Review Suonmoi - Pune

Zuber Shaikh
A very quiet and cozy place for the entire family to enjoy the great food they serve. They serve new variety of Chinese dishes. Special recommendations in appetizers is their Crunchy Chicken with Mayo & Mongolian sauce (image enclosed). Highly recommend this place for lovers of a variety of the Chinese cuisines.

We really enjoyed the food and service But will suggest it could be much better as it is proper Chinese cuisine so we expect more better quality

Dear Mrs. Hassan, Your son Hassan, is a very good friend of mine, and when I said that I had comments about the restaurant, he immediately said, "John, it's my mother's restaurant, please tell her". So. I haven't eaten here in a while (my bad, low on cash) but when I did eat there, the food was FABULOUS. 😋 However, perhaps because I am half Chinese, I love a chilled Tsing Tao beer or two or a glass or three of Chinese plum wine to accompany such great food, particularly the fresh and incredible seafood chow mein........but your restaurant does not serve these. May I please suggest that you add these to make our experience complete at your restaurant? Thank you! Please say hello to Hassan and tell him to be careful with airport security. (He knows what I mean). He should start flying private to avoid irritating problems. See you soon!

Hidden in the quiet lanes of boat club road, this place is a wonder. Suonmoi is lovely and one of the oldest Chinese and Oriental resturant in Pune. I happened to visit here recently after so many years and still the place looks the same as it was. The food has been always great and their culture of service intact. Suonmoi serves a wide range of oriental delicacies made of fish, chicken, beef, veggies and meat. Their soups and wontons are awesome along with the other starters. They will serve you the food as per your taste and liking thats what i have liked the most about Suonmoi. Uncle Syed has always been an awesome host, warm and welcoming as ever. Its a must visit place for Chinese food if you are looking for options around DP road, boat club road and around the Bund Garden area!

This weekend we went for some work near Bund Garden Road and planned to have our lunch there. We wanted to eat Chinese food and landed at Suonmoi. This restaurant (Suonmoi) was in a lane near Boat Club road and they have some parking space. The food was really good and it comes in a large portion. They have tried to maintain the authentic taste rather than making it Indianized Chinese food. I found this restaurant reasonably priced. Service is fast. We tried both Chinese and Thai dishes in both Veg and Non-veg category. We liked the taste of all the dishes we ordered, except for the Roast Chicken Honey Glazed, which we found little sweeter than we expected. We started with Chicken Wanton Soup and Fried Spring chicken....and both were awesome !! The veg starter (Mix Veg in Szechwan Sauce) was also very good. Try this restaurant if you are planning for good Chinese food.

Great spring roll, huge portions, extremely fast service, awesome taste

Suommoi is one of the classic Chinese, rather Indo Chinese fusion, food restaurant that sprang up during the first culinary revolution ( as I like to call it) of Pune before the millenials screw ed up Gastronomy for us. I like their sweet garlic sauce fish and prawns both. Even the hot garlic sauce fish is delicious too. They use white snapper for their fish based dishes which I appreciate. All the other restaurants use mekong Basa which I detest. Their thai rice - both Sapphad and phad thai and the rice with pineapples all are equally good. American Chopsuey is also worth trying if you like the old school by the book cuisine! Soups are delicious too especially the Tom kha; very thick.

Having experienced authentic Thai food, this one needs to meet expectation, though it is better than most. The ambience is acceptable and standard which is good since there was nothing too fancy. The wanting were the ingredients that are expected in a Thai curry or soup.

This place was a wonderful surprise for me. I was invited for a birthday party here. The food out here is just amazing. The tofu actually stood out for me. It was just melt in the mouth. The chicken sweet corn soup, fried noodles, fried rice were just wow. This place is truly a hidden gem worth a visit.

Good place to dine in. Little costly. Chinese food is not that great. I would suggest sea food soup and ask them fish with white sauce in starters. It's not on the menu as far as I remember but one of the best. Ask them what's the best in the restaurant and they'll recommend you.

Sounmoi is located in one of the bylanes of Sassoon -Bund Gard Road. The road is strikingly quiet as compared to the busy main road. We had made a reservation before reaching as it was a weekend and had also ordered meals for the kids at the time of reserving a table. We had ordered Singapore Noodles for Kids, Tom Kha Soup, Phad See-Ew Jae Noodle and Kai Phad Bai Gra Prow. We had ordered Veg Singapore noodle and they hd served Chicken Singapore Noodles. Hence reducing one star in the rating. All the items were very good in taste and very flavorful and we liked the cocunut based soup Tom Kha, which was the star dish for us.

Quick read: worth a visit; good food; decently priced; good portion size and neat decor Almost a hidden gem near bund garden which i hadn't heard of till today; but going by the reviews it seems like quite a famous joint and quite a few tables were occupied too Efforts put into the decor are nice; a lemongrass room freshener would enhance the asian theme. Chopsticks aren't offered but surely can be; its just a nice touch which a lot of your clients would appreciate. Service is prompt but very very transactional with zero inputs given by the staff while placing the order; had to actually call for someone to take my order after sitting for a long time Coming to the food; i ordered a wonton soup(chicken), manchurian vegetable and Satay Beef; no mains or rice or noodles ordered and neither were they offered by the waiter. The soup came in first and was nice and they served a substantial portion of it too with 5 wontons inside.. on the downside it was very underseasoned as it tasted like chicken stock. The wontons were lightly filled but the pastry could have been thinner. Next came in a bowl of complimentary pickled vegetables with a red sauce(sweet). Lacked flavor and depth as it seemed like something they made that morning Satay and Manchurian arrived in quick succession and were proactively served onto our plates even though i asked him not to(i like to serve myself) Both were good and the peanut sauce served alongside complimented the flavor of the Satay well. The manchurian balls however didn't have as much sauce around them and seemed too crispy and drier than they should have been.. the flavors were spot on though Great place to spend a quiet afternoon for lunch as the service isnt too intrusive. Great food. We ordered Seafood soup, Fried Chicken Wantons, chicken lollipop, chicken Hakka Noodles, chicken fried rice & Mongolian Chicken. Almost all the food was great. Esp the soup & Wantons. The staff can be better though. They need to be a bit more attentive& courteous.

We love everything about Suonmoi! The authenticity is what brings us back ever so often. A family favourite for its "no-fluff" and consistently great food and service, I highly recommend it... for Suonmoi is a feeling and not just food!

I love this place... one of the few Chinese Indo restaurants that have stuck to their old quality and taste. Service is good but many times the staff are arrogant. The owner is a jolly man who loves to introduce new dishes. I too have curated a few dishes there, for example The nonveg Mixed Oyster sauce Fried Rice , The buff dry stir-fried in garlic n basil n spicy whole chillies. Good stuff. Rs. 1000 for 2 approximately. I would go again and again. Not wheelchair friendly at all, there are steps.

One of the oldest legendary Chinese restaurants in pune. It's located in a narrow lane which is great after dinner walks. The Peking duck pancakes are famous. It's ideally accompanied with a sweet sauce. This one is not a spicy preparation. Must try this dish. Portions are enough for two people. I ordered a seafood soup which is just delicious! The crab in it is soo soft and fresh. Amazing soup! The waiters are really alert and prompt. The washroom is clean but has ordinary fittings. Not a spick bathroom but it doesn't matter since it's maintained. You can pay here by card too. Have uploaded the menu. Also check out the chef specials.

This definitely deserves a spot amongst top asian cuisine restaurants in Pune. Spacious sitting, good portion size, courteous staff and super yummy food makes this joint a special place. It's been there since long time but I am new to this party but I am glad I came across this restaurant. No point in describing specific dish here as I have loved almost everything I have tried and I am writing this after visiting this place 3rd time. Do try their Pot meals, specially do not miss their butter garlic crab I consider it as their signature dish and nothing beats it. Overall great place for all asian cuisine fans. Cheers.

One of the best options for chinese available in pune I will say.Its a very descent place with extremely delicious and authetic chinese food. The traditional hakka noodles is a must try.Quantity of food served is quite more than enough so I would say the price is value for money.Staff quite friendly.Must for chinese lovers

This particular Sunday my mum and I decided to revisit an old favorite of ours Suonmoi that we hadn't been to in years.

The owner, Syed, gave us fantastic food recommendations in beef, fish and chicken. We had two starters a beef (that we repeated twice) and a fish one, medium spicy and flavorful. For the main we had the Chicken Pad Thai Noodles that are simply to die for.

The quality, quantity and value for money here is impeccable. We're definitely coming back more often.

The Egg fried rice was so perfect that it did not need any add on's...
The Chicken stir fried noodles were yummy and the veggies fresh n crisp.
For me... the Beef in Peking sauce was the most authentic iv eaten in a very long time.
Great food... huge portions... personalized service by the owner himself...
What are you waiting for?

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 4.5/5
Ambience: 4/5
Value for money: 4/5

Wish they were more courteous and would have acted with some. They had a table and still we were made to wait and it is appalling n pathetic I would never recommend any of my friend to this place. I left the place when I asked them to provide me with one they did not a acknowledge. I wanted to give 0 for customer service
Cozy ambience for a date night or a family get together.
Really good food. The menu doesn't really include all the dishes they serve. Should ask the waiters for some different starters.
#bagsofgold #creamychickenmayonnaise #mincedchickencorriandersoup #triplehotgarlic
Are few of the dishes which are "must try".

One of my fav places for Chinese but somehow disappointed me wen I called for home delivery!
1) The menu on zomato is either fake or den not updated with the current prices
I was over charged for my dish!
2) Ordered for stewed noodles.. expecting a gud white sauce gravy over de noodles.. The veggies were perfect but no gravy at all.. jus boiled noodles topped wid boiled veggies n chicken!
Sorry to say but absolute disappointment for the first time tho I'm a regular to the restaurant!

One of the best chinese food i have ever had. WE had been there over the weekend. We were around 14 people with kids. The food was mouth watering we had ordered beef chilly, chicken lolly pops, pepper chicken, spring rolls, momos. Everything what we ordered was yummm...kids relished their fried rice. A Must visit when i got to Pune again....

This is one of the oldest Chinese places in Pune, and the food is really wholesome and good. I really recommend the gold coin prawns and the Peking duck with pancake.

To say this place was long pending on my list would be foolish since I have literally grown up with this place. For me Chinese meant Sounmoi!
I went there after a gap of 9 years and the place hasn't changed a bit. Same laid back ambience, courteous staff and worlds best Chinese food. Kimchi salad, soups and starters - Life Sorted!

The food is awesome. One of the best chinese food in pune. It has very good veg food as well. The stewed wonton is very soft and soupy. The food is excellent. Thai green curry has a very nice flavour, which is very refreshing.

We were a family of five at the restaurant on Sunday, Nov 11 at around 1 PM. Suonmoi came recommended. We ordered a variety of starters which included Veg Steamed Wontons, Roast Chicken, Spicy Fried Prawns, Honey Glazed Chicken and Fish Chilli Dry. For the main course we ordered a portion of Prawn Fried Rice, Thai Red Curry Chicken and Steamed Rice.

The food was uniformly tasteless and bland and did not pack the flavors expected of Chinese food. It appeared that the kitchen had said good bye to salt this Sunday as none of the dishes had adequate seasoning. The Honey Glazed Chicken could be mistaken for sugar candy with no other distinguishing flavors to mark this as a signature dish. What came masquerading as Thai red Curry turned out to be just a thick coconut milk sauce colored red....no garnish or taste of the typical Thai cuisine. The prawn fried rice bland and insipid minus the garnish of spring onion greens.

We soldiered on but gave up midway drowning our disappointment in glasses of iced tea and lime and water. We had the rest of the meal packed for feeding the canines in our neighborhood. This is a restaurant that we gladly score out from our list and we symbolically shook the dust from our feet as we exited Suonmoi.

One last word. Nowadays even a hole in the wall restaurant is equipped with an electronic cash register machine/ POS system and printer. The near indecipherable bill presented by the staff with no provision for the GST charged is the way chosen by the owners of Suonmoi to barely hide their contempt and lack of respect for customers....thumbing their nose!!

Nice and cosy place to have your food ..food tastes quite nice with temptation to visit it again . Anyone looking for a nice Chinese restaurant can have a visit here you will surely like it .

This is an on and off place. If you're lucky, you'll end up getting good Chinese food, good quantities and quality.I had been here two months back with a small group of friends, and everyone really enjoyed the food and the service. We ordered crispy chicken and honey glazed chicken for starters and triple rice for main course, and they were perfect. Unfortunately, my latest visit here ended up on the wrong side of luck when me and 5 family members visited this place on a Sunday night. They served us extremely small portions, poor in taste and content. Maybe they ran out of stuff, in which case they shouldn't have taken the orders. Hope they are more consistent.

I went to Suonmoi for a dinner on oct 8 2018 bill time 20:40(see payment copy and bill) and this places food made me go through a death facing food poisioning. I was taken to Nearby jhangir hospital on emergency and please see doctors priscription for food poising and tests dates oct 8 and discharge time 21:45. This is an honest feedback intended that restaurant should give hygine and customer health above taste and profits. Dear users please evaluate cautiously. I am also applying for legal help here as well.

I used to love this place, but something is wrong, in my last visit the soup was just bland, on complaining to the owner he just lost it, and created a scene and sent us the bill, don’t go to the place if you value service or taste

If you are fan of Chinese food then you should definitely come here. This place has a simple and nice ambiance. Food here is awesome even veg food. Since I am vegetarian I only tried veg food and was not disappointed. You should really try this restaurant.
Rating: 4/5.

One of my favourite Chinese dining. It has a really simple and cozy ambience and the food steals your heart away.
The chicken momos, the fried chicken wongtons, the prawns butter garlic pepper are just perfect. Their Chicken crispy is an unusual and a must try dish.
If you visit this place, you should, definitely TRY THE CHICKEN CRISPY.
Oh, and what do I write about their Chicken American Chopsuey, it'll steal your heart.
In desserts, do try their brownie. It's delicious.
The place is cozy, with great lighting and faint music and great food at an amazingly reasonable price and quick service. It makes the perfect Chinese dinner location.
DO TRY.

Just 3 words,
This Place Serves Best Chinese.
Damn those are not 3. From this sentence I've been forced by zomato to make the review at least 140 characters long. Order Fish with Mayo, it was tasty.

My favourite Chinese restaurant. I just have to come here whenever I'm in town. It is part of my family tradition. Love the food as well as service.

Yesterday's Iftar was at Suonmoi.

We've been experiencing different cuisines to break my good friends, Insiya, Aziz and Athars fast every evening.
For yesterday's evening siesta, we zeroed in on Suonmoi. A very neat, clean, mildly decored Chinese food joint in the quiet and sophisticated bylanes of Dhole Patil Road.

We ordered soup to begin with. We were a group of 5 and really not in the mood for a lot of soup as we also wants starts and mains and desserts. So we asked them if they could split 2 soups into 5 bowls. They served us two by 4 and have us an empty bowl. We spent quiet a few seconds splitting a lil soup from every bowl into the 5th one... Next time, just do it. Having said that, the soup was nicely hot and yummy.

For starts, my friends ordered chicken spring rolls and one more item while I asked for the Paneer starter. It was very tasty and the Paneer didn't feel dry as I have experienced at other outlets often.

For desserts we got the honey glazed noodles with ice cream..oh yum... I had forgotten that such a thing existed and I would definitely go there again to finish an entire serving just by myself...

If you prefer a quiet meal with family and friends and your choice of cuisine is Chinese, this is a good place to visit.

Thank you Suonmoi for a lovely evening.

My first visit here with friends. Ordered for a chicken hot and sour soup which was thick and well balanced with regards to the spice, portion of chicken and for the price the soup portion was great.

The main course complimented the soup with the portion and quality of food. The large bowl of chicken American Copsuey, chicken fried rice, roasted beef and veg noodles completed the day.

Suonmoi has a pleasant ambience, good staff and an excellent service to make your dining experience worthwhile.

Will definitely come here the next time I'm in Pune.

Sanaya Bokdawala Janet Contractor Jennifer Panthaki Mehmi

I'd forgotten about this place. We had visited years ago. I remember having very good food and the owner was friendly.

Fast forward to the present....

Still great food.
Still same decor.

That's the only fault.
The place needs a makeover, other than that, it's very nice. We went on a Wednesday night and it was full. Being an obscure place off dhole patil road, this speaks volumes about the food.

Total VFM!

No alcohol available, so if you need a drink, too bad.
Go for the food, ignore the decor, booze at home.

A nice oriental outing. Tucked in a quite lane of the boat club area. Very calm area to have restaurant at. The service was decent, could be better with the staff being better trained. The chefs special page has got so much variety to chose from. Being a big group we could try a couple of dishes. The best being the chicken gold coin, a unique starter. The main course was a bit disappointing, made too spicy. Overall a good chinese eatery.

If you are looking for a place serving some great Chinese food this is a must visit place for you. This place serves the best Chinese according to me. I have been here a couple of times and it always stands out with some amazing food .
They have a big soup bowl option in which you can get a big soup bowl for double the price but it is actually worth the money . The Tom kha and manchow soup are one of the best soups I have had . They have many options for starters but I always prefer Chinese over Thai but it is a personal choice . The main course is also very tasty and has a variety of options in rice and noodles .
The deserts are also quite good and tasty . It is a must visit place for everyone .

Visited this place after a long time and I must say the quality of the food has significantly improved. The chicken wontons were fried perfectly and had a pleasant taste. The chicken fried rice as well as the hakka noodles were cooked with the right balance of vegetables, flavor and abundant chicken. One very important factor for me is the way the vegetables are cut in Chinese food, and Suonmoi has done a good job at that. The oyster sauce gravy was delicious and I highly recommend it. The portions are generous. The ambience is pretty nice for a fine dining family restaurant. We went on a Sunday evening, so that is probably why the service was slow. But I would have appreciated more prompt service. Overall I can say that it was a very pleasant experience in terms of quality, quantity and rates.

This is one of our (entire family) Favorite restaurants in the city. We have been getting here for the last 10yrs and have never been disappointed with anything till now. Be it any celebration or any festivals or any guests seeing us, this is the place which comes to our mind. Despite living in the other part of the city (nearly 25km from my house), we still make it very often.
I find the rates very reasonable considering the fact that the ingredients they use are very fresh and superior quality, especially the oil, meat and vegetables. With our countless visits here, None of my family members have ever fallen sick after eating the food. Cleanliness and hygiene are a plus here. The staffs are very courteous and friendly, the same faces I have been seeing since a decade.
My 3yrs old son, who doesn’t eat outside food much except at this place where he enjoys the food to the core.
Coming to the food - Pan fried noodles is a must try for all, by far the best I have had anywhere else.
Our regular orders include the Suonmoi special soup, variants of Meatballs, Crispy Chicken with Mayonnaise and chinese sauces, Phad Thai noodles.
Overall a perfect family restaurant!
(wish there was an option to rate them above 5)
Landed in SUONMOI on a Sunday afternoon . I basically went there looking for authentic Chinese food so the subtle decor didn’t matter to me . The menu has such varied delicacies ,we were confused what to order and which to leave . The SEAFOOD SOUP was simply flavoursome. The meat in the STIR FRIED CHILLY BEEF was so juicy and tender ,u could rip it apart with chopsticks. The open faced PRAWN DUMPLINGs had a pocket of juice inside which burst flavours of joy inside the mouth. The MIXED FRIED RICE was perfectly cooked ,fragrant and had huge chunks of prawn in it. The DUCK HONGKONG could have been very tasty had it been little less greasy.
Wish they had some authentic Chinese items in their dessert menu. We ended up ordering a small pot of CHINESE TEA. A particular note was the tea-set cutlery which had lovely Chinese paintings on it . Overall experience was very pleasant. Definitely coming here again to try their THAI menu .

Love the food here. One of the few places in Pune you can't go wrong with. Good Chinese food with honest prices. Definitely will be visiting again!

Must try : Honey Noodles Icecream.

This is my go-to place for Chinese food! It's been more than just a couple of years now, and I've NEVER had a bad experience here. The owner himself will make sure you're comfortable and will help you out with deciding what to order 🙂 This place is sure to give you value for money. Must try!

Nice food quality. lights and service is also good. They serve food in 10 min and food quantity is also good. Parking place
And food is not costly

One of the tastiest Chinese versions that you get to have around, in Pune. They serve delicious Chinese food which is neither too hot, nor too bland for the Indian taste buds. Extremely reasonably priced, and sumptuous proportions. Always easy to find a table here.

We ordered Wonton Stew, a prawn starter, path rice, Chicken Mongolian, Veg triple Manchurian etc..

Must try their honey fried noodle ice cream. Although on this particular visit, we tried the litchi ice cream

One of the most amazing Chinese Restaurants I have had food in! The Chicken Noodle Soup and Chicken - Tofu Soup are good, the starters are simply too good! Open Chicken Open top Dim sum, Chicken Spring Roll, Garlic Fish, Chief's Special Crunchy chicken and for main course Manchurian noodles is great!
One day while I craved for some good chinese food, but did not wanted to try a place I haven’t been before. While searching on Zomato, I came across Suonmoi at Dhole Patil Road. It’s a very silent looking place on a silent lane. Its so silent that when I stood in front of the restaurant, I thought I should go to some other place. But then since I was already here, I thought I should give it a try. When I entered to my surprise, the place was full with families.

I started my meal with Chicken Manchow soup and Drums of Heaven. The Manchow soup served here is clear (without any soya sauce and other sauces) as compared to the other eatouts. The drums of heaven also was a crispy tasty dish. Then I went for Spicy fried Prawns, which was with a slight spiced masala. It even had a tadka of dried red chillies which gave it an Indian touch. I also asked for Crunchy Chicken. I really expected a crispy dish to be laid infront of me. But it was a thick soya sauce gravied dish. But when I tasted it, it really was a treat to my taste buds. Crunchy fried chicken tossed in the thick gravy with pieces of ginger garlic was a perfect combination.

I was wanting to try some more dishes here but had to rush to a friend. Surely a great place to try some good chinese.

We went to sunmoi for lunch
Ordered their special chicken soup
Chicken Hakka style as a starter and
Yung chow fried rice ..
Each and every dishes were very good in taste and the service was also very fast . We always prefer this Chinese Cuisine whenever we go to Dhole Patil Road. The ambience and the interior is simple but attractive. The all staff is very polite, prompt and soft spoken. There are lots of options in Starter,Soups and Main Course. Overall nice experience always.

Some select recipes are good- I recommend the satay and tom yum. However some are absolutely disastrous- we ordered the hot garlic noodles and instead recieved 1 pound of pure sugar. It was just too sweet, ironic as it's called hot garlic! Servers argued with us saying they told us but they really didn't. However in previous visits we didn't have this problem. An okay place and good prices.

Visited Suonmoi with my wife. The location is very quiet and outer ambience is perfect!
We ordered:
Sweet corn chicken soup 🌽 🐔
Crunchy chicken with mayonnaise (DELICIOUS)
Triple schezuan chicken (OK OK)

I was very disappointed that the waiters just serve for the first serving and then stop catering to their tables. Instead are found gossiping amongst themselves.
I tried to indicate to one waiter that I had difficulty serving myself with triple schezuan, but their was no attention given.

Other than this, the place is almost always full and the food served is lovely.

P.S:- Was really disappointed with their waiters serving me and so lost track of taking a picture of the triple schezuan 😔
Being one of Pune's legendary Chinese joints, Sunmoi is know for setting the bar real high, however my recent visit left me a bit disappointed. We decided visit Sunmoi for a family lunch for eight. We stuck to the usual dishes one would normally order at a Chinese restaurant (Indian Chinese) as you couldn't possibly go wrong with that, right? Some of us started with soups. We ordered the chicken lung fung soup and a prawn Tom yum soup. Both of them were pretty decent, however the Tom yum was overloaded with coriander and I'm just not a big fan. Next we decided to go for veg and non veg spring rolls, which were pretty tasteless and bland. What really pissed me off was that they served us spring rolls with ketchup!! Anyways we asked for schezwan sauce and continued. Now for the main course we ordered the standard fried rice and Hakka noodles along with schezwan chilli chicken and vegetables Manchurian. Now you can't really go wrong with Fried rice, hakka noodles and Manchurian and thank god they didn't. However there was nothing special about it, which is still absolutely fine. The schezwan chilli chicken on the other hand had a really tasty gravy, and I was quite happy with it until I bit into a piece of chicken. Frying the chicken pieces and keeping them ready to add to any dish is expected from all chinese restaurants, now while this might not allow the flavour of the gravy to seep into the chicken, most places still manage to do a decent job. The chicken at Sunmoi on the other hand was by far the worst chicken I've had. It didn't just lack flavour, it had none. The problem I feel is that they fry the chicken without even seasoning it with some salt and pepper. The result - An extremely tasty gravy with tasteless pieces of chicken. It was so bad I actually preferred the veg Manchurian (Please keep in mind that I'm a dedicated meat eater that eat non veg food about 4 times a day). I request the owner to seriously look into the management of Sunmoi and work towards restoring it's old charm.

A quiet chinese restaurant in boat club road.
Service 5/5
Ambiance 3.5/5 (tiles are not appropriate)
Food 4.5/5
Pricing 3/5

We had prawn fried rice
Prawn noodles
Prawn oyster curry
Chicken manchurian

The taste distinctly stood out sans the unnecessary spices. None of the dishes had spices. That made me happy. I enjoyed the flavours of each dish. This is a perfect date place.

The ambiance is good. The service is quick. The food is great. We requested that they serve non spicy, bland, boiled choice of vegetables with plain rice for the kids and the chef made it, which my niece enjoyed. We had a lovely time and dinner. I love the chicken pan fried noodles. It has two variations , spicy red sauce is my favourite and a must try. Chicken triple schezwan fried rice , manchaow chicken soup, chicken Tom yum soup, Thai basil chicken, chicken spring roll all are nice. Value for money.

Suonmoi, a seemingly quaint little place on Boat Club Road. Don't let the looks decieve you as the place I side is quite large. Decor was simple with a lot of Chinese decorations and colors.
The manager welcomed us warmly and took us to our table.
Iv always wanted to have the soup with chicken veggies and noodles and was wondering if they would serve an authentic affair.
The manager very enthusiasticically answered yes.
So my brother and I ordered a chicken noodle soup, triple sechwan rice, Kai Yang - Thai chicken starter.
The soup and rice came first. The rice was very nicely flavoured and the quantity impressive.
The chicken soup was exactly as I was looking forward to and would have tasted amazing with a few shards of ginger.
The star of the evening was the Kai Yang. It was absolutely well cooked. Amazing flavor and the chicken as soft as butter. Every morsel was worth it.
I, as per habit ordered a salt lemon soda and I must commend on the right amount of salt and lemon absolutely delicious.
We decided to top it with some apricot ice cream. Now this something they could done a little something with. Instead of Vanilla a different flavour of ice cream would do good. Also the combination of apricots with honey would have served the purpose had the ice cream been topped with this condition rather than vice versa.
Overall I would say a place worth visiting and I am definitely going there for seconds.
Cheerios happy eating....

I got an opportunity to visit this place last week along with few family friends. My friend recommended this place as he had been there quite a few times.
Ambiance - The ambiance is nice and cosy with ample light on contrary to many Chinese restaurants which prefer to have dim light. Would rate it 8/10.
Service - Staff is really helpful and curtious. The manager himself helped us with making the selection for our starters and main course. The service is this place is really quick. Food ordered was served piping hot within minutes. Rating 10/10.
Food - We ordered chicken sweet corn soup and a veg hot and sour soup. Really appreciated the taste of the veg soup. My wife relished the chicken sweet corn soup too.
Starters - Prawns in hot garlic sauce, chicken in black bean sauce and veg spring rolls. Everything was just perfect with correct spice levels. Enjoyed it.
Main course - Egg fried rice, Burnt garlic noodles (veg), Vegetables in hot garlic sauce, Hong Kong style chicken and Prawns in Oyster sauce. Would really like to mention that both vegetarian and meat dishes were really made nicely. I have been to some restaurants where one dish does not compliment the other. Here the flavours of each dish though different, complimented each other. I would really like to thank all the chefs doing a great job. Rating - 10/10 hands down.
Overall Rating - 9.5/10. 😀

I had heard about this place from a lot of my friends, but got a chance to visit recently. A very sober set up with prompt service and superb quality of food. We ordered, non veg mixed fried rice, roast chilli chicken and date pancake ice cream. Trust me the quantity, quality and presentation was 10/10. We were two of us and the portions were enough and easy on pocket. (Missed beer terribly ;) ) We also keep ordering chilly chicken starters on our boring lunch days at office :)
Over all a must visit place.

The perfection of taste, presentation and service of the chinese food served here is appreciated. The service is excellent as well along with the food quality.

The food here is really good and reasonably priced, so that checks off two boxes for me. Add to that a friendly owner and staff, and you have a wonderful place to go to for a nice meal. The restaurant has a homely feel to it, with retro music always playing in the background (at least that's been the case every time I've been there!). One of my favourite things to eat is the Suonmoi chop suey.
Aliyya96
extremely delicious food and very welcoming & wonderful staff along with decent atmosphere!
all in all great experience, highly recommended, this makes it my favourite.

I simply love the authentic Chinese food these people serve. Friendly staff and they also make Jain Chinese which taste awesome! I rarely know restaurant which cater to the food specifications. I love the Triple manchurian and Manchow soup here! Super quick service and love the salad too!

It took me a while to find this place but once I was in I could feel the aroma of Oriental food wafting through the air. The decor is very simple with Chinese artefacts. The place is spacious and the seating is comfortable. The service is swift. This place serves the best crab soup in Pune. The chicken fried rice was yummy. The Mongolian fish was delicious. The white snapper fish was very fresh. The dim sums could have been better though. If you like authentic Chinese food, you must visit this place. Next time I am going to try the honey glazed chicken. The icing on the cake is this place is moderately priced and you absolutely get a bang for your buck.
Suhrid Barua
Suonmoi really lives up to the expectations, in terms of quality. Only thing is prices are slightly on the higher side. Notwithstanding the prices, it's a place worth trying!

Best crab soup in town. Came here on a recommendation and it was way better than anything we expected.
The prawn spring rolls are also delicious.
They do not compromise on quantity and quality is great.

I had been wanting to try this place for sometime and it did not disappoint. The menu offers a lot to choose from and they have got the pricing right. Although the ambience is average but what it lacks in ambience it makes up in food quality. The staff is courteous and will help in suggesting dish of the day. We had the tom yum soup, spicy prawns something mongolian that the manager suggested. In process of planning next visit soon :)

I have been to this place many times, but reviewing it now... The tom kha and manchow soup was perfect and tasty... The chicken wonton was crisp and filling,.. the Mongolian rice and chicken manchurian was nice but the rice was a bit spicy and pungent... the honey noodles and ice cream was also good... The quantity of the portions was good and worth the price... I must say it's been ages since this place is here and the quality is still the same... Keep it up 👍

The best chinese restaurant in pune !
Good as well for thaï food ! The quality and taste of food is really great, and the waiters give good advices, according to your taste... Simple and nice atmosphere to hang up with family, they serve good portion and the rice is good.
If you want to taste a real chinese food, you need to go... If you're looking for another "indian chinese" place, with all the food super spicy and without taste, better going to some other place.

Yummy chinese food almost similar with original taste , our favourite are crab soup and prawn on toast . Must visit place , reasonable price for such a service and quality of food .

Sunmoi is old school, hasn't changed a bit in years. Might not be fancy or at the level of Chinese room in taste but whatever said and done, you wont regret visiting or even home delivering. They food comes out tasty and super fast. Everytime I visit a friend at boat club road our starters (dumplings) are ordered from here. within 10 mins they are knocking at your door and the food does not disappoint. When you go there to eat, it's always full as it's the go to place for Chinese to anyone who lives in their vicinity. Mains are tasty and of good quantity and its actually pocket friendly, which is surprising with their quality.

If one is an Authentic Chinese lover I would surely suggest this place..non veg is perfect somehow Veg wasn't up to the mark, ambience has nothing much to talk about it is just as common as any other Chinese restaurants..they put up some Chinese music which rarely could grab ones attention on.

Finally would like to mention my today's experience the service is extremely or we can say more then extremely slow 45 mins they took to serve just starters and that's how my hunger was already vanished waiting for the same..

Need to in lmprove in service delivery.

Suonmoi is a great place for chinese food with an equally good ambience. You can go there with a partner, friends or family & u wont be disappointed.
The staff & the owner Mr Sayyed are pretty warm hosts.
Have tried this place end number of times as it is in my neighbourhood so we either dine in or mostly get food delivered.

MUST TRY items include chicken in BABA sauce as they call it (not on the menu), this one is addictive, others include chicken lemon coriander soup, spinach chicken, triple Hot garlic/manchurian/ szechwan combinations, chop suey and many more on the menu.

A decent place to have your chinese cravings fulfilled.

I really enjoyed the experience here. It's a typical Chinese joint like the places in South Africa. I thought this was a tad dirty. Ambience was good. The service was great. The food was the star of the experience as it should be in any restaurant. I loved everything! From the soups to the the main course and the delicious desserts! If you ever in the area you have to enjoy a dinner here.

Gotta try the duck!! Really good Chinese food and also worth the cost. Great service. Good hygiene. I would prefer it over mainland china...

I live a street across from Sunmoi but had the good fortune of visiting them few days back on the recommendation of my friend Akash, an old timer here. Though I won't rate the ambience(music/interiors/attendants, mostly) and the seating at par with a truly Asian experience but to my surprise they do have a menu that is actually very well written by standards of pan-asian restaurants in Pune (have a look) which gives you an inkling even before ordering that there is someone who knows his/her food behind Sunmoi. Though a Thai/Malay/Burmese aficionado, I settled for their Combo/Triple Schezwan and this is definitely a veritable Indian Chinese dish that Sunmoi has created that would tingle the taste buds of folks used to the great Indian Chinese street-food (momo's, chopsuey etc.).We also went for a quick Tom Kha and though the soup was a tad thicker than what I'm used to, it had all the tell tale sight and sound for a coconut milk based soup - hint of lemongrass, galangal and generous bits of chicken and mushrooms. Sunmoi makes up with good food what some other asian restaurants might make up with ambience. But then, you can't fill yourself up with ambience, right?

PS: Ila's "popular" review below can be safely ignored, it amounts to absolutely nothing

I must say this place has certain delight quotient to it. Its true tat very few of them have done it right when it comes to authentic Chinese food. And cheers to Suonmoi, they have nailed it.
Lovely food. Lovely service. Beautifully presented. I am happy i found u. Lolzz....

One of my All time favorite Chinese places. I like the quiet ambience from the hustle and bustle around. Flavour are soo good. Baby corn in hot garlic is my favorite and soups are good. If you have a bend towards a little spicy food then this place is a must else for the ones having somber taste buds it can be a missed.
Hrishikesh Kore
I expected more. Its the kind of place that with a few tweaks could be way better.
The ambience isn't really to complain about. Decent seating with some good music.
Let's get to the point. The food. They went easy on the salt and that impacted the overall punch of all the dishes. I'd say all the dishes just failed to pack a punch of flavour. Not saying it tasted bad but its like the Manchow soup was a few Soy sauce drops away from perfection and this goes for all dishes. It is not too much to expect for the price. Especially when compared to other Chinese restaurants of the same level.
P.S. ingredients were as fresh as new. That's one big big thumbs up.

Suonmoi is literally my go to Chinese restaurant. I have eaten there umpteen times over the last many years but what urged me to finally write this review is a meal I ordered from there a few days ago. What I would recommend:

Crispy Spinach Chicken - Love love the spinach!!!! They have two sauces for the chicken sweet (red) and hot (brown). I love both.

Crab Meat Soup and Seafood Soup - Both come with generous amounts of meat. Sumptuous!

Meefon Noodles (thin rice noodles): I have eaten the chicken and vegetarian variety. Both are amazing.

Pan Fried Noodle: These have absolute zero spice (some may find bland) but very flavourful and comes with so many healthy veggies like broccoli, carrots, bell peppers etc.. Warm and comforting..

Roast Chicken Honey Glaze: As the name suggests roasted chicken in a very runny sweet sauce and lots of sesame seeds. I usually eat this with the rice noodles. Sometimes the chicken is a little dry so I would suggest mentioning that you want to chicken nice and juicy while placing the order.

Beef Momo's - so flavourful and the sauce that comes with this is divine (dark sauce with coriander ? Make sure you get this sauce)

And my favourite Fish Mayo. This isn't on the menu but a must try! Do not miss this one! They also have this other fish which is not on the menu but is very good too. Unfortunately can't recall the name.

I have also tried the Peking Duck here but would suggest to give that a miss.

The restaurant itself is neat and clean and the owner is very courteous and helpful. Absolutely worth visiting.

Edit - Red Thai Curry (Chicken and Prawn) with steamed rice and Beef Masaman Curry (don't order both together as they are similar in flavour). Also try the Fish in Green Sauce (dry) for starters.

Now this is one of the best Chinese / Thai restaurants in Pune. With a variety to choose from, this place serves you amazing food, has a good ambiance and great service.

If you are keen on eating something different, just approach the very kind owner and he will be happy to cook up something different and yum!!

The must have in this restaurant is the peaking duck and honey glazed duck.
Thai food is also a part of their menu and they make the most amazing Thai red curry!! Another must try.

Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Pune. Their food is amazing, and they have a lot of options. The black pepper chicken and the chicken in black bean sauce are my favourite. Their service is quick, ambience is great and the start is extremely friendly and attentive.

I have visited this place thrice, around a year and a half ago, (I dunno if things have changed three) and all three times we has the same experience. The ratio of the price of the dish to the quantity they serve is high. I will never say that they do not do justice to flavour, but then sometimes you have to be a little practical wrt quantity and pricing. It's not that the ambience is so freaking awesome or anything either. There are many places that serve u good authentic pocket friendly Chinese, Japanese etc. So I don't think this place is repeatable. But I guess it's worth a one time visit.
