Review Selvi Mess - Salem

Gem of a place to have really good South Indian food. Chicken Briyani is my all time favourite and their chicken 65 was outstanding. Also tried the pepper chicken boneless. Make sure to customise your briyani with Chicken Drumstick or normal chicken pieces. It’s a thing here, you can choose what kind of piece you’d like in your briyani. I’ve tried the in-house service -they always serve food on banana leaf which elevates the taste. Take away packing is very traditional, a layer of packaging paper and banana leaf to give you the exact taste and portion was standard. My visits to Salem are never complete without a visit here.

Can improve the quantity of food. Not that quantity for the price. Also food is not steaming hot

Went to this mess for lunch. Had a good experience. Ordered an empty briyani, non veg meals with starters kaadai 65 and koththu kari. Let me rate each dish I believe food should not be rated. Everyone has a different taste. Rating with the numbers would generally help Koththu Kari Taste is good. But masala is overshadowed the actual taste of the meat.If you like masala flavour more. Try it 3/5 Empty Briyani Tasted as same as normal briyani. It comes up with a boiled egg. They served Non veg gravy for it. 4/5 If you are in budget constraints Kaadai 65 Deep fried meat served with onion and lime. I have tasted this dish in many hotels. But believe me this one is too good. If you want to try a new dish other than chicken or mutton. This is for you. 4/5 Other than these we ordered Kalaki and half boiled. 3/5 They are using groundnut oil for the spread. If you do like the nutty smell over these you can try it. The taste of Home made. Take away is flexible. Moderate price. Located near town railway station. No car parking, seats were available when visited has family AC dining hall. Famous for take away and home style non vegetarian foods.

Best food for non-veg eters. Chicken biriyani was not great.

Selvi Mess is a popular non-vegetarian hotel for more than four decades. This is the mother place where they started hotel. It is just walkable distance from the Salem Town Railway Station. Quality conscious people. There are several branches in and around the City, offer same quality.

Loved their starters. Biriyani was good but did not meet my expectations. Price is on the higher side, quality is less.

Varieties of non veg starters and side dishes. Biryani (seeraga sambha) is superb. Little high price on all varieties. But the ac dinning hall is very small
