So, my wife decided to take me out for lunch for my birthday, and we visited Karavalli at Taj Gateway hotel. And I must say, it was an absolutely delightful experience. The food was great, but what really stood out for us was the exceptional service from the staff.
The coastal cuisine was great, and the menu was quite extensive, but we decided to try the traditional banana leaf experience – we had a palm fringed lunch (veg) and a seafood lunch. And the food was amazing! The staff was extremely helpful and detailed all the items available in our lunch, and every item tasted great. It was definitely a great option with both veg and non-veg having plenty of options – the appams, paratha and rice were also perfect. I could go on about individual items, from the rasam to the veg stew to the squid, prawns, pomfret fry and the seer fish curry, but it would just be varied words of praise.
While making the reservation, we had informed that it was to celebrate a birthday, so the staff also presented us a birthday cake as well. While I am personally awkward with the birthday song and the extra attention in general, the sweet nature of the staff got me through my initial reluctance. Special thanks to Mr. Suresh, Mr. Vinoth and Ms. Seema for taking such good care of us. All in all, a great experience and highly recommended!
The food is different, ambiance is beautiful must go place
Had one our sumptuous lunch there at Karavalli. It was always on my to-do list.
Preparation wise, it was okay, I would say.
I had good coastal food elsewhere as well.
Ambience and service gets 5 star - rating.
Karavalli is a high-end restaurant serving cuisine from the West coast of India in a refined setting. Seafood plays a major role in the cooking along the coast, and we tried the Kane Kaidina (whole lady fish) and the Malvani Surmai (seer fish steak), both of which were covered in a red spice paste and shallow-fried. I also got the Mangalorean Fish Curry, which came with sliced white pomfret fish in a spiced coconut curry, which went nicely with the thin neer dosa and fluffy appam we ordered on the side. On the table came more accompaniments including rasam, tomato and coconut chutneys, papad, crunchy rings, and pickle, and everything was presented beautifully and served on a banana leaf. What a delicious seafood meal!
A totally wonderful experience middle of the city. Great outdoor seating and wonderful service.
Seafood is a bit too watered down for more expensive taste buds so do not go looking for a spice kick
Food is so great. Mostly of Malabar and Mangalore style.
But when it comes to cost, this restaurant is not for middle class people. The cost is too high. For 2 people it costs around 4k.
Apart from cost, the atmosphere and food is great.
For an authentic seafood experience. Ambience is good as well. The setup and the attention from the waiters is great. Food takes a little while to be served. We went on a work-day night which meant lesser occupied tables which meant better service.
Must try the sea food. Reminded me of good dining experiences in Kerela.
The food at Karavalli has been the most authentic coastal cuisine you can taste in Bengaluru. There is outdoor seating arrangement here. We had tried attirachy ularthi, neychoru, appam and meen pollichathu. All the dishes were really tasty.
You'd be hard pressed to find a better South Indian fine dining experience in India let alone Bangalore. What I enjoyed most about the food at Karavalli is the authenticity. They didn't back away from the spices and the depth of flavour that's required to create this kind of cuisine. We had a variety of dishes and each one of them was wonderful as were all the accompaniments.
Special mention needs to go to the service at Karavalli which is really great. We had Uday as our host and he was extremely knowledgable about the menu and gave great recommendations and was excellent throughout.
Karavalli is a must visit and deserves its legendary status.
I had mixed feeling before going for this place. But I was happy to choose this place for my special occasion dinner. The ambience is good, you have open as well as closed dinning area. I went there on weekday so there was not much rush, but if you are going on weekends then a reservation is a must here.
The servers here will help you with the order and portions. we tried Prawns ghee roast in the starters, which was the show stopper for us. Only thing which worried me was the price for the given portion of prawns. If you dont like/eat prawns, then you can go for Attirachy Ularthu which is a lamb dish. It was cooked very beautifully. The lamb pieces were melting in the mouth.
We also order,
Karavalli is a culinary gem. The restaurant's authentic coastal Indian cuisine is a delightful journey for the palate. From succulent seafood dishes to aromatic curries, each bite is a celebration of flavors. The ambiance is inviting, reflecting the region's warmth. Attentive service and a diverse menu showcasing traditional recipes make Karavalli a standout dining experience. The attention to detail, including the use of fresh ingredients and spice blends, creates a symphony of tastes that transport you to the southern coast. A true haven for food enthusiasts seeking an unforgettable taste of India's coastal culinary heritage.
Best place to try sea food, although I dint try but they have many options, the quality, quantity and the taste is really good. They have very nice service and the price is budget friendly. Best to visit with family and friends.
