Review Voltaire - Bardez

Doling out authentic goan food, @voltairegoa should be on your must-eat-at list. It is on ours for sure. Do try their Seafood Thali that has the freshest catch of the day and is served with Solkadi and fish fry and more. And, vegetarians don't be disappointed, their veg dishes are equally yum. All the curries and dishes are dished out using authentic Konkani masalas and have old Goan charm written all over it. We had their 1) Fish thali @250: Sungtanchi Udhamethi, visonache posth, Tisryanche Dangar, cutlet, kismor, chitki mitki Bhaji, Xit, Sol kadi, Papad, Pickle, Salad, Tavsali. 2) Veg thali @180: Varan, Bhajin [banana fry], Chitki mitki bhaji, Sol kadi, Salad, Papad, Pickle, Xit, Tavsali. The food here is so fingerlicking good that you will remember the taste for years to come.

This Authentic Goan Restaurant facing the Mandovi river, is an epitome of Goan facade, it's feel, culture and cuisine all packed into a concoction that leaves you spellbound. Sangam, the proprietor is a wonderful host with a warm and pleasant personality. He made us feel at home, personally took care of our seating, helped us place our orders and even designed a unique cocktail (Chanchal chedu) especially for us, which was truly amazing. Must try! The thali was a deal breaker, absolutely packed with authentic Goan flavors, served to us exactly the way our grandparents did, on a banana leaf. Brought back some fond memories. The items complimented each other and were cooked to perfection. By the time we were done, it was difficult to stand with our tummies filled so we sat there to absorb some more of the vibrant aura that the place emits. A truly 5 star experience. Highly recommended for an Authentic Goan experience.

Goa's best Saraswat food delicacies. Well situated at the banks of river Mandovi. Good food and excellent service. Parking available on the road. Ambience very goan landlord styles home.

To start with the place looks beautiful with breathtaking view. One feels nice just sitting and spending time here. Helpful staff, the food is good and is served neatly on time. But the most impressive is the cost, it serves fine done food and an extremely reasonable price. A sure shot hit. One must spend an afternoon here. Highly recommended.

Lovely place by the riverside in verem. Parking is an issue but once U get inside, the light toned down ambience gives U a feel of being in the old Goan days. The Goan cuisine is to go after. Specially the daangars and fish fried as well as curry with rice. The Cafreal is also awesome. They have a balcony sitting where one can have a nice family dinner with the breeze blowing. Again the upper floor allows one to entertain as well as have a business meal without interruptions. The place is bustling on weekend evenings but the spacing between tables allows good privacy. Totally value for money and a definite repeat visit.

Excellent ambience. Good authentic goan foods. Nice scenic view ... Old infrastructure nicely designed .. odd location .. need own vehicle to reach ... Generally a good hangout for rich class Goans.. Nice place to enjoy drink with good food

Awesome place for lunch and dinner in Reis Magos. Old Portuguese house converted into a Restaurant. Goan cuisine. During my last visited we ordered Prawns Dhangar, Stuffed Mackerels, Chicken in bird nest ( I think that's what they call it ), Chicken Cafreal with Goan bread and Prawn Curry with Rice accompanied by Fried Fish and Kokum mocktails to quench the thirst. We were 3 of us and were so full we didn't order dessert this time. Loved the ambience, reasonable price, excellent service and friendly host.

A nice old Portuguese ear villa converted into a restaurant. The first floor offers a June view of the mandovi. Good food to go with the ambience. Live music would have been great.

Voltaire, an old house converted to a restaurant. This is an authentic Goan cuisine place. They do serve dishes which are not categorized into goan cuisine. This place is located quite near to the reis magos fort. Located on the quiet and peaceful roads of nerul. Happened to be here for lunch. They a huge area for lunches/dinner. There is a beautiful veranda right outside to sit and enjoy the delicacies. We sat on the first floor to get the view of the mandovi river. The interiors are vintage with wooden floorings and furniture. This place introduced me to authentic goan cuisine and i loved every bit of it. Few checks Food - vegetarian and non vegetarian Alcohol - Yes Service – Pretty decent Cost – pretty reasonable Seating – huge groups Staff – trained and friendly Some dishes to try: Goan chicken soup – It had macaroni, boiled chicken cubes and some veggies to go in it. Loved the flavors Prawns Dangar – These are mouth watering savory cutlets with minced prawns Potato and Eggplant foddi – These are marinated slices of eggplant and potato Bharillo Bangda – This dish is basically a stuffed mackerel fish, with stuffing of garlic and other spices. I found garlic stuffing a bit over powering. But the fish was pretty delicious and cooked to perfection Udamethi – It is a delicious curry prepared by grinding roasted coconut and other spices. It goes pretty well with the vada (wheat based bread) Alle Belle – It a dessert of pancakes, coconut and jaggery. Coconut and jaggery is mixed together and stuffed inside the pancake. It was simply delicious.

Ten of us had dinner at this restaurant on a Saturday, surprisingly the place was not crowded - which suited us. We stuck to their signature dishes, they were all good - chicken cafreal rolls, prawn dangar and fodi for starters; and prawn udamethi, chicken xacuti and rawa fried chonak fish for mains. the cafreal rolls and xacuti were outstanding. For dessert we tried the caramel pudding which was pretty good. Service was reasonably fast., Santosh our server was friendly and knowledgeable. But the bar was a bit of a let down as some of the popular whiskies were out of stock.

An excellent place hidden away to spend qualitative time either alone or with family and friends which offers tasty and sumptuous dining experience.

Went there for a light dinner. The place looked like an old Portuguese house from the inside. It offers a crazy view from the top floor of the river. Like the sitting arrangements.<br/><br/>Ordered chicken spring rolls and stuffed mushrooms. I must say that I loved the idea of Goan chicken stuffing for the spring rolls and was not too oily and very crispy and fresh. The stuffed mushrooms was perfectly cooked, cheesy and the sause went very well with it.

Voltaire was once known for their good service. But recently experienced the worst! We had reached the restaurant at around 1pm. Ordered chicken in bird's nest which we were told is not available so we opted for chonak rava fry which had 3 small pieces of chonak which was average. After which the waiter hardly even visited our table. We ourselves had to call him out asking him to take our next order. Looking at the service we ordered 2 dishes at the same time(starter and main course) which were Cafreal Spring Rolls and Chicken Biryani. We waited to receive our order after waiting for around 45mins after which we finally called out the waiter who was busy at some other table.<br/>(P.S. There was just a single waiter handling 5 tables at the same time.)<br/>When inquired we were told that he would check and bring our order. When the waiter came he told us that biryani is ready but cafreal rolls will take another half n hour and asked us whether we are ready to wait or cancel the order for spring rolls. We had almost lost our patience till then so cancelled the order and told him to get only the biryani. The biryani was not upto the mark at all. The waiter didn't even get the raita unless we asked for it which again took another 5 mins. It was 3 pm by then. Very poor service team Voltaire. We literally wasted 2 hours at your restaurant by having just 2 dishes! Hope you guys work towards this and improve your service.

Voltaire basically means an easy arm chair which is even today seen in some old heritage Goan houses. This restaurant also has some vintage ambience as is name suggests. It is located in the north, few meters from reis magos fort. The food is quite good. For the desserts, serradura here is a must try. On the first floor, one can get a good view of river mandovi.

This is a gem of a restaurant hidden away in a quaint little village called Verem and serves awesome Saraswat cuisine. Goan seafood is often portrayed as the Catholic cuisine to the uninitiated, but in reality, there are two different cuisines in Goa - the Hindu and the Catholic ones and my favourite by a huge margin is the Hindu cuisine. The ambience is unique as it is understated, set in a picturesque house with an old world charm. It is unfortunately not very accessible unless you have a vehicle at your command. Not an issue for the local, but could be challenging for the traveller<br/><br/>The food is beyond awesome, the portions huge. Can be a bit pricey, but it is most certainly money well spent. I had the fish curry (locally called hooman) with Chonak rawa fry (Giant perch), both flawlessly prepared and a most wonderful traditional preparation called 'sungtache dangar'. Closest I come to describing them in English is as prawn cutlets, but that quite falls short of the wonderful taste, flavor and texture. Another standout is the coconut based solkadi - coconutty, creamy and piquant in the same mouthful, this is one concoction that one can't stop downing one after the other, especially on a sultry afternoon - can be had as a drink, or more traditionally, with rice after a satisfying meal of fish curry and rice. Only been here twice and almost repeated all the dishes both times (chonak - due to a lack of a better alternative and the dangar, that just had to be repeated), had different fish curries both times though - the prawn based once and the mackerel based the other time. The mackerel curry is prepared using teppal - a close cousin of the schezwan pepper. You have to have this curry to understand how versatile this spice is. The huge delectable portions meant that we came out overfed each time, but with food this good... who cares?<br/>This restaurant is the 2nd on my list of best seafood places in Goa. The first? Does not even list on Zomato! Poor Zomato

My colleagues recommended this place and went out for a team Lunch. Although the ambience of this place is beautiful..we were very very disappointed with the food and more importantly the service.<br/>To begin with, when we sat on the table, we just enquired if they serve a fish thali...the steward (whom we found arrogant) said.."this is a specialty restaurant, if you want thali go to Ritz Classic in Panjim". :(<br/>Made us realize that he must be thinking we are tourists and I clarified that we are locals.<br/>His body language and tone of speaking was always as if he was doing a favour.<br/>While taking a order, my colleague who was sitting at the other end, called him to come close...to which he said..."I can hear you...so I need not come...you go ahead and order and I shall note down"<br/>Service was slow to the core...and Everytime one dish used to come on the table at a time (so for 6 main course dishes to be served, the steward came six times in intervals of 10 mins...first rice...then after 10 minutes, the gravy....then after 10 mins another dish...then last came chapati and so on) . On enquiring, instead of apologising for the delay, he was only harping that everything is made fresh here so it will take time. On asking why one dish at a time...he said there is only one cook, so he can make only one dish at a time and since u guys want it hot, I am getting it as and when one dish is ready...By this time it was getting on our nerves...but being a team meeting, all of us were just bearing with the same.<br/>One of my colleague asked him...do you have Roti..to which he replied..." I told u guys earlier that this is a Goan Speciality restaurant...how do u expect Roti to be served".<br/>Except Fish which was very fish and cooked well...all other dishes were average.<br/>I heard that the owners are very passionate about this place. my request...you have an awesome place...but with this kind of service... :(<br/>When the restaurant opened about 3 years back, we had visited and loved this place. Had also visited couple of times again then and there were so many senior people around including the owners ensuring every guest is taken care... however this time...There was no senior person around whom we could talk to...Just two stewards.<br/>Extremely disappointed!!!<br/>

Old House converted into a restaurant. <br/>Voltaire is located by the river Mandovi and is near to Reis Magos fort. And there’s a verandah as well. This is an authentic Goan cuisine restaurant. They serve alcohol as well. Amazing archaic ambience with wooden flooring and furniture. You can enjoy the nice view of mandovi bridge and the river. <br/>Quality of food is good. <br/>We ordered Kishmur, local breads, prawn pickle and dangars.<br/>Highlight for me was Prawn Dangar (Minced Prawn Cutlets) <br/>Rest of the food was average. <br/>Staff - trained and friendly.<br/>I loved everything about this restaurant.<br/>👍🏼👍🏼<br/>
The Food Monster
Set in a Old Goan house with a nice set up with a breathtaking view of the River Mandovi.<br/>Great place for fish.<br/>Wide choice for typical Goan dishes. We ordered rawa fried Chonak, Prawn curry and Rice. Prawn curry quantity was alot more than sufficient for 4 people. Chonak was nice and fresh. Papad came as complimentary. For dessert we had Alle Belle which we relished the most. Service was very fast probably because there were less occupied tables. Overall good place. Very reasonable.

Freindly place overlooking INS Mandovi boat pool. Having a beautilfull view of vastness of river Mandovi adds up to serenity. Old Goan look in the ambience gives it a rich feel. Staff is very welcoming, freindly and knows the dishes well. He even understands our taste and recommends are ask the chef to adjust the dush to our liking. Full marks therefamous for goan cuisine. But we had-<br/>Chicken handi is yummilicius. Butter Chicken and chicken kadhai both good. Chapatis are homestyle and good.<br/>The caramal is perfectly yummmmm!!! Been thete many times. Home delivered many times... Many more to come<br/>

This place has an awesome ambience. It is housed in a Info Portuguese styled house. Interiors are warm and cozy.<br/>The food here is average with not much of variety to choose from. The udameti (type of fish curry) was something I liked here. Chicken cafreal wasn't that great. Recheado masala stuffed in mackerals wasn't upto the mark. Squids butter garlic was a disappointment. Desserts were okay. Service was fast as there were no more tables occupied.<br/>Ambience -5/5<br/>Food - 3/5<br/>Service - 4/5<br/>Value for money - 3/5

A little flying machine showed me this place, been here quite a sometime though she wanted to bring me here for the love regional food, antique and culture. Ambiance is awesome, peaceful. Quality of food is great and there is a regional taste in the entire menu. <br/><br/>If you visit here at night you would love the music, nice view of the mandovi bridge and river does the rest of the job. <br/><br/>A definitely a place to visit with family and an little mature date would bring the good vibes for the Moments spent.

A very good place for a family dinner date and at the same time for a great evening with friends... Amazing snacks and the shark Amot teekh is finger licking good... Not to forget prawns kismoor and dangar... All in all a great experience, ambience and taste wise, everytime I visit this place...<br/>The tag line aptly describes the place - “Drink, Dine and Recline”

A place where you will find one of the best Goan food.<br/>Myself being a Goan, I can say that the food just reflects nothing other than a mother's home cooked food.<br/><br/>Few Suggestions - Try out the Prawns Dangar, Cafreal Spring Roll and the Chonak Rava Fry.<br/><br/>A place, must visit🤩

Excellent service & amazing local authentic Goan Saraswat Cuisine... 10 on 10 on all aspects for this wonderful restaurant.... Definitely recommendable to family & friends....

Let's start with the look of the restaurant... It has got this ancestral house look with a balcony on the ground floor and large windows on the first floor and kind of a backyard ... My pick would be the table on the first floor right next to the window... The view is simple breathtaking.. it overlooks the river Mandovi...<br/><br/>As far as the food is concerned... 'tisryanche dangar' are a a must have... other than that if you are up for some traditional Goan food, both veg and non-veg then this is the place to be at... Stuffed mackerels, prawns pickle, prawns uditmethi, cafreal spring roll et al. And if you are in Goa during Shravan don't forget to taste their authentic Goan veg shravan thali. If you are on a visit to Goa and u haven't visited Voltaire then u have missed on a true Goan food experience.

Super food, super location and amazing set of staff... Birthday parties or any other parties to be organised Voltaire is the place to be....

Serves authentic saraswat cuisine. The ambience is and the view is amazing as well.<br/>Try the dangars and other fish preps. The owner is an guy who would go an extra mile for you and arranges and manages most of your requests.

I have a mixed impression about the food. We had ordered garlic bread, french fries, veg spring rolls and butter garlic prawns.<br/>Starting with what's good.. The spring rolls were pretty tasty. The garlic bread was different and quite tasty, but was little hard and chewy by the time it was delivered. The butter garlic prawns failed to impress a prawn lover like me. Had too much of garlic with very little butter. And french fries had no salt and soggy.

I do not recommend this hotel. Staff and security people behavior was very rude. Hotel management was not so friendly and acted friendly. One of the hotel security misguided my car driver by conveying wrong route and deviated him which made delays for almost hour or so.<br/><br/>Food was not so great. Its not worth it to the price there(too costly for bad food). In fact, the food provided was not hygienic and my infant vomited the moment he ate the food causing food poisoning and dehydration.<br/><br/>Overall it was a bad experience. This is not a family friendly place and I do not recommend this place to dine in.

I just have these 2 pics, which literally gave me a confidence, that this place is going to be one amazing experience. Specially when recommended by a localite, Akhil Parrikar, I had to visit here.<br/>Ambience, as there tag line suggest drink, done, recline.<br/>lovely decor with a matka uaed to decorate the center area surrounded by the reclinning chairs and high chair and some regular tabels.<br/>Goa is flooded with booze, we all know that, but what we need to definitely try is the local beer produce there. we tried Bello and one more which asted like Ura. Bello tasted similar to bira blonde and Ura we all know.<br/>Food<br/>Started with some rish cutlets, some rava fry (chonak, tisrya) surmai masala fry ( a nice thin liquidy layer of chilly powder paste mixed with some other ingredients) we could lick the masala with the local bread, Undo, simply amazing.<br/>Bangda (fish, this needs to develop a palate of taste) it's strong flavours and the pungent smell, u definitely think twice before we order, but this was stuffed bangda with some green chutney and a crisplayer on the top.again simply awesome.<br/>we tried the regular and chicken spring roll, that was okaish. I won't blame it coz this is a purely fish place, rest all should be ignored. we also had some sukat chutney or koshimbir types, couldn't stop licking my fingers till the end. and then came the famous fish curry rice, prawns curry and the basmai rice. I was hoping to try he local rice, but by the time I could think, it was already there. again not a single thing about it to complain. his has a coconut gravy based with some prawns and okra, the curry tasted more like khow suey. Another beauty to add to our meal. Was so Damm full that I could barely walk.<br/>u definitely need to rest/recline for sometime after the meal.<br/>great food, simple wow service, this place deserves a 5+ 🌟 raiting.

Restaurant with Great ambience, vintage homely wooden architecture, great view facing the sea. A must visit for those loving quiet serene surrounding.<br/><br/>We tried the rawa chonak fish and bharlo bangdo (green stuffing, also comes with red stuffing), bit pricey but worth it. (forgot to take pictures)<br/><br/>In the main course, Chicken Cafreal with Une (goan bread), Prawns biryani n Raita.<br/><br/>Desserts- we had Sera Dura- A MUST MUST try..(freshly prepared cream with finely crumbled biscuits and cashew nut powder topping).

Absolutely amazing food, authentic and true to its name. I always make sure I make a visit whenever I'm in goa. Specifically I love the dangar ( prawn cutlets), crab masala, prawn curry, fried surmai. <br/><br/>

Voltaire is one place which doesn’t never ever disappoints you!! <br/>Just old Goa style ambiance with is beautiful in day and night time both!! <br/>Very very friendly staff they will recommend dishes as per your taste! <br/><br/>We were 6 people and our main choice was veg food!! Voltaire serves awesome goan food! <br/><br/>We ate:<br/>Veg Xacuti <br/>Veg Ambadi curry <br/>Veg Pulav <br/>Roti <br/>Sera Dura (Portugal Sweet) - This is highly recommend, it contains coconut whipped cream with layer of crushed marie biscuits!! <br/><br/>I was so hungry and craving for goan food, I forgot to take picture initially!! <br/>Later took pictures of almost finished bowls. <br/><br/>Guys if you love or want to taste Goan food this is the place after Nostalgia!! <br/><br/>

As the tagline goes "drink, dine and recline" this heritage house opposite mandovi offers the same to you. This place introduces you to the authentic goan flavors. Even if you are a vegetarian you don't need to worry as this place has a vegetarian counterpart for everything listed on the menu. The staff is usually overworked but nice, patient and courteous. As adviced by them I chose to go with "veg dangar" for starter and trust me it is one of the best starter I have had in a while. It's different and unique. Whereas the xacuti I had for main course was okay, and could have been much better. But overall a good dining experience.

The 3 star rating is for the ambience , we good wood work and get very Goan Portuguese era feel ! But they really need to work on the food part 🤦‍♂️ , we order prawn curry that wasn't the way we expected a Saraswat Hindu style curry to be ! Fried prawns was good but not the best . Chef needs to a bit more focused on the kitchen I guess, but I really loved the ambience and feel of the place .

Finally Voltaire is on Zomato ! Waited for over a year to review this place. And really happy I'm d first..<br/><br/>Quiet restaurant with well planned interiors to stay true to it's name. Run by a Non Catholic Goan family they make sure they put in extra effort to live up to the Goan flavors.<br/><br/>The person attending to us seemed like he was one among the family members that run the place. He payed careful attention to our Goan food cravings and suggested just the right dishes. I remember having the Prawn Dangar and it's d best I've had till date. We had an all Goan dinner that night and every dish was yum.<br/><br/>With all due respect to Hindu beliefs, the only drawback is that they don't serve beef or pork. And pork is a delecasy here in Goa.<br/><br/>All in all, I'm definitely visiting again and recommend this place of you are the North and wish to have a quiet lunch / dinner.<br/>
