Raj The Traveller
I visited one of the most famous babai hotel and I had Ghee Idli and Pongal...taste was good...

One of the best places in South India to have tiffins. I just loved the experience and Kudos to Babai Hotel team for maintaining the taste for more than 45 yrs (I started having their Idlis at Age 5). As always fantastic taste of Idli and Vada, Chutneys are super with Karam podi served with Ghee. A must visit place to have tiffins while in Vijayawada. I highly recommend this place

Small size place, but all healthy food available... not deep fried items

Doesn't really live up to the hype and prices charged! Tried their famous Idli, topped with ghee, butter & served with podi, 2 chutneys and it's fine. It's not as good as expected and I have had better Idlis in Vijayawada itself! Had Upma Pesarattu, made with Wheat Upma then and it's good. Tried Filter Coffee at last and it's unexpectedly great! Service is good and quick as well. But there are only two tables inside this place and most of the customers can't sit and eat. Seating capacity can be increased considering the generally big crowd here.

Good food but maybe not quite worth the hype. Very eccentric times of activity also, so one can't simply turn up. Most disappointed with the fact that their famed filter coffee outlet was closed for some reason, so I couldn't taste the coffee!

The taste of idli is awesome. Very soft and delicate. Must try here. Idli plate (3pcs) is 60₹. Which is very costly in my opinion.

After a long gap, babai hotel once again reopened with some extraordinary illustrations and interior was attractive with all doodling and the designs by our youthful professionals. They done a fine job. Coming to taste - it never changed, the taste and the savour is static. absolute goodness. They introduced a stall for only filter coffee.. I didn't got a chance to try filter coffee but I hope it's at its best.

Traditional Andhra breakfast items. Tasty and value for money. Please don't miss their signature dish Idli. Their coffee counter outside serves fresh coffee which rounds off the breakfast experience. Place is open in 1st half of the day only.

Babai hotel is one of the oldest n famous breakfast place locatated at Gandhi Nagar near Alankar Theatre in Vijayawada. Many of politicians/ film actors whoever visiting Vijayawada they will sure come here and have the breakfast.. the food quality is same as like first generation management only, the prices were some higher, but the taste is good. Must try spl idly/ Upma pesara / filter coffee

Worth the hype. I had the best Idlis of my life and had to order a couple of more plates to completely satisfy my palette.

I was here recently with my family during my trip to Vijayawada. We order idly, karam dosa, Pongal and filter coffee. This is a must visit place in Vijayawada

They say this hotel is a legend for its idly. I ordered famous babai idly. Idly was so soft and delicious it just melted in my mouth. The chutneys, ghee combination 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻. Upma pesarattu is a big disappointment didn’t liked the upma. Will visit again for idly

Legendary babai hotel :) the idli and dosa are to die for. Thought it had lost its charm before eating after a long time. But it's still gold.

Age old hotel , with same ambience from decades. It's a very simple place with a very simple menu. There is nothing like ambience or service over der. It is self service. Food is good , pricing is reasonable

Great food and great ambient environment. Little old fashioned but still a great experience will be visiting once in a while in future....:)

Old hotel for tiffins. Karampodi is must try for ₹5. Limited menu, but quality guaranteed. Located in central business district, easily accessible.

Not clean - no hygiene. Food is tasty. It would be great if they served food with some cleanliness, which literally doesn’t exist at this restaurant!

Now a day s this hotel is not up to mark.... Only name is good... Idli is good but not up to publicity... Eat once if not go there<br/>,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Went there just to check whether it really offers you the best accordingly to it's fame.ate masala dosa and found nothing special and nothing bad.but later came to know that it is famous for it's kaaram idly.will try it definitely later.

This place is famous for Idlis. Over years they still maintain the same quality of it. Awesome taste. Literally the soft idlis just melted in the mouth.<br/><br/>Dosas were added on demand, but they are just the same as they are outside.<br/><br/>And before I begun my review, I read a few reviews. I wonder why people always have HIGH expectations. Had they want a cozy place with tasty food and less prices, why don't they start a business of their own. I wish I can tell them all that "You are paying rs. 35/- only not rs. 150/- and get a hard idlis like those 5* hotels"<br/><br/>Great Going Babbai, dont worry about the negative comments.<br/><br/>Just try to renovate the place and maintain it neatly and give us more IDLIS :)

This is the famous Babai Hotel of Gandhi Nagar, Vijayawada. Established in 1942, this was started by the man, Patruni Samba Murti. By the locals he was called as “Babai” and hence the name. It became a salutation thereafter. The idly was so famous that big hotels had ‘Babai hotel idly’ in their menu.<br/><br/>Their menu and motto are simple. They need to supply quality Idly, Upma, Dosai and Pongal to their customers so that they continue to expand their clientale. The menu has been the same for a long time and they have maintained the taste too.<br/><br/>When I was googling on Vijayawada, this hotel had many big names attached to it. I was shocked to see such a following to this hotel’s idlis and dosas. You wouldn’t believe me if I say Shri. NTR himself served idlis to Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee during the 1988 Mahanaadu at Vijayawada. See the picture below.<br/><br/>The other famous names who were regulars to this hotel even though it was small and can accommodate about 20-25 people at a time were Savitri, ANR, Chandra Mohan, etc. Indeed Babai idlies were their heaven. I am astonished by the dedication the man has given to bring the hotel to this level and that his successors are taking it up till date.<br/><br/>That’s the entire hotel captured by my phone. Anytime of the day it’s full. If you want to finish your breakfast or dinner within 200, this is the place you need to head over to.<br/><br/>I ordered Idly and my colleague ordered Podi Dosai.<br/><br/>Idly – INR 35/-<br/><br/>The idly had creamy ghee spread over like the cheese in Masala fries. The ghee is prepared by them with the milk from the cows owned by the family. I understood the meaning of கெட்டி chutney here and it tasted heavenly. They don’t serve sambhar but I feel you wouldn’t mind it’s absence. The Podi was so good that you can literally eat a plateful alone. The idlis were soft and along with the chutneys it was bliss. Totally loved it and came out happily. Extra chutney is given on request.<br/><br/>This is the kitchen from where the idlis and the dosas are churned out. There is a brilliant co ordination among the workers. You don’t get to wait more than 10 minutes for your order. They get it done ASAP. When the hotel has such celebs as it’s customers, they still run on the same place within the same walls even after renovation. I m floored by their service. Hope you guys would try this hotel on your next visit to Vijayawada.<br/><br/>The green board behind the man explains why people are good around you and that people like them are being loved. This is a great gesture by the owners and it will even take them to greater heights.<br/><br/>Thank you so much. Let’s meet again in another blog.<br/><br/>Please follow me on the instagram handle - @epomesoruthan and show some love.

I been visiting this place from childhood as I bought up here, the idly was really amazing and they serve with butter different types of chutney's. However, its become very commercial these days the price has flown up it was not as authentic before if you are visiting Vijayawada ensure to have a breakfast at least once here also dont try any other thing apart from idly.

Kitchen is dirtier than the street it is on... taste is good but just can’t ignore the filth around the place they cook. The people are friendly but I think they are resting on their legacy and laurels

If you want to have the best idlies in the world then this is the place. If you are in Vijayawada then make some time for this place and u will not regret.
Satya Madhu Varshini
Over hyped. This place is good but must say lost the charm it boasted of earlier. The idlis are not in the right consistency and are toned down to make profits. You will love your tiffins here, but if you will definitely miss the old charm. Just adding ghee, butter on everything does not make them better. You will not be disappointed but the old charm is no more existent.
Sivaram Gadamsetty
Quality of the food has degraded over time. The staff are not friendly and totally overpriced. You can get quality food at much cheaper rates elsewhere.
Kishan Mallik
Undoubtedly this is the baap of all babai idlis across the world. Their idlis come with ghee and butter unlike elsewhere. And their pesarattu upma accompanied by allam chutney is heaven on the earth.

The best hotel I ever seen in terms of quality where I had been visiting this place from 20 years . QuAlity of idli and dosa are still best to me . Located in Gandhi Nagar main road .
Rahul
Food served is good in quality and quantity , but the staff was not customer service oriented and arrogant. It is self service restaurant.price is bit higher.

Hands down the best idly ( ghee idly) in Vijayawada..and maybe even India :)<br/><br/>Their filter coffee is also very delicious and true South Indian style.<br/><br/>pandareviewz.com

Yes I would say the place has lost its charm. Babai hotel idly is so famous that they even made a movie named babai hotel. But must try place in Vijayawada though place is little expensive

Most talked about and a very old hotel, located in Vijayawada. Babai idly, served with butter is undoubtedly one of the best in the region. Pesarattu upma, dosa and coffee are equally good. This is not very fancy restaurant. Ambience is decent and place is crowded most of the time.

Babai hotel is located at NRP road, Gandhinagar. This legendary hotel started in 1942 by Patruni Sambamurthi. His service and hospitality was so good that people started calling him "babai" affectionately. This legendary place running successfully from past 75 years because of their taste and quality service. This place brought down many famous celebrities like NTR, ANR and SAVITRI. Many famous hotels named an item in their menu as babai idly. Their menu is very limited and to the point. We had idly, Karan dosa and coffee. My favourite item was obviously idly whereas karam dosa was okayish. Ambience was okayish and hardly four to five tables were there.
