Review Shankara Vegis Restaurant - Agra

Mimi
LOVED this place! first of all, it’s very clean and the owner is friendly and speaks excellent english. he makes the food with mineral water, so it’s safe for foreigners looking to avoid stomach issues — we felt great after eating here. we each got the special thali for dinner and it comes with a large portion of food — each of us nearly cleaned our platters it was so good. we had also started with an appetizer that was gone almost as soon as he brought it out. and most excellent of all, there is a great view of the street for people watching — we also saw lots of animals passing by as well. highly recommend — would definitely come back here if i was in delhi again.

The food here is delicious. It is cooked to order with quality fresh ingredients. We had the thali plate which was great value for money and a generous size. We ate on the large rooftop terrace. It was so good we went back again the next night when the owner and namesake of this restaurant came and chatted to us. He was very friendly and welcoming and told us the history of his long established family run business. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for quality authentic Indian food

The food here is prepared when you order, the owner is a bit talkative but surely helpful when you ask him your doubts. He doesn't try to scam you with wrong information. They have multiple levels of dining space. Right on the rooftop you can see a glimpse of the Taj. Not a proper view, but half a view. They do serve beer as well, won't be on the menu. You would have to ask them. The food has a lot of oil or excess sugar in your tea. You should remember to customize your food, let them know. Less sugar, less spice etc The place only offers vegetarian dishes. You can pay here using upi or card. Please ask the owner the standard tuk tuk rates for better understanding.

We came first time for dinner and came back the next day for lunch. Really good food. The owner even adviced us the meals and personalised them for us. I can only recommend !

Lovely restaurant, perfect spot to grab a bite after visiting the Taj. Food was reasonably priced, tasty, good portions and excellent service. The owner was super friendly and we had a great chat.

The owner is so laid back, I came alone to have dinner and we talked the whole time about philosophy, life, and personal development. Such a wholesome place. I originally asked locals for a good place for good food and this is definitely did not disappoint. Had some delicious veg biryani and banana Lassi. If you're hungry near Taj Mahal I'd highly recommend this place!! The only place where I felt so welcome without anyone calling me into their restaurant.

We ordered Dal, the rice cumin, and paratha – everything was delicious. :) They also have a rooftop where you can chill and have a great view of the Taj Mahal. Shankara is a very friendly man, thank you 🙏🏾

We only went here once but we enjoyed it. Clearly labelled options and the food is really tasty. They had vegan naan which is not something we’ve managed to get after spending one month in India. They also serve beer and the rooftop has a view of the Taj.

Awesome food, beautiful presentation. Very friendly owner and accommodating for vegans! They have a rooftop for drinks also but the restaurant downstairs is lovely.

Delicious masala Dahl and paneer mattar; homemade spicy bread pakora and beautifully presented papaya lassi. Rooftop with a very close view to Taj. Lovely owner

I visited two Times. Took lunch as thali. Roti and sabji was fresh and good taste. Rice and dal also with good taste. They have ground floor and roof top. I enjoyed in ground floor itself. Owner was nice person and talks English well. Overall it's good restaurant and can go anytime.

Lovely tittle place! The food was amazing with very good vegetarian options. We came in pretty late so it was only the owner, his son and us. They made us great food, invited us to their rooftop (Taj Mahal View) and had a great talk with us. Had some tips for us how to navigate Agra and India as a hole. Tuktuks seem to have trouble finding this place though. You should take this into account so they don’t bring you somewhere else.

Friendly staff, delicious traditional indian food and western food for those who can't handle spices very well. Good price and great location to go for lunch after visiting Taj Mahal

Food is very good and you definitely won’t get sick. A place where you can relax with aircon, enjoy your food and also have a good chat with the owner. The brothers / owners are one of the kindest people we have met. Update: After our classic tour in Rajasthan, we have to say this restaurant has the most delicious food we came across.

Fresh food, fair prices, friendly staff and great location close to Taj Mahal. You can order dishes with no spice in case you have a more western palate. Recommended!

Do not believe those online blogs suggesting this place profusely. Yes, it offers you the sight of Taj, rest all is terrible. Food was tasteless, to reach rooftop you had to climb very very steep stairs. Food came very late cuz of this, so if you have tight itinerary dont go here and waste your time. Food came late and then it was so bad. Not a single thing tasted good. I dont think I will recommend this place.

A very small and cramped place but serves tasty food. The staff is very welcoming and speak in an accent to please the foreigners who frequent this place I guess 😅. We had Spaghetti and Chow Mein. Spaghetti was a bit disappointing with too much of tomato sauce . Chow Mein was quite tasty. Was bowled over by the service !

Many of friends visited this place during their trips to Agra and they also suggested me to try this nice place with some really good dishes. I would also recommend you to try their thali and tea if you are here. The place got different vibe

We had lunch here. Service - very good. Clean. Calm atmosphere though near Taj. You have to be on the rooftop. Fantastic view of Taj. Thali was really good.

The mainly pedestrian streets to the south of the Taj Mahal leaves luxury far behind. Given that most people only stay one night in Agra, I thought it would be fine. Needless to say the extremely basic accommodation is... extremely basic. Similarly the food options around the West Gate entrance (the East Gate is a nicer area apparently) are limited and known more for the rooftops that give a very overstated view of the Taj Mahal than the flavours themselves.
