Review Malwan Hotel - Thane

Prathamesh Padwal
Malvan is restaurant more than a bar. It specialises in Maharashtrian (Malvani) fish food. It is a treat for non-vegetarian. Plus point about the place is they also serve Alcohol. Menu is average in price. Fish is always fresh you order anything. Mutton lovers please visit as you can get fresh mutton and you also get Bheja which is finger licking. Alcohol is costly. Service is not so great. You will have to ask the waiter to serve you as they will not do it on their own. It is a place where you will always have waiting, specially on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The catch is get here before 8:30 and you can get in quickly as it gets crowded post 8:30 pm. Overall a good family restaurant and bar for non-veg maharashtrian food lovers and those who want to have couple of drinks while the food is getting served.

The hotel is good for food taste specially seafoods but whenever we go there was strong smell of phenyl in upper family section which was unbearable while having food. So we stopped going there. Otherwise if you wan to order at home it's a good option.

It's a nice place, usually have to wait for 10-15 min on the weekends, good authentic malvani cuisine. Chicken thali is better than surmai thali, In prawns fry prawns are not cooked well from inside. And in thali I suggest the host to skip Suki machi bhaji. Solkadi, Bhakri, Surmai everything was fresh and awesome. You will not get any Chinese dish here including chicken lolipop. The best thing is that the natural ice cream shop is nearby hotel malvan. The place is a bit noisy as it's a family restaurant. Good place to go with your friends and family to make some more noise. Bon appetite. Adios.

Nice experience enjoyed Fish dishes with fabulous taste recommed visit this hotel... I tried Crab first time in life but it was delicious 😋

Well this place is strictly for non vegetarians. Good ambience. They serve alcohol too but still comfortable for families. Since i am vegetarian and i was there with friends i had to choose from very few vegetarian options. I would definitely not suggest this for vegetarians and based on my friends feedback, must try for non vegetarians to taste authentic Maharashtrian food. We have been there on Friday evening so had to wait for 15 minutes.

Very delicious Malwani food!! It's reasonably priced. We tried crab, prawns, Bombil, pomfret & shell fish. Loved the taste! It's located at Pachpakhadi & can be easily reached from Thane West station road.

Hotel Malwan has been my go-to dining destination for over two decades, and I can confidently attest to the consistent quality and delightful taste of their cuisine. Located in the heart of Thane, the restaurant offers a welcoming and homely ambiance, creating the perfect setting for indulging in some of the finest Malwani dishes. Among my personal favorites, the Bheja Sukkha and Mutton Liver Sukkha are absolute must-tries. The Bombil Fry is a delightful delicacy that should not be missed, and their Mutton Bhaat is a true masterpiece. the chicken and various fish items on their menu are equally delectable. If you're a fan of Malwani cuisine, Hotel Malwan is the place to be.

Taste is awesome. Must try prawns tawa fry 😋. The best malvan style food in town as per the crowd. Liquor rates are high than other normal bars. Just need to improve the ingredients of Solkadhi as Garcinia (Kokam) was missing to have that taste. Overall exp was good.

This place is been my favorite since childhood times. I have fond memories of dinner time with family and it's one of the oldest best restaurant for sea food in thane. I happened to visit it after years and it has got even better with time. I had pompfret thali, chicken pakoda and Bangda fry. And each item I had left taste buds satisfied. The preparation of meat and sea food is very fresh also the staff is very friendly

We tried the Surmai Tawa Fry, Bombil Rawa Fry, Rawas Masala Fry, Rawas Curry, Rawas Fry and Steam Rice, Vades. Just Super and Authentic Malvani food. You can order just Fish Rassa, if you don't want a curry fish. The Rawas Curry and Surmai Tawa Fry (with a light coating of rawa) was one of the best I've had. Absolutely Amazing. End with a well balanced Solkadi. The ambience is simple and average, but clean. Nothing fancy. Prices are reasonable, considering 'its fish'. They also serve a variety of dishes in Mutton, Chicken and are also famous for their Thalis. Service is fast and the waiters will gladly explain you the dishes in case you enquire. Situated at Panch Pakhadi area of Thane close to the junction.

Had ordered Surmai thali , Chicken thali , Teesrya thali and chicken pakoda . Teesrya were very compared to other thalis. In thali you get Rice fish gravy dried prawns gravy fish fry , wada or chapati or bhakri. Fish was ok I would say .

Authentic Malvani food. Famous for its thali system Food quality and quantity is great. Ambience is good for family Located in one of the prime areas of thane ( Panchpakhadi ) Staff is polite and service is fast Price is also reasonable ( thali starting from 250₹ - 400₹ ) Food 10/10 Ambience 7/10 Pricing 8/10 Service 8/10 Quality and hygiene 8/10 Quantity 9/10 There is no range in some areas inside the hotel though 😛 Must try - All types of thali ( Chicken 🍗 , fish 🐟& prawns 🦐) A perfect place for sea food lovers! One thali can serve 1 person with descent appetite or 2 people with kinda small appetite. In frame - 3 plate chicken thali along with komdi wade & surmai tawa fry.

Visited yesterday for a friends birthday party. but very poor service as well as very poor taste.. Me myself being a malvani cannot accept such type of pathetic food being served in the name of malvani food.. Not a single food item near by the taste of malvani food. I dont recommend anyone who are looking for authentic malvani food.

One of the oldest Malwani Hotel In Thane serving super tasty Malwani food since many years! Its located in the most prime area of Thane i.e Panchpakadi. On weekends there is waiting time of minimum 30-45 minutes! They even serve alcohol so they have family section separate! The service is bit slow which can be improved! Now coming to the food
My personal favourite dishes are
Prawns Fry
Chicken Sukkha
Prawns Rice
Solkadhi

Amazing Taste!
Keep it up!

When it comes to having authentic Malvani food, it has to be this place. Thane comprises of so many

restaurants which serves authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. However, after trying a couple of restaurants

I now only head to Malvan to satiate my seafood craving. I’ve now visited here a number of times. In my

recent visit, I ordered:

Bombil fry – this was ok, was way too oily

Green Peas Garlic Fry – the only veg option in starters, quite below average.

Veg Thali – since veg options are so limited, this was the only reliable dish to try. The dal was good, the

tendli subji was a pass.

Surmai Thali – its favourite fish and totally enjoyed, the entire thali which is served with bhakri, rassa,

fish curry, rice and solkadi

Pomfret thali – the fish was really very fresh

Chicken Rice – it a chicken pulao in Malvani masala.
Good spicy, thoroughly enjoyed.

Special Egg Curry – this is a variation of egg curry where there is no boiled egg but scrambled eggs! Yes,

the scrambled eggs are in brown spicy gravy, went so well with bhakri.

Chicken Thali- nice chicken gravy and and chicken curry with coconut flavour. It's my go to thali if not keen for seafood

Masala Papad

The service is quick and staff is very polite. The highlight of this place is value for money.

This place remains at the top but solely for non-veg cravings.

Happy Eating!

Follow @bunsandbottles for more food updates.

This restaurant is well-known for its seafood. The portion of food they serve here is hearty. It is know for its old authentic Malvani dishes. The Surmai fish was fried and the mutton Bhuna was a semi gravy dish. Both the dishes very delicious and the quantity was also appropriate.
The ambience is of any regular fine dine and the service is prompt. This place is a must try for all sea food lovers out there.
Overall experience :5/5
Food:5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Quality :5/5
Service :5/5

I love the food here. Specially the pomfret n bombil fry. All other items are equally good n tasty. Every dish is worth trying. We had ordered shell fish fry masala thali which was awesome. Amboli the rice malvani dosa is yummy too. Just 1 issue they dont deliver the food at your doorstep, not even via zomato or swiggy.

Sunny day, been here for lunch with my few friends, Ordered few Fish starters and Thali.
Please located in Heart if the Thane city, No a posh restaurant, looks like it is pretty old restaurant. As in South Anna restaurant. Decent food and decent service at slightly high price.

We were seated in a cozy place in 1st floor, fish were bit oily rest all were fine.

Must say it’s a good place recommended to families.

Bad service waited for more than half n hour n the quantity was very less came all the way from Powai n had a bad experience never going again nor recommending anyone.

The go-to place for the best Malvani food in Thane. The bombil fry is an absolute must-have. On any day, the Thali is a no-brainer. You got to be lucky enough to be seated within 5 mins. Typical wait time is at least 15 to 20 mins, however it's worth it!

If you enjoy seafood, and you are around Panch Pakhadi, go and try this place. It's a simple place, not so jazz in ambience but good for seafood.

We ordered Surmai Thali, Ravas Thali, Mutton Thali. We also tried Bombil fry and Prawns.

Good food, great hospitality, reasonably priced.
Insane_foodie
This place has a wide variety of seafood proper malvan style and the cost is very reasonable. The thali here is very filling and super cheap and awesome at taste. Great place for seafood lovers!
Abhay Kamath
One of the most famous places for authentic seafood in Thane. Have visited them thrice and must say the prawns based dishes and the special chicken masala gravy stand out in the menu. The bombil fry is worth a mention too.
Definitely worth a visit if you are a sea food enthusiast.
Spshetty
Went here for lunch , the waiters are welcoming , we ordered bombil fry, the fish was fresh and is fried like fish tempura , rawas fry was again very tasty and had chunks of rawas fried to perfection . The king prawns masala was again very tasty and we had that with chapatis .the fish they serve is fresh which is the best part of this restaurant. Reasonable priced. The only downside is they don’t deliver at home.

Food was okay. Wait was long...ambiance was very mushy...a typical smell in the air which can make one very uncomfortable after some time. Overall...not a very good experience...

Best place for fish lovers . Food quality is the best . Quantity is also pretty well . Best place for family lunch’s and dinner’s . Drawback is the Parking issue .

Wanted to try out at this place after seeing the crowds during weekend evenings ...seems that it's not living upto the mark and taste for which it was known earlier . Had ordered pomfret thali - the main piece cud do with more spices as it was very bland in taste, while the curries served were extremely spicy. Cost wise too it seemed to be bit on the higher side considering the quantity served for both starters and main course.
Vedanka Karandikar
Hotel Malvan is my all time favourite restaurant. I have been there plenty of times. Food is sublime & service is quick. Pocket friendly, clean, tasty food paired with a couple of drinks goes well with a pleasant evening. I would recommend this restaurant for someone who is looking for an authentic malvani sea food palette with family, freinds or oneself.

Located in Panchpakadi, this is our family's go-to restaurant for seafood. Have been visiting this place for years. Hotel Malvan is spacious and homey. This place can get crowded sometimes, especially on weekends.

Food tastes heavenly. Bombil fry is a must try. Pomfret fry, Bangda fry is exquisite. They have a large variety of thalis. I would recommend pomfret thali with vade. We also had prawns masala (chutney), chicken sukha thali, Vegetable thali. To sum it up, everything here tastes delicious.

Service here is really good. Staff is polite and respectful. Price seems justified for the quality and the quantity of food you get.

Food: 4/5
Ambience: 3.5/5
Service: 4/5
Quantity: 4/5
Price: 4/5

I would recommend this restaurant. The service was very good. Our waiter was very personable and very efficient. Our food was very good, price was fair. The restaurant itself was good. I visited this place on 1st May, hence it was not crowded (you know what I mean). The starters served was good and tasty. It was fresh. Please see attached photo for reference. As they have bar section as well, it will be a win-win situation for alcoholic person. Don’t drink and drive/ride.
Prashant Bhosale
Had fried pomfret & prawns at Malvan and it was really fresh, soft and tasty. Kombdi-wade were tasty as well. Recommended place, would love to visit again! :)

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. There was a bit of rush, I guess as Mumbaikar's don't call it Sunday if they don't eat Fish or chicken.

We had ten minutes waiting time before we were let in.

As I was going to eat fish after a long time, so I was quite sure what to try this time.

We ordered two thalis, one Kaalwa Thali and other Surmai Thali. And extra Bombil (Bombay duck) fry as a side dish.

The quantity was sufficient tosatisfy the hungry stomach and quality to soothe your taste buds.
The Kaalwa masala was sumptuous.

Bombil fry was also decent in a plate with number of six, crispy fried, fresh medium size Bombay duck. It could have been spicy which I missed.

The Surmai Thali had two big pieces of Fish fried. Both the two pieces were cut from middle portion of the fish which provides you most of the fleshy part for eating unlike the head and the tail section of the fish body.

To digest the eaten fish and for a clean closure there was pink solkadhi which couldn't have been more better.

Ambience is decent enough, even though the restaurant is less spacious but what pulls the crowd here is the taste!!!

The staff is quick as they understand the long queues on Sunday of hungry customers.

Overall I would rate this restaurant a 4/5 for taste, 4/5 for service and 3.5/5 for ambience.

This was my third visit to hotel malvan and will definitely revisit next time.

You can get extremely delicious malvani cuisine here. The prawns fry, chicken sukka, chicken sagoti, etc. Every dish has its own identity. The quantity given is sufficient for the people to eat.

Authentic Food and Simple malwani style food .
Tried there fish thali , Large surmai Fry ( which was quite big in size )
Price wise slightly higher But very popular and always crowded on weekends .
there chicken fry dry is also good , Rawas Fry and Bombil.

Try there prawns Birayni and Mutton Sukkah other than fish regular items

1) Tawa fry Halwa
Hotel Malwan is known for its authentic sea food..They have different sections for the people who want to booze and for the family dining..Though they have comfortable seating arrangement on two floors this place is over crowded and people have to wait for hours especially during dinner time..Under starters ordered ‘Tawa fry Halwa’ that was really good in taste..Fish was fresh and very well cooked..They serve it with pudhina chutney..

2) Surmai Thali
Dinner would be incomplete without having thali at Malvan..Hence ordered 'Surami Thali’. Served with one fried Surmai, two types of rassas ,solkadi, rice and bhakri ( U can also choose kombdi vade instead of bhakri)..Every bite will satisfy You as the fish was very well marinated with all the Indian spices….

Disappointed with the quality of bhakri and rice..Bhakri was not soft and Rice seemed to be of cheap quality..

Overall wouldn't say it was worth the money..Would recommend to go for a normal fried Surmai rather than the Thali..

Food - ❤❤❤
Ambience - ❤❤
Service - ❤❤❤
Over hyped placed. Fish thali is really disappointing with the quantity served. Also the quality is not that great when compared with malwani food.Fish fry wasn't fresh. Rice quality they use is also very cheap standard. Also the waiters are quite slow.I won't recommend this place for Malvani food.

If you've had real Konkani, rather Malvani food in life, prepare to be disappointed. Yes, the service is fast. Yes, ambiance is okay. But I went there for good food and was served super oily fish fry which was covered in bland batter, tasteless chicken thali which had 5 pieces of chicken and two weird curries, which had neither chicken nor fish stocks.

If you were a vegetarian all your life and just discovered that you have a carnivore side, you might just like this below average ordeal.

Don't take any of the reviews about 'awesome food' seriously and save yourself from this underwhelming experience.

Truely really yummy authentic sea food. Tried this amazing prawns fry out there, loved it. Also the fish starters were fresh and the service was quick. Good staff. Though a small place, but food is 👍🏻👌🏻

Went with family specially for Fish Thali ! Total disappointment!! 300 per thali such a waste !! Surmai thali they don’t even give any Masala type gravy to eat with Kombdi wade !! 2 bland liquidy rassas with no taste at all. Total waste and disappointment!! Ordered Egg Masala to compensate the meal but the waiter handed Egg Curry !! And the waiter tells after getting the dish that they don’t have Egg masala !! WOW !!

If you want to eat the Worst fish thali in thane please do come here !!

@WTF- Where's The Food!!🍻
Bon appetite!! Eat like no one is watching..and that's exactly I did. The authentic malvan food = Hotel Malvan. Weekend + Crave to eat seafood + friends+ booze. The food here is simply fresh and tasty. This place has all types of diners. They have various sections depending on the number of people and their classifications. We ordered for few drinks and than food according to their speciality, menu availability and our temptation.🌶️🍗🍖🥚🍤🍣🍽️🍻🐟🦀🦐.... and trust me...the chicken, mutton and seafood is amazing here, taste is awesome. The Solkadi was soothing after a heavy meal. The ambiance is average and seating is comfortable. Service was good. Affordable menu pricing. Good location. I shall surely recommend this place and will plan to visit soon. Cheers👍

Have heard a lot about this place earlier so finally decided to pay a visit.
Hotel Malvan, as the name suggests, specialises in Malvani cuisine that originated in the 'Konkan' region of Maharashtra and as Seafood domniates Malvani cuisine, I hogged on seafood out here..
•FOOD: The entire meal was too good to be described in words but here are my personal favorites..CLAM SUKKA(also called as Tisrya Sukka), ⭐️FRIED PRAWNS⭐️and The CLAM MASALA THALI. Along with all the above, I also tried the CHICKEN FRY and SUKKA CHICKEN THALI.
The Thali comes with options of selecting either the Wheat Chapatis, Rice Bhakri or the Malvani wada. I was throughly impressed with the food cause no flavour in any dish overpowered the other. The delicate balance amongst the flavours was a bomb.
•AMBIENCE: Casual and comfortable dining area. No negative points on this one. (This place gets full during meal hours)
•SERVICE: The staff gives great recommendations and the service is good.
•VALUE FOR MONEY: Moderately priced, the check doesn't feel heavy on the pocket.
Overall, loved this place and am definately looking forward to visit again.😊

I went here with my family. Overall experience was not at all good. Over that choosing menu was so annoying because it has very limited dishes. Also the dishes are made like to loot customers. Finally we decided to have pomfret thali but again it was not having full fish but only piece of fish. I felt like I'm paying for rice, bhakri and salad that too around 350-400 per plate. They have serious issue with quantity with high price. Just a loooooot.
Not at all recommend this place.

One of the best places to visit for Malvani cuisine - teesra masala, Mutton sukkha and fish curry are must haves. Variety of fish on offer is very good, go for the tava fry and try the prawn masala.

After listiening to all nice reviews, decide to visit this place. Had to wait for 15 min as it was full. Table we get was in dark corner. Plus mosqitoes were biting our foot. We decide to have mutton vade and paneer burji. For us, mutton vade was disaster. Paneer burji was tasty so was "tandalachi bhakari".

Those who want to waste money Visit Hotel Malvan.
I have ordered in started chicken Pokada, the chicken pieces are so small like marbles. Just looting the customer. The fish gravy item are tasteless. The solkadi is like water.
Will inform all the friends not to visit the Hotel Malvan in future any time.

Fish curry and bhakri were nice, prawn rice was strictly OK. Rawas fry was a waste. Soul curry was soulful. Kaalwa was in starters but cooked like egg bhurji.

The best destination to satisfy your sea food cravings. True to it's name, serves various seafood dishes with the famous malvani masalas.
Ambience gives the vibes of any typical family restaurant. Prices are also average.
Fulfilling and delicious!

There is always fresh malvani aroma whenever we cross by this lane..ppl who love spicy, Maharashtrian, malvani taste this is best for them... Their seafood is more preferable than chicken or mutton,, the typical bhakari has amazing quality,, and quite reasonable... You can also order thru swiggy as they have collabed with them..

Have been here couple of times, love the seafood and chicken here! Typical Maharashtrian style food they serve. Average ambience, very good pricing and great taste! On my recent visit we ordered chicken sukkha- which was amazing in taste. Proper Maharashtrian style masala and u would definitely end up lickingbur fingers! The chicken too was very fresh!
A bhakri with it, which was very soft and tasty! It couldn't have been better. A prawns masala. Was made with baby prawns which again were very fresh and the masala gravy was mouth watering!
Solkadi- again so fresh and so tasty! Rarely I have had better than this
Great food and very affordable pricing! The service was very good and prompt too.

Ambience: 7/10
Food: 9/10
Service:8.5/10
Price: 9/10
Quantity:8/10

I had gone to this restaurant with my friends on Friday. This place is really good and ambience was better. Amazing food! All sea food lovers will really like it. We order kalva for starters which i tasted for first time and i really like it. We order chicken handi, pomfret fry and prawns. All were really nice and good in taste. The service in restaurant is really quick and staff is also really good.

Though its famous for the authentic Malvani food we were bit disappointed with the fish starters that we ordered, we were planning for Thalis as mainly suggested by reviewers but didnt find it that promising so we went ahead with a la cart, for starters Bombil fry was too oily & probably deep fried for the sake of making it crunchy (it lost its charm); prawns fry was just ok & nothing special as such, for main course we had rice bhakris which were nicely made & Malvani special mutton which was malvani in taste but could have been better, good part was sol-kadi, we would surely recommend just it. Service is very good but seating seems to be little congested. We would skip this place if for next time.

Food - 2.5
Pricing - 3
Service - 4
Ambience - 2.5

Hotel Malvan an authentic Konkani cuisine. The restaurant had too many seating arrangements,. a bit conjusted where we had occupied the seat. It had a seperate bar area and family dine in. The restaurant had two storey seating arrangement.

We ordered hotel Malvan chicken sukka and vade, Surmai fry, kolambi rice and sol Kadi. Surmai fry was wonderfully blended with spices to impart a rich flavour to the fresh fish. Food had typical konkani and home made taste. Vegetarians have less options here, so all the seafood lovers should visit this restaurant. Food was best! Recommended to try all above!

Service was quick. We got our order in 10 minutes. Restaurant should work on waiting time, long queues will be definitely seen on weekends. Suggestions- prior reservations would help.! Good part is staff was very quick at their services.

Rating- 8/10
