Review George Restaurant - Pune

Great experience. The staff was very friendly! Loved the biryani, mutton chops and Bhuna mutton gosht. Must try dishes 💯

I had heard so much about George Restaurant, so I decided to pay a visit. I ordered their chicken biryani, and I must say, it lived up to all my expectations. The chicken was cooked to perfection. I also tried their lime soda, which was not good. However, my experience took a downturn when my two vegetarian friends ordered Kadahi Paneer. Unfortunately, it didn't meet the mark and was rather disappointing. In summary, George Restaurant is a haven for non-vegetarians, particularly for biryani enthusiasts. But for vegetarians, the options might not be as satisfying, so it's a mixed bag depending on your dietary preferences.

Almost a century old restaurant it ensures to carry on a legacy with good food, fast service and decent ambience. The pricing is on the reasonable side & i recommend visiting on weekdays to avoid crowds which is normally high on weekends.

It is time to review the legendary George Restaurant.. It is the culture of old era .. From 1970.. It is best known for its non veg dishes. Ambiance : it is clean and hygienic.. However has its old charm intact till today.. I love the simplicity of table arrangements.. It is well utilized.. It is in the heart of the camp area.. So be ready for traffic hustle.. Service : super quick service very well managed by all staff. Staff was polite and humble.. All are very well know their menu.. So might be having some waiting on rush hours.. Food : All knows that geoge restaurant.. Is famous for their non veg cousin.. It is having taste from 1970 or even before.. I have tried their chicken biryani.. (Super soft and tender chicken.. ) just melts in mouth.. Biryani is on bit dryer side , I would love to have bit more masala to manage the rice.. But that is what people love they are serving from years and years.. Paneer tikka masala was spot on love it.. Paneer was soft masala was good 👍 Roti is again very big in size compared to any other restaurant... Overall it cult following... It is just take you in to different era of non veg cousin.. Overall give a try for the culture and flavours of 90'.. Follow me on google, for unbiased reviews and photo and video...

Situated at MG Road, the most happening place of Pune this is a wonderful family restaurant. The old building has been nicely decorated to keep up with changing times. Food is great, service is sincere, the environment warm and friendly. Highly recommended for dining out with family and friends.

Mutton Chops was just amazing!! Definitely try it. Had also ordered mutton biryani which wasn’t as good as expected. The mutton pieces in the Biryani had too much bones. Maybe I was unfortunate. Taste was it was good not excellent as I had expected. I would have given this restaurant a 5 star if the look of desert was perfect though the taste was usual. Would definitely visit again to try the mutton chops.

This is a very famous restaurant service people for more than a decade. They have a speciality in non veg food options. Most of the times it is crowded and you might have to wait here for a few minutes. But the space is huge so you'll get your seat. There is an AC seating option available as well. Now about the food. Let me tell you my experience with the vegetarian food. Avoid going here if you are a pure vegetarian and can't stand non veg. Also the veg food options were less than average in taste. We tried Hara bhara kabab and they were extremely disappointing. Then we got Paneer Butter Masala with butter roti. The paneer was average. You can way more better options than that. Now about the non veg food. In starter we tried Chicken Reshmi Kabab, mutton seekh kabab and mutton fried chops. All of it was delicious. For the main course we tried Chicken Dum biryani and Chicken tikka biryani. The dum biryani was better than the tikka biryani. For desert we tried the caramel custard and we didn't like it. It was very bland. The flavours were very very subtle and bland. Their prices are also on higher side for everything. So overall it's a good place to enjoy non vegetarian food options. There is a washroom present here.

Fav place of punekars. 1936 Restuarant still rocking in the city with its delicacies.. Major hits are Chicken Rotisserie, Kababs, Caramel Pudding, Tandoori Pomfret and Mutton Chap Kababs.

Nice place for a meal with family and friends, or even alone. The food is great! Service is generally good, though it may falter on very busy days -- days when you have to wait outside for 5 - 6 minutes for a seat. Staff and manager are very courteous and helpful. Location is very good, though finding a parking spot is always a challenge in this area at any time of day or night and for any type of vehicle.

Biryani? Here’s your place George Restaurant- very authentic and famous for its chicken and mutton Biryani! Whole lot of rush for Dinner and they even got varieties of deserts. Many side dishes with even vegetarian options for courses A must try in Pune!!!
Pradnya Gosavi
Nostalgic experience, we had fried mutton chops and Mutton Biryani. Mutton was tender and tastey. Biryani is must have with classic parsi masala.
Vinod Venugopal
A restaurant owned by the Venkey’s group. Good selection of non vegetarian food, bun maska, tea/coffee, desserts etc. Reasonable prices and good service.
Keyur Rege
One of the old restaurants in town particularly in the camp area. Well known for it's chicken biryani. They also serve other indian menu options too. The quantity is little less than average but the quality is really good. They also have hot and cold beverages options to chose from They also offer take-outs. Good place for quick meals.

I had really high expectations from such a hyped place. The food did not match the expectations at all. The butter nan was stale and rubbery and the chicken mughlai was tasteless without a single flavour.

Last time I ordered chicken bhuna it was amazing so I ordered it again. The second time it turned out to be so bad that I will never order it again.

We ordered Butter Chicken, Handi Chicken and Butter Naan from this restaurant on the basis of the ratings on Zomato and hearing the history of this restaurant.
But to our utter dismay, the Butter Chicken and Handi Chicken were hopelessly tasteless and oily. The butter chicken was filled with oil and neither looked nor tasted like Butter chicken as one can see in the pic above.
The only saving grace was the Naan which were quite large and ok.
Please improve your quality.

This restaurant is so famous for its name since ages i would say. We never regret to travel 30 kms to just grab some awsomeness

Must try:
1. Mutton pulao
2. George Supreme
3. Chicken biryani
4. Mutton chops

If you are a tandoori and butter chicken and biryani lover and haven't been to George, you have definitely missed the best in the city. Old is gold!

Ambiance is good and it gives cozy vibes best for families.Speciality of this place is surely the nonveg food.Food is served with proper hygiene. It's too crowded on weekends space isn't sufficient. If you are in Pune camp area one must visit this place surely it won't disappoint you. My favourite dishes are chicken tandoori, chicken lollypop(because I'm big fan of their starters), I always prefer to order chicken kolhapuri and chicken tikka masala as I'm not big fan of their other garvy but surely you can give a try.
TIP: Fresh lime soda is iceing on cake with starters.
.
.
.
.
.
Overall experience was good give it try.
Parth Aolaskar
One of a gem restaurant in Camp, Pune. Looks just like a fine Parsi Cafe/Restaurant.

Food- My favourite is the mutton chops and dalcha.

Ambience- Not very big, this restaurant is jam packed on weekends. Subtle interior and nothing too fancy. Tables are too close to each other hence don’t come here for private dining experience, just come for the love of food.

Service- Medium fast and nothing to complain.

Overall a good experience.

This is a take away review. I’ve heard about this place from a cousin and tried it today. Since I didn’t have the patience and time for dine decided on take away. Here’s what I ordered :-Chicken biryani:- somewhat similar to the hyderabadi Dum Biryani from bawarchi/ paradise; didnt like the taste but the chicken was well cooked melt in the mouth pieces.Chicken tikka masala:- Too much of sesame oil I presume; high average; boneless chicken chunks were well cooked.Overall I didn’t find the food as appealing as I was led to believe; however a second visit is in the offing.

George is one of the legendary restaurant in pune, serving from long time
Had ordered there signature dish the chicken rotisserie and had prawns biryani
Chicken rotisserie is quoted with flavourfull masala right on every bite, from the look of it you will feel that its a regular tandoori chicken, but taste wise its not.chicken was well marinated perfect taste and juicy.
Prawns biryani on the other hand was yummy, prawns was perfect watery and tender
Staff is well aware and ambiance is simple.
Surely a must visit place if you plan to eat around MG road.

We are regular customers of George Restaurant from last 4 years. However, these days the Chicken Biryani quality has gone down drastically. There is no proper mixture of rice and biryani masala in it. The quality of Tandoori is still good but they need to work on the biryani for which George is very famous.
Sanha Godayal
Firstly the waiter didn't serve the biryani properly, he served the dry rice to me and all the biryani masala and chicken pieces to my friend's plate and we had do literally had to give each other rice from our plate then the biryani which was more of a pulao. The rice was so over cooked. Mashed rice! The quality was bad and the quantity was less compared to other places. Wastage of 350rs. could have gone to some cheaper place and eaten actual biryani.

One of the Best place to have food in pune !

The classic classic George Restaurant! Such a historic landmark and place that has stood the times of trendy, funky, outlets opening all around it...but it still stays our favourite for the reason that the quality and flavour has not reduced over the years.

Service is super quick, so you must also order super quick ;) This place is always busy and I'm glad they don't have hours for dining. I remember once we were craving a good biryani and visited late afternoon off peak hours. We still got seated and were served by courteous staff.

Here are some of the items we recommend:
• Butter Chicken - Boneless for the lazy ones ;) By far one of the best butter chickens in MG/ East street. So so good and goes really well with naan.
• Masala Papad - How can you not start the meal with this!
•Kebabs - Chicken Banjara, Chicken Tikka, Chicken Pahadi - all good choices for kebab lovers
•Murg Mussalam - Very thick, rich chicken gravy loaded with that good spice flavour.
•MUTTON/ CHICKEN biryani - You can't visit George and not have a biryani! Classic flavours - perfect ratio of the masala rice, chicken and white basmati rice.
• Caramel custard + Fruit salad with ice cream - End your meal with this and thank us later for reviving your childhood memories :')

Some of the best Mutton I've ever eaten. Very juicy ,tender and tasty.
Try Mutton bhuna , Kolhapuri or frankly anything on the menu.
One of the top restaurants for nonveg lovers in Pune..

One of the best Tandoori and chicken biryani in Pune...I just loved it...mouth watering...pure Mughlai food...not at all spicy good amount of Chicken Non oily Prompt service...cleanliness Hygiene...and food OMG I m in love with it ❤

Also the biryani isn't as good as hyped to be.
The service was not up to the mark as well as the restaurant isn't morally right. The waiters denied entry to a swiggy personnel to use the washroom who was picking up the restaurant's order.

I have never had better tandoori chicken than this one Ever! Just tooooooo delicious.. 🙌🏻
It was very well cooked, tender n juicy just in perfect amount. It had this yummy buttery taste to it. They don't call this restaurant Authentic just for any reason!
Looking forward to go back again soon. 😍

So, went to this restaurant with high hopes and an empty stomach in the afternoon. Firstly, had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table. We finally got one. Right next to the lavatory door. It was extremely disturbing as people kept going in and out, nudging my chair. We saw an empty table and asked the waiter if we could be shifted there. He just looked at me and walked away, then I saw why. They were dumping all the dirty dishes at that table. Ordered 2 dishes, biryani and a side dish. Both didn't live up to the hype. Also, the place is costly as ever..

This is very old restaurant in the town which service non veg food , good food , worth to try .crowd is not what you may be expecting at good place .

Me and my friends visited this famous place and got massively surprised. Heres how: food is ‘home’ here. Pure seduction to your tastebuds . Amazing and how! WOW! Anyway staff is efficient and polite and very fast serviced as well. Prices are on the higher side as compared to the quantity. One biriyani for one person kinda situation. Overall i would definitely recommend this place to all. Enjoy.

Went to this place with high hopes, maybe that's the reason why came out disappointed. Food taste was poor and not living up to the hype. I wonder how they are rated 4? Maybe paid hefty to Zomato to stay in this bracket. All the reviews I see are negative. I will stick to the food only. Ordered chicken hot and sour soup and chicken pahadi kebab. Soup was tasting like a tomato soup with chikcen croutons. Pahadi kebab on the other hand had reddish spots on it like a raw chicken. I lost appetite after looking at it. Presentation sucked big time. Taste was also very poor.
Food card:
Taste: 3/10
Ambience: 7/10
Service : 7/10
Value for money: 3/10

Went to have dinner on 31st December. As usual George was crowded but we got a table and ordered sweet sour chicken soup and banjara kebabs. The soup served was cold and not sweet and sour at all and filled with chunks of chicken. Horrible tasting. The banjara kebabs were not fresh they would have been prepared in the morning and were dry. They were served as strips of chicken with a little coating of chilly powder and the end of the strips of the chicken were burnt when they were reheated. The salad served along with the kebabs was limp and watery. What a dreadful experience. I missed taking a pic of the chicken chunks. Have eaten here before so am aware of quality.

George is one of the oldest and the best. The George team has maintained their food quality consistently. Though they are not gung ho on ambiance; their focus on quality food and customer service is praise worthy.

The chicken lolly pop and the chiken biryanis are the best. The chicken pieces are soft and tender enough and it just melts in the mouth. Moreover the Biryani rice is yummy. The food is not greasy and you can easily wash them down your throat with a cool sweet lime soda.

I have been to George on numerous occasions and I have never been disappointed. Though the waiting time is sometimes high; however luckily yesterday we could get our 6 seats within 15 mins wait time.

George has been around since before India got Independence. That not only makes this place iconic but also makes this place historic. Lot of changes have taken place in mg road but George has been standing there without flinching a bit. Had been craving for mutton biryani for quite some time. Somehow plans to that side were not materialising so finally ordered from there. The packaging is spill proof. I received the packets piping hot. The chicken clear soup was actually a heartwarming chicken broth. Each spoonful was a heavenly delight. The mutton biryani was wow with the perfect long grain rice. It was just the right amount of spicy. There were 7-8 pieces of mutton. 1 portion can easily be shared between two people. The mutton was slightly stringy. With the biryani you also get raita, lemon wedges and onion slices which is quite rare ever since onion prices have increased. Overall a gud experience.
Anuja Lakade
I ordered chicken biryani and tandoori chicken. Biryani is very tasty and masala is too spicy and not too sweet...it is just perfect. Chicken tandoori is also nice..you must try paneer and naan

Once loved butter chicken over here,
but my experience today was not at all good
There was taste of jaggery in butter chicken and it tasted weird. Earlier when I had the same dish it never tasted like that.
When we told the same to waiter as well as incharge over there, they kept saying no-one else complained about the taste and also cook are from 25-30yrs so that cant happen. Didn't like this behaviour at all.
Rather I thought it's an old restaurant and when customer is saying taste is not as always they should have replaced the same without saying all these things.
We left the food as it is and they still didn't say anything.
Chris Lemos
This place is seriously overrated. We ordered a mutton biriyani which is a classic here and we're thoroughly disappointed. The rice was very oily, tasteless and the mutton was undercooked and tough. The only saving grace was the pineapple raita we ordered along with the biryani. The butter chicken was quite nice although it was oily as well.

This place is situated on the busy street of East Street. It has been the go to place for great food for many people . There is usually waiting in the evening since theres alot of demand but you get seated in 15-20 mins.

Once we were seated we were given glasses for water. Before the waiter could pour water i noticed there was lipstick mark on one of the glasses which shows that they don't clean the cutlery well at all. Due to that i checked all the other glasses and all of them were very very dirty. I still cannot believe i saw i complete lip mark of pink lipstick on my glass.
When i said that , he got new glasses which weren't any cleaner .. then we got spoons and forks... Those were even worse.
There was masala and oil stain on the spoons and forks . Anyone with an OCD will lose their appetite at this point.

Then came the manager. Always in a hurry to make us order food. He didn't let us ordered but instead ordered food for us on his own... By saying mutton roganjosh is good, have that ... Don't have chicken cutlets but have kebab...

Coming to the food , we had , chicken biryani , mutton kebab , reshmi kebab , mutton roganjosh

The mutton dish was very spicy but full of flavour.
Mutton kebab was okay
Chicken biriyani came with a raita and boiled egg... Which was delicious.
Would just like to have good friendly staff

This is one of the oldest restaurant in Pune. Located at MG road, camp area.
The food quality is really good. Went here specially for Biryani but looks like it didn't suite our taste at all. Had asked suggestion of starters from staff, they suggested their speciality of rotisserie but it was too bland. Staff is impolite. Surely not visiting here again.

Food: 1/5
Service: 2/5
Ambiance: 2.5/5
Cleanliness: 3/5

Although we stay other side of the town but we love George biryani and we make sure to pack it if that side of the town. It's the best if nothing works we order from dunzo. Their chicken tikka biryani is the hero of our parties

Another classic case of originality compromised. I remember eating at this place since 4-5 years, with impeccable quality and delicious food always. But after yesterday's meal, it felt like good old George restaurant has also followed the classic case of fading quality over time.
Ordered a butter chicken ( which was the primary reason to drive up till there), and was left disappointed from the first bite itself. It's taste was all different, nothing like I recalled it ever was. It felt diluted and completely below par.
The positive point though was the mutton biryani- with tender pieces of mutton cooked perfectly and the ever generous serving.
Overall, it wasn't a great experience. You expect the quality to be standard for a place which has been around since decades.
I sincerely wish that good old George doesn't follow in the footsteps of deteriorating quality of the very food it's known for.
RAJAT DAS
Please dont visit this restaurant after looking that it is a kind of 100 years old, you would in a mess with the manager.

GIVE IT A SHOUT!! 😋😋
For all you biryani lovers out there - yumm yumm yumm!!!
Mutton Biryani and you got this right.
If its a lazy sunday and you want a treat then this is "the place" for mutton biryani!! Just go for it without a second thought is what I suggest.
Food - The mutton was tender, juicy, subtle with the right blend of spice and a perfect wholesome meal. However did not enjoy the Sunday Special - Mutton Banjara Ghost (very mediocre)

Ambience - Always crowded on sudays. One waits for 15-20 mins - but worth the wait.

Service - ummm... to be honest the service lacks eye for detail. They switched off the AC while we were still dining. We finished our meal but had to wait for a while for the finger bowl. When I shared the feedback with the staff regarding the Banjara Ghost they dint seem to acknowledge it the RIGHT WAY. That's why a 03 star rating.

The food makes up for the service standards!!

Value for Price - 8/10

Worth a try!! Big thubs up guys!!

The first place I went to, that too immediately after checking into my hotel was George. The major reason - their Mutton Biryani. And it was worth it. Simply the best Mutton Biryani I have ever had, huge portion, good portion of Mutton which was brilliantly cooked and perfect taste. My trip couldn't have started in a better manner.
Also had Chicken Cutlets which were decent and Caramel Custard which can be better. What I have surely missed is their Grilled Chicken!
The ambiance is old school and I liked it that way, if places like these start stressing on their ambiance, they would lose the charm. Service is neat and prices are reasonable. Anyways, a must visit if you are in Pune.

This restaurant is no more what it used to be during my college days in Pune in the mid-1990s. The quality of both food and service has deteriorated. Don't feel like visiting again.

No good things to say about this one. Guess they have been disappointing since 1936. Felt pretty much insulted.
Mayuri Shah
Biryani is overrated . The quantity of chicken in the biryani was quite good . I do not think the rice used was basmati . I think they are using some other cheaper long grain rice . The rice grains were not firm as you get with good quality basmati rice neither was there any aroma . The biryani was boring and not wow in any way . I guess they are just running on old fame . Very rarely have I been disappointed with famous places in Pune but yeah there was nothing special about this place .

Slow Service, Taste of food not meeting expectations. Waiters and manger only concentrating to regular customers. Staff was rude and not bothered about us. According to me not worth of waht Bill we pay.

After a long lazy delay we finally went to Gorge. This isn’t really just a Restrau but it’s a legend by itself. For more fancy people there is a good Air Conditioning place but considering the atmo, we choose to sit downstairs (which turned out a good decision). Within minutes the place got full and buzzing. The Rotisserie chicken was Ok ish as I felt it should had the marinations deep through however the Butter chicken, Roti and Biryani are really good. Roti particularly was soft and didn’t felt chewy at all. The steal was when the bill came and it was surprisingly super pocket friendly. Worth every penny 😀

The only place in pune which serves good rotisserie chicken. Whenever I am in within 5km radius of it I make sure I go there, not just rotisserie chicken, you'll find their hyderbad chicken amazing. Must visit once.

I was @ my all time favourite place, George @ East Street Pune after many years & had prawns masala. The food was quality was not upto the mark as it used to be 4 years back. M not complaining abt ur Chef or cooking staff. It was about the oil, which was not the same that was 4 years back. I was a regular @ ur place sine 2001, during my college days. Hence, I know the taste of prawns that George Restaurant had that time.
Still I wud rate 3, for the amazing food you people served me for many years.

Good location, an old joint, economical, the sweet corn soup was good, roasted chicken with mint chutney was also well cooked. Had ordered dish of the day murton chops which too was very good. A good place to eat tasty food.

I had been to this restaurant in the last week at the peak hours for dinner. The food is good for the price they offer. Some of the attendants may not be very welcoming but one or two who understands that customers will be leaving the restaurant if asked to change the table twice after occupying the space. Felt sad when we were asked to move to other tables twice. Fortunately one of the waiters guided is to sit at the same place and arrange other tables for more people coming in. Thanks! I was really hungry.

The Mutton Biryani was so scrumptious, the subtle aroma of spices blended completely with the well cooked mutton. This place is treat for a foodie. The staff was humble and polite. For dessert, we ordered a triple sundae, that too complemented our meal very well.

George Restaurant is the go-to place for sumptuous and mouthwatering eating delights. The wooden sitting and elegant support staff adds to the amazing food that they serve here.
During my visit, I witnessed a lot of happy families making nice memories including me.
The butter chicken was smooth and full of buttery. Also, the chicken biryani was bursting with flavours and had an amazing aroma.

First of all, George Restaurant provides a great ambience. We ordered Chicken kebab and Chicken biriyani.
Even though it is bit expensive , taste and ambience provides justice to the cost. I would recommend this place for a classy outing with an expected budget of 500-750 for 2 persons.

I have been hearing about this place since I arrived in Pune. I finally decided to try this place. I must say, I had a lot of expectations from this place, but had to leave disappointed. It might have been better in the earlier times, but as of today it's not worth the hype.

I wanted to have mutton biriyani, but was surprised to know that they use lamb meat instead of goat meat. I have seen most of the good biriyani outlets preferring goat meat as mutton. Anyways, I went for the next best thing on the menu - Chicken Biriyani.

Their style of biriyani is largely inspired by the Kolkata style biriyani. The amount of masala is less, unlike Hyderabadi biriyani. The biriyani is served with a potato and a half egg. The taste is okay, nothing out of the world or something you would crave for. The quality of rice and chicken used is good. The service is extremely fast, though the staff doesn't care about any formalities.

Overall, it is a decent place. If I am in Camp, I might go again, but won't travel from some other end of the city specially to visit this place.
There is a reason why old school rock and roll still hasn't gone out if fashion. And the same idea transcends into food. And a classic example would be a chicken tandoori from George's.
Even for tandoor connoisseurs like us, this one tasted familiar yet new and that's magic that only one of the finest restaurants in Pune can pull off.
.
.
Food : 5/5
Ambience : 4/5

Living in Pune and not eaten in this legendary restaurant is almost impossible. George restaurant itself is a part of modern and contemporary history of Pune. They are upholding their fame and name for serving best Biryani, kababs, and Parsy delicacies. One of my favorite restaurant. Their Irani Biryani is one of the best.
In frame : Irani Chicken Biryani, paneer butter masala..

This place is so much fun and the food is so tasty. There is an upstairs ac section and in general the staff is quite friendly. There is no alcohol though which I think is okay.
