I visited the place for having solapuri seekh kebab. With it, I did try Solapuri mutton gravy and also baby surmai rawa fry.
Food taste, quality and quantity was great.
If you are a meat lover, should try the solapuri seekh kebab (bokad option). They serve both bolai and bokad mutton options.
Just one suggestion to owner, the kebabs will taste even better if slow cooked for 5 min more.
They serve fresh fish, which suits there theme of hotel 'Masa', the taste of baby surmai fry was really great.
The ambience of place is good and spacious. Place is good to visit with family and friends. Overall place is hygienic and carries lot of good vibes.
One of the important aspects, Staff - they are polite and had very good approach towards guests. You may order more than you had planned too.

Amazing sea food.
Before I have taken only one Fish curry and rice as a parcel from old maasa restaurant In mundhwa. Now I visited to new restaurant in kharadi.
It was a great experience. Food was amazing in taste superb service.
I like the way they served us, they have a combination of taste and style now which is great.
Each and every dish was amazing even burger was too good.

I visited Maasa Vahh Puneri Restaurant, Mundhwa, over the weekend with my family and we had a great time. The restaurant specializes in authentic cuisine, with a focus on sea food, chicken and mutton dishes. The restaurant interior is spacious, refreshing and elegant. The restaurant was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
We ordered a variety of dishes, including chicken banjara masala, Mutton sukha, bhakri, and Biryani . The food arrived quickly and was served hot and fresh. The chicken was tender and juicy, with a nice creamy gravy flavor. The mutton sukha was spicy and rich, with a generous amount of minced meat along with soft and flaky flavorful bhakari. The Biryani was mouth watering and delicious.
The portion sizes were adequate and the prices were reasonable.
Overall, we enjoyed my dining experience at Maasa - Vahh Puneri Restaurant, Mundhwa, and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Puneri food. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, service, and food quality, and it is a good place to enjoy a hearty meal with your loved ones.

Fish lovers this is for you guys…
Fish happens to be universal, tasty, healthy and can be prepared with variety. But choices hardly available in Pune.
Have you heard of Fish bao, fish crispy, fish wraps??
Heard of fish fingers made with rawas/ surmai?
Its your Saturday/party night and restaurants have limited options in fish starters, you land up ordering Tandoori or koliwada fry.
Rates are steep and you start to scan other options.
No one is giving boneless fish.. except basa fish
I was recently invited to Maasa Lite, located in Kharadi. At Maasa Lite food you get is “Fusion with a global twist”.
A simple ambiance with open air seating. Menu is extensive. Offers Vegetarian, non vegetarian( fish & chicken). Rane Shinde -owner cum lady behind this concept knows how to make a customer happy with freshly made - Using variety of fishes and traditional with her innovations .
Massa Lite also means Lite on oil (lesser calories ) & pocket friendly (prices)
We started with #Solkadhi which was thick, refreshing cool and made in-house
We tried
#Peri_Peri_ Chicken _wings which were delicious and crispy.
#Rawas_ Fish _fingers – really made a huge difference . . Rawas made it way tastier and the coating was perfectly spiced. #highlyrecommended
Equally good were the Surmai ones. Served with mayonnaise.
#Surmai_Tawa Fry / Bangda Tawa were coated with red paste, flavourful and shallow fried. #superb
#Prawn_Koliwada/Rawas Koliwada boneless were crazy delicious. Loved the spicy coriander mint chutney. Not oily
#Patr_ni_Maach (Pomfret/Surmai- Steamed in banana leaf, moist and yummy. Quite similar to the Parsi version however it was more Indianised.
#Crab_Curry with Rice – classic recipe, great texture and delectable. Konkani /costal style with coconut milk.
#Chicken_Crispy/ Prawns Crispy – finger licking good like MacDonalds. Loved it #musthave
#Chicken_Makhani_Roll – a huge role. Homogeneous, moderate spicy and very filling. One is enough, goes well with a Solkadi.
#Fish_Bao – Crispy boneless surmai patties with greens, mayo and condiments. A sizeable portion. Bao can be improved as its made in-house. Otherwise Wow factor 👏
They also offer traditional foods….
Sodhe Baat
Boneless Chicken Biryani
Dry Bombil Chutney and
Sukat Chutney
As Al a carte or meal combo. Found everything freshly made, of like able taste. Met expectations.
Do give it a try, thank me later. Check out the pictures

I went here on 31st Dec @2:30 pm with a friend when the restaurant was 90% empty. We were super hungry so immediately sat down to order.
The waiter came and asked us to shift to another section inspite of just one group sitting in so called "Family section" of restaurant.
We asked why and then another person said let them eat.

Few moments later, another waiter came and asked us to shift irrespective of whatever. We asked them what's the issue with us sitting there inspite of
1. Restaurant being empty
2. Alcohol not being served
3. We not creating any voilence or trouble

We then left the place and went to Genuine Broaster Chicken in Amnora mall and trust me that was the best decision ever. Great food, great service, quick delivery.

I agree that family section is to be visited when you have a female in your group but after reading our situtaion above am sure you guys will take an informed decision before visiting here. The people in service industry have to be dynamic and hospitable to be least to start with if not anything else.

Let me start off by saying I never ever liked bombil fry...even if it was made at home. BUT, ever since I’ve had it here, bombil now seems to be one of my favourite. A very very very good place for Maratha style seafood, worth every rupee. The timing was quick as well...food was served on our table in no time. A total paisa vasool in terms of taste, quality and quantity!

Let me tell you about how warm and hospitable the staff is. We were greeted so warmly by the manager Captain Godke who’s suggestions were very helpful in getting us to choose the right dinner.

The other two people attending to us were Mr. Rahul Kumar and Mr. Laxman Ram. Two very smiling faces who made us feel right at home. Mr. Laxman always has a smile on his face even when we had to cancel a last minute order. They all serve you with big smiles.

The ambience is also very comfortable and warm with dim enough lights to give you a cozy feeling while the red brick stone wall give you a Konkan-Goa feeling.

This place is a must go!

Staff - 4/5 : very friendly and quick.
Ambiance - 2.5/5 : could be improved but we went during lunch time so it was dull overall.
Food - 3/5 : sea food is good but apart from that needs improvements..

Good for a one time visit..and can b improved in some areas 😊

Fish lover out there this place is for you..
I have heard no. of time from my friends about this place and last week I got chance to visit his place.
Authentic food, perfect fish and all on chulha is best.
We ordered platter as we were in group and want to try all types of fish.
Then afterward we ordered fish thali

One thing which I am little upset is the 'curry' and spices used for 'Rassa'. It doesn't have punch part. Being a food blogger, I felt it can be improved.

Rest all sol-kadhi and add on are perfectly cooked, served and tastes best.

Good food
Worth visiting
Satisfactory quantity
Best quality
Value for money

Being a die hard fan of Maharashtrian cuisine, on a yet another food hunt weekend, I went to this secluded Maharashtrian resturant situated in Mundhwa- Hadapsar station road.
Constructed in redstone gave it a very rustic and village look.
Ordered Bombay duck fry and Prawns curry.
Bombay duck fry - The masalas dint quite hit me!
It was very bland. The punch was missing. The quantity was less keeping in mind that the fish was less fleshy and more skeletal.
Prawns curry - Average, nothing spectacular. Expected it to be more authentic. The Prawns itself dint felt fresh. Small in size and less in quantity.

Overall not so satisfied..
Hit and miss for me... 😐

Excellent place for Maharashtrian style food especially their FISH . Tried Tawa fried Pomfret & Surmai, really excellent & so was the Maharashtrian Chicken Handi. The ambience of the place by no means fancy but comfortable and the rates are reasonable. Service is good too
A place for nice & sumptuous meal !

My friends recommended this place as they had been here earlier. I was disappointed with the surmai rava as it wasn't spiced well and was very bland. The mutton and chicken thali we ordered was also average. I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't tasty. Since my friends had been here earlier, they noticed that the quality of food had dropped. The staff is polite and quick with their service. I do hope that we have a good experience next time.

Ordered River Fish Thali. Fish masala was tasty. Prawns were amazing. Curry was too watery. Rice was less cooked. Overall the thali was nice.

As the name 'Maasa', (fish in marathi) this place is perfectly made for seafood lovers. If you are looking for authentic maharashtrian seafood or non-veg options near koregaon park must try this. Located near bashos. Must try Bangada tandoor fry as a starter and Surmai&pomfret thali. They changed their ambience to next level after renovation. Perfect place for families, couples and groups.

A Fish Speciality as The Name Says "MAASA"(Fish in Marathi).
A wonderful concept brought by ex military person Capt.Prasad Shinde.
A place of hoggers paradise and I bet your mission will not be accomplished in one visit.
The types of fishes and varieties of gravies offered here are mind blowing.
Do not miss the NACHANI PAPAD.
POMFRET, KINGFISH, MACKAREL, BOMBAY DUCK, CLAMS, PRAWNS, SQUIDS, KALAMARI, LOBSTERS,ETC.
I tried their special fish thali which had variety of three gravies and all tasted different and tasty. The thali had a choice of fish curry for pomfret and kingfish. The fish fry had a choice of deep rava fry or a masala fry. Indian bread variety were chapati and bhakri( rice, jwari, bajri).
The ambience takes you to kokan and south goa. All Seatings are indoors. The place is airy and coolers are put up to beat the heat.

Food 5*
Ambience 4*
Service 4*
Value For Money 4*

The place for seafood lovers! A must must visit. Do try the tandoori fishes, if you are a tandoor fan, they are yummy. A real good variety of seafood in the Menu. Thali options are good with good portion at nominal rates. Very polite servers and quick service with complete ettiquettes. The only thing which I found missing was AC section to save yourself from summers and mosquitoes.

Maasa
We had planned a family gathering over dinner. Our guest suggested we should visit Maasa, a place in Mundwa known for its fish dishes. It was a little difficult to find as the GPS took us to a different lane. Finally we reached the place. Simple place with minimal or for say No interiors.
This place is known for its sea food and so we were all eager to order. We started with Bombil Rawa Fry, Clams Tawa Fry and Surmai Chatpata. The bombil rawa fry was non spicy rawa coated crispy Bombay duck pieces. The Clams Tawa Fry was a super spicy dish. They were half shelled clams in a coconut based thick masala. This dish was very spicy but I should say it was delicious. We also asked for Sol Kadi which was up to the mark too, just like the ones I tasted along the konkan coast.
Next we asked for Pomfret Tandoori and Prawns Matka kebab. The Pomfret was well cooked but there was a little excess salt in the marinade. The Prawns Matka Kebab were again non spicy but very tasty. Cooked in a small earthen matka and served in the same this was a white masala based starter, got over in minutes.
While some preferred to have a Veg biryani while others and me opted for some Goan Fish Curry with steamed rice. The biryani was good but not great. The Fish Curry Rice on the other hand was good but the curry lacked the Goan touch. The curry was very spicy and with a strong flavour against the authentic goan curry. We had steamed rice along with it. The biryani was good. As we we had 4 kids with us, the captain gave mini bowls of nutella complimentary.
Overall a good place but definitely needs to look towards get the taste more closer to authentic taste.

Excellent quality sea food is served here. Ordered Bombil rawa fry and prawns masala both were extremely good. My friend ordered chicken thali it was also tasty. Solkadhi is also very good. Ambience is also decent. Also they have Separate section for family. Overall had a very good experience. Enjoyed very much.

We ordered a full tandoori chicken and surmai tawa fry from Maasa last night. While the food quality was fine, the issue was with the food order. Instead of a full tandoori chicken, that we payed for, they only sent us half. To top it up the food was also late by 20 mins, even though this place is literally 10 mins away from my house. If there is anything more disappointing than a late delivery, it’s an incomplete order. Guys you need to do better.

This was a nice, small cosy place serving great food with good service. Had lunch today with my wife - our first visit after the renovation. The place has a complete make over but still maintains the rustic look. The larger capacity & renovated indoors was great to see. Was happy to see what was probably a larger variety on the menu. Unfortunately, the good things ended there. We ordered solekadi, bombil fry, tawa fish & gawti chicken curry together with Jowar Bakris. The solekadi was watery, the mint chutney with coconut was rancid & was returned, the bombil was ok. We asked for main course to be brought together but got the Bakri & fish with the chicken coming a good 15 mins later. So it was cold Bakri with a terribly watery chicken curry which was anything but gawti. There was not a single decent piece of chicken& mostly bone! Overall disappointing experience.

This place use to be good a year and half back and moneys worth for the food that were served along with good quality and the right price. But now after this place is renovated the price of the food; no matter what you order is not money’s worth. It is so high priced and the food served is not great and quantity n quality is very low. I will never recommend anyone to go there. I for sure will never visit this place again:

Maasa gets an additional star after the much needed facelift. The place is much better looking now. Nestled in Mindhwa, Maasa is the go to place for some amazing thalis. Being in our vicinity, we are regulars, well, fairly regular.
While NV eaters can have a ball of a time with the amount of options they have, Vegetarians like me have to choose from very few.
The food here is goooood. Watch the moushi making fresh jawar bhakri, the old school way, is just so soothing.
I went with a friend and we both had 2 different types of Veg thali. They were decently good. I've had better thalis at other places, but Maasa is in its own league.

What bugged me though was that I was approached by 3 staff members who insisted that I sit in the family section as I was with a girl... I don't know why they insisted...
I had to be a lil rude to the 3rd guy for them to stop bugging us. I am sure they had their reasons. But we were comfortable where we were.
We keep going there so that's not a problem. :)

one of best places near magarpatta and kharadi for FISH lovers. (Konkani/Goan preparation)

Food - 4 out of 5
Fish was fresh. Order surmai rawa fry, prawns thali, pomfret thali
Thali was filling. Jowar bhakri was hot and soft.
Sol kadi was good. Surmai fry could have been more spicy. Visit Day Date and Time:- Tuesday 15-January-19, 14.00 p.m.

“Maasa” a hidden gem which is located away from the busy streets of Mundhwa, Pune.

Recently during my Pune trip I happened to visited this place for lunch with my brother, who actually recommended this place.

Ambience:- This place is spacious and has three different sitting section with basic and simple ambience.

Menu:- It offers a lot of options for the non-vegetarians and few for vegetarians. Overall it’s non-vegetarians paradise.

We started off our meal with Crab Meat Soup, which was served hot and was mildly flavoured.

Bombil Masala Fry, it’s one of my favourite fish and love to try it at every sea food restaurant. Bombil was marinated in masala and fried which was fried to perfection to maintain its softness.

Pomfret Thali, which includes full pomfret Fry, two different fish curry, sol kadi, sukat chutney, rice, two bhakri/chapati. It’s complete meal for one person. Fish was fresh and well fried and cooked too.

Gavran Chicken Thali, which includes Chicken Fry, Chicken Curry, Egg Curry, Rice, two Bhakri/Chapati and Curd Onion. This thali is my favourite one from the menu. Chicken curry was spicy and flavourful which is totally value for money. It’s must have from the menu.

Sukat Chutney, it’s basically dry prawns preparation. Tasty and went well with bhakri.

✔️Recommendations:- Pomfret Thali and Gavran Chicken Thali

Service:- Good.

Experience:- Overall it was lip-smacking experience and must visit place for the non-vegetarians foodies. Surely going to visit the place on my next visit to pune.

Note:- Visit to this place was on own and review is based on personal experience.

Really happy with the visit to Maasa, truely a hidden Gem. The place is tucked in a lane in Mundwa making it a bit hard to find. But as you enter, the place has a warm feel to it
The servers are really helpful and courteous guiding us to pick up the best options from the menu.
The Food we ordered was Basa dum kebab for starters; absolutely succulent and extremely appetizing
Followed by Mutton thali which was good quantity and each dish on the thali cooked to perfection. Bombil chutney: spicy and tangy just the way it should be.
For dessert we had moong halwa as suggested by the server which was the perfect end to a perfect dinner!

We stumbled upon this place searching for a decent place to have lunch on a Sunday afternoon.
The place is inside one of the lanes away from the hustle bustle of the main road, peaceful and beautiful. The place oozes cool on a sunny day, and is well lit and minimally decorated to allow air and sunlight to come through. It gave me the feel of a restaurant near the beach!
The food was great! We had Thalis - Surmai, Pomfret, Prawns! All the three dishes were amazing and we finished everybit. The Pomfret could have been cooked a little more though.
Initially when the rice was served we noticed that it was too soft almost like a paste, but the waiter convinced us that this rice is cooked this way!
I've had rice in so many places, except for sticky rice I've never heard anyone say that Indrayni rice needs to be cooked like a paste. Anyways we had it that way, the taste is good except for the texture off course.
The one thing that disappointed us was the kokam juice - it was way too salty! They staff was very understanding though and when we told about the saltiness they removed the item from the bill.
The rates are very reasonable too. Overall we enjoyed our meal to the fullest and would love to go again to try the other fish items in the menu.

Maasa is veg/non veg restaurant mostly for fish lovers. You can get all the type of fish thalis as well as starters on fish there. We ordered rohu fish thali which according to my wife was great but pithal bhakari thali which I felt was average in taste. If you love fish then you should visit this place and can enjoy pocket friendly meal here.
Ambience of Maasa is specious and very comfortable. Service is very good, you can also even order on phone and get your thali ready by reaching to the restaurant. Maasa needs bit improvement in taste of pithal and also can add bharit in the thali to balance the taste.
Ambience : 4*
Service : 4*
Fish thalis: 4*
Veg thali: 3*
Overall : 4*
Loved this place. The food was authentic and fresh ingredients made it really awesome. Tried the masala crab n just fell in love with it. Even the namak haldi tandoori prawns were worthy of mention. Thalis were good for the price but most of all getting hearty seafood in Pune at such reasonable price won over my heart! Thanks Maasa!

Have heard about the place. Specifically for fish. So wanted to give it a try. I ordered surmai fish thali.
Surmai rawa fry was good. Maharsthrian style gravy was great. Malavani style gravy was ok. Can be improved. Rice was good. Bhakari was better than what is offered in nearby area. Solkadhi was also ok. Need to make it little more tasty and refreshing. Should be served cold.
Cost is little bit at higher side considering the taste and quantity. I once ordered a home delivery on weekend. It was a little late. Should let zomato handle the delivery of parcel.

It's a cosy little place in mundhwa and looks a little rustic.Craving for some sea food bought us here. This place offers wide range of fish dishes which is the speciality. The crab curry is on point with a blend of flavours. The prawns rava fry is a must eat.The pomfret thali served with the solkadi is just delicious.

When I visited this place in 2016 it was quite small restaurant and they served tasty food and quantity was more than enough but when I visited it changed a lot new building, new interiors but reduced quantity and food taste remains still same.

But the single star is for billing they did charge 30 for 12 rs(sprite 200ml) coldrink and over that they added GST on it.

Being a fish lover I wanted to try out the fish preparations at Maasa. Located in Mundhwa away from the noisy traffic, it is nicely set up with mild interiors. The look emanates a cool feeling on a sunny day. The seating is comfortable and roomy. I went there particularly to try out Surmai and Prawns, so me and my partner ordered Surmai fish thali and Prawn thali. However, there are so many options for all the fish lovers that I have to make another visit soon.
The thalis consisted of these common items : Maharashtrian style gravy, Malwani style curry, Sukat or dry fish chutney, Sol kadhi, Bhakri and Rice. The Surmai fish tawa fry was delicious. Surmai being a sea fish has a unique flavour and I loved it. The Prawn tawa fry was done spicy but delicious. The Maharashtrian style gravy had 2 pieces of fish and prawns too. The Sukat was also flavorful. The Sol kadhi was sort of after meal which was quite refreshing indeed.
Overall I liked all of the items in the thali. However it could be more enjoyable if it had side dishes in the form of vegetables. The gravies can also be definitely improved.
Do check out my pics here and also follow my food journey in Instagram: @midafoodtrails.
Wanted to visit this place since a long time. Finally visited it for dinner. It's in a secluded kinda area so no traffic rush, parking available.
Ambience was good. We were in the family section. It was very serene, peaceful and I think ambience was what I loved most about this place than food ☹️
Staff was cordial, polite, and patient. Am not sure if he was the manager or owner,he came over while ordering every time to offer suggestions and seek feedback. He suggested we go for a la carte rather than thalis.
So, coming to food. We ordered:
1. Prawns tawa-the best dish for the entire evening. Perfect spices, taste and crunch. Fresh too.
2. Tandoori chicken - taste wasn't that of regular Punjabi style tandoori. Thankfully it wasn't spicy as it was ordered for my kid.
3. Surmai Goan curry- I personally felt it was the worst dish. Maybe I was expecting something and didn't find it that way. It was too full of coconut taste and extremely bland. I thought it was cooked in coconut oil but the manager said they used both wet and dry roasted coconut. OMG! Am not overtly fond of coconut in food. Mood got spoilt. The mgr did suggest we should order malwani or Maharashtrian curry but I wanted Goan taste.
4. Fish fingers- basa fish. Internally fish seemed fresh. The outer cover was too thick and oily. Fingers were shorter than other places where I had them. It came with some liquidy raita which was definitely not tartare sauce.
5. Solkadi- quantity was too little but taste was fine.
6. Bhakaris were piping hot, soft, and perfectly thin.
Went with a lot of expectations after reading a lot of reviews but somewhere I wasn't happy. Won't say disappointed because I want to go back and try the malwani Maharashtrian curries as suggested.
Maybe then I can revise the rating.

Craving for sea food landed us at Maasa. Nice and cozy sea food specialist in Mundhwa. The place completely fulfills the expectation as per the name. I visited the place with my sister and we really loved the food here. A variety of fish dishes to kill your hunger. Service was really good. Food is really tasty. Decently priced. Total value for money. I don’t remember exactly what we ordered but i have attached a pic of the fish thali which was amazing. A must try for fish lovers.

This place was a pleasant surprise, tucked in a small bylane in mundhwa famous for its pubs and restobars, this place was a complete out of the place for such kind of a cuisine.

We went there on a weekend night and hardly 2-3 tables were occupied. We occupied the front seating area. They also have a huge family section.

Coming to the food, we ordered surmai/tilapia/chicken and veg thalis with a mix of bhakris and rotis. Was surprised to see the fammous tilapia fish which is a river/fresh water fish on the menu.

We were a bit taken aback to see our thalis being served without any bhakris and rotis. And then came the piping hot bhakris/rotis freshly prepared fresh and straight from the chula on onto the plate.

The food was quite good except for the tilapia fish which was not that fresh. The surmai fry was fresh, chicken full of flavour and our vegetarian friend loved his veg thali to the hilt. The veg thali had pithla and a aubergine sabji. The papad was soggy and we had to frequently request them to replace it.

The service could have been better. The pricing except for the surmai was on the decent side.
Overall quite an unexpected and good find.

Value for Money....

One of the best places for Sea Food. Must try Prawns Dry masala, chicken dry masala and Tandoori Pomfret. Bajari and Jwari roti was very fresh and direct coming from tawa which gave us ghar type feeling ... 🙂
Looking forward to visit again...

This was on my go to list since long. Finally got opportunity to visit. Had heard about the place from my colleagues.
The place from outside gives a very coastal kinda feel. The architecture is deliberately made to appear like one of those coastal belt highway joints.
Though I had heard highly about their sea food, I opted for a mutton thali. The quantity is good. Only the भाकरी needs a bit improvement.
Enough seating space and comfortable. Prompt service.

We visited yesterday. Had baby surmai tandoori for starters. Had lots of flavour. Ordered three bangda thalis and one prawn thali. Was a bit spicy I must say, but the solkadhi was truly good. Rice was aromatic and sticky which went well with the rest of the food.

Well this place has been on my bookmarks forever!
Finally I visited them, jumping straight into the food, I ordered prawns fry which was suggested by the person taking order. The prawns were covered in a batter and deep fried, it tasted fresh but lacked flavour, the server said it will be spicy and it was not spicy at all.

Next I ordered Surmai thali, which had Surmai fish tava fry, prawns curry, solkadhi and a dry fish(I guess). The prawns in the prawn curry were really tiny, the surmai fish fry was good and had lots of flavour to it.

I did not like the flavour of the gravy and the dry fish I don't know what it was.
It might be the case that I am not used to goan cuisine and the curries and it is an acquired taste that one has.

The place is decent for a family dinner, the ambiance is quite simple and soothing. Service and menu awareness could be better.

This restaurant is a delight to the seafood lovers!! Tried rawa fry prawns and it didn’t disappoint, then had maasa spl thali and prawns thali which was again upto the mark!!
Note: Crab curry is a must try!
Overall had a good experience and would recommend going there again and again.

Being an ardent seafood lover , the name of this place was enough to grab my attention.. another plus seemed the prices..so me and my husband along with our friend who's equally a sea food lover went to massa last Sunday for lunch..
The place was decent , clean and the staff was very courteous..
We ordered the bombay duck , Surmai fish thali ... one rava fried and one tawa fried.. along with a sea food platter ..
Both the Surmai were cooked to perfection..the thali also had prawns Curry which was nice .. dried prawns koshimbir ..which was good to taste and the the sol kadi, which was sweet ..this was bit of a let down ..
The fish platter was very well laid with different fishes to try out... a complete treat I'd say..
All in all.. a lovely afternoon with some nice seafood that does not burn a hole in ur pocket..

As I entered the restaurant it has a Konkan style red walls to give you a feel of Konkan...
The rotis and bhakris are cooked on the chulas right at the entrance of the restaurant which gives an village kitchen effect.
All that been said I went for the surmai thali and was looking forward for sea food feast
But was highly disappointed with the fry surmai I am confused if I should blame the chef or the fish which i think was not good considering the summer season...
Apart from fish other things were good in the thali like sukat and the curry
But all in all not happy with the thali for the money I spent
Peru
Really nice cosy joint, gives a rustic Konkan feel. The staff is courteous and prompt, delivering good service at all times. The food is amazing, simple yet fresh and infused with the right flavours. Definitely recommend to try out this place.
PS: Do not judge by the exterior, the food is really good. Visit at night for the ambiance.

If you are a fish lover, this place has to be a must visit. With a variety of sea and river fish dishes, the taste gives you a ride through the local cuisines of Maharashtra.
Also the traditional chicken and mutton thalis taste amazing ,cooked in maharastrian style ,bit of spicy.
Service is also good and they suggest good option as per your taste.

A very disappointing experience. Went with my friends after reading somewhere online about chicken-thali here.
Chicken was good and tender but yhe staffs? Unprofessional and disinterested..
Staffs get irritated and give you bad looks, if you ask them any questions about any dishes. Service matter a lot to me, hence 1star rating overall.

We tried 3 varieties of thalis (all non-veg), mutton and fish items (overall bill ~1500). The quantity served is very less and is overpriced, no doubt on this. 2 thalis cost you ~550. You can have better food with better service elsewhere.

detailed ratings follows:
Sea fish items - ** stale fish? not very sure
River fish - *** average
Chicken - **** tender and well cooked
Ambience - **
Staffs - * unprofessional and disinterested

I hail from w.b and love fish in general. Like/comment/follow me to encourage me to keep posting about fish and chicken food.

I visited this place for lunch with my parents who had been yearning to have some authentic Maharashtrian food.

When we entered the restaurant, there was no electricity. After enquiring, the staff said that there is an outage since morning. We somehow managed to sit inside without a fan. We asked the waiter to get us regular water to which he forced us to have mineral water (and later billed it on us too)!

We then ordered 2 Chicken Thali and 1 River fish thali.
The food was authentic but the quantity was less for the price. The thali included 2 bhakri and 1 rice portion. We didn't want to have rice, so we asked them if we could get another Bhakri instead. The waiter complied with our instructions. When he came back with bhakri, he decided to give 1 bhakri for 2 rice portions. To our disgust, as we were 3 people, he provided us with 1 and half bhakri. Now tell me where in the world one does this kind of serving.

Rude staffs, poor ambience, less food and improper billing pissed us off and ensured i write a review here.

I was recommended by someone but I cannot recommend to anyone.
I visited this restaurant with my family after reading the reviews in zomato. I being a maharashtrian and beloging from the coastal region of the state know what authentic Maharashtrian food tastes like. I ordered a Surmai Thali costing 450/- which arrived after 20 mins after ordering that too without the Bhakari. There was no person near the family dining area to attend the tables. We had to call them all the time. The prawns curry that comes with the Thali has only 1 piece of baby prawn and rest was only curry. I called the person who took our order and showed him that there is only 1 piece. After questioning him he replies madam Thali mein itna hi aata hai.. I was surprised at this answer. It's not that I am eating Thali for 1st time. So after confronting him he goes and gets something in a bowl which are around 3 small
baby prawns.. I'm still waiting for the Bhakri it's been almost 40 mins after placing the order the food starts getting cold. I had to eventually call him and ask him that they should have served only when the food is ready and not make a person wait at the table with an incomplete Thali and I asked him to take it back. Again 10 mins passed and I had decided if in the next 2 mins they don't serve the meal I will cancel my order. Finally the Thali arrives after waiting for almost an hour. Now after tasting the food I would say it's an overly hyped place. The food is average. The service is pathetic and the staff is unprofessional. Will never visit this place again and will also recommend my friends not to visit it.

Food:

Mutton Alani - Traditional Maharashtrian soup, not bad but not the best.
Fish Wade - The wade were made from minced Basa as claimed by them. However, there was no taste of fish although the wade itself were very tasty.
Squid Rava Fry - Normal rava fry, nice to taste.
Mandeli Rava Fry - Similar in preparation & taste to the squid. Mandeli are also known as Anchovies
Bombil Koliwada - Bombil fried in koliwada batter which had a slightly overpowering taste of carom (ajwain)
Pitthla - Quite different from what you get at Sinhagad, looked like a bowl of masala oats, tasted nice.
Bharli Wangi - Nice to taste, although we were under the impression it would be more of a dry dish.
Assorted Bhakris - We tried the jowari, bajri & rice bhakris

The place is Value For Money

Service:

The service is quick. One of the waiters had a slight misunderstanding with our order and placed a wrong order, which they rectified.

Ambience:
Maasa is a quaint little place, which has grown in size and stature over the years. As you enter you will find an old lady in a corner roasting bhakris. There is seating for family available as well inside.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon, ambience is good and staff is friendly. We ordered Bombil rava fry and Surmai tawa fry for starters. Bombil fry was amazing, Surmai had a good taste but was a little chewy. We ordered prawn curry(maharashtrian style) and tandul bhakri, both were amazing. The solkadi was rich and thick but a little too sweet for my taste. Overall a good experience and we will definitely go back
Fellow Traveller
Wanted to try since a long time their 'Maasa Special fish thali ' had it home delivered , 2 rice bhakhris - good , rice - ok , solkadi - no coconut milk , too sweet & readymade kokum juice used , they need to use agal - unsweetened option instead of sweetened , Crab curry - hardly any crabmeat in the crabs & curry had less salt , can be little less spicy , the 2 extra gravies - were too thin & not flavourful which was a waste , seemed just used like a filler for the thali , fish tikka - good , 2 sukat chutneys - were good and some lime & onions for Rs 500 + gst + del charges. Not a VFM item .

I would rather have their normal fish thali .

Giving 3 points for Fish tikka , sukkat chutney & rice bhakhri only , rest not worth any points .

Visited this place after it was renovated. Had fish fry for starters along with Solkadhi.
Fish was fresh and taste was good. Better experience after renovation.

As a person who loves sea food Maasa is exactly the place you would want to be.
The food is quite reasonably priced considering the quality and quantity one gets while dining here, keeping all of that in mind this place promises you a traditional Maharashtran experience which I to be honest am looking forward to already.
The ambiance is something different and would make you wonder whether you are in Pune or have taken a portal to Goa.
The staff is quite friendly and would most likely recommend you some awesome chill paste if you ask them for something spicy DO TRY IT!
There is a special seating arrangement for families which is towards the inside.
In all I would say that this place is totally worth checking out especially if you don't want to break the bank account.

The thing that I would recommend you to have are their rawa prawns, squid sukha, and any of the thali's that they have to offer.

PS. I was a big Mahesh fan when it comes to sea food but my ohh my, Maasa might just change that.
Strictly average food. I am a Goan and also, been to Malvan many times. This food is neither authentic fish place nor malvani. It was highly disappointing to say the least. Best was solkadi and fried kingfish. Prawns curry was above average. Rest were strictly below par. And worse was fried mackerel. Have never seen a fish that blue inside so clearly was not fresh.

Tried egg curry thali with jowar bhakri. It was really tasty. Solkadhi was awesome...Next time will definitely try fish menu....thank you...

I ordered two Thalis but the restaurant delivered one. On complaining, the restaurant delivered the second Thali but even in that items were missing. Very disappointing.

Ordered Surmai Thawa Thali and boneless Fish thali. Quick service. Awesome taste. Actual Menu prices are higher than those are mentioned on Zomato.

If you love seafood you must visit this place. The ambience makes you feel so cozy it's a very calm and peaceful place.. You can enjoy your food without any disturbance. I had ordered prawns Thali, though it is limited Thali but it's sufficient for two people. The staff over here are very polite. Last but not the end after having an amazing spicy meal you should not forget to try their moong dal halwa.

A lazy saturday morning and craving for seafood drove us to this quite place in a slowly upcoming neighbourhood in whats being called KP Annexe or Mundhwa.

The place is easy to find if you take the correct turn towards hadapsar station from Mundhwa signal.

Seating is ok. Wish the sofa seating had some sort of cushoning. Hard wood benches can be a little taxing after some time. The service staff was friendly and courteous. There is a separate family section towards the rear of the restaurant. There is a rustic feeling to the place designed out of red stone reminding you of one of bed n breakfast places on konkani beaches.

We ordered crab thali and pomfret thali. Pomfret was nicely done and tasted good. The crab thali was somwhat different in taste compared to other places. The thali was actually a fusion of many cuisines. The crab curry was marathwada style, the prawn was malvani and they had given a red rassa which tasted like tamda rassa of kolhapur. All very tasty and spicy typical of seafood places.

The bhakris were a let down. They were served fresh but were very hard and within a few minutes it was hard to even make pieces out of them. They exchanged one bhakri when we told them but the next one also had the same issue. Recommendation is to go for chapathi instead.

Overall a decent place to visit . They are not zomato gold partners so no scope for discounts yet.

Great venue if your a Sea food lover. The restaurant has been setup with red-stones for giving the touch of konkan or say like places near the sea/beach.
The menu mostly offers all sea-food dishes then may it be starters or main-course. Fishes like bombil, pomfret, Surmai, Rohu other than that they have prawns. If you are confused what to try - then go for Fish Platter which offers starters cooked in different ranges and has all type of fishes and prawns inside it. And in main-course Surmai Curry is great and to be tried with Bhakari or Chapatis. The curry serves 2 people for good meal. The bhakaris being served here are cooked in relational way using wooden/charcoal chullhas. And if not interested in one dish - then go for Surmai thali or Maasa special thali. Their solkadhi is average.
A good place for familiy or group. On budget side it's just above the scale of Mid-budget restaurants.

Overall:
Service: 5/5
Hygiene: 5/5
Taste: 3.5/5
Quantity per order: 3.5/5
Pricing: 3.5/5
Parking: adequate space
Ambience: 3.5/5
Had visited here on weekend for Dinner. Place is easily located with a descent interior, great staff and great tasty food. Great place for Maharashtrian style fish lovers. We had ordered Prawns, Surmai thali and Pomfret thali's and our order came on time. The dishes are spicy with superb taste. Prawns and Surmai Fry was ok as Surmai didn't seem to that fresh as Pomfret. Pomfret was amazingly soft and fresh. Solkadi was good as compared to the other quality available in Pune.

Service: Mr. Chavan was really good and always kept on visiting our table asking for help.

Overall, it was a great place. Value for money.

If authentic malvani seafood is what you are after, then look no further than this place.
The ambience is very warm and welcoming, not at all like other restaurants. Feels like you are sitting inside an open seafort.
The staff is very polite and helpful with great and prompt service.
The seafood here is as close and authentic as you can get to any malvani / goan dish. Very well made, bursting with flavors and great quantity.
Do try the squid masala. We had the maasa special seafood thali and it was a great gastronomic experience. It took 2 of us to finish 1 thali.
However, I would suggest you order individual curries or starters rather than the Thali because 3-4 items on the thali were not really great. The crab curry, fish tikka & prawn curry were to die for, but the rest of the items were just space fillers and we didn't end up eating them as it didn't taste that great.
This is definitely a place I'm going to visit time and again. Great value for money.
