Review Qissa Khawani - Bengaluru

Chaitra Govindaraju
A very simple and cute place located in church street, in the same complex of Indian Coffee House. The menu has limited options. Loved the entire concept of this beautiful place. You choose the dish u want and they prepare right in front of you from scratch. So, you know what goes into the dishšŸ˜‹ Only 5 people can dine at one time. A good food place for small group! One of a kind experience. 100% value for money.

This is what you get when you take a dhaba out of national highway 1 in punjab/haryana and install it in Bangalore. Punjabi food doesn't get more authentic than this (south of maharashtra) Fixed menu of buttery curries, dal makhani wtc. served with naans and laccha parathas straight from the oven, with sweet and masala lassi. A warm staff tops it off. The restaurant itself seats just about 6-7 inside and 2-3 outside. So takeaway may be most convenient. But to enjoy the absolute freshness, wait is worth it.

I am a big queens fan. But since that place is shut, Qissa is a good alternative. They are a bit pricier so 4 stars for them. The dal makhani, tandoori roti and lassi is a great combo.

This restaurant has a very unique concept which makes you feel very special. It is a small cosy place which serves delicious North Indian food.
Agrim Aggarwal
The most authentic North Indian food freshly prepared in front of your eyes. Loved this concept. Do try out the brocolli starter and the tadka lassi. Amazing taste and preparation.
Sanhita Guha
Very different from the conventional North Indian restaurants.Food is made before you and served. Very small space with around 6 seats..but great earthy decor and great food.Closet space with an amazing old world charm.Right opposite Brik Oven. Must try: Lasuni Kebabs and Lassis.
Sajal Sharma
Authentic cuisine and mouthwatering taste, must go if you are looking for food that is closer to home made one
Vibhooti T
Insane North Indian food in Bangalore. Broccoli malai tikka is unmissable. Pretty much everything else too.

So this place. It's quite unusual at first. A small space crunched shop in Church Street. So small so that only there is space for 5 people to sit and eat. But once you are inside Qissa Khawani it's just not some oridnary eatery. You get to sit in front of this kitchen which is an amazing feeling it's like having one to one with your food. Watching it actually get cooked infront of yourself. The real magic is their food. I had rajma chawal, mutton pulav and Tadka Chaas and man this was some superb food out their. A must try place. Ratings 4.2 actually.

Very nice place for punjabi food.. Not alot of options but a good one for freshly made punjabi cuisine. You can see whatever is prepared. Cozy place for 2-3 people mostly šŸ˜„

Unique dining experience. A must visit for all the rajma chawal lovers. Already been there around 5 times in last 15days. :)

Awesome food and fast service

This reminded me of outlets showed in bollywood movies. Give a try, it is definitely worth it.

This was in my bucket list since a long time. The first time I thought of visiting on a weekend, it was closed. When I called them, they informed that the restaurant is closed indefinitely. The second time I called them when I was at home. This time it was open and I got a chance to visit. I was satisfied. with this visit.

I tried Mutton Biriyani and Galouti Kebab. The menu had limited set of items, but still most of them were unavailable. May be because the place is small, they prepare 3-4 items a day and only thats the menu for that day. The best part is the items they prepare are good. I mean really good. The person serving food there gave me suggestions to have Galouti kebab with Biriyani. It was mouth watering. I would say I was very much satisfied with the food here.

Service was good. Server was trying to communicate at his best. Ambience is okay. I mean it is small and it is not suitable for families. Bachelors can adjust with it.

Prices are decent. The experience is definitely worth the price you pay.

I would refer this place to all the bachelors who crave for North style biriyani and starters.

Hygiene - 3.5/5
Taste - 4.5/5
Service - 3.5/5
Ambience - 2.5/5 (Since Families cannot dine in the restaurant)
Price - 3.5/5

Overall experience - 3/5

Suggestion to the owners:Ā
It would be better if there is consistency in terms of restaurant timings. Most of the people may not prefer to call the restaurants to know whether it is open.

This is a tiny place but serves awesome biryani! And a chai after that biryani was sone pe suhaga! I am in so love with this biryani! Though it is a small place, food is what mattered thenšŸ˜ā¤ļø

This place was decent, but definitely over hyped. Did not live up to the expectation. I ordered the butter chicken with paratha and mutton biriyani. The butter chicken was very ordinary but the paratha was decent.
The biriyani too was not up to the mark. Expected so much more but I was disappointed. The quantity of ghee used was overwhelming.
The mutton galouti was something very different though, give that a try!
Abhishek Todmal
Not enough spacing to seat.
Food is average and heavy on pocket
Rohan Muntha
Brilliant food! Loved the biryani and the tunday kebab along with the lassi which is definitely recommended. The best part is the food is prepared right in front of you. Minus the biryani since you can't make biryani in the matter of an hour.
Kudos to Akshath for being a great host!

'Qissa khawani' is an explosion of taste contained in a tiny box.

This tiny little eatery is located in church street and is easily noticeable. When I say tiny, I mean it. Literally. There's absolutely no place to walk, let alone sit. Barely 6 people can be seated at a time. There's no ventilation either. You'll always find people waiting outside to get a seat. So it's best you go early and grab yourself a seat.

The food is the highlight here. It's lip smacking. I had never experienced food like that before.
Here's what we had ordered:
1. Butter chicken - TOO GOOD. Couldn't get enough of it. It was delectable.
2. Mutton seekh - it was the first time I had tried mutton and I absolutely loved it! MUST TRY.
3. Naan
The food (in terms of quality) is spectacular. Hands down. No complaints whatsoever. The quantity though is very poor. For the price you're paying the food you get is very little. But there's absolutely no compromise in taste. So it doesn't really matter. Also, they serve the food in foam containers and it's quite irritating to be honest. Nonetheless, the food is the stronghold here and it definitely doesn't dissappoint.

The service is slow. There were just two people. It took forever for the food to come. There's definitely scope for improvement.

Overall, 'Qissa khawani' is extraordinary. The quality of food here is just something else all together. You cannot get enough of it. Definitely a MUST VISIT!

Overall rating:
Food - 5/5
Service - 2/5
Ambience - 3/5

Itā€™s one of the most legendary places in Bangalore. Real food, rich in quality, and moreover amazing as an experience. I would put more photos, of whatever I eat tomorrow. Great food and moreover a great experience!

This cute outlet is situated at the heart of church street. I accidentally get in to this place and had their Awadhi mutton dum biriyani , surprisingly am quite impressed with this ,the quality of biriyani was excellent , loved their quick service and ambienceā¤ļø

Had mutton Biryani and gilouti kebabs. I can safely say that this is the best kebab and mutton I had in Bangalore. Really soft and tender. Prices are very reasonable and owner very helpful and respectful

THE BEST AWADH STYLE BIRIYANI IN BANGALORE
.
Without doubt they serve the best awadhi style mutton biriyani in the town. Located at the heart of the town at Church street, this is a cozy little place with an old school live kitchen ambience. The walls are decorated with grilled iron rods and earthern pots to give the authentic look. The chef hails from Lucknow and is skilled in giving us the same taste we expect from Lucknow mughlai cuisine.
.
We first tried some kulhad chai which was perfectly made. Then we had some galouti mutton kebab, which is minced mutton with onion, fried on tawa which just melted in mouth perfectly. The taste, texture was awesome. As they used the pure ghee for their kebabs, the taste was more enhanced and flavourful. We had these kebabs with some mughlai paratha and mutton korma.
.
Then it was time to try the Biriyani which I was eagerly waiting for. We ordered just half plate and we're happy to see the quantity served. They serve mutton dum biriyani with raita, one gravy and onions.
.
Plus points of this Biriyani
1. The ghee used was very good quality, which enhanced the flavour.
2. The mutton pieces were good both in quality and quantity, lucious, delicious mutton pieces.
3. They didn't use rose water, which actually makes the biriyani heavy and bad afterbreath. This was a lighter biriyani which you can actually eat in more quantity without being heavy at a time.
4. It was authentic dum Biryani, not a simple pulav or fried biriyani and made with pure Basmati rice.
.
These are some of the reasons everyone should try their biriyani with friends and family. I totally loved their food and hope all of them like it.
.
We closed our lunch with some sweet-salt lassi which was again very light one with a consistency of chaach. It was in one word a perfect lunch.
.
Even the staff and chef there makes you feel home and you can enjoy cooking with them as it is a live kitchen, good value for price.
.
Highly highly recommended

Amazing Food , Music that makes you nostalgic , simple decors and some amazing hosts is what defines @qissakhawani. If you're looking for some well cooked meat and splash of Flavours of Lucknow on your plate you must visit this place. My personal favorites were the Mutton Galouti Kebabs and the Mutton Biryani. A bite of Galouti Kebabs which melts in your mouth with a spoon full of the rich biryani and Mix of spices of Mutton curry is the real treat your taste buds deserve šŸ˜‹

Excellent service, friendly staff and what amazing food! šŸ¤© highly recommend the galouti kebab and mutton biryani. One of the best authentic Awadhi food I have had in Bangalore.

Great, simple food. The ambience is really nice and homely. Would recommend as a nice easygoing vibe and comfortable place. Hopefully they release some desserts soon!
I went to qissa khawani last week for the first time and from the experience I had I couldn't wait to go there again so I went again this week. There food is amazing. I never liked mutton but I started eating mutton because of this place.
Their mutton biriyani, mutton korma, galouti kebabs are to die for. If you haven't eaten here you are really missing something.
Yudhajit Bhattacharjee
There are some food which go to the stomach and then there are some which go straight to the heart. The luscious Awadh dishes at Qissa Khawani served as the latter. After several attempts to book a table here, for this tiny outlet with just 6 chairs at the heart of Church Street in Bangalore, is seldom empty, to our rejoice, we got finally got into this place on one Sunday evening.Ā

They have recently changed their menu which has just a limited number of dishes for now , which includes the Awadh Mutton Biryani, Mutton Korma, Mutton Eshtew, and the Gilawti kabab, with some kullad kesari lassi and kullad takdi tadka lassi to wash the food down with.Ā

Keeping up with one of those unique traditions where you can see the meal being actually prepared in front of you, Qissa Khawani is in itself a delightfully unmatched experience.Ā

So, we ordered all the dishes from their newly renovated menu. The scumptuousĀ 200 year old Awadhi biryani was to die for. Rice so perfectly cooked that each grain held the Lucknowni flavor. Spices wafting their aroma and the mutton cooked to perfection, this biryani with the gravy of the mutton Korma would make any biryani lover nostalgic. And so was the Mutton Eshtew. Again, meat cooked the perfection. Not too spicy and neither bland. A juicy taste that again blended well with the Biryani. And finally the Gilawti Kabab. With my modest knowledge, I could claim that this was one of the best Gilawti kababs I've had. So tender and soft that it just slides through your tongue. Very few places in Bangalore have captured the true essence of the Gilawti kabab. It's not supposed to be chewy and crunchy, rather the name Gilawti itself is a representation that this kabab should just be swallowed down. Qissa Khawani does utmost justice to this.Ā

Finally the Lassis added to the taste for the evening. Not too thick, I preferred the kesari lassi more, with the inclination being its slight sweetness in taste.Ā

Another good thing about the food was that it was cooked so well that it didn't make you feel full no matter how much you ate. We chatted a while with the owners who brought a certain energy and positivity to the table, and we got to know that they plan to expand this place further in terms of space and dishes as well. Next, they are going to set their hands on some popular vegetarian dishes like the Dal Makhani.Ā

So overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I'd heartily recommend all to try out this place whenever free. You wouldn't regret it, even though the dishes are a little pricey.Ā

This place caught my attention when we were waiting for a table in brik oven and the amazing aroma of biryani wafted towards us. As it is situated just opposite brik oven, we decided to try out the biryani. As we entered it is a very small place with a seating arrangement of 5-6. Luckily 2 seats were vacant and we immediately placed our orders for muttan biryani with mutton korma.

This was a special lucknowi biryani which had a 200 year recipe. It is known as idrees biryani in lucknow. The delicious aroma made complete justice to the biryani as the taste was just mind blowing. The mutton was tender and cooked well. The taste was not overpowering nor very mild but just perfect.

The mutton korma had a spicy yet subtle taste. It went very well in combination with the biryani. The mutton pieces in korma too very very juicy and tender. They were not overcooked and just perfect.

Would definitely love to visit again and try out the other dishes.

My friend recommended this place and it was worth going there. We ordered Mutton Galauti Kebab, Mutton Biryani, Veg Biryani , sweet Lassi and Tadka buttermilk. The mutton was fresh and tender and the biryani was flavorful. The galautiā€™s were melting in the mouth. I would recommend to go this place and enjoy the mughlai dishes. The owner is polite and friendly. Waiting for their Kashmiri menu to start.

It was one of the best experiences i had although the sitting arrangement is tight and just 7 seats in the restaurant but the wait is totally worth the food. Lassi was amazing as well as rajma chawal and laccha parantha. I just couldn't stop ordering lassi. I think i ordered 3 lassis. You can see the food cooking in front of you. To try good North Indian food you must visit Qissa Khawani once. Also you can book seats.. I booked two and they gave me seats just after 5 minutes of waiting so do book a seat as otherwise there's a big rush.
Service-4.5/5
Food-5/5
Cost-5/5
Overall-5/5
There's not much ambience so no rating for that.
Emmanuel (@bangalorefoodboy89)
I love this place. Itā€™s a single row seating, very small n congested place, but, sitting 3 foot away from the chef makes the preparation clearly visible. Do not go there as a group more than 5 coz thatā€™s all they can accommodate in total.

Food: This is a place that serves limited options but damn tasty šŸ˜‹ The tandoori chicken (whatever u order) is tender, perfectly cooked and the marination is outstanding. Dhal Makhani is also brilliant with the layer of cream and goes perfectly with Roti. Their Lassi not the thick types, but, still a very nice refreshing drink šŸ˜‹

I have been here about 5-6 times and enjoyed every time with food and service. From the kitchen straight to the plate! Literally šŸ˜¬

If you're a Butter Chicken lovers, make sure it's on the top of your list.
They serve everything on live counter, so the place is always filled with aromas of delicacies.
The experience is so personalised and the courteous staff will take care of each & every request of yours.

PS: Tea addicts, Don't miss their kulhad waali chai.

Such good food! The staff is very friendly and sweet. Very small place but the food more than makes up for it! We had paneer butter masala with laccha parantha and butter naan. The paneer quantity was a little less at the price they charge but it was sooo yummy that I couldn't complain for the small serving size. I'm a fan! :)

A tiny gem hidden in plain sight on Church Street!

Iā€™ve dined quite often opposite Qissa Khawani, not paying much notice to it. One day, I decided to try it out for lunch. The ambiance is basic but cosy, with the limited seating being a bit tight. The glorious food though makes up for any shortcomings you might experience!

I ordered a Paneer Kadai, a Gobi Paratha and a Paneer Paratha. All three were made freshly in front of me, and boy did they taste amazing! I had to wait a while for the steaming Parathas to cool off, no complaints however. The taste was very comforting, almost like eating at home. These were washed down with a Kesar Lassi and a Salt Lassi, both providing much needed respite from the hot Sunday afternoon just outside! The prices are friendly, so is the service. One of the staff even dabbled in elementary French with me, after hearing me talk to someone else. I appreciate such camaraderie, adds a much needed human touch to the business of food.

Iā€™m definitely coming back again!

Visited the place for a quick brunch and service was well provided. Food was great except for one minor let down.
The rice used to make the pulao was prepared from before mostly because I could see few grains dried out.
Other than this, its a decent place to have lipsmacking mughlai delicacies.

Food- 4/5
Ambience- 3.5/5
Service- 4/5

P.s- they prepare the food right in front of you!

I wish words could describe the food they serve here. One actually has to visit and experience the ambiance and hospitality. It was such a great experience. Weā€™ll definitely visit again.
They use crockeries made of sugarcane fibre, which is 100% biodegradable and environment friendly. Kudos for that.

Live kitchen šŸ‘, brings all your homely atmosphere to you šŸ˜ƒ, best of all superb foodšŸ˜‹ special dessert kheer & kulfi are a must try here šŸ˜Š the Punjabi food is just like you get in North India. Extremely warm staff .I recommend this place for every person who loves Punjabi šŸ‘³food . everything is made on daily basis.

This is one hidden gem you will definitely miss this place this is exactly inside brick oven building
This is tiny little place you sit on a high chair over looking the tiny kitchen they serve you in disposable plates
Decor has rustic feel
Ok let me talk about the food mainly
Please try their paneer , broccoli and chicken items
Then the parathas dal makhini basically it is tandoor outlet
PS note they are closed on Thursday s

Kulhad Kesari lassi - Really tasty and must try for all lassi lovers
Classic murgh tikka - charcoal fired tandoor will make you drool and must try for non veg fans
Dal makhani with naan - Taste was pretty good

Small place with 5 to 6 seating but the taste was really good. Very pretty ambience and you option to connect your phone and play some music while enjoying the food.
Worth the price and highly recommended

This had to be one of the best meals I have had in Bangalore. It's a quaint area that can seat upto about 7-8 people at a time. This was perfect as all the focus was on the food which exceeded our expectations! You can see your food being made at every step, which I think is great in terms of understanding what is being put on your plate.

First, we had the Tadka Lassi which is a savoury lassi. Loved it!
Next, we ordered the Laal Maas with Garlic Naan and Paneer Paratha with Dal Makhani! The Laal Maas was exceptional and the meat was cooked perfectly. The paneer was also tasty and very soft with the Dal Makhani. We were told that Laal Maas and the Dal Makhani were the house specials and now, we can vouch for that as well.

Overall, I cannot stress on how much I would recommend this place owing to the quality of food and the service!
Saligram.sahana
Absolutely amazing food and hospitality! Slightly pricy for a hole in the wall place. But that food made it totally worth it.

We ordered the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, tadka lassi. We wanted to try the biryani but neither chicken nor mutton biryani was available. We got the plain pulao instead. Everything was totally delicious and very satisfying.

This restaurant takes 'In less is more' pretty seriously. For starters we had Broccoli Malai Tikka which was phenomenal! Very creamy and fluffy to bite into each piece. Dahi ke Sholey is good but not that great.Ā For main course we had the quintessential Dal Makhani with plain naan. Dal Makhani is not the usual kind that one has but was tasty nonetheless. I would go here again for the dal considering it is tough to find good Dal Makhani in Bangalore.
As this is a live kitchen, it has less seating capacity (Suggestion : Instead of serving in thermocol plates, they could either serve in bio-degradable plates or steel/glass plates. Something which is reusable.

Updated: These guys are now revamping their menu to include 200 year old Lucknowi and Kashmiri recipes. This time we had Veg Biryani, Mutton Khusk biriyani and Mutton Galauti kababs. Such delicate prep! According to my friend, mutton was extremely soft and very well flavoured. The prep is wholesome, extremely flavourful and has exactly the amount of spices needed. Very home cooked and delicious food! We also had lassi and tadka lassi. As for veg biriyani, it was really tasty and had paneer chunks in them. We were full after eating but didn't feel bloated or uneasy. That is the sign of great cooking!

The best place to get authentic food in Bangalore. A small cozy place where you get unbelievably tasty food. Highly recommend you to try dahi k sholay and the mutton the make here. Also the home made khir is on another level.
Ritu Somani
while standing in waiting queue, we happen to see a small place with a kitchen attached attached to it. The set up kind of drew our attention and we decided to step in. The place was small and cozy and nicely decorated with kullads. Basically had a live kitchen, where you could see your order getting prepared(and yea can learn a bit of techniques and cooking). We started with kullad chai which was simple and nice. After having a chat with the owner, we decided to go for broccoli malai. It was prepared in charcoal. It had a tint of charcoal taste to it which made it more delicious.Ā

I highly recommend this place for punjabi food lovers!!

Akshit is the man who runs this place. He recommended Dahi k sholay, murgh malai Tikka, garlic naan and a mutton gravy dish, which I do not remember the name. He serves food the way he likes it. I LOVED IT! Keeping this review simple. I LOVED THE FOOD here and the passion Akshit has towards it. I strongly recommend this place.

It is a very tiny place but the food is very good. The flavors of north has been served really nicely.
This is my third time coming to this place. And the first two times was a decent experience. Cause there werenā€™t other costumer and they could attend to us nicely. But today it toke him 30min just to listen to my order. The manager seems to not manage the ordering part with the tablet.
Even if the food is so delicious waiting for 1 hour for food in this tiny place is really not pleasant.
ATIF ADIB
The food is delicious but the service is really bad.
The server doesnā€™t know how to place an order on a simple tablet, takes him about half an hour to accept your order and then another 45 to serve you!
Sambit Behura
Laal Maansh Mutton Curry is a must try, one of the best places to have mutton dishes!
Also try the kheer!
Thw owner is really polite and nice to customers.

After having read raving reviews of this place, we went to this place. And now heading back home, really not sure why we bothered! Given the fact that one literally looks into the kitchen while eating, I would have assumed that more emphasis would be given to following proper hygiene. I did notice that all the food was prepared without washing of hands or wearing gloves. I for one found that really unpleasant. The food is handed over the counter, which can be a hassle for the people sitting right in front, since they either have to move or help in handing over the dishes. Hence, donā€™t understand the 5% service charge either. Not to forget that the second naan we ordered was handed over the counter with a pair of tongs! No plate nothing..sir your naan and a naan suspended in the air!
The food was average..the seekh kabab soft but without much flavor and not cooked well. The chutney accompanying it again too watery and flavorless. The plain naan a bit too thick and again underdone. Dal makhani average. The aloo paneer naan was the only dish partially enjoyed. Coming back again, I think not!

This is a very small, hole in the wall kinda place. We ordered paneer Tikka, the tadka lassi, classic tangdi kebab
Pros - my husband mentioned the chicken was really good (I did not have it). Loved the tadka lassi, although portion size could have been better. You can see the food being made, it's done right in front of you
Cons - Very small place, no air conditioning. The paneer Tikka was not made well. Infact, I saw later that on a subsequent order, they cut the paneer, marinated it for just about a minute before putting it in the tandoor. The flavour obviously will not seep into the paneer on this duration of marination. Their prices are not very different from an average restaurant in Bangalore, and they serve food in thermacol plates and provide wooden spoons. On asking for a second portion of the tadka lassi, I was asked if I'd like a refill to my current kulhad or a fresh one (because they are trying to save on their resources!!). Of the limited menu that they have, we asked for at least 2 dishes we were told we're not available. On top of this, a 5% service charge for just passing the food from across the counter.

This is a little hole-in-the-wall place that serves really tasty roti and subji.
Their tea is also absolutely worth it. And the staff is really friendly and nice

A North Indian diner with a style.
Heard about this place from friends and wanted to visit for the much spoken north Indian cuisine. The place was smaller in size than expectations. But what it might have lacked in size, the chef more than compensated in taste of their food.
Caution - they are small and they cook tight there, in front of you, so they take time. For us, they took a loooooot of time. We were told that they are running with half the staff. But then with food so amazing, the delay was soon forgotten.
They mirchi parantha was superb, along with the preparation of the meat. It is a level above than the normal north Indian flavors you might get at other fancy restaurants, so yes, they do have a style of their own. Mind it, the quantity might be lesser than what you'd expect, so one should order accordingly. And they do have some of the usual tasting dishes in the menu as well.
Although, sitting there, you do feel bad about the lot of people standing and waiting in queue just outside. Guess some have to pay more than just money for good food.
A word to the host, to be more receptive of customer's preference and receptive to feedback.
Overall, a much tastier experience than the usual restaurants.
Joe
Mughlai food anyone??? Please do visit this tiny little place... ordered lasooni murgh Malai Tikka and paneer Tikka...it was absolutely mouth watering and soft as cotton...the chicken was marinated in curd and stuffed with some cream making it very tendor...paneer Tikka was soft and tandoored well..it's slightly expensive for a tiny place as this! But the food is amazing!

A tiny cute place with open kitchen and preperation all in front. Tried the dal makhani and butter chicken. Must visit for butter chicken and crispy naan. On my second visit, they did not had butter chicken as I was told they are rotating the menu with different options on different days. (not sure why!) Also I tried the lassi which was fine. And how can I forget the Marshall speakers where you can play your own songs! :)

I liked the concept of this restaurant. Limited seats which are faced directly towards the kitchen and you can literally see the chef cooking your dish. Decent price Iā€™ll say and the food was good too, not bad to try it out. Not much crowd as there are very limited seats like hardly 10-11. Nicely decorated and Iā€™ll definitely recommend if youā€™re ever in church street, Bangalore.

Superb food all prepared in front of your eyes!! Best garlic naan in Bangalore along with lehsuni tangdi!!

A must have. Love the food here!!

I instantly fell in love with this little restaurant which is easy to miss on church street. At first I thought this was an extension of the pizza place adjacent to it but then I saw that it was a small authentic Indian cuisine place with very limited seating. The decor is simple yet rustic with exposed brick walls and clay kullads.
The entire restaurant can seat upto 8 members at a time and all of these seats are facing three little windows that open up directly into their kitchen.
The dahi Sholay Is heavy but tasty and the paneer tikka was tasty. The broccoli was creamy and was just spicy enough. I chose the mutton dum biriyani and polished it off my plate.
The only con was that u could see some dishes being made right there while some others were taken out of a container and reheated on a pan. I understand itā€™s difficult to manage cooking things like the fun biriyani in what seems to be a live kitchen but at the least the cooks can refrain from opening plastic boxes in front of the diners.

Amazing food by team Qissa Khawani on a very consistent basis. Lehsuni Malai Murg tikka and Punjabi chicken curry are the best dishes. This place makes me happy.

Qissa Khawani is like a Treasure Box, a very small place with delicious food. Its a casual dining outlet located in Church Street. It has speciality in serving north indian dishes. Now comes to the best part, The food. We opted for Classic Murgh Tikka and Lehsuni Malai Murgh Tikka as our Starters. Lehsuni Malai Murgh Tikka is sout of this world. Itā€™s damn good and perfectly cooked (Kudos to the chef for this one). Classic Murgh Tikka was equally brilliant. Then for main course we opted for Plain Pulav, Lachha Paratha, Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken and Mutton Curry. Among all, my recommended dish will be Butter Chicken and Garlic Nun. But, that does not mean, others are bad, all the dishes are equally good. This place won't disappoint you in terms of food. For dessert, we opted for Kulhad Kesari Lassi and last we ordered a Kulhad Tea. Even, desserts also dinā€™t dissapoint us. Overall, if you are in Bangalore this isĀ a must try for all.Ā

The best Punjabi food you can ever get and the atmosphere is really good. The best part is that you can see them cooking right in front of you which shows how clean they are.

Very Impressive!!!
The smallest restaurant I have visited in my life time.10/11 seater with 5/6 cooks!
The food is prepared in front of you and served hot ,
A small menu but good enough to fill your tummy, better to book a table and go.
The only thing I didnā€™t like was the thermocol plates!
But surely a must experience place;)
Will surely go back..

I had THE best North Indian food in Bangalore. The chole, parathas, lassi and chicken malai tikka were all simply delicious. Highly recommended

What a find!Ā Qissa Khawani has to be one of the coolest finds for me around town. Who knew Bangalore could serve such an amazing North Indian fare. The moment I stepped into this tiny little place on Church Street(right next to another awesome place called brik oven),Ā I was pleasantly surprised by how cool it all looks and how amazing it smells. Its a live kitchen serving awesome kebabs and Naans/parathas from their tandoor and super authentic curries. I tried the Lehsuni Malai Chicken Tikka for starters and boy what a start that was. Perfectly cooked chicken in a perfect garlicy marinade was one of the best kebabs I've ever had. for the maincourse I went with kadai paneer, dal makhani along with freshly baked laccha parathas and it could be one of the best meals of my life. Their laccha parathas opening up like a spring with these numerous layers is one of the most satisfying visual experience and are perfect accompaniments for the Dal and the kadai paneer.Ā The paneer was super soft and I was told that they make their own cottage cheese fresh every day. Kudos to them for making their own paneer. Although its a tiny place, it is inspiring to see how well maintained all of it is and the staff is remarkably sweet. Its rare to find this kind of service in restaurants these days. I was told that they have plans to rotate the menu and add few more interesting dishes soon. I am going back to try the rest of the menu with some close friends soon.Ā This place is EPIC.

I understand that you start cooking after the order is placed. But after waiting for the food to be prepared, you go serve it to another person. That's just bad service, you are not paying attention where it's needed.
Amogha Chandrashekar
I would say do not go hungry to this place .:(:( The quality..well its quite spicy and do not get my started on the quantity !! For the price you pay, we got a small place and plastic plate,,,and a small katori of Panner for 3 . Mind you ..we are paying 300+ for a dish!!Ā Go at your own risk..I would say a miss rather than wasting your time . But The lassi really was the best I had..I also noticed that foreigners were treated much better than us..,,really!! ??

Small and cosy place with personalized service. Fantastic food. Must visit for a foodie who loves North Indian and Mughlai food. Tandoori kebabs and chicken curries are a must try. Dal is superb.

I never get disappointed from this place. Oh my, their food is so yummilicious. Their paratas tastes very authentic. A must try is their rajma chawal. Sluuurrp. It's a small joint where the food is prepared right in front of u and served hot.
P. S: They don't serve pickle with paratas. That's the only negative abt this placešŸ˜šŸ˜‹

This is a Very small place in church street which is inside a complex. We were 6 of us. We ordered Kullad chai, Dahi ke Sholay, Kesari lassi and Aloo Paratha.

Kullad chai- it was very good.

Dhai ke sholay- highly over priced. It costed ā‚¹250 for such a short portion. This tasted ok. One time try.

Lassi- very average and it was very thin. It was more like having buttermilk

Aloo paratha- this was the sad part. There was no salt in it. When we asked the manager, he just replied - ā€œthis is how it is supposed to be maā€™am.ā€ It was bad.

Overall the food is very average. Not a good experience.
very little quantity excessively priced

Just wow! Blown away by the food at this cozy little place that I didn't know existed 30 seconds before I decided to try it by walking in. Only 7 seats available but all upfront to the action that happens in the kitchen. Ordered the garlic Naan and kadai paneer which was just superb. Topped off with the ginger Chai and made my day. Will def go back. Wud recommend going during non rush hours since I can see how it can get crazy during rush hour being a small place and all. One of those places I wish will stay small catering to hardcore foodies.

This place was on my list since a very long time finally made it on a Friday afternoon for lunch.Itā€™s a tiny restaurant with retro feels, gives you a warm n homely feels. They have a very simple menu but trust me they serve the best food. The show stopper is the Marshaal speaker.Totally loved the new idea and the concept.looking forward to drop by very soon.

One of the best places for dinner in Bangalore. Seating & Menu here is limited so you will have to wait before you get a chance to taste the delicious food, but waiting is worth here.Ā

Live kitchen experience everything is cooked in front of you. Reason for a limited menu is that they want to maintain quality this is what staff says.

My favorite dish which I recommend everyone is Chicken Curry (I am a big fan of its gravy). Nice place to sit with friends and pluggingĀ in your phone to the antique looking Mashall Speakers, enjoying music (of your own choice) & dinner.
DEEPALI
Good food but expensive for the quantity of food served.
They have a small sitting arrangement just by their kitchen. Nice utilisation of the small place they have but gets smokey.

From long time it was on my queue to visit, finally got some time to visit this place.Ā Qissa KhawaniĀ is casual dining outlet located in Church street. It has speciality in serving north indian dishes.Ā The setup is different from other places where one gets to see how the food is being prepared right from their seats.
Amol Awate
An amazing place to have Punjabi food in Bangalore. Went there couple of times and have had Dahi key sholey and Kadai Paneer which was very good. Garlic naan is a must try. The staff is very courteous and helpful. It is a small place but very good food. Do try their food in their restaurant instead of ordering home, to enjoy the real taste.

We ordered rajma chawal and the sweet lassi! I didnā€™t like the sweet lassi .. rajma chawal was pretty good .. the quantity for rajma and the curd they give along with ur must be increased. Rice was well cooked and delicious

Food quality is great. We tried pander butter marsala , naan and lassi.
It's a small place, 6-8 people max can sit in the restaurant., Overall nice experience.

Seat for 8 ppl, nice and mouth watering food will be served on ordering food, very nice service.
I don't understand though why still they charge service tax.
Raised this concern, hopefully waiting for someone to respond on it.

A tiny place on Church Street
This place is for all the food lovers specially North Indian.
Canā€™t go for the ambience as there are only chairs infront of kitchen but the food will not disappoint.

Dal Makhani and Laccha Prantha were the best.
Hospitality is also good.
Must visit if you donā€™t want a good ambience but a delight of just food.
Ashish Shanbhag
My first visit to the restaurant.
This place is a tiny eatery with a capacity of 7 seats inside and around 4 outside. my favourite part abt the ambience was that they have only a bar stool kind of a seating exactly in front of the kitchen which lets you watch your dish being prepared.
One of the most succulent kebabs I've eaten.
The chicken curry is a game winner!
The downside of the restaurant is that the service is slightly slow since they have two chefs handling everything and also one of the chef who was constantly asking the manager not to accept any more orders post 10 PM.

Writing this down post a super contended meal at Qissa Khawani!!!Ā

We hadĀ
Mutton seekh - melt in mouth, like no where else (best goes with their flaky lachha parantha!!!
Lehsooni malai tikka - food coma!Ā
Butter chicken - super awesome & way well balanced flavours
Lal Maas - meat falling off the bone in a very rich & flavorful curry.
Garlic naan -soft, crispy, Ā garlicky & buttery right out of the tandoor (made infront of you)!!Ā

How I wish I could have this all least once everyday of my life. hahaĀ

It's a delight to watch the guys work in the kitchen infront of you. You can see the chef preparing your food right infront of you and the delectable dishes speak for themselves, obviously they look beautiful with all the char on the kebabs & cream on that curry. You'll know the magic I'm talking about with the first bite you gonna have!Ā

Pro Tip - go on a super empty stomach and entally prepared to over eat :D

This is a nice little place on Church street, could barely seat 10 people. The food was decent but nothing extra ordinary. The starters were great, the chicken gravy was good, I did like their butter garlic naan but their Dal Makhani lacked a punch.Be prepared for very strong elichi favour in all their curries and Chai.
Utkarsh Pawar
Awesome food. I had punjabi chicken curry which was very tasty. The best thing about it was the gravy. It was like homemade gravy. Also try the chicken malai Tikka. I have tried it at many places in Bangalore but this was the best. The chicken was properly marinaded and was juicy.

All the best!
I have been to this place twice and it was love at first sight!
Some 8 months back, tried basics - dal makhani and some naan/roti. By far the best daal makhani after ITC :) 5 star for that day! Food, service and awesome music made anniversary very special:)

Was there again today and expectations were high.
Ordered dahi ke sholey, daal makhani and breads again.
Dahi ke sholey - 5/5
Dal makhani - I was disappointed! 3/5
Something seemed off about the place today.
Still one of best places for punjabi food.
Himanshu Mahajan
One word. Amazing!
Specially finding Dahi ke Sholey outside of Dilli, they just won my heart.
The open kitchen experience. The blazing tandoor continuously giving me my first and true love, lacche paranthe and the speaker playing fine Punjabi tunes.
It's now on my to-always-go list, when in Bangalore.

I had the food delivered. Plain Pulav, Butter Chicken and Brocolli tandoor. Everything extreme tasty. Arrived hot and fast. Will order again.

What can you say about this place, whatever you say will be less. One of the most succulent kababs I have ever had. And the butter chicken, heavenly.
Raman Kapoor
the Punjabi chicken was very average with excessive oil inthe gravy and with chicken pieces that had more bone and lesser meat

Actually we have a group of epicureans. We always search for a great food joint to just binge on the dishes. This was our one of the cutest findings. Why I call this as the cutest, because this place is the tiniest restaurant I have even been to. This has only seven seats and 2/3 may be outside. Qissa Khawani, present at the heart of the Church Street, serves the best quality food. As we are all foodies, we had ordered Murg Tikka, Paneer Tikka, Garlic Naan, alu paneer paratha, paneer curry, chicken curry, mutton curry, coke and lassi and many more. All were delicious and neatly prepared. The live cooking concept was awesome. I felt it was little bit over priced. But food was mind blowing and very much hygienic. They prepare everything in front of you. The staffs were very friendly and polite. But we could not try Dahi ke Sholay.
Food-5/5
Service-5/5
Location-5/5
Price-4/5
Ashvik
Feels like you are eating at home , live kitchen concept small place but worth giving a try, price is bit on the higher end as compare to quantity.
1) Dahi ke sholay 4/5 worth trying
2) kadai paneer 3/5 quantity and price are totally poles apart
3) Dal makhni 4/5
4) Garlic naan 5/5
5) laccha paratha 5/5
*Try chole Bhatura*
Overall 4/5
Adityan Borkotoki
Amazing experience .the food was exquisite and the host were warm .try the seekh kabab , lachaa paratha , mutton curry ,lehsoni kabab and the kheer .
Shiva Krishna
Very tasty and nice food. Options are less for both and non veg. Mud glasses attracts you to drink tea or lassi. Taste the food if you visit church street
The Sassy Gastronome
The first time I went to Qissa Khawani was with 6 other people and to have all of us fitted inside that cosy little seating, we had to wait for more than half an hour. And once we settled inside and loved the ambience and had clicked pictures and played music (yes, you get to be your own DJ and play on those super amazing and antique Marshal speakers) and decided our order, we were told that the chicken and rice was over. So, we had no option but to go to some other place. But I was determined to return and devour some chicken at this place so I came back 3 days later with just one friend and we had Chicken Tikka Masala, some Pulao and Butter Garlic Naan. The food was totally worth the wait. They probably serve the best Naans in Bangalore. However, I feel that the portions are really really small considering the high prices that they charge. Otherwise, it's a good experience eating there and also looking at how your food is being prepared.

Went there for a late and quick lunch, and the food was a real treat given my hunger pang. I ordered the butter chicken with pulav. The butter chicken was utter delight. The kulhad sweet lassi was good too. Will definitely return with more time in hand to try other items in the menu.

Showed up on Zomato while searching for some good North Indian food with a rating.

So decided to experiment, smooth process of ordering and delivery was on time with the food being hot.

The food from this is place was fantastic and was as per my taste. The chicken tikka masala, Chole Bathure ans veggies.

This is surely going to be a place I will continue to order from.

Priyanka Kachwaha
Small place but wonderful and scrumptious servings , live kitchen concept, good place to have super awesome tandoori and North Indian cuisine, limited menu but worth trying everything. Both veg and non veg is good, but non veg starters are best to try for. Out of the tandoor and served hot. Try chai and lassi if u are a fan as they give in khulad.
Sajal Sharma
Authentic cuisine and mouthwatering taste, must go if you are looking for food that is closer to home made one
Rajma chawal is a must if you are looking for a North Indian style one.
Pallavivivivi
Such a tiny little place that goes unnoticed but damn theyā€™re like home . Hot food served right in front of you . Loved watching them make everything . The lassi, the naan, the paratha n the chicken curry . Too good
Grace Getzie
Great food. Very flavorful.
I love the open kitchen design and the staff is very friendly too.
The only drawback is the size. Only eight or so seats, so it's quite cramped.
Food Trail India
We have heard rave reviews about this place from many of our friends so during our two hour break we decided to try this place out for lunch. Located on Church Street right opposite our all time favorite Pizza place Brik Oven, we thought for once when we came here we should try out something different. The place has only about 7 seats which directly face the kitchen so you can see your food being cooked in front of you. When we arrived, we were the only customers there so we immediately placed our order.

Appetizers
To start our meal, we ordered their Paneer Tikka and the Lehsuni Malai Murgh Tikka. We were quite excited to try it out as we could see the Tandoor right in front of us. Unfortunately, we were made to wait for over an hour and were not even given water while we were made to wait. Every time we checked up with the staff they kept saying it would only take 5-10 minutes except they ended up doing the same thing 4-5 times. Finally, after the long wait we received the Paneer Tikka which was perfectly cooked and the quality of Paneer was very good. The seasoning was fine and we ended up quite liking it. The Chicken Tikka took even more time to come but it was also perfectly cooked, but it was over seasoned unfortunately for us.

Main Course
We ordered the Kadhai Paneer, Dal Makhani and the Butter Chicken along with a few of their Indian Breads. The Kadhai Paneer was an absolute disappointment as it was too greasy by any standard. It had barely any flavor and whatever little was there was overpowered by the amount of oil in the dish. We had to send it back and it was not even replaced for us. The Butter Chicken genuinely was not Butter Chicken as it was unseasoned and not what we expected considering the rave reviews this place has. We had to send this back too. The Dal Makhani was certainly a saving grace as it was very well cooked and seasoned along with a great flavor profile. All three of us had to settle for this single side as it was the only thing we liked. The Indian breads though were very well cooked and we certainly liked it.

Final Verdict
Due to the disappointing service we were not able to make it back in time for our appointment as we were there for well over two hours for a fairly simple meal. The premium they charge for each dish did not make too much sense as the portion sizes were fairly small along with slow service and below average taste. Since we complained to the manager we were offered a discount however it didnā€™t make too much sense to us as they ended up charging us even for the dishes which we sent back which were not replaced as well. The only real justification for the high prices was probably the area this place is located in barring which there was no real value which we saw. At the time of payment there was yet another fumble as we told him to split by three but the entire bill was charged to just one of us. It is also to be noted that they serve everything in paper plates and wooden spoons which is eco friendly, however it further decreases the value you should be paying for the dish. Other than the manager, everyone else seemed fairly indifferent to our plight saying itā€™s only a one-time occurrence and wonā€™t be repeated which only came out in the end. We certainly would not recommend this place to anyone unless some serious changes are made.

Food: 2/5

Price: 1.5/5

Ambience: 3/5

Service: 1.5/5

There's a popular saying "Good things come in small packages" and that is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Qissa Khawani. Located on Church Street just beside Brik Oven, this cute little place is a hidden gem in the city specialising in North Indian and Mughlai cuisine. I usually prefer having Indian food at home but a sudden plan with a friend brought us to this place last week & I must admit that I had an extremely satisfying dinner. It actually brought me back my good old Delhi memories.
We tried theĀ
- Broccoli Malai TikkaĀ
- Dal Makhani with Garlic NaanĀ
- Kadai PaneerĀ
- Mutton Curry with Plain PulavĀ
Each and every item was top notch and had that authentic Dilli wala swaad. My personal favorites were the Paneer and the Mutton Curry. The malai broccoli comes a close second. The dal could have been a bit better but tasted good nonetheless.
Serving time might be a little slow but that's because they make their food in small batches and its fresh. Speaking of the ambiance, the place is really small having only 5-6 seats with a live kitchen in front. But they have smartly used up the space; the earthy dĆ©cor with chai kulhads looks very trendy.Ā It was only the two of us that evening (apart from Swiggy orders) and we had a nice time interacting with the owner, Mr. Akshit (hope I got the name right). Ā
Reason am not giving a 5 is because the place is a little high on the pocket wrt the ambiance. We paid 1300/- for our meal.Ā Hope they maintain consistency in food in the coming years. I see great potential in the place in terms of food. Would love to see them come up with a proper restaurant sometime soon. Ā Ā

Good luck :)

Easily the best food Iā€™ve had in India. A really cozy atmosphere where you can watch your meal be cooked, and the staff were so friendly that they let us DJ the music. I wish I could rate higher than 5 stars - this place will be big.
Aditya Bhat
The place has an amazing ambience even though it's small, the food is amazing, you can see what eat being cooked in front of you and you will know you are going get the best. The place screams Quality over Quantity. The kullad Chai is best !

One of the best places I have visited in the longest time. With a very unique concept and really friendly staff. This place is a must visit.

This restaurant has a very unique concept which makes you feel very special. It is a small cosy place which serves delicious North Indian food.

This place just screams authenticity and simplicity all wrapped up in a small and cozy tavern looking feeling kitchen making you feel right at home. Punjabi food at its best and the best lassi in bangalore. A good frothy and flowy glass of goodness, Rose syrup and saffron.
I was totally sold with the Broccoli malai tikka and Palak paneer.
Great food. No bullshit.
My Qissa with Qissa khawani is never getting over.
