Matsuri is a traditional Japanese restaurant. If you are Japanese food lover, Matsuri will be the best spot. Ambience is cool. Food-wise: mild or without oil foods, well baked, unique menus. What to grab: Gyoza, Negima (boiled tuna), Grilled salmon, Chicken Katsu (Deep fried chicken). Highlight is Yakisoba noodles. Miss: Negima (tuna fish)

What an amazing place! It's a must visit for all Japanese cuisine enthusiasts who want to try authentic Japanese in Bangalore. This place has a very pretty and calm ambience with good food and service. We ordered a bunch of things and the Ebi Tempura and Shoyu Ramen were really nice.

One of the best restaurants I've been too. We ordered 4 dishes. Each was just awesome. Most of the people eating there were seem to be speaking in Japanese. We will definitely go there again to try other dishes. The steak was so soft that we could eat using the chopsticks only. One must try the "Niku tofu"!

Super authentic Japanese restaurant. Loved the vibe of the place. Tried a few different dishes. The Ebi tempura and the California rolls were our favourites. The chicken gyoza (dumplings) weren't the best. Portion size is very generous. It's a great place if you've built a good taste for authentic Asian food.

Authentic Japanese food.... Taste is amazing All products seems to be very fresh which enhances the taste multifold. In terms of Hospitality I wish to rate it more than 5 stars. Mansi and Rupali took good care of us as their guests. I really loved this place and recommend foodies to give it visit.

Each time we go to Matsuri we return satiated and satisfied! Love the authentic Japanese flavours, and quiet, comfortable atmosphere. Tonight we were served by Dimpy and had a lovely time. The gyu tataki (beef slices in citrus dipping sause) was delicious and tender, the stir fried pork was yum and their salmon maki sushi are a perfect mouth size. We also had the gyoza and Dimpy recommended their macha cake roll for dessert which was delicious (filled with the red bean paste). Next time I'll leave some space for Ramen!

Good tasty food, decent serving size and quality and aptly prized. Not to crowded during the weekdays not sure about the weekends. Friendly staff and guide you with the food choices. It was a good experience; we went there during new years season. Good Experience.

The food is pretty decent, close to Japanese food.... Good ambience, very friendly staff, but would like a bit more options in the menu especially deserts.... Basically there is no deserts at all!! But food tastes good, good quantity and quality but bit too expensive!! Overall a decent place to try atleast once!!

Japanese food always makes me happy..especially when authenticity is prioritized above everything. Matsuri by Chancery Hotels is an outstanding example. Lovely ambience and impeccable food. I still fail to remember when was the last time I had a Miso ramen so good so flavourful and so much umami..Chicken Nanban and Matsuri Maki (a house special). A green tea to start your dinner can't be more satisfying. Thank you to the entire team for making this a memorable experience.

Lovely dining experience! Sanchita was really sweet and helped us through the plethora of options. Kudos to the staff for a professional, but lovely experience! Highly recommended for decor, portions sizes and obviously, the cuisine! Great job

Matsuri Japanese Restaurant at The Chancery Hotel on Lavelle Road is an absolute delight for Japanese cuisine enthusiasts. The ambiance is serene and elegant, setting the stage for an authentic dining experience. Their sushi and sashimi are exceptionally fresh, and the tempura is light and crispy. The attentive staff and a well-curated menu make every visit memorable. A must-visit for anyone craving the flavors of Japan in the heart of Bangalore!

Well to Start off with , it was a surprise to see a Japanese theme restaurant, I liked the back entry as it felt like going in to a underground Japanese restaurant. Anyways the food is brilliant & authentic Japanese taste. The Sashimi platter was brilliant, the seafood salad was good too , except for crab sticks. The Yakitori Chicken was brilliant & the chicken cud have been more tender, then the Spicy Korean Ramen was really good so was the Japanese Pork & Seafood Ramen. Definitely going to visit again & try rest of the Menu. The only place it need a betterment is the cleanliness, the condition of the furniture was poorly maintained & the table Mats where very dirty & had blackened edges. Also the staff needs to interact with the first time customer to guide them on the menu. I absorbed that on the adjacent table , where the young couple had no clue what what to order. The Japanese chef there seems to be interested in only Japanese clientele feeds back & disregards Local clients. Over all like I said one off the really authentic Japanese restaurant in town.

Came here after a long time, must say it left me disappointed. My uncooked cold soba was the worse of all, even at japan railway stations you get the best ones how can you possibly go wrong with such a simple dish? Sashimi with red onions. And the miso Ramen was watered down with no miso flavour.
Archana Mittal
We were served Shashimi with red onions which is unheard of. The sushi rolls were falling apart. A total rip off!!

One of my favorite restaurants in Bangalore. Serving the best Japanese cuisines. So visiting it during my Bangalore trip was must. The ambiance is really great went there with my cousins and had a really amazing time. The staffs are very friendly as well as very patient they listened to every demands of us.

Now coming to the food that was amazing Matsuri never disappoints!

We had-

~Miso soup:

Price-180+tax

Taste-4.5

Wanted to try just plain miso soup for a long time so ended up ordering it this time. It tasted good had a clean taste according to my liking.

~Goya Champuru:

Price-380+tax

Taste-4.4

it was totally a new dish to me. Made with succulent pork pieces , eggs , tofu , vegetables and most importantly bitter melon , which gave it a bitter taste but not too bitter taste which overpowers the other tastes!

~Yakitori Shio/ Tare N

Price-560+tax

Taste-4.7

Yakitori is one of my favorite Japanese dishes . Tasted as always. the chicken was tender and was glazed with sweet sauce.

~Miso Ramen

Price-700+tax

Taste-5

Ramen is all time favorite dish of mine so visiting a Japanese restaurent and ordering this is a must. The ramen I had there was my favorite ramen i have tried till now. We specially told the chef to prepare this for us and they gladly heard our request. The noodles which was in the ramen was hand pulled which makes it unique from others. The pork pieces which were inside it was so much flavorful also the egg tasted good.

~Tokusen Sushi Moriawase

Price-1080+tax

taste-4.6

This was an assorted sushi platter, consisting vegetable , crab , prawn , salmon , tuna sushi. It says sushi is something for which the taste needs time to develop and i agree with that and i am on the path of that. All the sushi were fresh.

At the last I will say if you like Japanese food and you are in Bangalore do visit Matsuri , it won't disappoint!
HM
The food tastes really well. The tempura's batter was of the right consistency. The chicken katsu was cooked just right. It could have used some seasoning though. The yakitori was a disappointment though. The chicken was tough. The udon curry was huge and delicious. The soba ramen was great too. Salmon rolls were tasty, with a thinly wrapped seaweed. I didn't like the extra mayo on matsuri special sushi though. The sauce was too overpowering.
Definitely worth a visit.

I'm very disappointed from the service. Food is okay. But the servers are not helping at all, while eating food fall on me, instead of helping they are laughing at me,and till we didn't finish they didn't give a tissue paper also. Not only that the very basic they didn't asked for water . They spoil my evening.
Visited Matsuri this afternoon for lunch. First disappointment was that there was no Sake(Cannot imagine a Japanese restaurant not serving sake 😢).
Second I checked with the server if they have salmon toro(belly portion of Salmon)and the straight answer was No. I asked him if he knew what Toro was and he was clueless and admitted he did not know. so I asked him to check with the chef and he too did not know what Toro was which was surprising again. I ordered the sushi lunch and the nigiri served was disappointing. Ambience was nice but too much of kitchen noises and discussions were audible in the dining area. Overall was disappointed with the food but Otherwise the service was good and they made a nice Margarita. but if I were to compare Japanese restaurants then Matsuri does not even come close to Yataii and Kaze.

I have eaten at many Japanese restaurants in Bangalore, and this is by far the best, even better than Shiro. Their Sushi and Sashimi platter is awesome x and so is their udon. The tempura was not crisp when I went, though, but inconsequential compared to the postitives

If sushi is something you like, this is the place to be. Simple stuff make with perfection. This place serves some super Comforting Japanese food. A little improvement in service would be nice as someone who is not familiar to the cuisine might need a little more attention and guidance. Overall, it’s a must try.

As comforting as the food back in Nippon, so warm and the atmosphere was just like Japan. Our family loved it. I totally recommended this to people who crave Japanese food or if you want an experience.
Really amazing experience..first time went for Japanese cuisine...loved the food..squid rings were the best...also sushi rolls with egg and soy sauce was different but very welcoming experience...hospitality of the waiters deserved 5 out of 5...did not see any cons regarding the restaurant..had a really nice experience 😍

Taste of food: 4.5/5
Service: 1/5

We had the Salmon Sushi, Prawn Tempura, Teriyaki Yakizakana (grilled fish in teriyaki sauce), Sashimi platter (salmon, tuna & squid) and the Teriyaki Chicken Rice bowl. And loved everything we ordered.

Really disappointed with the service though. The server didn't know anything about the dishes or their quantity. She offered to give us just prawn tempura instead of a mix of vegetables and prawn tempura - which we agreed to. Only to see an increase of Rs. 400 on our bill. A similar thing happened with the Sushi too!

The drinks however were a major let down! Both the Coke Highball & Long Island Iced Tea where just watered down versions of coke, no alcohol at all. And our menu didn't even have the updated prices - another fact our server didn't inform us of. So an unpleasant surprise when we saw the bill.

Overall, go for their authentic food but know what you want, don't expect any help or suggestions from the servers. And confirm prices when ordering to avoid surprises on the bill.

I had visited and ordered Curry udon, Tempura, Gyoza & Yakitori. There is no Ramen noodle. Food was good but spoil service. My friend ordered Hi-Ball but this was no bubble. I asked FnB staff, but she didn’t take any care....

The most of food was ok, I enjoyed it. but I would like to mention here for serious points to be improved. It’s a service.

I pointed out that coke-highball was too less gas however i was not given enough explanation and not replaced. Even it was not checked at all.

Also, When I had Curry Udon, the cling film was found from my mouth. I was almost swallowing it...

the accident itself may happen, however nobody responsable person came to us apologize sincerely. Just they said that the order was cancelled.

Nice Japanese restaurant in the heart of B'lore. The Futo Maki Sushi with Wasabi, Ebi tempura, Kake Udon,
Not easy to remember the names...but taste will be remembered

Cannot be called a Japanese restaurant. The Battered fried calamari looked and tasted like Bhaji. The chicken Yakitori is the worst I have eaten till date, it was hard, absolutely no flavour and not at all fresh, it was not edible. Didn’t venture to order the main course. If you have been to Tokyo and want a similar experience please avoid this like the plague.

The staff were absolutely clueless what each of the dishes were let alone the ingredients. Bunch of contract labour with zero knowledge or etiquette befitting the standards of Japanese restaurant.

Please don’t go buy the 4.5 rating on Zomato.

Lastly the restaurant refused to offer many of the higher priced cocktails on the menu as part of Zomato Gold offer claiming that Bacardi or some other ingredients was not in stock. Go figure.

Place for traditional Japanese cuisine(dishes not Indianised ) . They do not charge service charges like many restaurants in Bangalore , speaks about their values and compliance to law.

I can said after went to many Japanese restaurants the Maturi is the best for me. The price is not too high compare to the foods they gave to us. And it very tasty. I will go again soon.

Beautiful legacy business hotel, centrally nestled in the lap of middle Bangalore amidst all the green grace around it. And on top of that, a well chosen Japanese name in a not-so-Japanese setting.

Unfortunately though none of this makes the food worth your time, money, effort, or patience.

The Japanese food, of which we had ordered quite a bit, was unbearably bad as if someone was trying to learn hellish cooking at the expense of its beguiled customers who apparently fell for the trap. The salmon sushi, the tuna sushi, the smoked salmon, the okra, the sesame spinach were all one worse than the other - as if the cook was increasingly trying to test our palette’s patience and our bodies ability to give up on craftily prepared yet agonisingly bad food.

To top all of it, the entire staff is clearly uninvested by the hotel management, untrained, and has no clue about anything - minus two random bad shouts, one when you enter the restaurant and one when you exit. The staff has no idea about what’s on the menu and what’s not - the menu itself has 4 or 5 divisions, which seem like they have been done by a class 5 kid in his crafts class without adult supervision. As if all this wasn’t bad enough, forget food, even the water came 30 mins late after two people screaming thrice separately.

If there was one way to kill your appetite for Japanese food, or human food in general, please try the place. Or may be you want to take revenge on somebody and that somebody happens to be Japanese. In all other scenarios, skip the place.

One wonders why the little man and the fat boy weren’t dropped on Matsuri.

I can't help but feel let down considering I came here based on a 4.5 rating, the sushi isn't fresh in my opinion. Steer clear. The katsu was great. The service was a little uncomfortable.

Matsuri is a nice but expensive place to have Japanese cuisine. We tried a variety of their sushis and found that they were okay. We also had the maguro no sashimi. The portions are little less given the price of each dish. We also had the Ebi Tempura Udon and the Teppan Yaki Udon. The former was a little too sweet. The latter was excellent. The place has a nice ambience and the staff were prompt and courteous. Matsuri would be a great place if it were not so expensive.

Nice place to have some good japanese food. But it seems they cater mostly to japanese only. Only thing the restaurant needs to do it even better is to make the stewards/stewardess help indians with the menu as we do not understand what is what in japanese except for a few things. I tried hard to make the stewards and stewardess help me make a choice but mostly in vain.. finally i had to see what named good and brought them out ,., but kudos to the chef as food was tasty...

Nestled inside chancery hotel lies this hidden gem. Matsuri in Japanese means celebration and this place lives up to its name. The decor is quaint yet subtle and the food is a celebration of flavours.

We started with some appetizers

Fist came the 'Hourensou goma-ae' which is spinach and a dressing of sesame.I loved the texture and it was very novel.
This was followed by the 'Dashimaki tamago' which is a fluffy sweetened omelette rolls cut into pieces. This was really yummy and polished off in minutes.
Next came the 'Nikunja' which is a sweet beef stew with diced potato pieces. The meat was cooked perfectly and this can be a meal itself.

We then decided on trying out some of the pan fried specialties.
'Tori no karaage / Ika no Karaage'- Chicken/Squid Fry in Japanese style respectively. Both of these had a burst of flavour.
'Tempura no moriawase' - Butter fried prawns.

How can Japanese food be complete without the humble 'Sushi'.
We ordered for a platter so that we could try a mix of all that they had to offer.
It was an assortment of Maki and Nigiris. There was Tuna, salmon, cuttlefish, and prawn.

For mains we ordered the
'Gyu Steak' - Japanese style beef steak ,the meat is cut into strips. This was insane. The meat was succulent and smokey and perfectly cooked. My dish of the day.
'Yakizakana Teriyaki' - Grilled Salmon topped with sweet soya sauce. A must try for any one visiting Matsuri.
In noodles we tried the 'Teppan yaki udon' -Fried udon noodles with pork and vegetables & 'Ebi tempura udon' -udon noodles soup served with batter fried prawns.

For dessert we wanted to keep it simple and ordered for some vanilla ice cream. It was very creamy and had hint of coconut infused.

This was a dinner i will cherish forever, everything from the experience to the ambiance and definitely the food was top notch.

Matsuri is a festival. A festival to celebrate with some scrumptious authentic Japanese food. A part of Chancery Hotels chain, this place offers rustic and entrenched decor with some credible Japanese food.

*Ambience*
The place opens up into a small gallery with open bottles and ferry lights used as decor. Comfortable seating and service on point.

*Food Saga*
Starting our drinks with a respective choice of red and white wine, we straight dig into the food.

⏺Hourensou goma -ae
A small dressing made of spinach and sesame seeds. I visited this place with a group of friends for a Thursday dinner. If you are craving for some Japanese food, this is the place for you. We started with some red and white wine after which we went ahead and ordered the food. My favorite appetizer was Dashimaki Tamago which is sliced sweetened rolled omelette. I was trying beef for the first time so was a bit skeptical about it but this dish called Nikujaga which was a stewed beef made me feel good. We had Tori na karaage and Ika na karaage which are Japanese fried chicken and squid rings respectively, equally amazing like their name.😋 Not to miss tempura, i.e., batter fried prawns were yummy.

Moving ahead towards the main course we had chicken nanban and beef steak which made us drool just by their look. Being at a Japanese restaurant and not having sushi is such an injustice so we ordered one sushi platter and we couldn't get enough of it so called for another one. Now I ordered my ever favorite dish here, yes it was Teppan yaki udon, i.e., friend udon noodles with pork and vegetables. I love noodles and this was so delicious that even after having so much food, I couldn't resist eating handful of it. Finally ended it with a vanilla ice cream as a dessert. Visit your self to tell me if relished the taste.

Matsuri is a Japanese 🏯 word for a festival. This restaurant is a part of The Chancery hotels which dishes out absolutely authentic Japanese food. This amazing restaurant sits in Shantala nagar, Lavelle road.

The ambience is pleasant with wooden decors and it reminds me of typical Japanese style. The staff are very courteous and they can speak Japanese too. To be candid, except sushi and tempura I have never tried any Japanese dishes before. After having a look at their menu, I was super excited to indulge in the flavours of Japan.

What we ordered? 🥘🍲🥗🍜🍝

Appetizers 🥘:

👉Hourensou goma -ae:
This is a simple appetizer with 2 ingredients namely fresh spinach and sesame dressing. It tastes good but Little raw.

👉Dashimaki tamago :
This is one of my favourites overthere. It deceivingly looks like a cake but it is a sweetened rolled omelette. Dashi is a cooking stock used in Japanese cuisine. The rolled omelette tastes delicious it has got sweet flavour along with the flavour of soya sauce and dashi.

👉Tempura no mariawase :
One of the familiar and classic dishes of Japan! The prawns are battered, fried deeply and served with soya sauce. It is crispy and tasty.

👉Nikujaga :
It is a beef stew which comprises of vegetables like onion, Potato 🍠, carrot and spring onions. The portion of the beef is little less but the broth is infused with beef flavour. This stew is absolutely worth trying.

👉Ika no karage :
This fried squid rings are crunchy and delicious. It goes really well with drinks.

👉Tori no karage :
Boneless chicken fried to golden perfection accompanied by some greens. The chicken is tender and well-cooked.

Main course 🍲🥗🍜🍝:

👉Gyu steak :
This pan fried beef steak is super tender and Insanely delicious in terms of taste 😍❤.The meat 🍖 used is
of excellent quality and fresh. Instead of describing it's taste, I would rather prefer to suggest you to taste it.

👉Chicken nanban :
It basically chicken fried with vinegar and tartare sauce. It is good in terms of taste and quantity.

👉Sushi 🍣 mariawase :
Here comes the sushi platter with various varities of sushis. It comprises of tofu (Veg sushi), fish sushi and chicken sushi. The vinegar flavoured rice used in sushi is great in taste. Try out their sushi with wasabi -ae and soyasauce, you will just love it 😍.

👉Teppan yaki udon :
Udon is a type of Japanese noodle made up of wheat flour. The noodles are less oily and level of spice is normal. The pork in the noodles is so tender and delectable in taste.

👉Yakizakhana Teriyaki :
If you are a salmon fanatic, then it is a must try. The salmon is tender, juicy and delicious in taste.

Overall, it was a magnificent experience with their food and ambience. As the name (Matsuri) implies it was truly a food festival. Do pay a visit to indulge in their Japanese dishes.

A Japanese restaurant owned by a Japanese hotel serving up a truly authentic experience, Matsuri is a place perfect for those seeking immersion into Japan flavours.
Just order Sushi Moriawase (Special mixed sushi platter), Gyu Steak (Beef steak), Yakizakana Teriyaki (Grilled fish with sweetened soya sauce) with some good wine or Asahi (Japanese Beer) and your evening is sorted 😍
💁🏻‍♀️Vegetarians you can skip this place ( very less veg options) 💁🏻
.
Detailed Review:

•Where??🛣
Nestled in Hotel Chancery, the ambience of this restaurant is simple and unobtrusive. Their use of wood in its many forms lends to a minimalist atmosphere leaving all the attention on the food, true to their motto of “eating with your eyes”.

•Famous For??✨
1. Classic Japanese Flavours
2. Extensive cocktail varieties

💁🏻Love that they offer a range of traditional Japanese dishes that go beyond just sushi. Think Udon noodles and Japanese curries. This carefully-crafted menu has a big selection of dishes to choose from, so don’t be afraid to ask your server for some help.

•Kick-starting with Starters🤤
1. Tori no Karaage: chicken crumb fried in potato starch which is as succulent as it is crispy. Must Must Have.
2. Tempura no Moriawase: batter fried prawns with vegetables. The tempura’s light batter and crispness were perfect on the palate. But as taste is subjective, my other friends didn’t like it much. So u can skip ordering this.
3. Ika no Karaage: basically it’s fried squid rings. It was very oily and greasy.
4. Dashimaki Tamago: Another dish which took my tongue to wonderland. It is a sliced sweetened rolled omlette which was so smooth, creamy. Melts in your mouth kinda feeling you get.
5. Nikujaga: Stewed beef & potato in sweetened soya sauce. If you don’t have sweet palate, do not order. The portions of beef is also less in the stew, but the quality of beef used in this restaurant is Next Level. #Impressed
6. Sushi Moriawase: special mixed sushi platter.
Heaven on a plate, creamy, smooth, fresh, yet slightly crunchy with oodles of flavour bombs, textures and absolutely divine yumminess embedded in every gobble of #sushi. 🍣🍤🍱

•Time to dig in to real deal: Main Course🍛🍲
1. Gyu Steak and 2. Yakizakana Teriyaki : I vouch all my foodie experience over these 2 absolutely delish dishes. Totally won my heart and made me order for more even though I was so fullllll.
3. Chicken Nanban: It’s a decent choice to order if you don’t eat beef or pork. But I found it mediocre, nothing great.
4. Noodles: Order any and they will not fail you. My personal favourite Teppan Yaki Udon 🍜

•Sweet-toothed Followers, Dessert Time
I was so full that I couldn’t try the dessert. Will update on my next visit because I am surely revisiting.
But I have heard their wasabi ice cream is worth trying.

•Serve Serve Serve
The staff here knows the Japanese customs well and is soft spoken. Kudos to the team for a great experience.

•TummyTumms Scoreboard
Taste: 4.2/5
Ambience: 3.8/5
Service: 4/5
Value For Money: 4.2/5

Matsuri, a speciality Japanese restaurant which is located inside The Chancery Hotel is one of the few places to serve authentic Japanese food in Bangalore. I visited this restaurant with my friends on an evening for a get-together. This place blew my mind away with its beautiful ambience. It matches the Japanese theme very well. Even they have a small section for Japanese magazines and books and you can get English ones as well to read.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:
We ordered a lot of food items being in a group. Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun has always fascinated my travel as well as culinary senses. If you are someone like me who loves to eat and enjoys exploring food, culture, and culinary traditions then Japan should be at the top of your travel bucket list. . Thanks to having numerous Japanese clients over the years, I have tried some of the Japanese restaurants across Bangalore and have learnt a lot just interacting with them over the years.

One of the authentic Japanese restaurant in Bangalore, they serve some quintessential food and it's truly heavenly.
They also have a full range bar menu to accompany some great food, so it's a one stop place for sumptuous dining experience.

We started with some appetizers,
•Hourensou Goma-ae: Steamed Spinach with sesame dressing, slightly on a sweeter side, with rich peanut butter flavour, very well cooked and quite authentic to cherish. Every bite was soo rich and refreshing, left me craving for more. Highly recommend this dish.

•Dashimaki Tamago: These are sliced sweetened rolled omelette, very soft and fluffy, feels like a cake. It's just the normal omelette but the preparation is Japanese style, for egg lovers, this is a feast.

•Tori no karaage: Japanese style deep fried chicken, slightly on a bland side, but nothing great or Japanese abt it, it was slightly oily but definitely edible.

•Ika no karaage: Deep fried squid rings, very delicious and quite good portion size. The squids were cooked with a tasty batter which made it even more amazing.

Tip: Tasted best with a glass of whisky sour as a companion.

•Tempura no moriawase: Batter fried prawns and vegetables which includes babycorn, capsicum and Tofu. The best amongst all were definitely prawns, long crispy and juicy, superb dish and highly recommend here.

For the Main Course,

•Yasai Itame: Stir fried vegetables which included cabbage, carrot, capsicum, Onion and few more veggies. It has a nice dressing with smoky flavour, looked very basic, but very rich in taste! All the veggies were crunchy and extremely fresh. My personal favourite vegetarian dish here.

•Tofu No teriyaki: Grilled Tofu with sweetened soya sauce, had a very strong flavour which was overshadowing the tofu taste, tasted very normal and nothing great to mention abt this dish!

•Yakizakana teriyaki: Grilled salmon fish with teriyaki sauce, was totally lip smacking. The salmon slightly has a crispy texture on the outside and juicy from inside, the salmon complimented the teriyaki sauce very well and a must try dish here.

After these, it was time for some sushi,

•Sushi Moriawase: This was a mix platter of some exotic suchi, we had some crab, salmon, tuna and cucumber. The best amounts all were the salmon, very authentic and well made with the right proportion of ingredients. Superb taste and presentation. Totally worth coming to this place just for the sushi.

The next dish to grace our table was some Noodles,

•Yakisoba: Japanese style stir fried noodles with vegetable brown sauce, this is just the regular noodles which most of us would have had, but was definitely made very well, nothing unique to expect out of this dish.

Finally we ended our meal with some Japanese dessert,

•Dorayaki pancake with ice cream: A very unique combination of pancake and bean-jam, surprisingly it tasted fantastic and complimented the ice cream very well. A unique dessert I must say, and the best way to end in Japanese style.

Taste 5/5
Service 5/5
Pricing 4/5
Cleanliness 5/5
Platting 4/5
Ambience 4/5

I am neither new to Japanese Cuisine nor new to MATSURI THE CHANCERY My perception about Japanese Cuisine was totally altered through my many visits to Matsuri in a good way. The excellent food beyond Sushi & Sashimi is something that I have discovered here in Matsuri.

On a more recent visit as a part of the Special Influencers Table reassured my trust in Matsuri serving excellent Japanese Cuisine and their even better service which they are known for.

Our first course was kick started with Dashimaki Tamago, the most famous Japanese omelette. This
Sweetened & Rolled Omelette was absolutely delicious.

Tamagoyaki (卵焼き or 玉子焼き, literally "grilled egg") is a type of Japanese omelette, which is made by rolling together several layers of cooked egg. These are usually prepared in a rectangular omelette pan called a makiyakinabe. There are several types of tamagoyaki, including the version that we tried here, the Dashimaki Tamago which adds dashi to the egg mix, and served with a tiny side of finely shredded Radish.

Next we had the ever famous Japanese Fried Chicken, Tori No Karaage. This Japanese version of Fried Chicken was a part of our second course. Karaage (唐揚げ or 空揚げ or から揚げ, [kaɾaaɡe]) is a Japanese cooking technique in which various foods, mostly chicken , is deep fried in oil. It could be usually leg marinated in soy and sake before frying, served with a wonderful side of mayonnaise & lemon. Though it’s very similar to our main, the Chicken Nanban, this one was unique & had a wonderful Crunch to the super moist chicken that was marinated well.

For our third course, we had the Tempura No Moriawase, with Prawns & Veggies. This Japanese Tempura Prawns & Vegetables Were The Best You Could Find In Namma Bengaluru.

Tempura (天ぷらor天麩羅 tenpura, [tẽ̞mpɯᵝra]) is Japanese dish usually consisting of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. The dish was influenced by fritter-cooking techniques introduced by Portuguese residing in Nagasaki in the 16th century, and the name "Tempura" relates to that origin. There is a lot that can go wrong with a tempura, it could be heavy dripping with oil, the veggies losing their character, the meat not cooking properly. But not here in Matsuri, the dish was perfectly cooked, with no residue oil, crispy, meat cooked throughly, the okra retaining its flavour with a crisp outside & a well cooked inside. I could have this, everyday, throughout the day.

The Sushi here was beautifully made, I loved the Salmon Sushi as compared to the Tuna ones, as they were sliced a little too thick. The freshness of the fish is something that speaks for itself out here at Matsuri. The Maki rolls too were wonderfully made.

For the mains I enjoyed the Chicken Nanban, Teppan Yaki Udon & Stir Fried Veggies. This Fried Chicken Karaage Style is prepared with a light string coating of starch, soaked in sweet and sour nanban sauce. While it’s hard to go wrong with marinated fried chicken, the crisp, fluffy tendrils of egg coating the chicken are what make the dish so magical. Like a meringue, the egg makes an incredibly light batter that’s both adept at soaking up the nanban sauce while disappearing into a pool of flavor as the strands of egg dissolve in your mouth. Topped with a chunky lemon tartar sauce, the contrast of tastes and textures is sublime. Here in Matsuri, it’s done perfectly enjoyed every bit of it, a perfect main course to make your meal complete.

The accompanied Yasai Itame or simply Stir Fry Vegetables is a common side dish in Japan and was made just right here in Matsuri. Like most stir fries there are not set ingredients to use in making one, usually whatever is available on the vegetable bin goes into the pan. This dish is one of the Japanese dishes that was inherited from China like the Chahan, Subuta and Gyoza.

As a final to the mains, I had the Teppan Yaki Udon, this Stir Fried Noodles just made my day. It was the most perfect south East Asian dish I have had in a very long time, & most importantly in Bengaluru. A perfect stir fry with an array of veggies & beautifully cooked meat, tasty udon, just fabulous.

After savouring such a large variety of excellent courses, the end has to be perfect as well. The final course of the Doriyaki Pancake with the red bean stuffing, served alongside a delicious vanilla Icecream was the perfect end to an already way too perfect meal. The cute cutlery elevated the dish to slight heights.

I must mention the impeccable service, which Matsuri should be very proud of, for educating & training the staff so well, as good food can become great only when paired with excellent service. Five Stars for the Food & the Service in a minimalist Decor. A great Japanese fine dining experience perfectly delivered here at Matsuri.

I understand Sushi is working class food in Japan but I have endless love for Sushi all the same. It’s a meal that’s truly satisfying but sadly in Bangalore there are only a handful of places that get it right and Matsuri is one of them.
We had dinner here on a weekday and decided to venture out on more than just Sushi.
Some of my favourites of the evening that I would highly recommend are;
Tofu no teriyaki:
I don’t really opt for Tofu often but i’m so glad I did on this day as the dish was a big hit and the Tofu was cooked and tasted perfect.
Hourensou goma-ae:
My star dish of the evening, I could make an entire meal out of this. I can’t recommend this dish enough it’s something you just have to try if you like Spinach and a flavourful peanut sauce.
Ika no Karaage:
Another dish I couldn’t get enough off , the calamari rings were fried to absolute perfect and tasted brilliant.
Tempura no moriawase:
While I didn’t enjoy the vegetables as much but the Tempura prawns were excellent, crisp yet juicy and so light.
Sushi moriawase:
Macro sized sushi platter, the portions are very generous and with a good mix of things, got to try many varieties wish I had saved more space. The dish is very filling so ensure you either just order this or leave ample space for this dish.
Teppan Yaki Udon:
A comforting noodle dish that reminds you of street food but with a classy twist.
Dorayaki Pancake with ice cream: good end to a nice meal.
Matsuri is more than just Sushi, it offers so many authentic Japanese dishes in a good ambiance and prompt service.

Japanese specialty restaurant!
This place is located at the chancery hotel in lavelle road. Preety easy to locate.
The restaurant has a separate entrance and serves with a aim of catering the Japanese food lovers.
Those who aren't much into Japanese cuisine must think twice before making a visit here, the food is high on authentic flavours which might not suit everyone's palate.
I visited this place with a group of friends on a weekday evening
The place had a very neat ambience not too good and not tooo bad.
The pricing for the dishes here is reasonably better compared to other Japanese restaurants.
Here is the dishes I recommend here.

1) miso soup : contains a very high hint of sea weed. The flavours wer not appreciated by my other friends but I found it authentic and nice.

2) dashimaki tamago: sweet rolled omelette served with raddish dip. The sweetness of the omelette was very well balanced with the pungency of the raddish

3) nikujaga: mixed vegetables with beefstew. This was a showstopper of the day. Loved the stock .the boiled veggies and the beef which was perfectly cooked. Also I would suggest them to put extra stock on their servings coz it was so damn good.

4) tori no karaage: crumb fried chicken, resembles more like the kfc chicken out there.tastes preety much same too.

5) ika no karaage: batter fried squid rings, must must try here. The squid was fresh on the inside and crisp on the outside.

6) tempura no moriawase: fried prawns and veggies.nailed the dish.was served with soya dip which was a little too diluted, I would enjoy this a little more if the dip was a a bit viscous.

7) yasai itame: stir fried veggies, the Japanese like it with a portion of rice.

8) tofu no teriyaki: succulent pieces of tofu tossed in swest soya sauce.

9) gyu steak: medium Rare cooked beef steak to perfection! Loved the marination and presentation and do not miss this dish especially if you are a beef lover.

10) sushi moriawase: sushi and sashimi platter , I'm not a sushi person as such, but my sushi loving friends enjoyed this dish.

For the main course we had

1) tepan yaki udon: Japanese wheat noodles tossed in mild sauces .

After all this we went for the dessert of the day
*** dorayaki pancake with ice cream***
Bean jam fluffy pancakes served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.I enjoyed this dessert.

The service is prompt and polite.
Purely Japanese!

While Sushi and Sashimi rule the roost of global overview of the Japanese cuisine, Matsuri has brought out the finer nuances of this exquisite culture. Situated at the Chancery Hotel, this restaurant has a beautiful entrance and ample parking space. The decor is an elegant mix of softwood and paper in line with Japanese culture.
We started with the Spinach in sesame dressing and Japanese rolled omelet. Both were very good and like nothing I have had before. The squid rings and fried chicken were simple and perfectly cooked. I have to say the style of cooking brings out the taste of the ingredients. We went ahead with the tempura prawns and vegetables. The vegetables were very good in tempura. Prawns were a delight. One of our friends recommended the beef soup. This was my dish of the day. Simple and yet so delicious. Not only did I like the meat but the vegetables were very good in the soup. Had to try the Miso soup as well. And was it delicious!
The most popular Japanese food - Sushi had to be enjoyed with good soya sauce and Wasabi with ginger slices. There is nothing more delightful than fresh cut fish intricately carved and served on little portions. We did enjoy a Sushi platter and it was top notch!
Tofu is used extensively in Far Eastern cuisines. We tried the Tofu no Teriyaki. Quite good. We tried the Salmon Teriyaki as well. I felt the salmon should be a bit softer. But the sauce was amazing. Do try the Teppanyaki Udon noodles with pork and vegetables.
For dessert we had to have something with red bean paste. Had the Dorayaki Pancake with ice cream which turned out to lovely combination. A nice hot Macha tea to top it off.

🎎Konnichiwa🎎

Matsuri is a Japanese fine dining restaurant located inside the Chancery Hotel on Lavelle Road. The literal translation of the word 'Matsuri' is festival or holiday in Japanese.

🎌AMBIANCE & FOOD

Peaceful simplicity is what would best describe the ambiance. I was truly in admiration of the subtlety of the decor; simple yet so chic. Japanese culture swears by minimalism which also translates into their interior designs. Wooden furnishings, tall ceilings, large sliding doors with partition, Bonsai & Bamboo plants, Origami artworks, Taiko drums are few examples of the Japanese influence in the ambiance. The tables are well spaced out and they even have private chambers for larger groups for an uninterrupted and private dining experience. They provide a bell in the table through which the staff can be reached for services.

Coming to the food, the menu is quite extensive covering popular Japanese delicacies. Being a part of the reviewer's table, we had a preset menu; veg and non veg inclusive, although I whole heartedly concentrated on the latter. We started off with the Dashimaki Tamago (Japanese Sweetened Omlette) before moving onto the Sushi & Tempura fanfare. From the wide array of dishes here's what I enjoyed the most in order of preference:

⏺️Nikujaga (Stewed Beef and Potato in sweetened Soya sauce) #musthave
⏺️Gyu Steak (Beef Steak) #dontmiss
⏺️Yakizakana Teriyaki (Grilled fish with sweetened Soya sauce)
⏺️Udon Noodles
⏺️Tempura no moriawase (Battered fried prawns and vegetables)

For me, the star of the evening would be the Nikujaga & the Gyu Steak. Both the items were unbeatable espcially the beef stew. The broth in particular was extremely flavorful; a perfect match in this weather. The meat was of great quality and didn't taste too chewy. It had a very pleasant aftertaste of sweetened soy on the palette. The grilled salmon also had the similar sweetened soy dressing and tasted heavenly. In the main course, my heart went out for the Udon, both the fried and the soupy one. My previous experience with Udon hadn't been very pleasant. Luckily here the preparation was bang on. Udon Noodles are made of buckwheat and they taste different from the regular counterparts. The flavour of fish sauce was adding to the flavours. The tempura and the sushis were decent enough. I wouldnt say extraordinary. I preferred the Nigiris to the Makis. The Makis in particular were a bit bigger in size compared to what I've usually had. They looked more like Kimbaps (Korean Sushis). I was terribly excited to try the traditional Miso soup but sadly it dint quite live up to the expectations. I guess the aroma of the fermented soyabean was way too strong for my liking. The fried preparations of chicken & squid namely Tori no Karage, Chicken Nanban & Iko no Karage were pretty average like the regular fried versions, couldn't really find any Japanese speciality in them. For the desserts I wanted to try the Wasabi Ice cream but had to settle for the Dorayaki Pancake. This is another Japanese novelty having kidney bean stuffing inside a pancake. Not sure if it would still taste good without the ice cream. Last but not the least we had a steaming cup of Matcha tea after of our meal which felt extremely soothing.

💰SERVICE & VFM

Japanese restaraunts are known for their warm service and this place was no different. It got a bit slow in parts but overall cordial. Pricing wise Japanese cuisine is usually on the higher side, a meal for two would come somwhere around 2000 - 2500/-.

Overall, an evening spent well. Thanks to the team for the hospitality.😊

🎎Mata Ne🎎

To sum this one up - Palatable jap food with a rather sober and boring ambience!
Place was quite dead on a Friday night. Sushi rolls were decent. The highlight was the pork stir fry & the teriyaki tofu. Not sure if we will return as the place doesn’t offer a great mix of drinks n food. Go with a large group to creat your own fun :)

Food - 4.5/5
Authenticity- 5/5
Ambience- 4.5/5
Service -4.5/5 ( Good knowledge of food and drink)
Price - 4/5 ( Would pinch you a bit, but for the authenticity I guess it's worth)
Hygiene- 4.5/5 ( They have a motorised commode which was interesting :P . It's actually much popular in Japan)
Parking - 5/5 ( Has valet parking and otherwise sufficient parking space as situated inside Chancery hotel)
Fire Safety- Could not visibly find alternate exit route. Restaurant is located in ground floor however.

I would base my review based on the food items that I had. Unfortunately I do not have much of the food which Japanese cuisine is famous for. But nevertheless for the dishes that I had, I could easily say that the dishes we made painstakingly in the most authentic manner and served well too.

Our ordeal started with blanched okra or "Okura No Wasabi Ae".

This dish seems to be a Japanese delicacy but as I said in the beginning there were many dishes which we are not very much used to having and maybe because of that we could not much relish or savour them.
Well few of them and this was one of them.
It was one of the most simple dish that was prepared. Okra or ladies finger where finally cut and tossed and some sauce and then served with a small serving of wasabi. Mainly because it was bit gooey we didn't like it much.

🥚🥚

We moved on to "Dashimaki Tamago" or slieced, rolled omelette. I am not perfectly sure about the preparation but it was a simple egg omelette made in a really different way. The omelette pieces where cut into 1 square inch and put on top of another and made into a cube which held together. It was big sweetish and little tangy in taste.

🥗🥗

We were supposed to have the omelette with blanched crackling spinach. Again here also there was a peculiarity and uniqueness of preparation which I found very rare and had for the first time.
Omelette and spinach combo went perfectly well and we relished it.

🍖🍖

"Nikujaga" or stewed beef and baby potato on sweetened soya sauce was great it seems. My friends really liked it. As I don't eat beef, can't really tell much of first hand experience.

🍗🍗

"Tori No KaraAge" the Japanese style fried chicken was very much like the KFC chicken that we get only with the touch of tamarind. Southeast Asian countries are very much habituated in having dry chicken with white rice, specifically white sticky rice with some sauce and this chicken would have really gone very well with that palette.
But I would not rate high among the other excellent stuff that we had.

🍴🍴

"Ika No KaraAge" was squid fry on above similar lines. Very dry and but specifically for a particular palette.

🥔🥔

"Fried potatoes" was decent and crunchy. Went perfectly with the light vodka cocktails that came in.

🍤🍤

"Tempura No Moriawase" the authentic batter fried tempura prawn was amazing. I could very well distinguish from the prawn tempura that I used to have in Chinese restaurants from one that was served here. Tempura batter was unadulterated and the coating was very thin and you could feel the prawn right on your tongue once you take the bite. The watery sauce served along was tangy and sweet and went perfectly well with the prawn tempura.

🍣🍣

"Sushi" is not something which is my cup of tea but still I tried the veg varieties and good taste the Seaweed being very fresh and the rice which was put in was right in quantity quality and wrapped really nice. My friends liked the Salmon sushi and the tuna Sushi and it seems the fish where very fresh and very nicely cut.

🍗🍗

"Teppan Teri Yaki chicken" , the subtle fried chicken preparation in soya sauce was done very well too. The sauce / gravy was not too strong not too watery and went very well with noodle that came in.

🍝🍝

"Yakisoba" , the vegetable stir fried noodles with brown sauce was a great preparation which went very along the chicken dish with soya sauce. The noodle has some specific Japanese elements which made the whole lot of difference.

🐟🐟

"Yakizakana Teriyaki" or fish cooked in soya sauce was amazing to have as well. The basa fish used was fresh like anything and made deluctably too.

"Japanese steam rice with chicken" was a bento box concept small bowl of rice and chicken. It was almost like soul food. The rice was so relaxing. The taste was so very nice. Chicken gravy was smooth and not too strong and very pleasing to have. The rice is it seems is procured from Japan.

"Buta no Shogayaki" or Japanese ginger pork and "Gyu Steak" or Beef steak was good it seems, but I however don't eat them. So sorry about that.

🍨🥞

"Doriyaki Pan cake with ice cream" was something which you don't eat everyday. It was served with bean sauce. Yea, bean sauce and the whole bean, the sweet sauce, pan cake and ice cream came together in a unique chord of its own. It was just like magic.

Our experience ended with a cup of matcha tea which was again something I had for first time and found it amazingly refreshing.

Though each of the food was good to excellent, what stands apart for this place is the authenticity in its dishes. And they use all items procured from Japan mostly. The preparation, Ambience , the service all together comes into a great experience of its own. This creates a lingering effect. Though honestly I am not a expert of Japanese food, I really loved the experience and the feeling.

For the experience and quality of authentic food, though price was tad high, I would say it's worth it.

They have a huge clientele of expat Japanese of some eminent organisation who are coming back here since years.

If you are a Japanese food fan, do check this place out.

Thanks to management for a chance to savour these unique experience and I am thankful for the kind invite.

All the best.

Visited this place for the second time today and we were left completely disappointed. We had loved it the first time we visited it for lunch. May be the lunch chef is better, in case they are different. The salad maki we ordered was tasteless and rhe nori seemed stale. The roll was too big to fit in the mouth, which meant eating it in two bites, ehich led to breaking the sushi. Plus the roll had too much rice and too little filling. Plus the menu showed 600 for 10 pieces, but we were charged 700 for 8. Badically, the menu has same entries multiple times for different prices.

The yasae itame was just wrong. It had more onion that any other vegetable. It tasted like raw onion and oil, no other taste.

The gyoza dumplings were almost inedible. They were so oily that oil spurted out when i picked them with the chopsticks. That and the oily smell put me off so i ended up not eating it.

The soba noodles in dashi broth fine and i enjoyed them moderstely. The spibach salad with bonito flakes was quite nice too.

All in all, i dont see myself visiting this place again. I spoke very highly of it to my sis who is visiting and got her here only to be disappointed.

Brilliant place, inside the chancery hotel, so locating it was bit harder. They should put up a big board or something because this restaurant deserves it. The sushi here was godlike. Quantity wise a bit too small but taste wise fantastic. Tried the gyu steak don which comes with a miso soup. Again brilliant in taste, quantity wise too much for one person to handle. Finished it off with Japanese pancakes...which kind of ruined the whole thing (hence 4/5) but they were really nice about it and didn't put it in my bill (very rare these days). Wanted to try the ramen but they were out of stock which is a bummer but the quality of the food will definitely make me come back for the ramen. The thing that stood out the most about them is that they are committed towards bringing authentic Japanese food. They could improve on the music front, the whole experience would be 10 times better if they played some soothing japanese instruments music in the background. Really want to come back and taste all the different varieties they offer. Mad props to the staff, who didn't charge for the not so good desert and the manager who asked me about my experience and was so passionate about providing great food experience. 10/10

Matsuri- Probably one of the only few places in Bangalore serving some authentic Japanese cuisine. It is a part of the Chancery chain of restaurants which includes a lot of fine dines, Star restaurants and pubs. Coming to Matsuri, it's one of a kind ambiance suiting the Japanese cuisine. The service is good but I would say they need to improve a little bit to be on par with the industry standards. The costing though is higher considering the fact that the ingredients are expensive, the location of the place and the richness in the ambiance. Let me tell you guys, the cuisine is very authentic and might not suit the Indian palette to be frank. So yes visit this place only if you are willing to try some new cuisine or if you a Japanese cuisine lover. I was pretty surprised that they had good amount of Vegetarian options as well. Coming to the food this is how it went,

🔶 Highlights of the place 🔶

▪️ Authentic Japanese cuisine
▪️ Pretty rich Ambiance.
▪️ Budgets on the higher side.
▪️ Good Vegetarian options

🔶 What I loved and would recommend?

🔸Hourensou Goma-ae: This was a very interesting dish, the boiled spinach marinated with some sesame dressing was special.
🔸Dashimaki Tamago: The sliced sweetened Omlette was probably onr on the most unique Omlettes I've had. Mixed very well with sweet chilli sauce.
🔸Tempura no moriawase: I've had Tempuras elsewhere, but this is something I would come back to Matsuri for.
🔸Tofu no Teriyaki: The grilled Tofu with sweetened Soya sauce is something you would remember for the perfection of the dish. The tofu extremely soft with the right balance of flavor, would love less oil though.

🔶 What I would ask them to improve?

🔸First up the service, it was a little slow and I would not expect this from a renowned restaurant like Matsuri. Its a small improvement I would like to suggest.
🔸 Probably have more desserts on the menu, I personally would love to try more Japanese dessets to be honest
🔸 Wasn't a fan of Okura no wasabi-ae. Probably induce some different flavor to make the dish suit the Indian taste buds

🔶 Other things I had with no complaints/compliments:

🔹Appetizers: Fried Potatoes, Sushi Moriawase
🔹 Main course: Yakisoba, Yasai Itàme
🔹Drinks: Sula Chenin Blanc wine, Martini

Overall a very interesting and new experience for me. Authentic Japanese is something I wanted to try and here is how I took the cuisine. Recommended to all Japanese lovers and foodies trying to get their hands on new cuisines .

🔺Ambiance: 4.5/5
🔺Food: 4/5
🔺Service&Staff: 4/5
🔺Value for money: 4/5

Not only the Japanese cuisine (和食, washoku) offers an lavish choice of gastronomical delights with a boundless variety of regional and seasonal dishes , it is also one of the only three in the world to be recognised by United Nations’s cultural organisation, UNESCO for its cultural significance. Bangalore has its own share of some good Japanese dining places, from stand alone restaurants to fine dining at 5 star hotels due to presence of good expatriate community from the region, who are here to work at numerous Japanese multinationals. The favourite among most of the Japanese populace in Bangalore is the MATSURI , situated at The Chancery at Lavelle road. Managed by one of the top Japanese automobile company, it is the place to savour truly authentic experience that will take you back to the land of rising sun.

“Matsuri in japanese means a solemn festival celebrated periodically at Shinto shrines in Japan.”

Talking about Japanese cuisine – it used to be always “Sushi” in my mind – until I visited Matsuri recently. Matsuri is part of the Chancery Hotel, in the heart of the city. The moment you enter, the subtle décor of this Japanese restaurant brought a sense of celebration – which can be linked back to the name. An individual goes to a place for the food or the ambience, this place can boast of both. I would also like to mention that the chef here is from Japan, and he made it a point to visit us at the dinner table and even helped me as I struggled to get the chopsticks right. Later, in this happy pursuit, I realized I missed the actual sushi’s.

Matsuri is a Japanese festival with a wide variety of civil and religious ceremonies in Japan more particularly the shrine festivals of Shinto.

Matsuri varies according to the shrine, the deity or sacred power Kami is worshipped in this festival

Matsuri at The Chancery hotel Lavelle road focuses in serving some palatable and authentic Japanese cuisine

Matsuri my first rate indulgence of Japanese cuisine.

Japanese cuisine offers an abundance of gastronomical delights with a boundless variety of regional and seasonal dishes as well as international cuisine

Recommendations:- Loved the Miso soup, Yakizakana teriyaki (Grilled fish with sweetened soya sauce),Seafood sushi deserves a special mention.

If you are in forage for some authentic Japanese food your search ends at Matsuri.

Ambiance -4/5

An uncomplicated place located in the ground floor of The Chancery Hotel Lavelle road.

Loved the minimalistic décor and was awestruck with the wooden décor and wine bottles arranged at the entrance of this place. The drum placed at the entrance adds up to the charm.

The best part they have private dining spaces for large and small groups.

They have bright lighting setup and kept the décor to be uncomplicated

Food – 4.5/5

Appetizers:

Hourensou goma-ae - Spinach leaves cooked well and topped with sesame dressing. Had a slightly sweet taste to it and is delicious.

Okura no wasabi-ae - This one is the blanched ladies finger with a light tinge of wasabi. The okra is raw and this one aint to my liking though.

Dashimaki Tamago – This is for the first time I had got to taste this dish and this has bowled me over. This is a sweetened rolled omelet. Finely cooked omelet rolls and with slight amount of sweetness added to it and tasted substantial

Pan Fried:

Tori no Karaage – This one is the Japanese fried chicken served with salad and mayo. Chicken chunks are cooked along with bread crumbs and deep fried. Chicken is juicy and cooked well remarkable one.

Ika no Karaage - The Japanese fried squid rings. Batter coated squid rings with minimal spices and then deep fried. We all loved it. The crunchy texture of the outer layer and the soft squid rings would for sure leave an eternal impact on ones palate.

Fried Potatoes - Fried potato wedges served along with mayo are simple yet good.

Tempura no moriawase – These are the batter fried prawns along with some vegetables. They are served with soya sauce as sides which is good.

Miso Soup this one is a traditional soup of japan which is made of Dashi ,dashi is a basic stock, made with dried bonito flakes, Miso soup is the main item in a Japanese breakfast or dinner. For sure a must try. Robust flavors that would hit your palate.

Sushi moriawase

We had the Sushi moriawase which is a mixed sushi platter.

In a word the Sushi in here is simply wow. These sushis are accompanied with pickled ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.

It is a hand-formed sushi with a topping of fresh seafood and vegetables. Exemplary example of fine skills.

Would recommend to one and all.

Noodles:

Yakisoba: Japanese style stir fried noodles with brown sauce. Loved this one and it is a fine balance of brown vegetable sauce along with veggies and chicken chunks stir fried with noodles. It is delicious.

Yakizakana Teriyaki - Grilled salmon mixed with sweet Soya sauce. The salmon fish cooked with soya sauce is a sheer piece of art and is a sure shot recco from my end when you are dining at Matsuri. We all loved this one and went for second serving

Tofu no Teriyaki – The grilled tofu could have been better, felt it is a bit bland and chewy -not to my liking though. The sweetened sauce used over it did the trick though.

Chicken Nanban - One of their signature dishes. Fried chicken with vinegar and tartar sauce served with veggies is a must try. The chicken is soft and succulent. Delicious is the word.

Dessert

Dorayaki pancake with ice cream - The pancake had a fluffy texture to it and the mango ice cream went really well with the pancake.

We all once again choose another round of serving to satiate our sweet tooth cravings.

Finally, we ended our dinner with the traditional green tea. Green tea is out and right refreshing.

Service -4/5

The staff are really polite and humble.

They make sure that they provide cutlery on time and take real good care of all things.

At times there is a delay in the orders placed. That I give it to them may be coz of the cooking time as each dish is curated to perfection and presented with utmost care, This is seen mainly when the Sushi platter arrived.

Chef has interacted with us personally and asked for our preferences and curated the food . This is a positive sign and I loved this gesture.

VFM -4/5

Good authentic Japanese fare amidst elementary dine in space.

Will come back for sure to try their Sushi and Green tea.

The prices are not too heavy on the pocket. Their service is really good and would assure a memorable dine in experience over some appetizing food.

Well, Japanese food is a lot more than only Sushi. And Matsuri proves that! Matsuri, is a solemn festival celebrated periodically at Shinto Shrines in Japan. And this place brings the festivities into light with its subtle decor and great grub affair. Located in the Chancery, this place is a Japanese food lover's retreat with the varieties they offer.

We started with the appetizers: Okura no Wasabi-ae which was blanched ladies finger in Wasabi flavor, Hourensou goma-ae which had spinach with sesame dressing and Dashimaki Tamago which was the best version of omelette I have ever had with a sweet tinge presented in the form of a roll. The Tori No Karaage which was Japanese fried chicken was yet again a delight with those Crispy and tender pieces creating a drama in the mouth. And yes, we also binged on some French fries!

The main course was a grand affair with the likes of sushis, noodles, grilled tofu and grilled fish! Tofu No Teriyaki which had grilled tofu with sweetened soya sauce was a delight! The Yakizakana teriyaki was the fish variant and was equally brilliant. The Sushi Moriawase was the sushi Platter which was the star of the evening! And yes, the noodles deserve a special mention as the Teppanyaki udon and Yakisoba won me over! The udon noodles were by far the best I have ever had with ample serving of pork and vegetables to go with it. The Yakisoba with that vegetable brown sauce and the perfectly stir fried noodles in Japanese style was yet again a winner.

Being the sweet tooth that I am, finished the meal with Dorayaki pancake with ice cream and yes, it was a treat to the taste buds!

The service was quite prompt and they do have a lot of varieties in the menu. Definitely dropping by soon to try more of their offerings!

The Chef as well as many diners in this restaurant are from the land of the rising sun.

Food- Fabulous Authentic Japanese Dishes. Fresh and Impeccable Quality ingredients. Impressive Presentation. Mocktail drinks are splendid and refreshing. Everything on the menu is exceptional and extraordinary. The starters were outstanding. My favorite were the brilliant Tempura prawns, 'Ika no karaage' which are squid rings and 'tori no karaage' which is chicken. Soft, juicy, crispy, Marinated well and deep fried to excite the palate. Tartare sauce served along with it was also delicious. The 'Dashimaki tamago' which is sliced sweetened cube shape omelette was remarkable. One of the best egg dishes Ive ever had. A vegetarian item that we couldn't stop munching on was the nicely seasoned was the fried potato.

The Gyu Beef Steak and Yakizakana Teriyaki which is salmon fish with seetened soya sauce was incredible. Perfectly grilled with an explosion of flavours. Highly recommended. I loved the fantastic traditional Japanese gravy with sticky rice. Right balance of taste, texture and spice. Miso Soup had an appetising aroma. However I felt the Yaskisoba noodles was average and can be improved. Nothing could be better than the great Sushi Platter. A sophisticated, succulent, delicate and intricate dish defining Japanese Cusine making it popular worldwide. Despite not being a big fan, I relished these phenomenal rolls that melt in the mouth with a strong essence of wasabi and are not only a feast for the tummy but also a treat for the eyes. Dorayaki Pancake with icecream was a fantastic dessert. Irresistible and a Delightful end to a superb meal. (7/10)

Ambience- Simple yet amazing interior decor. Designer Walls and elegant flooring. Beautiful art work on bowls. Spectacular entrance with marvellous artefacts and bottles that adds to the attractive look. Well planned layout. Spacious arrangement. Exquisite wooden furniture. Relaxing Atmosphere. Central Air conditioning. Comfortable chairs for seating with options of separate enclosed areas for private dining. (8/10)

Service- Excellent. Quintessential fine dining experience. Wonderful Hospitality. Staff is quick, efficient, knowledgeable, attentive, courteous and well trained and take efforts to make the guest feel special. Chancery Hotel Parking Available. Matsuri is a popular religious ceremony that is celebrated periodically in the Shinto temples of Japan and this place is aptly named as it celebrates Japanese cuisine in a big and grand way

Although I have eaten Japanese food before at quite a number of places, I was so happy to find new dishes from Japan on the menu which I had not heard about before. Therefore Japanese food is much beyond Sushis

We started with appetisers like
Okura no wasabi-ae--chopped okra in wasabi

Dashimaki tamago- sweet rolled omelettes

Hourenso gouma-ae- spinach in sesame dressing

Nikujaga- Beef and potato stew

Tori no kaarage- fried Japanese chicken

Ika no kaarage- fried squid rings

Tempura prawns

The sushi platter- which was too good. Fresh and super delicious

In the main course we had the following-

Tofu no teriyaki- tofu in sweetened soya sauce
Yakizakana teriyaki- grilled salmon fish fillet with sweetened soya sauce

Teppan yaki noodle- stir fried udon noodles served with pork and vegetables
Miso soup

The dessert was superb. The doriyaki pancake with ice cream was the perfect thing to end a hearty meal like this.

At the end we had some Japanese jasmine tea which really soothed the mind and also the stomach after having so much food😁

The interiors are also extremely beautiful. This place serves the most authentic version of Japanese food which was evident from the fact that so many Japanese people were having their food here. The ingredients used are fresh and the head chef also hails from Japan.Loved the food and place and surely you will like it was well.

a little late review... had been to matsuri for dinner with a friend... warm traditional Japanese welcome as we entered... decent place... Indian servers with some knowledge of Japanese food... now the good part ends here... asked for sake and we were told ONLY BY THE BOTTLE!! too bad had to stick to beers... now the food... yakitori was very average, tasteless and undercooked. katsu (cutlet) dripping with oil, i could fry another portion of katsu with the dripping oil. not to mention tasteless... tuna and salmon sashimi never had potions so small, badly cut and felt like leftover pieces cut by an amateur with a rusted knife.. i know my food and knife skills when it comes to Japanese cuisine are very important. the nigiri and maki felt like it had been prepared in big batches the previous day. the udon noodles were overcooked and mushy. the best thing in the dinner was sadly the beer... i know my food and must say that although authentic japanese the food was below par and lacked freshness, taste, quality, skill and everything that japanese cuisine is known for!

Matsuri is CBD's authentic Japanese restaurant which specialises in serving food from the land of the rising sun in its true flavours and presentation. The food was authentic Japanese, true to Japanese cuisine it brought out then individual flavours of each ingredient.. .The Miso Soup was etraordinary and so was the Pan Fried Tori No Karaage. I also liked the Fried potato with Udon Noodles. The Non vegetarian Sushi Moriawase was to die for. The dessert Dorayaki Pancake with ice cream, Chef's special was the ultimate sinful ending to our very delectable dinner.

Being a food connoisseur, I love trying different cuisines. And trying Japanese cuisine was on my mind since a long while now. So, finally when I got a special influencers table invite, I was more than excited.
Matsuri is the restaurant section of The Chancery Hotel in Lavelle Road. They have general seating area in the hall while separate sections have been made for private gathering. The entrance is beautifully decorated with empty beer bottles and designer mirrors fixed on both side of the walls.
Coming to the food, our culinary experience was drool worthy.
🍗Appetizers🍗
Okura no wasabi-ae - This is the ladies finger flavoured in wassabi. The okra was kept raw maybe because that's how it's consumed as per Japanese cuisine but doesn't go too well as per Indian flavors.
Hourensou goma-ae - The spinach with sesame dressing. Had a sweet taste and delicious. We weren't satisfied with a single serving.
Dashimaki Tamago - This was the rolled omelette. I had never tasted such flavorsome omelette cubes elsewhere. This was heavenly.
🍣Pan Fried🍢
Tori no Karaage - The Japanese fried chicken served with veggies and mayo was an absolute delight. Tender chicken chunks marinated to perfection.
Ika no Karaage - The Japanese fried squid rings. Again, worth mentioning. Crisp outer layer and smoother from inside, quite palatable.
Fried Potato - Fried potato wedges served as the best appetizer.
Tempura no moriawase - The batter fried prawns and vegetables served with soya sauce as a side was remarkable.
🍜Soup🍜
We had the Miso soup which was a mix of seaseed and veggies. The soup was hot and felt nourishing but it was bland as per Indian flavours.
🍚Sushi🍠
We had the Sushi moriawase which was a special mixed sushi platter. I was never a sushi person but this dish truly redefined my taste for sushi. I never knew sushi could be this appetizing. And the wassabi surely gave a strong kick.
🍝Noodles🍝
Ebi Tempura Udon - The udon noodle soup served with tempura prawns again didn't fit my taste. But the prawns was yummy.
🍚Main course🥗
Yasai itame and Tofu no Teriyaki - The former is the stir fried vegetables while the latter being the grilled tofu. The veggies were decent but the tofu was to die for. Such succulent Tofu chunks blended with sweetened soya sauce imparted a delightful flavour.
Chicken Nanban - One of their signature dishes. Fried chicken with vinegar and tartare sauce served with veggies is a must try.
Yakizakana Teriyaki - This is the grilled salmon mixed with sweet Soya sauce. The dish was absolutely loved and relished by all of us. My favourite among the lot.
🍩Dessert🍰
Dorayaki pancake with icecream - The pancake had a bean-jam stuffing and went quite good with the icecream. The icecream was quite yummy. Finally, we ended our dinner with the traditional green tea.
My friends tried Gyu steak (beef steak) and Nikujaga (stewed beef) as well and the response was quite affirmative.
Service is top notch and the staff is polite and courteous. Definitely the best place to go for authentic Japanese cuisine.
Bon Apetit!!

Matsuri has been my go to place for Japanese food in the city and I've been here on multiple occasions. The food is pretty much upto standard and I've always fancied the decor of the restaurant as it gives you a very authentic Japanese feel. The Katsudon is to die for and I keep going back for that. Service could improve a bit, but I figure that the food compensates for that pretty well.

By far the best and most authentic Japanese restaurant in Bangalore. The absolutely perfect flavours coupled with a great services makes dining at Matsuri always a very happy experience. Definitely try the crispy fried chicken, teriyaki rice bowl set and their soba noodles with tempura.

Wonderful experience with the chef serving his favorites on the house. Salmon sushi was really fresh and tasty, as well as the distinct miso soup that reminded of Japan. They also serve a salmon in teriyaki sauce which we had the last time we visited and it was really flavourful. Lot of new dishes are added to the menu now. Would surely recommend everyone to visit as it is also pocket friendly considering other options in Bangalore regarding Japanese cuisine.

I've been to so many Japanese restaurants, but the food was not up to there. And yesterday I Was in Matsuri at the chancery hotel. The sushi here was fresh and really good it reminds me the trip in Japan. Since the sushi was really good we ordered another food like buta shogayaki and Salmon Teppanyaki with a bowl gohan . Wah!!!! That was another really delicacy we had which was again a mouth watering experience. The staff was very friendly and well caring thank you Mr shivam . We had a very good time. Hoping to be here again very soon with some friends and family.

The Japanese feel starts the moment you enter this place. They have a general seating area and private seating for groups.

Well the food is great and is authentic to the Japanese style. Im generally not a big fan of sushi, but loved it here.

Long Post Alert

+++Matsuri+++

Reservation made using www.dinefest.in

Matsuri is a great example of an experience gone sour thanks to some of the worst levels of service that I have encountered at a ‘fine’ dining restaurant in recent times. Dinefest featured this restaurant as part of their culinary event spanning 10 days across 3 cities. With an attractive offer of Rs.500++ for a 3-course menu, we decided to make a lunch reservation for four of us today. There were only 3 tables occupied (including ours).

The menu is very well-curated with a good mix of Vegetarian and Non-vegetarian food. If you are a grammar nazi (like me), I suggest you hold yourself back because the menu is poorly proof read.

My first course was an ‘appetizer’ called Tofu Hiyayakko. Some cold chunks of good quality Silken Tofu, a spring onion and ginger seasoning, and some Soy Sauce were the main ingredients. Tofu lovers will surely enjoy this dish for its simplicity.

Course two consisted of Yakisoba Noodles and Nasu Dengaku. Yakisoba noodles is the quintessential Japanese dish made using Soba Noodles (buckwheat noodles) and is renowned for its great taste. All four diners suspected that the noodles served weren’t real Soba noodles. The dish by itself was tasty but it had too many vegetables for my liking hence not what I had in mind. Authentic Yakisoba noodles is usually made with just noodles, Soy and spring onions. I suppose they customize it here to suit local palates. The Nasu Dengaku is a dish made with deep-fried eggplant tossed in a pungent miso sauce. The sauce was way too overpowering therefore totally killing the flavour of the eggplant. Not overly impressed but a dish I wouldn’t mind ordering although next time I would prefer some plain steamed rice instead of noodles.

For the 3rd and final course, I ordered Wasabi Ice-cream supposedly made in-house. It was okay in terms of flavours but nothing to write home about.

Now, the service at Matsuri seemed determined to ruin our meal consistently over the 2-odd hours that we spent there. The issues compounded as the meal progressed. Here were some extremely annoying service blunders at the restaurant:

1. No tissues/table napkins were given. I suppose they never considered spillage to be a possibility amongst diners.

2. No water served. Not even water glasses kept on the table

3. Order taker did not know the difference between Soba noodles and Udon noodles- a basic requirement for a Japanese Fine-dine restaurant. He went back inside to seek clarity yet came back as confused. In sheer exasperation, we had to request for someone from the kitchen to come and talk to us.

4. All main course items were served at the start of the meal. What’s worse, the waiter didn’t know which items were a part of which course. The food was hurriedly taken back into the kitchen and re-heated when we asked for it. No prizes for guessing what happens when fresh food is reheated. This was especially annoying for the non-vegetarians at the table.

5. One of our diners was left without his accompanying dish until we reached the dessert.

For many, these may appear to be minor service-related issues but please note that this is a fine dining restaurant where one pays a premium for the entire experience and not just the food. Such abysmal levels of service are totally unacceptable. The restaurant gave us a 10% discount to try and compensate for the blunders but that was not what we sought. Hope they get their act together, soon!

With Devesh Agarwal Anjali Agarwal and Raj.

Visites many times.
Lunch time is very nice. Provides very reasonable price.
Japanese foods provided are all good. But I like Japanese noodle.
The Bangalore Food Harem
Matsuri at The Chancery on Lavelle Road, is probably one of the most authentic Japanese Restaurants in Bangalore. They do have the usual Sushi and Sashimi that are offered by most restaurants today but what surprised us the most is the exposure to various other styles of Japanese cooking like their stir frys and grills which are lip smacking. The cooking is what one would actually be offered in a Japanese home- simple, comforting and absolutely delicious.

We had the Pork with Bitter Gourd which was amazing, with only porky goodness and no bitterness. An off-the-menu we really recommend is the Ginger Pork. It was a deep fried pork dish, and instantly, had us planning our second visit here. The Miso soup comprising of a watered-down broth flavoured with miso paste, was on-point as well. We also tried the pork main course that came with lots of rice and an inlet of pork and onions with sea weed on top which was worth trying too. When you dine here, an absolute must-try is the ramen with spicy peanut broth which is very flavourful and light!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE:

By now you all know how much we love our Asian food here at BFH, so we dropped in at Matsuri at the Chancery once again.

We started with the veg and non-veg sushi platters and ebi tempura which were quite standard, and the dashimaki which was a bit too sweet. We prefer the one at Sake, which is perfectly balanced and absolutely mouthwatering. For our mains, we tried the yasai tempura soba, niku udon, donburi rice bowl with beef, and a beef stir fry. The beef dishes were all nicely seasoned and made with good quality meat. The ramens on the other hand were predominantly miso flavoured and failed to pack any punch, meaning that you can't eat more than a few mouthfuls before it gets monotonous.

Heads up - some of the menus have extra pages so be sure you get a look at all your options before ordering.

BFH recommends Sake over Matsuri for a more flavourful meal.

Japanese food is known for its sophisticated and refined ways of cooking which is said to have a healthier balance of filling in well controlled proportions, it is presented beautifully in tiny dishes and plates and as they say, dining here encourages you to ‘eat with your eyes’, and not just savor the taste. Matsuri at the Chancery Hotel is the place you would not want to miss if you are craving for authentic Japanese food in Bangalore.
Phenomenal World
I had been to Matsuri as part of an invite to try out their Japanese menu. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. I have always been enamored by Japanese culture, their philosophy and their strict code of ethics. What ever they do whether it is food, business, sports or poetry, it is all based on philosophy, discipline and simplicity and this was no different
Gourmand Girl
A typically Japanese ambience with clean lines and angular decor is outstaged only by even better food.

Even to the typical indian tastebud, this place is tantalizing.

Some of the standout items were:

The tempura platter with prawns.. (delicious prawns, crunch and cooked to perfection)
The potato starch crumbed chicken
Grilled Chicken in Teriyaki sauce
Fried Chicken with vinegar and Tartare sauce

The green tea icecream was a pleasant surprise.

The portions are good the service is great.

SIDE NOTE: The icy spice mocktail was the second best mocktail I've had in Bangalore. Number 1 being an orange based mocktail in Shiro (UB city), this one at Matsuri is the second best. Another good mocktail in Bangalore is called "The Marine" at High Ultra Lounge.

‘Matsuri’ in Japanese means a Festival. We got to know this when we were invited to The Chancery Hotel’s Matsuri restaurant that servers authentic Japanese food. In this lunch we also got to know a lot interesting facts about Japanese Cuisine when Executive Chef Yuki Okano and others – Megumi Nakayama, Ashish Sehgal and Chandrabhan Singh took us through the complete experience. The experience turned out to be a pleasure to know a completely new cuisine.

A great place to experience Japanese cuisine; the food is authentic and representative of the spirit of Japan. With decor that is elegant and contemporary, the restaurant is an ideal place to unwind over a lovely meal. The vegetarian plate had a 'tempura' which is essentially butter fried vegetables with white radish and tempura sauce, Japanese style pickles, deep fried tofu and vegetable dumplings served with boiled vegetables.
The miso pasted soup, udon noodles and sushi are delectable. The best part is the dessert that is a wonderful combination of fruits, ice cream and seaweed agar gelatin is just delicious.

I'm a huge fan of oriental cuisine and enjoyed the food here. We started our tasting with basil infused lime juice and shakado gozen which consists four starters Chicken tempura, japanese pickles and gravy (sunomono and mizore-su), sashimi, shrimp dumpling with vegetables the portion size was awesome great flavors and taste.

we were told that soup is normally served after starters. we tasted a red snapper soup (kuzu tataki soup) mild and rustic flavored soup was served in a wooden bowl and is said thats how it is served in japan during winter we had to pick up the bowl and drink the soup directly from the bowl this was so soothing and comforting...totally enjoyed.

After the soup was two assorted sushi and egg custard with udon noodles (odawara mushi). I liked the egg custard with noodles mushroom and shrimp this was savory and really filling.

Finally ended our meal with fruit creme mitsumame (cubes of seaweed agar, with scoop of icecream, sweet bean paste and fruits) never tasted icecream with sweet bean paste it was superb and would like to go back again just for the dessert.

I attended an event organised by Ikebana International Bangalore chapter at Matsuri and was pleasantly surprised with the cuisine on offer. I had never tried Japanese cuisine before and it was a perfect introduction to exciting Japanese dishes ! The restaurant staff had gone out of its way to make it an all vegetarian menu to accommodate us ( we were a large party with veg preferences). I really like the miso soup and the Yaki Udon noodles - full of flavour and a very interesting taste for the Indian palate. But the star of the show was Matcha ice cream ( Green tea icecream) served with fluffy dorayaki and a cuppa of warm green tea. All in all, a very good meal! I definitely recommend. We also had a sushi demonstration by the chef - a lot of nice showmanship involved in making sushi :D

Ikebana & Japanese Vegetarian lunch party with ladies only. Had a great experience & was very pleased with the set menu selection by Chef to suit the requirements of the group. I thought it was put together nicely by Matsuri. Thank you!

Went in here to try some authentic Japanese cuisine apart from Sushi - my only Japanese cuisine experience till date. Welcome was warm and the staff was courteous. Considering I am new to Japanese cuisine, I largely relied on the staff's recommendation. Didn't want something which takes me completely off guard and sought some safe options, however took my time to understand the menu. The staff was extremely patient and the suggestion was not disappointing at all. I eventually settled for the following:

Yakizakana Teriyaki - huge grilled salmon with a very good and slightly sweet sauce. That's for appetisers. For main course, it was Tapan Yaki Udon - Flat, soft, wheat noodles with chicken (have pork options aswell) and veggies, served on a hot plate.

I must say, it was a good start. Took a lot of time post food to read about the menu and I'm already eyeing some exciting options for the next visit.

P.S: They serve the very famous Japanese Asahi beer as well.

All in all, a satisfying experience and I'll give my first visit a 4 for good food, 4 for interior and decor. -1 for a extremely bright set up with yellow gold coloured furnishings - was quite tuf on the eyes.
