Review Open Hand Shop & Cafe - Varanasi

Praveen Singh
I highly recommend this cafe for breakfast. It has a good range of western breakfast choices if you want a change from local food. The coffee is outstanding. I like this place because there is no loud music, no one will force you to order immediately as soon as you sit, and there is no compulsion to leave as soon as you are finished eating. It feels like a place where I can sit and enjoy at my own pace. They also have some clothes and other things on sale. The staff are friendly and very competent.

Coffee is very good and breakfast menu is also good and well priced. Nice place to sit and relax. I think it is the Best place in Assi area to have breakfast. I do definitely recommend this place. Although the lunch meals (like pasta or wraps) are just average.
Andre Schoch
They make the best coffees in town, go for a double shop cappuccino (110Rp), and it's generally a nice, good value and very comfy hangout. There's some simple food at good prices, too. I wouldn't recommend their cheese cake, though, and service is very slow
Surabhi Vishwakarma
The place is really nice and quiet.. Good food and music.. You can enjoy a nice cup of coffee on the edge of your chair with blissful breeze in the balcony. There are also a lots things to buy but best thing is the ambiance..
Laurette Bell
This place is a very peaceful place to go and chill while eating or drinking something nice and reasonable price. In their shop they have lots of things with original prints (I guess that's why the price is kind of high). But anyways, they accept credit card for payment in both, the store and restaurant. I got this pretty original monkey from here, unique souvenir!
Agni Sarkar
Comfort food at a comfort place with sinful muffins. Home like ambience with a lot of interesting merchandise on sale. Do give the Cream Cheese Pasta & Dark Chocolate shake a try.
Nidhi Goswami
Comforting and quite place with good food and best coffee. This place is one of my favorites when i want to run away from hustle and chaos of the city. Also you can shop various handmade things here.
Sam Sumit
The cafe is situated in a very Peacefull colony. The board outside the cafe says "Good Coffee" and trust me, they aren't kidding. You can also buy stuff like photographs, postcards, hippie kind of clothes. This cafe is inside a home.. You'll get a very homely feeling. The staff is very friendly. You'll have a good time here.

Really great. It was so beautiful. It felt very different what with the dining area and the shop were moulded in together. The shopping options were quite varied and the items were wonderful. The owner was very nice. I really liked the laid-back feel and the overall cool atmosphere of the place. I will definitely be visiting again to purchase knick-knacks and gorge on their delicious food. P.S: The portions served were very generous.

Amazing place for food, shop and relax. I have been here many times, this one is located near Assi ghat ,ambience of this cafe is cool, food is amazing specially light meal. Shopping if hand made articles, apparels can be done here but they are on costly side. For the visitors balcony is also available for relaxing. Over all a 4 star rating for this one.

Quiet place to read eat drink repeat. Chocolate brownies are good, the only glitch is the last order 8:30pm deadline.
Cristian Ponce
It is probably one of the best capuccino we’ve had in India. The carrot cake was not so good tho. Quiet and cozy place with friendly staff.
Jenny Jane
The wake up juice ginger lemon Chili was just super good and fresh. The Pancake apple crumble was delicious. The best in Varanasi. And Super place to hang out
Anant Bangur
Great Breakfast options for both veg and non veg , boutique shop inside , I think the balcony view is better than inside sitting , staff are polite

In close affinity to the famous ASSI GHAT of varanasi this small cozy café is situated. For refreshment post an exhaustive tourist trip of ghats this is a go to place. P.S. Especially for foreign tourists. The snacks tastes good especially their bakery items, in particular the banana muffin. The ambience is really soothing and you wouldn’t know how time just passed. Something unique about this café is that it has a wide range of handmade articles made by women suffering from certain disorder and the profit gained from selling these articles is used to help them. Not at all overpriced so if you are in Varanasi, you must visit this place.
Living_bites
This small little cute place is best to satisfy your sweet cravings and to have amazing coffee. They have got the best cakes for sure everything is fresh and delicious. Best place for spending your evening coffee time.
Nihal Singh

To talk about its food, I can't stop telling about it to friends and family, it was so really delicious. Also they serve good coffee. I tasted muffins . It was also very yummy. One must visit it if he or she searching muffins nearby assi ghat.

Best places to have pasta arround assi.I would say this is one of my favorite place in town. They have this combined cafe + shop of hand made items. The ambience is quite different and pleasing . Service is also good.
Recommend👍

Good Coffee and dear friends make a great day ! Open hand shop is the ideal place to have a quick coffee and snacks and also indulge in some hand made clothes and accessories. Cool place with a slow pace you get all the time to sip the coffee and eat a hearty breakfast .
Srish_t
Good place if you are in mood for an early morning breakfast as it opens up around 8am. Situated near the assi ghat the decor is a reflection of a souvenir shop with ॐ shirts hanging on the wall and rows and rows of clothes with beautiful hand painted walls. Most of the crows you’ll see there will be of foreigners. A bit expensive tho.
Banarasi_chora
It was nice experience to be in this restaurant and having veg wrap with extra cheese , veg rice and cookies and cream frappe.

Rating - 4/5

Type - not to much pocket friendly.

This cute cafe caught my eye when I was just walking across the street. It claimed to have the best coffee in town, and we had to go see if that was true !
This tiny cafe is so cute and homely, and serves some really delicious food. We headed here for a late lunch after a tiring day trip to Prayagraj, and it was a great decision. We had a pasta salad and a sandwich, with some coffee of course. The food was good, and we loved the outdoor seating area, a great place for people watching !
We decided to come back for breakfast the next day, and had the Chocolate banana pancakes and an English breakfast with coffee. The good food was a great start to our day!

Food : 4/5
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5

They have one of the best coffee in this area. A super cute cafe with a souvenir shop. You can just sit back and relax. They offer an amazing pasta too. My personal favourite here is blueberry muffin.
Bhaavna Israni
One of my favourite places near Assi Ghat...
Open hand has great food and offers a great shopping experiencias well .. with hand made bags and svargalok and other items ..
Especially love their outdoor seating
Irresistible combination of good food and great ambience. The healthy salad and veg wrap come highly recommended. Good options for veg and vegan food
Gagan Preet
Open hand cafe is a very peaceful place near the ghats. It was a good experience over there and coffee of the cafe was so goo. Even you can buy some stuff and have the tasty food.
Aditi Pathak
Located near Assi Ghat, Open Hand Cafe has been one of my favourite go-to spot for breakfast. The place has cheerful vibes, and fresh, great food. My regulars include any of the pastas, salads, smoothies and of course, coffee. The portion size is always satisfactory, being just the right amount of light and filling, with feel-good vibes.
Shivani Singh
Visited this place few days back and my experience was so good. This is one of the best cafe. Partially divided into rooms this cafe offers yummiest muffins and coffee. They also provide some shopping options like clothes, handbags, envelops, hairbands etc. Its a beautiful cafe with lot of options bit crowded with foreigners. Now coming to the food everything i got was very good in taste. I would highly recommend to try out the muffins.

This place is a must for a fine breakfast in Varanasi if you are close to assi Ghat.

Along with the cafe, there's a small bakery and boutique shop. A place decked up for the art lovers. Love the art of life with some amazing muffins, cheesecakes, cappuccino, mocha coffees and relishing pastas.

Polite and well behaved staff.

The most beautiful area of the cafe is the outdoor balcony seating area from where u become the Audience of thousands of people going round the assi ghat

There is no denying the fact that salads are a perfect go-to option for many health freaks who are looking out to shed some extra kilos. Not only are they filled with nutritional value, but taste delicious as well. If you happen to be a salad lover, who is looking out for some really good places to binge on healthy yet tasty salads, then you've come at the right place. Although we didn't get our Health salad as mentioned in the menu coz few things were unavailable but still, it tasted so well and enriched. I'm sure the cafe can provide you whatever best they have. Also Tried the Black is beautiful and Chocolates are sweet...The drink tasted very average it could have been better in taste and in presentation too. You can have a variety of dishes of tuna fish as well. The ambiance is so cozy like a personal space in our home. They also sell some good handicraft products and dresses. I found it a bit overpriced. I hope my review will help..Do check in and share your experience.
All the best!

LOVED THE FOOD!🤤 This place left me speechless with the food and since I'm a pasta lover, I absolutely loved the pasta and the fries that come with salad. 💓 Glad to have discovered this place.

I came here for breakfast several times, never for shopping, so I will confine myself to remarks concerning the food. I regularly ordered coffee, toast, and occasionally a masala omelette or baked muffin of some type - usually blueberry or banana. In every case, these foods were adequate. The place is very clean as restaurants in Varanasi go, and the servers, though occasionally slow, were always polite. Prices seemed reasonable. A rating of 3 is fair.

This Place is Cafe cum Shop You Can Enjoy Your Food while Shopping. I liked the cappuccino & cheese Pasta with mushrooms. The place is small with positive environment
Situated near Assi Ghat, this cafe provides delicious coffee and home baked muffins... I tried Cappuccino and Chocolate chip muffin... It was yum. This cafe also sells clothing and accessories. I would like to visit the again.
Triparna Kalita
The café is a quaint little place located a few metres away from the Assi Ghat. I had Hot Chocolate, Egg and Cheese Sandwich and Chocolate Cake and all of them were delicious. The café might be a bit overpriced for students, but yeah, the food they served was definitely worth the money.
Shubham Kashyap
There is nothing very special about ambience. But I don't know why I really get a very homelike; peace sitting here. Coffee is awesome; deserts are even better. I can give 6/5 to banana Muffins and apple cinnamon cakes. If you have to chat with someone at length. This place is apt for it.
S_suppi
A lill overpriced café good for cheese cakes and coffee ...
good place to spend time as u get personal group space inside... won't suggest to shop for anything available there as the price are more than 3x their original price 😂😂😂
Euan.escott
Very nice place to detox from the busy outside. Food was tasty. Only negative is they forgot one order most likely due to the language barrier.

Coffee has always been a significant part of my life. For me, it's a chance to start my day and gather my thoughts - it's fuel for my creative process.

Open Hand Cafe is my favorite haunts in Varanasi. A perfect place to spend your time with friends or even alone. Their Coffee, pies and cucumber refresher are some of the must haves when you are here.
Open Hand Cafe also has a branch in Leh City. They have similar menu and part of the shop is kept to promote the local handicraft sourced from their own artisans.

So this place is a chill place of all the time. A simple coffee shop with a good Ambience is all that, this place is about. Coffee and salads are good try. Reasonable pricing. Cozy and comfortable. And they have shop inside the cafe which is very attractive.
Akanksha Singh
The muffins and coffee are amazing - particularly the blueberry muffin. Apple caramel pie is great too. Laid-back, comfy ambience. All in all, perfect for a casual evening.
Amrita Choudhary
This is my happy place in Banaras. View from the balcony is really cool. Their Open hand chai is a must have for any tea lover. Breakfast options are also really good. They serve the best chocolate cake in town. Their muffins are fresh-baked and worth the amount.
Ankita JaisWal
Best in Varanasi to try. They have their branch in Paharganj as well which I am yet to try. Tried almost everything. Muesli breakfast with yogurt and honey is the best, cuppucino, latte, chickpea salad is the best, muffins are too good. Canadian breakfast and the farmer breakfast is good. Try the Veg wrap, it's very fulfilling.

Now , anyone who goes to this place and reviews this place forgets that open hand is not just a cafe and it's definitely not any shop like the others .

These guys are trying to promote ethical manufacturing processes . Now the cafe is for you to enjoy while shopping . No doubt that things could have been a little better and the food could be tastier . But look at this place as a new experience with brings shopping and food closer .

The cheesecake is nice and the coffee is good , so is the hot chocolate . The staff is polite but need more training . I would have given only 4points , but the extra 0.5points for how homely this place feels .

Jai Hind

If you ever feel like having good dessert, DON'T bother coming here. Had cheesecake and brownie, both were awful and bland. Coffee was okay, but you could get better at lesser prices elsewhere.

Service was fast so if you want to grab a quick bite, this place is fine.

Ambiance is...well it's basically a shop selling overpriced knick-knacks for foreigners and tourists.
The place is cozy, somewhat claustrophobic with all the things they sell (you will have bags and carpets displayed over your head if you sit inside) and has bad music playing.

A good place if you wanna get some work done (while on headphones I guess) or get to the balcony seating with a few smokes and coffee (so you can forget the food).

Shruti Tripathi
Once you enter the cafe, the ambience never fails to amaze you. Loved the way they have used up all the space. The vintage flooring and small ceiling walls with posh furnitures make your worst days happy. The quality and quantity of food here is the best thing about this place. Amazing coffee collection and some uncanny varieties in food. Pasta and salads are something you should definitely go for. If you have got sweet tooth, cheer up...cause u are about to be met with whole wild range of some good pudding !!!
If once u have been here, this will be your perfect go to place.
PS book lovers: this is your ultimate spot for books and coffee.
Manju Mittal
This place is mostly a shop with few chairs and settee scattered here and there. Probably there was a load-shedding because when we arrived around 5 pm the place was mostly dark therefore we sat in the balcony. We ordered pancake and cheesecake. The pancake smelled mostly of uncooked egg, and the cheesecake was very bland and ordinary. Will never visit this place again.
Oshana Kewal
Beautiful place. Lovely ambience. A Travellers hub in all its true sense. And they have cute stuff at the shop too! Though the food was not great but the drinks balanced the combo and made it good! Couldn't have got a better boost up in this hot weather 💃
Agnivesh Narmetaa
Finally managed some time to come here. When I have entered, there was a sign board inside the gate pointing in the wrong direction...LOL! But It was really nice place to hangout. The food was good. I mainly admire the presentation except the delivery was slow but that made some time to explore the place. This place was not only for foodies instead it showcased some good post cards and gifts. Price was nominal as per services.

#Apple_Caramel_Muffin #BananaMuseli #Cheesecake

Best Muffins in Varanasi so far.. Apple Caramel was best.. Banana Museli was also good.. Besides this cheese Cake was good.. But personally I dint like its taste.. But this is what actual cheesecake is like not the mawa cakes on other shops..

Banana Strawberry smoothie was not so good.. It's better in Flavours Cafe.

Also tried their cold COFFEE... but it was a waste!

Recommended for a visit! 😉
Prerna Khullar
Yummy warm muffins served with a dullop of butter...but morning is the best time to visit it .. Small sitting area... would remind you of your drawing room at home.
A bit high priced but its a good place for once in a while.
Menu is mostly continental and quantity of food in their serving is not bad.
Coffee and service can be a bit better though.

Nupur Jhawar
Its a cozy place with a few sitting inside and couple of them in the balcony. Its an old house of which 1st floor has been converted into a cafe. You might have to share ur table if it gets crowded. However, love the way its done.
I have had their Maggi, French fries and cappuccino. Non of them disappoint me.
- Red sauce pasta: Horrible, gravy tasted stale!
- frappe: Disappointing!
- chocolate muffin : just average

Overall, I feel the place is very overrated and rating goes like,

Food:2.5/5
Ambience:4/5
Service:3/5

PS: You can check in at this place for a date or to enjoy your a hot coffee when it rains
Catching up with an old friend? Why don't you do it the most traditional way. Open hand cafe being one of the oldest coffee place in town carrying the vibes just needed to bond with your friend. Go ahead grab a coffee nd snacks of your choice an evening view would be remarkable!
Megha
A very small place which needs some airconditioning. Its too hot inside. Went there on a friends recommendation but it wasnot that great. All cake and pastry i found just homemade. Average place.
Abhishek Jalan
Perfect for a coffee date
Food isnt that great but the drinks and muffins are great
Also the location is nice and peaceful to just go and enjoy !
Suhani Taneja
A very cosy place where you are requested to remove your shoes before entering its premises. It also houses lots of handicraft items as this place is generally frequented by foreign tourists. I love this place for its freshly baked muffins. They are soo yumm especially banana one. So if you love muffins then this is your place 😊

Love the way they have updated a house into a astonishing bistro and a shop for Custom-made garments and accessories. Recently have been heading off to this place every week to lead social events as it gives the best feel to it, it attracts a huge amount of nonnatives and along these lines you'll for the most part find guests here. Ive keep running over the most humble staff in this spot. Setting off to the food, since its a bistro you can't expect significantly anyway they serve extraordinary sandwiches and pancakes. An immaculate chilling spot in varanasi.
Ruhie Kumar
Great coffee, amazing desserts in Varanasi. Beautiful shop and lovely staff. I would recommend the Spanish omelette and cappucino. Food is alright in general, but all their beverages are excellent. It's located very close to Assi ghat, just the right place to have a coffee, read a book and unwind.
Utkarsh Bansal
Nice relaxing atmosphere at this small cafe which has some cool shopping with basic menu. They were out of most of the items on the menu during our visit .Tried there coffee and cake which was pretty good.
Pratik Goenka
Nothing much to say about this joint visited Assi Ghat on the last day of my trip and landed up here for muffins(famous for those) and was quite surprised because it was not that tasty, light, chocolaty etc. But again this is my own preference..
Kanchan Shewaramani
I have been here regularly and I have frequently had white sauce chicken pasta. The taste is incredible and the pricing is good too. The interior makes this place the perfect place for friends to hang out.
Purvi Jain
Love the way they have remodelled a house into an amazing cafe and a shop for handmade items and toys. Lately have been visiting this place every week to conduct meetings as it provides the best ambience for it, it attracts a lot of foreigners and hence you'll mostly find tourists here. Ive come across the most humble staff in this place. Coming to the food, since its a cafe you can't expect a lot but they serve good sandwiches and pancakes. A perfect chilling place in varanasi.
Kanwal Kayastha
Just love this place!!! Its the coolest cafe to be, in vns. First you get little upset seeing the entrance and small staircase but once you're in, you just love the cosy and homely feel and decorations. The coffees, i must say are "too good" and prices are very justified keeping the size of mug or glass in mind & mind it, i am comparing with those professional international chains like CCD or Barista and even Starbucks ;) i like the 'sides' too but i mostly go here with friends when i need caffeine in my body and some light English music :P
A café every Banarasi should go at least once!!! And its a place where you can tag your non-banarasi friends too & you won't be embarrassed :)
Swaroop Kumar
Its a nice place to sit down with friends and have a good chat. However, dont come here to get away from the heat since I have never seen the AC working. The food is expensive given varanasi standards. The service is good and you ll probably find good privacy since there are many rooms. And you can buy various handmade objects and these funds go for supporting underprivileged women and children.
Lokesh Mundra
Nice restaurant as compared to varanasi standards. Its a proper café situated near assi ghat.
I liked this place,it serves nice food, its muffins are famous all over Varanasi and also its sandwiches and omelette.
Its club sandwich is also very famous,I personally liked this restaurant.
Rajesh Bhasin
Its three days in Banaras and am missing some quality food. Thanks to Zomato, we land at this nice small and cozy place. Informal and polite. Expect leisure service but surely some quality food. Walnut Muffins, Tuna Wrap and club sandwich were awesome. Won't recommend Ginger Spritzer which was light on Ginger.
Visited the second day too. Worth a visit.
Mandeep Singh Loomba
I was on the lookout for a place for some traditional breakfast and found this. Its a gem of a place. Has a very positive and relaxed vibe to it. On the first floor of an old fashioned house, its staff is open and welcomes you like a good friend. You can sit any where on any table that suits your liking. You are surrounded by the shop items and the smell of delicious food being prepared for various diners. The food itself (we tried the breakfast menu and quite a few items they were) is just perfect and tasty - omlettes well cooked, sausages done right, juices fresh and frothy, coffee done well, muffins soft and just the right amount sweet. Portions are fulfilling. Its served fresh and warm. The quality and hospitality of this place is top notch. As for the one star less, two things - first, the shop items are a bit pricy and second and the most important, it should convert its menu to an all day menu. We wanted to try the pastas and sandwiches, but they were only available after 12. Which also means that i am coming back again for lunch / dinner when i visit Varanasi again. This place should definitely be on your list for casual relaxation with friends and family and when you want good honest food.
Taylah
Food here is sooooo good!!! Anyone visiting Varanasi needs to go here, great ambience and lovely people, quality food for a great price, have been here 3 times in 2 days......
Lola Van Vorst
This place is perfect if you're after some western creature comforts, I had the open hand breakfast and it was DELICIOUS!!! The iced Americano was amazing and the freshly squeezed orange juice was very nice.

My friend had the Canadian French toast which was also super tasty!! Worth a visit even if it's just for a coffee.
Nishith Mohan
Perhaps amongst the best coffee shops and hangout site. Caramel Muffins are a delicacy and if your day is going well try Chocolate Brownie as well. All in all value for money with courteous staff and peaceful ambience as cherry toppings.
Kavita Kapoor
This place has a great atmosphere and is what the future of retail should be modeled on.

I would recommend the coffee's, wifi fit for a work call, the free electricity and the relaxed atmosphere but I would steer clear of the sandwiches.
Anshulaj1
A great hangout place very nicely done, food is good international flavor in context of the city - would definitely go back here. Some cool things to buy as well!
Simon Lindeque
Banana mango smoothies are always perfect.Fridge cheese cake... wonderful.
Omelettes substantial.
Tomato Pasta , excellent.

Great vibe.. no complaints : )

The place will delight u with its offbeat yet cozy ambience. With limited options in its menu Open Hand Shop offers few but worthy products. It is a nice place for spending sometime by urself or with ur friends. Assortment of niche handicraft and textile products will delight people having appreciation for such products even more.
Rishabh Dwivedi
A difficult to find place.. But once you get in it feels like a brilliant place to be.. In its essence it is a coffee shop with some bakery items which has started to serve savory items offlate.. The service is slow which compliments the entire setup which is a bit laid back.. The coffee, hot chocolate and the freshly baked muffins are great.. Some of the savoury dishes are also too good... A perfect place for a Sunday morning brunch.. And yes..the shop has a lot of handicraft items which you can buy and spend all the spare time.
Sreevathsan Sivakumar
I had been here when I was on a trip to varanasi..
I gotta say I was impressed by their menu.
Great ambience and good service..
This hot chocolate is the best I had ever tasted.
Hats off..
Keep up the good work.!
Ila Reddy
Best brownie you will find in Uttar Pradesh! Nice place to sit and work. Free wifi is a bonus. Minutes away from Assi Ghat. Affordable prices and a good selection of snacks and drinks.
Artika Shah
Open hand cafe is one of the best cafes in Varanasi with a very nice ambience, free wifi and cozy private spaces. Their overall menu is very nice but some of my favourites are : Club Sandwich with omelette, White Sauce Pasta, Caramel Muffin (a must have), chicken sausage, chicken nuggets, their breakfast and Frappe and Cappuccino. They also have variety of chais and one of them is shown in the image below which is Darjeeling Tea.
Aditi_tulsyan
I have been to this place two to three times and I believe when you want to have good times , some thoughtful conversation with your friends coupled with some reviving drinks and snacks, go for this place , quick service , good interior, good food , I tried mango banana smoothie for the first time and it was very nice , must pick !!
Vaibhav Nath Sharma
Service and food both are really pathetic... I wish I could rate them zero but unfortunately I can't... I don't think so at any cost I will revisit the place... They call themselves "café " and now I don't believe them... ;)
Divya Moorjani
Went for breakfast there this morning. Chilled, clicked, aye, chilled, clicked, ate took a spree, clicked, chilled, ate.
Spanish omelette spread
And hazelnut coffee, die for it and you won't regret.
Special mention for umesh, the server, the attendant and who became a photographer for us also.
Nice and sexoooo. ?
Das Gupta Subh
I'm at this pace for breakfast. This one at the first look has impressed me enough. I have a huge order and waiting for the food. The smell is yum.
Sukrita Mahon
Hardly any seating at the café, and the shop attached had very random items to sell (winnie the pooh stuffed toys, really?). The bakery didn't seem to be functioning too well, there was no cheesecake, only an average muesli muffin. Give it a miss unless you're into overhyped places catering to typical Western tourists.
Nishant Kalra
On our visit to assi ghat and adjoining places, we were looking to have a place to have lunch..and luckily we encountered this awesome place
It was a cafe cum restaurant cum gift shop located on a first floor with seating like that of home having artistic interiors and great Hindi music

Talking about food, we ordered "black is beautiful " and cold coffee as drinks..black is beautiful is coffee with dark chocolate syrup and chocolate brownie , both of drinks were very too good
Next we had chicken pasta (in white sauce) and it was very delicious , probably one of best pastas ever had
Finally we had banana pancake as desserts which was not that great as previous one, but was decent

Host of the restaurant was very cheerful and friendly; we got very impressed by her hospitality

I miss these kind of outlets in delhi

AMAZING espresso. Best espresso for months. And this is coming from a Melbournian, where coffee is a religion. Very nice atmosphere and staff works very hard. The food was western and ok.

Seemed to have some nice clothes/scarves as well and cute postcards.

We would happily return!
