Review Sasumaa Gujarati Thali - Surat

Sanjib S
Best value for money. One must visit this restaurant for unlimited Gujarati thali at Rs.320/- including taxes. Located on the Main Ring Road next to Mahavir Hospital. Parking on weekends is little difficult to find.
Priyanka Oza
The location is good but there are stairs to climb to go to the place so I'm not sure if all senior citizens will be able to go here. The food is decent. There is a lot of variety in sabji and very good options available. Farsan was disappointing.. expected little better. Sweets were good. Must try once

The atmosphere is amazing and appealing. Food quality is excellent, and the taste 🍲is fantastic( Feel like home made taste and food). The service is excellent, and the staff is courteous and cooperative, They serve food with much love. The price is affordable(~150-200 per person). The cleanliness and hygiene are excellent. There is plenty of parking and a sitting area. UPI and card payments are also accepted. A great place for unlimited thali. If you're looking for gujrati thali, I highly recommend this restaurant. After a long time i was eating something good in a reputed place. So i had eaten so much(but within limites), i had food food poisoning. Good place to go with friends and family or alone. Ya but don't eat too much.😋 It was really nice restaurant. Really authentic food, pure Kathiyawadi. Too many items in Gujarati dish. Service was really good. Good restaurants for friends and family. Seating arrangements is also nice. Price also medium

Taste is good. Ambience is good. Service is excellent. But that added punch of something different or extraordinary was missing. It's more like routine stuff now. Scope for improvement. It is very good for outsiders who come to surat and visit. But if you are local and want tp again and again..you need a welcome change also. Ashish bhai was very good in guiding and service.

This has been one of my favourite place in Surat for full meal. The unlimited thali is not just about unlimited food but the variety, taste, service and the atmosphere around. The staff are very polite and helpful. They take care that you eat till your belly is full and keep on checking with you if you need anything. They have a very unique sign language method to call for any food item you request on table.

A great place to have a traditional Gujarati thali. There were 30 of us and the manager made sure to give us personal attention and made sure none of us lacked in any service. The food is pretty standard fare as it is with such places: at Rs. 320 per head including GST, the food is just right. Not spicy just the right amount of oil. A bit sugary but we had requested the management to prepare a small amount sans sugar and they did so. We had rotis and mini rotlas with butter as bread. Some four Subjis including some lip smacking lochko mug nu shaak, dal and kadhi very sugary, rice, three Farsaan including dhokla, chaat and another savoury. Two sweets and the inevitable chaas. The air conditioning was below par but not an issue as it was not that warm Overall would recommended because of the personal attention to customers and the friendly staff and the food, of course.

It's a Rs 300 typical daily Gujrati food thali. Non - stop good service, but the expectation as a tourist was different for me. It's a basic nice simple clean veg food.

Homely food, considerate staff, quick service and the best part about a Gujarati thaali is you don't have to think about what to order. A wide range of food items available in one plate. The taste is great. Unlimited Gujarati thaali for ₹300.
Murtaza Asghar Ali
Great Food & Taste as well with economical price. Gujarati Thali must be try at once if you are in Surat. 😊👍 Specially the way waiter call each other by whistling it was amazing. I visit in 2018 with my wife 😊😇. Miss that Thali now as well..
Sunny Macwan
Gujarati thadi in reasonable price approx 300 per plate . They have served chapati, puri, 4 veg and 1 paneer sabji, 2 sweets, dal bati, two type of dal, buttermilks, kadhi, rice, papad, salad, dhokda, gugra, etc… All staffs are well behaved.

I have tried kansar guharathi thali in surat before. It was time for this restaurant. We went ahead for this on a saturday evening. It took us 10 min to clear the waiting. This is the first restaurant i saw which has thali system yet they are charging you later. Appreciate the hospitality. Coming to the food, It was perfect. Not so spicy not so sweet. I am not a gujarthi and can i understand the pressure of finishing the entire thali. Indeed i was able to do that to my expectations. They will also serve moong daal khichadi at the end (not in the picture). So have some space for that too. I ll definitly like to put it above kansar in surat. Must try!!!!
Mayank Bhargava (Profit Masters)
Loved it....quick service...good fresh and tasty food. They have kept portion size small to curtail food wastage...you can ask for refills as many times as you like. Manager was personally supervising every table and asking people for more servings. Things that I loved were pooris, small chapatis, Gujarati Daal, khatta salan, butter milk, their chaat, papad. Must visit

I was there to have the taste of Gujarati thali after reading so many good review. But it was so disappointing. There food items were not that tasty. The variety of foods also was not good. I feel it would be better to go for other restaurant.
Flavour Of Platter
Sitting arrangements are very good. Clean and hygienic place. Perfect place to go with family. Only veg. Next level tasty vegetarian food. Price is worth. You can repeat food multiple times in same price, you will get it unlimited thali.. no extra charges. Amazing !!! Overall service was amazing.. Ll give 5 star for service.ll recomended to everyone...

When in Gujrat was expecting a better gujrati preparations, just about an average place , if you are looking for authentic Gujarati dishes not the place to go, when one can serve tomato sause instead of Mitha chutney u can well imagine the authenticity. Adding more gheee or oil does not add flavour and taste sir, it's the real original manner in which Gujarati dishes are to be cooked needs serious attention. A big let down for me
AMOL POWALE
Food was very much average type. No special cuisine as the quality has been detoriated in past 2-3 years. Not at all clean. Not worth at all
Khyati Savla
We had been here for lunch. The ambience is very basic as well as the food is also average. The taste is average as compared with other Gujarati thali resturant in Surat.

Finally had the Gujarat thali here, it was really fulfilling. Awesome ambience and service. I loved how fast the service was. Everything on the plate was very delicious. Loved the chaat especially, it was quite different from the regular chaat. Special mention to aamras, it literally made my day.

Such an Awsome place .. great food frenly staff efficient n clean ... more n more their way .. highly recommended to all visiting Surat .. will come back again .. very tasty food
Mansur Saiyad
Overrated!!!. The gujrati thali was not even closer to authentic gujarati taste. Wouldn't recommend. In Surat, there are much batter places who serve very good Gujarati Food.
Dhruvil Lathiya
The food was great but the packing was not good the dal and sabje mixed up so please pack food properly and the delivery of food was also fast so overall 3/5
Yusuf Kallawala
Good quality of food with good service makes it 4star rating.
BT bt when we stop at pricing Little bit costly than kansar and gowardhan.....
Akshay Solanki
Amazing loved the packaging, taste, quality, quantity and the food delivery time.
This restaurant keeps up with the brand image which they have created since its establishment
Mr. Nehal Desai
sasuji become sasuma , a huge thali you find in restaurant , if you visit for the first time keep fast for the day & then next day you come here with empty stomach , first time you get confuse what to eat , good gujarati food & taste , even smallest parcel thali is really very good - value for money - must visit or order and eat : )
Aditya Hegde
The food is yummy and there is no doubt about it.
The service provided here is very unique. Just by looking at the amount of food your tummy would be full. It is unlimited meal. The ambience is ok but the staff here is very welcoming.
Sankha Mukherjee
Visited Sasumaa's for the first time while at Surat.
Located at the Gujarati Thali district of Nanpura, this is situated on the first floor. I didn't see any provision for specially challenged people and that's what pisses me off.
The thali had multiple items of around 20. The taste was immaculate. The best was the halwa and the phulke.
Service was immaculate.
Monik Mehta
Not superb taste but so so...roti was very small...not worth of money...but so so food. Also not value of money & taste wise not amazing but ok type.....
Nitin Solanki
Not worth of money, We had Rabdi for sweet and was really not like rabadi, thin like milk.second sweet they called pineapple halwa was actually made from soji with added pineapple flavour.
Sabji was ok, Farsan was not fresh.
Siddharth Mali
This place is an exclusive Gujarati cuisine. It has all
Gujarati dishes on its menu. It’s most probably famous for Gujarati Thali which contains the whole Gujarati meal.😋
Rutuja Sarode
Visited Surat for the first time n tried out the Gujarati thali!! Simply awesome!! The ambience is good n the staff is polite n service is real quick!! It'll get crowded on weekends n generally people are seen waiting in long que! But surely worth a try!!

Great place for good homely Gujju food. The food quality is also nice. Amazing variety too. Something to suit everyone's palate.
While the food is really good, I would like to give them full credit for their amazing hospitality. The waiters feed you with so much love, you almost feel like you're being feed by your daadi or naani. They will insist that you eat some more even when you're so full with all the yummy food.
Good food with great hospitality is what makes this place special.
JYoti Aditya Pareek
Food is good .....But only a complaint that servers r very hush hush typo. Seems they just want u complete ur meal and get out . This spoils all mood ..Pls c management about it . Rest perfect .

INDIAN TRAVELLER FOODIE
Today having a pure gujrat I thali with 4 different veggie and two types of dal in which one dish is sweet served with pooris and fulka and in last they have farsan and punjabi samosa and butter milk which is very good and light on stomach

Last Sunday, we had visited the restaurant with family. The Gujarati thali was quite OK. but the other side is worst. the waiter did not have sense of talk. They serve garlic bread on regular sandwich bread!!!
The (punjabi) Dal was taken from the Gujarti dal!!
& There is no diff between NAAN and Tandoori Roti. (only size matters).

very disappointed!!
Bhukaad By Choice..😉
Thali toh my fav... mostly kidhar ki bhi ho.. hehe..
I love their soo mny variety of food..
Such quick service..
Lyk ghar ka khana types...
Visited couple of tyms n got delivered too..

Food has become quite sad , I took my family here for Eid , disappointing and Chaas is bland. Only highlight was the Aam Ras , which you will only get in summer. Sadly they have also pushed down the quality.

A Perfect Place For Very Tasty And Authentic Gujarati Food
Very Nice Ambiance Along With Tasty Food I Love This Place So Much That We Just Don't Dine In But Enjoy The Parcel As Well
There Are Number Of Things To Try For Sabji Roti ,Raita Sweet You Name It And They Have It Do Go For it You will love This Place

Visited this food joint on 13th of May '18. It was a Sunday and as usual there were large hordes of people queuing up for their table. The service took a while to get started. Meanwhile there a lot of noise coming from the other foodie's. People have got to learn to respect others and lower their voices while having food. It's not cheap not expensive either. The AC left a lot to be desired ( maybe due to the fact that it was full that day ). Would try again if I don't find a better place ( I sure hope to find one though ! )

I visited the place a few months back, but totally forgot to post the review.

Well, since I come from the land of dal baati and gujarati food, I have had the luxury to experience the hospitality offered by many such traditional thali restaurants across Rajasthan/Gujarat/Mumbai. In my understanding what really makes a difference is the traditional ambiance, service and quality of food.

To start with, I would rate this place below average on ambiance. As soon as I entered, I felt like I entered my college canteen. The place was extremely packed - hardly any space in between adjacent tables, chairs were pretty uncomfortable and it was darn noisy.

Quality of food was not exemplary. Their menu is also average. Did not find a single dish that stood out. I have tried Kansar, my local favorite restaurant close to this, and would definitely rank it much better. Hence, food doesn't give you a reason to come back.

Lastly, such gujju thali restaurants are very popular for high service levels. Most waiters at such restaurants would serve with a smile and go extra miles to make you feel at home. The service at Sasuma is a complete contrast to everything I mentioned above. The waiters are grumpy.
Given the competition among gujarati food chains in Surat, it is absolutely essential to do things right. People new to surat, do walk four steps ahead and try Kansar!
Karan Chauhan
this is my second visit at sasumaa and it's very upsetting to say that both the times I suffered stomach ache, vomiting, dizziness and sickness.... the management seriously needs to work over it's hygiene of food and beverages..... totally disappointed.
Ameya Oke
A very good Gujarati thali restaurant. The thali leaves you full filled and contended. The taste is good and ambience is ok. A variety of small dishes make thali exciting and enjoyable.
Himanshu Vora
Was here in June 2017 with mom & bro. Thali was good. Ambience okay. We were only there since it was 7pm. Toilet was in bad condition. Service seemed rushed.
Juveria Mombasawala
The variety of gujju thali food here is good.

Though i not a big fan of gujju thali food
Sometimes its good for some change.

The ambiance here is okay but the balcony area adds glam to it.

The service is nice and fast so thats always a plus.

Alok Pandit
Great place to have a great gujarati thali. Taste is great. Polite staff with awesome service. Must visit place. Value for money and if you are in surat you should try it for sure.
Nitin Thakur
Being in Gujarat you can’t miss on these restaurants serving authentic Gujarati food/Thalis.There are many options available in Surat and I decided to take on each one of them. So here it is my tango with the gujju food. This place was second on my list.

The taste of most of these places serving thalis and Gujarati food is quite similar and you can hardly make out the difference. The service apparently was a little disappointing and the place too as compared to other options is not that well maintained.

Ambience- 2/5
Service- 2.5/5
Taste 3/5
Price- 3/5
Value for money-2.5/5
Pragnesh Patel
Great for unlimited Gujarati meal. Taste and service is unmatched. Nice location and ambience. But after 5-6 visits there must be something new is required in menu. For Gujarati unlimited thali meal options are limited in adajan area. Overall it's best till now.

Just a normal Gujarati thali !

This is I guess the oldest Gujarati thali serving place ; they have good veg;
I loved the fake being Gujarati;

Sasuma "Badi dukaan, pheeke pakwan". The food is not extra ordinary..the decor is also nothing to talk about. Toilets needs to be clean. Won't matter if you drop this place. Nothing to loose.

Complete authentic Gujarati Thali. I have been going there since the time it was called Sasujee. My family's go to place for Gujarati Thali. The servers treat you like family and the food is very tasty. Every type of taste bud will find something for itself. The only downside is the price. Its on the expensive side. We now go once in a month or two. My favourite dish is Bhakri.
Parul Juneja
Food: 4/5
Sasuma serves amazing Gujarati food and that too in great quantity. They have lots of varieties, daily menus and some unique items too. I personally love pineapple halwa which I had once in their menu, but never got to have again. Gujarati kadhi is amazing, Light and refreshing 💕. Overall great experience. If u want to dine out its unlimited thali or take away is another great option in which they give u sufficient food for 4 People.

Ambience: 4.5/5
Nice, clean and hygienic place with comforting interiors
.
Service: 5/5
The staff is very nice and polite. They serve u sweetly and treats u like a "jamai" so yes it stands out on the name"sasuma ki Gujarati thali"
Dr. Prashant C Jariwala
We visited the Restaurant on 03/09/2017. It was a business trip. But we discussed the business plans in the waiting area, before entering into the Restaurant, because the staff is always in hurry to serve the customers and there is no time to discuss in details during the Lunch.
(It was a good restaurant in past. 4.5 out of 5. I'm talking about the year 2011.)
My wife didn't like the food. 3 out of 5.
By the way, I enjoyed the food.
Vikas Singh
Highly over rated. They are known for their thali but i did not find it anything special. There are many other restaurants in Surat with much better thali. But Sasuma has become a brand and hence is a must on the itinerary of any tourist visiting the city. Avoid if you can
Arnav Bhattacharya
This place is a must visit and I would include it in my itinerary even if I had only one day to spend at surat. The thali is superb and gives one a taste of some exquisite yet traditional Gujarati cuisine. The place has a vibrant and energetic feel to it especially when all the tables are full, which is generally the case. It gives a flavour of the variety of food items Surat is famous for. I'm definitely taking everyone who visits me in Surat here. At 260 rupees, it's an amazing buffet! Loved it! 🙂
Hemant Gupta
Very nice service and food quality. Rates are also reasonable. Behaviour of the staff was also best. Best place to go with family and friends

Visited this place with family after many years.

The quality of food has gone down substantially and service is quite slow on a weekday as well.

On our regular trips to Surat we happened to stop by "Sasuma" since I had this very good image of "Sasuji" at Ahmedabad (I thought they might be coming from the same family :P) The ambience is fine, neat and clean. The food is nothing special which leaves you with that USP taste to make you visit this place again..!!! Some of the items I liked was Chaash, Aam Rass (in any form would do for me) thats it..!!! Average food as per rate..!!!

Ambience : 3/5
Price : 2/5
Food : 3/5
Service : 3.5/5

This one of the craziest thaalis I've had with unlimited dishes served only for ₹299! 2-3 sweet dishes, 3 types of breads, 7 main dishes including sweet n spicy daal, 2 portion of vegetable gravies, paneer n saag. Chaaas too is served with the thaali n a few snackables
Vfm-4.5/5
Taste- 3.5/5

I love Gujarati Thali and make it a point to have it, whenever I am visiting Gujarat. The service is quick and fast. Was not impressed with the taste though. Also the choice of the vegetables they had was not impressive.

My 1st time in Surat and I was overwhelmed with the amount of places serving a Thali. After burning those grey cells and making a few calls on asking restaurants about their Thali Menu, Sasuma was the clear winner.
A simple set up but good food. The wait staff is really kind and will keep offering you till you wave the white flag. I truly enjoyed my meal especially the Rabri.
In all a really nice place, reasonable, good food and value for money.
Excuse me, while I have some more Rabri.

Date of Visit-6th December 2016, Tuesday
Timings - 1:00 p.m to 2:00 p.m

There are very few places in Surat who serves good Gujarati thali. I heard a lot a about Sasuma for its Thali. We entered and got our seat quickly.

We just got settled and within a moment our dishes got overloaded with number of dishes. Their green moong sabji and Undhiyu were excellent. I loved their dessert part consisted of moong dal sheera and sitafal rabdi.

Service was real quick and you wont even get a chance to breath during the time they are serving you. In a fraction of seconds you will have to decide whether you want to refill you dish or not. If you don't react than by default they will refill your dish.

Overall a good place to have lunch and dinner when you are looking for Gujarati thali.
Kaushal Gokani
Great food, great service, good staff. Feels like you are really being served by your 'Sasuma'. All in all a very good experience. Will surely recommend to all Gujarati food lovers.

If you go to this place after eating a late or a heavy breakfast or snacks you will have only yourself to blame! The unlimited thali costing Rs.260/- is awesome. The service is excellent. No sooner did we finish one item on our thali, then the guy serving that item will instantly appear and ask if you want more.Apart from the usual things, we were served Mug daal ka halwa and rabdi, too.I would love to go again. Don't forget to eat a paan from the seller outside.

Great Expectations that I had about Surti Thali , that too visiting Surat after 27 years, Sasuma was a " Let Down". On 16th Dec. 2016, No Athanu(pickles)and Surti Kadhi served, which spells massacre of a Surti Jamman(Thali). That was it. Service average by Surti Thali standards. Their Farsan Soup stood above the rest of their other items on the thali. Within seconds or even before we reached the cashier counter, the mineral water bottle which we had sparingly used, and which we wanted to carry with us , was missing from our table, that too before they cleared our table!!, which left us wondering if they are recycling it

If you are not from Gujarat and want to experience gujarat food then you must try this place once. I took my mother here and she really loved the experience. With a big thali and so many dishes we were overwhelmed. Not only this staff is polite, well dressed and really quick as you will never find yourself calling waitor to ask for something more.
A must visit.

For me, its been traditionally the best gujarati thali restaurant for ages

The moment you enter, after five minutes or so food will be served.
Ambiance: 4/5 (for less rush weekdays are preferable)
Food: 4.5/5 (without a doubt delicious, not too sweet)
Service: 5/5

Pocket friendly family restaurant.

Have been to Sasuma quite long back with my parents and Dadi... overall it was an okayish experience... The food was okayish... service was good... we felt there was too much noise in ambiance...
But recent reviews are tempting me to visit it again...
Naresh Mulchandani
we tried this place last year....they have yummy food served on your thali...The name means mother in law and you are fed as if you are the son in law. The staff and the servers really take good care and make sure you are full. food is decent... good experience.

Good place with a sober ambience and delicious food. I am a hard core non vegetarian however at times a verg thaali is a good change. The service is quick and food is delicious.

The food is amazingly mouth-watering. The variety that they offer is spectacular. The hotness of the food served, will leave you asking for more. The quantity is unlimited. Their motto is to have you leave with joy. I was so delighted to have made a halt here from my one day trip. Of course, leaving Surat, without authentic Gujarati cuisine is something I normally don't forget to cross of my checklist. If you're in Surat and you're looking for a hearty service and a good meal, please drop by. They served me the custard for an extra bowl without me having to ask for it. I just loved it. The dahi ki curry, the halwa, hot hot khichdi, crispy papad, fresh salad, and the lovely phulka along with the other dishes just made my day. Just go for it.

Best Gujarati food in Surat! Gujarati thali they served to me here was much better than any other Gujarati restaurant here.

Must visit Once👍

If you have come to Gujarat and want to try Gujrati food then do visit this place as they serve the best Gujrati thali and also at a good price.
If you notice their style to order you will love it as all items are coded in a hand they don,t speak much.
And will insist you to eat more and more.

Was recommend by locals for a good Gujarati thali and it turned out good. The food was very spicy not for yhr faint heart but it was good to taste some new Gujarati dishes. The service is very good as they give personal attention to make sure that you taste and eat everything and explain what a dish consists of.
Rajendra Mehta
Have been visiting Sasuma on every visit to Surat but last time I saw a fall in their food quality. They did not have Gujrati dal nor Aam Ras (this is the mango season) Food was more spicy then before. No Kichadi was served. Please don't get so complacent.

After a meal at Sasuma, I don't even have the space to breathe!
The food quantity and quality is so good!
And again a must go for Jain foodies who like sweet sabjis.
There are so many items to eat, and all so so delicious that you get confused which one to eat more and which to eat less, cz after all even our tummy has a limit!
I fancy the quick service that they have and also it's quite amusing to watch how they communicate to each other.

Went here for the first time and tasted authentic Gujarati food for the first time. Though it was awfully sweet for my palette, i figured this is how Gujarati food tasted. I liked the rotis and jowari rotis as well. The dal kichdi with ghee and khadi was the best part. Sabjis were average as it was all sweet. Buttermilk was the best. And the hospitality was out of the world. It is good if you are a fan of sweet food.

We were desp hunting for a decent thali place which served good undhiyu as its winters and that's the best in this season.....and a friend had recommended this place called sasuma as a must try so we headed there. And lo behold!!!!! It actually turned out to be really good. Amazing food and the best undhiyu we have ever eaten. It was just perfect. Of course all the rest of the dishes were fantastic too. Probably a really good place if u crave for gujurati food.

One of the best gujarati thali I had in my lifetime! Highly recommended! Yeah but the service is a bit slow! But it doesnt matter when you once start eating the food. The best part of the restaurant is their amazing rates. It will cost you only 240/person.

Had been to Surat for business and I was asked to try the outlet Sasuma. And did it live upto its hype and expectation? Yes it did. The staff were friendly, the food was nice with richness in each bite / morsel.

Best thing about this place is that, even the toilets were dry and clean and that shows how they emphasize on the cleanliness and hygiene.

The food ordered was always hot and the fritters served along were suiting the rainy weather outside.

People who are travelling to Surat have to have a visit to this place.

Great place to have gujrati food in the city. That order delivers to you by signaling the numbers with only fingers and the food what u asked for comes to your table as quick as they they can serve. This coordination always amazes me. I have visited that place numbers of time. They have best gujrati food in the city. Family gatherings always goes well if we are under their roof. A definite winner in gujrati food in city. Great place.
