Review Goofa Ashiana Restaurant - Shimla

Please do try their Chhah meat it’s different and delicious. Dont visit after 8:30pm as the service won’t be as great! Overall a good place to have a great meal and be a part of history as well since the property is more than 50 years old ❤️

A decent place to eat. Just on the mall road. Food is nice. Simple and tasty. Not much masala so i loved it. The quantity is little less as compared to other places, like egg curry just had 2 eggs in whole bowl. The service is nice. They have both inner sitting and outer sitting as per your preference. Must try.

One of the oldest restaurants in shimla is living up to its reputation.. the food is great the staff is helpful and cooperative.. I really enjoyed their masala chai with salami pizza and veg pizza.. the chicken cutlets were amazing too! Soft, tender and juicy.. just too good. The cold coffee was amazing as well not too sweet yet not too strong.. it was just perfect.. we had an amazing time spent here with family.. the views of the ridge made it more enjoyable to come here for having lunch! They do have outdoor seating as well if you like that..

We wanted to try himachali thali and siddu. , And this seemed liked an appropriate place to be at . Siddu had a savoury filling and was served with ghee , it has a til onion base kind of feeling with wheat outer bun which is steamed . Himachali thali contained choley which had a dhai/ lassi kind of mix gravy Khatta meetha kaddu Kadhi And a mangodi/ badi kind of dal made out of maa ki dal . It also had a portion of rice and two pooris For sweet dish it was colourful boondi dipped in chasni

A Delightful Dining Experience at Goofa Ashiana Restaurant I recently had the pleasure of dining at Goofa Ashiana, and I must say it was an absolute delight from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal. The menu offered a diverse range of dishes, each bursting with flavor and expertly crafted. It's evident that the chefs at Goofa Ashiana take great pride in their culinary creations. From the appetizers to the main course and dessert, every dish was a culinary masterpiece.

Aesthetic place at Mall road just 400 m from Christ Church and touching distance of Dr YS Parmar statue. Cons: 1) Beer option is limited with only Kingfisher and Budweiser available and that too only in 650 ml volume with same menu rate which was bit shocking. Obviously Budweiser should be asked as KF doesn't justify at that high end rate 2) Payment option is only cash and card with no gpay/Paytm/phonepe options which is unbelievable as even small paani Puri vendor or coconut water seller to 5 star hotels have these options. It seems like an imposed limitation to encourage cash payments as most people have stopped carrying cards nowadays. 3) The toilet is of limited size to let only one person at a time for peeing & hand wash is available outside the toilet not inside of it. 4) Samosa ordered was very big in size but low in taste as not even salt was added enough. However, the quality of Idli Sambhar was awesome 👍. Pros: 1) Lots of space to choose from for the sitting. Good place for big groups and families with kids as they have space to move around. 2) The visibility of Mall road from the restaurant is available as transparent glasses are there. 3) Outside sitting is awesome with a nice view and the weather was supported with intervals of sun and fog. It is a place where one can spend 2-3 hours easily enjoying food drinks and ambience.

Beautiful seating with the most delicious food. We ordered butter chicken and mutton curry with tandoori rotis and it was the most delicious meal we have tasted ever. The mutton just melted in the mouth and the quantity served was good. The staff who served us was attentive and the restaurant,Ashiana had a great seating with great views of the ridge road.

The Goofa Ashiana Restaurant, a curcular wood and stone structure with huge windows overlooking the Ridge on one side and the Upper Mall Road on the other, surprises on the upside with its delicious and moderately priced cuisine. Guests have a choice of sitting indoors(good for chilly days), or the more informal outdoor dining area with its parquet floors and ornamental, cast iron garden chairs and tables. The indoor interiors look moderately plush with long curtained windows, and tables with bright blue dining cloths arranged near windows overlooking the Ridge. Its great for people-watching, and while you're under no pressure to leave any time soon, you may feel embarrassed to linger by the constant ingress of casual diners strolling in from the Ridge. For a prime location like this, the food prices are modest. I ordered an absolutely good-value Himachali thali, since it was lunch time. It came in a traditional brass plate with small brass containers with dessert, kadhi, chholey, pumpkin curry, gattey ki sabzi, rice and puri. It was absolutely delicious and very filling indeed. I'd a casual look at the bar menu. The prices are much on the higher side, else this place is the kind for which drinks were invented. After lunch I sat out on the large terrace with its pretty bright blue and adobe tiles, enjoying the crowds roaming on the Mall below. The sun burst through the clouds after a while, warming my skin, my heart having already warmed up with yummy Himachali food. The Goofa Ashiana is a place that welcomes you to visit again and again.

The perfect spot to have a hot cup of coffee with your friends or family and have the entire view of the ridge and the lower Mall Road.
This restaurant has got some really great food option as well where you can dine in with a view. As it is maintained by Himachal tourism the prices are quite economical and the ambience is done up beautifully with some really polite servers around.

The location is just perfect and the ambiance is nice but the place is not well maintained.
However if you wanna drink liquor with friends and family at affordable rates and good crowd this place is the best option.

Over hyped place. Nothing special. It is simple Midway restraurant which we find on highway. Only thing is that goofa is there since more than 21 years. Food is mediocre. Staff is hesitant to push in bill for those people who are just sitting there so even if you have ordered one cup of tea. You can occupied that place for hours. You can shel out money just for a pure experience however it may be spoiled by the waiting period . If you are tourist and wanted to experience authentic himachal food there is nothing you can have there.
Caution there is no first come first sit order so if it is full. You have to huddle your way to your table. No staff gonna help you out.

We spent a considerable amount of time at this restaurant while waiting for the rains to stop. The ambience is good, the view overlooking valley is very pretty. However, the food was average and the restaurant loose stars in the cleanliness and service department.

We visited this restaurant during our trip to Shimla a couple of times. The food here is simple and not very pricey. It is just opposite to the large national flag on the mall.

Not a good place to visit. Staff is very rude and because its HPTDC restaurant, so no focus on food quality and variety. Location is good though

Scenic view and good food compliments here.
Had himachali traditional food and a beer.
They need to work upon maintaining thier cleanliness specially of table cover. Also I found service bit slow may be because of less staffing that time.,.,,............

HPTDC Goofa Ashiana

We visited is cafe on a rainy day in Shimla. This cafe is placed in the ridge area of Mall Road just opposite the church and has a fantastic view of the valley. This place offers you with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Coming to the food we ordered
1. Cream of mashroom (soup)
2. Chicken chowmein

Food was really good & tasty and even service was quick.
Cream of mashroom is the dish to try.

You can really enjoy your meal with a perfect view of Shimla valley.

Over all rating - 4.5/5 ❤

This place is chic! Situated right on the ridge, it is pretty easy to spot and quite welcoming when it comes to its outlook. The interiors are nice and comfortable. We went for a range of Indian main course items; dal makhani, kadhaai paneer, mushroom masala alongwith bread basket. The dishes were good and the portion size decent. The hot gulab jamuns as the dessert were equally good. Overall, a nice experience! It is not very heavy on the pocket too.

Some places add to your sweet memories. This place did that magic for us. The food and the ambience is amazing. You will also see affluent people from Shimla also visiting this place. Good service.

A nice open shed place to hangout in cold and breezy weather of shimla. Sit there around the year end to get the best view of the snowy Shimla accompanied by some hot coffee, snacks and a chatter with friends. Chilly chicken at the place is a must try.

This restaurant is located in the centre of ridge next to town hall and offers the best food in shimla. Best thing about this place is that it has a rooftop that provides a wonderful view of hills surrounding it.
But, tables here are generally reserved. So, getting a table becomes a time consuming task.
Staff and services are excellent. Ambience is good.
Rating: 9/10
This restauran is in the heart of the queen of hill Shimla and is famous for it's prime location on the ridge. Bar is also available here and food is good according to the price.
Sizzler is a must try.

Our one and only destination in Shimla ,Goofa itself is located near the Gaiety theatre. In fact it was built on a Historical structure. It was built on the old Bandstand which was a gift for the city from the princely state of Punjab of pre-independent India in 1907. Obviously it has the best location among all the food joints of Shimla. As HPTDC runs this restaurant the menu is quite similar to what you will find in any other HPTDC hotels. But what attracts us is the fact that whatever little Himachali cuisine we have found during our several trips to this mountainous state have been found here. Himachali Pulao is one of our favorite. It is our very own fried rice with an unknown twist of apples and pears in it. Try this with Chha meat – another Himachali delicacy of mutton.
This restaurant with huge glass windows providing a 360 degree view of the Mall and the snow clad mountains of the Kinnaur Himalayas, and the warm Himachali food is a must-have to set the mood for the trip to those mountains.
The restaurant also has an alfresco dining area which is open till late afternoon offering a view of the Jhaku temple above and of the town of Shimla below. During our visit to Shimla we had enjoyed snugging of the afternoon sun here, along with our favorite Himachali food and a glass of the “Kalpa Apple” (Apple wine: a local produce) after a leisure stroll through the sylvan walkways from Chota Shimla to the mall.
