Review Goa Portuguesa - Vadodara

Nishant Jha
We enjoyed a fabulous authentic Goan dinner here last month along with 2 friends who were trying Goan cuisine for the first time. We ordered the chicken soup, chicken cafreal, fish xacuti and caramel custard for our meal; everything was fabulous. adequately spiced and mighty delicious too. The ambiance is very colourful and has lots of good vibes. The service is attentive and prompt too. Overall a real good experience and we would definitely visit soon.

We had Portuguese prawns soup which was quite good and recommended for people who like shorbas. For main course, we had chicken vindaloo, Kerala laccha porotta and Amboli. All the items had a unique taste which is generally not available in regular restaurants. Highly recommended for people who want to have something different. The ambience was quite good as well and the service was excellent! 2nd Visit on 04.07.19 This time around we tried Crab Kalimiri soup - which was a dark coloured spicy soup with lots of crab meat, we loved it. We ordered fish tikka for starters. We couldn't identify the fish used, however it was juicy and without any bones. For the mains we tried garlic Pao, Amboli alongwith Portuegese chicken curry. The chicken curry was a whitish mild flavoured dish which easily compliments Amboli but not quite the garlic Pao. In all fairness we were warned by the service team. Food here is a like a breath of fresh air when compared with the normal tandoori/ tikka masala /standard flavoured dishes we get in other restaurants. I think that and the quality justifies the prices.

A uniquely designed place for for the sea food lovers in town. Serving delicacies from the Goan and kolhapuri cuisine makes it a stand alone in the segment. Wide array of sumptuous fish, prawns and chicken option. Must visit for the non vegetarians.

A relatively new restaurant in Vadodara city on the Vasna road. WE were just passing by on that day and just it came in view. As we are fond of Goanese we thought of visiting it. As we entered we found a brightly themed decor. Spacious layout with lots of items to give a goan feel. There are Mario Miranda sketches and table mats have Mario sketch. Good variety of menu though bit limited (found no pork vindalu). Food and service is very good. Liked their Khamang Kakdi salad. Overall a good experience. They have nice parking options in front of the restaurant.

We went for A late lunch it was a quite affair, the staff was attentive, the food was great. Staff was helpful to tone down the spice level, so as to make the meal enjoyable. The ambience was nice, service was quick, the portions were decent sized

Nice place but not for all.food was nice quantity was also good. But they should be little more care full while billing bz,when we visited we were in bit hurry so we did not check our bill after two days while i check my bill they charge us extra which we did not ordered. I thought of calling them but it was already 2 days over and that place is too far from my home so i let it go. Its my concern that at least the person who took order should communicate properly. so that such problem should not happen again.

We went on Christmas and got luck to be greeted by a santa. Straight away great interior, super good staff and lots of good goan food choices. I ordered prawns curry with steamed rice. Prawn curry was served with 8-10 prawns and lots of little sweet little spicy curry. Prawns were of medium size and were soft and crispy. It had a really lavish and authentic taste to it and was filling for two people and a fair price.
Priyanka Ladani
Ordered in the prawns rassa (mangelorian style), roti and kerala lachha paratha. Didnt like any of it. The prawns were soft that was the only good thing. The taste of the curry was very flat. It felt as if it lacked in flavours. The only flavour which i had was of coconut which was quite overpowering. The roti had become all rubbery. The kerala paratha had this weird taste and smell to it. I felt as if they were frozen and reheated. I had to add salt to it in order to eat it. Green chillies and onions saved the day. I literally had to gulp it down. Wouldn’t recommend it. Expected a lot better given the prices.
Shivduttsinh Parmar
The quality of food and preparation which I liked about goa portuguesa has gone from worse to worst. The chicken Biryani I ordered today was actually bad.
Debojit Sengupta
One thing I want to mention straight up is the staff is super devoted. There wasn’t diet coke on the menu the day I visited, the staff still got it for me. I am a bengali, so fish is quite necessary for my survival. This place has the finest seafood collection in the city. Must try is the Goan Fish Curry. One more advice, keep it simple, prefer plain rice with the main dish, you won’t regret it.
Yashdeep
This place servers the same as the zomato tag line "Good food , great life " and if it's not of zomato this restaurant know the meaning of this line very well .....A grt place to spen some quality time with family and great spot to enjoy the non veg foods
A serene ambience to enhance your dining experience and a bar to get you the perfect vibes, they are here to cater to your dining needs. A wide variety of dishes including Sea food, non vegetarian and vegetarian food.
.
Some of the dishes I tried were
Veg corn crackers sandwich-NEW
Tandoori pompfret-749₹
Tandoori surmai-595
Crab kalmiri soup-195₹
Bell pepper balls mushroom -NEW
Virgin Mojito-145₹
Vindalho chicken-375₹
Portuguese chicken-375₹
Amboli- 45₹
Mutton Shami sizzler- NEW
Butter chicken sizzler-NEW
Kerala laccha paratha-55₹
Chicken rassa-NEW
Tender coconut cashewnut sukke (Signature dish)-325₹
.
A few recommended dishes are corn cracker sandwich (a nice snack option with good flavour of corn), tandoori surmai (good decent flavours), bell pepper ball mushrooms (one of the best items on the menu), chicken rassa (a good hint of subtle flavours) and sukke (its their signature dish for a reason! Nice combination of tender coconut with cashewnut, some spices and veggies).
.
Ambience: 9/10
Presentation: 8/10
Service: 5/10
Food: 8.5/10

Goan treat 🤩🤩

When scrumptious taste and exotic flavors served to your plate you don't need a silver spoon to eat!!
.
Malavan or Konkani food can light up the taste buds of any food lover. It's very famous across Maharashtra and Goa.

Hey, but you don't need to go that far because goaportugues is in the town.

The unmatched classy goan ambiance and authentic Konkani or malvani dishes sets them apart compare to any other restaurant. This type of food is known for its generous use of coconut and other Konkani spices such as kokum and Kairi(raw mango).

What we have tried :

• Tandoori pomfret-749₹
• Tandoori surmai-595
• Crab kalmiri soup-195₹
• Bell pepper balls mushroom -NEW
• ZhanZanit soup-chicken-NEW
• Stuffed crab-695₹
• Stuffed mushroom-315₹
• Prawns oissois-495₹
• Virgin Mojito-145₹
• Paneer pepper-NEW
• Vindaloo chicken-375₹ (was pretty sour)
• Portuguese chicken-375₹
• Paneer mutter masala- NEW
• Amboli- 45₹
• Cade Soup- 155₹
• Mutton Shami sizzler-NEW
• Black passion mocktail-145₹
• Butter chicken sizzler-NEW
• Kerala laccha paratha-55₹
• Chicken rassa-NEW
• Lobster goa Portuguesa-1495₹
• Tender coconut cashew nut sukke (Signature dish)-325₹
• Xec-xec prawns (Signature dish)-495₹
• Prawns biryani-495₹

.
piratesofhunger recommendations :
-Xec-xec prawns and prawns biryani - 495/-
-Veg Tender coconut cashew nut sukke - 325/-
-kombdi vade - 55/-
-Prawns rissois - 495/-

if u r eating Konkani or malvani food forget that spicy red or brown gravy. Its a kind of food with the flavors of coconut and very diluted texture gravy , but the taste and flavors will blow your mind if you know the malvani food well enough!! The above description perfectly suits for their signature dish Xec-xec prawns and prawns biryani combination. From the first spoon till you lick the last drop plate, you will completely lose your self in its taste

The word Kombdi vade(they have not mentioned it in the menu but you can order both separately) is not unknown for any Maharashtrian, it's a combination of traditional Malvani chicken curry and vade which is a fluffy, fried bread of wheat and nachni flour.

Tender Coconut and Cashewnut Sukke
Coastal cuisine of India loves the coconut. Be it Goan or Malwani the taste of coconut reigns supreme!!!

Tender Coconut and Cashewnut Sukke is one of my favorite from here.. There are two core ingredients cashews and tender coconut.

The ingredients are simple yet their chemistry in the dish is remarkable. We were blown by how a veg delicacy has made an impact on us among the all other non-veg dishes at goaportuguesa..We inquire about the dish with owners and find out that it's an award winning recipe and one of the best Goan dishes.

For crab and lobster lovers, they serve both dishes amazing and the taste and presentation is amazing.plus you don't need to make efforts to eat them as they serve both dishes in ready to eat form.

The only let down for this restaurant is that their service is pretty slow and the staff is somewhat undertrained. Apart from that..price range is on the higher side but any fine dining restaurant serving seafood is never going to be mid-range.

All in all a perfect heaven for Konkani or malvani food lovers and special place for special occasions!!!
Monali
A very good place for sea food, goan style. Was really looking forward to visit this place.

The ambience is really good & they have good dining space.

Tried items:

Tender coconut mocktail, stuffed crab, tandoor paplet, coconut sukke, mutton shami sizzler & Amboli

Food was really tasty and satisfying.

Staff could be trained a bit for a 5star rating.

Highly recommended for sea food lovers

Yes, we have a restaurant in Vadodara which serves authentic Goan cuisine.

This place is a must go for seafood lovers but vegetarians don't need to be sad either as they serve some amazing vegetarian dishes.

We tried a few dishes here :

1) Stuffed Mushrooms : Mushrooms stuffed with cheese, coated with batter and deep fried. This was a good start to the meal.

2) Paneer Pepper : The name explains the preparation but I would like to highlight that the paneer was soft and the dish was delicious.

3) Paneer Mutter with Kerala Laccha Paratha : cooked in rich and creamy yellow gravy, there was generous amount of paneer and mutter in it.
The kerala laccha Paratha was soft and cooked well.

4) Tender Coconut Cashew Nut Sukke : Full marks to the presentation. The signature dish of this place was made of tender coconut chips and cashew nut. Rich with the main ingredients and flavourful, served in coconut!

5) Tender Coconut Mocktail : This mocktail complimented the theme and the cuisine of the restaurant. It was made of tender coconut syrup and icecream. Loved it.

Staff was polite and the interiors were soothing and decent.

So I went to this place finally as it was on my list since long! The ambience is decent and the staff is polite. I tried few of their dishes and they were all really good.

I tried their stuffed mushrooms, which were stuffed with cheese and capsicum, dipped in a batter and deep fried. It was a great start to the meal.
In main course I tried coconut and cashewnut sukke, which was one of it's kind. It was made of tender coconut chips and cashews in Goan spices, served in a coconut! I highly recommend this dish.
Instead of rotis, I opted for amboli and I am glad I made that choice. The amboli was soft and totally went with the main course.
Tender coconut punch was the moctail I tried for the first time in my life and I don't regret trying it. It was a great experience overall.
Seafood lovers are going to love it but they have good menu for the vegetarians as well.

The sumptuous food along with the super ambience sparkled our visit to Goa Potuguese. The sevice was excellent, the food was delicious and the surrounding was pleasant. What more do you need to make a hot, sweaty afternoon - COOL? A must visit, if you haven't yet.

First order from this restaurant. Ordered Kadai chicken and chicken tikka masala and both were fabulous. The quantity is way too much than expected when compared to others.
Kripa Chowdhury
Went to this place on a weekend for lunch. Despite the claim of being a Goan restaurant, they didnt have bombil and surmai available. We had mutton briyani, prawn curry and rawas fry. Every food item was very ordinary and oily. The waiters were very uninterested in their job. Not recemmonded at all.
Dhruv Patel
WORST chicken biryani of my life this was not even biryani it was just fried rice n chicken for 375rs wost super worst never ever order anything from this restaurant

On 26th came for dinner with family and friends and was very disappointed with service.
Our orders were not noted properly and after waiting for 20 minutes we come to know that waiter has not placed our order in kitchen. These happened thrice.,once in starters, then in main course finally in dessert.
In dessert it was noted in bill but not served!!!.
Waiters are untrained and don't know how to serve food. They have no Knowledge of fish served hence should not say whatever name comes to their mind.
Moctail were not to perfection and took 1 hour to serve 6 mocktails.
Yours is a unique concept and cuisine restaurant in Baroda and if not improved will loose customers.
By the way this was my 2nd visit and this time I left very upset and disappointed.
Udayan Mitra
It’s fortunate to have Goan cuisine restaurant in a place like Vadodara. But our experience was below expectations. We ordered Solkadhi which was ok, then they said that Bombil and Surmai were not available. Now if you cannot serve these fishes there is no point in running a Goan restaurant. Finally we had Rawas fry, prawn curry was not fresh and the biriyani was Ok. Overall I would say that it can improve a lot. Maybe in Vadodara the demand is such dat you cannot serve proper non veg food.
Amr Arv
This was the third time I gave an order to this place from zomato. The first two times were good. Now that we are sending repeat orders, they have taken us for granted. Ordered pomfret fry, and they sent some poor quality pomfret, poorly marinated, carelessly cooked, it tasted raw and not even fresh. It cost 800 bucks, it was a sheer waste and this RISK is not at all worth taking this summer. When you give repeat orders to this place, you will be taken for granted, so it's only good for a time buy.
PALAK RAJ
If you are non vegetarian, this place is so good for you guys. You must go to this place for good non veg dishes. this is the one of the class restaurant. The theme of the cafe is fantastic . And I tried a vegetarian food also that was good too. Every penny is worth here.
Bhadresh Chaudhari
The food is of premium quality. The service is quite late that is a major drawback and the bartender is doesn't know how to make drinks so prefer not to order Mocktails. The 4Stars are exclusively for the food quality and ambience.
Charmi Patel
You will defently feel that u r in Goa. From food to music created in such a way that you will get vibes of Portuguese goa. Though m not a non vegetarian I have ordered chicken n out my amazed I really liked it. Staff service adviced me what should be ordered as I haven't tried chicken before. Other konkani dishes were also good. Live music was plus to all these. Parking facilities was also good. Enjoyed my evening.
Shashi2507
Taste and quality and quantity was good . Authentic goan and Maharashtrian style. Packing of food was good , felt like we are having home food. Was doubtful but was happy. We tried chicken Kolapuri Tamda Rassa and Chicken Biryani, both were good

Ordered from these guys on monday night. Chicken Biryani!! The biryani was vry good, perfectly balanced taste but could use a little more chicken... overall a good experience... recommended for home delivery!!
Mahesh Nandani
One of the finest restaurant in Baroda which serves SEA FOOD. Just classic taste, very hygienic true value for money. Their Goanese Eggs Curry with Amboli is worth the try.
Sanjana Junnarkar
Most authentic place for goanese food. They have also included some Maharashtrian dishes. We had kalimiri crab soup, hot and sour chicken, mutton shammi kabab, chicken vindaloo, tender coconut curry (their specialty) , dodol and caramel custard. The soups were delicious and had the right amount of spice and the crab flavor was spot on. Chicken vindaloo was one of the best I have had. The coconut curry was something I had never had before and it was just gr8! Also, they don't have the usual chutnis on the table. There is the Maharashtrian green chilly thecha which was very good. All in all, this place is outstanding.
Sakshi Mittal
The place had goooood food - sea food and meat. Nice ambience and good music. Courteous staff.
Yet there is scope for improvement in their service.
Yash
The service was very slow. The food was pretty good, close enough to authentic Goan taste. The ambience is good as well. Would recommend for friends and family.

Excellent food. Class restaurant. Sea food fantastic . I strongly recommend Goa Portuguese restaurant. Veg and non veg foods are very good. All the best

It was fathers 78th Birthday and we decided to have dinner outside. While deciding which restaurant we should go, we thought of Goa Portuguesa. Believe me the Resturant surprised us. The ambiance was perfect and food was excellent. Authentic Goanese food. We orders Crab Kalimiri Soup, bombil and prawn fry, Mutton Shagoti (Xacutti), Chicken Tamra Rasa with Chapatis and Amboli. And at the end we had Sholcurry. This restaurant is must for people who love goanese food.

Goa has been the preferred family destination in the last 7-8 years and we have had enough Cafreals and Xacutis to differentiate the good ones from the bad ones.. we went to Goa Portuguesa with a lot of expectations and the experience was quite underwhelming.. the Chicken Xacuti was quite watery and milder than expected... Also the meat to gravy ratio was a bit skewed.. we would have loved a thicker gravy with more meat.. oh and I know this is Gujarat but we know what is white wine and what is Appy!.. considering the prices, I dont see this place worth the hype... But yes, while the food was underwhelming, the service was great.. the staff went out of their way to take care of the toddlers so that the parents could finally have a meal together.. so cheers to the staff.. maybe this was just a bad day in the kitchen..
Chirayutheamivideoindia
Food not so great as per name & concept even I order bornless chicken biryani and they served born Biriyani , price is also higher as per food quality.....must go BBQ nation only
Kishan Mathur
Nice food... Service is one of the best in Vadodara.
Road touch location, parking facility available. We can feel like Goa without visiting there.
Sujay Pawar
If you miss authentic goan and Portuguese good ..you are at right place. Authentic goan style n Portuguese style sea food and non veg preparations. Absolutely Lip smacking. You will crave for more. Even goan style veg options are awesome sukke Verde is one of them. You can end with typical goan dessert liked bebenca or brownie with ice cream. The interior and decor are awesome. Service is one of the best in our city. Go for it and enjoy Goa in apnu Vadodara.
Avneet Thairiani
Though I was excited with the prospect of enjoying Goan cuisine, Goa Portuguesa failed somewhat to deliver on that front. No Goan experience is complete without a live band and pork is one of the staples of a Goan diet. Didn't find both here. The classic Goan dishes were served in chicken or mutton options. So bleh! I found the food a bit too spicy for my taste, mutton cuts were more fat than meat, veg options were okay I guess, nothing out of the world. The crabs were good; though they tasted more like egg bhurji than crabs.

Will I return to this place? Maybe.. I found it quite pricey for the portion size. Flying down to Goa and having a meal there may turn out cheaper.
Neville Daruwala
Great place for sea food lovers in Vadodara. Definitely in the top three on my list of good non-vegetarian joints in my city.

Though the menu is not as elaborate as in the Mumbai joint, but the spread is quite unique & interesting. Happened to meet the young chef who is shouldering the responsibility of running the kitchen & complemented him on the wonderful fare his kitchen dishes out

Service is quite impeccable & the waiters are always on their toes to serve your smallest of needs. Also the ambiance is quite quirky yet not too loud and with just the right amount of lighting to uplift your mood.

A good restaurant not only tickles your taste buds but also fills your tummy. At Goa Portuguesa they serve you quite sufficiently, thus making it a truly value for money restaurant.

Do try it, albeit with your family & friends and have a delightful time...

Cheers!!!

Good taste but very expensive.
They serve Goan food which is new for Vadodara.
Ambiance is very nice
Service is fast and staff friendly.
I would go there again

finally, some authentic goan cuisine
Anmol Javadekar
Giving it a 4 star was difficult as i really liked the food, the original south maharashtrian / goan flavor to everything and then the typical goan shack like feel to the place. Everything was perfect but the place seems to be overestimating the spending capacity of barodians! 😅 Needs to work on that part and i am sure, the classes ( not the masses) will love this place!
Kanishka Panchal
Great food !
Loved the whole Goan feel in the restaurant ! The staff is very welcoming and helpful ! We kept on taking suggestions on what to order and asked them to explain us what the dish is made of...and they never disappointed us ! The complete staff is very well aware of what the restaurant is serving !
Service: 5/5

We tried portuguese prawn soup, garlic bun, chicken vindaloo, amboli, vade and the dessert bebinca ! Everything was super delicious and I’m looking forward to try different things on the menu ! It was all together a different experience ! Something new to try !
Prerak Chintalwar
We ordered meat tambda rassa and Vada. The order was unexpectedly delicious. Pure maharashtrian taste. And Zomato delivered 16 minutes earlier, and that's commendable.
The Zomato delivery boy was very polite.
Would order again from this restaurant and would love to try the whole non-veg menu. 🤘😎
Aalok
The dish they claim to be spicy was extremely sweet. When we told them the same we were told it was done as Gujjus want a sweet taste. If I wanted the Gujju taste why would I go to a restaurant that claims it serves authentic Goan food.
There is scope of improvement in the service too.
Disappointed!!
Abhay Kumar
food was excellent....

Classy food and great ambience. Had Indian veg varieties but something very different and great taste. Keep it up and maintain the good taste.

They have done total justice to the name. The ambience, the music, the service and of course the food - spot on!
Very polite and courteous staff combined with great authentic food make this place a must visit for any seafood lover. I'm saying seafood, coz I only had prawns and crab. A Portuguese crab soup and a Goan prawns curry and a Bibinca dessert.
I shall definitely come here again to try more seafood and this is for sure a must visit! Won't disappoint. It's a tad expensive, but the quantity and quality make up for it.

Great ambience, good music, decent starters, satisfactory soups, not up to the mark main course. Being a goan and a foodie I am disappointed with the taste and authenticity.

This new place in town is just the right place for sea food lovers. The servings are good enough for the price and good for the clicks too! The spices are distinguished in each bite. The service is quick and smooth. The menu for the vegetarians is a slightly monotonous, nothing new. The staff is cordial, sitting arrangements are neat and spacious. The ambiance is slightly too modern to feel the actual Goan aura. nevertheless the music in the background sufficed for it. Over all the food tastes excellent.

Extra ordinary food, quick service and excellent presentation made my day like anything. Mind boggling music with soulful and goan like ambience.

I visited this restaurant and few days ago and it hurts me to say that I was extremely let down and disappointed with the food I was severed. I am a huge fan of Goa Portuguesa, Mumbai and I have grown up eating goan food all my life. I know exactly what I'm talking about whilst critiquing goan cuisine and sadly this place just did not deliver the quality it should've.
I walked in and admired the interior, funky and fun. 5 stars for ambiance. Good music playing, all excited and starved for good food.
I started off my meal with a glass of solkadhi which was, thankfully, to my liking but it goes downhill from there. The Surmai fish was stale and lacked a good amount of green chutney which was vaguely coated as the marination. The prawn curry was good but not great because the coconut flavour was overpowering all the other elements. I was also quite sad about Bombay Duck not being available although it was on the menu. Then came dessert. The Bebinca was microwaved to such a high temperature it burnt my tongue, bebinca is supposed to be severed at a room temperature or warm but not piping hot. To sum it up, an unpleasant experiance.
Nowadays it's so evident that big brands commercially open chains all over and comprise on the quality of food. This is exactly what i felt here. Minor details matter a lot. Sorry but a real downer.

It finally opened its doors to patrons in Vadodara. Goa Portuguesa, an iconic and legendary Goan cuisine specialist from Mumbai launched it's branch in Vadodara. Its big wooden doors with mosaic glass effects welcome you to a room filled with live music and the hustle and chatter of hungry and happy patrons.

Understanding my love for Goan food, and being a Mumbaikar who has grown up eating at this place over the years, I couldn't wait to check their menu and start diving into their courses. The menu, is simple, yet well planned. Right from soups, to the traditional Goan specialties, all the way upto the North Indian selections (Veg and Non Veg).

We started off by placing the order for the evening. 1 Mutton Sukke, 1 Sol kadhi, 2 portions of Vade, 1 Goan Prawns Curry Rice, 1 Mutton Vindaloo and some Kerala parathas. I guess this was decent as a start.

First up was the Mutton Sukke. A dry dish consisting of boneless mutton cubes in a traditional cocnut based Goan masala accompanied with a portion of Vade (4 pcs) and pav. Don't you dare eat this with rotis'. You may end up insulting the Sukke's feelings. The Sukke, was subtle to the taste in the beginning, until it decided to show its real colors by packing a powerful punch during its slow decent into our stomachs. It was HOT! Amazing to taste, but HOT. Thank you chef :-)

Well, after winning Round 1, it was time to meet the next challenge, the Goan Prawn Curry Rice. Another winner, a well balanced dish that has the right spices in the right proportions. Not too spicy, yet not too bland. And in a good portion size too. The prawns were cooked well. No complaints there too chef :-) The vade were perfectly made.

Two dishes down and still craving for more, the wife and I decided to go for my favorite, the Mutton Vindaloo. A vindaloo as you know is a dish packed with flavors and spice eaten either with pav or if you prefer then with steam rice. The portion was good enough for two people, with a decent serving of boneless mutton pieces (unlike other places that give you a measly portion with just two pieces). The only thing that stopped this dish from completing a great evening was the flavor. It had a strong hint of bitterness to it. Ideally, vindaloo as a dish does not have so much bitterness to it. I guess if this is kept in check, then this is a dish to order every time.

Overall, a dinner well staged by a gracious staff. Looking forward to visiting soon. Thank you for your hospitality Goa Portuguesa :-) Sanaya Bokdawala Janet Contractor
