Review Masala Oota - Bengaluru

Dipanjan Deb
Good hygienic food, cordial staff, very spacious. I generally go here for lunch. Both veg and non-veg are delicious. The ambience is very nice. For daily office-goers who have their lunch outside the high price maybe a factor here.

Awesome food. Wonderful place... We had a great meal.. ambience was good and excellent.

This is the place that combines old world Bangalore with some contemporary charm. Donne biryani does definitely taste authentic out here, and so do their ragi mudde (finger millet dumplings) and Mysore mutton chops! Highly rated if you want a taste of authentic Mysore Karnataka cuisine, without wanting to make the journey into the congested part of the Pete area.

Post google review had been der, lovely place, lovely ambience. Staff are friendly. We ordered for Biryani and kabab but they suggested combo, which we took. It had ragi ball(pretty small) chicken curry , kabab 2 peices, chicken Biryani (I codnt fnsh full-a lil too much quantity for girls) chilli bajji(no idea why) and pineapple kesaribath and also Rasam prices 225. Veg is 195. Totally worth the price we pay. We also took pepper chicken which was equally tasty. I suggested to couple of my colleagues and received positive feedback as well. Must go place

Best Ambience, Very good place for Nonvegetarians

Amazingly tasty food, which was both filling and delicious. Has a lot of varieties. Seems to be a small place, but one should enter to get amazed by the decor and coziness. Loved the first visit. Will visit again. Afterall, this is where I got to try raggi mudde for the first time 🙂

Amazing new place. Food is yummy. The meal with Ragi ball is a must have even for those first timers who don't know how to swallow it. Enjoy it while you can.

Tasty food at an affordable price.

Simple but tastefully done. Food is simple and feels like home-cooked. One of the good restaurants to go to for everyday lunch options near Richmond Circle.

Kind of boutique place...Really nice food, if you like it spicy ... The biryani is especially good... Slightly high priced if you compare similar places...

I really really like the taste of food and also the food has been served very soon after the order has been given. Friendly staff and beautiful ambience. Would love to visit the place again and again keeping the mind the reasonable prices and the quantity of the food.

Visited masala oota a couple of days back. We tried one chicken biryani thali and a normal mutton biryani. The thali quantity and variety was good but the sing mutton biryani was a let down in term of quantity and bone pieces. Price little on the higher side but very nice ambiance. Parking is a bit difficult.

I go to this place for lunch. They serve Mangolorean food. The place is very spacious and clean. The ambience is little retro. They play 90s English music most of the time. I’ve tried their chicken/veg thali with white rice, roti thali, chicken and mutton biryani. I like their food. The service is very fast. This place is not pocket friendly for daily office goers. I’m saying this because the location in which it’s situated is full of offices which don’t have their canteen, so everyone goes out for food.

A surprisingly large place - the owners have tried ato create a niche place for Karnataka food.

The Donne Biriyani was good, the ragi balls were good but the chicken ghee roast was not exactly your conventional ghee roast -, too much masala and gravy. The mutton chrry was apparently good as well

Want to come here again to try the evening snacks especially the Akki Roti

Service was good and the value for money was okayish.

Ordered food home on recommendation of friends. It turned out to be just about okay. Ordered the following:

-- Mysore Mutton Chops Curry (average)
-- Mandya Chicken Curry (good)
-- Mutton Donne Biryani (average)
-- Akki Roti (average)
-- Ragi Mudde (bad)
-- Coconut Lapa (bad)

One can skip this place.

Dont even think about going her if you have a vehicle. This place is strictly for walk in customer only. Thry have place right in front of the restaurant but you cannot park there even for a bike. So if you need to eat here come walking.

They seem to have some quirky ambience.. seems to be popular with school nD office guys... Biryani is good.. but I got all chicken pieces which were pink in d middle.. as in way undercooked... When complained they said.. we check all d pieces.. I think it's only u who got it.. every customer counts ... Shall go once more to try out the snacks items..

Randomly visited the place for lunch today. First impression was definitely about the ambience. Interiors were well thought, colorful and works well with the traditional cuisine served.
We ordered Mysore mutton curry with a portion of Chapati and Ragi Mudde. The meat was tender and perfectly cooked; curry perfectly spiced.
However the options for lunch are very limited, with most of menu(rolls and snacks) being available after 3pm.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant for peeps in and around Richmond town

Stopped over for a quick bite and they did not disappoint.
The service is attentive and the ambience soothing. It is much larger than it looks from the outside. Mangalore bhajji and Buttermilk were both spot on.
Will return to try the main menu items as well, even though those are a little over priced.
My family and my pet dog visited MASALA OOTA for dinner.
PETS: small pets allowed
ORDERED: chicken paddu, chicken biryani
Chicken paddu was delicious
Chicken biryani though the taste wasnt bad and was served hot, it was extremely dry. They claimed that they had taken it off the dumm just 30 min ago that could have made it dry. We were there btwn 9 and 9:30 on a Sunday. It has to be seen if it could be better on another visit.
CLEANLINESS - 5/5
INTERIORS AND AMBIENCE: nice quirky interiors. Well lit and well spaced out tables.
STAFF: friendly, polite ppl.
COST: 4 ppl ate well in under rs.1000
PARKING: weekend at 9 wasn't a problem.i suspect a weekday could be challenging .
BEST FOR: they have an ice cream shop attached to it too. Perfect for families to step out on a lazy weekend, eat simple food and chat up. It being quiet also makes it a great place for discussions.

I would like to go back there some other time and hope my experience could be better.
Been to this couple of weeks back...it serves amazing cuisines, I had akki roti, mangalore bun, congress bun and filter coffee...good place for a quick grab of your favourite dishes

Masala Oota is a lovely place for South Indian food style lovers. The Ragi ball with chicken curry is jus ultimate.
Its a decent place for people who are traditionally addicted to Rice and Ragi mudhe.
The place is healthy and food tasted reaĺly good. :-)

The interiors r nice. Food very over priced for the quantity. We ordered chicken ghee roast which was hardly enough for one person. Prawn ghee roast had six pieces. Mysore chops had just one piece of mutton. Felt cheated
Aishwarya -
the ambiance is good, which will easily get a 4! but i was super disappointed with the food... ordered thaali.. ragi ball was well cooked.. and the chicken kabab was good.. only these two were good in the entire thaali.. biriyani is not upto the mark at all... i did not feel like i was eating donne biriyani.. it lacked all the flavor a donne biriyani should have... along with the thaali we ordered vasantha neeru.. it was a very tiny drink... just as much as a tea glass.. we also checked their menu.. most of the food is expensive.. if you still want to try the restaurant just go for the thaali....

this place is in the heart of the city. unique interiors and stands aside from usual biryani places.

definitely eat local kinda concept. the kabab stood out, the ghee roast was not coastal. the biryani was ok and nothing great for the price. with that price i would expect bengaluru's Natti kolli biryani(country chicken).

the desert was perfect and that southern too.

I like the concept of the place and definitely support local authentic restaurant.
ambience- 5.. very well done... gives u some peaceful vibes even though u r inches away from the hustle bustle of Residency road.. mild soft colours... they've used some good props.. and thrown in some retro themes...
service 4 - you order and pay at the counter and the food is served at Ur table...
food-2 chicken donne biryani.. extremely spicy and but lacked any other flavours... pieces were small...
egg biryani and Koli vada combo... the biryani was ok... the combo gives u a small bowl of payasa and Koli vada which is basically potato crisps with some semi gravy... however there was just 1 potato crisps... and costed 10 rupee more than ordering them separately... which we opted for... and then the Koli vada had 10 crisps... basically the combo doesn't make much sense...
and tasted just about ok...
good ambience let down but some average food....

I had dinner with a friend last night at Masala Oota.

Let me break my review down:

Food- The Chicken Donne Biryani was excellent. Definitely one of the best I've tasted. Right flavor and very well cooked. The Mysuru Mutton Chops are a must try. The mutton was tender and the gravy was delectable. We ordered an extra portion of the excellently made akki roti to finish off the gravy :)

Ambience- Very homely with pleasant English music playing in the background. Situated in the heart of the city, this place is a go-to. Clean atmosphere.

Service- Food was served quickly, not much of a wait time.

I strongly recommend this place for a quick, homely, authentic meal.

Finally a place to try out local cuisine in a central location! Food is authentic & a must try. Nice for a dining in experience and the pricing is good.

We were invited by this restaurant to try out their Ugadi Special Thali. While we don't frequently go to authentic Carnatic food places, it's safe to say we're glad we tried this place out. As you walk in you see a place which has been traditionally done up with a mix of modern interiors. There has been a lot of attention to detail put into the planning of this place, right from the seating to the restrooms. We were pretty excited to try out the food from this place even though it doesn't really resonate with people our age much.

Appetizers
The Thali has Chicken kebab and Koli Vada depending on your eating preference. Both of them were seasoned to perfection and it's something we could not have enough of. It was slightly oily however the taste compensated for it.

Main Course
The main part of the Thali consisted of Mandya Chicken Curry, Potato chops, Roti, Chicken Biryani, Veg Biryani, Raitha and Rasam. The Chicken Curry was well seasoned and went perfectly with the Roti. The Potato Chops was a twist off Mutton Chops and it's something which makes you feel satisfied even if you're a non-vegetarian. The Chicken Biryani tasted very good and the flavours worked very well along with the gravy which was served along with it. Although it was slightly dry, it was taken care of by the Raita. The Veg Biryani was spicy and is certainly something which will appeal to you if you're a spice lover. Although the rasam didn't have anything to be paired with we were completely content drinking it directly because of the well blended spice mix and the flavours it offered.

Dessert
We wished there were more desserts as part of the Thali as the only dessert we had tasted phenomenal. We were given an Obbattu which is a traditional Carnatic sweet item. All it needed was a dollop of Ghee and you could not possibly leave without a smile on your face.

Final Verdict
This is certainly a place you need to visit if you're a South Indian food lover. It is also a place to visit if your only knowledge of South Indian Food is Idly and Dosa as it opens up your palate by showing you truly what Karnataka has to offer. They have gone the traditional route and have nailed the basics. Considering the area it is located and the kind of offerings they provide we certainly feel this place will do very well. They also have an evening menu which consists of tea, coffee and multiple Pakodas and short eats which we unfortunately could not sample as we were way too full. Food Trail India would certainly recommend all of you try out this place.

Food: 4/5
Price: 4/5
Ambience: 5/5
Service: 4/5

Nice and bright little place serving a limited menu .
Service was quick ( you have to order at the counter but the food will be served at your table ) .
We had the akki and ragi roti with mutton chops and prawns ghee roast on the side . The prawns ghee roast tasted different than the usual manglorean ghee roast but, it was tasty . The chops was also delicious and packed with flavour .
Will definitely go back to try other things on the menu .

This cute little place opened near Ritz Carlton just a month back. I tried their masala Korma, Ragi roti, akki roti and some cocunut drink. Everything was amazing except the beverage, it was too sweet for me.
I was very sad at not being able to try the kulfi, as I had already eaten too much.
Will definitely visit again.
Dipika Khaitan
Loved the food. A must visit for people who need a healthy option like ragi roti and maybe a spicy dish like chicken fry. The co owners Nikki and Shruthika are friendly, helpful and make sure you enjoy your meal and come back for more. Dont forget to order the Paan flavoured kulfi (for the ones who love extra sweet, like my husband) or the not-so sweet payasam (like me). Enjoy maadi

This is a newly opened place. The ambience is beautiful and very peaceful. Neatly done. The service was quick and the staff were excellent. The food was delicious. Presentation was nice too. Totally enjoyed it. However the price is a little tiny winy on the higher end. But it's totally worth. There's a Mumbai kulfi shop right next to masala oota which serves amazing kulfis. Must try. I would definitely recommend this place.

Just went here for the second time. The food was really good. Have to appreciate how they have turned it around. I ate the Mutton Chops and the chicken curry along with the Ali Roti. Every dish was spot on.

First visit - The only thing worse than the shitty service was the food. The food wasn’t close to hot, the biryani came before the starters, the meat wasn’t tender. The only dish that was half decent was the prawn ghee roast.

This is a new place opened just few days ago. Given 2 stars only for the look of the place
1. Ambience and interiors are made nice
2. Staff are friendly
3. Menu has variety

This place serves local or Karnataka cuisine and will be good for people who have not had traditional Karnataka food, as I had Chicken Donne Biryani and it is not even close to the actual taste of Donne Biryani. It is not having the right Donne Biryani flavour to it, filled with tomatoes, yes Donne Biryani and tomatoes a big piss off. It is served with watery raitha. Donne Biryani truly needs to served with just some raw onions and cucumbers, so when you eat it will retain the true flavour.
Pricing is high for quality, quantity and no where close to real Donne Biryani. (INR 200)It is served in Donne is the only right thing done. Pleas try to taste and visit legendary places like Shivaji and SGS Gundu Pulav, these are people truly serving Donne Biryani prepared in right traditional method and real Donne flavour. Shivaji serves the best Donne Biryani is Bangalore and with all true methods and aspects they have not priced at 200.
If your visiting for Donne Biryani a big disappointment it will be.

Amazingly yummy decently priced and a must try out place near Residency Road. Chow chow chop along with raagi ball was a delight to the tongue...

A cheerful cafe which combines a quirky, colourful ambience with Karnataka style food, Masala Oota's cuisine brings back nostalgic memories of feasts enjoyed at home with family and friends :) Right from the delectable ghee roast and the donne biryani to the akki roti and elaneer payasam. The teatime menu also sounds interesting, look forward to trying out the jaggery filter coffee and savoury treats!
