Review Sri Kamatchi In Biriyani Veedu - Pondicherry

Shantanab Mukherjee
The highlight of the place is food. That too have it at the restaurant. Loved all the biriyanis that we had for consecutive two days. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone who visits Pondi. Only thing I would recommend is to move one reception outside of the place so that the entrance is not crowded on a busy day. It gets very hard to even talk to the receptionist.

Heard a lot about this place from the locals so finally tried it. The taste is worth the effort and the price. They have 3 to 4 locations. This place is very small hardly 5 tables in the dining hall. They serve food on banana leaves. Ordered fish fingers and some fish kamatchi fry then prawn fried rice, egg fried rice and dosa. Fish fingers was awesome. All rice dishes were low in salt. Had to add additional salt. Ended with goli 🥤 soda. Overall an amazing spot for food.

I went to this restaurant after a long time of 6 to 7 years. I ordered a prawn biriyani with kuli omblete. I had a full biryani alone and was satisfied with taste and quantity. They provided sufficient quantity of prawns and they are cooked perfectly. They also had many varieties but hadn't tried them. I will make another review after visiting them with my brother. The downside is that we had to share our table with strangers due to crowd. Apart from that everything from service to atmosphere is great. Must try restaurant in Pondicherry

The food is amazing, we visited on Saturday and had to wait for 30-45 mins in the afternoon. Most of the options were over and not available at 1:30 PM. They were serving only mutton biryani and one starter (image attached) The taste was good. And we found an amazing drink, it was so so damn yumm...we became fan (photo attached

Single line review: Must visit 🔥, it will not disappoint 👍🤝 Full review: If you came to pondi, you must visit this. One of the best hotels to taste original pondi food. Everything here is good. We ordered Chicken Biryani, Mutton Kuzhambu, Chicken Kuzhambu, prawns kamatchi, fish kamatchi, chicken kuzhi omlet, viral fish fry, Jigarthanda and guess what Everything is too good. None of them disappointed. And everything is must eat. Cost was not that high. Don't come here if you are not that hungry. Come With empty Stomach and go wild on the menu. Trust me you will not disappoint. Service was good, they were polite. It doesn't have much ambience just good enough. *Free Dish Alert 😋* : They will provide Rasam annam as complementary. Try it. It is not the best rasam, but as it is free it tastes good 😅. Note : ✅ This restaurant is too famous here. So, basically in the peak hours it will be much crowded. So come at earliest hours. ✅ This restaurant will be opened from 12-4 PM and 630 to 11PM. So it's best to come at 12:15PM or 6:45PM. ✅ They can speak English, So it's not a problem to communicate. ❌ Don't randomly order the food if you don't know them. If you ask they will suggest the dishes according to your taste. ❌ Don't prefer this If you are vegetarian. Ratings : Food: 8.5/10 Ambience: 7/10 Cleanliness: 8/10 Service : 7.5/10 ✅ They will accept UPI, Cash, Card. ❌ It is better to carry cash or card as we can't get signals inside the restaurant. Pros: ✅ Cost is Not that high ❤️ ✅ Authentic tastes 👍👍 Cons : ❌ Parking Not Available. ❌ Not good for vegetarians. ❌ Quantity will be less. Can you go with - girlfriend : ✅ ✅ family : ✅✅ friends : ✅✅ Oct 4th 2023 Edit: Now they are not giving complementary rasam rice

Mutton Biriyani is average, prawn roast is excellent, very few tables and it accommodates only 30 to 35 Slightly hyped by youtubers, but food is not bad and not great Try prawns excellent Service is too slow, overall one time you can try

The best mutton biryani. The Salan is so flavourful. This is the place to go if you want to have authentic Tamil cuisine. Everything is served on a banana leaf.

Loved the food.We had dosa & prawn curry. The fish kamatchi was truly amazing! Tender coconut payasam is a must have. Wanted to bring it to Bangalore, but the shelf life is only 2 hrs outside fridge. Requested Mr.Talairasan the waiter for quick service as we had to catch the train. He was exemplary, courteous and also v.helpful. Will surely visit this restaurant whenever I go to Pondicherry.

One of the nice places for non-veg lovers. Food is spicy and they have limited options for vegetarians. Even the vegetarian food is also spicy. The ambiance was nice and there is no Smokey or stringent smell like other Non veg hotels. Waiting time will be there during festival times and weekends.

Amazing food Quick service Point to point they say we have this much food from the menu only Food is amazing Must visit place

Delightful culinary creations graced our table, though the ambiance could use a touch of enhancement for a truly immersive dining experience.

A perfect place to get your fix of the finest traditional and local seafood spreads. Quality, service and affordability are beyond expectation. Will visit again

Chicken Biryani is superb and mutton sukka is very good.

Located in White Town, Sri Kamatchi was a place that a lot of people recommended and spoke highly of. They have modest seating arrangements and prompt service. I love how they serve their meals on banana leaves.

I had their Chicken Biryani which tasted pretty different from the ones I usually have tasted otherwise. It's made with a smaller rice grain and the spices are uniformly blended into the dish. Quite a new experience

Saw the ratings amd visited this place only to get disappointed

This is the Most Overrated Place. My Friend Suggested me to go to this restaurant and people rates this very highly. We tired mutton biryani here the biriyani was undercooked and mutton chunks were very hard. Service was very slow as well they took almost 30 mins to serve the biriyani and overall its very disappointing.

Rating

Ambience : 4/5Taste :2/5Cost : 3/5

Don't waste your time on this place
I usually do not write review but this place was too bad compared to the hype locals create about it.
Wanted to order dry prawn fry, server recommended one dish which turned out to be gravy... Tried to explain but the did not understand basic English. The other customers on my table tried to explain it to them in tamil but they did not care to replace or accept that they made a mistake understanding what i wanted. The food is basic, morning great. I had better food in a small canteen near my bed and breakfast. Do not waste your precious time on this place

This would be a very good place to have a melange of fusion south indian + chettinad cuisine with the minutest of french/new age influence. We tried the Mutton Dosa and the Onion Utthappam. The Utthappam was disappointing, the batter wasn't bringing any amount of taste. The mutton dosa however, because of the superbly cooked mutton gravy between the sheets of dosa, was extremely tasty.

We shared our table with a couple of guys as it got pretty busy on Christmas Night. Things were a bit chaotic and the service was choppy. Also, this seemed like a pretty popular place. Additionally, they offer a callback to good old indian spicy cooking amidst all the French restaurants in White Town.

Go here and try the mutton and prawns, you wont be disappointed. But go here solely for the taste and not for the ambience.

Been here after seeing good reviews for this hotel in pondicherry. Ordered Mutton biryani, Prawn Kamatchi, Seer Fish Fry and Vanjaram Fish Curry with Rice. All food items tasted good. Prawn Kamatchi is prawn fry with egg which was deep fried in oil. Biryani Quantity was little less. This hotel offers a complete Tamil Nadu style dishes.

Was searching for a restaurant famous in seafood. Found this famous place inside a street. Really really delicious food made with full of heart. The fried dishes are a must try along with the fish masala and rice combo. Do not miss this place while in Puducherry.

I am from Bangalore and when I was visiting Pondicherry, I was told to try biryani at this place. I'm o glad that I did. Totally enjoyed the mutton biryani here. It was delicious. Chicken 65 , mutton fry were also great. Fish fry is something you cannot miss here. It was so so good that we ended up ordering around 6 plates of the same. Totally worth it

We had our last meal in Pondicherry here.
Our server was such a nice and warm fellow.
We ordered rice, a chicken dish with coconut gravy as mains, chicken 65 and kamatchi fish as starters.
The food was wholesome and flavourful. One of the most affordable yet absolutely satisfying meals we had on our entire trip.
Love from Kolkata! 💜
Harsh Dubey

Been here for dinner. Tried Fish Curry, dosa, fish finger, mutton, chicken curry and dosa. Fish curry had a stale smell, mutton and chicken curry was ok. Fish fingers few pieces where nice but few where tasting stale. Dosa felt rice grains in raw which made the dosa taste bad. Overall the food was not great as many are stating. Being a core non-veg, had best fish curries in pondicherry at home and few other places around this hotel is not worth the hype given for the sea food and its curries. First experience tonight was bad. Decreasing trends cooking at home makes one say even ok ok food to be great.

Another famous place in Pondicherry if you are looking for a local traditional joint where you can get lip smacking food specially sea food at reasonable prices..We went to this place for lunch and have to wait for almost half an hour. So, another crazy place but worth every minute of waiting..the staff is really hospitable and courteous and the service is quite quick..
We ordered meals, biryani, egg curry, prawn kamatchi, etc and everything was just too good..portions were too good so a dually worth every penny you pay..
So, if you are in white town please do visit this place without fail to have some really yummm food food in traditional style on banana leaf at a super affordable price :)

Ordered mutton and prawn biriyani along with chicken and fish kamatchi. Totally loved the food. They also served as complimentary rasam and rice, which was also outstanding. Would totally recommend this place for biriyani lovers.

Being in pondicherry,I was craving for some authentic cuisine and after some research landed at this food paradise,i must say every taste bud of mine has thanked me after Having the Nathu kozhi Biryani which is almost half chicken marinated with yummylicious spices and aromatic rice served with curd and onion raita, rasam and also a bowl of plain rice .Quantity would serve 2 people more than enough. Was so full after this meal , couldnt order anything else. Will miss this taste in Mumbai definitely!!!!

Such an amazingly quick service despite being fully packed (there was a waiting time of about 10-15mins even on Friday Afternoon)
Vanjaram fry was very tasty. Chicken platter was on point. Prawns in Biryani were perfectly cooked.
All the waiters were so polite.
It is worth every penny. Absolutely loved the food.

A must to go place for Sea food lovers !!

This outlet in White Town has limited seating. So get there early. The cuisine is local. The seafood is fresh catch of the day.
Ordered the seafood & chicken platter. The seafood platter was awesome especially the Nethili fry. We realized its better to stick to seafood. So ordered Crab Roast & Fish Masala.
The fresh softness of the fish was striking. Most of the time we eat deep-frozen fish & our palates have forgotten what fresh fish tastes like. The Crab roast was like dry scrambled egg. It paired well with the curry (from the Fish) & rice.
This outlet also serves Ice Paan. It was a good way to end a heavy meal.

Located in White Town, this third restaurant in the chain. It is has very limited seating space so you may have to wait to get a table.
The service is quick, staff is friendly and patient. Our server was very patient in explaining the dishes to us. The food was great. It was prepared in authentic Tamil way. The fish curry we ordered was delicious.
I had bookmarked this place during my last visit to Pondicherry. Due to lack of time we couldn’t visit it. But this time we decided to visit this place the first and OMG! We were awestruck with the politeness of the staff. We ordered for prawns masala, plain parota and Nattu Kozhi Biriyani (Desi Chicken/Gavraan). All the 3 dishes were absolutely lip smacking with a typical South Indian masala flavour. Our table attendant insisted us to try the rassam rice as it’s their specialty and it would be on the house (Rassam photo attached). He got us a plate full of plain rice along with the rassam. I asked him the reduce the rice quantity as we were already full. The rassam was out of the world. Glad he requested us to try it or else I would have missed on one of the best rassam I have ever eaten in my life. To all those confused foodies looking at the reviews do decide on a place, DO TRY THIS. It won’t disappoint you! Happy eating ❤️

If you want to have the Kamatchi taste in White Town itself. I would suggest the other one in Pondy. Personally I felt the quality of mutton to be inferior to the outlet in Mudaliarpet. But it’s one of the very few places in White Town where you can have your fill without burning a hole in your pocket.
Highly recommended (either of the two outlets) for most Indians. If you want to mellow down the spice level, do ask for butter milk assortment (not charged) instead of rasam. However, they serve it only at lunch.

Top notch hospitality and lip smacking food - you have got to visit this place if you are in Pondicherry and you like sea food. We ordered two types of fish, prawn uttapam (something that blew my mind) and idiyappam. It was something new and did not take a long time for me to associate with it as my comfort food.

Fish venjaram thali is good.
Nice smooth taste.
Cordeal staffs.
Nice ambience.
Good restaurant.
Thali is nicely balanced.
Good place to be.

Go to this place if you like getting peanuts for your money. Ordered a fish curry and had a tiny skimpy fish drowning in it in a pool of liquid. If you are ready to order 4-5 dishes per person, this is the place to go to!

Really good food ,good service and extremely reasonable price...will visit again for sure...!! Located in white town area it's extremely easy to find..Expect a wait time of min 10 mins at the least !!

One of the best local Pondy restaurant which has maintained it's taste and quality .....a frequent visitor to this restaurant and over years their standards remain the same......we tried paratha , fish fry , mutton sukka , chicken dosa and briyani....... everything tasted good .....and even thought we went at closing time service was fast and good..... Authentic tasty Chettinad style restaurant...
Marquess
Possibly the best chettinad in Pondicherry with hotel Karaikal competing for the parota, thala curry, kola Urundai & rabbit roast honours.Definitely miles ahead in the biryani realm.Naatu kozhi especially. The karandi omelette is also a signature dish smacking of Madurai 'mess' culture. The family packs are a real hit with Pondicherians.Very handy take away for a family feast in case you want to try different cuisines for a decent get together. Great chettinad dood!Very piquant!
Divya S
A reasonably priced restaurant in white town.
Ordered for a natu kozhi biryani and prawn masala. Both tasted good.
Though the menu has other items like fried rice, I advise you to stick to their speciality to avoid disappointment.

Amazing Seafood! This is a very simple place serving authentic Chettinad food on plantain leaves. Don't expect anything flash, this is a very simple, typical Sth Indian eating place - but do expect to wait for a table, this place is very popular - we went twice to this place on our visit to Pondicherry, both time the food was delicious, maybe someones grandma's old recipes?? eat with your fingers, it's simply delicious !! We had, fish Curry, Kamatchi Prawns, prawn biriyani, Kamachi fish and Iddliuppams

Hotel Sri kamatchi is located at White town, Pondicherry. We went to this place on the last day of my trip and believe me we never regretted about it. This place serves amazing non veg food, specially seafood. We ordered vanjaram fry, nattu kozhi biriyani. Vanjaram fry was damn good, as well as nattu kozhi biriyani. They also serve steam rice bowl with biriyani which is very unique combo concept. I don't know about others but I really like that concept because usually I eat rice after having biryani. Ambience was kind of good whereas service was quick.

Seen some good review and went yesterday . But not to my liking. Viral meen kolambu is good. Rice not of good quality. Service very poor. Planning to try another day in their another restaurant , their Main one in 100 feet restaurant.

This outlet was the highlight of my trip to pondicherry. The food is served in banana leaf giving the food a south indian essence.
We tried
The veg meal : Served with rice, curry, gobi 65, creamy onions and curd, each and everything had such amazing flavours that i savoured every bite.
Chicken meal : Had boiled egg and chicken curry. The curry had perfect balance of spices.
Biryani : One of the best Biryani's i've had over the years. full of flavours and the curry with which it was served was lovely
The pan gave a perfect end to my lunch.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED eatery in pondicherry

Authentic taste of South. I have a love for South Indian thalis though we didn't get to taste thali here in the evening (it was not available) we had dosa with fish curry and mutton curry. Also not to forget the finger licking taste of the chicken dosa we had ordered the loved the food and enjoyed my meal

Awesome prawns biriyani and fish curry. Loved the taste and quantity. Very reasonable pricing. Service and ambience was also equally good. Overall it was awesome and experience.

Great food !!
If you want to have a good sea food delight in Pondichery, then this is the place to go !!
Try the kamatchi prawns and fish kamatchi.
We ordered the prawn biryani and king fish curry as well which was one of a kind !! MUST GO PLACE.

While travelling solo in Pondicherry last week I had my first late lunch in the city at Hotel Sri Kamatchi. Famous for their Biryani, I had ordered a plate of Mutton Biriyani and a plate of pepper mutton suggested by the house. The food was served hot, tasted amazing with a generous portion size (too much for one person a plate infact). Pocket friendly, I loved kamatchi's moist Biriyani with curry patta which was a lot different than my hometown Kolkata's biriyani! I wanted to have it on their signature banana leaf but they were out of the same. Loved my late first lunch at Biryani Veeru!

Zero star. As their popularity has reached their Head. And they care damn about the customers. They want you to eat the left overs. Very Bad. And Pathetic Experience.

This is a very small place in white town, just 100 myra away from rock beach. Getting parking near this place on weekends can be tricky.

They can accommodate max of 35-40 people here, so expect a waiting period while visiting this place.

Their top notch dish is Nati kozhi biriyani, which is served with a full extended leg piece.
Have tried mutton & prawns biriyani as well. Prawns biriyani bad very good prawns flavoured rice.

Plz don't visit restaurants on just seeing the ratings in Google. Plz avoid this place if u r going with ur family, especially if u have kids.

Sharing my horrible experience here.
Visited this place on 30-12-2018. Around 1.30 p.m very small restaurant. Only 20 can be seated at max. Went with my family which includes my elderly father and my two kids who are 5 years old. They took our name and informed 30 mins waiting time. And we saw only two groups waiting and 3rd is ours. So decided to wait. Since already it's a congested place and no place to sit. Somehow got a single chair for my kids. Half an hour went, many ppl in 2 r 3 batches came in. The ppl who came before us were accommodated. We thought next is us. But to our surprise, the person in charge started sending other men who cam after us. When my father questioned it, the person in charge started raising his voice and said "only we will decide whom to be accommodated" and started shouting at my father how can we question them. The lady who booked our name told us another two groups r still in waiting. My kids are already tired and hungry. With no other option, decided to leave the place.
Never seen such a worse hospitality in my entire life. Looks like they avoided us as our kids may accomodate two chairs and waste time. Never ever visit this place, if u have kids.

Found it a bit disappointing. I got the prawns masala. The gravy was tasty but the prawns were tiny and didn’t seem very fresh. The food wasn’t that hot when it arrived either.
Avinash Tomer
Ordered Kamatchi chicken and Chicken biryani
Both were pretty average
Overall avg experience
Delivery was prompt though
Quantity/serving size could have been better

Food content less. Taste is less. But the pricetag is alone high. No logic. Went for biriyani and very much disappointed. Starters are better in small shops than here.
DK
What food!

I'll never ever judge food by appearance. The chicken biryani was just rice (not basmati, but Tanjore rice) and chicken but it was so flavorful. Fun fact - biryani comes with a separate serving of rice and rasam.
Mutton Laba is like baida roti but is served with coconut chutney and mutton gravy, and is so much better
Malli chicken is fried chicken where the covering is coriander based and green.
This place exceeded all expectations. My mom and I ended up eating thrice of what we had planned. We even forgot to take pictures.
And finally, the captain Mr Kamaraj, who treated us very well and patiently provided details of the food in front of us.
Rachana Bele
One of the best biryanis in town. Their signature dish prawns kamatchi was amazing. We ordered a chicken biryani that they served with gravy, curd dressed onions, in addition to plain rice and rasam- a new concept for me and I loved it. Prices are delightful.

Visited this place on a tiresome day for lunch. Orders include Chicken Briyani, Prawn Briyani and Fish Platter.
Chicken Briyani was good and chicken piece was cooked well.
Prawn Briyani was too good when compared to the latter. Prawns were soft and not rubbery.
Fish Platter comprises of nethili fry, fish fingers and few other types of fried fish pieces which were served with Mayonnaise.
Ambience was good and this is one of the must try places for Briyani lovers!
Awesome !

When you have visited unknown place for vacation this app helps you . Regarding restaurant it was having good rating I had been to this place worth for the money you spent for delicious food . If you order by Zomato you get same food for affordable price . Explore the town order online you will be satisfied in terms of price and taste . Thank you zomato .

I really liked their prawn fried rice and also their parotta and chicken. Very sweet staff and most things on the menu are available, unlike some restaurants. The manager was very nice to guide us in terms of what to eat basis discussion on likes and dislikes.

Authentic South Indian flavours at a pocket friendly price.

Had the Egg Dosai and Idiyappam with Paya. We were extremely satisfied with the meal.

Best South Indian non veg hotel in pondicherry. Awesome chicken kamatchi, vanjaram and kuli omelettes. Must try rasam after biryani. Only downside is that this restaurant doesn't have fresh juice or soda choices.

Authentic Local Food! People will advise you to go to fancy places if you're a tourist. But if you're looking for local sea food or non-vegetarian, this is the place to go to. Don't expect a great looking facade or even super ambience. Instead, expect a food coma and amazing service. Eat one of their fish thalies on a banana leaf. The Kamatchi fish is highly recommended. And end your meal with their ice paan.

One of the best places for seafood. Highly recommended. Everything we ordered was sooo fresh and well prepared. Glad i visited this place. :)

As I am an eggitarian, wanted to visit this famous non veg restaurant of the town. Had my last lunch here and it was perfect. Just had to wait for long, due to space constraints. A small restaurant. Loved the egg masala and the vegetarian meals which was the way just like it has to be in a non-vegetarian restaurant. Must visit for eggitarians and non vegetarians! 😃

Food - 4.5/5
Service - 4/5
Ambiance(more related to space) - 3/5

This is one of the most hyped up restaurants in Pondicherry that struggles to live up to the hype. The biryanis were nowhere close to what the reviews claim to be. Dont get me wrong, they're not bad. But nothing really great about them either. Pretty ordinary food and above average service. Ambience wise, it falls short too. It's a tiny place with about 10 tables and you would have to share table with other customers during rush hours. You're better off giving this a miss and visiting one of the cafes on the same street.

Located in the white town, it's a pleasant place to have dinner with your loved ones...non veg platter is a must have with biriyanis.. their biriyani is not light, it had a very pungent flavour of garam masala..it's OK to visit once.. service is very good though..very disciplined staff
Atiya Anis
Worth a visit tried prawn biryani and fish fry. Was a very different taste laced with spices. Although fish was fresh i wish they could have worked at making the menu little healthy. Too much oil and spices just take away the taste.

Hotel Sri Kamatchi is one stop for all the non vegetarian cravings you might have in town. Serving a variety of delicacies from the South Indian cuisine, the place gives that nice homely touch to the food.

During my visit to Pondicherry, I tried the place out for dinner where I ordered Mutton Biryani and Chicken Masala with some hot and flaky Malabar Parottas. The biryani was done is an authentic Ambur style having loads of whole spices with flavourful mutton pieces. The Chicken Masala though was my personal favourite as the curry was both full of spice as well as good amount of heat from the chillies. The dish went really well with the hot Parottas and marked the end to a perfect meal.

The service staff too was quite helpful and warm. The kitchen took hardly 10-15 minutes to get the order prepared which was fairly quick. All in all, if you are a fan of flavours from down South, the place has some delectable dishes for you to gorge on!
Foodstination
Landed at this place during our visit to Pondy after a friend's recommendation. This place serves authentic food at a very reasonable price.
What we had:
💢Prawn biryani served along with plain rice and yummy rasam
💢Fish fingers
💢Mutton karandi omelette - loaded with lots of mutton
💢Kari uthapam - with finely mashed mutton kheema over the uthapam. Worth the price

All the dishes were yummy though I didn't like the karandi omelette much.

However the place is quite small and you might need to wait or share a table with other members.

Lenin
This place serves authentic non vegetarian food. We ordered mutton biriyani, egg biriyani, fish meals, nonveg platter and kola urundai. Biriyani was very flavorful and fragrant. Kola urundai was one the best I hv ever had. Almost everything tasted good. Reasonable prices.

The only thing is that it's very crowded and have to wait for more than half an hour on weekends to get a seat.

3.5 stars from my side! I went here for a dinner and found people already waiting outside. The place was full. This restaurant doesn’t have a concept of individual table for people. They have few tables and will give you a space as soon as a cover gets available, so in short you will be sharing your table with someone else (if you aren’t in a big group). The people here are courteous right from the entrance. I sat and checked out the menu. I ordered Prawn masala, rice and a cold drink. The food was in front of me in few minutes.
Prawns were nice and the masala was spicy. I had some and packed rest of it. The service makes this place worth visiting.

If you are searching a place to satisfy your taste buds in puducherry, this is the one. Biriyani lovers - a must visit for you.

We had ordered prawn biriyani, chicken biriyani and it was awesome. Also the staff was cordial.

Taste of food - 4.5/5
Ambience - 4/5
After a long tiring journey entered this place at 2:30 pm for lunch and I was asked to wait for 10 mins.
Waited patiently as I wanted to try there and finally got in. I was asked to share a table with a few strangers. I was reluctant and yet I did share the table and place my order.

Mutton Biriyani, nethili fry, prawn masala, chicken platter, lime juice.

The service was lighting quick. All my orders reached my table within 2 minutes. Looks like they have all the items ready.
Biriyani was made with seeraga samba had enough number of soft mutton pieces.
Prawn masala is must try.
Nethili fry was good.
Chicken platter was average.
Lime juice was good.

Bill amount was 900 which was reasonable. A Good place to try traditional south Indian dishes.
We visited this place for its local delicacies and sea food! We ordered Vanjaram(sear fish) meal ,which is good enough for two people along with accompaniments Nethili(Anchovy) fish fry, mutton roast , mutton kola balls( minced meat ), Vanjaram (sear) fish fry. The ambience is good and so is their service. This place gets crowded real quick and gets awkward if you go as a couple as you are expected to eat along with others in same table. Food is good and on spicier side. Highlight was the Nethili fish fry and their sear fish. The only thing which was rather an embarrassment when you pay the bill is , they directly ask you if you would like to add tip to the bill via card! We definitely tip every place we go if the service is good, but asking the customers for the same is not a good practice!

A place I feel so much in love with that I had to bring back with me all types of biryanis I could find at this restaurant! ♥️😇😘😋 If you find yourself craving for simply cooked but yet super delicious biryani then this is the place for you. They serve chicken, mutton and prawn biryani amongst all other non-veg food items they have on the menu. This place completely eradicates the misconception the world has that a biryani has to be as complex as the hyderabad biryani to be finger licking good! Must try! 😎😍

This is one of those eat all you can kind of places. Very pocket friendly and has some of the best non-veg Indian/south Indian dishes. We had chicken biryani and crab biryani/rice. The food portions are large and fills you easily. The place is pretty crowded especially on weekends. But the wait is worth it.

If you really want to try some local food, then this is the best place to visit. We ordered chicken parotha combo, mutton dosa, and kothu paratha.. all of which did justice to our food cravings.
The food is more on the spicier side, so ensure you order loads of rose milk with your food.
Would highly recommend trying this place only of your spice tolerance is decent.

Ordered mutton biriyani take away, and it came with extra rice and rasam! It was enough for lunch AND dinner. Paisa vasool and good taste too! It's crowded during lunch, you have to wait at least 15 minutes. But worth the wait.

I had lunch with a visiting North Indian friend who had never tasted spicy non-veg south Indian dishes. The menu had so much to choose from and we absolutely loved the food. The service was prompt and courteous. Highly recommend the place.

A very okaish place. Something good something nice is in your mind, then this is not the place. Just a place to kill hunger. We ordered prawns, fish, chicken starters, all were over spiced. The hotel itself is over crowded.

Ambience: 2.5/5
Food: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
I had my lunch there. Since there was crowd, we waited for 15-20 mins to get our table. The hotel is located in peaceful and calm street of white town. The main drawback is with the hotel space. But U will forget all those things, the moment u get ur food served. It’s a right place to taste all varieties of non veg. Mutton Kola balls was so soft and delicious.

a small eat out in white town. ordered chicken biryani and malli chicken. prompt service. biryani was less spicy and felt like home cooked. malli chicken was made with natural herbs and spices. one could sense that by the flavour. veg meals was not good. strongly recommend only non veg dishes in this place. very courteous staff.

Great food , amazing staff and extremely cost effective . Unless you are a choosy fish eater , you should order their meals . Portions are right sized for a single person . Since the place is fast moving , try to reach a bit early as most of the specialty items go off the shelf quickly .

We were searching for a nice authentic restaurant during our business trip to Pondy.. I’m sure we have found the right place.. I was informed that this place is crowdy, however we landed there by 3:30 PM and it was not fully occupied.. nicely served and tastefully devoured... we had meals, biriyani, mutton chukka, biriyani and fish Kamatchi... couldn’t find any flaw.. must visit place if you love authentic dishes over Chinese ..the to bill was Rs.1061/- for four of us ..
My first enquiry once I stepped in Pondicherry is to ask the best place for biryani and many fingers pointed to this restaurant. So I chose this for my lunch though few autowalas said the quality has gone down .
Very compact restaurant which can seat 25-30 members max but no much difference for me as taste comes first for me .
I ordered one mutton biryani and one vanjaram fish fry. The service is prompt but the portion size is very small .
The Mutton biryani is made with Jeeraga samba rice and there were about 4-6 mutton pieces and the taste is just average. Vanjaram fish was cooked perfectly and was yummy. They also served small bowl of steamed rice and lemon rasam which went very well with the fish fry. But I was disappointed with the biryani

Overall just an average experience
We finally got a seat after 20 minutes wait. The mutton biryani was ok, not enough pieces though. The group sitting with us also ordered dry mutton roast. Both their plates had good big pieces whereas we got tiny titbits..taste was ok though. On pointing out, waiter said it's the same, we give 100 grams. They seemed a bit biased against non Tamil speaking crowd. While swiping card, waiter repeatedly asked how I would be paying tip, really awkward. Overall it's a total avoid.

They may not be KFC but their Food is finger licking good . If ur not used to the Chennai spice levels .. u better choose ur dish wisely. The staff is more than helpful .. refilling the sugar pots at your table. It's a must go to if u wanna try a lil Chennai in the heart of Pondicherry.

Touted to sport one of the best biryanis in pondicherry and they don't let you down.

Located in white town, it would be a tough time for the beginners to find this place.
But it is really worth it.

The kadai biryani and the mutton biryani is something you ought to have.
And the rasam they serve is really good.

Price :ok
Ambiance :3.5
Service :3
Food :4

Must try : chicken kamatchi

One of the famous South indian restaurant in Pondy .... But the menu is small compared to the other branches in Pondy .

I had veg meals - including rice, sambar, karakolambu, pot curd, rasam, poriyal, kootu, chilli Gobi and raita. It is unlimited and worth for price.

Prawn kamatchi - prawn is fried with a egg coating and also pan stirred with spicy masala. Though it is good, the egg taste over takes the prawn. And the prawn itself tasted old.

Went here with friends today. Waited 20 mins for seats, since place can seat max 30 people or so and it was full.
We ordered Chicken briyani, egg briyani and Naatu kozhi briyani, with fish 65 and omlets. Briyani has raitha and Mutton gravy. After briyani, we get a bowl of rice with chicken gravy, mutton gravy and rasam as options.
Waiters were very nice.
Total cost came to 800rs for a really delicious and full meal. Loved the experience except for the waiting part .

Sri Kamatchi : Biryanis , signature dishes & more.

Ambience: dim lit place with a South feel . About 6 tables . During peak hrs you need to share tables with other foodies.

Service: you can ask for suggestions incase of doubt. They know their food well. Service is quick.

Food : Wow. Had three meals here , some dishes repeated , some new one's tried.Lunch served on banana leaves and dinner in regular plates.
Fish Kamatchi: signature dish in real sense . Boneless fish , tossed in medium spice with curry leaves & garlic. Repeated in all 3 meals.
Prawn meal : its a wholesome meal - prawn gravy with small & medium sized prawns, vegetable, curd in small earthen pot , egg gravy with one bolied egg, tasty rasam and rice of course. Yumm.
Vanjiram (King fish )meal : awesome taste.
gravy with medium sized fresh King fish , vegetable, curd in small earthen pot , egg gravy with one bolied egg, tasty rasam and rice of course.
Mutton masala : Superb gravy with well cooked pieces of tender mutton.
Idiyappam : rice noodles formed into a round shape.2 pc per serving. Great & light accompaniment with any gravy. Not sure if they serve this in the afternoon. Had it both time for dinner.
Chicken pepper masala : Gravy tasted very similar to the mutton masala gravy.Chicken pieces were very small and didnt have much of meat. Avoid.
Parotta: Kerala / South parotta , soft and crispy , served hot.
Mutton Sukka : Was Ok , little greasy , mutton was cut into small pieces. Average.

Price: Very reasonable.

This can be your option for South cuisine, specially non -veg in Pondicherry.
