This ghat is dominated by Darbhanga Palace, an imposing structure built by the king of Darbhanga (Bihar) in 1915 along with a nearby Shiva temple. At the top is a shrine of Kukutesvara.

The ghat's aesthetic beauty, with its historic architecture and serene ambiance, creates a captivating atmosphere. The ancient charm of Darbhanga Ghat adds a unique touch to the spiritual essence of Varanasi.

History & Facts: Built in the year 1812, Munshi Ghat is named after Sridhara Narayana Munshi, who was a finance minister in the estate of Nagpur. In 1915, the Brahmin king Kameshwar Singh Gautam Bahadur of Darbhanga (Bihar) purchased the ghat and extended it. The extension later became known as Darbhanga Ghat.

All ghats ate best of Varanasi. No one can be compared to each other. Every one has its own history and story.

The perfect way to see all the ghats in Varanasi is - boat Tour. Agents will come to you when you will be nearby ghats and negotiate with you, make sure that before riding. but again, to see 130 ghats and their beauty, you must have this in Varanasi. Darbhanga Ghat is a photogenic favorite due to the luxury BrijRama Palace hotel, the hotel was originally a fort built by Shridhara Narayana Munshi (adjacent Munshi Ghat is named after him), who was the minister for the estate of Nagpur. In 1915, King Rameshwar Singh Bahadur of Darbhanga (Bihar) acquired the palace and that's how ghat named after him. Apart from the ghat, the family also built a magnificent palace in the 1900s near the bank of the river from where they could watch the rituals and other activities. Post-1915, the second floor of the palace was constructed and an elevator — one of the first in Asia — was installed. This ghat also has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva.

It's not so crowded. You can sit and enjoy the views over ganges.

Darbhanga Ghat is located south of Dasashwamedh Ghat next to Rana Mahal Ghat. This imposing palace with its towers and turrets was built in the early 1900s by the royal family of Bihar. One of the highlights of this palace is the very early lift that was operated by hand, now said to be out of operation. The Ghat has a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is also a building nearby that is used for performing religious rituals.

In the Times when there's a huge crowd on the main Ghats, darbhanga ghat is much more calm and serene.

It is very calm and peaceful here. It is named after the royal family of the princely state of Darbhanga from Bihar. The ghat has a grand Shiva Temple. It also has a shrine of Kukuteshwara.

Darbhanga Ghat has beautiful architecture and is more peaceful than the more popular Ghats. The best time to visit is from October to March in my opinion. During this time heavy winter clothes are recommended.
