Review Indian Coffee House - Shimla

So, there's this really good restaurant, Indian coffee house, right in the heart of Shimla's Mall Road. Let me tell you, their sambar and coffee are okay, nothing mind-blowing. But other than that, everything else was awesome! The place had a great vibe and the food was pretty darn good. They've got a nice variety on the menu, and the overall experience was really enjoyable. If you're ever in Shimla, it's definitely worth checking out.

This was my 2nd visit to this place. The time has not passed here it feels. The waiters and the vibe is like the 90's. We had the famous masala dosa and coffee ofcourse. The dosa was so good. You should visit once when you are in shimla.

Its at the centre of Mall Road. Service is a bit slow and is quite crowded too during peak hours. You’ll find many locals at this place hence you vouch for its quality. Food is good. Don’t expect South Indian dishes to be true to its taste, if you are aware of South Indian palate. They don’t have a menu card to be given at a table. Instead it is listed on the wall.

Authentic Indian cuisine like every Indian coffee house across India. The Heritage looks matches the heritage site and has a large seating area. Cushions are not as comfortable as it looks but a descent one. The serving were timely and fast.

A heritage site that was established in the year 1957 is situated at the mall, Simla. A traditional and exciting experience reminds me of my youth in the Indian Coffee House situated at College Street, Kolkata. The food quality was good and traditional. Service was very fast and professional though it was crowded. The heritage atmosphere is still there to enjoy.

One of the oldest and best places in Shimla to have some tea, coffee, snacks, Idli, Dosas and other such foods.Quality of food is awesome with a very reasonable price.They have seating in two levels. Usually it is crowdy due to high demand. They also sell coffee powder and provide paid rooms for staying.Staff is well dressed and behaved.

The Indian Coffee House is an iconic eatery and coffee place in Shimla's Mall Road. where waiters dressed in starched white uniforms weave their way around tables bringing to you steaming hot coffee. Opened since 1957, this house has played host to a number of dignitaries, lawyers, writers, artists, politicians and government officials who've made this place their home after digging into the scrumptious mutton cutlets Despite the onslaught of MNC's like Cafe Coffee Day almost diabolically springing up in the vicinity, the much-beloved Indian Coffee House manages to hold its own in a small town where moderate prices and genuinely friendly service don't go unappreciated.

This is something you should visit in Shimla. The atmosphere rings you back to 1957. Old sign board, wooden furniture and casher. Waiters still wearing those traditional dresses and old experiences service, very friendly and warm. Simple but good food. Food quality are good and the price is not high than anywhere else. The signature hot coffee taste such unique.

For some reason there are very few South Indian restaurants on Mall road. ICH hence stands out for Idli Dosa lovers. Had masala dosa and coffee. Both were ok and could have been better. However the vibes of Waiters dressed in ICH typical dress with pagdi was nice to feel along with casual environment. Very close to Scandal point. Restaurant was open even at 10 pm.

This is the one of oldest coffee house and belongs to same chain the Indian Coffee House. Their special dishes are really delicious and amazing. We also found here people with very warm welcoming and helpful. This place has very nice vibe and their old heritage location at Mall road is aslo wonderful

Nice place with good foods. We can feel a different,unique vibe here. A must visit place if you visit Shimla, highly recommended. Foods really tasty, prices extremely reasonable. Service also good. Nice atmosphere to spend time.

India Coffee house gives a rustic feeling and is kind of nostalgic.. something from the past. I did see a few young faces and a lot of old ones but it was worth a visit.

I would be happy to provide a food and restaurant review of the famous Indian Coffee House, a South Indian restaurant located in Shimla. My experience at the Indian Coffee House was delightful, and the food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is situated on Mall Road, which is a popular location in Shimla. Ancient shop located at the beginning of Mall road with warm gestures and pocket-friendly prices that too with flavoursome food. Mostly crowded for which the reason is clearly known.

One of the oldest places in Shimla town. <br/>Always known for the delectable South Indian delicacies and typical South Indian style coffee. The staff has been courteous and dressed in their typical outfits for years. <br/>Every Sunday meant idlis and dosas at this place while growing up for us in Shimla ♥️

This place is super crowded with locals. Based on Zomato ratings we visited this place but found to be super hyped. We ordered for a special coffee & cold cream coffee both turned out pathetic. It was very watery less of cream & milk. Filter coffee should we thick. Bread jam toast, bread butter toast was good. Veg. Earlier till 80s there were India coffee house at most of the major cities in India,it's a chain operated by a cooperative under coffee board,due to mismanagement most of them closed ,now only a handful in few North Indian cities and in Kerala.<br/>This place has its own fan following,not for those who are searching for cool,comfy ambience.<br/>In Shimla too ambience is basic,old and less maintained furniture but always remains crowded.<br/>Food is good and value for money wrt other places in surrounding.

I love the nostalgic vibes at this place. There sambhar's taste was really great first time I finished my Sambhar without idli or dosa. The coffee at this place is really value for money, I love the special coffe.

Ordered hot coffee with cream.it was nice. Staff was so kind and generous. Prices were so nominal. The whole vibe of the place is like of a cafe in 80s.

Simple place and gives you a comfort enviroment. Food taste is decent. Prices are quite less as compared to other places in shimla. Staff is cordial too. This place is very old and gives you a historical feel which i personally liked😊.

The cafe enjoys a great history. I have been to ICH at Jaipur as well. While searching for proper North India food in Shimla, I reached this place with great relief. During my two days stay in Shimla, I did dinner and breakfast here. So, no doubt, the place is comparatively cheap. During peak hours, especially in the evening and night, you will have to wait to find a seat and if you get a place, you will have to wait for your order. I had ordered #idli sambar and a special North Indian thali. The thali was nice, just that the rotis needed to be given more attention. The thali came with three vegs (daal, matar paneer, mix veg) along with 4 plane rotis and rice. The idly sambar was not up to the mark. The sambar was not what we usually eat. It tasted daal. The next morning, I came here for breakfast. I ordered normal hot coffee, the taste was pathetic. I again ordered special cream coffee, that too okay type. The cheese omelet was nice. However, the palak pakora was the best out of all the items I had ordered in my two days.

The place had a staff crunch, but the present staff was well-mannered. Had coffee, which was good to taste. The dosa was a treat to the taste buds.

Don’t go just because it is very old cafe, they don’t know how to make basic filter coffee and for that matter dosa too, worst experience ever, this is not a coffee place for sure..<br/>

Indian Coffee House is a name that needs no introduction. But the reason for the same is strictly due to it age and not by the 'Quality' of food. We had ordered the famous cutlet and Masala dosa because that what we have always ordered in Chandigarh's Indian Coffee House but the food was tasteless and I can sense that the potatoes in the Dosa are not fresh. The same stuffing was used in Potato Cutlet so we were stuck between rock and a hard place. The hot coffee we've ordered was too bitter to taste and needs to be sweetened. The waiters acted like the owned the place and payed not heed to numerous calls for attention regarding the order. <br/><br/>The only good thing about the place is the location where it stood for several years. There are many other restaurant which have come up recent time that offers much more decent experience. :-)

Very economical as compared to other restaurants in shimla, I have ordered masala dosa which was good in taste.<br/>Waiting Time: you have to wait to find a table and also they take time to serve the food. But at the end the taste is worth the wait. Located in the start of mall road.

Indian Coffee House is one of the oldest restaurant chains of India where like minded people used to have superb coffee and discuss on burning issues at hand.<br/><br/>Ambiance is still old with waiters in their british era uniforms. We had finger chips, masala dosa along with tomato soup. Nothing was good in food. Everything was too oily to eat. Only silver lining was their coffee which managed to save their name.

This is supposed to be an iconic coffee in Shimla, owing to how long it has been existing. The place was set up in 1957. It is not exactly pretty but it definitely has that authentic cafe vibes. The place is usually full with a lot of chatter going on. We went for a breakfast there. We ordered paneer pakora, mutton keema dosa(very famous from here), paneer dosa, toast with scrambled eggs and cold coffee. Scrambled eggs were literally the best I've ever had jn my life nd I am not exaggerating. I want to go back to Shimla only for that. The mutton dosa was also quite tasty. Rest everything was pretty average. Cold coffee needs a lot of improvement.<br/>The place is really economical. We had all of that in only 700.<br/>Definitely worth a visit in Shimla.

This is located at mall road, location is just perfect. Visited here during trip to shimla. They have old looks interiors which looks decent but place should be more neat and clean. Had their special coffee which was worth of money. Masala dosa was average in taste, shambhar can be better.

Perfectly located on the mall road, reasonable prices, old furnishings and authentic coffee place. It usually always remains full, which tells a lot about it's popularity. The coffee house is very old and recognized in Himachal. I loved their special coffee, which is what I tried out. It was hot, with the right quantity, perfect for the misty day that it was. The prices are quite low. The place does not have great decor or ambience, so if that is what you are looking for, you must check out other nice places on Mall Road.

Old architecture from British time. Classy style South Indian dishes. It is operated by government and it's very cheap. But one must visit this house if at mall

We went to this restaurant. Price of food is low which is good, But... Food quality is low too which is not good. We ordered hot coffee, cold coffee etc. Not a place to go again acc to me.

Had to walk 2 to 3 km to find this place but it was worth it. The place had a bustling feel to it. It had a theme going which took me back to the 90's restaurant feel. And added to that the menu also has prices with paise included. Coming to the food, I ordered cheese omelet, french toast, vegetable cutlet and burger. The first two were really good and I would say a must try. However I felt the burger was out of place in taste as it felt deep fried like pakoda.<br/><br/>If you end up in Shimla, please do find time to visit this place because it's worth it.

You might not get I'll in few days or years after eating their food!! maybe because, you are used to eating this filth!! Anyways, I was at a surprise inspection and what i saw was shocking to me !!!! Mouse and cockroaches going all over the kitchen and dining area, the waiter making no effort of cleaning the table before or after the customer sits!! Things are been taken very lightly at this restraunt. I wonder how they are still serving. Your health is at stake in this restraunt!! Many people have reviewed on the basis of price! What is the point of saving few rupees here when ultimately you have to shed out on medicines!! How stupid!!!!

It’s situated on Mall Road, looks old type construction but maintained well, staff are old but with super service & courteous. <br/>Prices are super low, I ordered Special Coffee which was excellent and very heavy due to cream on it, &<br/>Mutton Dosa - Dosa was super crispy and perfect mix of mutton.

Worst Dining Experience at this place in Shimla.<br/><br/>Had ordered masala Dosa and Cold Coffee. One of the few places on the Mall that open at 8 AM.<br/><br/>Limited food options but worth the price. The Tomato onion omelette is sumptuous, cutlets are very nice and crispy, south Indian stuff is amongst the best you will get on the mall and again everything is freshly cooked. What an authentically rustic place it is!! The ambience is very simple the food service is fast. The food menu is plain, simple and very pocket friendly. It feels very cozy to be in shimla sipping homley cup of coffee here. I would definately recommend this place.

This place speaks for itself. While wandering just like that in the streets of shimla this came across and i Haven't had to think twice to go inside. The servers were wearing that amazing "shadi-wala" attire which was the first attraction! And the food and that amazing coffee which i had after a pretty long time. This place has my heart forever. The old famous Indian Coffee House will take you old 80's 90's ambiance. Not that pleasant environment inside we got. It was packed with local peoples. I visited many indian coffee houses across india. This was not that good or not that bad even. It was a rainy day and we were badly requiring some hot coffee. Filter Coffee was just okay. Ordered veg pakoda along with coffee which was good.<br/><br/>

Coffee house has been my favourite whether it is Delhi or Shimla.As always, it was too crowded .I had ordered Masala dosa, Vada and Idli. Vada were crispy. I liked the food there.

We visited this place yesterday evening. It seems to be a place which is always crowded. It was pretty dark inside and had seating arrangement in the lower floors as well. We ordered the hot coffee which was good and the special coffee which was not that great for a coffee which is supposed to be more creamer. We decided to try Mutton Dosa. It had a mince filling in it. The mince was very bland. It needs more spices to bring out the flavor. Overall a good place.

This place needs little introduction. It is jam packed most of the times given its good food that is highly pocket friendly. Practically, all Indian Coffee House have a rustic interior and pretty much the same flavor for their food. I have experienced consistency in taste across Bangalore, Chandigarh and now, Shimla. The South Indian delicacies are great - be it the dosas, idli, vada or uttapam. The veg cultlet and hot coffee are equally great. This is one place that sets the stage for a good conversation.

Wow just wow!! Tried one cold coffee and one black coffe. This guys brew theor own coffee i guess.a must try. I used to believe balinese coffee are the best ones, this place changed my perception. This place has been very popular among local Shimla and once you visit this place you will see it fully crowded with people most of the time. During normal days, you can find a place to sit but some waiting time can be expected. Association with ICH is very nostalgic for me and was hoping to have a good experience with Shimla outlet too.But frankly ICH Shimla has some scope for improvement tastewise.Special coffee was a bit on the watery side and the cheese sandwich was also dry.Although South Indian Dosas on other tables looked delicious but after this fiasco couldn't prepare myself to take another shot.However its warm and cozy interior is a great escape for people who cherish the rusty charm of good old days.Do visit if only for getting the olden days' vibe and experience.

Its nostalgic being in Indian Coffee House. Its always packed with people trying to relax and have fun while having food. Staff is extremely polite and helpful. Food is fresh, yummy and value for money.

If you have an affair with coffee then you should try this place having a good coffee at a reasonable cost, although the ambiance is not up to the mark, the best thing which stands out this place is one of the oldest cafes in Shima establish in 1957, so here you can find the old story of the ancient Shimla.

We reached here at 3:30/ 4 pm..it has a typical old time colonial look.... everyone here was with a black jacket and a hat...gave me a feeler that they must be from law profession...completely packed with the grey haired guys and travellers like us, squeezing in what ever space was available...they have managed to well maintain old wooden sofas, which are low, spacious and comfortable...the waiters here still dress up like they used to during britishers era...the menu is quite petite but list lot of things...we ordered for filter coffe, cold coffee, idli n mutton cutlet...mutton cutlets were delicious n filling ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐...idli was nice..sambar was unlike the typical southern indian sambaar but was very tasty⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ..didnt feel like leaving this place...we so wanted to go back again....

This is the best and old place situated in middle of mall road in shimla. Not that classy place.. this place will give u old vibes, where some of senior citizen comes read and chat on political agendas. Food is fab and cheap. Do try special cream coffee.

The best place to have a cup of coffee is INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE .. the building is very iconic nd is located on the upper mall u.. it is relished by all the age groups ....local people also prefer this place for cup if coffee nd spemding time with each other ... must try cheese omlette, coffee , mutton dosa and cutlets.

Indian Coffee House is the most popular place to have breakfast in this area. I ordered masala dosa, masala omelette along with their special coffee. The food is really good. The service can be improved.
