Review Roma's Bistro - Pondicherry

The chef knows how to cook and have funny conversation. All our dishes were amazing (mushroom soup, pizza), but the alio olio pasta took the lime light. 28.12.23

Loved the food! Must try is their pizza which is cut into square shaped small ones and it’s covered with chorizo and cheese! All the food was made by Sid who is a passionate chef from Spain! I was able to realize his passion and love towards cooking and serving! He made my weekend by his yummy food and lovable service! Though expensive and small place to dine in, must try for their customized service and food 🥘

We stopped at this place for lunch on our way to our stay in Auroville. It's right beside the road and parking is available. The food is just ok, the pizza wasn't seasoned to our taste and the lemon soda was warm and watery. The garlic bread however was quite good.

Great food with lot of options. Place is small and simple but that food is great. Service was friendly, helped picking the right choice from the menu.

You must definitely try the Seafood pasta. The best pasta I've ever had. The white sauce is perfectly made and it was filling too. For pizza I had Piccante. That too was good with a solid crust. Loved the food and the service. They had limited options when it came to beverages. I think they should work on that.

We came across this beautiful Italian place which is quaint and offers great variety of Italian cuisine. The food was delicious and the chef made it according to our preferences. We visited there thrice during our stay. The pizza and pasta are really tasty and full of fresh veggies and cheese. My personal favourite was spinach pomodoro with bread which was unique yet the most tastiest Italian dish I’ve ever had. Definitely recommend this place to have the best Italian food near Auroville.

A beautiful experience. Went in there for lunch, had a very calming and cooling outdoor ambience. Location is on the main road to matrimandir and is quickly noticeable. Limited parking facilities in case of four wheelers but the road side area can be used. Menu has plenty of options to choose from. Had pizza and fries. The food was flavourful and delicious. Garlic infused oil was given for additional flavour along with regular pizza sprinkles. The staff were very friendly and polite. Overall service was appreciable.

Pre-booking is required! But the owner allowed us the first time without pre-booking and asked us to call and book next time before visiting. Pizza is amazing 😋 one of the best 🍕 Pizza, I ever had 👌🏼 Garlic bread and potato wedges are also too good.

A place with good vibes. Amazing bruschetta the best i ever had. The toppings on the pizza need to reduce a lil. Was tooo overloaded with extra onions. But everything else was perfect. Hospitality👌🏻 and good coffee.

Heard about this place a lot. Visited with bunch of friends and enjoyed calmness and beauty of the place. Food was organic and with less spices which made that place great. Although tried only one thing (paneer platter) but it was worth its price. Would love to visit again.

A restaurant situated in Auroville. Very quiet and peaceful. The sitting arrangement is in the roofed patio with straight back chairs. Was full so not in the mood of a heavy meal<br/>The Virgin Mojito I ordered was just awesome. I topped it off with a Gelato chocolate-mango combo. Also we packed Lasuni Palak and some rotis for our journey back to Chennai. The vegetable was on the sour side

Craving a simple north Indian home-cooked meal in pondicherry? This is your place. The place is only open for dinner. Makes a perfect setup for lovely conversations.

It’s one of my most favourite places in Pondicherry.!<br/>A quiet place located in the Auroville..<br/>Ambience is pleasant.<br/>Started with a perfect Cream of mushroom soup and Fish tikka.<br/>Had delicious barbecue chicken with fries and Casserole chicken with rice for main course.!<br/>Caramel custard is the best way to end the dinner and this is the best place to have it..<br/>RECOMMENDED.!<br/>P.s Would recommend this place for dinner over lunch.

Prices are high, food is not so good. Service is very very poor. No ambience , no service. Didn't go after my first visit. Food is just ok in the taste.

Went for a day trip to pondy and had lunch here... Very filling and properly priced... Service delays and non acceptance of card payments an issue... Otherwise top class food and wonderful deserts... Try the gelatos.. they are addictive

Went here for dinner ! Ordered chicken curry , pesto pasta chicken and kadai pasta ( only coz it sounded different). Firstly the place has zero ambience. Don't expect a feel or vibe here. 4 of us just sat arnd ordered and while waiting for the order the most horrible thing happens. A lizard falls from the hay and tile room right on my friend. I do know it's a natural thing and it's beyond the control of the café management but it was horrific. Coming to the food, apart from the chicken curry nothing was edible. The pastas were flavourless and dry according to me. The caramel custard tasted ok, but had an egg smell .I would not recommend this place to people looking to enjoy a yummy meal with a great ambience!

Finally down on our list - Had to wait for an hour for the place to open up in the evening.<br/>Located in a quiet and serene area, reaching the place might give you goosebumps if you go after dark.<br/>The ambience was nice and the service was good.<br/>We chose to go completely Indian at this place and ordered for masala papad (Good), Paneer butter masala (right amount of butter and tang), dal makhani (had the cream but wasn't too oily & heavy) and garlic roti. The portions were good in size and the aforementioned food served two people. The rotis, especially, are really huge in size so order carefully.<br/>Overall, the taste of the food was good - gave a homely feel - but most importantly, it was not too oily or spicy and was suited for European tastes. So if you like spicy food, like me, please ensure that you ask for a green chilli by the side :)

This place requires some following of hte directions to the cue as its tucked inside the bylane on the main road of Auroville. Have been hearing rave reviews about the place and decided to land here for dinner on my Pondi trip.<br/>This used to be the place where Mrs. Roma cooked herself all the stuff and had some brilliant Parasi cuisines, the lady herself served Dalai Lama (twice). The place now is humble, neatly lit up and still maintains the homely feel.<br/>Plenty of space in the most quiet places that you find around town that serves full meals in the italian, continental and spanish cuisines.<br/><br/>Taste - 3.5/5<br/>Ambiance - 3.5/5<br/>Service - 3.5/5<br/>Value for Money - 3.5/5<br/><br/>Overall - 3.5/5

We had just entered auroville and our local friend had suggested we go to this place. It has relaxed atmosphere with outdoor seating. The menu offers north indian and continental food. We ordered veg pulao, paneer kadai, mix sauce pasta, white sauce pasta mushroom, and white sauce pasta with spinach. All were good except the white sauce pasta with spinach as it was not cooked properly. Rates are average but service a little slow. Worth a visit for the atmosphere.

Stumbled on this remotely located restaurant. Serves decent north indian food. Really lovely ambience with the lighting and everything. The food is alright, but a recommended spor for a lovely date

Randomly reached this place only to realise what a lovely location and place this is! We were pretty late for lunch, it was 2pm and ours was the last order to be taken. Food at romas is very fresh and light, though most of their menu is North Indian fare what you would actually get is a very continental Indian food. We ordered kadai paneer, dal makhni an assortment of breads and just to try a penne arrabita. The pasta was very average I can't give it any marks even if it was meant to be this way to avoid cheese or any other unhealthy ingredient. The paneer was nice very mild masala so was the dal. A great place to have a quiet light lunch. Amazing ambience, it's an outdoor seating with greenery all around you.

Good food.not too pricey.costs less than 1000inr for meal for two(without drinks).do ask for their special dish of the day.prawn curry was the best i have had in a while.caters mostly to taste of people who come from other countries .do remember to ask them for a normal or more spicy version of the indian dishes according to your preference.<br/>The ambience is pretty and tranquill.especially in dec -jan.it can get hot in summer as it has shaded outdoor sitting with ceiling fans only.<br/>

We'd heard great things about this place, and one fine afternoon, landed up there to see for ourselves. It's situated on a dirt road in the middle of a forest, just a little off the main road leading from Pondicherry to the quaint little settlement of Auroville. Plenty of parking and open space, and situated in the middle of lush greenery, it was really picturesque. The place was full of people and decorated beautifully. There was a large seating space, both covered by a roof and in the open garden, and the kitchen was huge.<br/><br/>Our order included :<br/><br/>Buttermilk<br/>Lassi<br/>Spicy Herbed Potato Wedges <br/>Masala Papad Cone<br/>Chicken Tikka Masala<br/>Garlic Naan<br/><br/>The buttermilk was thick and delicious, peppered with mint leaves and had an aftertaste of ginger. So was the lassi, which was thick and sweet, with a refreshing taste. Both were perfect for a sweltering hot afternoon. The potato wedges were not at all oily and cooked to perfection. The green chutney accompanying them complemented them well. The Masala Papad Cone provided a different texture to the meal. <br/><br/>The main course was among the most delicious I'd had in a long time. The chicken was succulent, and seasoned very well. The naan was soft, and the flavor of garlic was just the right amount. <br/><br/>All in all, we had a wonderful meal, and I'd definitely like to go eat there again.

Lovely food. We ordered chicken tikka masala, grilled fish and roast prawns. Everything was perfect. <br/>Prawns came with grilled veg which was out of the world. I am surely going there again.

Don't know about offbeat recipe but normal north Indian food sucks to be honest. Don't expect much, you can enjoy starters here they are really good. So if u want some starter and seafood I will really recommend it.<br/>

Awesome home like food amidst the beautiful lush greenery!! Went here for lunch after a friends recommendation.. And the first thought was, ' how did I miss it for so long!! ' the location of the place is amazing, can easily reach following Google maps.. Ample parking space, cozy and simple seating are, down to earth staff.. We ordered a vegetable minestrone soup, chicken tikka masala, lasooni palak, methi roti, tandoori roti and vegetable raita... All the dishes were up to the mark and gave a feel of beautiful home cooked food.. The best thing the food was low on oil as well as salt.. Didn't have that heavy feeling after you eat at most of the restaurants.. I think this place is gonna be my very frequently visited place in near future!!

We visited here just after reading reviews and entered with some hesitation as it was little outskirts of highway. However after entering here we found that it has good village ambience and it was very pleasant environment in 32 degrees of Pondicherry afternoon.<br/><br/>The food was simply awesome. We ordered chicken masala, crab curry, Roti's and pasta. You must try crab curry. They serve soft tandoori Roti's and naan too. However pasta was not upto the mark.<br/><br/>Overall we satisfied with taste and service. Must try place.<br/><br/>Cost: Around 1400 for 5 people

Wherever you go in the world, after a point you're definitely going to be all 'Ghar ka Khaana do' and that is exactly what this place is! <br/>Great. Indian. Food. <br/>This is the best way to describe Roma's Kitchen.<br/>And the place is huge! And what is even bigger than the seating area is their kitchen. Everyone needs a little luxury no?<br/>Its so nicely done up with lamps and fairy lights, that makes it so pretty to look at, especially at night! Even during the day, I'm sure it was all beautiful and peaceful with abundance of green!<br/><br/>They have an amazing variety of North Indian food that is both vegetarian as well as non - vegetarian! If you're a lover of Indian food, then this is the place to be.<br/><br/>The food we had here was:<br/>Spicy Herbed Potato Wedges <br/>Masala Papad Cones <br/><br/>Butter Naan (2)<br/>Cheese Garlic Naan<br/>Garlic Naan<br/>Prawn Curry<br/>Paneer Butter Masala<br/>Vegetable Handi<br/>Jeera Rice<br/>Roasted Papad<br/><br/>Lemon Iced Tea<br/>Lemon Soda<br/>Pineapple Juice <br/>Watermelon Juice <br/><br/>Absolute love in every delicious bite! Total tummy satisfaction.<br/><br/>Food - 4/5<br/>Ambiance - 4.5/5<br/>Service - 4/5<br/><br/>Overall - 4/5

Nice and cozy set up amidst trees. The garden sit out is really nice. <br/>The Indian cuisine is good, for a change, in this part of the country. The pastas are decent too. They could have had a more exciting menu, given the setup. <br/>Hope they work on it!!

Good place with an open sitting area. Chicken casserole and barbeque chicken wing were great in taste. Mushrooms and butter chicken were also decent. Chocolate moose and caramel custard are a must try. Liked the ambience and overall service of the place.

Situated in a mysterious nook of Auroville , finding this place can be a task! Pretty open garden away from the traffic n noises .. We enjoyed some Soft, fresh , piping hot garlic butter nan and simple tasty tangy prawn curry , which is not too overly priced ! The tiramisu was not upto the mark though :/They do have bbqs on the dinner menu ! And in my opinion the ambience at night should be interesting .

A nice place for the weekend lunch! There is nothing very impressive about the place but also nothing to be disappointing. The ambiance and the way they have utilized the space earns them the brownie points. The menu is limited. Paneer chettinad we ordered didn't look or taste like the chettinad recipe. So , better to avoid! We loved french fries, it had some unique flavor. <br/>A decent and peaceful place to visit if you are in Auroville!

One needs to go to Roma's kitchen after getting bored from South Indian and non-Indian cuisines because this restaurants nails it when it comes to North Indian food that too non-veg. We tried their chicken chettinad which was good. Dal Makhani could have been better. The best part of the meal was lassi which came in a big glass. The portions were generous and the price range is light on the pocket.

I've been to Roma's Kitchen twice so far. Based on the first experience alone, I would have rated them a 4 or 4.5.<br/>Even though I ate heartily on both visits, their service was a disappointment for certain reasons. Over the course of the meal, we ordered the following items. A mutter paneer, bhindi masala, paneer chettinad, raita, dal makhni, 6 butter naans 2 butter rotis and 1 caramel custard.<br/>First of, the bhindi in the bhindi masala was undercooked. Quite noticeable and yet somehow, they missed that when they decided to serve it. <br/>The 6 butter naans were ordered 3 at a time. In the second round of the naans we noticed that the size of the naans had diminished to quite an extent. For those of you who aren't familiar with naans, they are big, so they are cut into 2 halves when served. <br/>What they served at the restaurant, it seemed like the halves were being cut into halves. So by having 4 pieces, one would fundamentally be having just 1 naan. <br/>The caramel custard, to top it off, was atrocious. Not exaggerating. In appearance, it seemed fine. But it smelt of eggs and tasted funny. <br/>When I asked the waiter to call someone who could answer for it, he promptly said that they wouldn't be including it in the bill and walked away. The plate of custard was just sitting on our table.<br/>The things I'm not complaining about, are the things I FEASTED on.

After getting too many recommendation for this place finally we went here for a Sunday lunch! And it was a best decision we took!<br/>Lipsmaking food this place had! Roti sabji dal rice and a dessert we had! Great taste which I still can't forget!! The place serves live barbeque at night so enjoy your evening with a zeal.<br/>Don't miss on this place if you are in Pondicherry or auroville!!!

A very nice and calm place, off the busy city streets. The food over here, is made for the soul. The kitchen casseroles is best. I feel it's the best dish in the menu. I tried the chicken chattinad, which was very good, the curry had a good texture, aroma and flavour. Later tried the chicken tikka masala & fish tikka masala. Which was good buy I personally felt it was a little bit more on the tangy side. But it's chennai. Over all a must visit place. And don't forget to reserve a table. I don't think there is any place for walk in guest. The service is a bit sloppy but the food is a 5 star rating & will cover every thing up in the end. The chefs name is Mutthu. Cheers Chef... thanks for the wonderful food.
I Love Sandwiches!!!
Little off the beaten track is this little restuarent. The menu is a bit cliched and the food while above par does not leave a leave a lasting impression or make you want to come back again. What you get is a place where you can sit, relax, catch up on your favorite book while having something to munch

Roma's bistro has this little corner in it called the 'Gelato factory'<br/>Some exquisite icecream flavours including Chantilly and lemon were a part of the menu.<br/>I had the warm croissants with Chantilly and tiramisu and it was delectable!<br/>A very average decor with four rather uncomfortable seating areas though, so I wouldn't recommend this place if you want to sit on a comfortable couch and enjoy your icecream.

Went to this amazing  place on a saturday afternoon for lunch, we were four of us. It is a must visit place for all the PASTA lovers. Had a gr8 time dining here.

There's a major gap when it comes communicating your order. We ordered something and ended up with something. However ordered a croissant with gelato ice cream - vanilla. Its an absolute unususla combination nevertheless heavenly. The place isnt anything too comfortable or beautiful, but just okay!

The route to this place might be a little tricky but there's definitely no disappointment when you reach there! :)<br/>The ambience is quite lovely. Thr menu isn't very elaborate but evry dish is cooked with patience and passion. The prawn barbeques are amazing and the cheese naan is surely a must try.. It simply melts in your mouth! <br/>My rating 4 star! :)

This is a really great restaurant to have dinner. They have a lovely ambiance with lights put all around which reminds you of Diwali. Moreover, they have an open in-garden barbecue and the chef cooks in front of you. The barbecue is actually very nice to have. I had beef steak and another day I had tandoori chicken. Both the things had been done very nicely.Cheese naans are a must have at this place if you are having that kind of food.
