Review Chopsticks Spice Malabar - Pune

One of our go to hotels for muching some good keralite food. Their Chinese and other dishes are also nice. I love their chicken manchow soup & Puttu with Chana or green peas curry and Appam or Neer Dosa with Kerala style prawns curry. Must visit hotel in Viman nagar.

We frequently choose this restaurant for our office lunches because it offers a diverse range of high-quality non-vegetarian dishes. Our favorite items are the spring chicken and chicken masala served with lachha parota. If you're looking for an excellent meal that's both delicious and budget-friendly, we highly recommend paying them a visit.

Good food. I have tried appam and Goan fish curry and Bhangra fry. Food is delicious. There is a terrace where you can enjoy your food stair case ie little small and not easy to climb. Only area they should look into is hygiene. Food is really tasty.

First of all I am a big fan of kerla culture and food . We often come here for sadhya Thali and every time it impresses me with taste and satisfaction. The ambience is also good and the service is excellent.

The Pineapple Stew was a unique and sweet-savory treat, the Avial was nice, and the Sambar was the epitome of South Indian comfort food. The assortment of sabzis in the thali was extensive and all of them were delicious, making it a memorable and satisfying meal. 2. Vegetable Stew in Coconut Milk with Appam: (5/5) The Vegetable Stew served with Appam was a culinary masterpiece. The appams were nicely fermented, achieving that perfect balance of softness and slight crispness on the edges. The stew was a harmonious blend of fresh vegetables simmered in creamy coconut milk, creating a savory delight. The combination showcased the restaurant's commitment to authentic flavors. 3. Biryani (4/5): The Biryani at Chopsticks Malabar was indeed delightful. It had a rich aroma and a balanced blend of spices. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the biryani had a satisfying flavor. While it was not the absolute best biryani I've ever had, it certainly met expectations and was a flavorful dish. 4. Butter Paneer: (3/5) I did try this paneer dish during my visit, and I must admit that the quality of paneer was somewhat disappointing. It didn't have the freshness and softness I usually look for in paneer dishes. It was merely okay, and this aspect of the meal could certainly use some improvement. The ambiance at Chopsticks Malabar is cozy especially at night (except that the staircase looks pretty old and needs renovation), and the service was attentive, adding to the overall pleasant dining experience. I would highly recommend visiting Chopsticks Malabar in Viman Nagar for a great meal.

I went out for dinner with a close friend of mine who hails from Kerala. He recommended that we dine at this restaurant, given his familiarity with the cuisine. We decided to order the Bangda fry, Fish curry, and Appam. Although it was my first time trying Appam, I must say that I was thoroughly impressed by its soft texture and flavor. When paired with the Fish curry, it made for a delectable combination that tantalized my taste buds. While the Fish curry was a tad too sour for my liking, everything else was simply perfect. All in all, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to indulge in South Indian delicacies. It truly is one of the best eateries in Pune!

Very crowded. You need to wait to get a table. The food was good. Due to the crowd you have to wait for the food to be served.. it was a little hot as AC on the first floor was not sufficient to cool the room.

Went for lunch here, it has a nice ambience for a Kerala restaurant, They had both indoor and outdoor seating, we were inside, sufficient seating inside. Ordered veg meal and fish meal. The sides that came with meals were good, around 3-4 sides along with sambar n dal, and they give small paper cup of payasam, rasam and butter milk. Meals entirely were good and fulfilling and it's more than one serving as well. For fish meals, we get a fish curry along with it not fish fry ( maybe they might swap it for fish fry if we ask them). Also ordered chicken 65 boneless and chicken ghee roast they were okay, i wouldn't say a must try. They have a good number of dishes on the menu and all styles not just Kerala. So a good place for non malayalis as well.

Visited this place for lunch. You can get Authentic Kerala menus here. Their fish & chicken dishes are must try. Tthey also have festive special thalis. Both outdoor & indoor seating is available. Service could be improved.

Worst food , worst biryani I have ever eaten. Don't know how come it got 4.2 rati g while other shops serving way better biryani is still from 3.4-3.6 rating. Don't ever order from this shop, i didn't get my refund also, I just had to throw the food away.

Recently I have ordered chicken mulakittathu and I found they were using so much of oil in the curry. Oil was floating in the curry. Little disappointed with the curry.

I had heard a lot about this place and very honest I am very curious to order but my bad luck last month I ordered through zomato can't believe what I received..firstly disappointed with package that you can see in pic and I am very fond of tandoori chicken and while ordering I put remarks that make it juicy and well roast chicken again what I saw hair in chicken even you can check in picture ..after this also I ate what I ordered because I pay for it ...even egg curry was same no taste at all I thought I am eating egg that was dip in masala water....so overall experience was pathetic never expected that I have to face this from your restuarant ..because everyone talked nice about your place..and your food might be my bad time...<br/>

We ordered Chicken 65, kerala parota and chicken biryani the food was stale and was stinking. Chicken 65 was very dry. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone for takeaway. It was a very bad experience.

Well, COLONEL’s AMBROSIA is here in Pune folks and here to stay for a while! So all fellow foodies and others longing to be in the loop for a decent grub place or a fine dine... follow me! I was at this place at the instance of a good friend( yeah mallu.. guessed it right)! Firstly it’s a behemoth of a place with three different dining areas and a so so rooftop.Quickly settled in and ordered some hot and sour soup and a bowl of Lollypop Masala to start with. Suffice to say that the soup was thin and the underlying flavours was neither hot nor sour! Lollypop Masala on the other hand had a flavour of sezuan but too hot to handle even for my friend who can withstand Naga chillies! Tears were already rolling down! The fried batter coating on the Lollypop was hard and stale! They could have done much better. Main course was some Porotta, appams and a dish of mutton roast! Porotta was a put off, appam was dog eared at many places which they agreed to change on considerable persistence from our side! The roast was the only respectable thing during the whole ordeal... well cooked chunks of meat in a nice spicy masala. MELAMINE HERE MELAMINE THERE... MELAMINE EVERYWHERE... this was the biggest turn off for me! With some good bone China and little bit more of effort on the Chinese spices this place could’ve done wonders for myp palate but alas!

Visited for the second time. Awesome food. We ordered fish fry bangda, surmai and promfret.Dint click pic of pompfret though,since we were engrossed in eating the other fishes.We also ordered chicken mulakittathu which was yum spicy,I usually dont like coconut gravy in chicken but this has the right amount of coconut.Then the parottas were super soft and were the actual south indian parottas and not laccha parathas as we get in the name of south Indian parattos.Must visit if are in this area.

We ordered Kadala Curry from Chopsticks Spice Malabar at Viman Nagar thru Zomato and we received a horrible curry with fully burnt smell. On calling them they agreed to replace it as they apparently knew this issue; but the one we received was also the same.

Some tastes better however this time my experience was Chicken Nadan Curry did not do justice to the Kerela Cuisine. Chicken Pepper Fry was not upto the mark. Paneer Chilly was good and the Vegetable Kerela Meal was authentic.

Good place for authentic Kerala food. I have been to this place many times and tried different items every time. The traditional veg thali on banana leaf, chicken Chettinad with Kerala Paratha, Appam Kadala Curry; all are punched with the spices of Kerala bringing the authentic taste. Quality is good but ambiance is a bit ok sort of, hence a 4star from me.

Visited the resto at 11 and was served with water n prawns masala just mixed together n served. Not expected from the resto....Even when brought to the notice of the management, he was like the kitchen is closed now.

Want to try south indian food then must visit to chopstick malbar in viman nagar. Tried appam, chicken tikka masala , kerala chicken . Food taste is awesome but Kerala chicken fry is average.

Today I ordered chicken 65 which was not good at all. It was very dark red in color and very spicey because of lots of red or green chillies. My question is why you need to add soo much color. I know for good presentation it is required but not this much. Add a little amount. I can see color in all my fingers. Health wise also it's not good. My my special request to you, please try to add very little colore or dont add any color. Still I want to give you rating 4 as I liked your other food specially appam.

This place is famous for non vegetarian food and I did the mistake of ordering a veg biryani.no wonder I was disappointed .what I got was tasteless rice with undercooked peas and cauliflower in it..I don't think ill order anything from this place .

This restaurant caters to some healthy home type food especially the South Indian food. We often go for the home delivery option. They have variety of options to choose from. I decided to go for their soft fluffy melt in the mouth Appams, and Veg stew. I also thoroughly enjoy and relish their Sambhar and Kadla Curry. ( black Chana curry). Their Avial is also nice just that coconut added is little on the higher side. I opted for the home delivery service. Delivery was prompt and in time. Food was delicious and was made using less oil. It was packed well. They make their own spices using fresh ingredients. I liked the food and the home delivery service. Their food is healthy especially Sambhar made with very less oil. I look forward to try out their other dishes. But South Indian food is their specialty especially Appam, Sambhar, Avial, and Kadla curry.

After a long time, we loved our dining experience. Be it food quality and quantity , along with service and ambience- everything was perfect. We had their special thali and trust me - it was a beautiful experience. Each and every items in the thali were of a different taste and all of them were super delicious. Pocket friendly place serving yummy South Indian food. We'd gone there for the sadya meal and weren't disappointed with the food. Will come back to try the non-vegetarian dishes on the menu.

I ordered for a kerala chicken fry through zomato delivery . The dish was very well made and flavorful, but the packaging was really very bad . Wrapping the dish in aluminum foil and charging for packaging doesn't make sense . Least they can do is use a banana leaf or butter paper with the foil..<br/>Kindly improve your packaging !!

Simply great south indian food. Malabar biryani rice, appam with chicken chettinad is my favourite. Also saddya thali is their speciality. Lunch hours are little crowdy..so have patience for getting table.

Ordered chowmein from here. We don’t know what part of this was chowmein. For the first time, got something like this in the name of chowmein. There were these boiled bland noodles and then there was this gravy which was sweet and had overdone veggies. A big bummer! We felt chopstick part in the name is for wrong and avoid ordering Chinese from here. <br/>

Found stone in veg hot garlic. This is was not expected. I really doubt how the hygeine is maintained in the restaurants partnered with Zomato. Highly disappointed.

This hotel would be suitable for south Indian who are missing dine with banana leaves. Best hotel for me . We our roommates would order at least twice in a week and orders are always up to the mark.

There are lot of varieties in mallu food but not authentic taste. I visit once in a while and never disappointed. Veg and non veg thalis are a hit on weekends. Of course due to the range of items served on the plate :)

Food is reasonably tasty and worth your money. Located at the heart of Viman Nagar, chopsticks Malabar is definitely student friendly and pocket friendly. With the variety of seafood and South Indian (kerelian) food , you would be a fool to miss out on this place. I am amongst those customers who live just 100 mts away from this place and therefore have seen it grow. Believe me guys you will definitely enjoy your food if you are a fan of South Indian cuisine or a seafood lover. And everything is so reasonable. Go nuts.

I am happy with the speedy delivery however I would rate one star as the paneer butter masala was extremely SWEET ...Also, the hara bara kabab was undercooked...Could have been much better..

Never order butter chicken from this restuarent it is sugar chicken. Thandoor chicken ok. Lolipop is also not good. Kerala porotta is good. I orderd through zomato.

Lovely, cozy and authentic kerala food joint. Went with office colleagues on a Friday afternoon for lunch and had an amazing kerala thali. Place was good, service fast and food awesome. If you are looking for a authentic kerala food then this is ur place.

Small pretty place. The food quality and quantity both were impressive. I took my aunt, who came to give me a visit in pune to have Surmai fish. We ordered Surmai fry, mixed prawn noodles and fish oyster sauce curry. All over a pleasant experience in good budget. :) Staff was friendly.

Had ordered noodles and it didn't turn out to be great. The vegetables were burnt and the taste was bland. The Schezewan sauce that came along with it was weird in taste too.

I am a fan of Chopstick Spice Malabar and eat there on and off. Unfortunately decided to order through Zomato this time. Ordered Nadan Chicken Curry and Dal Fry. Very disappointed ! the Dal fry was a disaster and the chicken curry had nothing "nadan" about it. <br/>Maybe one of those terribly bad days for the chef in question.   Hey! you guys have a great reputation... do not get careless now.

Authentic taste of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.  Of course the spice level is slightly lower while comparing that we get down south but the taste is still great. While there are multiple dishes that are great, one should definitely not miss having their Kerala Malabar Parotta, Idiyappam and Egg Curry. The price is nominal and taste is awesome.

A south indian restaurant serving some delicious food from a very long time. If you are a south indian you must this place, i ll be pleased. Their kali mirch tandoori is very special. Love it. The restaurant is a very cosy one with a homely feeling that it gives you as soon as you enter. We were there for lunch but I could guess that the restaurant would look awesome during evenings with outside seating as an option. The food was awesome as we had boiled rice, goan curry, fish fry and chicken curry. Nothing to complain about. It is certainly a no nonsense joint, a must visit for people who live to relish Kerala cuisine. Will definitely go again.

I was searching for something pocket friendly and came across this place.<br/><br/>The place is difficult to spot but using GPS, one can easily find this place.<br/><br/>Ambience: The place has 4 different dine in areas - Outdoor( basically for friends and large groups), ground and 1st floor (Air conditioned) & Terrace which is comparatively humid but good for couples.<br/>Overall the arrangement of furniture is bit congested and lacks ventilation.<br/><br/>Food: Keralite food here is among the best in town. We ordered Kerala Fried chicken in starters that was generous in portion and properly cooked. It was served in their traditional way on banana leaf and the flavours were on point.<br/>In mains, one should try their Chicken Chettinad with Kerala Parotha. Curry was made in coconut base that was full of flavours and spices. Kerala Parotha was served hot and was crunchy enough to enjoy the flavourful Kerala curry.<br/><br/>The place is good if you are low on budget and wanna try some South Indian cuisine. The place is highly recommended as it's value for money.<br/><br/>

Absolutely must visit for all non veg lovers. Loved the spicy south Indian food there. Must try is the kerala chicken dry. And the best part is the quick service.

I recommend this restaurant everytime when I'm homesick. Amazing food and friendly staff and the owner always having a big smile and happy to serve. Butter chicken and chicken mumtaz is the only thing I go for. Also it's fulfilling and worthy as max rs400 to rs500 you are able to eat with 2-3 people. It's a must place in a viman nagar.

I was looking for a good South Indian thaali served in traditional way(on banana leaf). Searched through Zomato and this is where I landed. Rating looked good so I went there with my family.<br/><br/>To start of the place looked very shady. With some trouble and roaming around the table with waiter for 10 mins got an empty table. Ordered for pure veg South Indian meals. True to their promise they served meals in banana leaf. Each and every item in the meal they served was cold as if they had taken it out from fridge. The taste of the food was no where near to a South Indian meal. Sambar was manageable but Rasam was horrible it was just a coloured water with literally no taste. <br/><br/>I am seriously shocked looking at the rating and my experience. Food is very cheap and definitely worth the money. The service is really quick and you can get a lot of food for very little money. The ambience is quite noise as it is a family restaurant which is acceptable for the price range. All in all it’s definitely worth the money.

...as they say they are known for authentic kerala food, they meant that.<br/>I have been here before, years back and that time i tried something that is these days no more authentic (as in common everywhere), however i visted them again a week back...and tried the “Sadhya” and man! Believe me you, that was an experience...<br/>One suggestion though, they could invrease the portion of fish btw...<br/>

I loved the food at this place and the service too. Place is bit cozy but it's worth. Waiters was very courteous and quick in service. Ambience is OK but it's the food that would lift your mood if u r looking for having something different from the usual dining experience. Ordered Triple schezwan rice. It was a total disaster with the taste. I would not recommend this restaurant for Chinese food. Only quantity was good but it did not matter.

Since we are new in Bangalore so exploring 🆕 places to eat is fun 😊 and a full time job in itself. So here is my review about this place where me, my wife and my brother in law went. He actually introduced me to this restraunt. (sharing pics attached with this review)<br/><br/>1. Ambiance 1/5: It's a small place in Viman Nagar and if you are not familiar with this place 90% chances are you will miss out on this. Plus the entry and hygeine is what this place lacks big time. We were initially given plates 🍽 one of which was broken and the other one had rice which may be was the left over of the last who ate on the same plate.<br/><br/>2. Food 4/5: Well we ordered kerala fry chicken 🐔 (boneless), coconut stew (non veg), veg hakka soup, appam and kerala paratha. Everything was super tasty and soft, except coconut 🥥 stew (non veg) chicken pieces were very hard and it dint seem fresh. Don't forget to try their kerala fry chicken, kerala paratha and a drink I don't remember the name it's made of coconut milk and is offered cold. It is yummy.<br/><br/>3. Service 5/5: The staff is very courteous and prompt.<br/><br/>Great place to try kerala food.<br/>

Have visited this place many times. It serves one of the best chicken curries and many more with some different South Indian touch. I have tried chicken peshawari, chicken banjara, veg bhuna, tandoori chicken, chicken lollypop and many other dishes. The best thing is their appam and their keral parotha 👌 it just tastes awesome with their yumm curies. Must visist for a different pinch of taste in chicken curries. Loved their Chinese dishes as well.

Food was delicious but services was pathetic. Our server was so rude in service and was always in a rush. He just threw the appam in our plate and he snatched the menu card form me while I was reading. I think because of good crowd he was taking customer for granted which won't be good for business.

Worst Food . Stale food . I had ordered Chicken Chilly and Chicken Triple Schezwan rice and it was smelling like stale so had to throw away to avoid any health issue . How come this resto has received the rating so high . I doubt it’s credibility . The quality has been downgraded to cheapest level even after paying a premium .

A lunch is suppose to be done like a King...yes tasty and full...with the unlimited thali keralite taste with blends of coconut to keep your stomach ready for digestion it's a awesome food to have at chopsticks....no acidity as no oily and spicy ...be it to check yourself...won't regret!!!<br/>

I heard a lot about this place and went there with a friend. Ordered the vegetarian thaali. The food was completely authentic mallu. Sambar was extremely tasty and it was not sweet. Loved the papad. Do try this restaurant if you want a change in your pallette.

I stayed in viman nagar, Pune for 2 years and Spice Malabar was my go to destination specially for homely, everyday and affordable meals. Staff that is courteous and helpful also makes this place a good option to dine in If you are in the area also there deliveries are always on time.

Love this place but whats with the sudden hike in Prices ? As a student might have to reconsider eating here . Such a shame . Please try to take the prices to their original denominations . Or maybe a student discount ;)

The food portion and quality are great. This place gives you great value for your money. An absolute recommendation for anyone interested in eating genuine South Indian cuisine.

Good soft Appams and tasty chicken curry. Fast service. Ambience is decent. Would like to try more of their dishes. A welcome break from normal routine food.
