Review Sambar South Indian Restaurant - Pune

Onkar Date
Sambar is a bustling place, and it's no secret that parking can be a significant challenge here, as there is no parking space available. Despite this, the food is undeniably good and delicious. Be prepared for potential waiting times due to the crowd. You have the choice to either stand and eat or find a seat. On the downside, I found the staff to be somewhat rude. Despite this, the dal makhani was a standout dish, making it a worthwhile stop for a tasty meal, even if the overall experience might have its hiccups. Please keep in mind the parking situation when planning your visit.

Sambar Aromas of South is a delightful South Indian restaurant that offers a fantastic dining experience. The menu boasts a variety of delectable dishes at reasonable rates. The standout items are undoubtedly the mouthwatering dosas. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic South Indian flavors.

Best outlet for south Indian food. Taste of food is very authentic. I love the taste and they serve it like their south Indian style. Quantity of food is also much. Considering quality and quantity of food the cost is very reasonable. The only two points are need to improve is that the staff is not that much helpful with customer. And they haven't their own parking. The self service is also available. Maintained hygiene and cleanliness. Worth to visit.

Very nice place for grabbing a quick bite of our regular South Indian delicacies. I highly recommend the Swami Special dosa combo (see photo).

Had combo meal(dosa, idli, vada, sambar, sheera,Upma ) it was good but next time Iโ€™ll prefer having each dish separately, donโ€™t wanted to confuse my taste buds ๐Ÿ˜…

The sambar combo is a standout. Their dosa's are sheer delight crispy on the outside, yet soft and flavourful inside. The ambience is cosy, staff is friendly and attentive. You can have unlimited sambar and coconut chutney and the taste never disappoints. The only issue is the parking area, not enough space to park vehicles. Overall good and highly recommended for vegetarians.

Located next to Phoenix Market City, this is rare find. They serve authentic South Indian dishes along with plenty of typical Chinese cuisine. Prices are very reasonable (or even pretty cheap compared to other traditional restaurants). This is self service place with plenty of table to enjoy delicious food. Only negative issue that I can find is that they don't have dedicated parking space. Overall ranking - 10 / 10.

Fresh, clean and sufficient sitting arrangement. Food was hot and taste is good. The portion offered is more the sufficient. Filter coffee is very good. The bindi laddu is big and taste. Sambar Wada dipp is filling for the stomach. Must try once, if your on that way at nagar road.

This restaurant is in good locality. Situated opposite to SBI bank, Gigaspace IT park. Food is good here but pricey. Only two dippings they commonly serve South indian foods - coconut chutney and sambar. No tomato, peanut, or any other chutney. Tea is also costly 15rs and giving in small glass. They need to rethink about their prices.

Awesome South Indian food also serve other cuisines. Best place for breakfast and brunch. Quality and quantity both are great. Ordered Paper Masala Dosa and 3 Jewell Noodles awesome taste. Self service but fast. ambiance is also nice and price are also Mordred. Would visit again.

A second new South Indian restaurant, where the old Woodlands used to be, has opened on Connaught Road ,close to the station. โ€˜Sambarโ€™ is the standard lentil and drumstick accompaniment to idlis and vadas. Look forward to checking it out. Not only South indian there are Chinese, best filter coffee available.

Amazing food! To the south Indians and the people who love south Indian cuisine, this place is a must visit. In addition think once again while choosing the shakes. They aren't up to the mark sometimes.

Dined in this place before lockdown while on our way back to Mumbai. We heard a lot about their delicious south indian dishes and went to try it. And it was so true. We loved the food their. They habe an open kitchen where u can see ue food being prepared. Very clean premises and the quantity of the items were also very good. Had Masala Dosa, Filter coffee, Bisibele bath, pongal and curd rice combo. Perfect on taste and lovely staff. Such a wonderful experience will always go back to grab a quick bite of dosas and idlis

Honest Review -
=============
This place is overhyped. I found the quality of dosa very horrible. Why?
1- Dosa crust is very thick, not crunchy & dosa cools off in a minute.
2- Too much tasteless stuffing, dosa becomes very heavy & stuffing remain cool only because heat doesnt get through of thick crust.
3- Chutney has no taste,to make it thick channa quotient is made very higher. Feels like u are eating grinded liquid wood.
4- Final thing, Sambar is poorest of them all. Look at the irony, restaurant name is Sambar. Basically its citrus tomato purรฉe with no veggies & its not even hot. Who eats dosa with cold sambar?

I am sorry if its inconvenient to read for a few but please go & taste for yourself. It spoiled my mood completely. Rest of things chinese food etc i didnt taste so wont comment. Only reason it attracts crowd because of catchy name,a very convenient location & ample space to sit with self service.

Well it will be better if u tell ur staff to be polite and friendly im really liking d taste but staff is not at all good the are rude with everyone i do not know what wrong with them kindly teach ur staff how to treat the customer if someone request for something for an example i went to ur rstro and asked for a butter masala dosa and i asked to spread the masala over d dosa so the guy who was the cashier said vry rudely aisa ne hota i ignored dn i wnt to the cook i requested him to the same he also said nahi karte hum aise... aise hi milega waz wierd i mean common is dis too tough for him and showng so much attitude that is only rsn i gv u 1 star u might thnk for dis resn i marked you low for u may be a small concern bt being as consumer yes this is d big concern and concern wz not dat he did not do dat d way both guy reacted dat is d prb thnk you

It a good mess set-up from price and speed POV, Aalu wada was cold n old, sambar watered down, dosa are thick and chole was watered down too... Only impressive was Bhatura! Full family verdict is if u like clean and good quality food, this is not the place...

Today I had ordered mushroom fried rice.they had given me veg fried rice.when I had complained they said in Hindi aisa hi hota hy.taste was wrost.
It was the worst food,I had ever eaten.

Ordered Puri Sagu. Sagu - gravy was extra salty. The place is well maintained and busy most of the time. Decent place for South Indian food lovers.
Ameytalkatkar
Pathetic. They served mix vada where both vadas were colder than water. I had to eat those so that I do not have to throw them away. I complained but he was like in hibernate mode. Did listen but did not respond. I would not visit this place. It is not how aromas of south feels like. Big NO

Pocket friendly, quick serve, hygienic, tasty south Indian food. The location is easily accessible. We went there for a Sunday brunch. It was crowded but with the ample seating space, we didn't have to wait for a table. Would love to visit again.

Worst place to visit in the morning. Person doesn't even know how to make DOSA. Person taking order doesn't know how to treat customers in the morning. Do not go in the morning. #worstplacetovisitinthemorning

Worst place to ever have a breakfast. This guys take 20 mins for a Dosa to be served. Where the person making Dosa doesn't even know how to make Dosa. Avoid going in the morning.. #WorstPlaceForBreakfast

Always crowded and they serves all South Indian delicacy..

I ordered maysore masala dosa which was stuffed with dry potato curry and 3 types of chutney.. It was served with coconut chutney and sambar.. Dosa was absolutely luscious.. It was crispy from outside and soft from inside.. Sambhar is one of the most yummy South Indian place I've visited. I got my hands on their huge idlis which were for 30 bucks and they fill you up so very much and satify you. Amazing and delicious concept. Really enjoyed it ๐Ÿ˜‹

Awesome South Indian breakfast options. Tried their Mr. Swamy Breakfast which had Shira upma dosa idli wada. Quality was great. But please don't opt for Chinese food here it's disgusting. They don't even give schezwan chutney with Chinese food. Instead they give you tomato sauce. Stay away from their Chinese food. South Indian food is awesome

Not a place to visit with family. They have self service and different counters. Everything is prepared seperately. Most probably you will spend time standing in front of the counters while your party eats.

We ordered rawa dosa, which was supposed to take 25 mins to prepare, while vada and other dosas were ready.
They don't inform the preparation time at the counter and billing counter has no concern for your experience or time.

Food is ok.
Kiran Waghchoure
The best South Indian food I have had ever. They are quite pocket friendly while quantity is really large compare to others.
I loved filter coffee and set dosa

Authentic South Indian breakfast with no comparison in the taste. Tried Bana Bhaji and Mangalore Bhajji which was really good in taste and were served hot also. Cheap, healthy and tasty food joint. Really enjoyed the breakfast, which was very heavy too.

If you looking for some really good South Indian food then Sambar is the best place to have it.They serve almost all variety of south Indian foods. They have a coupon counter in the front where we take the coupon and give it at the respective counter and then collect the food once it is prepared. We have tried their Mysore masala dosa, Rawa onion Masala dosa, Masala dosa, onion uttappa, filter coffee, and South Indian Meal.It is a very economic place and crowded place. The ambiance is pretty good.Their filter coffee and sitafal shake is the best.

A must try restaurant.

This place is famous for South indian dishes. I have tried rava dosa, it was nice and crispy.. also i love tea / coffee at this place . One can also try veg birayni . Price is little bit high but taste is good and they maintain hygiene too.. so overall its good place for south indian food lovers.
Ps: there is also place for parking out side of hotel...
Nidhi Verma
If you are craving for South Indian food then this place is a must visit.

We have tired there classic masala dosa, cheese masala dosa, cut masala dosa, lassi, medu vada.
And we loved everything.

Sandeep ArunKumar Ghiya
Pros:- very competitive rates compared to other south India restaurants. Dosa and vada sambar is good. The best thing for me was filter coffee hot and strong. Idli chilli was also average.
Cons :- self service and its over crowded and a single contour for dosa makes u stand in the queue for a long time.
Bisibali was not as good as it could have been.
Hygiene was also concern for me as this place is crowded at times. Also they are using a broomstick to clean the dosa tava, don't know how hygienic is that.
Akash Bhattacharjee
One of the best places to have south Indian food in pune. This place resembles to our college canteen in Bangalore and thats makes it a special one for us. There is a coupon contour out front and one has to take a coupon beforehand and give the coupon to the respective contour. Its s self service place and has a lot of setting available. We tried Masala dosa, Butter Plain Dosa and Rava Masala dosa, all three were good. The also serves filter coffee, probably the best out there in Pune. Pricing is also pretty descent and the food is also very good.
Challa Prashanth
It's a pure veg hotel. And it's famous for breakfast such as dosa and setdosa etc..
U will also get some rice dishes such as noodles and fried rice but very oily.
Literally u can make another dish by using that oil.
Prices is also too high
If you are pure veg and u can't eat in the hotel's were they prepare both veg and non veg then this is for u.
Rohan Dharne
Filter coffee is v. good. Dosas are nice. Medu wada is ordinary. Its a self service restaurant. Ample space for sitting. Not a bad place for south indian breakfast items. They also serve South Indian thalis for main course.
Dev Sharma
Very big place to have specially south and Chinese dishes. Taste of south Indian food is just awsome. Chinese I had better than this but yes you can try once.
Amit Rana
Ambience : 4/5
ย ย Service : 4/5ย Food : 3.5/5 - A bit too spicy for our tastebuds. And the Sol kadi wasn't up to the mark. Will I visit again? Yes.ย I love dosa... sambar
Sandhya Banda
Visited this place because of it's ratings, but was I upset in the end. The food was COLD, basically I was served food from the morning batch. The wada was chewy, idli was too dense. Sambaar was ok, didn't expect much too. Though I was here in the evening, how hard is it to steam the food up? Mango milkshake was good not great. Came here with great expectations to have good south indian, but well.
Rohit Upadhyay
Not place for you, of you want to sit and relax, the owner is a shitty person. Asked us to leave 5 min after we finished our coffee and Uthappa. That too his tone wasn't polite.

Eat and leave that's the motto of this place.
ImKapil
It's okay not good we ordered hakka noodles the taste is very weird ๐Ÿ˜ฃ there is self service option but food taste is not good my overall experience is not good there
Sachin Shinde
South indian Pure Veg restaurant located near Pheonix Market City, Viman Nagar.

Crowded & self service place, ambience is nothing great. They have huge sitting arrangement, you'll find standing as well as sitting tables.

Taste is below average, due to heavy crowd on Dosa counter (Counter 1), Cook served same type of 2 dosas for Mysore masala & Rawa onion Masala dosa. he said earlier that Rawa dosa will take time but then served two same dosas (same ingredients) as two different dosas.

Sambar was too sweet & Chutney was not upto the mark. You can't expect this type of taste for Sambar & Chutney in restaurants marketed as south indian restaurant.

Pocket friendly restaurant, but otherwise I believe this is highly overrated restaurant.

โ˜•๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿš๐Ÿจ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Ambience: 3/5
Food Taste: 1/5
Service: NA
Hygeine: 2/5
Value for Money: 3.5/5
Swapnil Kudekar
"SAMBAR" the name itself tell a story of restaurant . Authentic south Indian food includes breakfast items ,lunch ,tea and coffee in reasonable price . Tasty and yummy food
Dipesh
Worst south indian food restaurant.
The sambar is too spicy.
Chutney isn't of coconut.
Masala dosa is worst. The potato sabji served with it has amount of oil which could cover the entire planet. Very very oily.

This restaurant is taking advantage of good location, nothing else.

Worst south indian food ever.
Kumar
I would highly recommend this place for South Indian meal only because they many varieties of dosas and other South Indian food. I would also suggest have tea also
.
.
.
Rating 4/5
Hygiene 3.5/5
Sanchibadkas
The place has a nice environment and the seating area is not congested. The quality and quantity of food is decent. Though taste has a huge scope of improvement.
South Indian menu is a safe option to order here. Rest other stuff needs way to much of improvement.
Aishwarya Dhaigude
The filter coffee and tea here's pretty good but the food here is definitely not what you would call tasty. Many people are regular customers here due to its prime location(it's located right in front of an IT park) but it isn't where you'd go if you wish to savour exquisite tastes and appreciate the food. I believe that there are much better options available around.
Mahima
The perfect taste of south indian. We ordered one rava masala dosa, three piece idli and two choley bhatoore. The food was great. The place is very hygenic. The service is very fast. The coconut chutney is worth tasting.
Neha Shukla
Pocket friendly and delicious south Indian food.
Located near Phoenix mall vimannagar, this place is huge with indoor as well as outdoor place with tables. It is a total self service restaurant. The main thing that attracts people here is the price. The food is good in quantity and very cost efficient. I have tried a lots of dishes from here.
I would highly recommend the filter coffee and bisi bele bhath. I liked their dosa, curd rice and mirchi wada too. The veg biryani is quite normal and the fries were a disaster.. So i would recommend trying out the south Indian dishes only.

I would rate this place accordingly

Food: 4/5
Hygiene : 3/5
Value for money : 4/5
Ayush
Food quality sucks! My meal was served with a paper inside, I asked for a refund but they refused clearly. They don't care and fear about that, and I'm pretty sure they don't care about what they serve too. They take money first for the order and then don't bother to care about food quality. Have you ever seen there dosa station!?
Aditi Bainss
Great place for authentic South Indian food. You have to place your order at the counter and then receive your order yourself too. Then you can sit at one of the tables and have your food.

The place smells of great south Indian food. We ordered the butter masala dosa and it was amazing. We could smell the heavy serving of butter. Absolutely delicious and filling. Have your daily dose of South Indian deliciousness at this place and you won't regret it.
Akshita Jain
This place is near Phoenix mall, if you are there don't forget to visit this restaurant. Very huge two halls for seating space. Self-service system which is very quick. They have short and sweet menu. I tried rava onion masala dosa, schzewan noodles, chole bhature, chill panner dry and some sweets. Every dish was pleasant-tasting and satisfactory. The savory rava masala dosa you won't find anywhere in Pune. A must try dish if you love south-Indian food. Sweets were also luscious. Gajar halwa, bundi laddo and gulabjamun all three were scrumptious. Hygiene was of top notch. A must visit place.
Hemangi Litke Hendre
Yesterday we went after shopping
Near place from Phoenix mall. Nice good food, pocket friendly, good staff. Overall family can hangout here. We have ordered wada sambaar, Idly. Nice test. Most testy dish we have ordered is flat noodle ๐Ÿœ which was really testy and awesome.
They have made it with capsicum and onion
Loved it ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ recommended for all

If you're around never miss eating here !!

Perfect South Indian dishes ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Ordered Thali which was off the hook

Idli so soft and sambhar extremely delightful.

I loved the Upma which I usually never like ๐Ÿ˜

Last but not the least is the awesome #FilterCoffee

Great place for south indian meals as well as chinese .pocket friendly n portion was enough . always full of crowd .filtercoffee was too good .
Price 5 star
Ambience 3 star
Taste 5 star

Highly disappointing. When i first visited was not really that disappointing but my last visit was horrible . The food served was literally stale and seeing the broom the cook uses to clean the dosa tawa was good enough to give me creeps ! Unhygienic!
Hajra Balarka
A regular to this place, i must say this is a must visit if wallet friendliness is the main concern. The Mushroom fried rice was great even until two weeks back, but somehow had dipped in the quality. Overall, decent, but a tad better than Up South, if you wanna compare.
Apoorva
Sambar is literally the only place in viman Nagar where you can have a fulfilling delicious meal and a decent ambience in just 80rs. The butter dosa is Divine, so is the cheese dosa, actually all the dosas are amazing depending on what your personal flavor is.
Pro-tip: do not order a rava dosa if you're in a hurry, that one takes some time to make.
Srinivasan Mudliar
The person at the counter at this time seems way too frustrated to even take any cognisance of a customer's reaction to being sidelined and someone else's order being taken first... The issue is not of why someone else's order was taken before mine.. but the way he reacted when I shrugged my shoulder just telling him that I was waiting... His first sentence at me shrugging my shoulder was kya Issue hai... Tum pehle kyun nahi diya, idhar itna lok rukta hai, woh customer ka galti hai that he gave the coupon first...
Which logic and which worlds logic is this guy using... He of course was frustrated however that still doesn't give him the levy of behaving like a jerk... His contention till last was aisa kya hua,, exactly the same thing that I was asking him ke Aisa kya hua that u got so angry. All he was aisa woh customer Kiya unko samjhna chaiye... Hilarious n Stupidity se bharpur wala Saturday
A good South Indian place to go in viman nagar
There taste is good feels the chef over there are from south so the authenticity is always there.

The best dish to try there is OPEN DOSA super delicious and full of butter๐Ÿ˜‹ and the filter coffee.
And there are lots of things to try.

The only thing i missing was the service area as the restaurant is completely self service.

I prefer this place to try for the South Indian cuisine
Amey Patil
Food is very good, hygiene is maintained, perfect for breakfast!! South Indian best dishes are available over here. good fast service is here.

Being a South Indian food lover I like to try every South Indian outlet.. so talking about my experience here.. the taste is just similar comparing to other South joints.. pls improve hygiene practice in kitchen.. else it was ookok
Sukanya Jadhav
I love South Indian food especially Idli dosa sambar chutney .
Just done with my interview and came out to eat something and this was just on the other side of road.
One of the typical South Indian restaurant completely buzzing with people and food .
Ordered Masala dosa and Curd vada and tea .
It was good .
I am going to be trying their other items in the coming days !

Mahesh
basically this is south indian hotel with ample space of sitting arrangment. there is nothing so special, I feel its a more like corporate cafeteria place with self service system.
Average taste with resonable rates.
Jharna Gupta
I had read good reviews about the filter coffee here, so went to try it.
Full marks to the filter coffee.
The second pic is of the chaos at the cash counter. People do not follow a queue and staff also does not insist. This results in absolute chaos.
Sambar please take note!
I hope when I visit to try out other items, I don't face the same issue.
Abhijeet Gaikwadโ™ฅ๏ธ
Good place. All the food was good.๐Ÿ˜˜we ordered ,masala dosa, swamy special, mendu vada,uttappa.๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹all the dish were awesome .would definetly love to visit this place .
Shreyas Gursal
What I love about this place is it is very pocket friendly and does not compromises on taste usually crowded but you'll find the place to sit because it has huge sitting area you might need to wait for sometimes because at peak hours it tends to get crowded. But if broke this is the best option in vimannagar
Ankita A
Tried plain dosa and filter coffee. Authentic south indian restaurant. The filter coffee is a must try. Reasonable prices. If one wants to avoid the crowd, try the restaurant during non-peak hours.

Sambar Pure Veg is located near Phoenix East Court in Viman nagar. It is famous for tasty dosas, idlis, vadas and filter coffee. Ambiance is decent and the seating area is divided in two section. This place is always jam packed with people from offices nearby.

We ordered paper butter masala dosa, cheese masala dosa, cold coffee and filter coffee. It's a self service place with open kitchen, you can see your food getting prepared in front of your eyes.

Paper butter masala dosa was huge in size served with potato filling. It was served with sambar and chutney. It was buttery and crispy. It was delicious and I loved it.

Cheese masala dosa was sprinkled with shredded cheese and served with potato masala, sambar and chutney. It was good. The taste of sambar could be improved.
Cold coffee and filter coffee was good too.

Overall it's a good place to have South Indian food in Viman nagar.

Today's was done with " Sambar ". We were almost six people all of my friend circle. My favourite dish is masala dosa, which is just mouth watering. I also liked the service provided by hotel. We went at very pick hours. Also the taste of tea is simply awww.

Love the masala dosa and filter coffee here. Brings back the memories of Bangalore. The format of the restaurant is also that of Bangaloreโ€™s Sagars and Darshinis. Quick, no-nonsense, consistent, economical South Indian food.

An amazing place for the authentic South Indian dishes. Mangalore buns with Sagu, Dahi Wada and Filter Coffee being my personal favorites. Do explore the menu and choose from the variety they have.

I went here a week back..

My previous experience was okay so decided to visit here again with the family but this time it was rude and not satisfied with the service and not at all value to the money.

They took order but while delivering they limited the options and even when we were eating they refused to provide sambhar or chutney and said they threw it in the dustbin. Atleast when your customers were there then you could have informed or wait till they finish.

Also, the cleaning worker asked, "when are we planning to leave"!!! That's very direct. If you're in a hurry to close the restaurant then you should not take any more orders.

Even more, when we complained about this to the management they were not ready to agree and the response from them was rude. It seem like they don't care much about this. They could've paid attention to what their customers were saying.

Will not recommend and will not visit again!!

It's such a lovely place for breakfast! Heaven for fans of south Indian food. Besides South Indain food, quite a few Chinese items are also a part of the menu. Promt service and decent food. Light on the pocket too.
