Review Anjappar Chettinad Restaurant - Pondicherry

Praveen Pious
The quality of the food - especially the seafood delicacies is good. Liked the restaurant apart from the fact that it was too dark indoors. Maybe some of the readers might like it; but I would like to see what I am eating! The food came with copious amounts of artificial colors added to them. The colors stayed on my fingers for at least 24 hours. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is just OK. The bathrooms were somewhat slippery too. I would ask the customers to be very careful while alighting from the bathroom stalls.

Actually it's not anjappar it's been changed into another hotel named as Kongu kitchen we have been wandering for solid 5 to 10 min before we came to know that the name has been changed anyway the food in that hotel was awesome..

It was too spicy, I liked it but my friends were complaining about its spiceness. Please ask for less spicy if you like medium.

One of the worst place to eat in Pondicherry. I regretted going there. Ordered chicken chettinad and there was hardly any chicken pieces in it. Crab lollipops were equally bad. The service was to slow. After I finish my meal when I asked for the bill it took them 15 minutes. Will never go there again.

Been here for many more times. The food will be okayish here. Not a very big fan of their dishes. The staffs must pay attention to the customers and stop flighting within themselves. Anjappar

Favourite South Indian non veg restaurant in Pondicherry...
Tasty and spicy food...
lot of non-veg varieties
not only the usual mutton, chicken, fish, prawns
but also
the exotic rabbit, duck, shark, Turkey and so on.

First thing that we notice is that the place looks shabby. Surprisingly the food is good. But just be careful on ordering Seafood, depends on the catch And availability, your food served fresh or stale πŸ˜•. Chettinadu items are good too. Service is also pretty bad, I had to keep on reminding our waiter to bring the dishes which he grumpily did. So it was a OK experience for me.

Must go for a tamil traditional food, the ambiance is si good, and always crowded, the staffs are well dressed and mannered and price of the menu is ok.

Worst service. Made me wait for an hour for veg food and ended up serving chicken in food. Ordered a meal thereafter and was served sambhar rice after half an hour. Please do not get into this hotel if u r in Pondicherry

Value for money. The food is awesome but only if you can handle spice. The fried fish is to die for. The lighting could be improved and the restaurant needs some sprucing up.

Overall it's one of the good restaurants in Pondicherry.

Confused.. Really confused! I couldn't pick a favourite. All the dishes that we ordered were equally good. The best Chettinad restaurant I have been to. The food is so authentic it reminds you that Pondicherry is not in France.

Specially for their service and rude attitude. Foul smelling restaurant and creepy manager. Manager ended up suggesting what's the best quantity for us to eat. And they cannot Give plates for 3 if you order for 2 people. I have been a regular visitor to anjapper. This is an exception in their chain.

The food was not up to the mark and the service was disappointing. The contents of our order was certainly not what we were expecting. Neither the stuffed kulcha nor the stuffed naan had any stuffing, the turkey roast was only bone and the chicken chettinad was just passable. The drinks that we ordered had to be cancelled as we were finished with our meal and yet they were not served. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.

It was totally worth wasting money eating in this outlet. Not even a single dish tasted good...First time in my life pepper chicken was so sweet and sour...

Ended up in Anjappar as there were no Chettinad restaurant open at 3:30 in the evening. Nattu kozhi biriyani - average. There were enough chicken pieces though and the quantity was good. Prawn biriyani - this is not prawn biriyani, they had used chicken biriyani's rice and had stuffed some prawn vurry into the biriyani. Anyway, the prawn curry was yummy. They had not removed the shell from few prawn pieces which is a big NO for me. Nethili fry - nethili fish fried the chicken 65 way with chicken 65 masala, was tasty enough. Nothing great though. Ont he whole an average experience.

A quick stop for spicy chettinad food to wash out your palate off from the French delicacies for time being. Be ready for the hotness you will be bombarded with, and it's quite famous in Chennai with lots of branches all over Tamil nadu. The Chettinad cuisine has its origin rooted in the Dravidian region.

The outlet here looks a little shaggy and most of the Zomato reviews stated that they went through a lousy service and we were prepared to face it. But to our surprise, we had a quick and prompt service may be because we went there at late hours around 10PM.

We ordered a masala papad, gobi 65 and a chettinad style biriyani. The masala papad itself showed the high spice levels and the gobi 65 was really tasty with crispy outer layer and no artificial colouring. The Biriyani on the contrary was a bit dry and we thought it could be better. It had flavours but mediocre. The over usage of cinnamon, cardamom killed the other spices in the gravy. Anyway, the prices are also not in painful numbers and one can easily complete a meal in 600INR.

That was definitely a refresh for my spice liking palate after 2 days of non-stop delicious french ordeal.

31st lunch that too after a exhausting tour of Pondicherry, reached this place at around 3pm.
Ordered biryani ,to which they replied that they are out of biryani ;-( . They few minutes later saw other people ordering biryani and getting what they wanted.
Service is nice but slow.loved the smile in the waiters face.
The food was so so,but was slow.
Once or twice is ok.

Very impressed with the Quail (Kadala), Vanjaram Fry, Brain Masala and Ceylone Egg Paratha. Better than the Anjappars I have eaten in other cities. Good value for money and predictable quality. Check it out if you are looking for a local Non-Vegetarian meal. You can't go wrong here.

Good food. The quantity of the set meal is large enough to be shared between 2 people. We also ordered the chicken sukka, chicken pepper fry. Both tasted good.

A badly maintained restaurant, there were water droplets dripping in the center of the restaurant and it makes the restaurant messy and Slightly broken chairs. It really gives very bad impression on entering the restaurant. The service was okay. They served the dishes quickly. Our order was chicken biryani, paneer kulcha, parottas, naan and chettinad chicken masala. Biryani tasted good but was over spiced. Kulcha was little harder. Butter naan was good. Chicken masala left tears as it was heavy spiced. Overall over spiced food on unmaintained place.

Very spicy food. Very bad service. We had ordered for prawn biryani, chicken starter, babycorn manchurian paneer kadai, chappati, and salad. Main course was served first after a long wait. Then came the starters. And after reminding for the third time we got salad. Food is too spicy. Price wise ok.

This place is right in the main road πŸ™„ The entrance is pretty confusing 😟 The fam had the lunch here and said they didn't like it 😐 my cousins and I sensed this and thus ordered only milkshakes ! πŸ‘ A milkshake is priced around β‚Ή110 πŸ‘

Chocolate, strawberry and pista ! πŸͺπŸ«πŸ“πŸ“ They were pretty good 😊 The service was real real real slow πŸ˜‘

I have no words. I don't even want to give a single star. This place should get a badge saying 'Worst food in Pondicherry'. If Buzzfeed writes a post about Terrible Restaurants in India, this place would top the list by a long margin.

Most of the items on the menu were unavailable. They managed to mess up our orders and added extra dishes. Staff is super lazy. Food was really oily and the oil seemed stale. I am just hoping I don't get food poisoning.

Anjappar is well known for its chettinad food.. a great place to enjoy good old spicy, flavorful south indian non veg food..
Their service is good and staff is polite and helpful.. we asked for suggestions and weren't disappointed with what was brought to us.. the prices are reasonable.. and they have a good menu.. any hardcore non vegetarian would love this place.. they serve chicken, lamb, mutton, fish, prawns, rabbit.. all in their authentic chettinad spices.. the food is high on flavor and a big bang of spice.. not for people who like bland food..
We ordered fish fingers for the starter, nice with a South Indian twist to it.. good fresh fish.. fried to perfection.. for the main course, we ordered the mutton biryani, pepper chicken and rotis..
the biryani was divine! unlike other normal biryanis, the flavors and spices used made all the difference.. the mutton was succulent and falling of the bone.. it was served with a rassa and raita.. the pepper chicken was exquisite.. yum! like an explosion of flavors in your mouth really tasty.. boneless tender chicken coated in all those extravagant spices.. it goes with anything .. the rotis went well it it and so did the biryani.. great place.. lovely food!

Utter shit! It took them an hour or so to bring us 2 "anjappar special non veg meal", which is suppose to be the most running on the menu. We also ordered for a sweet lime juice that came in warm, half an hour after our meal. No ice is available! I mean it's 32Β°c outside and why wouldn't your customers use a cold drink. Peeps, now y'all make the call if you want to eat at this shitty place.

Tried their NonVeg meal for lunch. It was a little on the spicy side, but considering that it claims to be Chettinad food, that was to be expected. The fried fish and prawns was definitely a bargain!
PRADEEP SINGH RAWAT
Average restaurant. They don't have courtesy to arrange table for customer. Customers themselves have to search for table and occupy it. We ordered fish curry, chetinad fish masala, crab roast, kadai chicken. Gravies hardly had chicken/fish in it. Food was not bad but having small amount of chicken/fish and that too grinded and mixed with egg was unusual and disappointing.
They did not much fish items available.
Crab soup was very good.
OK to visit but no feeling to come again here.

A busy restaurant in a rather busy street where you have the typical Chettinadu cucine.

The seer fish fry was fried to right level with slight tint of tanginess which added to the taste. The Chicken Chettinadu gravy was spicy but very tasty and went well with the rice.

The thali meals was an ordinary affair, nothing to boast about as they were giving more focus on to the side dishes we order.

The fish thali we ordered has some fish gravies with about 9 rupees more than the veg thali, so worth it.

Ambience is good, staffs are polite, and locality is accessible being in a busy street.

Cost: Not very expensive, around 500 for two

The origami here is worth it but the soup is not up to the mark......loved the paratha and chicken masala.....The food is served very fast and good quality and quantity

Wanted to have delicious food, looking for a decent narrowed down to karai chettinad n Anjappar. Both the places are great do try if you visit. Ordered mutton briyani, mushroom chilly, chicken kabab, lemon chicken n ginger chicken... All the dishes were great, portions were good too....

Food gets a bit costly here.but theres no compromise in the variety and its quality.mainly the rabbit and fish varieties are so yummy here.only thing they cud have revamped the interiors.though,if u wanna have food at a typical anjappar resto.then this place wudnt disappoint you!
Anand Shah
If you are looking for variety of cuisines this place is preferable. It is suitable for families and large groups. Go for chettinad food. Rates are pretty reasonable.

We tried North Indian veg main course food 1. Aloo Gobi Masala and 2. Kadai Vegitable. They almost used the same gravy for both the curries. It was spicy and lacking the taste u expect from North Indian food... May be try something else and share ur experience.

We tried all the sea food like prawn fry, masala crab and lamb chop. The food was really nice. Pocket friendly. Seafood price was really less with good quantity. But service was taking a lot of time. It took 20 mins to serve rice when we ordered second time.
