Review Punjabi Dhaba - Pondicherry

Trevor Sequeira
I accidently stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring the busy streets of Heritage town. This place ticked off most of my checklist points when it came to food and service. Thers nothing fancy about this restaurant. Its the food that speaks for itself. Would rate it budget friendly. Generous portions of Full Hariyali chicken served. Well cooked meat. Succulent. Do give it a try on your visit to heritage town. Friendly staff. They help you out in choosing the dishes from the menu.

Supremely delicious homely north indian food. We went for lunch just 15mins before their closing time. We were really skeptical about the food after reaching the place, from the outside the dhaba may not look very appealing but the food is definitely worth a visit. Their chicken curry is to die for 😊

Food is delicious 🤤 Service - good Ambience - it's a house converted so not instagrammable Had the best Rotis n Parathas here Always would prefer this place over any restaurant nearby

Nice outdoor / rooftop budget friendly restaurant. Every penny you pay is worth here. You can get good quality and quantity stuff here. A must visit place for non veg lovers.

Authentic Punjabi cuisine! An appetizing vegetarian treat for all the foodies, trying to savour the original Punjabi food which can only be completed with glass of mouth-watering, scrumptious Lassi. And not to forget the amazing rooftop experience. It's not just a hotel to eat, but an experience, a moment of indulgence, a quiet place to spend time with family and yet feel like home. Note: non veg also served here.

The best place to have North indian food in pondicherry. It's authentic Punjabi food with dhaba vibes and rates. The staff is responsive and courteous. The food is amazing. Achari chicken is worth drooling for. Everything on the menu is tasty. They have open air space on the terrace and indoors (ground floor). The ground floor feels a bit stuffy and unpleasant at times. But the moment food is served we tend to forget all that. Parking for bikes is Convenient, but for cars you might have to search for space in the adjacent streets. If eating yummy North indian food is all you want to do, then look no place else. This is the best in town. Oh and dadaji at the billing counter will make you feel homely.

The best place for North Indian food in Pondicherry...and the price is pretty reasonable too...! Ambiance is ordinary...it's just an old house...if that's not your thing...try the roof top...! Service is nothing special...but can't complain...! Just go for the food...!

Don't sit on tarace as there are hell lot of flies and other small flying insects. Instead sit on 1st floor or Ground Floor. Food is awesome specially for northindians. When you get bored eating bread and in cafes, straight go here.
Mrimon Guha
Best Punjabi food I have tasted in Southern India. Their portions per plate is amazing. 5/5 for being affordable. 5/5 for serving delicious food. I'm elated I found this place via internet and will definitely recommend everyone to visit it while at Pondicherry. Please try out their kulchas and tandoori chicken.

The best part of having dinner here at Punjabi dhaba was they serve you fresh food + the quantity is awesome. If you are in pondicherry and looking for Punjabi food you must try it here. Kheer was outstanding

This place looks like a authentic punjabi style. The food also resembles the city of Punjab.

We have ordered biryani, Roti, Parotta, chicken masala, Lassi, chicken 65. The food was good and spicy. Quality was amazing and tasty.

Worth for money. Seems deserves to be there once. Good North Indian menu style restaurant and taste.

I am sorry to inform you that we had great bitter experience by ordering to Pajabi dhaba . He gave us outdated chicken tanduri ,chicken biryani & fried rice with worst of taste. ID 9972. It's my doubt that wether you got from Panjabi dhaba or some where else..
Banu
Best and authentic punjabi food. I loved every single bite of it ..

I would've taken pictures but the food smelled so good, I couldn't control myself, apologies, so this is an almost authentic punjabi dhaba set up near rock beach which lacks fancy cutlery, ambiance and a lot of things, but nothing can beat it in terms of delicious food, amazing lassi and affordable price
Ambiance-3
Quality-9
Quantity-8
Price-10
Pro tip- lassi is fab, butter chicken is love, in general all chicken preparations are awesome, saath m makkhan di rotiya❤️

I went to this place with the thought of having some authentic punjabi khana, but was highly disappointed. The entire restaurant needs cleaning. While you enter this place and if they ask you to go that open terrace, then pls be carefull while you take the stairs. Its highly possible that you might get topple down due to layer of oil on the stairs! Plates, spoons were not cleaned properly. We ordered dal tadka, butter chicken, anda masala, rice and roti. Butter chicken and daal tadka was high disappointment. Daal was not even boiled properly and they used matar daal instead of tur/masoor/moong! To top it, restaurant is costly. Pls avoid!!!

Food was good. BUT ambience is to forget about .we had mix veg and dal with roti and Parantha. For 3 people it costed 300 with raita. Food was fresh and served quickly

Longing for a Good Punjabi dinner, ordered Laccha, Phulka with Butter Chicken Masala. Rotis were really good, soft & fluffy, but Butter Chicken was a total let down. over salty but with well cooked chicken in a basic masala using onion paste, but lagging the sweet punch of tomato and richness/goodness of butter & cream, which has given this famous Punjabi dish, a world class recognition. If not world class, at least make it appealing for our taste buds!! Look forward for a better experience next time

Ordered from where during our last stay in pondicherry. We had a good experience here and everything was served fresh and hot. We will must repeat from here next time as well
This restaurant stands for its name. Authentic Punjabi dishes owned by real punjabi people. Great and tasty food. A bit struggle in tracing the place. But overall it was a nice experience.

My last day in Pondicherry, was craving some North Indian Desi food and this place was nearby and also had decent ratings, thus decided to visit this place which turned out to be a worst decision

As soon as we entered the restaurant, we were asked to take seats on the terrace. This place looks nothing like a restaurant, looks more like a house. Service at this restaurant/dhaba was decent.

Ordered Paneer Tikka, Paneer Butter Masala, Veg Kofta, Tandoori Roti, Tawa Roti and Jeera rice. Paneer Tikka tasted below average. Jeera rice was the best dish of the lot. Rest of the dishes were just bland. Over the years, I've had food which tasted good, I've also had food which tasted bad. But this experience was one of a kind. The food was just bland. It tasted like nothing. Would like to appreciate the chefs for making the food taste like nothing despite adding numerous ingredients. Have literally eaten the roti with the pieces of paneer dipped in the green chutney served along side Paneer Tikka.

It goes down as one of my worst restaurant experiences. I feel bad for the localites who may visit this place in order to taste some North Indian food and may be having a different perception of how North Indian food tastes.

Ambience - 2
Service - 2
Taste - 0
Value for money - 1 (Only for the Jeera rice)
__________________
Overall - 1

Will I be visiting this place again?
Will make sure to never visit again and will also suggest others not to!
25th Dec 18 , 10pm
This was one of eatery which I used to enjoy indulging in, when I was in Puducherry. More than a restaurant this was an off-beat concept of converting an entire flat into a restaurant..!!. So as described , the ambience is not something to look forward...u will find urselves sitting in a living room with small tables overlooking a kitchen...whatever it is..what is unique , gets served in the plate.
So started off with the Lassi..an enormous brass glass filled to the brim with the sweet curd...wow..suddenly i feel like am on a highway in punjab sitting on a charpai and gulping down this treat. Teed off the main course with the all time favourite butter chicken half accompanied by some aloo parantha dipped in desi ghee...phew..one bite into the butter chicken just magically sent me to a day 14 yrs ago...the same taste with lots of tomato flavour and big succulent pieces of chicken...the parathas were heavy too ...thats it am already done.
They have moved over to a new place but the interiors have been "maintained without much maintenance...😁
A french type building is the eateries new address .
If u are in these parts..pl do not miss the "paaji" sitting in the cash cabin and wryly smiling at his customers promising to provide one of the best punjabi food in town
We were Soo hungry....so we planned to have something Desi.....I literally loved the terrace dining......we ordered
1. Tandoori roti(butter).....it was so soft and nice
2.chicken hariyali....it was good......
3.chicken biryani.....the taste was not so gud as compared to south Indian biryani.....it was ok......

I ordered butter chicken with butter naan. And the only thing I liked was the butter naan.
Butter chicken was salty plus it didn't even look like the butter chicken we have had at my home town (Delhi).
2 stars for friendly Sardarji at the counter!

I haven't ever reviewed a restaurant before inspite of using Zomato frequently. This one is going to be my first for all the right reasons! A perfect place to indulge in Punjabi food when you are out and about in Pondicherry. I am coming again tomorrow, see you! Thank you so much for the delicious food!!!

When you talk about North Indian or Punjabi food, this definitely is the place you must visit at Pondicherry. As this place is both cost-friendly and serves huge portion that you would struggle to finish your bowls. The diner is huge and there is plenty of dining space so even with the crowd it wouldn’t be a struggle to find a place on most days. We visited the place during a weekend for lunch and probably I would suggest a dinner plan at this place has they don’t serve any of their tandoor dishes for lunch. With not many starter options to choose from, we settled for Galouti Kebab and for the mains we ordered 3 tawa roti, 1 plain paratha (and these were the only Indian breads that were available), butter chicken masala (half) and sweet lassi.

The galouti kebab wasn’t a favorite, I have definitely had better. They never did look appealing in look nor did they taste amazing. The meat was cooked well and the flavors weren’t bad but somehow it wasn’t a favorite; and I wouldn’t personally recommend their galouti kebab. The coriander chutney that came along was good in taste.

The roti and paratha was a delight. The sweetness of the onion, the buttery gravy and the right amount of spices were bang-on. However, I wish the chicken had absorbed the gravies flavor as it was bland for my palate. However, the chicken was cooked well. The portion was huge and definitely three people could share a bowl of half butter chicken. And finally the lassi was yum but I wish the level of sweetness was less. The huge positives about the place is their quick service, the food variety, the portion size and affordable price. I would say negative but their downside is their quality and taste as they didn’t amaze me but they weren’t bad either. We paid Rs. 547 INR for the above meal and their huge selling point is their affordable price and portion.

I found a partially burnt disposable plastic spoon inside Butter chicken gravy. I order Afghani chicken , butter chicken , Tawa roti and. Lassi. Everything else tasted good except butter chicken, it was loaded with spice's. #Unhygienic #Rooftop

Went 3-4 times.. Had paratha, nan, tandoori & other items..
Veg & non veg both dishes are really good..
Paneer paratha.. Panner bhujia is good..
Aachari chicken & hariyali chicken also good..
Bt I am not satisfied with their veg polau.. Its taste not that much good..
Their lassi also good.. Although I am not big fan of lassi..
Price is reasonable..
Overall taste is good..

Perfect place when on low budget and want to satisfy the crave for North Indian food in puducherry. The chicken dishes are finger licking good and the bhindi masala is up to the mark. Bit disappointed in butter paneer masala, but still chicken is there for saviour. The punjabi guy at the counter was very friendly and service is also good.

Authentic Punjabi food!! Old-style ambience, large parathas, good quantity, good taste.. Would recommend any all North Indian food lovers to this place. It's a small place, but the food is really awesome!
Arunesh
Punjabi Dhaba make me suspicious about them. How can they be so polite and offer great food with greater quantity for such low price?! It's also peaceful there and calm. Great place to go with friends and family if you got less than half the money you spend outside.
Kamal Raj
Food is OK, but the service goes from bad to Rude. Their menu Had only two Mutton dishes and i tried the one fried in tawa. It was horrible. Oily, and the meat tasted as scrap meat.
Probably, it is the best place in Puducherry to have north Indian food. The parathas, Dal Tadka, etc were too good. This was the first time i had enjoyed veg food being in south. The ambience was not good, but if the food is what that matters then it's a place you must try.
Amritha Rajendran Iyer
Had parcelled food from this place.Had the best butter chicken ever. And the quantity is abundant, as the half butter chicken was more than sufficient for two people.
Alpradheep123
I want to try punjabi food so I went her I order butter chicken masala and roti is very very worst butter chicken in the world they have to learn how to cook food and have to open the restaurant very bad experience

This place is as its name suggest is an authentic Punjabi dhaba.
The ambiance and atmosphere all reminds us of a north indian roadside dhabas. The taste is authentic too. If u want authentic Punjabi flavor in south India with the cheap and soulful experience then please visit this place when you are in pondichery. there is a wait for your order because its crowded and if you are visiting at night try to get the roof top seats.
its not much of a looker compared to the rest of pondichery but if you can see beyond the ambiance you will enjoy every bite of it.
Phiba
Punjabi Dhaba serves good food in a lot of quantity and in an unbelievably reasonable price! Their parathas are very nice, the kofta, biryani, curries are really good. I can tell you that their veg and non-veg dishes are equally appetizing! And the owners are friendly and nice.

food was just ok.not that much good as u read read the menu.. hotel name Punjabi bt sry to u inorm u I had. panner butter masala. bt it just half cooked ...panner just floating in the gravi...

If food is all you care about then you must really visit this place. Nothing to expect from ambience the place is pocket friendly and they serve good food out there. Dal Tadka is must try and except of Pudina paratha other parathas were very good. Chapati tastes like home made and other dishes were also good. I had expectations from lassi coz obviously, but it didn’t turn out to be great.

Visited this place with my friend for dinner. We ordered Hariyali paneer tikka,Malai Kofta,Butter naan and jaljeera. We were surprised with the size of paneer cubes,it was quite large but taste was very average. The paneer was not cooked well inside. It was raw inside. The masal taste was only felt on the outer layer. It was bland and plain inside. The butter naan was decent and it was also quite large in size. But the worst was malai kofta.Never tasted a malai kofta that was this bad.It didnt taste like malai kofta .It was like some kind of tomato gravy with a kofta. The kofta was also very bad that we only had one bite. The best thing about this dhaba is their Jaljeera. It was the only thing which tasted good. This place is definitely not recommended.Though the price is on the lower side, the taste and quality of food was substandard and not up to the mark.Maybe the locals of Pudhucherry can try it but a big no for tourists.Overall,a big disappointment.
Service-3/5
Food-2/5
Ambience-2.5/5
Pricing-4/5
Was in the mood to have Indian food. It was the next option to jubilee hotel as they had only rice thalis there. The punjabi dhaba gives you a punjabi ambience. Staffs and owner are good. There indian breads are just soo big and awesome. I had it along with chicken curry which was delicious and chilli chicken which tasted great compared to other restaurants. The price range is good its not expensive at all. You can feel the amazing breeze if you sit out in the balcony.
Akilesh R
Been there three times...

Each time had their lassi and paani poori which is a star attraction.

My vegetarian palette included bhaingan Bhartha, paneer dish and dal fry and tadka with standard butter naan.

Can’t comment on the non vegetarian as I stick to only vegetarian food but received a good review from those who tried.

Roof top ambience is good for those who enjoy fresh air.

The steps are pretty steep and a hassle to climb if you have weak knees... but you can ask for take away if that’s your challenge.
Arun
Best Punjabi dhaba in Pondicherry...
Location is a bit problem, you get lost if you are new ..
Phulka and all subjis are very tasty...
Service is a bit slow . Ambience is good, roof top is best place.
Prashant Jain
Been here while on a trip to Pondicherry and found this place on Zomato. Sorry, was very disappointed with quality and taste of food. Would not recommend.
ROHINI CHAKRABARTI
A hidden gem near to the Max showroom. The rooftop ambience adds to the fact when you are craving for some good North Indian food. Aachari chicken kebab ,jeera rice are comfort foods here. A bit unorganised, but it doesn't matter when the food becomes important after a week of sambar and pongal. Pocket friendly for students.
Shruti
If ua bored vth plain french food in pondy then its the best place to come
Food is really taste in punjab style
Very resonable price
Home feel
Ritwik Patnaik
Best North Indian homemade food had in Puducherry.Very affordable and food bring back to your home memories.Had ordered tawa roti,Friday special chola and sweet lassi.I am satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food.Must visit place in Puducherry for food lovers
Reshma Mariam
The lassi(₹45) is absolute beat thing on the menu at Punjabi Dhaba.

The naan and roti are acceptably good. But the curries are not worth the money.
Smita Patil
When you are bored of eating pizzas and breads during your trip to Pondicherry and if you are looking for simple ghar ka khana in less price this is the place to visit! Please visit with less expectation the taste is not very good. But it can satisfy your urge to eat dal chaval and roti.
Palash Chhaperwal
Ordered half butter chicken, full chilly paneer, dal makhni, veg pulao. Butter chicken and dal makhni was ok, but chilly paneer wasn't. Lassi was good. Tandoori was not available so we ordered tawa roti and paratha. Everything was served in a huge quantity (especially butter chicken).
Romil Patni
Heard a lot about This place. The place was jam packed. The food is ok not that great but probably the best place to eat North Indian food in Pondicherry.
Aswin Sivapragassam
The food tastes good and authentic but that's it. The hygiene or the ambience aren't something to be bragged about. I suggest you to take away rather than eating in, especially if you are a family.
Oh and plenty of the items on the menu are only available for dinner and not for lunch. That was a bit disappointing when we were all settled to order and there was no prior note about it, nor in the menu or on Zomato.
U.K.
Almost un-noticeable .. tucked away in a by-lane on the busy streets of pondy .. lies this gem. The blue and white board alone is an indicator of its presence. If u wanna taste authentic Punjabi lassi .. please do plan a visit to this place .. we had channa masala .. butter paneer and tawa roti (the soft classic type) .. my friend ordered tandoori chicken .. it was then we realised .. most ppl eat artificial orange colour in the name of tandoori chicken .. this one was pale .. no added masala .. my friend enjoyed it to the core ... Will visit again for sure ...
Raj Rathod
One of the best budget friendly Punjabi restaurant in Pondicherry. The place is kind of unusual, they kept tables in balcony of old house and some tables on terrace.

Chiraag Banerjee
Service was horrendous. The waiter was rude and took 1 hr to deliver our order. Food quality was average. Quantity was decent enough for two.
SirajAhamed
Taste is good.. but biryani is not as expected... if you wanna try north food, give it a try... especially dal tadka, dal makkni, panner butter masala was awesome...
Samraggi Das
this is the best punjabi cuisine dhaba you will get in the city.. value for money.. great taste.. rooftop dinning area.. the only thing is i didn't like is the service.. they took forever to serve the food.. but the wait was worthy enough
Taste To Savour
This place you can find some good food with a reasonable pricing but dont expect a perfect ambience here..
Tried paneer butter masala with Masala kulcha and it was worth the bucks I paid.. Though I was utterly disappointed by their Sweet Lassi as it lacked 'Punjabi Feel' and taste..
Harish Goutham
An awesome place where you can get Punjabi food and is pocket friendly.!
I always prefer the roof top.!
Ambience is not that great..
Coming to food starting with panipuri it's jus super awesome.!
Rotis and paranthas are very good.!(pudina parantha is my fav)
Chicken hariyali is my pick In curries..
Don't forget to try jaljeera and kheer..
Now only negative thing is poor service.!
Ankit Soni
The reason I am rating this restaurant a 3.5 star is because this is the only punjabi restaurant in Pondicherry which offers a full course meal for two within 250 rupees!
Yes! It's insanely low priced. However the food is not at all up to the mark, shahi paneer is just okay! Avoid veg. Biryani as it's the worst i ever had!
Malatimadhav
Fantastic food, authentic Punjabi food, quick service. Sardarji is caring and ensures customers are attended. The place looks dingy but, once you have the food in your plate, ambience is forgotten.
Ram
If you can wait then you are in for a treat .... This place is pocket friendly .... Don't go for the roof ,just walk in to the balcony table for nice seats of the house .

Price : OK
Food :good
Ambiance : bad
Rohini Mohan
Average place but the parathas were soft. Good for a quick lunch if your around heritage town. Ambience is not that great but spacious for a group.
Nandan Verma
This place is one of my favorite in Puducherry.. I m just not giving 1 star for the sitting n location.. The food is best if you like n are in search of some spicy Punjabi flavors.. the food tastes good n is served in lesser time.. do taste their lassi..I also love the baigan ka Bharta and chicken dishes.. the dhaba is some 1.5 km from beach n after full stomach you can go to beach .. the food is economical and won't cost you much on ur pocket.. but it's worth every penny you spend..
Rajagopalan V
Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes to get no food and asked to wait for another 20minutes or cancel the order and walk out. Won't recommend at all.
Hemnath Deivamani
Worst Food I ever had.. Quality and taste Not even touched the price limit. This 1.5 rating is also too high for them.My Kind request to every1 Plzz avoid them.
Harsh Punmiya
This is not a fancy place but a family maintained place to eat which isn't heavy on your wallet. Owner is friendly and staff is prompt with their service. If you want a home made food experience then do try this
Garima Rastogi
This place claims to serve authentic punjabi food since last 2 decades. I was craving for stuffed parathas and one of my friends suggested this place. I ordered both tawa and tandoori parathas and they tasted quite well.
Nikhil Anand
This is a small outlet, there is nothing great about ambience but you may find suiting tatse to your buds as finding a proper Punjabi food in Puducherry is itself a big thing.

Over-all the place is cheap and taste is just fine.
Shekhar Patra
The place is on the 1st floor and is quite easy to miss. The best thing about this place is Tandoori chicken and Lassi. The ambience is not good but price is easy on the budget. Mostly North Indian folks will be found and college students. The service is a bit slow but it make up for the great taste.
Zeeshan Syed
Shittiest place ever....apart from the name there is nothing punjabi about this restaurant...freaking dead place...being a north indian working in pondy i felt like opening up a dhaba to show these ppl what punjabi food is all about...dont go waste ur money ppl
Sudip Das
This place is total value for money. We were large group and the quantity they served were enough. The authentic Punjabi lassi and paranthas with north indian curry and chicken are to die for. This little place is one home where you can go when you are tight on budget.
Adithya Padmanabhan
Let's be clear on one thing. Punjabi dhaba is not fine dining. It's the place cash starved students go for a heavy meal. Its the place you can splurge little money for a lot of food.
As a typical cash strapped student tired of horrible hostel mess food, I visited this place, highly recommended by my seniors. The place is a little hard to find, but a little asking around got us there.
There are 2 seating areas, a small indoor room, and one on the terrace, which I've come to prefer(No mosquitos!). The menu is decent, the pricing very considerable. The service varies, because while its usually very fast, there have been a couple of times where we've had to wait long for the food.
The food by itself is not extraordinarily good. But its definitely tasty and most importantly very satisfactory. And quite addictive.
Give this place a try for a cheap, happy, satisfactory meal.
Ayesha
This is supposed to be an in home restaurant ,run by a Punjabi family. It is a non halal place.
We ordered butter chicken and butter paneer, dint seem like how it is supposed to be..as in cooked.
It was masaaledaar and not a smack of cream /butter
I was too disappointed to even click a picture.

The so called butter chicken quantity was HUge.

Costed us around 780 for 2 dishes and 13 rotis.

It's not my kind of a place in terms of taste.:)
Kartikeya
I visited this place last night with my family and friends. Worst experience at any Punjabi restaurant. Suggest not to go there. By the time we reached, we were asked to wait for 45 min. since we were very hungry, we decided to wait. We waited for around 1:20 hrs. And got totally wrong order. We asked the same to owner and he says to eat whatever given, because it's what available or we can leave. Restaurant was dirty, unmanaged, badly behaved.
Anumita
we ordered to go last night and we got the paneer butter masala, chicken curry, lacha parantha, pudina parantha and aloo parantha. The paranthas were palatable but the curries were the worst. Comparable to what a first time cook would make. There was no hint of butter in their paneer butter masala and instead of what should have been a creamy tomato gravy we got a concoction of half cooked ground onion gravy. the chicken gravy was forgivable but had chunks of overcooked chicken that could compete with any brand of your favorite gum for chewiness.I'm not sure what the other reviewers are raving about. If you are looking for an inexpensive meal then this is your place but don't go expecting decent Punjabi food you are better off trying local fare elsewhere.

Summary : This is what your mom would make if she were a terrible cook.
Debashmita Poddar
Getting proper north Indian food in Pondicherry is such a task. Run by a punjabi family, has got a very homely appearance.
You should taste their tandoori chicken. Am in love with it.
Whatever you'll order, they serve in a huge bowl. Basically one full dish would serve up to 5 people. This is true for all the chicken items.
They also have rajma and chole, which are served on Fridays and Sundays only.
If you're in Pondicherry, and want to have North Indian food, try this place. My suggestion would be to go for the tandoori chicken. And aloo paratha. The others dishes I find a bit bland. The prices are dirt cheap though.
Purab Shrivastava
Food is just ok not very good if you r in pondy being north Indian you have no choice but to eat there. Not a good sitting arrangement service also poor .
Nandini S B
Nice place with indoor and outdoor seating.. Have been once with my would be in laws . You get authentic panjabi food. Value for money eat our place.
Kamini Owlak
Had dinner last night here. After long time i got the feel of typical dhabha. Food quality and taste is good. Lassi and lime soda taste was perfect.
Kirubha Rossalliya
A small eat out which does good justice to the name. Perfect for take aways. Still the balcony seating is good. Best punjabi dishes in Pondy. Super cool lassi, melting aloo parathas and the tangy punjabi chicken are the best I had here. Thinking of dhaba food? this is the place.
Must try - lemon soda (it's a wow)
Food- 4.9/5
Ambience - it's a local dhaba what do u expect!
Service - 4/5
Revathi Naicker
I have come to Pondicherry after 5 years and I basically stay in Hyderabad...i have been starving to have some mouth watering Punjab food....i have searched on net and found this dhaba...good thing is that they accept cards and food was tasty and worth...doesnt looks a family place but take away would b better
AnIket Khandelwal
Can't expect much from the ambience. Even the food could have been more better and when asked if they make a curry we ordered spicy they came up with excuses.
Aakash Agiwal
On a 3 day trip to Pondy, Been twice already.
Reason to Go: If your craving for Punjabi food. The quantity and quality win both the heart and taste. Not to Miss : Chicken Saagwala, Chana Masala, Dal Makhani and Lassi/Kheer.
Utsav Nath
Well I haven't been to many North Indian food joints in Pondicherry but this one by far was one of the good North Indian cuisine, value for money restaurant I have ever been. We ordered Jeera Aaloo, Baigan Bharta, Chicken Khadai and chicken curry. Taste of the veg items ki ghar ka. Aaloo Jeera was very good. Chicken in both the dishes was fresh and amazing taste. Pocket friendly and a place to go for good Punjabi food. The Palak paneer and paneer butter masala are a must try with the tandoori breads. If you are looking for some desi food and something to be fulfilling come here. Expect no ambience as such but the owner is a courteous.

Came here with friends having thoughts it would be the usual punjabi dhaba's in south India. But they proved us wrong. Though there is a limited menu, the quality and quantity are way too high. Most friends of mine told "maa ki yaad dila di".. must try.. especially their non veg foods.. lassi could have been bttr. No flaws other than it.

Tried out at Punjabi Dhaba yesterday. Te place is nothing great to write about when it comes to ambiance however the food was good. We ordered for Pani Puri which was good however, the water could have been a little spicy and tangy than sweet. The curry pakoda was not that great. The phulkas and butter naan was good. The butter chicken stole my heart :). For desserts we ordered for rice kheer which was yummy.

On the whole it was a good experience.

Heard about the good food here and came for the first time. And now I have been waiting to get my parcel for nearly n hour. I have lost my interest in the food..Rude behaviour by the Sardarji even on the delay.. After this long he is arrogant enough to ask us to rather cancel the order.. Definitely a no go..

Visited the place recently.
In one word the food is "Pathetic".
Price wise one can find it reasonable but taste wise it is sheer bad.
Our group was hungry and looking for north indian food. But to our bad of luck it was worst of Pudducherry experience. Better you try some other food.
Hope it helps.

Good, moderately priced Punjabi food. You get the feel of dhaba food as its delicious yet spicy. We tried dal makhni, veg curry and butter chicken. All tasted good, chicken was too spicy but I enjoyed that. Indian breads (phulkas) are good. Rice portion is good as well. Try the achari kebab, its awesome. Restaurant is situated on 1st floor, difficult to reach for elderlies as stairs are narrow n steep. Overall nice place for Punjabi food

Edit : Don't pay here by card. Machine is outdated and transactions often fail.

The place has 0 ambience. If you want the ambience, then this is not the place you wanna be. But the taste is very good. Ordered paneer makhanwala and ate 5 rotis. Roti are soft. Ordered tomato soup. Doesn't taste like one.
And coming to the best part.. Lassi.
Wow! Awesome.
Overall, taste is good, but improve on the ambience.

Value for money. Nothing else comes as we start talking about it. Menu is limited but food us of good quality and taste. One should try their sweet lassi and kheer. The curries jus order half for 2 ppl. Punjabi flavour is definitely there.

If u are in Pondi and tired of having pastas, pizzas , burgers, etc etc then u can try this place. U get really good north Indian food.

The place isn't all that classy but u can go to this place for food. Quantity of all the items is pretty good. Paranthas are also good. Tandoori chicken could have been better. But Achari chicken was good.

Do Give it a try if u r in Pondi. 😊

#Punjabi_Dhaba

You have a craving for North Indian food. This is the place you want to go. Serves great roti. Ethnic Punjabi style. Not a great ambience, but you don't see it when you're having the yummy butter chicken.

This walk-up dhaba is located strategically at the intersection of Mari Amman Koil street and Mission Street, near the higher end boutiques and at perfect eye level for hungry pedestrians. For a long time, it was the only such place for a kilometre; now other budget eateries like Chilis and Fish n Pizza have come up nearby. People in search of junk food or Southie-friendly north indian can move along; Punjabi Dhaba only does asli Punjabi khana in true dhaba style- large portions, delicious sabzis achaar and rotis, and NO frills. The longevity of the place(8 yrs or more) located in prime property speaks for itself.

for sure it is indeed extremely unhygienic and i will not go back there
but
it is very reasonably priced and for sure a must for anyone with tight budget

It was awsm food in cheaper price. Everyone should try it. We were there for 2 days and every time we had here only. Price is reasonable. Go for it without second thought

This place has nice North Indian food. The tandoori items are prepared without the addition of any food colouring, which is a pleasant surprise given the trends across the country. Both the tandoori chicken and chicken achari are great starters. The chicken tikka has a smaller portion size compared to the other two. As far as curries are concerned, the chicken curries are slightly inconsistent. The chicken sometimes is a bit chewy, but still the curry is tasty nevertheless. The vegetarian curries are amazing and remind me of home cooked food. The naans, rotis and parathas all are good. Lassi and jaljeera are good accompaniments.
