Review Calicut Restaurant - Bengaluru

Amjith K
Review date 2023 December Location:MSR College Road in Bengaluru Tried twice in two days. Porotta is crispy and tasty. Beef roast is also fine but contains bad pieces. The fish curry was good. The restaurant won't disappoint you Putt and beef are famous here. we didn't get a chance to have it since around noon time it was not available. Service : served wet plates Only a single waiter and who is not well connected with customers

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Calicut, located on MSR College Road in Bengaluru, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. The restaurant offers a delightful combination of friendly staff, quality food, and generous portions that left me thoroughly satisfied. One of the standout aspects of Calicut is its warm and welcoming staff. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with genuine smiles and prompt service. The staff members were attentive, knowledgeable about the menu. When it comes to the food, Calicut certainly knows how to impress. The quality of the dishes served here is truly remarkable. The Kerala meals, in particular, are top-notch and showcase the authentic flavors of Kerala cuisine. The traditional Puttu and Beef combination is an absolute delight, with tender, well-cooked beef perfectly complementing the light and fluffy Puttu. This mouth-watering combination is a must-try for any food enthusiast. Another dish that caught my attention was the Kappa with Beef. The combination of tapioca (kappa) and flavorful beef creates a unique and delicious taste. The tender chunks of beef blend perfectly with the soft and subtly flavored kappa, resulting in a truly memorable culinary experience. I highly recommend giving this dish a try during your visit to Calicut. However, it's important to note that parking can be a challenge near Calicut. Due to its popularity and limited parking spaces in the vicinity, finding a spot for your vehicle might require some effort and patience. Overall, Calicut on MSR College Road in Bengaluru is a gem of a restaurant. The friendly staff, quality food, and generous portions make for a delightful dining experience. Whether you're a fan of Kerala cuisine or simply looking to explore new flavors, Calicut is definitely worth a visit. Just remember to plan ahead for parking to ensure a hassle-free experience.

We had breakfast with my family and konda kadala curry was not that good for appam and puttu... Maybe it tastes good with non veg. And very wet plates were served which was not in a good manner to treat the customer.
Vijay kumar
Actually I am vegetarian this restaurant looks good for non veg people but i tell one thing about it i tried 2 recipes here those are paneer and mushroom butter masala the flavour of these recipe are well managed and taste good to have and the restaurant ambiance feels like homely.....

A great place to have Kerala food. Only problem is no parking space available. But can manage to park cars behind the restaurant. Must try beef when you are going. The best place in Bangalore to have beef items.

The food is delicious, the service is good. I visited this place in 2017 during my course of Corporate BBA + MBA at GEMS B School, Bangalore.

The last time we went there it was a disappointment. This time it was different! The biriyani was simply amazing. The chicken lolipop was great and appams were good too. Even the lime juice and lime tea was extra good. I'll definitely be coming back here.
Dinesh Subudhi
Good food and service. I had Iddyappam a nd Kadla curry. The taste and price is good. Iddyappam - ₹12 each Kadla curry - ₹50/per bowl (one serving)

Good for breakfast food. Malabar style curries are the highlight. Conventional dosais and roasts are also available. Enjoy the food at a better ambience. The wall of the restaurant is painted with the history of Calicut, the place in Kerala by which the restaurant itself is named after. The restaurant has an open kitchen, you are always welcome to watch your order being cooked. Various Kerala style lunch is also available with chicken and fish biriyani on the menu. Fish fry meals is also available.

Best Kerala cuisine with a very legitimate prices... Breakfast with chai is something I never get over with.... Difficult to say which items to try 😁 But a few of my fav Parotta/appam and chicken curry Neymeen fry Service is pretty fast...

I hope people read this and take ny review seriously. In a nut shell if you have nothing to eat then order maggie from outside and have it will be better than the food here. Absolutely unworthy, i generally never write any reviews but i couldn't help but write this because i have never felt more cheated. The kebabs was worst than road side eateries and went straight into the dustbin. The red meat was only curry leaves and left over pieces of cheap beef portion. For 300 bucks they made me a fool. The kebabs as u see is excessively burnt and only bones and red meat as u see is just curry leaves.
Do me a favor and order maggie if you think of ordering from here.

Egg fried rice had no egg and no taste .
Cheicken pepper masala had no good taste . Very bad choice to order
Sharon Varghese
Items from my order were missing..and the chicken fried rice had no chicken in it at all.The chicken roll I ordered was too spicy.

Guys now i ordered kuthu parotta fro. This restaurant, they are giving very very less quantity of food. They are really exploiting the covid situation. Dnt make shame for mallus, by having this name. Shame on u guys. I acnt even call u as beggers. U guys are below of that. For the amount u are taking from the customers u have to deliver the descent amount of food. I know u never do this if i am in your hotel, u r doing this only bcz of we are doing online service. We can only show our protest through media. Go amd beg on the road.

Cockroach in food...pathetic..
Justin Forkikx
Gobi Manchurian dry had only unfried Gobi pieces with no signs of batter. Disappointed. Tomato fry and Chicken Biryani dry were decent. Wonder if they lost their regular cook during this coronavirus lockdown.
Sharanya Menon
Quantity abysmal. Gobi manchurian came in a quantity so tiny that we assumed it was the extra salad. With about four pieces of broken Gobi. Chicken dry biryani was sub-par
The full version was about the size of a half biryani. I'm wondering what the half will be. Please don't waste your money here. I did.

Why there are no promo codes?

I ordered for squid fry and crab fry... Really very dissapointed... I didn't expect this from you guys.... We are paying the amount what u have mentioned.. But why u wanna do this to see profit.... Totally unfair

Good Biriyani..
i ordered chicken dry biriyani... And chilli chicken from this restaurent. I should say tht ths restaurent always provide such a tasty food.
Poulami Banerjee
This small eatery in the midst of several outlets in Yeshwantpur brings a delicious food of Kerala in quite affordable prices.
One of my favorites were Chilli beef and squid masala. Adding appam to it compliments the delicacy.
For hearty Keralian food, I highly recommend this place
Diana Caucean
I ordered appam and chicken stew... I was expecting for the authentic kerala style chicken stew made from coconut milk where the stew will be milky white, but came with chicken curry I would say...yet taste was good.. Quantity is good enough for the price.. Packing was descent as well
Lavanya
A very good pocket friendly place with proper calicut food. Tried the puttu kadala and appam with banduge fish masala. Both the combos were very good and the restaurant is also have a very quick service as well.
Ambience - 3.5/5
Service - 4/5
Taste - 4/5
We ordered prawns fry on zomato and i received very less quantity. There was only 7 pcs for rs 205.
Simply waste of money. We are never expected this kind of service 1st time we are experience like this
Mus-ab Bin Nazar
I used to go there quite often. Last time, I had ordered fish curry and appam. The curry was tasty, but I noticed that the fish was not properly cleaned at all. When confronted, they said they have been doing this for many years and nobody has ever complained. If you dare to go there, test and taste by yourself
Hariprasad Km
Definitely, one of the best for Kerala Cusine, especially Malabar Cusine. Taste is very authentic. With only downside that every tasty things gets sold out easily. Damn good.
Pravin Mech

One of my favourite restaurants.Calicut has good Kerala food for reasonable prices.Their parota beef and apam was actually tasty. Its a small place.Service is also good.
Amardip Kumar
Very bad and uncooked chiken. In kadhai chiken, don't eat or order kadahi chiken. You will regreat ,.In no time they cook and deliver . Called shop but they cut phone hearing bad quality

I think the price of salt is gone down in market that is why they are adding more salt ...poor

Standard fare catering primarily o Malayali food seekers, though they have their fair share of north indian and chinese dishes in their menu. The ambience is also basic. There are many items on the menu but I have mostly stuck to their kerala dishes As mentioned in some review here, the chicken chettinadan and chicken pepper masala are good. Also the CR special chicken curry.Try it with the appam/kerala porotta. The chicken varattiyathu is not really authentic. Their biriyani is also of the Malabari style, so don't expect long-grained rice. Tastes good though.
Rajesh
My order details - Crispy Schezwan Potato, Chapathi, Baby Corn Butter Masala, Veg Fried Rice.
Review.
The potato item was good. It required little more cooking
The Chapathis were big and soft. Required little more cooking
The Baby Corn item was tasty, right consistency, corn was shredded into thin slices.
Veg Fried Rice was good, little more cooking of rice would have made it better.

Overall satisfied with the quality, quantity and cost.

My request : Kindly avoid adding colours to food. Colours that are naturally present in the spices are more than enough. If Food is safe, with correct addition of masalas and correct time of cooking, it will attract more good reviews and more customers to your restaurant.
(My fingers were having the colour even after repeated washing. Not advisable)

Don’t think I got the stuff what I ordered. Disappointed is the least I can say. Never seen chicken kabab with thick gravy. The place needs to have a supervisor that checks the order before being send out for delivery.
Selfish Alfred
These guys are so good when it comes to Biriyani and Kotthuporrota.
The chicken dum and dry biriyani both are so good.
Another must try is the Kotthuporrota (minced porotta) just delicious.
The price is just right for all the dishes. Not overpriced.
Sreeja Vn
a decent Kerala food joint.
A good place to walk-in or order a home delivery
The place has decent regular seating, nothing cosy or extraordinary
but the food taste is good, with a coastal hue
they serve fast
and you get most of the Kerala cuisine here starting from appam, beef and parotta , fish fries etc
best for fish, chicken and beef
Liz Chandra
food was very spicy even Manchurian pretty sure if spice level is reduced or mentioned below the items will be helpful to the customer. CP was excellent 👍

Being a Keralite, I loved the food served here. Let your taste buds relinquish the lipsmacking fish dishes, Kerala’S staple food . If you want to order the famous Fish meal, you better be early to the restaurant during lunch time. This is in high demand over here. Two of us could’ve sufficient great food for 300 Rs . And being a foodie, I can for sure say that you won’t be disappointed comparing it to the Kerala style. Both brown and white rice are available, so non-Keralites needn’t be worried about only brown rice being served for the meals.
Shirl Pinto
Ordered Chicken and Mutton biryani, chicken kabab and chilly chicken. The food is not greasy not is it loaded with spices. light on the stomach and high on taste. Super fast home delivery too.
Premgeo38
An excellent place to have food at medium with just 200 rupees they provide checked and beef in Kerala style. The taste is delicious and superb, but sometimes they take much time in delivering the food when the order online

Amazing place for authentic Kerala dishes. Tastier than the restaurants around. Their pepper beef is a must try. Kappa biriani and chicken biryani are personal favourites. Customer friendly service.

Calicut Restaurant has been my recent favorites for home delivery. The first time we had ordered Schezwan chicken fried rice, Chicken Biryani and Beef chilli. Must say, I was super impressed with the fried rice and beef chilli dry, it was well cooked and had perfect blend of flavours, biryani i could give it a pass. Other times we had ordered Egg chilli, chicken kebab, CR special chicken curry, parotha and Beef fry, all have been great so far and have not been dissapointed till now. Best part of CR is that they have an elaborated menu and can never fail to surprise you.😍

This place is a cuisine to remember. Pure non-veg dishes are authentic Kerela(Malabar) style with all their blend of spices. The Chicken Chettinaad was heavenly. It was off the menu and was suggested by one of the waiters. Now it might be on the menu after renovation. Also do try the Chicken pepper masala, which is the best in the area. The cook knows exactly how to tittillate your taste buds. Among Indian breads, kerela parotta is a must try, as you may not find such crispiness anywhere else.

Must try: Chicken Chettinaad, Chicken Pepper Masala, kerela parotta, wheat paratha

May not wanna try: None

Should never try: None

Food: 4
Pricing: Low
Service: 3.5
Ambience: 3

The people at the restaurant is friendly. The service is good. And food ? Yes. It’s nice. The things on the menu are a bit overpriced. The restaurant is kinda congested.
Mummum & Me
Amazing food. Seafood, chicken, beef available. Although beef isn't on the menu. You can personally ask the waiter for the beef menu. We'll about suggestions, try pepper fry, Appam, Biryani. Fish fry also is okay. Kerela parota is amazing! Pocket friendly prices. Quick service. Good ambience.

Had Kozhikode fish biryani here. Not the best, but would say it is good one. My friends ordered porotta beef which was also good. Service is swift and good.

Items are plenty and tastes good as well... Appam, palam puri and fish dishes worth trying out. Price is reasonable. Menu are plenty. Highly recommended!

Best Kerala style food in the area after Thalassery restaurant which is right next to it :P. If you really want Kerala cuisine and broke, hop in to Calicut else go next door to Thalassery!
Viraj Torsekar
The Mathikere area adjoining the IISc and Ramaiah campuses is blessed with a bunch of restaurants and messes that are cheap and quick in service, and offer a wide variety of Indian cuisines to choose from for weekday lunches. Of these cuisines, Bengali and Malayali cuisines are over-represented, and Calicut is a relatively new addition to the long list of Malayali restaurants.

I've been here a bunch of times with friends and colleagues, and our main stay here is the meals. As any other Malayali meal, they usually include a vegetable preparation or two, pumkpin in curd (tastes similar to avial), pickles, rice - both white and boiled, and sambar or fish curry to go with it, all served on a banana leaf. Other vegetarian mainstays for us have been the Kadla curry and the Vegetable Stew, best had with Kerala Parota or Appam.

The Beef fry here is the least chewy amongst all Malayali restaurants in Mathikere. The Nadan chicken is worth trying too. At the beginning of your meal, they generally carry a tray with a variety of fried fish to your table, to lure you into choosing one. Fish hasn't generally been very fresh here and I wouldn't recommend it. We've always ended our meals here with a Tea (sugar blast!) or black Tea.

Waiters are as cordial as you would expect them to be in a restaurant in Mathikere. The place feels open and spacious because of its large entrance, and has been overall clean.
Sourav Mandal
Food: One of the best keralian restaurants around.
Service: order comes on time and waiters behaves cordially.
Price: reasonable.
Ambience: good hang out place for students.

Good keralite food. May need to improve home delivery service.
Biriyani Rice should be changes to Basimati Rice. Rest everything good. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Nothing great about this place...tried meals here..though the taste was not bad ....unfortunately found a cockroach crawling in the rice.....disgusting !!!!! will avoid in future

I used to visit this place early when i had no idea where to get some fish or a plate of beef fry. Once i found other alternatives, i don't visit this place anymore. Nothing is exceptional here.
Saurabh Vijay
Fast service, good menu offering and delicious food. Kerala paratha with any meat dish is really awesome. Check out beef dishes, beef roast is really good. For lunch the meal is very good option. Very easy on the pocket too.
Zubin Rashid
A really good and authentic place to relish the Kerala cuisine.

Go for the beef varathiyattu, beef fry, beef kebab, chicken sukka.
Everything is cooked really well and served hot. The quality of meat is fresh and tender. And even the prices are well suited to the dish.

Must try for everyone who comes to this area.

I visited my chetas at Calicut, Mathikere for lunch this afternoon. This little setup on the narrow Triveni Road is certainly a hidden gem. I was lucky enough to get a nice table despite it being a Saturday.

Now, I had a specific aim behind my visit; and that was to try their Beef Fry, which I was told was among the best around town. This description is accurate. I also ordered their Chicken Dum Biryani which was nice.

My server gets the Salesman Of The Year award for showing up at my table with a tray of assorted fish ready to be fried. "Fresh fish sir, you want? Very good.", said he; and he shot back to the kitchen section when he saw my dropped jaw and affirmative eyes. So yes, on the right you see a slab of fried Neymeen.

On average, two people can dine here for about Rs. 300. Clearly I went a little crazy solo.
Amulya
Quaint place serving up delicious coastal cuisine, well predominantly kerala fair. The veg stew and egg curry was delicous, with idiyappam and malabar parata! Prices were reasonable and service was quick! Worth a try!
Krishnadas Nandakumar
Like most Kerala cuisine joints , a heaven for cheap n tasty "naadan" food.. From fish fry to beef fry and pazhampori you have enough to chooses from.
Jereish D. Varghese
There are quite a few places nearby calicut where we ger kerala food so basically the food is almost the same, price structure, etc.I felt the dry biriyani here is better as compared to the other ones nearby also the kerala porotta and malabar chicken curry is an inevitable dish there along with kerala porrota wheat porotta is worth a try.
Prasenjit Kabi
So i just finished writing a review for Thallasery next door and it is inevitable that comparision will happen between the two...Space wise Calicut is slightly bigger and has a more cheery and bright ambience. Kerala Parota is slightly better in Calicut..Rest of the dishes are almost same so nothing much to write about ........except for....both are my favourite eating places....
Anoop Basu
Fairly close to World Trade Centre. They serve authentic Kerala food. Clean and hygienic. Reasonably price. They do home/office delivery too. Deliveries are fast and prompt.
Pavithra
Located very close to MSRIT. This is a small restaurant which serves authentic Kerala food and its reasonably priced. Kerala parotta with malabar chicken curry is my all time favourite.
Aqib
One of the few good Kerala cuisine resturants near Ramaiah college. Kerala paratha a must try. Best combination : Kerala paratha & Beef roast/varatiyad. Biryani, puttu, appam ???? Reasonable rate. Neat & clean.
Rajat
Cheap and good place to have a (spicy) dinner. It generally serves Kerala cuisines.

Recommended items: Kerala paratha (5 out 5 taste), gobi manchurian.

Chicken items are average. Among all the chicken preparations, I prefer to order "pepper chicken".

Please note that do not try "chilly gobi". We tried it, and it was terrible. We could not eat it.

Service is good. Mostly within 10 minutes, they serve your order on your table.

The space is small, and the kitchen is attached.
Cost per person: veg- 115/-; non-veg- 150/-

Rating:-

Price: 3.5/5
Food: 3/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambiance: 2/5
Savad Anjillath
The place is pretty neat and you will get almost authentic Kerala style food like Puttu, Vellappam, Irachi Pathil and beef items.

Breakfast: For affordability, try Masala Dosa. Or else go for Vellappam and chicken stew.

Lunch: Try rice with any fish varieties like prawn fry or crab curry.

Dinner: You will get good Kerala Porotta from here, try it with beef varattiyad.( you will love it).

Beef Kabab from here is my favourite these days.

this evening i visited this place. walked a long way from mathikere bus stop to reach this place. we were very much interested to have some special kerala dish. we wanted to have fish and chicken. we ordered some. after tasting the food i'll suggest you not go there for a kerala dish. price is ok, but thee food doesn't have any quality. if you are not from kerala do not judge kerala food by calicut restaurant. and one more thing i want to warn you. it is more important than the food. if you are a girl, or if you have girls with you avoid this place. the workers here will take photos in mobile phone. they are all young people and unlike any other restaurant in bangalore, they will take girl's photos without your knowledge. do avoid this restaurant.
