Review The Keshari Restaurant - Varanasi

Mara Stefania
came here from Lonely Planet, and we were not disappointed! service was fast, place was full with locals and the food… oh my goodness it was delicious. the chole bhature exceeded expectations, as did the keshari dosa. the thali was great too, albeit nothing astounding. bear in mind portions are massive. great place!!!

I think it's the one of the best restaurant in gowdhulia road. Dishes are very delicious and the behavior of the delivery boys are very good. I love this place. Itis near to Kashi Biswanath 2no. Gate. First food and south Indian items are also very well prepared.

A nice restaurant that serves quality food in Varanasi town. It's a famous and old restaurant. They serve a lot of south indian, chinese, continental, north indian dishes and Taste is great. Ambience is good. Although the price is a bit more than other restaurants near by, the quality of the food and the cleanliness make up for it.

We went during lunch one day and ordered thalis. Good food, although service was a bit slow. For six thalis, it cost us 1800, slightly more expensive than I expected. But it was very filling. Ambience was a standard family restaurant, nothing great but decent.

A nice restaurant that serves quality food in Varanasi town. Although the price is a bit more than other restaurants near by, the quality of the food and the cleanliness make up for it. We tried aloo Paratha and veg fried rice. An add-on of curd to fried rice cost us 80 rs. Other than this, everything was fine.

Very clean and calm place in morning hours. Service is very good and food is delicious but can be improved. In the midst of the temple area, this is the best restaurant I found. Unfortunately they don't serve the coffee in the morning at the time of breakfast. So far not tried the lunch at this place.

Overall it is always satisfactory visiting here, they serve lip smacking and delectable food items and have really wide options to explore and choose from. Sometime you may find it really very crowdy but their service and staffs are really very generous and friendly, so they can instantly adjust and create some free space for you ❤️ You will never be disappointed with the taste and service here and that's why a lot of people have this as go-to option when they visit Dashashwamedh Ghat, the only problem which may arise is just the crowd and that too will be sorted within 5-10 minutes, so do visit here for sure and enjoy. ☺️

Waffle icecreams are the best 👍💯but charges are very high as compare to other shops. There all items are costly. Papdi chaat which I tried not so good it's ok ok. Samosa chat is nice, I can recommend this, but not papadi chaat. Most of the time it's bit crowded. Here u have to take a token of coin and then give to uncle and ask for what u have taken the token. Inside it u can get juices, shakes etc. All the varities of chaats are availaible. One of the disappointment was that their charges are very high. For one plate of golgappa u have to give Rs 55. Give a visit u will enjoy it, Must try the waffle ice cream 3 scoop👌

Great experience, Very vast variety of "vyanjans" available here. Food quality is very good and tasty, Located in a bit crowded area, but space management is quite well in the restaurant above the ground floor. Service was good and quick, even after being tightly packed with customers. Would recommend to go for it once, if you're in the area and want to have decent food.

It's an old age restaurant I've been going to this place since my childhood. They serve balanced south Indian food. Chowmien is good. I had mostly tried Rawa Dosa and Onion Uttapam. They have a variety of sweets as well. One can't refuse to have one.
The ambiance is ordinary but when one passes by the restaurant gets an amazing smell of food.
Banarasi_chora
Its n old fashioned restaurant with bad quality of food and quantity. It need up gradation and improve its food quality. Its price is high but food quality is not according to the price you pay.

If something is hyped in Varanasi than this place on way to Dashashwamedh Ghat.

I ordered their special thaali and not a single item was good in flavours. I left it as it was brought to my table. Felt bad to waste so much food :/

At this place food quality is too much good specially dosa and sambhar sitting area is good but it's a non AC restaurant overall meal is yummy.....
There is a little problem to parking a bike

It proved to be just a hype for me. With too many hopes from the variety of Paneer, I would say I was left disappointed. Yes they have more than 40 varieties of Paneer alone so it becomes difficult to choose, and staff wasn't of much help either. I had Paneer Mussalam, and it was nothing you would expect from a place famous for Paneer dishes. For me the buzz stops only at the point that they have more than 40 varities but sadly not the taste.
Happy Eating :)

I found the food nice, how ever the waiter was just pushing me over and over again for a tip. once he realised I was not going to give him a tip he then made it very clear he wanted me to move on. this is even with many free tables around me.

Not a great place to dine, staff is not co-operative atall. Some dishes are good but not a worthy place to visit for regular food. Overall I can't recommend others to visit.
Foodie
Nothing great about this place.
Average food, bad service , dull ambiance as compared to the prices. Even a road side stall can serve better food.

If you are doing shopping in Dashashwamedh road and hungry Then can go here for break fast and lunch
I love Keshari special cheese kofta for lunch and for breakfast south Indian foods
Dosa means The Keshari Resturant

Keshari restaurant is by far the only place that can compete with Shahi restaurant which is another iconic place in Varanasi.

Taste is good . Quantities can be a little less for people with big appetite. But most importantly it is the best when it comes to cost effectiveness. Very pocket friendly .

The service is quick . The location is a bit crowded so one can be a little hesitant in visiting this place . But when the craving crawls in no one can help but visit this place .

Jai Hind

little over priced and taste was even okay okay. We asked for thali which was one of them in the menu (Marwari Thali) at Rs 150 , waiter rudely said this is not avialble and has been shut off from quite some time.
This should not be the way to explain if there is any dish not available in the menu. Very less manners staff.

Also we asked to change the table from 1st floor where he said, i don't manage ground flr. Manager was ir-responsive too. Overall Very bad experience. Will not go again!

Service - 0 star ( looked like waiters were only keen for tips from foreigners) no respect here. This was only my bad experience in Varanasi, everything else was great!

I got food poisoning after eating here. The place was recommended on lonely planet. After aartI I went with my thai friend who wanted to eat indian food. I cannot begin to tell how bad the food was. The naans were thick and undercooked, paneer gravy was greasy, biryani was like left over plain rice fried with orange color and vegetables. I write this while staying in rather than exploring banaras.

Let me write the positives first, excellent vegetarian food, prompt service.. we had their signature kofta curry which was very nice.. paneer kadhai was very spicy but worth a try. I would give a 4.5 for the food.
Negatives are, ambiance (2 for that), Only cash payment and no sweet dish. And Location !
Tip- don't confuse it with Keshari ruchikar which is just around the corner. Also, the Google location is wrong. Google shows its location inside Mandir road, instead it's a bit more further towards gadaulia. Best is to ask a local.
Was very hungry after the evening aarthi , the shop is nearby Dashaswmedh ghat .
Its a neat shop , had masala dosa - 3/5 . Though i must say it is a tad bit overpriced for the food here

Tried paneer lucknowi which was hot and spicy.... Veg fried rice was decent too... The quality of staff needs to be improved... They can have some local specialities in the menu which is currently missing...

A very decent eatery , closest to the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Snacks in the ground floor complete with thandai , kulfi , chaat and lassi. First floor houses the eatery. Veg Thalis available here are just too good. Great variety of daal , paneer , roti , paratha , rice. Courteous staff ensure you have a heartful. Highly recommended.

The food quality is good, but costly.
The rates given here are old.
The rates are higher now.
Paneer preparations are nice. The quality of the paneer was commendable, few restaurants use such good paneer.

Terrible restaurant, poor taste and now poor quality also, cocky owner. The only thing good about this restro is its location else everything is bad

Old Streets Of Benaras You will find This Hidden Restaurant With barely any visibility. Comfortable place to Sit and Relax , Very Slow Service, Overrated Food , as we ordered Special Thalis food Was Okay Just Ordinary, I loved the breads Though and Quantity is awesome but it lacks Taste 👎🏿 Over All Expensive stuff As Compared to the peers & Ordinary Food .

This place is attached to my childhood memories.. Nice sitting area and friendly staff. Everything they serve is good as far as I know.. their special dosa, cholay bhaturey and mixed utthapum are worth trying. Although you will have to wait little longer to get your order but it's fine if the food is good.

Very very average food out here. Best avoided. The street food around may be a better option.

I ordered a special thali but they only had a Marwari thali. Served 4 thick chapatis (cold) without ghee, a spicy aloo rassa and a shabby mix vegetable. Dal / rice was a saving grace.

This is ny second visit to varanasi and also my second visit to kesari. The food is absolutely delicious. Being a hardcore non vegetarian, vegetarian food can seem boring but trust me when I say that this restaurant really knows how to cook good vegetarian food! Loved their thalis and their chaats and especially their boondi ka raita. Must visit for anyone who comes to varanasi! :)

The best place in Varanasi! Ordered the special thali and it was fantastic. It's very popular amongst the locals too and apparently they swear by the place. I won't be surprised if that's the case.

Looking for a quick bite, reasonable prices and quiet ambience, enter this place near the gowdolia crossing. The food is tasty enough to satisfy the taste buds. The seating is congested though and the service is quite slow. The food kind of makes up for the delay in service.

This is my childhood restro. If you want good south indian in banaras then you must try this place.
Their masala dosa is really awesome. And it take cares of your budget also.

Keshri restaurant is simple place, dont visit with very high expectations. It has bit congested sitting arrangement, but u wont mind coz afterall you are in godowlia. It offers wide variety of veg food and undoubtedly masala dosa is their speciality. 'Keshari ka dosa..' is quiet famous among banarsis. After hours of shopping in godowlia one can have a satisfactory meal here at very reasonable prices.

This place is well known for its chole batoore...which is available from around 10:30 am....they serve 2 very large puris and a good amount of the chole....satisfied my expectation...i dont think one person can finish it...priced very reasonably....also serves many south indian breakfast dishes. Not a very classy restaurant but a neat sit out among the quiet streets of varanasi...

Pathetic!!
A lesser word to describe such an awful place in just one word. Everything I asked for wasn't there. Coca Cola or Thumbs Up or rather any type of aerated drinks was out of stock at the same time. I then ordered for a chocolate chip ice cream which to my surprise was also out of stock. After this I had no other option but to walk out from that place.
Never am I ever visiting that place again.

While there is no dearth of vegetarian food in and around Gowduliya in Banaras, a classic and clean sit-down restaurant is hard to come by. Keshari has no competitors really.

Ambience - Designed like a typical Sagar restaurant here. The interior is mainly decorative wood carvings lending the place an air of elegance.

Service - A lot of tables, I could see, were waiting impatiently but we got lucky. Service was a little scattered.

Food - I had high hopes from the thali, given that it was to be my only experience of a typical banarasi meal. Though tasty, it was quite random. Standard paneer, aloo and mixed veg subzis, pulao and roti. The sweet was not fresh and felt like a forced afterthought. The next day's paneer lucknowi was again so-so. The problem with this place is not bad food, but the randomness and lack of authenticity.

Price - The special thali costs Rs. 250. The subzis are priced at around Rs. 175. Given the average food, this is far from VFM.

Verdict - If you are famished, Keshari is not a bad option. Just keep your expectations in check.

We really liked our meal here: palak paneer and deluxe thali. Seems like an institution: good location, well worn fittings, wood panelling, efficient service. Would happily go back!

Soley Targeted at the serving the huge amount of crowd, who converge in the heart of the city for shopping purposes. Food is ok, enviroment can be amazingly calm at times, service and security are ok. Location is bang on(right in the middle of the market)

There dosa and chole bhature is tasty.
