Review Le Suffren Cafe Restaurant - Pondicherry

The whole vibe of this restaurant is top notch. Right from the services and friendliness of the staff, to the mouth-watering food, and the rustic, old atmosphere of the place - everything is just perfect. 1 Rue Suffren, the name is the same as the address - is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Puducherry. And I can fully vouch why. The place is lit up, you take a flight of stairs to arrive at a spacious balcony of an old French building. The balcony, in addition to a few huge rooms, all serve as dining areas. One of them is a bar. Accommodates, I think more than 200-300 people at a time, so even in Christmas we didn't need to wait. Definitely recommended.

This place is good with a huge seating area (both indoor and outdoor) and I loved their ambience and service as well. I must admit that I had the best and creamiest mashed potatoes here. However, the chicken teriyaki (written in menu) we ordered was totally like chicken satay and even then it was not so great. Tasted very bland !!! Their butter herb rice and mashed potatoes are to-die-for!!!! As we ordered mostly continental dishes, the taste was fine but the flavours were mild. But overall experience was good and enjoyable 😊

If you're looking around for continental food based restaurants near Rock Beach, then 1 Rue Suffren is the pick for you. One of the best restaurants in the white town of pondicherry. Taste wise it's just awesome. The restaurant is located on the 1st floor of one of the oldest Heritage buildings (CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE) of Pondicherry which has been shot in many movies.

Good place to have good time with friends. It might get a bit busier in the night and weekends. It might take a while to get the order prepared but its worth the wait. The waitress there was super helpful and advised dishes and mocktails as per our preference. Its close to the beach and I felt its a bit costly. The taste was good but less spicy. Liked the prawns curry. The washrooms are at awkwardly far from the place. The place is buzzing with good music and crowd. Might visit again. They dont have any thai dishes these days.

We had seen this restaurant on the way to Promenade. The exterior is stunning and inviting. On our last night in Pondicherry, we tried this restaurant/bar. We ordered two French dishes (grilled fish and a tiger prawn dish) and two cocktails. I can't say much about the authenticity of the French dishes but it was different and tasted amazing. The cocktails were great too. Service was prompt and friendly. We arrived early at 6.30 pm and managed to get a table but the restaurant is quite big. The decor is amazing with high ceilings and the typical French colony colors of warm orange. The dinner was around 2100 rs. Quantity was just enough for two of us.

Loved the drink named "April Lady" Food was priced well, quantity was sufficient for one person. Also got fries on the side! Vibe is very classic. There is less crowd during daytime and I'm all for it. Music choice was good.

Great place to have great food and have a nice time. Every thing on the menu is great. The pasta, fish fingers, fried chicken all are tasty. It's located in the French colony and is a refurbished old French colonial building, hence has a certain charm to it. Highly recommended.

Its located on the turn near garden and war memorial with ample of parking space. Its on the first floor inside a heritage building and French styled steps and interior. The restaurant is always live and has a wide bar counter. Food is very tasty with good portion size. It is a mere walking distance from the beach and the craft market is close by. Atmosphere is good and spacious with TV always on with a background music. Service is fast but 3/5 as the waiter was in confusion full time even during payments. There is no beach view in this one. Washrooms available but not clean and on ground floor.

Food was excellent and the quantity was also very good. We took enough lunch for 4pf us and bill was around 1500. Highly recommended to others. Both interial as well as exterior design, staff behavior, service were excellent.

Absolutely fantastic experience dining here. Stumbled across in the last few hours of our trip here and wished had found it sooner. Top notch food matched with the grand ambience and incredibly nice service. Delectable dishes and decent portion sizes, much better than relatively priced competitors i had been to in the region.

Lovely place with good vibe at a good location. The food tasted delicious and the service was prompt. A bit overly priced for the portion size but overall must visit if you want good crowd and food.

The place has a ‘French’-inspired architecture and style to it. The food is good and I do recommend trying their Rue Suffren Special Chicken Wings and their cheese and mushroom chicken steak. The waiters and waitresses were pleasant and courteous.

Went for a relaxed dine in at Rue Suffren. Tried broccoli soup, chicken crostini, poulet au fromage and brownie for dessert. Unfortunately creme brulee was not available. We chose the outdoor space which gave out peaceful vibes. The waitress was sweet enough to get us some extra herb rice. Cost came around 1200 for two. Pretty place with good food.

The food was excellent and the quantity was also very good. The panner tikka, cauliflower starter was amazing, as well as the were very very yummy. We tried the mock tails too. For the ambience,the quantity and the taste, we found the price to be worth it. The place is quiet tucked away in the corner and very peaceful.

The place is of special importance because it is able to take in people when all the cafes are all booked out, although there is a significant waiting time. The first time I visited the place, it is as a great experience!! The second not so good. Some of us were served non-veg food instead of veg food. Although the staff gave us discount, but they were very indifferent to the issue that some veg people had eaten non-veg food. P.S.: Don't let that hold you back, coz the food is good

Le Suffren is located at the beginning of Rue Suffren and quite easy to spot. The interior is marvellous—a warm atmosphere, friendly staff, good view, and delicious food.<br/><br/>I particularly want to thank Reena and team for their great hospitality and personally making sure we enjoyed our dining experience. The team was very friendly and they all seem to enjoy working there. <br/><br/>Thanks Reena and Co. I will back to Pondicherry soon and I'll definitely visit Le Suffren again.

Well decorated place.Food was good...We tried le suffren chicken and garlic-shrimp pasta.They served us chilled glasses and room temperature water didn't really understand why,coz the water didn't feel cold at all.

Located to very near beach and near French institute in suffren street ambience was likely loved never tasted their main foods and drinks just visited so would recommend to everyone

Staff was good and polite but service was extremely slow. We spent double the time just waiting for the dishes ordered. Some dishes weren’t even authentic in taste. However, the staff was very courteous and tried their best to meet our demands.

Le Suffren Cafe is positioned in a prime locality, and is named after the street itself. Snug cosily aside Alliance Francais makes it a prime spot for foot traffic to stop by for quick snacks and food to eat.<br/><br/>With an Impeccable Ambience, spruced with wood decor, model ships and barrels. Aimed to give the Cafe a very Colonial feel that truely represents the Spirit of Pondicherry, as well as the Name the Cafe Takes after, i.e Pierre André de Suffren.<br/><br/>Service: Is languid but they will not have you waiting for long, the owners are extremely courteous and sweet, but unfortunately they do not know much about their menu.<br/><br/>Menu: The menu Ranges from Quick Bites to Pastas, milkshakes and Deserts.<br/><br/>We Ordered:<br/>Red Sauce Pasta Non Veg: Perfect soft Pieces of Chicken, with Mixed Vegetables, Chopsuey like Sauce and Pasta<br/>Cons: Onions don't belong in the Pasta. Sauce felt like more Chinese, cornflour based rather than the expected Tomato Based Puree. Carrots and Bell peppers in the pasta had us Confused. Quantity was less and could use some cheese. Pasta was already seasoned, so no question of us seasoning it to our preference.<br/><br/>Though this take was interesting and definitely edible, it was a let down for the price: 250/- INR<br/><br/>Coffee Mojito: was placed under Milkshake. We felt daring and thought it would be some strange milk based mojito. Only to realise it was a simple mojito, with barely any coffee in it. Priced at 130/- INR was a big let down.<br/><br/>French Fries: Not Crispy on the Outside and barely soft on the inside. Another downside was the oiliness of the plate. This could definitely be improved with an extra dipping sauce in terms of Mayo of sorts. INR 80/-<br/><br/>All in all, the place is beautiful and definitely a Must visit. Food on the other hand will have you locking up your wallet.

I'd really love this place very much. Nice ambience. The prices afe are also reasonable. The restaurant set up stand out above all of their ideas. Do once visit this comfy place. My favorite will be the meat balls. Ramalingam Vignesh
