Review New Alka - Vadodara

Samarth Patel
As I visited at very late hour, we were almost the only and the last customers, so I couldn’t see any problem in terms of service and space. Decent fast and well mannered. We had dosas and they were pretty good. I might come back for dosa. About the ambience, I particularly loved it. It gave the vibes of old 90’s / 2000’s restaurants. It seemed as if the time paused there with all the 90’s music in the background. As all the restaurants across the country have started to appear in a common theme, I liked this one which didn’t go under a renovation of old cozy jammed interior.

Best food and so beautiful ambience.

Will give it four star ⭐ due to its delayed service. Rest everything is fine. Loved taste 😋.

Authentic quality food mainly South Indian items... Very stratigically located in a high shopping footfall areas n hence enjoys better reputation. Very nice ambience, though, it has A/c non-a/c sitting space...

New Alka Restaurant is very old restaurant. The ambience is ok sort. Toilet and wash area are not up to the standard. The food preparation is good and tasty. We had ordered for Mashroom Masala ( very tasty ) sabji , tandoori rotis ( very soft ) and sabudana khidi (ok ok). Good tasty food is trade mark of this restaurant since more then 25 years( since I know them ). I recommend this restaurant who love tasty food at moderate prices.
PAAVAN UPADHYAYA

They filled there tummy with food only

One of the oldest restaurants in Vadodara! Decent sitting area and price of dishes! One can consider this place to have food with Family or friends! I prefer this place for Punjabi cousins & south indian items! Ac room is also available so you can relax and eat well!

Ordered yesterday from here. All items seemed expensive as per the quality. Chole was too pungent and tasted like someone had just added boiled chole to pav bhaji masala. The veg fried rice was too oily and there were stones in the rice. The chilly paneer was ok but again too oily. We have had a good dine in experience in the past and so we ordered but deeply disappointed. Will not recommend. It was a waste of money and we threw away over half of the food.
Parth Joshi
Saltless sabji and biryani . Huge chunks of stone like cheese and no gravy. Do not order from here of you don't wanna spoil your mood
Khushali Joshi
Worst food
Wish i could rate it negatively
Jyothi Gauri
Zero hygiene horrible servers. The person who takes order is too rude. He wants you to repeat everything you say twice. Food too oily and clumsy. Shit on the whole.

We ordered dal kichadi from this place, it tasted really good just like home cooked. The quantity was upto the price. Would definitely try other dishes.

I have ordered from New Alka several times and it is worth it. The food is delicious and the price is also very reasonable. The delivery is time efficient and service is great. A must go place with family.

My mother used to come to this restaurant during the period of 1982-86 and her exact words are the food was and still amazing and we were thoroughly satisfied with the food n please do try cheese kulcha. It is the best restaurant in vadodara
Dipen R Patel
One of the oldest south Indian restaurant in Alkapuri Area. Food and Ambience is same and consistent from the last umpteen number of years.. Fresh idlis n Dosas served since morning 9am onwards. North Indian n Pantry is also the best out here. very economical and best services.
Gaurang Kale
good service

Onion and lime supplied with food was like stale.
Very poor quality salad packed. Not good as per reputation of yr restaurant. I think changed the quality of food also.

It's a famous place and kind of naam bade aur darshan chote ... It's my wife favourite place since times I don't know , we had a visit to vadodara and she insured me for having a recall of her previous time so we went there for some chinese snacks which she used to have there, which I had heard thousands of time from her saying new alka is this and that ...... Bla bla bla ....But when had the things personally I thought my wife has no clue for better taste ...But when I found other customer shouting for the same things about kacha papad and less cooked food . I understood that either the chef has changed or there is miss management in total no value to customer centricity ...Giving 3 just my wife insisted not to give 1 . Not a good experience .

This place has been the only reason we started becoming regularls at Rangoli! ! Always over crowded , cheap eats and no taste. Though you pay for having this bearable food either in the AC or Non AC environment you are treated as dirt not as a customer. Due to the rush the server will tell you on your face that this order will take more than 15 mins so order something else. Just order south Indian food that you'll get fast. The magnamity of the situation is such that all customers seem to be treated in the same manner and none seem to complain. Not did we!! We just reacted by never ever visiting this place and stopping friends and family from going there as well.

Craving for south Indian food... Keep calm visit Alka.😏😂 Often outlets run by the people from the very place they are from brings fruits to the platter. Just south Indian food the north indian items are just ok not too special but to get a typical taste of south Alka is a must

No guys, cant give you more than 2.5
1st - when its late hours for lunch politely decline to serve rather than inviting and starting off.
2nd - inform whats available rather than taking an order and regretting later
3rd - there is something called roti, something called papad. both are not same
4th - Pls ask before snatching away the plate.
so, why did i give 2.5 at all
atleast i ate something that s why.

Location wise this place is very nice. It has got two sitting options AC and without AC. Food is ok ok and services fast. Moneywise this place is good.

We went to this restaurant around 3.30 pm ..and it was a group of 10 people.. the place seems a little less spacious.. but it well maintained..there is a separate ac compartment.. the manager told us that if you want to order Punjabi food order it quickly as they close down the service of Punjabi food from 4-7 pm so we ordered. Paneer toofani.. paneer butter masala.. a jain veg sabji ...and butter roti.. all the sabjis were good.. and the rotis were soft and nicely cooked.. we also ordered chhas.. and Hyderabadi biryani which was okay.. the quantity of the food was good.. and the quality was average..

You will surely enjoy outing with family and would be happy with the food and service.
The place is not so big, so be quite early to occupy seats.
Kashyap Damor

New Alka Restaurant Located at R C Dutt Road, Alkapuri in Vadodara. There are multiple outlets of this restaurant; this place has varieties of North India and South Indian vegetarian foods.

Ambience: Basic

Seating Arrangement: Moderate Sitting

What we tried: We decide to ordered Paneer Kurma , Malai kofta and Dal Fry with naans & jeera rice. But the food quality & taste was better than our expectations. Quantity served was quite good. Food Service was also fast. Overall the quality of food is good and a nice place for families. Cheers!!

It was good. Service was a bit slow but it might be because of Sunday.. Taste of food is nice and quality is very good. Worth going for a Punjabi meal. One suggestion is they should improve the lighting in their restaurant, felt like I was having a candle light dinner without any candle... :p
Aditya Shah
Nice restaurant at one of the busiest location in Vadodara. Good quality of food at reasonable price. Ambience is also decent. However, there is a scope of improvement in the seating facility on the outside of the AC room. Hygiene can also be improved. Overall good experience and definitely recommend it.

Sad and disappointed with the quality.
Had expected alot as i used to be a loyal customer at this restaurant. But since a few months the quality has degraded with food tasting stale.

My order.
Onion uttapam - 3/5
Could have been better if the quantity of onions would have been less. The uttapam was over powered by onions which killed the taste.

Cheese Masala Uttapam - 1/5
No signs of cheese, just a few cheese sprinkled over the uttapam and the masala didnt have proper concentration of potatoes and it was more of 'uttad' dal in it.

New Alka is losing its charm.

This place has been a fixture in the city since a long time and there are several outlets of this restaurant.
Was in this area at night some time ago and seeing no other option nearby we ventured in.
Ambiance is okay and nothing great. Decided to eat the staple and so ordered navratan korma and paneer masala with butter naans followed by dal and rice.
Service was very quick. We didn't expect too much but the food was surprisingly better than we thought would be. Naans were decent and navratan korma was good. The other dishes were fine. Quantity served was really good.
The place was mostly full on a weekday so I guess there would a long waiting time on weekends.
Very friendly on the pocket.
Overall decent food which isn't too heavy on the wallet.
Dhruv Parikh
Once upon a time, it was a good decent family restaurant. Today, i felt highways truck dhaba are far more better than this.
Worst food ever.. Better to have it on street side than here.
Parathas need strong muscle to tear them apart.
Gravy had peanuts taste in it.. Yes Punjabi paneer sabji..
Manchurian costs 145 which actually as per its taste worth not more then 30-40.
Street food is far far far better.

Recommendation: Try another restaurant.. dont waste your money here. Not worth at all.

Strange thing about this place is a striking odour as soon as you walk in. Its not stink but neither aromatic. Yet in a different way,it reminded me of Banaras. Crowded and chaotic but good food at jet speed. Between one meeting to another, I chose to walk in here. Scorching heat and hall was non AC. I gasped but the steward quickly took me to AC hall. Dimly lit and shady decor. But trust me, absolutely freshly roasted Mysore Dosai served with steamy sambhar in flat 8 minutes. Who's complaining? Lassi is good too and I simply adored constant supply of sambhar and chutney. Sure to repeat it.

All of us had a busy day sightseeing ...so had a take away lunch from here . quick service and decent staff , and more importantly they offer u purified water !!
Of all the stuff that v had malai koftas were gud, veg kolhapuri decent . the butter Roti's and kulchas were melt in mouth evidently coz my 3 yr old loved it . alka sp biryani was a dissapointment . pricing is easy on pocket and take away are gud for large families .. Noticed many people eating the thali ...as it was pocket friendly..

During my 3 years of living at Vadodara from 2007 to 2009, this was the my 2nd most visited restaurant as they had perfect south Indian thali. But they were expensive that time itself.

If you want to eat really good South Indian food at reasonable prices, this is the place! North Indian cuisine is good too. Pretty consistent in the quality and taste, you can have a good meal at anytime if the say
Anish Vasant
The best restaurant in Baroda in terms of consistency in taste. The south Indian food is highly recommend at new alka....

Steam idli that we had was very soft served with excellent chatni n Sambhar.... I also ordered PANEER BALTI which tasted yummy n was filling.
The dosa was crispy n tasty
The moderate prices ensure that it doesn't dig a hole in your pocket....

Total paisa vasool.....
Sauhil Bhattia
Visited the one near Manish circle.. place is too crowded, service is slow, food is cold and doesn't taste all that good. Ordered for a saada dosa, idli sambar.. both were cold as a stone.. even the sambar was cold. No taste at all
Rathod Nidul
One of the oldest restaurant providing all varieties of food. The food is not awesome. But still helps to fill up your stomach any time of the day.

But Minus points are because they are not renovating or the improvisation in menu.
MANISH MEHTA
The food quality was worst ever excuse by waiter if u order Jain u get this way. The paneer tikka masala has paneer 6 cubes that is also fried and kept since morning.nver to visit
Shine George
Quality of food is not good. Even there are rats. I was stunned when I saw 2 rats rats moving around in the restaurant. The price is high. If the quality of food was good, price wouldn't have been a problem
Jalpesh Desai
A mid-range hotel for family. Food is decent, service is quick and price is also in budget. Generally people visit this place to have South Indian and North Indian dishes. Seating arrangement and ambiance is ok.

I give 1 rating only because its compulsory other wishes i give it (-5)
Today we order food from hear and they packed one day old biryani.
When we returned they say this smell because of mix veg. (They think we never eat biryani before) and replace another (same biryani but little hotter)
Vishwesh Ravishankar
Good furniture...but wont get vadas mostly after 11 in the morning ....good for paper dosa or masala dosa...south indian lovers can go and cherish...!!

The New Alka Restaurant is situated right off the main road and is very easy to find. This one's your usual family restaurant. The variety on the menu is large and food quality is fine too. Serving took unusually long though. Give it a try if you've exhausted better options and don't want to try anything new.
Kunjan Detroja
okiesh typoe of restuarant, so during weekends if you want to go for quick dinner in budget this is you can choose. They don't make any exceptional dishes so I hardly remember any of its name, but one of their dish strikes to me is their american chospy. This sweet dish is one of few dishes I like among the chinese dishes.

for quick south indian dish I can recommand this place to you...
Shah Dharmen
A good experience at all. Economic restaurant. Family restaurant. Pavbhaji, Punjabi and south Indian food is good. AC hall is also good. Loved the place...

Quite an old family restaurant with branches at many locations in city. I went there yesterday for dinner. I had south indian food. The ambience and food were average. It is very economical We were four people and our bill was approx Rs.600. One can try this restaurant if you are not able to decide where to go and not in mood of spending much money.
Sarabpalbami
A wonderful experience overall. Pavv was the managers name. He was very sweet. He knew his menu very well. One of the best dosas i have ever had. Also the chinese was very good. Pavv has studied in ecole hoteliere lavasa the best college in india. I would love to go again. Excellent experience!!
Parth
Fantastic food! Everything we ordered was brilliant. The service was excellent and fast! The servers were also very helpful and i would definitely go there again

Pocket friendly place with really good food but no ambiance and services. All punjabi sabjis are good in taste and quality.
Avoid milk shake, snakes and tea, they are not so exciting.

I always prefer take away and enjoy their food at home

Now this is quiet an old family restaurant in vadodara. One evening when we were in no mood to eat home made food we decided to visit new alka restaurant. We were around 12 people and i must say the staff was courteous enough to make arrangements soon unlike the other restaurants around. The menu is quiet normal with north indian, chinese, south indian and pav bhaji. It did not had any attention grabbing dish. However we ordered a few north indian dishes. They tasted quiet average. Though i asked them to make the food spicy, it wasn't that spicy. The ambiance is average. Overall there is no x factor in the restaurant and so average scores for this average restaurant.
Ritesh Bhangale
Decent food.
Now coming to the service. We (me with my parents) had to wait for 98 minutes for our food. Yes, I counted; you have to when you're made to wait for that long. Although a weekend, that figure is still not justified. And the misery doesn't end here! They will bring your order in bits and pieces on the condition that you keep reminding them what is still remaining. You see, here, you are responsible for getting your whole order served. A great place for control freaks!
