Review Prabha Vishranti Gruha - Pune

Rajshekhar KK
Prabha Visharanti Gruh is one of the small and old food outlet at Pune. It is exactly opposite to Kesari Wada, where once upon a time our respectable Bal Gangadhar Tilak used to run a press for their Kesri Newspaper. Batatawada is the one unique item here. You will hardly get such Batatawada anywhere else. This dish is very famous and available mostly during morning hours only. Their Batatawada is very popular amongst the food lovers because of it's uniqueness. Wada is large in size and served without any chutney or sidings. On asking you will get answer that our wada is so equipped you will not need any Chutney or Souce with it and yes that's very true. I visit this outlet frequently and badly in love with their Batatawada. When I see it on my table I just fall in love with it's beauty that golden colour appearance with that smooth tenderness and sweet n spicy taste. Here I am just not able to explain how is it. You need to just go there and check the authenticity of this write-up. Batatawada lovers must not miss this place. Prabha is an old outlet and run by a family. You will find one or the other family member on the counter with that welcoming smile. Very down to earth people and their hospitality quality is very good. They have very limited menu but whatever is there it is surely great. Their another popular product is Sabudana Wada. To check that heavenly taste do visit Prabha Vishranti Gruh. They don't have dedicated parking if you are coming by Car you can park it in Mula-Mutha river parking area and come here by riksha. If you are coming here by two wheeler you will easily get roadside parking for your bike.

Iconic Maharashtrian Breakfast in Pune. Must try dishes are Sabudana Wada , Sabudana Khichdi, Batata Vada. We also tried Misal Pav but it was not tasty & upto the mark. There is a self Service & you get everything very quick. Very much affordable rates & not heavy on pocket. Nice cozy ambience which gives you vibes of authenticity.

One of the well know old hotel in the Peth area. There would be hardly any of the proper Punekar who hasn't visited this hotel well know for its tangy wada pav. There is very limited menu available here like hot batata wada, misal pav, wada sample with slice bread, sabudana wada, sabudana khichadi, upas batata bhaji, khamang kakdi and differents sarbats and solkadhi. They have always maintained the same taste and hygiene. Must visit place whenever you visit Pune City.

Just a fine breakfast place that localites might like. Good taste of Wada and Sabdana wada. Very authentic and hygenic. Slightly on the expensive side I would say. Misal has a very Puneri taste - tinch of sweetness.

Lots of friends suggested to visit the place, but always founded close. Finally yesterday, I am lucky. Ordered Batate Wada... Hotel management taken my passions test. After @ 20 min. I get the famous Batate Wada... The test is nice.... One special thing noticed... The puts a water jug on the tables but the didn't serve glasses to drink water... For that there is self service 👍👍

Just Excellent!! I absolutely loved their Batatawada. Mixed with Ginger and decent amount of cooked potato, this Batatawada is probably the best Batata wada in the Pune. Even the sabudana wada is worth eating here. But if they are charging 50 Rs for 1 plate Wada, they should provide some Chutney or curd with it. Timing are 8.00 am to 12.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 9.00 pm

Clean and hygienic place to try maharashtrian snacks. Batata Vada is a must try. Normally a wait is there on weekends. The taste of Vada is different compared to others and may not be liked by everyone but worth trying.

A small eatery in Narayan peth, bang opposite kesari wada which serves some mouth watering dishes. We went there last Saturday on a whim and really loved the experience.

We ordered batata vada (which is what they are famous for), misal and a sabudana wada. All items were very nicely done. The sabudana wada especially was not the oily type that normally is served in some of the places. The items had a very distinct hot and sweet taste to them.

Overall I will give it 5 stars for - quick service, delicious food and the value for money factor. Our total bill came to less than 150/- for all 3 items.

Do go there definitely, batata wada is worth the hype. It's a very small place so if you are late then be prepared to wait for some time.

Visited this place yesterday evening. This snack center is one of the oldest snack centers in pune. Its around 70 yrs old. Here you get very few items like potato vada and curry, sabudana vada, meal pack... we ate vada and curry with 2 bread slices. Also ate sabudana vada.. awesome puneri taste.. enjoyed yesterday evening with hot vadas. The vadas are really very big sized..

The batata wada had no taste. It was not at all spicy. In the parcel, they didn't even put fried chillies to accompany the wada. Almost all hotels put atleast 2 chillies to eat with the wada but not Prabha Vishranti Gruha. The wada was sweet and although it's their signature dish, I still didn't like it. It has a Unique Taste I guess😕

I have not received my complete order. When I phoned to the restaurant, my call is not answered. I sent the complaint on Zomato. They have also tried to contact the restaurant without succes. The quality of the bread is also not good

Prabha Vishranti Gruha , Narayan Peth (opposite mayor Mukta Tilak’s House)

#epic #batatawada

Folks at home had some last minute Diwali spending to do..

Prabha Vishranti Gruha was on my mind ever since Aniruddha had introduced it recently on the platform and this was a great opportunity to check it off of my list..

It opens at 4.30pm for evening snacks , and we were there bang on time (I made sure folks wrapped up their chores by the 4.30pm)

They have self service and an open kitchen - it is such pleasure to watch piping hot Sabudana and Batata Wadas rolling out of the assembly and straight into our plates... Beat that!

We ordered Batata Wadas with their really tangy and utter delicious Sample and their unique Misal with extra bread slices...

The batata wadas are mighty huge, full of stuffing that is low on turmeric and full of flavour with an extremely thin jacket..
You can have it with their signature Sample or without - either way, satisfaction is a given!
I’ll go a step further and say these were the best batata Wadas I have had in all of Pune.
Terrific..

The Misal isn’t spicy (almost bland for those Stone-Cold Katakirrr/Mamledaar fans) , and is served with a ‘Pohe’ base instead of the usual ‘Usal’...
The sample is rich and very palate-accommodating with fresh chopped onions and tomatoes.
Super crunchy peanuts within are a nice touch...
Misal fans dare not miss this sheer brilliance on a plate...

My only gripe, is that they don’t serve Chai and don’t use Pav to go with their rich Wadas and Misals..
But that aside, this is going to be my pit-stop in all my future Peth jaunts.
while its a bit difficult to find this place open considering their business hours and sunday closed policy... you will be in heaven once you get in there!
they serve the best batata wada in town - and mind you this is not the wada you have in wada pav! like the one you get in Tilak Smarak or Bharat Natya, this one is to be eaten by itself!
OR dipped in the Rassa!
their misal and sabudana wada is great too....
Bakasoorr
One of best place located at heart of Pune. Small place with self service place but excellent in taste and it is very much consistent for many years.

There are many regular customers and on specific day which you can get on busy days.

Food items are very good in taste specially sabudana wada which is very good in taste. Batata wada is very big in size and it will fill you almost.

Very good place for having breakfast. Must visit
Mandar Pasalkar
One of the old places who still do the business as per their will and way.

This place is very famous for Batata Vada and Misal.

In Rainy evening nothing like hot batata Vada and some chutney can fulfil my craving.Vada in it self is one complete dish,at Prabha you get Vada with boiled batata bhajji stuffing mashed with some green chills, outside coat is very good as they don’t add any Soda to make it fluffy.

If you like Pav with your Vada then you will be disappointed as they only serve this with slice bread.

All and all a great place to visit to enjoy the real Marathi snacks.

PS-please look for opening times as it vary a lot.
Revati Orpe
Typical puneri place which is famous for sabudana vada and batata vada. But they don't serve dahi/chutney which sabudana vada and pav with batata vada. They claim their vadas don't need it 🤓 but sometimes it does! 🤓 It closes really early in the evening .. like I said.. typical puneri place
Kedar Barve
The place called Prabha Vishrabti Gruha : right from it's name, interiors, location (bang opposite to Tilak wada) simplicity of the menu, the person sitting at counter (& his Marathi speaking style) everything has a consistent & common factor - it is typical central puneri & brahmani style!

I find three of their dishes too good:

Batata wada (2 wada in a plate for 40 RS. As of July 2018, don't ask for chutney or fried Mirchi or sauce with it, that's taken as offense to taste of wada itself & in return you will also receive some offense)

Sabudana wada (2 wada in a plate for 40 RS. As of July 2018, does not come with raita, kakdi, thecha like other places)

Misal: not the best in town but has unique taste that I liked

Also their upwaas kachori is good as I heard & so is sabudana khichdi ; but myself never tried these items.

Totally hygienic place but beware...even though it's a food joint, irony is, it closes at 12 afternoon (maybe they want to go home for their lunch)
Varun Phatak
A very old and popular eatery in Pune, serving typical Maharashtrian Brahmin style Food. Located just opposite the historical Kesari Wada(Lokmanya Tilakji's house and printing press) this place serves tasty and awesome food. Must try :- Their special Batata Vada, Misal ,and upwas items.
Food-10/10
Service-8/10
Ambience-8/10
Value for money-9/10
Rohan Bhagwat
One of the oldest establishments in the city. Amazing वडा सॅम्पल and मिसळ , the सॅम्पल is too good & has a unique taste that you won't get anywhere else. Love it.
Veg_asura
This place will give you authentic taste of puneri cuisine, it's different than usual. Misal and wada are must try. Everything is little bit sweet.

Prabha Vishrantigruha ...Simple but tasty food. ...I love their Batatawada, Sabudanawada ... Misal is also nice.. slightly different taste. Nice and clean place to enjoy maharashtrian snacks.
Mrunmayi Natu
You will get hardly 5-6 variety of dishes.. But every foodie must try that sweet tangy potato wada.. It has the same taste and quality for atleast 10 years.. Misal is also good..
Neha
I simply loved this place for simplicity and sorted menue...Awesome batata wada...And khamanga kakdi is worth trying...Located in narayan peth exactly opposite to kesari wada...This legendary outlet is must try if you are in Pune..Timing can be a problem..They are very specific about opening and closing timings.. please check and go that would be helpful...Otherwise perfect place to treat your tounge... I heard even their Misal is worth trying...Next time i am going to try it for sure.
Kudos to the management for maintaing the taste and quality for more than 50 years.
Prateek Rampuria
Excellent place! The vada is accompanied with slices of bread. Each plate has two vadas. The same goes for sabudana vada. The size is huge and the potato filling is full and flavorsome. Hints of Coriander, garlic and mint makes it just perfect. Missal pav is amazing too. Loved their Kairi panha. Only improvement can be in 2 areas :

1. No availability of fried chillies or any type of chutney with potato vadas and sabudana bada.

2. They should start drinks like buttermilk which goes well with Missal pav.

The ambience is simple with set tables and chairs. Quite popular in pune and the quality of food is actually pretty good. :)

All these costs appx 200 bucks only!!

Batate Wada notout @77*,

Established in 1940, Prabha Vishranti Gruha is one of the oldest food serving place in Pune. Apparently the first place to serve Batate Wada in Pune :)

This Wada of long tradition, differs to traditional wada in terms of recipe, this wada has stuffing of cooked potatoes without turmeric which generally gives wada its yellow colour, this wada also has tinge of citrus taste, served hot with crisp outer coating.

Other distinctive fact about this place is, wada is served without any chutney, if that doesn't suit you, you can have it with sample (sambhar like curry), though being a self service outlet, you need to pay only after you eat

Other from wada, other famed dish seems to be misal and Sabudana wada, saw some people taking parcels in tiffin.

A small place with sitting arrangements as less as 10-12 benches, Prabha Vishranti Gruha is definitely a lesser known yet iconic food outlet of Pune that you must try.
Vyankatesh
Lovely place to be, usually open by 8am, so visit during first two hours you will definitely get everything.
Khichadi, Sabudana Wada, Batate Wada are tooo good to have excellent, typical taste. Misal is also another thing which one should not miss. Perfect cleanliness. Just one con is they do not give anything complementary with Wada and Khichadi I mean Chatni, Curd or something but taste is worth.
DEEPTI PUNDLÉ
Great BatātāWadā but their timings are so uncertain (therefore the '4' rating from me) that they must be losing a lot of clients.. Tasty and pocket-friendly...
Harshad
Ultimate Potato Wada, Sabudana Wada and few other things. 3.5 rating is purely for these limited awesome items.

Most unpredictable timings. You will see it open only if you are lucky. My office is 2 minutes away from this place, but 75% of the times I have seen it closed. Owner have typical Sadashiv Peth attitude. They open whenever they feel like and close as soon as limited quantity of food that they make everyday is over.

Rest of the items are just ok or below average.

Sabudana vada and khichadi batata bhaji is fantastic. Batata vada is good too. Paranjapes of Prabha need to keep the place open for a longer time. They have a habit of downing shutters the moment their daily quota is over. This is irritating. Though the quality compensates for this eccentric behavior and one still visits the next time its open
Chintamani Palsule
It is in continues service for more than 75 years is certificate of Taste & quality. You will always get fresh & yummy Wadas. Batata & sabudana wada. Khichadi & Misal is also good. One of my, my family & friends favorite place for tasty & fresh food. Ambience is also fine.
Samir Kulkarni
The outlet serves in typical puneri style, the batata wada is big in size and real yumm, no two wheeler parking available in vicinity. Sample is also tasty here.
Gurudas Nulkar
Love batata wadas? Then this is a must try place. Super stuff. Consistent taste for like the last 20 years. Not crowded at all. They make limited wadas, so chances are you will make many trips here before you get to dig your teeth into one.

Do not expect to be treated like a King! Behave, or suffer the wrath of the owner.
Vipul Gujarathi
Very old restaurant famous for batata Wada since then... Nice taste... Cannot be compared with others.. Personally I have not visited the place so cannot tell about the ambience but can definitely guarantee about the taste, it's a bit sweet that's y the taste is bit different
Sukhad Shastry
Prabha has phenomenal batata wada! That's the top and the bottom-line. It's something like you've never tasted before and never will. Try the batata wada here and then you would know the where the bar is to be set! In a city where you would find wada pav at every 10 meters, its very difficult to make your mark specializing it. Prabha has achieved this quite well! They have other dishes like sabudana wada n khichadi and 'traditional' wada sample which are very good too.

Located in narrow lanes of Narayan Peth, Prabha is small eatery with its own set of rules. They have a limited menu, limited working hours and prepare a limited number of units everyday. You have to be lucky to be served here or be very diligent. Isn't that a great challenge for a real foodie??
Aniruddha Bhide
Vada.. Their speciality is they don't even offer chillies and bread with their Vada. And in city like Pune, nobody complains about it because they are so satisfied with it. Cleanliness, simple ambience are the highlights. They'll complete their 75 years the next month on the day of Gudhi Padwa. (Estd: 1940) heartiest congrats!!
UMESH SHIROLKAR
A very clean place to eat. The best dish as far as I have had is their kachori but they have discontinued it. Their sabudana wada and khichadi are also very good.

I was introduced to this place by my parents.
Quality and cleanliness is their prime aspect. The must have's are Batata wada with sample. Unique taste and really great combo with slice of bread.
Similarly Misal is cool as well.
What really impressed me was while you paying at counter after ur snack, its you who have tell them what have to eaten!! I respect this attitude.. Definitely try for all honest foodies :)
Sagar Rahurkar
It is one of the oldest eateries in Pune. Must try if u want to taste the best wada sample. Unique part about their wada is it made of potato with white masala instead of regular yellow masala. Yummm!!!
