Visited this Old Cafe in Prayagraj, a place known for its history as a famous and established coffee house since 1975. The cafe's charm lies in its vintage feel and the sense of tradition it carries. However, the taste of their Indian filter coffee was average and didn't quite match up to the hype. While the cafe's legacy is certainly noteworthy, I felt that its reputation might have exceeded the actual experience. If you're a fan of history and nostalgia, it's worth a visit, but do keep in mind that the coffee might not live up to the lofty expectations.
I had ordered butter masala dosa, which I had in the Indian coffee house, Connaught place branch and since then I have become its fan. Butter masala dosa at the Prayagraj branch cost me around 170 rupees which was more expensive than Connaught place. Also, they charged an extra refill of sambhar or coconut chutney. Beside dosa, I didn't like the sambhar as it was missing its key ingredients and was watery. Butter masala dosa's taste was similar to that I had in Connaught place, but the sambhar and coconut chutney wasn't up to the mark. Also I had told the manager, that Indian Coffee House doesn't charge extra for refills in Connaught place, so he didn't charge for the coconut chutney. I appreciated this noble gesture.
Also IHC has a heritage of serving authentic Indian food through generations at minimal cost. It's run by a cooperative society. The way of serving, the building, the fan, the uniform of the waiter hasn't changed. Elderly people often love to visit this place, as you'll notice here, maybe that reminds them of their good old days and the memories that they shared here.
Do visit for butter masala dosa.
When you feel like visiting somewhere back in time but authentic and off the charts, this is the place. The coffee was good, the dosa too, but the only thing that didn't go with the place was the cleanliness. Still Worth visiting.
One of the most important historical coffee house still existing in prayagraj with its traditional ambience and facilities and staffs in the dress as designed by the english period everyone should visit atleast once... will definitely have a nice experience...
Rustic! That's one word to describe it. Through the hustle of the city, the changes around, this place has managed to keep it's timeless rustic charm intact. The uniforms of the wait-staff, the menu, the cutlery, everything just throws you back in the 80s and the 90s, and it's just beautiful.
The quality of food has deteriorated over the time, and the prices have gone significantly up, but it's still good enough and very very affordable. Everyone should give this place a visit.
Prayagraj Famous and Old Coffee House in 1975. Hot coffee starts from 40 only with a good Taste
Very old set-up and remains sam. Gives a nostalgic feeling. I tried mutton dosa , egg dosa. Taste is ok. There are enough tables so no need to wait. Service is good.
Indian coffee house cafe is used like a landmark here in allahabad/prayagraj which makes it popular and prominent. I had their special coffee and a grilled veg sandwich. Maybe you can try something else like scrambled eggs or other toasts to experience better. Although the food was okay, this place gives you the vibes of those places where friends can hangout and chill for a long time. The staff was really well behaved and dressed up nicely. I am going to visit it again whenever in Prayagraj.
It's very old restaurant, i have visited since 1994. No change, it's a nostalgic feeling. The menu is good, food quality is very good. I had mutton dosa, it's not like in south India, but at this place it's very good. Best thing is cost it's moderate. Coffee was also not comparable with south India, but at this place it's okay, but price seems little bit more
Indian Coffee House, Prayagraj is a charming and historic restaurant that is well worth a visit. The architecture is reminiscent of the British Era, and the serving staff is friendly and attentive. The food is authentic and delicious, and the prices are reasonable.
I highly recommend the sandwiches and coffee, some of the best I've ever had. The paneer pakoda is also excellent, and again the coffee is a perfect way to end a meal.
If you're looking for a unique and memorable dining experience, I highly recommend Indian Coffee House, Prayagraj. You won't be disappointed.
