Review Tg's-the Oriental Grill - Ahmedabad

dhiraj verma
It was quite a different experience I must say. Although it didn't live up to my expectations, Positives: 1. The ambience was eye catching. 2. The food was very authentic and awesome. 3. Staff has good knowledge of each item. They were also non-reluctant to modify even Set Menu meal items. 4. Choco Ganache is a must try dessert. 5. Main course items are lip smacking. Negatives: 1. They didn't had a receptionist outside TG's, we kept searching on the empty desk and no one showed up till 10 mins. 2. I reserved the table for 9:45pm and got the table at 10:15pm (even when the tables were available but weren't cleaned on time) with no waiting area outside the restaurant which was crowded. 3. No internal communication, We ordered Chicken but received Lamb. 4. 95% of Beverages were out of stock, only one item was available and that too tasted awful.

Loved every minute there! Polite and courteous staff, great menu. Live cooking station with chef cooking right in front of us, just as we want it, so impressed. Everything was great. The place got quite busy too

Best oriental restaurant in Ahmedabad hands down! Again, had a great experience dining with them. Chef Ritik did a great job on the grill! Miso black cod and their signature fried rice were made perfectly by the Chef. He gave us details of the ingredients and where they were sourced from. It was a good experience seeing the food made in front of us. New menu is available which has some old favourites along with some new additions like pizza with Tuna Sashimi and soft shell crab sushi. Highly recommend it for dim sums, sushi and their teppanyaki grill dishes. Thank you for hosting us again!

Quite an experience dining here. We chose to reserve the place for my MILs birthday. Right from the booking we were in good hands, we were advised to come earlier than we had planned so we could enjoy the whole experience. I must say the best part was watching the cooking happen right in front of you, it was my first experience, and I really enjoyed it. We took the 7 courses set meal, every course was carefully curated and a delight Starting with a chicken egg drop soup Followed be some sushi and on and on. We ended with baked alaska and my oh my was it good! I’m not much of a dessert person, but this had me sold, was tempted to steal some from my husband’s plate as well. The place is ofcourse in Hyatt and the service is excellent, they took care of our allergies as well. Definitely a place to visit on a special occasion.

Great experience in terms of service and taste. Ambiance could be improved. We tried the sushi, dimsums and the set menu. All dishes were great. This is the only place in Ahmedabad with the teppenyaki grill concept so definitely worth a try for the experience.

Amazing food. Quantity quite less as compared to rates. Live food served by Chef and prepared in front of us. Overall nice place to visit.

After China House (in Hyatt, Ashram Road) and Nanjing (in CG Square Mall, CG Road) has closed down, this is one of the last places standing in Ahmedabad where one can enjoy authentic Oriental cuisine. I'll recommend their seven course meal which is prepared live in front of you. The food and the experience is one of its kind.

I can clearly say, this restaurant has become my favourite oriental restaurant in Ahmedabad. Located at Hyatt Vastrapur, this restaurant offers a unique concept of cooking the entire food in front of you. I started my order with Veg burnt garlic clear soup. Though the soup looks quite simple, it is power-packed with flavours. This soup is definitely a must order. Further I ordered a Bao and Dumdum which were also fantastic. Before the main course they also serve a palate cleanser. For main course, I ordered a chicken noodle and a gravy. The chef was courteous to ask my vegetable and sauce preference. The dish turned out to be delicious !! Overall its a complete gastronomic treat !! Loved it !! Overall rating: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Taste:5/5 Value for Money: 5/5

We had seven course meal and the portion was as good as an unlimited buffet. Main course was made live in front of us The chef made sure to make our rice and noodles medium spicy after understanding our taste preference. Cherry on the top was nougat caramel Alaska cake with perfect crunch of butterscotch caramel 👌👌

Had been here few days back for the dinner and it was a wonderful experience to have such kind of meal in ahmedabad. Had tasted the authentic oriental food here for the first time and it is damnn good...they are having teppanyaki griddle for each and every table so you can enjoy live cooking infront of you.. Had opted out for seven course set meal.. Started with burnt garlic veg clear soup..mild soup with distinct flavour of garlic and it was nice. In started we had carrot ginger chilli bean dimsum...and it was one of the finest dimsum i ve ever had... Then came the crispy veg tempura roll...this was amazing...plated beautifully and tasted heavenly... Before moving towards to main course they gave amuse bouche..a palate cleanser made of something like yogurt sphere ... Just pops in your mouth..it was great. In mains they served five treasure vegetables with garlic sauce and sticky fried rice with veggies.. Then cmee the desert..caramel alaska cake with warm chocolate ganache...it was mind blowing..one of the finest desert i have had in recent times... We tried some mocktails out of which frozen strawberry and grapes and orchid sour were worth to try... Overall had enjoyed a lot and totally impressed with the food, ambiance, service and all....

Making good food is not only reason for having repeat customers.......... you lost one today .. just because accepting an order first for delivery and after 45minutes then canceling it yourself without any reason is not justified at all .am sorry that a reputed brand like yours and having such services ....it’s totally not acceptable. sorry guys for such Unprofessional service

This place is the best for all those who love oriental good! The best part is the chef asks you how you like your food and each dish you order is made to your preference!
Ambience- 5
Staff- 5
Food- 5
Their dimsums are heavenly! And their condiments (the chilli oil and chilli garlic chutney) are the best to go with the dimsums!
This place can be the perfect for a celebration or a date or even for days when you want comfort food! It is an absolute go to for oriental lovers!

One of the restaurants inside the Hyatt, The Oriental Grill specialises in South East Asian cuisine - Dim Sums, Sushis, Crabs you name it! Tried the Crab California, Sushi and Noodles. Everything was pitch perfect in taste and presentation. There's a live grill station where everything you order is cooked right in front of you! And I took the chance to cook for myself as well! Lovely visit!

The best and authentic oriental food in town. The live grill is a different experience alltogether along with the crazy Hyatt experience

Excellent food and excellent service!! This is a must place for foodies and oriental cuisine lovers!! Ambience and live grill add to the wonderful experience.. the vegetarian sushi platter and the edamame and water chestnut dim sum is a must try. The caramel nougat Alaska cake with chocolate ganache is also fantastic! The service was also prompt and customer-friendly. Overall, it was a wonderful experience with lip-smacking food!!

A must visit place for Oriental cuisine. The ambiance and the environment is good with superb aroma of grilled food. There are course meals on offer which you may choose. Food is prepared in front of you and that is an experience in itself. Must try are sushi, frozen strawberry, chocolate ganache and chicken rice.

Highlight is service and courteous staff.

It was absolutely a great place! The food and service was on point! And our celebration was amplified with TG’s celebratory cake for our anniversary, and there were other wonderful couples who shared and celebrated the grill table space with us. We couldn’t have asked for more.

Love the experience to cook your own food

Extra ordinary taste and amazing sushi DIMSUM and amazing burnt icecream on pineapple. Not mention the super services of RAVI and chef KARTIK.

Even if the whole restaurant was empty, I was told to wait for half an hour just to keep up with the slot system. I’ve been a regular customer at TG’s and my billing is worth more than 50k. The staff was not rude but also not helpful. For a regular spender at this place, I’m quite disappointed.

I absolutely love this place and am a regular visitor too. The palette cleansers are refreshing. The kakiage never disappoints with the sweet crunchy veggies. And the dim sums offered are a must , with the butter bean dim sum being my favourite. The veg tempura rolls and chilli garlic noodle served are flavourful and authentic .

I think this is the best among those offering this cuisine in Ahmedabad . .
However it is expensive
Chandni Patel Ravani
On arrival at the restaurant we were ‘enlightened with the information’ that they have a slot system and they take bookings only those slots ! Had this information been posted on the website/ Zomato/ elsewhere , my husband and I could have saved 45 mins of getting to this property thereby leaving our 1 year old baby at home AND that too for our anniversary dinner ! Inconvenience caused due to lack of such an important information leaves a very bad impression for someone visiting the place for the first time AND hence the last time ...

Having a 4.9 rated restaurant right in your hotel in a blessing in disguise ... for those who like fast service (i am a mumbaikar) , you may feel the pace to be slow , but its worth the wait.. went for the 7 course Veg tasting menu which i feel is a better way to get a taste of many dishes when you are just a couple , mind blowing food , went into the likes of Pa Pa Ya and Jia for us mumbaikars... best part is you can repeat any of the courses you wish except when you ask for a dish off the stated menu which for us we switched for the alaska cake instead if the banana based dessert... definitely worth a try when in Ahmedabad... for the jain peeps , they do serve a lot of jain options ... and also looking the menu , must be a non veg heaven too

Had an amazing time . It was fun to watch our chefs preparing the food in front of us. The food was really awesome and the credit goes to CHEF LANCHUI and CHEF KARTIK, who with their amazing skill made our dine out so worderful and a memorable one.

We came a little late and as they were preparing, it took quite a while for us to start and since our chefs were so friendly and kind, we were enjoying and lost track of time (we didn't know it was time for them to end their day, SORRY FOR THAT). So seems some staffs were unhappy and didn't even smile back as we leave. That's the only drawback.
Overall perfect.
Thanks #chefLanchui
Thanks #chefKartik
Thanks Lawma
Thanks #TG's team ...

Want for dinner here. I must say that the food was excellent in terms of taste. One must try non-vegetarian #Dim_sum. It was first time I was in this restaurant. Service was extremely nicer than what I expected. Love to visit again..

TG's - The Oriental Grill is casual dining In-house restaurant of Hyatt Ahmedabad which serves Chinese, Japanese and Oriental cuisine along with Bao, Dimsums, Sushi, Signature Drinks and Desserts.

TG's - The Oriental Grill is located at First Floor, Hyatt Ahmedabad, Plot 216, Town Plan Scheme 1, Near Vastrapur Lake, Vastrapur, Ahmedabad. Excellent service, top quality food. Beautifully made 😋😋😋

I like their idea of live counters which makes it gourmet! However portion sizes are way too small, not even enough for one person at times! Also service is very slow so if you wish to go for mains straight, you will have to wait for way too long!

The Restaurant only allows people through Reservation. Please make sure you make reservations before you go to avoid any disappointment. The Food here is authentic Oriental and pampers your taste buds to the maximum. The servings are limited so you will need to order more but the overall food is great. The best part though is that there is a Grill attached to every table and the main course is cooked right on you table to your liking. You can tell the chefs the amount of spices you want to put or the ingredients you want more or less. The Chef will also allow you to try your hand if you ask. Over all an amazing experience. Worth the wait after the reservation.

The chef was like a sculptorer. - he was a delight and the food was great and cooked to perfection Like Mozart’ music

I visited TG’s 2 days back and it was a wonderful experience. The live grill is something that you don’t find in Ahmedabad. The Noodles, Thai curry and Tempura Rolls were amazing. The ambience is very nice and the staff is also very friendly. They take quite some time to serve the food but its worth the wait.

Good Ambience...very comfortable !!

Food:
Ordered all Dumplings, which are served without any Sauce and Chef doesn't feel good when asked why they don't serve !!

Sashimi Sushi Platter - terrible, I left after trying each. Looked stale and pathetic. Not worth ordering.

Teppanyaki was good, got for it.

Don't order Guavarita, too spicy for a drink !!

We visited this place for lunch on a week day (Wednesday 14th August) and found the place virtually empty. Actually we were a bit late. We sat near the Teppan Yaki open kitchen to watch the junior chef cook our order. We ordered one each of all non -veg dimsums, a portion of Thai prawns in a curry form and fried noodles. All the selections turned out to be quite good and the chef could caliberated the spices to our requirement. The chef and the serving staff were very polite and helpful. I remember their names as Lawma from Manipur and Naman from Varanasi. Unfortunately I can't remember the chef's name. The food tasted excellent and we were quite content.

However, the reasons I gave this rating of 4 stars are as follows.

1. The Prawns in the curry were not king size but a little smaller than that.

2. The curry was supposed to contain water chestnuts, but they were missing. When asked, the chef politely replied that they were not available in Ahmedabad. I am sure the hotel of this repute could have stocked up the water chestnuts. And of course, the chef should have told us upfront if they were not available as chestnuts are essential ingredient in Thai food, especially curries.

3. All over the world, it is customary to provide complementary rice as a side dish with all Thai curries. Only second portion, if asked, is charged. I could not find Thai rice and had to order expensive Japanese sticky rice. Management should make a note of it.

But for these small irritants, the experience was quite pleasant.

Absolute favorite place to eat in Ahmedabad.
The location is classy, the live cooking enjoyable especially due to the fun and welcoming cooks, the food is amazing thanks to the latters’ talent!
Their banoffee pie is out of this world.

What a meal!!!! What a restaurant!!!! What excellent service!!!!
Today we realized why TGs is so good. It's so simple but so difficult to execute: Attention to detail.
Loved the sticky fried rice, shredded chicken, lamb shoulder, potato tornado and the California crab roll.
Great flair and conversation with Chef Aayush.
He is really great at the grill
Outstanding service by Jaspreet, Pemba, Lawma and Jitendra.
Excellent beverages by Shubham and excellent hosting by Mary.
Mr Lakhan : the restaurant manager is always ready to help out.
Definitely visiting again.
One of my favorite place in Ahmedabad for Sushi. Totally love their wide menu options. Had a really great time, trying my hand on the grill too. Super friendly staff.
Ambience is just perfect since you've a grill for every table.. Perfect place to take your business associates. Bonus points for their presentation. Not to forget their deserts and drinks are equally good.
Ekta Khetan
It is the Ahmedabad’ flagship grill wherein you can enjoy the experience of live grill and oriental flavours.

There is an option for all- vegetarian and non vegetarian. The place offers an exquisite menu and is a great place to host your friends/ business colleagues/ partners.

Reservation is a must. If you are in Ahemdabad and have a flair for an elaborate Oriental spread, do savor this.

If you are vegetarian vary of non veg also cooked at the place, you can request your sever to get the wok cleaned for you. And while you enjoy your meal, do not forget to relish their chamomile tea!

Good was great but they charged the bill twice. Even though money got deducted from my acc they asked me to pay again for their technical error.

Ambiance: The atmosphere is amazing. You can actually view the chef preparing your food.

Cleanliness: Upto the mark

Service: The staff is amazing and will help you to understand the Menu. Polite and patience is the key

Food: The taste and presentation is amazing. We ordered chicken garlic soup, tempura shrimp sushi, bao, Srilankan pork belly, salmon steak and rice and noodles. And for the desert we ordered Alaska. Everything tasted good.

The overall experience was amazing on my Birthday.

best teppan yaki resturant... first of all I am surprised we have teppan style dinning here in ahmemdad Gujarat of all the places... second no matter how many time I have been there they served some of the best sushi veg and non veg both... there menu has some of the unique dishes. I have been there many time even with my in laws who do not prefer Japanese cuisine... also have visted the resturant many times. it's worth it.

Amazing food. 5 on 5
Ordered the 7 course meal. Every bite was delicious. Enjoyed the food a lot

Would be great if they give wooden chopsticks instead of plastic ones.

This place was on my list for a very long time and finally visited it for Sunday dinner. They have options between the preset course meal and the A-la carte. I decided to go for the latter.
Ambience- Seating is comfortable. There is a live grill for every table where you can watch the food being made live. Interesting, no!? 😎
Service- The staff is very courteous and even on a Sunday, service was relatively quick. On the live grill, we had Chef Brieshwar to serve us some delicious food.
Food-
Burnt Garlic Veg Clear Soup-
It had a nice, strong taste which was appealing to the taste buds. (4/5)
Dimsums-
Chilli Garlic
Corn and water chestnut
It was Ok. Nothing special. (2.5/5)
Tempura Rolls- The taste was good but the sushi was a little hard to chew. (3/5)
Veg. Bao in Barbeque Sauce- This was heavenly😇 Had to order another one. (5/5) 🤤
After this, we were given a muse bouche( palate changer). It was Raspberry flavored and tasted really good.
For the main course, we had-
Chilli garlic noodles- They were perfectly cooked and spiced. Loved it!! (5/5)
Pepper Garlic Sauce Veggies- The sauce was very flavourful and complemented well with the noodles. (4/5)
Desserts-
Burnt Ice cream (chef's suggestion) -
I've never really had something so different. It was fusion but, so good. Soft pineapple base and chewy ice cream with sesame, almonds and caramel. Must try. (4.5/5)
Nougat Alaska with Chocolate Ganache-
This was simply the showstopper of the evening. Try it to believe me! 😘😋(5/5)
The prices are a tad expensive but it surely wouldn't burn a hole in your pocket
Overall, I had a good experience and if you want to try some delicious Oriental food, this is the place to go! 👍

Hyatt is a brand in itself. But it was a normal food experience not an amazing one. Food was decent enough....combined with amazing ambience. Overall better options available in buffet.

I would rate this as the best restaurant in ahmedabad - the dim sums are exquisite, the spicy sauces brilliant, the caramel alaska and mille fuei brilliant - the tempura roll was the only meh item

One of the best and my current favourite restaurant in Ahmedabad beating the China House at the regency hands down. The tempura rolls were a bit underwhelming but superb momos which you can order individually and the exquisite Korean rice cake more then make up. The desserts are exquisite particularly the caramel Alaska....

What better compliment can you give to a restaurant than to eat two meals there in a single day. Exquisitely created dishes on a live counter, great service and a friendly and bright ambience... thank you #hyattahmedabad #TGs for a wonderful, wonderful food experience. Special mentions: Kartik for the love with which he cooks the food and Subham for helping in making the right food choices!

This place amuse me on every visit. Well behaved staff, pretty ambience and delicious as well as beautifully presented food.
The menu is handpicked which is not unnecessarily stuffed nor too limited for choices.
The only challenge here is this place remains usually full even on weekdays, so prior booking is mandatory. Well that is another reason to vouch for the food.
The grill next to every table will definitely give you a spark.
Must try the sushi, dimsums, garlic chips (on request) and the caramel Alaska cake.

Best of all it's not heavy on your pocket too.
This place is not to be missed.

Hyatt, as a brand , have lot of restaurants across India but i have come across only few whcih server genuine asian food including sushi. This was quite enough motivation to book this place for dinner . The icing on the cake was the 50% off that was being run on thursdays and fridays in the month of april by the restaurant which attracted loads of crowd to the place. We had melange of sushi and dimsums to start with followed by some authentic main course and appealing desserts.

Vegetable bao :- Just a perfect preparation of bao that i have had in very long time. Not the biggest fan of bbq sauce but this was a steal for the price.

Fat Boy roll :- One from the sushi family, which is just simply curated for indian palate and trust me when i say. Just perfection for an indian sushi.

There were few more items ordered like corn edamame dimsum and mushroom sushi which were on par with the authentic way of preparation.

Do give it a try.

Damages : 2500 for 4 people

Ambiance 5/5

Service 5/5

Food 4.5/5

I'm a hardcore non veg lover and being in the state of Gujarat, you're always looking for good non vegetarian places. Thankfully, TG comes to the rescue. The place serves amazing Japanese cuisine. This was my first time with Japanese food. We had a 5 course meal which included chicken soup as a starter, two small prawn thingy, fried rice, a chicken dish and chocolate ice cream with brownie. We also ordered salmon fish and ebi cracker sushi separately.

The best experience was the live grill.
Pocket pinch for two: Rs 2500

This is first time I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

So glad that Ahmedabad has such place of an International standards. Finally I have a place that I can suggest to the people for very special occasions. Surprisingly, the menu is not as denting on pocket as one would expect in five-star + concept restaurant. Moreover, they have set five, seven and nine course menu for who like to go easy on ordering. A grill next to every table and chef preparing our food as per our request was definitely an experience of lifetime. Tastewise everything was just perfect. I had the best thai curry of my life here. Dim sums, shushi and bao are some of their specialities

It is one of the best restaurant in town! I love the food! It is outstanding! They are celebrating anniversary month and they select few tables whom they treat absolutely free!! To my surprise when the bill came it was 1 rupee per person so total 5 rupees. Yes I was the lucky one! I do go there regularly and if u have not been there please do go!!! 😀

Had been waiting for long to visit this place and finally I DID .
Here's what I think about the FOOD :

Frozen Strawberry and grapes🍓🍇 is a pure glass of joy !🍷
LOVED it so much and priced at just 98 rupees it's one of the most REFRESHING fulfilling slushy drinks I have had in my life !

GUAVARITA is fantastic drink with definite hints of SPICYNESS which somehow complimented the GUAVA juice perfectly. The rim was lined with salt and pepper that lent an EXTRA EDGE to every sip of the drink ! .
🍸🍹

Price 138/-
Taste -5/5

CRISPY VEG TEMPURA ROLL - Crisp rice covering topped with a light tangy sauce and filled with aged pepper, onion , baby corn , carrot tomato - onion salsa and spicy aioli.

🍱

FAT BOY - Crispy rice covering topped with crunchy spinach leaves , shredded beet , spicy cream cheese and filled with mushroom .

Both of them are quite unique and new to the Ahmedabad palate. I personally liked the Crispy Tempura roll more ! A delight ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Chef's special steamed VEGETABLE BAO(3) in Barbeque sauce is recommended ! The soft pillowy bao with spicy tangy stuffing tasted really good

Price - 90ish each

DIMSUMS (3)filled with Chilli garlic butter , bean har gow , ginger garlic chilli were quite small and tasted okay.

The desserts are quite delicious but I felt the quantity wasn't value for money.

The ALASKA cake served with chilled chocolate sauce was a decadent indulgence . The caramel crunch elevated the whole dish.

The BANOFFEE PIE was another beautifully presented dish . Try this if you re bored of chocolate!

The BURNT ICE CREAM was unexpectedly something very different. The quantity will leave you begging for more , but the taste is unique and delicious. Leave it for a minute before eating it to get the maximum crunch .

2nd visit
Had noodles in black bean sauce with veggies and mushroom. Lipsmacking taste . Also tried another raw apple based drink which was good. Crispy corn tempura tastes good but the quantity is too small for it's price .

They have preset courses (5 , 7 or 9 course) veg and non veg menus and Ala carte too.
Will cost you around 800- 900 per person if you eat as much as above.

The staff is polite and respectful. The ambience is pretty and well organized. Perfect for groups of 4-6 . Can work a little on the cleanliness especially when you change the tables from one group to the next

Overall a MUST VISIT KINDA PLACE 💕💕

4.5

Was planning to visit this place from months and finally i did it,

Guavarita and Frozen Strawberry & Grapes is what o tried in beverages and loved both the items, while Guavarita was on a bit spicy note Frozen Strawberry and Grapes at the rate of 98/- INR is one of the best items at TG's.

Veg Burnt Garlic Soup - Mix Veg with a flavour of Garlic, perfectly made and served, THE BEST VEG SOUP I HAVE EVER HAD.

Caramel Alaska cake - again hands down the impressive dessert, served with cold Chocolate syrup instead of hot.

Didnt like the Thai curry and steaky rice as i am not a fan of Thai food.

Entire month of April : Wed, Thurs, Fri - 50% off on entire menu.
I have been here twice. Both the times it has been an amazing experience.

First was on a Sunday for the Hibachi grill buffet! We started with a simple soup, followed by some dimsums and their Fatboy Sushi roll

The beauty of the menu is the small portions which allows you to try so many new things. The prawn dimsum and the mushroom bao (cleverly mushroom shaped) are things that stick to the mind.

The buffet is a wonderful experience especially if you take pride in your own recipes and taste. I was full by the third bowl but still felt I wanted more.

The Hibachi grill is very well maintained and even though I'm a vegetarian I was comfortable the the way it was washed over between grills.

The second time we did an a la carte order, which did not disappoint is either. The sticky rice was delicious and their teppanyaki mushroom (button & shitake) was mind boggling

They also served a litchi based amuse bouche which was delightfully refreshing!

The service is so personalised yet doesn't come in the way of your food and conversations. There was always a refill, a service and a smile!

All in all a wonderful experience both times!
