Review Varanasi Cafe & Restaurant - Varanasi

The real Varanasi Cafe is situated at Bangali Tola (opposite Bona Cafe). We ordered the set breakfast and pancakes with banana. The set breakfast was pretty good, really nice jam and abundant hash browns with roasted tomatoes and peppers. The food is really amazing, everything is fresh, you have to try Thali!

Good Italian options like lasagne, pasta. The taste was really nice. The restaurant can be reached by a 2 wheeler or by foot. I gave 4 star just because they donot accept payment by card. Overall experience was nice.

This place was incredible. I came here 5 times during my week long stay in Varanasi and each time the food was fantastic. Plenty of veg/vegan options and a wide variety of different cuisines. Mahendar is the owner and cooks all the food himself, which is made to order and completely fresh. Each time I felt very welcomed and I wound up spending a lot of time speaking with him & Dinesh (his friend and co-worker). The hospitality was unmatched which is partially why I kept coming back. They even helped me arrange transportation to the airport. Great restaurant and great staff! I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Delicious, made-to-order food cooked in view by two gentlemen. We ordered multiple curries and were delighted with all of them. Prices are average for sit down restaurants. Most seating is on floor cushions but one table has chairs. Follow the writing on the alley walls and look for overhead signs to get here, you'll be glad you did!

I have been in Varanas for the last 3days. I have been eating in all the cafes around town. Varanasi cafe & restaurant is the best cafe around. They serve very good food freshly prepared. The host is very friendly. The ambiance is superb also the decor of the cafe is beautiful. Definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the city.

Tremendous food and drink in a relaxing location. We came here after a horrid experience at the Brown Bread Bakery and were greeted by godfather of Varanasi, Karan, who instantly made us feel at home and assured us the coffee was real (he's a big coffee fan himself). He was right and the coffee was very good (all tried - filter, americano and cold coconut). We were served by the friendly, courteous and professional Binay who ensured we were fed and watered during the time we were engrossed in conversation with Karan. After a month of Indian food we were desperate for some western comfort food - a salami pizza and a warm Italian salad. Both were very tasty (please note the salami is not pepperoni but a younger, less spicy version which still very good). This first pleasant dining experience led to us returning to the cafe 6+ times in only a few days! Other meals that we tried and recommend include the Lovers' Breakfast (please note the hash brown's aren't the fried North American rostis but a far superior potato medley served in a ratatouille style sauce with stewed peppers and tomatoes); baked chicken with perfect roast potatoes and vegetables; and homemade chips. This is a cafe that is worthy of 5 stars based on the food alone. The fact that Binay and Karan are excellent hosts is a big bonus. Karan became our unofficial guide to Varanasi, offering us honest, candid advice about all things Varanasi. During our time in Varanasi Karan went the extra mile to ensure we had a great visit by: taking us to the evening ceremony; driving me to get my phone repaired; treating us to Varanasi's famous chai whilst away from his cafe; pointing out the best shop to buy clothing nearby; arranging a yoga session - I'll stop there but I could mention more! All of this was done not for money as all of his help was free (he actually ended up out of pocket) but to ensure we had a wonderful stay in Varanasi. Being so helpful and friendly as a business model is very successful as we repeatedly wanted to return to the cafe - Karan is a very smart and genuine operator! This makes Varanasi Cafe & Bakery Restaurant a must visit for all in Varanasi! Ps. Please do not get a massage from the café's neighbour two doors down as the man is a sexual pervert who touched one of our party in an extremely inappropriate way during a massage and watched them change leaving them feeling very traumatised.

The only place you need to visit in Varanasi! Fantastic, reasonably priced and tasty food from a range of cuisines. The lemon baked chicken, riso salad and the breakfasts are tremendous. The coffee is fantastic and some of the only real coffee available in Varanasi. The staff are all friendly and helpful, in particular the owner Karan who became our Varanasi guardian angle. Karan is so warm and generous and was solely responsible for making our time in Varanasi enjoyable. He helped us with all our questions and recommend many things to us. This is fantastic cafe is not to be missed!

By far the most enjoyable meal we have eaten during our two weeks here in Varanasi. The owner was our server and he was extremely pleasant. He explained to us that almost everything (the jam, peanut butter, bread, etc.) were all made fresh on location. And you could taste it! Our breakfast was delicious and clearly prepared fresh to order. Also, in a town where it's practically impossible to find real coffee....the Varanasi Cafe is actually serving delicious, fresh ground bean coffee and they make a fantastic cappuccino! Without a doubt, we will be dining here for the majority of our remaining meals in Varanasi.

I think one of the reasons I like this place so much is the fact that you can tell this restaurant and bakery is a labor of love for the family that runs it. The food was excellent during our visit and we sampled all the cookies. The fresh dense brown bread with the homemade jams and peanut butter was a nice treat as well. All of my friends sang their praises about this place as well!

Great place. The food was tasty, the service was quick, prices were fair, and I loved that the place seemed to be run by a small family. I ordered the American breakfast with banana pancakes and coffee. The coffee was the best I've had so far while backpacking in India. I even bought some of their homemade peanut butter after seeing it on the shelf!

Varanasi cafe exceeded expectations! The owner is incredibly kind and helpful, and you can tell he puts his love into the food and restaurant. Highly recommend the Full Breakfast-- definitely order the coffee (incredible and strong, best in town!) and homemade peanut butter and papaya jam. Eating here was such a treat after traveling for over a month in India-- the food is healthy, fresh, and DELICIOUS!

Awesome home-made unsweetened peanut butter and papaya jam. Good coffee with espresso options as well. The owner is lovely and welcoming. I think they could put some effort into making the upstairs dining area a little nicer. Some fresh paint, nicer tables and chairs, maybe some decorations. Aside from that, lovely place to eat.

Best breakfast in India! Amazing owner who even provides us with blankets and a complimentary coffee to fight the cold. The peanut butter I’ve tried here was the best I’ve ever had. To sum up, I really can’t emphasize enough how good this place is. Must try in the city of Varanasi.

If you are looking for fresh, healthy food at a good price then look no further. All the food is cooked fresh and with clean water. Homemade brown bread, jam, and cookies all waiting for your arrival. A warm welcome and a huge menu including ten breakfast options, and a huge variety of European cheeses. you can even have a cooking lesson in the evening if you wish. Only one minute from the Ganges river. The local cow stops by for brown bread each day so why not you? I highly recommend the place, enjoy.

We had a set breakfast, the jam and bread are homemade. We also ordered an extra of peanut butter which is also homemade. The food is nice and reasonably priced. The decor of the cafe is not that impressive but it is more than made up for by the owners hospitality and food selection. The cafe is only 2 years old, he is still learning what we as customers want so all feedback is welcomed and valued. Someone complained about slow service but we didn't have that problem. However if we did, we wouldn't mind because everything is made fresh. Everything is also washed in mineral water! He invites people to come and look in his kitchen - very trustworthy. There is also a rooftop which is not sheltered so only useable in the evening but apparently has a good view, we will have to confirm that when we come back for dinner over the next few days (which we definitely will!). Someone also complained that the owner was unwelcoming. But I think everyone can appear unwelcoming when you don't give them an opportunity to show themselves! He is new to restaurant business, all it takes is a little of conversation and you realise how much he cares for his customers happiness.

Delicious!! To me one of the best food I ate in whole India, where I stayed five months. Everyday staying in Varanasi I went there. Calm atmosphere, freshly made food by a passionate cook, who enjoys seeing you enjoying the amazing meal.
