanes of Fontainhas (Mala, Panjim), Sunday lunch. (Google maps helped us). This place gets known mainly by word of mouth; Mona the owner is fine with that. Mona was kind to go through the menu (3 pages) with us, and guided us in shortlisting items. Cocktails: Red lotus (gin based) cocktail - recommended; and Virgin Red lotus. Starters: Roast chilli pork, and prawns in dry bambo shoot - both highly recommended. Entrée: Black sesame pork Curry (comes c rice) - good, and shillong chilli pork noodles - super. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for unique NE cuisine; and if you are a pork lover then definitely mark this place in your must 'go-to' list. One needs atleast a couple of visits, to do justice to the menu variety. Note: Currently, rates are inclusive of Taxes. There is a 10% SC.

It's a small old Portuguese home, converted to cafe. It has nice ambience and food. Taste is good. I didn't like the drinks much. But food was good

In the Portuguese quarter of Panjim stands this quaint little restaurant serving food from India's North East. It's small but the menu is large, and the prices are reasonable. The good is good as are the servings. But be careful if you order. You may get short changed.

Chicken Thukpa - flavourful, light on stomach , authentic. Fermented bamboo prawns - unique flavour and so tasty. Highly recommend place

I am definitely a few years late to the party. This place is a hidden gem in goa. I had the best chicken momos goa can offer along with a superb chilli chicken and a perfectly cooked mutton curry. Courteous staff, fantastic food. Must visit

Wanted a new and different experience and got exactly that. Very authentic Northeastern food, the staff is really helpful if you need recommendations. Parking is a bit issue if it's a busy time. Not a very spacious place (I am 6ft) but really good decor and that adds to the experience.

Everything was so tasty. I enjoyed the Shillong style egg noodles and the potato and mushroom in black sesame sauce. They have a lot of amazing north east options. Hidden gem in Panjim and definitely a must try. I’ll be going back here again.

Do not be discouraged if you see the 'closed' sign during working hours. Just call them and ask for reservation cause that's what we did. We really wanted to eat here and thankfully, we got a chance to. It was worth it in the end! Their Pork Momos are genuinely the best momos we have ever had. We even ordered more for takeaway. Moreover, we had Chicken Curry in Fermented Bambooshoot with rice which was really good. It was flavourful and wasn't spicy at all. We also had Black Sesame and Tiramisu gelatos. It was my first time trying out Northeastern food but certainly not the last! We ordered their Shillong Street Style Noodles a few days later through Zomato. Delish and different from what I am used to.

Awesome place to visit for an authentic taste of Northeastern cuisine. We tried the Veg Thupka, cumin and Peppercorn chicken and fried rice. All were fantastic! Hibiscus iced tea was also very refreshing on a hot day. So glad we came across this restaurant while touring fontainhas :) Thank you and hope to return soon!

Was waiting to review this place. The owners are great guys. They come forward to help you with the selection of dishes as per your palate. I loved the pork momos here, and the second most fav was prawn in fermented bamboo shoot. I loved their exclusive chilli oil. Chilli oil and plain rice itself was a great combo. All pork items were great too... Loved it overall. Deserts and drinks were at another level

An enjoyable lunch, the pork mills were delectable, the hibiscus lemon ice tea not to sweet just right, the shillong style noodles were yummy and the service was warm. A quaint cafe that came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint 😊

This review is a culmination of about a month's worth of longing. It starts with my trip to Meghalaya, where I was sadly unable to taste many local delicacies, like Jadoh. So, imagine my surprise finding in Goa. And what a treat it was! I tried the chorizo momos (couldn't resist the goan-fusion), the pork jadoh rice, and fermented rice beer (homemade). Each of these items left me extremely pleased. They came in good quantities and they tasted exceptional. The rice beer has a bit of a funky tatse, but it's more appealing than kombucha. I tried the black sesame and bhut jalokia gelatos. The owner warned me about the latter's spice, but I tried it anyway and was overwhelmed. I ordered a scoop of French Vanilla to get my sanity back. But overall, all three were delicious, even if one was more than I could handle.

The food is delicious. We ordered chilly mushroom, pork ribs, bhootjholakiya prawns and Assamese style cooked fish curry with rice. Everything was delicious especially the pork ribs were so wonderfully cooked and juicy. The homemade gelatos we got for dessert were also great. Service is apt, the place is very clean and the hosts are super friendly. A must visit place.

Absolutely splendid! Tucked away in the charming lanes of Mala-Panjim, this place is a culinary gem that you simply cannot miss. If you're a fan of meat, this spot is a must-visit. While I had previously savored the delights of North Eastern cuisine, with its classic fermented bamboo shoot pork dishes, I decided to skip that acquired taste this time and opted for the Pork Momos, which were nothing short of extraordinary. The Shillong Style Prawns stole the show with their exquisite preparation. Cooked to perfection, they boasted the ideal balance of texture and juiciness. The accompanying masalas for each dish were spot on. Don't miss out on pairing their delectable curries with the indigenous Assamese Joha Rice. We went for the Sunday pork curry, and its flavors harmonized perfectly with the rice. A special shout-out to the owners Monalisa Baruah and Saurav Parashar, both from Guwahati and the staff for their commendable efforts. Saurav personally kept track of every customer, engaging with us and sharing the fascinating journey behind their North Eastern cuisine. Kudos to a memorable dining experience!

AMBIENCE- 5 STAR Good and Vibrant vibe. Great for a lunch outing with friends, or fun meets. Service is good (owners take order and serve food themselves right now, I think which made me feel very welcome). Food- Loved their Sikkimese Thukpa Bowl. 5 STAR. Taste was totally amazing. Would definitely order this again. Chicken wings - 4 STAR. Sauce was kind of gluey and sticky to the fingers. However, the taste was amazing. Beverages- Fresh lime water: Good (flavoured perfectly- not too tangy, a moderate blend of sweet and salt). Ginger Ale- They give you canned one. Works fine as a replacement for beer or coke to go with Chicken wings.

An authentic Assamese meal, that too in Goa? Yes, it surely is a rarity to find this in Goa but places like @soulchefgoa are here to fill up this gap. Nestled in a quiet corner in Fontainhas just near the Gitanjali Art Gallery, this place has a menu with the most delicious dishes from the North East. The aloo koni pitika and pork bamboo shoot curry went beautifully with the rice. We also tried the Dohkleh, a Pork salad from Meghalaya and Jadoh, a rice preparation made with pork blood. Everything was full of flavours and so fresh. The meal ended with some Bhoot Jolokia (Ghost Pepper) infused chocolate gelato which surely was one of most unique things I had tasted in the recent times. This place was started by two home chefs who felt North East food had the potential of tantalising the taste buds of the people in Goa and they are surely doing a great job. Must visit if you are a meat lover and want to try something new!

A good restaurant for your north eastern cravings. The owner helps you choose the menu as per your taste. The food is authentic. Tried pork momos, naga chicken wings and the traditional khasi rice jadoh. All were good. The food was served quickly as well.

A very inviting place.. had heard a lot about soul chef.. and it lived to the expectations. We tried their streamed chicken momos, chilli chicken north east style and chilli noodles, which were spicy but tasty and also reasonably priced. Hope to revisit soon..

Visited here with my wife on a saturday afternoon, fyi space is cramped with no washroom, bar stools and two sofas for seating. Ambience is good. Had the chorizo momos which was nice. Pork chops were tasty. But was disappointed with the Shillong noodles and Chicken curry, too bland for my palate. Good place for a quick visit.

Sould chef is a wonderful place to be. When I say that, I mean it in a wholistic manner. The ambience, food, people, quality, everything is great! Its a place one you want to go dine at again. The place makes your heart melt with the warm greetings from the owners. They are people passionate about food who are at your service. The menu flavour profile is extravagant. You are can choose from a pork curry in black sesame, noodles and rice, pork chops, chicken curry to a Chorizo Momo which is THE star of this place. Due to the small size this outlet, one might it difficult to find a table but trust me it is worth the wait! You will definitely end up chatting with the people around and make your dining experience even more special. Must try and I hope you all have a great experience like I did!

A cute little place, very courteous owners and equally delectable meals. Had tried pork in bamboo shoots and chicken in sesame curry. Best place if you wish to try out some north-eastern delicacies in Goa. Highly recommend!!!

Finding a piece of east in western European streets of Fontainhas can be quirky but is an exiquisite experience! A small cafe has beautiful options up on their menu! While we just had their cheese veg dumplings, we can say that there were so many treasures that can be tried!
Also check for their North Eastern delicacies

A little small place for seating comfortably

Came across this cosy little place thanks to a random post on Instagram that featured their chorizo momos and knew I had to visit them. So glad I did - the food is FANTASTIC, highly recommend the momos and the roast chilli pork. Also, do try their Bhut Jolokia pork chops, because I came SO close to doing so but chickened out because I thought maybe they’d be too spicy, but after looking at photos of the dish I’m kicking myself! Kudos to the owners for their warm and welcoming service AND their adorable little helper who’s cheeks I struggled to refrain from pinching 😂

This is a cute little restaurant in panjim. Ambiance is great. They offer North-east Indian cuisine. We ordered
- Veg cheese Momos: This is must try. Served with a spicy sauce, its one of the best momos in Goa.
- Shillong street style noodles: Recommended. Has spicy flavour and it's delicious.
- Mushroom in black sesame: A unique dish with definitely a unique blend of flavours right from the north east to your plate.
Service: Prompt and quick.
Cost: Most of the items lie in range of 250-350 bucks.
Would definitely recommend this place!!

Amazing place with equally amazing food. Being vegetarians, we had limited options but the Shilling street style noodles blew my mind that I had to try Mushroom in Black sesame. Turned out to be one of the best decisions I made on my trip to Goa.

Exceptionally good vegetarian momos! The best I've ever had in Goa actually. The opposite of the doughy, aenemic ones you may have had elsewhere. The pork bamboo shoot wasn't bad either. And it's SO good to see a North Eastern eatery in Panjim. I'm 100% going back for more...

Hands down favourite comfort food place in Goa with warm hospitality. Saurav and Mona have customised the place to be such a warm welcoming little joint, combined with their knack of great conversations while serving delicious North eastern food. I have been there multiple times and the experience has always been consistent.
The shilling street style noodles during monsoon is a delectable combination, perfect kick of spice and comfort. Aloo Pitika was my favorite new discovery and I am a fan now of the recipe. The black sesame mushrooms were good too, very basic and homely. Loved the vegetarian Momos as well, very light wrapping and delicious filling. Not at all heavy, and the chutney is perfect.
It's amazing to get to try some traditional Assamese food and it's a great attempt to introduce people to some undiscovered cuisines.
Also, don't forget to say Hi to Gia, the daughter of the chefs, happiest kid in town you'll meet.

Beautiful place tucked in the bylanes of panaji, cozy and subtle interiors, this place is run by duo husband and wife and thier cute baby pie. We read reviews about this place on a online portal and this place is worth every penny.
We ordered the chorizo momos, pork ribs with bhoot jholakia, chicken in black sesame.

When we took the parcel my wife said to the owner she is salivating just at the aroma spread across the whole restaurant and even the food was too good.
Chorizo momos one of kind. Thin momo wrapping subtle flavours. Pork ribs melt in mouth falling apart but we missed the kick of the chilly. Chicken in sesame sauce was different than any normal thai or Chinese cuisine.

Service was slow but trust me it's worth waiting.and my first 5 star rating in the Zomato reviews. Waiting to eat more at this place.

Soul Chef is a restaurant located in the always aesthetic and colourful locality of fontainhas in Goa. My friend and I chanced upon this beauty when we were cruising through the narrow lanes, looking for a place to eat and relax.

Aesthetically, the restaurant provides its patrons a very "home-like" feeling. The place offers a beautiful small green garden with potted plants and alike at it's entrance which is a refreshing sight to see. The seating is limited and it may seem cramped if you're used to a more spacious setting.

The cuisine offered by the restaurant was "North East Indian" with the Owners and Chef Saurav and Mona Parashar who make you feel comfortable and guide you through choosing the best options. I was reminded that the cuisine is unique and everything on the menu offered something new to our Goan tastebuds.

What we ate:

World's first Chorizo Momo's Rs. 250

Look: 5/5
Taste:5/5
Price:4/5

Soul Chef Signature Pork Chops in Bhut Jolokai and Jaggery Rs. 350

Look: 4/5
Taste:5/5
Price: 4/5

Chicken Jo Doh Rs. 300

Look:3/5
Taste:4/5
Price:3/5

We accompanied our meal with the very refreshing Classic Mint Ice Teas (Rs. 100) offered at the restaurant.

Overall I would like to emphasis again that the cuisine is a new experience and I believe everyone should try it out. The dishes I tried were delicious, the meats were especially well seasoned and cooked ( something which is rare). I would definitely recommend you try the Chorizo Momo's here. I however, I do believe the restaurant has the potential to be better when it comes to presentation and pricing. We indeed had a very pleasant experience here.

I hope this was helpful. :)
