Review Woodlands Restaurant - Udupi

This is one of my best veg restaurants in Udupi. Great and quick service. Food is exclusively great taste. I love South Indian special meals and we get the best goli bhaji here.

Want good vegetarian restaurant in Udupi. Woodland is the best. Ordered Masala Papad, Papdi Chat, Masala Dosa, Paper Masala Dosa, Choupsey, Meals. Everything was perfect and yummy 🤤 Most Important the service was really great 👍. That's why it was so full and managed properly. I will visit again if ever coming to Udupi and you must visit too.

Must visit place for vegetarians..This hotel is located behind Udupi Krishna temple and better go by walk ..Not much parking space available near hotel as it’s a very thin road..Tried the pineapple sheera and it was very yummy and all the breakfast options are very good ..Must visit hotel at Udupi

A traditional vegetarian restaurant this one is popular amongst Locals/travellers. While their main cuisines are south Indian/konkani, North Indian items are also served. Prices are moderate & the food quality is good. But the ambience is poor & badly needs a make-over. Limited road side parking available.

It looks like kind of hyped restaurant. Service was poor. There tastes good. looks neat and clean. But there were not any wow factor in any of the dishes we ordered. No food tastes bad. over all a good veg restaurant in the locality. But not the must visit one.

Had idly wade mosuru vade otthu shavige buns hot Badam milk Ksheera. Serving , hygiene and taste was really good . You would get kottuge and many other authentic udupi style veg dishes

Hotel looks very small from outside, but when we enter inside, we can see a very spacious hotel with a good atmosphere and it's very much neat and clean. It's too crowded but it's not effecting their service at all. They give food with 5 minutes and it's very tasty. We ordered Vada, masaladosa, and leaf idli. It's mouth watering. Must visit restaurant and recommending to others.

visited Woodlands Restaurant today with my family. The hotel is well-maintained with good vibes. We ordered Paneer Tikka Masala, which was tasty, but the South Indian thali was mediocre. Overall, it's a good place to enjoy a meal with your loved ones.

Long wait for table, but food was reasonably priced and served fast and food was delicious. Situated in a corner and in basement. Worth a try. In addition to South Indian dishes, you can find North Indian and Chinese food specialties. But they even make pizza. Babycorn Mancurian can't be made as well anywhere.

Visited for Breakfast. Loved the Sambar dipped idly and vada, Paper dosa, Open dosa and Mangalore buns. Atomosphere is little dingy as its underground but service is good and quick.

As a foodie, We try many places but some places just stay in our heart forever.❤️

For me, Woodlands Restaurant Udupi is one such place. We visited here on our last trip to Udupi. We heard a lot about Woodlands Restaurant so we went here for our dinner. The seating was AC & ambience was great.👌

As per the recommendations, we quickly ordered South Indian Special Thali which is unlimited ( Not allowed to share ). The thali contains - 1/2 Soup, Puris, Kurma, 1 Cup Pulav, 1 Happalam, Rasam, Sambar, Dal, Rice, Dry Veg, 1 Cup Curd, 1 Sweet & 1 Cup Ice-cream. We requested & got extra Kurma, Puris, Rice & Dal.😋

For dessert, we ordered Gadbad Ice-cream.😉

The service was quick. The staff were friendly & just as family members they insisted us to have extra kurma-puris. The prices are pocket friendly which makes this place a great value for money.👌

We Tried -

South Indian Special Thali - 185 Rs.

Gadbad Ice-cream - 125 Rs.

Virgin Mojito - 70 Rs.

Overall a highly Recommended Place ✌️👍

Don't miss this place when you visit Udupi.🙂

Amazing veg restaurant. Been visiting since I was a kid. All the dishes are good. Especially the chats and the thalis.
Ambience 5/5
Taste 4/5
Pricing 4/5

Woodlands restaurant needs no introduction, it's one of the oldest establishment in Udupi. This legendary restaurant serves both South Indian and North Indian vegetarian cuisine. We had ghee masala dosa, moode, banana bun and filter coffee. Believe me that ghee masala dosa was thick, golden, spongy and crunchy at the same time. It's very rare to witness all those things in one dosa. Banana bun was really hot when they served and that fried dough has all the flavour of banana. Moode was also good and that filter coffee was fantastic. Ambience of this place is great and they have traditional themed decor. If you are in Udupi, then don't miss this legendary place.

Woodlands is said to be the oldest restaurant in Udupi, and it is still one of the most favourite places to have classy family dining experiences. Its a vegetarian restaurant, serves North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and some awesome dessert. Waiters are always on their toes to make your experience worthwhile. They suggest the items as per your taste preferences, service is prompt.
On my first visit I ordered: Badam milkshake, Corn cheese nuggets, Butter Naan, Mushroom Babycorn Paneer Masala (must try) and Gajar ka Halwa with Vanilla ice cream.
All of them were perfect!

There is huge difference in Woodlands of 10 years ago and now. Items ordered were not up to the mark for the benchmark setup by Woodland Udupi. Suggest management to improve the quality and bring good old golden days back soon.

For Veg in Udupi, definitely Woodlands, love their Thali, good place for family. Clean and the decor is really good

After reading good reviews here we reached this place .We had Mangalore buns, Rava masala dosa, Masala dosa and chai(masala and normal) . The buns served hot with chutney was something new to try but not that worth to try , it was like sweet fried bread. Dosa was tasty and served hot .Then we ordered normal chai which is less in quantity . Since we were craving more for chai due to rainy weather we ordered masala chai which actually satisfied our chai craving. All in all it was good place to have south indian food at reasonable price

I just lived this place. Woodland in quite old place with authentic South Indian food.
The staff is quite humble and polite
We order quite a few things and few I recommend are banana bun, masala dosa, wada and don't forget to have filtered coffee ☕
Overall very good experience in UDUPI

We took a special thali and it was exactly what we wanted. Loaded with little bowls, portions are good and the taste is excellent. Looked authentic and tastes delicious. I liked most of the dishes. They even give an ice cream to end the meal

I have visited Woodlands in Udupi since around 1990s. They serve some of the best veg food in Udupi. They are equally good and South Indian and North Indian. I like their gadbad, sandwiches, chats, paneer butter masala, dosas. Service is fast. The cleanliness is bit lacking and definitely should be improved.

This place is a heaven for taste buds. Each and every item in this restaurant has a unique taste and is the best one I have ever tasted. Jeera Rice with Dal Fry and Dal Khichdi are must try. I long to visit this place more often but unfortunately it is very far from Chennai. Apart from the awesome food, the service was excellent. The service was very quick without any lag. To summarize it was a mouth watering experience and I highly recommend this restaurant.

Woodlands plays a pivotal role in relishing my childhood memories and all the happy moments with my family coming over here since I ever knew of life..If you ever happen to visit Udupi, then never leave an opportunity to visit this authentic South Indian restaurant as it offers a classic tulunad dishes and exotic South Indian eatables..There are times I check in here with my brother just to nourish myself on to a tomato and trust me guys, you would never find a restaurant like this anywhere in the world ❤️ A Proud Udupite 💫
Raghuvir Keni Jr.
Woodlands hotel is one of the best veg restaurants I have ever been too in the udupi-manipal area. The cost to quality ratio is one of best. In comparison to some non veg restaurants I would choose woodland veg food over chicken !

Taste ? Check. Service ? Check. Ambience ? Check. The only issue for me is that the menu is just a bit pricey. One can argue that it's because of the quality of the food and service. But even then it's just a bit pricey. Tad bit. But You won't be disappointed. To experience the Restaurant you have visit and eat there instead of getting it delivered. You might have to wait at times as the Restaurant is packed almost always. No problem. I'm asking You to visit because you'll understand why it's popular first hand, an experience which You will not get if you just order delivery.

A visit to Udupi means lunch at Woodlands. I’ve yet to have breakfast here, but the lunch is simply superb!

I had the Special South Indian Thali, and as an appetizer, had Gobi Manchurian too. The Gobi was surprisingly good! And the Thali came with an unlimited serving of Poori and rice. If I remember, it costs Rs 250. I loved all the dishes served along with the Thali, and definitely vouch for it.

During lunchtime, the place can get extremely crowded. It’s a given, considering the good food and it’s proximity to the Krishna Temple. The ambiance is a mix of old school and some modern touches. Service can either be a hit or miss. It was both for me, the guy at the entrance seemed a bit rude at the beginning. He later lightened up a bit, just wish he’d smile and reciprocate when his restaurant’s being complimented.

Pure Veg, super Thalis. A perfect formula. Just wish the parking problem wasn’t as bad as it actually is.

Really an amazing place for family gatherings. This is the only restaurant that has been our family all-time-favourite since almost 10-12 years. Amazing place🌻

Krishna (foodieyogikrishna)
This restaurant is a boon in Udupi . Just 2 minute walk from the Shri Krishna Mutt. Located in a basement ... the entrance is a unconventional climb down.. but upon entering the dining hall has a charm.

Khara pongal laced with loads of Ghee... Krishna loves it!@ 😀. Neer Dosa+ coco-jaggery with chutney was perfect!! The Masala Dosa also had good amount of Ghee . Overall the best breakfast in our entire trip

Woodlands is clearly a 4.5 but Zomato doesn't allow that rating anymore 😑. Breakfast is too good to be missed!

Wow. Amazing restaurant.

You can taste the best of Udupi Cuisine, the authentic Idlis, Dosas, Sambar and Chutney.

A must try restaurant where ever you are!!

I would rate 5/5 for quality, taste, rate, ambiance, and authenticity! The best simply.

Must try- Sambar Idli, Dosas and tiffin items.

Adding pictures! This stays in my heart. One of best restaurants I have ever visited!

Peace,sairam.

Woodlands Restaurant is a pure veg restaurant located in the heart of Udupi town. It is a comparatively cheaper place to dine in. The place is perfect for all the vegetarians to have good veg food meeting their expectations. They also serve snack items like pani puri, sev puri as well for all the chatpate fanatics. It is a good place to try if you are in town.

Ambience- Its spacious and situated in basement with good ventilation and multiple rooms for seating. Its air conditioned and dim lit. One room is a bit of congested.

Pocket friendly- A little costly for the quantity and quality served.

Food- Wada here was good, non oily, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Sambar was also good with right amount of spice. Coconut chutney was tasty too.

Mangalore banana buns were served hot. It was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.

Tea served was good, strong with right amount of sweetness. However, serving it in a glass makes it difficult to drink especially when the tea is served so hot.

Service- Quick and prompt. One thing I disliked was the used plates and cutleries being collected and put in a carrier situated right in between the hall. It sent out an odour.

Rating- 3.5 as the used collection bin could be situated elsewhere. Also the prices could be lowered.
Aishwarya
Curd rice was not good. The rice was cooked more than required and so the curd rice was not at all tasting good. It would be good if you improve the quality of curd rice.
Anirudh
All time favorite restaurant for any meal of the day. Even the chaats here are pretty much authentic for a south indian restaurant. Wide variety of Chinese and North Indian items for dinner would please the non south Indian crowd also. Service is good and on time. Ambience is ok ok.
Nihal

Coming from Bangalore where you are spoilt for choices, it is difficult when we travel places.

But Woodlands in Udupi has it all. Amazing taste and quick service.

But you will have to take a token and wait. Easily 15-30 minutes of wait time.

Review:
Food:4.5/5
Service :4/5
Value for food: 4/5
Ambience :4/5
Total: 4/5

Probably the best Vegetarian eat out in Udupi. Been running for quite a long time and has been consistent on the quality of food throughout the years

Beautiful ambience. Service was warm and welcoming. We ordered idli vada, masala dosa and biscoot roti. Idli was fantastic..the best idli I had ever. Vada was good. Masala dosi too was really nice. Biscoot rooting not my favorite. So overall I rate 4.

Perfect for south Indian breakfast food- dosa, idlis, whatever it is!

Super quick service and an authentic udupi experience is gauranteed here.

Ambience : 7/10
Food : 6/10
Location : 8/10

This restaurant is located in the heart of the city udupi near Krishna mutt where lot of tourists come to visit.
Only couple of dishes are worth tasting like the south Indian thali , chole bhature, leaf idli. Some of the dishes which I tasted and didn’t liked are Mughalai biryani, sweet corn soup , paneer butter masala. The taste was not upto the mark as expected.
Avinash
This place is an absolute must for South Indian cusine. Their north indian menu is good, but not great. Have been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Service is excellent. The waiters are friendly and bring in food quickly. Food is served hot and the taste is spot on. The restaurant can get crowded during weekends. Pongal, Shavige, Moode Idly, Sambar vada, filter coffee, Gadbad are a few dishes one should not miss on.

We made a stop at Udupi just so we could eat here! And it did not disappoint.
We called for a lot of stuff- the signature biscoot roti, banana buns, moode, Rawa idli, cutlet, bonda. All this to compensate as we could not order dosa as apparently they don’t serve it after 10 or so!
But no regrets. Loved everything we tried here. My most favourite was the biscoot roti . It was sweet, spicy all in one and the texture was amazing. Never had something quite like this ever!
The banana buns were again refreshingly good. Sweet and soft!
The cutlet , bonda, moode and rawa idli was basic but still delicious. Much better quality and taste than what You get at regular Udupi restaurants elsewhere.
Absolutely loved the experience and don’t know when il be back here, but glad I made it once 😍

Located within 1km radius of Sri Krishna math which is one of the famous temple in Udupi.
Based of reviews and rating, we had been to this restaurant during our Udupi trip!

This is pure veg restaurant. We had lunch here with my family. Restaurant was full when we entered. Luckly we got 6 seater table.

Food - We ordered, Veg Schezwan noodles. Very well prepared based on our request. We requested not too spicy and well served. Good in taste and presentation.

Paneer fried rice - too good!!! Used long basmati rice with sufficient amount of small panner pieces. But we need one side dish along with it.

Mughlai Biryani - one of the best item on their menu. Very good in taste as well as in presentation!! #Must try

Garlic Naan - good in taste, as usual. Nothing great to mention about.

Kaju Paneer masala - too good. Perfect dish to have with roti/ naan / parota. Taste was delicious. It's a mix of small pieces of paneer and kaju. Sufficient for 2 people. However, we shared with in 4. #Must try

Paneer butter masala - yet again good in taste and perfect comfort roti items.

Mushroom 🍄 Manchurian - as a starter, it was good. Price wise bit crazy!!

Idli - Same as everywhere you'll find. BUT OVERPRICED. 2 IDLI for 50. It's not fair!!!

Butter milk masala - same as usual and must required in Udupi. Too hot and humid weather due to seashore.

Service - Was good and quick. They maintained minimam waiting time for us, even when whole house was full. They listen and act as per customer request.

Staff behavior - Was good. But one of the main staff was very rude. He thinks he is the owner of the restaurant. I might be wrong, he could be. But if he has to learn how to treat customers. I totally forgot to ask his name, but his mustash and taking sence may tell you, that he is not fit for hotel industry!!!

Ambience - Was good and it's AC restrurent. However, you might not feel so cool but it's good. I would still recommend.

Price - Overpriced. Price could have been bit lower.

Overall - I would rate - 3

Food - 4/5
Ambience - 3/5
Service - 3.5/5
Price - 2.5/5
Staff - 1.5/5 (just b'coz of one of the manager)

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves pure veg food.

PS - Rating reduce due to staff behavior. Pls trained your guys to treat their customers with proper gesture.!!

Saurabh Acharya Portia Acharya

We visited this restaurant thrice while we were in Udupi. Ordered south indian/North indian thali, Dosa, poori kurma, mosambi/watermelon juice, butterscotch ice cream etc. The taste is amazing ! Don't miss this place if you are in Udupi.
I will recommend this to all !!👍👍

After temple Darshan at Sri Krishna math. We were craving badly for food and google helped to locate this food place near by. Restraunt servers completely vegetarian food, service is quiet quick. Prices could have been a bit lower but food taste was quiet. Recommended!

Best Thali ever had around udupi.... Very near to our house... Love it.... Great ambience... Friendly staff.... Definitely recommended & visit again..
Darshan Temker
Affordable and a staple if you love South Indian food and are stuck with the limited options offered in Manipal. Their meals are large and definitely filling. Try their dosas, they're very good. The North Indian and Chinese might be a little lacking, though.
Navin
We had ordered bread masala and cutlet. Both were good but a bit spicy. We also had ordered gudbud icecream which was good. This was not our first visit and since there are not many options in Udupi, this would make a good restrarunt to eat out.
Tiwari Shweta
Looking at the location it is located right across The famous temple in Udupi so once you are done with temple visit you just need to head out to this place and have your dinner or lunch.
The place is busy on a Sunday and the food is up to the Mark. We ordered two mini south Indian meals and also one aloo paratha (recommended by one of my friend) the food is simple and nothing great yet tasty.

A visit here has kind of become a ritual every time I am in the area , so my third visit this year , went there for dinner with friends I am traveling with. The place never stops to amaze me , such pure vibes , nice , hygiene , so soothing , I think I have fallen in love with the place. The service is impersonal but efficient , no unnecessary hovering around the table or niceties , just efficiency , and believe me you will love the space it gives you. Perfect five stars when it comes to hygiene . Ok so the confession , though this place has multi vegetarian cuisines , I have mostly gone in for local and south Indian Tiffin and meals kind and have always relished it.
One must have for me , always , has been the famous manglore Banana Buns , the Banana based Puri's , served hot always a delight. This time around also had the French Onion Soup , which was , well interesting , nothing like what I had imagined, serves me right for trying out a continental did at a south Indian joint in Udupi 😷 . The main for the evening was a Onion Rava Dosa , crisp and flavourful , my friends had a Masala Dosa and a onion rava masala Dosa and I could spy the happy camper smile on their faces while they were eating the Sam .😎. Wanted to have the pineapple Kesari Bath for deserts but unfortunately they only serve that in the morning hours , so left without any desert .

Totally a wonderful meal , loved it and highly recommend a visit to this place to anyone in the neighborhood 😍😍.

ENJOY

Excellent service , awesome food
Specially fry idli and dahi wada
The coconut green chutney was so yummy that i had 2 bowls with fry idli 4 star for service and taste

One of the best places in Udupi. Love the mughlai biryani here. Good ambiance. Staff and service is also good. Only problem is it will be crowded in the afternoon n we may have to wait. Food without onion garlic also available.

A place to remember!
I have never had any issues when it comes to an experience dining at woodlands.

Great food, Great ambiance and friendly service.

This place has been my favorite since ages now, perfect food with everlasting flavors in your palate.

Try out the place, especially during rains. It's amazing.

Thank you team!

A very good and family restaurant. Good food, all items on the menu including. Do try their dosa and butter milk. Worth trying, everything.
Recommendation level: High

Lovely big restaurant in Udipi to enjoy South Indian as well as North Indian! We had only South Indian but saw that lot of people were ordering only North Indian. Maybe they eat the Idli dosa at home daily 😀😀
Good service. Waiters understand Hindi so that was a major plus.
There was a long wait but very systematic with small token numbers being given.

A good place to have a yummy breakfast in Udupi. Service is extremely good.

Had Idli vada, dahi vada, Dosa, puri and Gadbad. All items were tasty and specially Dahi Vada was scrumptious.

Best bets:- Dahi Vada, Gadbad

Ratings:
Taste: 4
Quality: 4.5/5
Pocket friendly: yes

One of the better thalis I’ve had in recent times. The main thing - it came with Puris and not Chapatis! The Dal was amazing. Do visit if you’re in Udupi.
KiniTheFoodie
One of the pillars of Restaurant business in Udupi. You won't find a single day where the restaurant is empty. Always full and buzzing. Very quick service and good quality food. Some of my favourites from this place are Bread Masala, Cheese Pulav (the best ever), Mughlai Biryani and Palak Paneer. The appetizers are decent as well. Was tempted to have Paneer Kurkure, but it was disappointing.
Revanth
This place is pathetic. Had found flies in the soup twice if you complain about it owner doesn't even care for that. People can't really find that out cos this place has dim light.
Jubran Akhtar
I’ve been to this place many a times now.
The place has the best North and South Indian food.
The leaf idli is quite different and worth a try.
They have a North Indian thali which is amazing.
Their sambhar needs a special mention which is absolutely amazing!
Cheap on the pocket and would cost somewhere about 400-500 for 2.
Reena Singh
A great vegetarian food place. Known for its consistent taste from years. Their masala dosa is too good. Lots of options to choose from. North Indian meals are decent as well, not very sure about the meal options though, never tried. Mangalore buns are must try. Their special biryani is good as well. In drinks they serve good kashaya. This place gets jam packed on Sunday evenings as most of the families done out then so either avoid then or go with a mindset to wait a while. Must try.
Surya Agnihotri
The staff of this restaurant are really rude. They dont know how to talk to their customers.
Before serving the food they should learn how to talk to the customers. Staff should learn to talk. No one eats their food for free.
I will never recommend this place to anyone!
Rakesh Nayak
This place is near by Sri Krishna temple and they serve only veg. A good place to have south Indian breakfast and don't forget the North Indian items too. They are pretty good. I always order thier North Indian thali or some hot Chana batoora! Must visit place for vegetarians.
