Review Hotel Shree Kamatchi Restaurant - Pondicherry

Siri Nagesh
Hotel Kamatchi exceeded my expectations with its delectable offerings. The Mutton Biryani was a burst of traditional spices, while the Kuttu Parota and Egg Kuttu Parota added a flaky twist. The real star, however, was the Country Chicken—succulent and flavorful, making every bite a delight. A must-visit for those craving authentic and mouthwatering dishes.

We tried mutton biriyani, Kamatchi signature chicken biriyani. I won't say they are excellent. But it was good. Also tried sura puttu (subtle in a good way), kadai ( excellent masala), mutton also good in biriyani and side dishes... Prawn masala was moderate one ... Meen Kamatchi is another signature dish... Very satisfied with that one... Previously their Ilaneer Payasam was good... Now a days it's moderate... Still, it's one of the must try restaurants.... Service was good. They were very helpful in choosing items. They have huge car parking area at the back of the restaurant. You won't get some of the dishes at late afternoon... So better visit early..

One of my favourite food spot in Pondicherry... KAMATCHI RESTAURANT.... We ordered Mutton Biryani and Chicken Biryani and jigarthanda.... If u r interested in biryani.. I'd recommend the Mutton Biryani over the Chicken..... it perfectly captures the Tamil biryani flavor. Both were prepared in the classic dum style.. Staffs behaviour was really good... It was really a nice experience.

Location: Located beside the flyover in 100 feet road. Parking: Sufficient 2 and 4 wheeler parking. Securities can guide with the parking. Ambience: Visited around the closing time 3.30pm. Not crowded. Got seats immediately. Seatings are less and they could get packed during peak hours. They have a waiting area as well. Decent Ambience !! Service: Very Good. Gives proper explanation of each item in the menu and provided recommendations as well. Food: Only Briyani and Fish starters were available during closing hours. I tried chicken briyani and Fish Kamatchi. Both of them are good but bit spicy. Fish Kamatchi is comparatively spicier. Briyani is made from seeraga samba rice and Fish Kamatchi comes with boneless small tender pieces of fish covered with masala. Price: Decent price for the quantity offered. Must try place in Pondicherry

One of the best biryanis we had in our entire trip to Chennai and Pondicherry. Mutton biryani and chicken Sukha are a must try.

This is the best nonveg hotel. You will get veriety of non veg food . We tried fish meals and fish curry that was awesome. Though the place is crowded but you will get quick service. Waiting time is less. You may need to stand sometime to get your seat . Service was awesome. Best thing is they have CAR parking that's much needed in pondicherry.

Food is good though but sometimes we need to order two plates due to inadequate. More must try dishes, tastes excellent. Service is good but due to more crowded it is hard that they give attention. Atmosphere is ok but tables are very nearby to others so few persons cannot cross over inside. Overall got a good experience with family visiting. Parking is challenging here for to go in and out of small lane. we parked on main road itself.

Had a great experience at Hotel Sri Kamatchi. The food was quite delicious. More importantly, the service by the staff was outstanding. Ayyal Raj (Captain) and Yogesh treated us extremely well and made our experience memorable. The manager Ganesh was courteous and helpful. Overall, I'm quite impressed by the staff and their excellent services.

My favourite place for meals in Pondy! Quick service, lip smacking food, absolute value for money. The best biriyani as well!

Their Naatu kozhi biryani and netholi fried is the best. We have tried almost all of their outlets. There is something about their rice and curry taste that makes you want more.

Also if you are not familiar eating in south Indian restaurants, remember after the main food you get more rice to have with rasam so keep a little space for that!

I craved for sea food and found this place on Zomato. I ordered Prawns masala with white rice and fried viraal. Having my food on banana leaf itself enlightens my mood. So the Prawns masala had a thick gravy and it was very flavourful. The fried viraal was well cooked and had a crisp coating. The food was filling. Got my food in no time. Service was quick. I had an amazing lunch experience here.

A pleasant family restaurant put up in 2 floors. Biriyani tasted good (chicken biriyani, natukozhi biriyani, prawn Biriyani) The rice tasted same but chicken and prawn were cooked well. Nethelli fry was perfect. Kamatchi chicken was delicious too. The biriyani comes with a bowl of plain rice and rasam. Actually the quantity of Biriyani is less and so the plain rice is served along with rasam and chicken gravy which is the highlight. It was simply superb. Service was quick and good. Costed Rs.1380 for 5 people. Overall a nice experience and will definitely come back. A must try if you visit Pondy!

We had it here while coming back from Paradise beach. While entering Pondicherry, this restaurant is just off the main road, as soon as you come down from a flyover. The hoardings are big enough not to miss. I hope I’m describing the correct location for my current review.

We had skipped breakfast that day so we were damn hungry. We were hunting for a place which would serve us meals. Not even Biryani, we wanted meals. I was okay with veg meals but not the others but to the others respite we got a place which served non veg meals. We were quick to order three meals and a brain fry.

Meals came with two veg side dishes, both were good. A chicken, mutton and fish curry. They all tasted very good too. There wasn’t much masala, there wasn’t any piece but it was flavorful. Brain fry was average for me, the quantity was less and was also spiced up a lot. I’ve had better ones. But in all it was a terrific lunch for our starved stomachs.

One of the most overrated restaurants of Pondicherry..the food is perceivably not so fresh and is not at all worth of what is being charged.

Best South Indian take away restaurant in Pondicherry. The elaipilaichavady branch I am mentioning here is good compared to the white town branch .

I have been there for lunch... We searched for food kind of home made the driver suggested this place soo we tried here... Ambience is okayish only.. but the food was really good... I opted for meals they offering some veg Curry's and fish, chicken, mutton gravies alone without any pcs since we ordered starter's 2plate seer fish fry well marinated masala yummy... But pepper prawn was rubbery... Chicken 65 is fine... Egg briyani also excellent... Must try categories

The place has a separate parking lot on the busy street which is impressive. They have 2 floors dining and both the floors were full. We had to wait for sometime to get the table. The staff was quick in taking orders and bringing it to our table. The food is good and quantity is sufficient which is why the crowd.
The place is not costly keeping in mind the taste and the quantity .
The ambiance is always clean and hygienic

Pathetic restaurant in Pondicherry.Me and my wife went to this place for dinner after seeing the rating in Zomato but it was not all worth 3.7 rating in Zomato.
We ordered a plate of fish fingers in starter which was okay. It had 6 small pieces of fingers served with mayonnaise.
In the main course, we ordered a combo of parotta+ mutton masala. Parotta was okay but the mutton pieces were horrible and the gravy was very spicy. There were around 4 very very small pieces of mutton and each of the pieces were 98% bone and the rest 2% had the meat. I understand that at the rate of 170/- it's not possible to give better pieces of mutton then atleast you should increase the price or serve less number of pieces whichever is possible to serve good food to customers.
We had to order a plate of Chicken 65 which had 6-7 pieces of deep fried chicken which was okay.

Another very interesting thing about their service was that whatever we ordered, it arrived at our table much before the expected time. I seriously don't know how is this possible to prepare the food in such a short time. The only possible reason could be that the food was already prepared and it was only heated(may be in microwave) before it was served. We arrived at this place around 7:30pm and we left around 8pm which is really really fast compared the number of dishes we ordered.
Very good food. Biryani was awesome. We had chicken Biryani.

Also had meals. It comes with 3 types of gravy Chicken, mutton and fish. Fish gravy is too good.

Prawns Kamatchi is also very tasty.

Service is quick and Staff is courteous.

On my 300km drive back to Chennai, I came across this Chettinad Biryani restaurant SRI KAMATCHI.
This restaurant had 100 seats and still we had to wait for 10 minutes before getting a table. We tried MUTTON BIRYANI (₹200) that was more than enough for one person. The mutton pieces were soft and the marination was giving out nice flavours. It was a mildly spiced biryani with yogurt, coconut milk, turmeric powder, fennel seeds and green chillies being the main ingredients. CHICKEN BIRYANI (₹160) had similar flavours. CHICKEN ROAST (₹140) was fried chicken in a super spicy batter.
Overall a good place for a quick biryani lunch. Have you ever tried a Chettinad Biryani, and how was your experience?

#foodie #foodiesofbhubaneswar #foodreview #chettinad #chettinadcuisine #biryani #biryanilove #muttonbiryani #travel

Great food. Went here for lunch as suggested by our hotel staff an ended up going again for lunch the next day. Tried their prawn meals, prawn fry, both types of fish meals an veg meals. Everything was excellent an service is good. Only reason taking away one star is I didn't get to eat their pomfret or seer fish - it was over on both days..
Next trip to pondi this place is 100% on list.

One of the famous restaurants in Pondy especially for their rassam. We had non veg meal with extra omelette . Very tasty food consisted of chicken , mutton, fish curry, rice, raw banana veg preparation and cabbage. Rassam was super delicious

Very neatly maintained and a warm restaurant with a nice ambience, great service and customer friendly staff. The food is really authentic and very tasty, especially considering the rates. Got no complaints with this outlet. The biryani is a must try and also give the non veg kuzhi omlettes a try, they're amazing. All the sea food side dishes are very flavourful and yummy too.

One of best restaurants in Puducherry. The place is maintained cleanly and nice and cozy. Staffs are very friendly and co-operative. The food 🍲 is very delicious with an authentic taste. Price is reasonably okay with good quality food. They do offer different cuisines. I would like to go back this restaurant.

Seeraga Samba Rice is used to prepare Briyani here. The rice is cooked to perfection with aroma of the spices lasting long enough on the tongue.

Mutton is cooked very well and the Mutton gravy served along with the Briyani tastes good as well. The quantity of the rice is just good enough for someone with moderate appetite.

Onion raitha could have been better. Rasam will taste better with bit more Pepper and salt added to it.

We missed to taste Kuzhi Omlet today. Will try this the next time.

I was extremely skeptical about dining at a South Indian restaurant at Pondicherry after my non-so-good biriyani experience at most of the restaurants there. There are so many restaurants that serve amazing French and Italian food but when I look out for some decent biriyani the city just had failed to impress. So when we dropped at Sri Kamatchi for lunch while driving back from Cuddalore, I kept my expectations low.

The place was packed and somehow we managed to grab a table within 15 minutes and the menu really doesn’t have much for vegetarians. We ordered for Nattukozhi Biriyani, Mutton Biriyani, Non-veg meals, Fish 65, Mixed Fried Rice and Chilly Chicken. The seeraga samba rice biriyani that bursts in your mouth with flavors from the spices and the essence of meat was too good. And after a really long time, I was happy to find a place that serves some delicious biriyani. The spice level was just right for my palate. Also, the huge highlight was the rice and rasam that comes with the food; after you finish off your biriyani they serve you a small portion of rice with rasam. I love a restaurant that gives me the feel of home. Both the mutton and the nattukozhi was cooked to perfection.

The sides, fish 65 and chilly chicken gets a thumbs up. And the mixed fried rice was good but this place is all about biriyani for me. The non-veg meals come with rice, poriyal, chicken curry, mutton curry, fish curry, rasam, and curd. The non-veg curries were good too.

The service was quick and in-between all the crowd they were fast, calm and attentive too. The quality and taste of the food get a huge applause from my end. Also, the quantity is good for the price that’s charged. We paid Rs. 886 INR for the meal and that was totally worth the money spend. P.S., four people ate. Overall, a good place that serves delicious food at an affordable price and good biriyani.

Amazing chettinad food. Ordered fish meal, prawn meal and mutton balls. Everything was awesome, on the spicier side. Also, there is a min 30 mins wait, but worth the meal served on banana leaf.

Visited this family dine-in place after a Medical camp during this summer.

Ambiance
Like any other family dine-in place
Quirky noisy fast moving !

Decor part could have been taken care of

Service
Service was quick ! on point
The staffs were very friendly and courteous.

Food
By the name you can say it's restaurant whose menu is restricted to south indian.
So indeed it was !
We ordered a Non veg meals
The rice portion was indeed huge and can easily quench two people's appetite.
They had a fish and a chicken gravy.
The food tasted good and homely.

We also ordered Chicken 65 were small chunks of chicken was crispy fried. It tasted really good along with the meals.

Bottom line - Sit and enjoy the home food on the go ! :)
Was in Puducherry for a Solo Road Trip on 20/11/2016 and had just entered Puducherry when I looked up this Place on Google Maps. Had nice reviews and was close, so I thought I'd check it out.
Has a Place in front where you can park but the parking was nearly full, courtesy the weekend.
Got in to find all tables full to my dismay. Was asked to wait by the guy who was allocating tables. He forgot me and started allocating to people who had come after me when I went reminded him of my existence. The wait was for 10-15 minutes at least. He apologised and immediately got me a table. Ambience was Ok, could have been better.
Ordered Chicken Briyani and Plain Omlet. They kept Raitha and Chicken Kolambu as Side dishes.
The Briyani was Awesome ! Rice, the Chicken -everything was well cooked. They finally served Plain rice with Rasam after I had scavenged on the briyani. After I was done with that, I was super full. Bill came to 200 Rs. Definite Value for Money and really loved the experience.

The place was very crowdy & you have to wait a while to get the table ,food was not that much great ,prawn kamatchi was very oily ,seer fish fry was very dry briyani was ok . non veg meals was good . it is not the same taste which they served 3 years back

Must try non veg meals & karandi omelet

Stopped at Kamatchi on way back to Chennai.. Came in with very hungry children. The servers did an outstanding job with the speed. Food was classic chettinad... chicken Kamatchi, mutton dosai was ok . Rest of dishes were good. Worth the stop.
