Review Purohit Cafe - Udaipur

Subodh Verma सुबोध वर्मा
I have newly moved to Udaipur from southern India and have been desperately looking for some authentic restaurant for South Indian food like Dosa and Idly. This restaurant happens to be awesome 🤩 for South Indian variety of cuisine. The taste is amazing with many types of chutney. Service is very quick without much waiting and warm food. Prices are very reasonable. I would love to visit the restaurant regularly.

Good place to have authentic south indian food. You can choose this restaurant if you are with family. Their sambhar is awasome
Arun Kumar
A restaurant which serves only South Indian and a few chats. The service is excellent. They have put in great effort to prepare authentic south Indian dishes. The best part for me was the guy serving Sambar and chutneys all the time. All in all its not as good as what you get in south India but still very good.

The food is really good and delicious. Their masala dosa is just awesome. Whenever we want to eat something south Indian we go their. Their is also unlimited sambar, chutney with dosa.

The place offers the best South Indian food you'll find in town, period. Having lived out of udaipur and comparing the south Indian cuisine from those cities too this place outshines the rest. There's a reason a restaurant has been running successfully for more than 3 decades. Loved the food and I'd recommend everyone to come and try it out

We tried 4 dishes and everything was simple, and tasty. Usually it's difficult to find a decent South-Indian food restaurant, we found this place searching randomly and the experience turned out pretty good. I highly recommend this restaurant even if you are about 10 km away and looking for a place for grub.

The place is an old and famous one for south Indian food in Udaipur. The sambhar was great, coconut chutney needs little improvement, tomato one was good. The Dosas could be crispier. Normal dosa texture was not that great, though rawa one was better. Overall its a good place in the city to have Dosa. The waiting management on the weekends is bad, the waiting time on weekends is around an hour. People break waiting queues by hook or by crook which is highly disappointing.

Don’t go for the ambience. But the food is just awesome. If you like rawa dosa - go for it. It will be one of the best you ever had. One of the small but delicious South Indian food service restaurant in Udaipur. Closed on Monday

The food is delicious. Masala Dosa and Idli Sambhar is a must try. Coming here since childhood. Highly recommended.

I have been going there since my childhood with my family.
Best place to savour the taste of authentic dosas in udaipur.
Awesome cheap dosas with unlimited chutneys and sambhar.
I added cheese to Mysore masala Dosa and one Dosa is enough to fill me up.
We also ordered chole bhature which comes with 2 king size bhaturas and good portion of medium spicy chole.
My parents being rava Dosa fans ordered Ghee Rava mix veg Dosa and Butter rava Mysore masala dosa, they were also nice.
All over great food not hard on your pocket.
I would love if they also start keeping authentic gun powder with ghee to enjoy much more real taste of South.
P. S. : They haven't changed their menu since long keeping up the quality and quantity of our meals ❤️
Pushkar Purohit
Best chola bhatura I ever had
Whenever we say SOUTH INDIAN FOOD in Udaipur, one name comes to mind is PUROHIT CAFE.

Their dosas, uttapam, fried idli and many things all are best with unlimited sambhar, coconut chutneys. If you are fan of South Indian food must visit this place.

Food taste & quality - 5 star (excellent)
Ambience - 3 star
Staff response & service - 5 star
Price - Just High

I am living in Udaipur, so I can declare Purohit Cafe & Sankalp as best south Indian restaurants.

Awesome DOSA and south indian. An average foodie can easily get enough by single masala dosa but will crave more for it. Taste is yummy . I always recommend my friends to go there.

Purohit cafe is one of the oldest restaurants serving south Indian cuisine in udaipur. In fact I first tasted south Indian dishes here only when I was little. They are serving constant taste and quality since years. Their service is also pretty fast. They serve various types of dosa, idli, vada, uttapams, coffee, dahi vada, chaat items and chhole bhature.
This time we had a plate of dahi vada, fried idli and veg rava masala dosa. If you like your dosa crisp then you can ask to keep masala aside like I did.
All the south Indian dishes are served with unlimited sambhar, nariyal chutney, green chutney and tomato chutney that I love the most.
Here fried idli doesn't mean rava fried idli pieces along with masalas and veggies.
They deep fry idli pieces until they are crispy from outside.
If you like south Indian dishes then do give purohit cafe a try, they do not operate on fridays so keep that in mind while planning your lunch or dinner here.
It is very famous thus you won't have any trouble finding it.
It is inside Anand plaza which is opposite Raajwada restaurant.
Follow us on Instagram @the_foodie_lass for more such reviews and drool worthy pictures.
Till then
Happy Munching ❤

dosas are amazing....but if anybody is looking for ambience or peaceful or beautiful atmosphere than it is not the right place for u...it is usually crowded that people are waiting outside to get their chance...so go for south indian food only not for ambience
Yash Raj Bhati
Very good . Each dosa tastes best . Uttapam is also best . Ambience is good . Prices are little expensive but it is ok.
And Papadi chaat is very tasty.
Roshni Choudhary
Am amazing place...... Dosa here is famous in all of udaipur. Service is super fast. We went here with family to have dosa specially. Loved the place and taste.

Crispy , wafer thin piece of heaven with amalgamation of cheese .❤️
.
.
One of the most important attractions of the south!!
Cheese Masala Dosa...one of the dishes which would definitely satiate your cheesy hunger cravings. 😄
.
.
A South Indian bae ....Dosa is nowadays stealing the show!!! Soft , gooey , cheesy and savoury!!!
Nutrition of some veggies mashed with some spices..all wrapped in love ...served along with fresh coconut chutney and sambhar ...is absolutely satisfying .❣️
The cheese shredded all over the Dosa is just like cherry on the cake .

In terms of South Indian Food they serve Very Fabulous, you can get south Indian Touch food in Udaipur at this place .

But in terms of Chats they charge A lot and Nothing in return as served .

Sambhar they Serve has a Lot Chennai Touch I'n that.

Can also Determine as a Pocket Friendly restaurant.
Pranshu Dad
One of the oldest cafes in town, staff is gentle and polite. Closed on Fridays. Best South Indian dishes are served here. Try their idli, vada or any type of Dosa all of them are good. They also serve very Good Chhola Bhatura ask for it. Overall a good place to eat.
Ayushi Mogra
Nice place for south Indian food lovers . I guess the most famous place among udaipurites.
Delicious food and especially their Mysore Masala Dosa is the yummiest.
Please don't go on the interior and all other stuff here ....they serve superb food .

We were bored of eating Rajasthani food when we were in Rajasthan. So, we decided to try south indian. I was not expecting but this place offers amazing south indian food. Everything we ordered was really good. Service was quick. N it's not expensive too.

But, ambience is not that great. It's very normal. But they have maintained cleanliness.

Great food at less prize. We all loved it.
Avni Singh
Never disheartening me when it comes to South Indian Food
MYSORE MASALA DOSA and MASALA DOSA with garlic Chutney and Green Coriander Chutney
The Sambhar and Coconut Chutney are the best things which are unlimited.
The interior has been recently changed but it's not too fancy and but the staff is alert.
Don't go on the interiors to judge the food because it's undoubtedly the best in the city
A must visit when in UDAIPUR
Prateek Goyal
It's my family's all time favourite joint.
It's a very old and famous restaurant of the city.
Ambience or the sitting is nothing fancy. So don't expect too much.
Dont expect the service to be very fast if you are going on a weekend. As it's mostly full especially in the peek hours.
A must visit place if you are a fan of south Indian cuisine.
I recently went here with a friend for dinner. It is the oldest South Indian cafe in Udaipur. This was our first visit. To start with, the interior is very dull, makes you wanna go back. They make you sit with complete strangers and the sitting is also low class and not at all comfortable. As soon as you enter, your mind tells you to go back. Anyway we were very hungry and so decided to eat. We ordered a cheese masala dosa and a rava masala dosa. When the order came, it was not at all what I expected. There was no masala in masala dosa and by that I mean, there was no potato masala which is usually present in a "masala dosa". I got very angry. When I confronted the waiter about this, he told they don't put potato in cheese masala dosa and rather the stuffing is of "cheese masala". At the time of bill payment, I confronted the owner sitting at the counter. He too said the same thing. When I rebelled about this and told him that usually there is potato masala wherever I've had cheese masala dosa, that idiot told me to go eat somewhere else. Don't bother me. This thing irritated me to my core. I asked him to talk respectfully and mention on the menu what they actually serve. To this he said don't teach me my work. My blood was boiling at this moment. Anyway my friend calmed me and we left. I want to say to you guys never ever visit this cafe. It doesn't deserve even half a star. They don't know how to talk to their customers and instead humiliate them. Service is too poor. They don't deserve to be open. My college canteen is better than this cafe. It's a sh***y cafe. Never ever go here guys, you'll be disappointed. And the owner is the biggest of all idiots.

It was sincerely nice experience to visit this place.Amazing place for those who loves south indian food.
If you feel bore from pizzas, burger and all these types of fast food, then you may try this place for different taste.
You definitely satisfied with food of this place.
Rating according to my view.
Food:
Dahi Puri: 4/5
Bhel puri:3/5(because I don't like sweet food,I am craving for spicy food.if you love sweet food then you may give 5 rating to it.,)
Chole bhature : 4.5/5 ( it's really amazing.You must try this.)
Onion uttapam 4/5 ( it is too tasty with coconut chutney)
Dosa 5/5( place is famous for this, and "sambar" is really delicious.)
Hospitality 4/5
Ambience 3/5
Remember you should book table in advance if you go in night, because may be you wait in queue sometimes.

Decent place to have your meals. Especially famous for its south indian food but you can also have chhole bhature. Best south indian food in udaipur. The ambience is not that great it's kind ok but always remain full and it's always chirpy here.
Kirti
I had masala dosa here which was priced at Rs.120 the taste is just o.k. the sambar had cluster beans and capsicumin it. If you had dosa before in Banglore you may not like the dosa here.
Alok Nahar
Cool south Indian cuisine with a retro feel. Popular among locals here. No other dosa in Udaipur competes with the one served here. They have successfully maintained consistency in taste and hygene over all these years even after expansion. Never disappointed in terms of service and taste. Generous on pocket too. Must be in you list of eateries if visiting as a tourist here.

This place serves awesome south Indian food at competitive prices . When I visited this restaurant I had south indian food and some chaats . The south indian food is really good, if u are in the area it is a must visit place . The restaurant also serves chola bhature and other similar items but they are just ok .

Local basic place to try traditional south Indian food and filter coffee, the place is very basic and yet serves very amazing food with amazing service.

So many times I have been reached there... it's totally family restaurant.. best place for south Indian dish... Dahi vada is really tasty... this cafe has been giving service last 13 years... 👍

If you are craving for Dosa in Udaipur, this is the place. The taste of dosa, sambhar and chutney have been the same since last 12 years of what I remember. Ambience is fine and won't matter much if the food is good.

There is no cafe over there i went today ..!
the cafe has been closed 12 months before ..
now there is not cafe as such it is shown in my location
Divyanshu
Were I to put my review two years back this place would have got 4 easily.
But don't know why the quality and taste is degraded, the sambhar and chutnies no more appealing.
Still the dosa here is good and can be considered over other available options.
A place easy on pocket but loosing it's authenticity god knows why.

Of whatever little options udaipur has for south indian food purohit cafe is probably the safest bet. Their onion rava masala dosa is the best and the bhel puri is decent too. But everything else is barely average, the uthapans are nauseatingly sour and the most important component of a south indian restaurant the sambar is not upto the mark. Again the low rating because I am used to way better south indian food but by udaipur's standard this place is decent.
Lovish Bhansali
The cafe is pretty decent & budget one. One can get good south Indian food here & the hospitality is great... But it seems to be losing it's taste.... You can visit.... Must try Mysore Masala Dosa, Bhel Puri, Sev Puri & Papdi Chaat too.....
Pratiksha !!
Best dosa in udaipur !
Perfect crisp and absolutely delicious sambhar.
The place is like any other 90's cafe. Not a perfect place for all picture lovers. But the dosa and uttapam here are unbeatable. Been there many times and i am never disappointed !

Service can be a bit slow as the waiters are not well trained.

Always on top of my list for South Indian cuisine.

Purohit Cafe is one of the popular joint as South Indian food restaurant situated in Udaipur at Anand plaza. It serves delicious south Indian delicacies to its customer. Purohit Dont use Onion and Garlic in their preparation thus it is safest point for Jain people too.

Restaurant is air-conditioner and located in the Basement of Plaza. it cut the hot weather of Udaipur.

Their Rawa Masala dosa is highly recommended I also loved their Coconut dip and Mint dip as accomplishment.

Prices are very pocket friendly and affordable/

Service need to be improved in right way . Guys weren't appearing attentive

I honestly don't get the hype. The food is pretty average. The sambhar tastes below average. Dosas are okayish, nothing really great.
Ambiance is average too.
Overall rating - 3/5

One of the good and oldest south Indian food provider . it is the place where you can found one of the traditional and typical taste of dosa and idlies

Ever since we have settled down in Udaipur, we have been on the lookout for good South Indian food. We had it at Bombay Market , Sukhadia : not good enough. We had it at Vaango! (Lake city mall) : good but pricey.
Then we heard about Purohit Café. There are table reservations , long wait , we were lucky to have gotten a seat there :D there is nothing fancy about the place but the food for taste. That's all you want, right?
We ordered for a butter Masala dosa , one plate idli , one plate vada , one coffee and one slice.
The serving is a little slow because of the rush. However, you get refills for sambhar and chutney promptly.
We had our tummy full ! 😀

One of the best places to have south indian food in udaipur. Though prices are little high, the taste of the food will be awesome particularly Sambar. Not recommended on saturday nights as waiting time will be very high.

Been eating South Indian food here right from my childhood days and thus holds a special place always. Quality has degraded a little bit over the years but still love this place. This restaurant holds a legendary status in the town.
