Review Salt Mango Tree - Bengaluru

The place may look mediocre but the food and service is great. Very good Kerala cuisine.

Four of us went. The ambiance is good. It is an old house renovated (interior) in a restaurant. This is basically a kerala food themed restaurant. The starters and main course are all kerala based dishes. The food was good. We ordered baby potato fry and mutton dry for starters and Appam, veg Stew, kadala curry, kadala curry and mutton stew for main course. The appam was very nice šŸ‘Œ . Also will recommend the kadala curry and Mutton stew . Also another point is the dishes are quite large portions. Actually for 4 of us we ordered 3 curries and after eating 4 appams each still the curries were remaining and we had to parcel the rest. ( we strongly believe in not wasting food and water ). The desert is also kerala based. So we had Sulaimani tea which is black tea with herbs. We went on a Monday evening so we were able to have a quite atmosphere. Overall the experience is good.

The food is just so goooood! Everything we ate was so delicious! The chutney were yummy! The coconut caramel pudding was too amazing

Second visit here, and after many years. First visit was right around the time they started, and can't recall how it was. This time went for Fish curry sadya, chicken biryani, porotta and chicken roast. I have been trying to get a good chicken roast in BLR, and it's been a unfulfilling quest so for, till today. This was one of the best chicken roast, period. Its on par with some of the roasts I have had in Kollam and TVM. Thank you for making my day with just that dish. Biryani was good too, and so was the fish curry. Sadya was decent, porotta was disappointing. Don't know why BLR restaurants take our Mallu staple food so lightly. Very often it's the soft and soggy version that we get here, not the crisp and fluffy type we get back home. Not sure if this one was ready to eat variety, but didn't enjoy it. Just that the next level chicken roast made me forget about the shortcomings of porotta. Payasam - palada was decent, but Ada pradaman was surprisingly good. Overall, very very good meal. Enjoyed it. Will be going back for that chicken roast. Service leaves a lot to be desired though.

Nice place to be of you love Kerala cuisine. Topiaca and fish fry was exceptional Mutton food my taste was average.

Went here for Onam Sadhya Lunch . taste really good. The service was quick. They were able to manage with all the waiting
Pallabi Bagchi
Excellent food with native flavours.. Pork and mutton recipes are must try items with appam or Malabar parota.. thereā€™s a slight delay in service but itā€™s worth waiting as they make everything fresh in their open kitchen.. Authentic flavour of Kerala is available here.
Avinash Arora
We have ordered Malabar Chicken Biryani and Beef Pepper Roast. The flavour of the biryani was delicious. The best part is that the chicken was so tender and flavours smack. The quantity of both the item was very good enough for two people.

One among the best Kerala restaurants in the area.. A bit overpriced. The menu has got everything we expect from a Kerala restaurant.
Madhurima Aiyar
One must try the Kerala cuisine in this restaurant in Indiranagar. The decor is very simple and nice. The food is awesome One must try their Appam and Stew.
Jughil Dilip
Actually the food tasted very good and have the spicy Kerala taste. Food was served hot and fresh. But the pepper roast ordered seemed a bit off but rest dishes felt excellent. Itā€™s a fair enough place to have a meal !!
Shyamini Vishnu
A good place for Kerala dishes, both Veg and Non-Veg. Neatly managed peaceful and clean ambience, spacious enough for a relaxed dinner/lunch. They have items in their menu specially designated for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Varutharacha curry- which is a Kerala style dish made by grinding and frying coconut, is my favorite here. Most of the items I tried, are tasty. They have special sea food dishes and desserts too. Worth a try.

been a loyal customer till this day!!! This is my go eat place for kerala cuisine as i stay in indiranagar.. i had been here yesterday with my friend for Onam sadhya and it was good or above average for the value of money... So for the main day i invited one of my friend as well... there was a slight price change for onam sadhya as it was main day (415 to 545). we were there at around 3:20, they served us 3-4 items of side dish, white rice(not kerala rice nor boiled rice nor red rice), avial was in liquid form, cold sambhar and dead payasam.... worst onam sadhya i ever had... they had only 5-6 items (rest everything was over according the guy who served). my question is 1) If it was over, why they let us in? to eat 4-5 side dish, sambhar and white rice for 545 ? which is easily available in any restaurent for the price way less than them... 2)quoting 545 for onam sadhya in bangalore (indiranagar) is very reasonable , but serving 4-5 items and cold white rice(which we dint ask for)??? just because of this attitude i lost the respect you guys earned, you guys lost a loyal customer... i am never gonna recommend salt mango tree to anyone herafter (i been recommending them to all of my friends) giving some shit food in the name of onasadhya.... i wanted to give 0 for spoiling my onam!!!!!

The best Kerala style food I ever had from any restaurant in Bangalore, Leela Palace was the best in my list until this experience. Also I should say that the service was very nice and the ambience.
Kishore Kumar
Great place... Amazing food, ambience and great service as well... Kerala street food festival is on currently - wide variety and awesome setting while the food is second to none... love this place.
Nishal Joseph
nice place & good kerala food in their 12th main, Indiranagar restaurant.. must try!
Aarti Kandpal
Awesome food and pleasant ambience but poor service. We waited for almost 45 mins, for our starters to be served that too after reminding your staff for 3 to 4 times.
Jason Hutchins
Food undoubtedly prepared well. So points for food. But no points for ambiance and seating arrangement. Need to consider having chairs outside.
Vishranti Nair
Food is not that great. Interior's are ok. But place is overpriced.
Biju P Aravindan
Superb ambience and delicious kerala food.. A good place to spend time with family.. Alot of parking area.. A very silent place.. Kids too can enjoy..

Salt Mango Tree is a great restaurant that'll leave you feeling a little closer to home - even if you're not from Kerala!

My favourites are the Malabar Beef Biriyani, Veg Meals, Kulukki Sarbath, Erachi Curry, Ghee Rice, Chicken Roast and Erachi Coconut Fry.

Built into a home, the ambience is great, and makes the food look and taste even better!
Kartik Trivedi
One of the worst experiences I have had in life. Had enquired 3 times for Onam Sadhya. Was asked to either book in advance for delivery or come for dine in at 1:30. On reaching early around 1:25, was asked to come at 2. And then, when I went again at 2, I was told that the meals were over.
How can the meals get over within 30 mins? That too, on a festival where you were planning so much in advance? Hugely disappointed. Not really sure if I will ever visit the restaurant again, even though it one of the closest restaurant to go to.
Aishwarya S.
Had ordered chicken biryani, beef coconut fry and chicken varutharacha.
Biryani abd chicken curry was not as good as when we had ordered in february.
The beef was good.

The parotta, chicken ghee roast and mango fish curry are to die for. Staff is courteous and attentive. The dishes are priced well and are worth each penny. Salt Mango Tree is my favourite place to eat at when in Bangalore.
Sameera Shaikh
The food is tasty and you get some really authentic fresh meal. It's not fancy but who cares about fanciness if the food is great. Their b*** chilli fry was really nice so was the allepy fish curry.
Anil George
Good quality food albeit slightly higher cost. Experience has been good dining in & delivery. The staff can be more pleasant and ambiance better.
Abin Jose
This place donā€™t have a proper parking . Bikes get towed . Food is good . I found the soups to be very spicey and ful of pepper . Kerala meals is good .
Siddharth Chopra
Fantastic authentic South Indian Food with great service and a quiet cozy ambience. The owner Anoop, made sure everything was perfect. Thanks.
Ganesh Chandrashekar
Perfect place for a quick lunch. Loved the food.
Zapattu Ramone
Laid back ambience, delicious fare. Multiple visits over 24 months - consistently good, does not feel like restaurant food but closer to home cooked. Food is filling so donā€™t get carried away with the look of the portion sizes. Great for veggies and of course for non-veggies. Appam, stew, parotta, biriyani, ghee roast, sour preparations: veggie, prawn, king fish, mutton, chicken any prep on the menu - so far no complaints - if u want the chilli level higher or lower let them know, base is per se is quite perfect. Smiling staff makes you want to visit more often. One reco to SMT : loo door can be kept closed. Great place, thank you!
Shyju Nair
Horrible experience. Ordered 1 puttu online and they send me a quarter portion, not even half. Looks like this is the new way restaurant wants to make money by cheating online delivery customers. Never ordering from here again.

If you really want to try the place out, please do yourself a favor and do not attempt it on a weekend. Had a zomato reservation that was confirmed via email, but landed up at the restaurant to be told they don't take zomato reservations. Waited for 15 mins, and we were then seated at a table in one of the smaller rooms inside. 10 mins to clean th table, we wait. Another 10 pass, the table mat arrives. Wait another 10 mins, then forced to tell the guy we've been waiting over 30 mins. We've ordered meals. But everyone else at the main hall seem to be getting their meals. The first 4 dishes arrive ..then we wait for the rice. Rice arrives after reminding the staff again. Stone cold. Wait another 15 mins to get waiters attention. All while having reminded them for water atleast 6 times.
You get the drift. Our patience had been worn thin, we decided to just leave. They cannot handle the footfalls. If you don't speak Malayalam, you're unlikely to get their attention. Over all, a very very disappointing experience.

The Authentic and Typical Kerala Restaurant.
The Starters are very good and the main course too. There is a scope of opportunity in Desert but if someone likes jaggery then it will be better for them.
If someone wants to have a taste of Kerala then for them it's the place for them.

I had one of the most unsatisfactory experience today. With four of us seating in the room left to the main hall at Indiranagar restaurant. First the waiter said there is no chicken biriyani (as there was some huge order) and then we ordered 1 veg meal and King Fish Fry - 3 Kerala Parotas and Egg Curry and waited till eternity. BTW we were there before 1pm so the place was not even filled. Then some how food came after long 35 minutes wait. Food was ok types veg meal not served in order and no helpings unless one of us went physically to call them. And Fish was rather stale. Then we saw that nearby table folks could order Chicken Biriyani when we asked the waiter he said yeah we can order now. We ordered Two more chicken Biriyani and then again a wait for 30 minutes. That too after multiple reminder. And when it was served it was with no Raitha and usually chutney or papad. By the time we realised that all these should have been served most of us had finished our meal. And the Bill came to Rs 1800+. Not going there again. God bless them.

Kerala cusine is comfort food for me but at Salt Mango Tree, it is given a premium touch. The ambience and price of the dishes does not tell the story and culture of Kerala. Having said that, the food here is exceptionally tasty and a lot of care goes into its making. Awesome staff too.

Liked the food, initially I was afraid of coconut oil in the curry but the chicken stew was delicious. Loved the food but found bit costly. Final verdict
Ambiance: šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜šŸ˜
Food: šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜
Service: šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜
Cost: šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜šŸ˜

Despite waiting for an hour the food served was worth the wait. It's was delicious and authentic to its name. This was my first visit and I highly recommend it

We went there for their onam sadya and my husband also ordered some extra non veg dishes. Food was authentic kerala cuisine and the ambience was great.
Definitely a place to go for kerala cuisine

We went to SMT for Onam Sadhya yesterday. The food was fantastic. We waited two hours to get a place, and that was coincidental. We didnā€™t expect to wait two hours on a working day and Mr. Singh was trying So valiantly to manage the throngs arriving in traditional festive attire :) In the expectation that weā€™ll just get our place, we ended up spending the hours waiting (good thing we had a big breakfast). Anyway, the sahdya was phenomenal, food was still hot even though we were served at 4pm (!) and the staff was super helpful and attentive. Great service (not expected on a day with such a crowd) and superb spread. Totally recommend this place. Go before 15th for lunch- theyā€™re still serving sadhya before they close for a two day holiday with the staff :))
Aziya
Went here for onam sadya today. First the system of calling people who are waiting is not at all organised. In our case itself, larger crowds who came after us were called in earlier while for us (just 2 ppl) it took 1.5 hours waiting time! And we were given table only after we went and argued with the person in charge. The food served would have been worth INR 200 with many main dishes not part of the sadya while the charge levied was INR 700! Payasam wasn't good as well. A very disappointing experience and totally not worth it! I would say ente keralam is much much better with tasty food, better service even though they charge about a few 100 bucks more

Went yesterdayĀ planning haveĀ Ā lunch I called at 1.30 pmĀ to checkĀ they said no reservations But youĀ can come . reache at 2,15 pm , they said 15 minute waiting , Out side board clearly indicated lunch But when inside heĀ says no lunch only Biryani is available! How rude you drive up all the wayĀ to getĀ disspointed. How unprofessional. they dont take bookingĀ & btreat you worst than aĀ street corner joint! gods save from his own country.

I had been to Salt Mango Tree in Indira Nagar a day before along with my family. As expected, food was awesome. Ambience was good and we had a lovely time having good food with family. However, one thing that bothers me is that the waiters while being friendly and always ready to assist, were talking behind our backs in Malayalam. They assumed that we don't understand the language and was passing comments on the quantity we ordered and about my family in general .. that one incident makes me to give a lower rating. Hope management educates their staff not to pass comments on customers assuming they don't understand. To conclude, good food. If you love Kerala cuisine, this is the place to be

Authentic Kerala food, across a wide variety of veg and non-veg options. Most popular are the beef/fish/regular meals that are served on banana leaf in unlimited quantities with the desired non-veg side dish. Malabar biriyani is also good and is available in chicken/beef/prawn options.
Could get very crowded during mealtimes and service takes a bit longer.
Jonathan George
Delicious food, exceptionally polite staff, spiffy service, all at an extremely reasonable price. Just an excellent experience. Drop by. You'll walk out smiling.

The bathroom at the restaurant opens into the area where food is served - definitely need to work on this as itā€™s very disgusting. The quality of beef definitely needs improvement. Food service needs improvement as we found the service to very slow and late and we were kept waiting. However have to definitely give a heads up to the payasam served - excellent

Chill , almost at home, ambience with attentive staff ensuring your thaali is always full of great tasting food. Loved the beef fry thaali and fish thaali. The veg sides of the thaali were yummy to even a only non veg eater such as me. Loved the jaggery dessert too! Went for the beef fry, going to go back for a lot more deliciousness. Thanks Salt Mango Tree for a good South Indian affair.

It is a beautiful restaurant with Authentic Kerala cuisine. I had veg Kerala meals and it was soo good(not pocket-friendly though). There is a separate outdoor sitting for the snacks.

Delicious food: nothing less, nothing more but awesomely delicious food. Tried king fish Biryani, vegetable malabar curry, wheat parota, and puttu. Finished the meal with refreshing lemon tea. Will come back soon.

Great place,good food,great staff.
food i have liked here:appam, kerela parotha, chicken roast, chicken stew(i love the way they prepare this)
Shravan Shetty
The Kerala meals are good here .what I love here is the evening counter where you can get hit lemon tea and Palmaburi and other snacks .
The ambience is of a open outdoor setting for the snacks which I quite like for a solitude experience of tea that's inexpensive
Krishna (foodieyogikrishna)
Came here for breakfast on a dear friend's suggestion . This is an a-typical Kerala cuisine restaurant ( compared to the old popular chains in Bangalore) . A house converted into restaurant , ambience is very relaxed with semi private sections . Hard steel chairs , so this place is designed to eat a quick meal and get out šŸ˜„šŸ˜„. The kadala curry and appam were standard fare served fresh and hot šŸ‘. The pazham pori was soft and good. Heard some good feedback about their meals . Will try one of these days

Oishi Lahiri
A beautiful little restaurant with authentic Kerala cuisine. I had a delectable fish meal which was nearly never-ending. Loved the mild spice and tanginess of the fish curry. Definitely value for money.
Pete Jaison
One of the best places to have Kerala food in Bangalore. Their Malabar chicken biriyani is to die for and even the meals are a solid 4. Ambience is not too great but definitely a must visit.
Prajisha P.K
Seeing the zomato rating , all of a sudden we decided to have lunch at salt mango tree before going home. We have had some yummy food when their outlet was in prestige Whitefield. Expecting the same quality we reached Salt mango tree at Indiranagar.
But we were highly disappointed after having the food. We ordered fish curry meals, seer fish fry , Kerala parotta and Kadala curry. Out of which parotta was the best. Kadala curry had too much masala, but still eatable.
Fish curry served with meals was horrible. Fish was not fresh. So I couldn't even have the curry.
Meals was below average, rice not cooked well, no taste in curry except their moru curry.
And the price they charge is just for the location they located, nothing else.
Now much more worst was their seer fish fry. When we got it first, it was not even fried properly. So we sent back. But later when I had, it was so rubbery and not that fresh I felt.
Unfortunately I couldn't resist giving this fish fry from my 3year old kid, as he loves fish fry. And now am paying for it. :( His stomach got terribly upset. And am sure that it's the fish fry which caused it as only we both had it and we both had issue with stomach.
I strongly feel it's the deep freezed seer fish, which actually stays for longer period. But how much ever you freeze it seafood or any meat loses its actual taste after few days ..
When you guys can't maintain the quality of food, just don't serve it..

Aishwarya
I loved this place , The staff was polite . I had velliappam and vegetable stew .Everything smelled like authentic Kerala food .Ghee Chicken Roast was also cooked to perfection and the spices , their fragrance reminded me of the local kerala practice of making spices at home . Even the fresh lime soda was so so great ! Definitely gonna visit again.
Pratyush Sinha
Amazing food, especially the raw mango dal and the fish!
Also try the passion fruit drink, it's utterly refreshing and with just a hint of chilli for a little kick
Kavya Jayan
Really loved the ambience here. Very quiet and cozy place. We came here for breakfast. Ordered appam and egg curry. It was super spicy and delicious. The tea served along with it could have been better.
Liz Varghese
Best Place for Kerala food in Indiranagar ,,Love this restaurant very much.Their service is very good,, they were asking multiple times if we need anything even if it was meals, they even offered second time payasam with meals.Mind and stomach full .
Shelza Chand
Ordered fish thali .. came with a soggy pappadum .. manager kindly replaced it ... thali for 225 bucks with a 2 inch piece of mackerel .. thatā€™s it ! I wouldnt say on taste it was the best but I have eaten better in messes . So ordered a spinach and prawn dish . Cost 350 .. came with 3 pieces of tiny shrimps. Asked the manager about it he said yes they put exactly 80g of shrimp with the dish ( that is probably with head and tail) . Neat and clean ambience .. but felt it was overpriced for the quality of food ..

By FAR the best mallu food in Bangalore. Friendly staff, simple and clean ambience. Extremely fast service.

Must try:
Beef Fry
Parupu manga curry
Prawns

My go-to lunch spot at least once a week.
Kirthi Shenoy
I had ordered breakfast a couple of times which was decent but when I went with my family for dinner I did not like anything. We ordered a fish platter which had bad stink. All the fishes were deep fried using the same oil and had weird unpleasant odour to them. Had ordered Biriyani which was decent. Overall bad experience.
Bharati
Decent and hygienic place. But No value for money. Biryani is highly over priced with just average taste. I have had kerala food in some restaurants which serves more tastier Biryani in half of this price. Other items were also not so great in taste.
Dhanajit Ray
Truly delightful, SMT sits in a cute corner in the bustling lanes of indiranagar. The place is mostly styled after a canteen but donā€™t let that fool you. The food is truly a culinary marvel and feels like a true taste of the south. A definite must try is the mango prawn curry.
Aarya Nath
I went here for dinner and lunch a couple of times.
Lunch was mind blowing, the most yummy and authentic kerala food I had in Bangalore and it was worth the money. Payasam was just out of the world and they didn't hesitate to give second servings.

Dinner was just okay and did not live up to my expectations.
We ordered varuth aracha chicken curry and chicken had an odd taste. Appam and beef was good. Porotto was just okayish.

Service was good.

Value for money 3/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5
Zubin Zafar
I've gone here multiple times and it used to be one of my favorites. I went here again with a team of 12 and I must admit, I wasn't too impressed.
The food was good, fresh and tasty. That's not the problem. The problem was the service.
In one word, abysmal. First of all they forgot to keep the pickles and 'chammandhi" and all that stuff on our tables so none of us got to taste it.
Secondly, they sat us in one room, which was fine, but then not a single waiter came to help us out with the meals that we had ordered. Half of us were just waiting for gravy or sides or whatever for most of the time.
Next , they forgot to bring fish curry for half of us and brought it pretty late, after many had already eaten most of their meal.
To top it all, they didn't have cuppa, neymeem, appam and something else that we asked for, and cuppa is a proper delicacy, pretty famous in Kerala.

All in all, it's kinda sad to see the standards of this place fall. The food was good, I'll give them that much. But the service was some of the worst I've seen.
Get your act together guys.
Vivek Padiyan
Food is okay, if you're prepared to wait hours for it. Couldn't even get a glass of water for the first half an hour. And we had to order and keep following-up before the food finally came. Guys, please improve your service levels!
Karishma Jayapaul
This was the fourth time I had been to this place and as usual they didn't have everything on the menu. They said they had the biryani festival going on and do not have anything except biryani. When they saw the look of disappointment on our faces they said we could have appams and stew (veg/non veg). The stew was average with very less chicken. Barely 5 tiny pieces. I paid Rs.950 for just 5 appams 1 portion of non stew and 1 portion of veg stew. Crazy expensive. And bad service. They didn't have water in the washrooms. No tap water. Only bottled drinking water. All in all a very bad experience. I spoke to them about this but they denied not having all the dishes available on their menu. Clearly not one fit for the service industry. Never going back here again.
Sharmila
So tired of searching good local food here. Hailing from Mumbai and being a foody, didn't wanna try those regular outlets . So searched and this name salt mango tree so catchy. We were very apprehensive. Reviews were good. Ambience simple ..No ac... ahhhh...But made up my mind on this place. Entrance is filled with some so very positive energy. Staff is super cool at your service. We ordered ghee roast chicken, coriander chicken for kids , paratha , chicken curry. Papad. And buttermilk was so so yummy. Ghee roast was something to die for. Very very hygienic. So clean. And the energy was superb.
P.S . Toilets were super clean. They have a special comod which kills bacteria. I was proud of my find. Sure to visit again.
Preethi John
We went twice there. One for lunch and dinner. The dinner time, the food was fine. We ordered kappa, meen curry, chemeen theeyal, rice, chemeen manga curry, appam, veg stew. The appam, chemeen theeyal and kappa was good. Rest was not satisfactory.
The lunch time we ordered veg, beef and chicken meals. All wasn't great. For the cost it wasn't great. We ordered fish fry and chemeen theeyal separately but still it wasn't good either.
Arun Kumar
Not happy with their food! The pothichoru is a scam. They sent only rice and nothing inside! Not happy with the taste n service. The delivered food was also bad.
Nishant
A great value for money outlet. Delicious food, fast service and a good price. Although the staff kept staring at our table which was obviously weird. Please ask your staff to stop ogling at the customers.

Been to this place a couple times. Recently went there for breakfast ā€“ and I think itā€™s going to become a regular.

The place is much like a house converted to a restaurant. Very minimalistic dĆ©cor ā€“ but well ventilated.

They asked if we wanted to start off with some tender coconut water ā€“ which we instantly jumped on. They gave us actual tender coconuts, which ere chilled (heavens!). What a treat.

They serve a variety of traditional Kerala breakfast food. We tried the appams and veg stew, and the masala dosa.

Finished off with some filter coffee.

A must visit place if you like Kerala cuisine, and a hearty pleasant meal.
Tanvi Singh
Having been exposed to typical Keralite food during an establishment of an ayyappan swami temple near my locality, I have had experience of an authentic thali there. My experience with Salt Mango tree of was similar kind. The staff is very nice and considerate. Special thanks to Vipin sir and the Head of their team who is managing the restaurant. I will highly recommend this place to all who are either trying kerala thali first time or are from Kerala. I am going next week again with my friend who is visiting. The place is very simple, clean, hygienic and its simplicity is its beauty. :) All the best team The Salt Mango tree. :)
Sunu Patrick
Feeling bad at your service.
I ordered fish curry pothichoru. But I received veg pothichoru. Even though the food was great, I felt bad for not getting what I required.
Linu Susan Charles
there was only gravy and very less chicken in the chicken stew
Susheela Francis
This place serves the best suleimani I ever had in Bangalore. The snacks are okay too.
The main course and s not impressive. It's pretty overpriced. But if you are looking for a place to hang out and have a great suleimani, this is the place for you.

P.S. Make sure that you are seated inside, so that you don't have to suffer because of the smokers near the gate.
Sarath Chandran
Today i ordered veg meals through zomatoĀ ,the meals and the packing was pathetic .some old paper with dirtĀ they used for packing .I need to use a lense for seeing theĀ side dishes they had provided .All mixed no salt no taste nothing first time ever I am writing a bad review for a food.
Sandeep Ankala
Salt Mango Tree is easily one of the best Kerala restaurants in Bangalore. They provide traditional choice of menu and have a cozy ambience. The food is excellent and completely authentic.

Walking down one of the by-lanes of 12th Main street at Indiranagar is this humble restaurant that appeals for it's menu.
My husband, on the lookout for a good appam & stew dish was very happy with the preparation. Chicken Stew was soothing while the Chicken Kerala Masala was packed with flavour. We complemented this meal with a good glass of buttermilk.

Moderately priced and full of flavour, this restaurant is a must visit if you are craving some good Kerala Food.

Tucked into one of the smaller lanes of Hal 1st stage, this place came to my notice when I was returning home after a super awesome biriyani feast at Aaha Andhra. I could not go that day, but it was always hovering in my radar. So a few days ago, when my wife was searching for a place to dine out, I suggested SMT. We did not have any starters and directly jumped onto the mains. While I chose wheat paratha and Varutharacha kozhi curry, my wife went with the evergreen combo of stew and appam. What amazing taste all of them had!!!! The spicy chicken curry and the creamy stew balanced our taste buds perfectly. I am sure the other dishes will be very good, so looking forward to paying my 2nd visit soon. Double thumbs up from my end.

A really good restaurant that stays true to itā€™s tagline ā€˜A Kerala Kitchenā€™.
Please visit this restaurant to have sumptuous Kerala food. The wheat paranthas are the best ones Iā€™ve tasted( itā€™s really light, flaky and delicious), the varutharacha kozhi curry is aromatic and flavoursome. Finally the payasam is a perfect way to top off the meal.
Do visit this restaurant which is true to its roots and delicious in its food.

Love the non veg meals here . The beef fry is heavenly. The non veg platter is a must try. Love the complimentary drink that they give you as soon as you are seated !

Ordered Fish Biryani and we're totally disappointed by the taste of it. It was nowhere close to the Fish Biryani's I had in Kerala.

The only thing I liked in the meal was their papad which helped me finish the meal.

Don't try to open the tall water bottle that they keep on every table. You are gonna pay 100 rupees for that !

The place is expensive in the first place and then their water-bottle marketing strategy just hits a nail in the hand! Pathetic!

A dinner night and 350 rupees that I regret spending !

The Kerala porotta was excellent.. likely one of the best in Bangalore. When we went there, the rice that went with the Fish curry meals and beef fry meals was white, Not the ideal red rice!!! The beef fry with the meals was yummmy...so were the touching of pickles, chutney etc. The Chicken Green chilly curry tasted like Fish Moilee, good but should it be so; we might as well have ordered fish moilee??? The Chicken roast didn't have any piece at all, so the bearer went back to fill in the pieces...and in the end we got a few, as in really a few added in by afterthought!!! Taste was like Egg Roast...no blames there, coz I liked it!!! Overall if you want a decent experience with Kerala food, go there...it's clean, and the food tastes nice, but Nothing exceptional!!! A bit overpriced for the quantity served, that's for sure!!!

Been a regular for breakfast here for some time, the Appam and stew used to be nice. Today's experience was quite bad. Cold Appams (seems like the new cook doesn't know how to make apppam). Watery stew, watery horrible tea, no one to wait on the tables (one couple walked out after not getting their order). Indifferent waiters who don't understand Malayalam. I hope you guys get back to being a nice malayalee restaurant. First get your old cooks back or else don't keep the place open for breakfast for such a substandard experience

The ambience and decor is super simple, and it's a place to go if your aim is just food. However, the food was disappointing as everything was just average. It tasted like the cook have up at the last moment, or wasn't interested. It lacked flavour, it wasn't bad at all but that we were left hanging. We went home with a full tummy bit unfulfilled expectations.

Ordered food on 8th Jan from salt mango tree Indiranagar. white rice, fish fry, wheat parota, peas curry and dal curry. Dal and wheat parota was nice. Rice was bad as if it was cooked earlier and just before delivery it was soaked in hot water and drained. Peas curry was not fresh. Fish ordered was one whole mackerel @ 145 INR and it was very bad. Tasted stale and no masala at all. For the amount this restaurant charges, I expected good tasty food. But sorry, this is a total disappointment.

Kerala food has always been love at first bite for me and this place lives upto (or I must say even exceeds) my expectation and high standards I have set for this cuisine.
Firstly the ambiance is simple, clutterfree and spacious (as it is set in a bunglow). They have not overdone it like its other contemporaries. They have a wall dedicated to all the great personalities from Kerala who have made the state proud.Had a great time reading about them while waiting for the food.
Secondly the staff was very courteous and proactive (something you don't easily spot in Bangalore).
Lastly what left a lasting impression was the food.Finger licking awesome! We ordered for chicken ghee roast, prawn masala, appams and a very refreshing Nannadi Sarbath.Every dish was burst of flavours in our palate.
Surely worth many more visits

I am giving them a 5 star rating specially for their amazing Appam & Veg Stew.
This places serves authentic yummy Kerala food.

I also tried Kerala Rice along with Chemeen Thiyal & Chemeen Manga Curry (both prawns curry), Allepey King Fish Curry. Everything tasted yumm. The fish curries were served in earthern pots.

I will definitely recommend this place if you love Kerala food.

Food - 5/5
Service - 4/5
Ambience - 3.5/5
Hygiene - 4/5
Staff behavior - 4/5

Typical kerala veg thali. Side dish serving was very good. I liked the dry style aviyal. Sambar needs little more spicing. Ended with payasam šŸ˜Š
On my next visit I will try non vegetarian
Ridiculous.....! The service boy was busy with his facebook friend ....! Table looks clean but smells like .....! Just keep your empty napkin holders out of the table....! You must remind the service boy to bring plates, or you have to had food from service bowls....! Donā€™t feel wonder when steward treats you like a prison mate or stray dog....! But the food was amazing if there is no food available anymore

Used to be one of my favorite lunch places on the weekends, but unfortunately the love is lost with what they've become now. Had a bland fish curry, and the service was extremely pathetic for a rather non busy hour. At one point, The entire tables around me were not getting serviced.

Excellent place to savour appam and mutton/chicken stew for dinner. The meals served at lunch are delicious.
One ought to try the Kreme Kerala for dessert

Disappointed with my experience. The food is overpriced, and the quantity and quality vastly disprotionate with the price. The price seems to be stem from the location rather the standard of good. Worth a loss.
The feeling: to want to come back again and again because every time you think of SMT your mouth waters :)

I am of the personal belief that the healthiest food is the one made fresh locally and SMT bears testimony to that. I eat here very frequently because of ...

The meals: whether itā€™s vegetarian or fish curry or chicken meals they do it well. Please donā€™t go comparing this to Nagarjuna meals or MTR meals this is Kerala meals so it IS going to be different. Itā€™s coconut based, meat/fish included and with red rice and mellow Malabar spices occupying pride of place. The important thing is it is tasty, close to the real Kerala stuff as you can get in Bangalore and is satisfying

Food: every dish is worth the price you pay.
No matter how much you eat it never gives you the jeepers. Itā€™s spiced right and authentic to the nature of the cuisine. Apart from the meals do try their biryani or the various meat dishes they have on offer. Their appam and stew in the morning with an omelette on the side is a terrific start to a weekend :)

Price: for the quality and quantity itā€™s priced right. Now they are slightly pricier than their other nearby Kerala cousins like shaap or motis kitchen or green pepper but unlike these hoi polloi eateries they are bang on in taste and quality.

If you are looking for a good and satisfying and not to mention healthy Kerala meal or your Sunday fix of a sinful biryani head here right away and you will not be disappointed. All the Malayali families thronging this place every day for lunch underlines why SMT is worth you time, money and effort. Thank you SMT for many rocking afternoon lunches with coffee on the side and conversations with my loved one :)

S and I rarely eat Malayali Food at restaurants because if thatā€™s what we have a hankering for we can simply walk across to his Grandmaā€˜s place down the road from home. We are also very constructively critical of Malayali food, especially the tenderness of the beef after itā€™s cooked and the tastiness of the masalas used.

We do love to indulge in the delicious food at Thattukadas and Shaaps when we travel to Kerala.

So when friends told us about the unlimited Thattukada experience in the Salt Mango Tree, we were excited to try it.

It was absolutely worth it; there was so much variety and it was so yummy and authentic!

Iā€™m going to recommend this place to the rest of my family.

Food : Taste 3.5/5, Quantity: 3/5
Service :5/5,
Ambience: 3/5

Food :
We had Kingfish Ollichathu : Both Taste and Quantity were pathetic.

Another was Pachamulaku Chicken Curry: Taste was good and quantity was also fine.

Their wheat Parothas are good, unlike other typical South Indian eateries

Ambience : It's simply a bungalow converted to a restaurant all painted in plain white. Iron stools, chair and typical wooden tables as you see in schools.

Service : Staff is courteous and responsive

Located on a cross road OffĀ 12th Main Indira Nagar, Salt Mango Tree offers Kerala Food. We ordered Chicken Porichathu (Kerala version of Chicken Kabab) & Banana Flower Cutlet (Vazhapoo Cutlet). Here the cutlet scored above the chicken fry, which I feel was a bit on oily side. The cutlet & the ketchup made from Beetroot was good. Main course was Kerala Meals served on Banana Leaf, Erachi Briyani. Biryani was pretty average nothing great but the Kerala Meal served was good,Ā both in quantity , quality & number of items served. The service was good. Overall it was a good experience.

This place continues to be on my to-visit list. Ordered in a couple of dishes which has whetted my appetite for more.
Excellent - Chicken Varatharachathu. Has the authentic Kerala flavour and aroma that I was craving.
Average - Chicken Varathathu( Fry). While the portion size is generous, I did not like the saunf in the marinade which completely overwhelmed everything else. For kababs, i think I will stick to Bheemaā€™s.

Can give 4.5 stars but the healthy food there is little too healthy for me as the rice little less thick them marbles. Kerala rice.
Also was disappointed with the service a little just the response delay.

A decent place for trying kerala cuisine. The ambience is pleasing.

We ordered allepey fish curry, kallumakkai, malabar fish curry and coriander chicken (along with steamed rice) and buttermilk.

The chicken dish was really good. A unique taste which was really good.

Kallumakai (mussels) fry was decent. But not the best.

Fish curry (both) were disappointing. The quality of fish you expect from a kerala restaurant was not at all met. Mango curry didnā€™t have the flavour of mango. Both the curries were disappointing. In fact we had to even ask to change one curry because it tasted really bad.

Overall not so happy with the food for the price we paid.

I would recommend trying better places for fish.

I am normally very skeptical of providing highest rating to a place that has not been around forever (decades usually) .. Salt Mango Tree misses out being rated 5 stars only on that high bar as otherwise the place is beyond spectacular in every regard - food, taste, service and value. It is such a privilege to go a restaurant that understands the nuances of regional tastes, appreciates the soul of underlying cuisine (north Kerala specialities in this instance) and stays true to the complexities of delicacy in its preparation and presentation.. the more common version is dilution of intent to appeal to a larger audience.. I am hoping Salt Mango Tree remains original in this regard for a long period.. full meals, coriander pepper chicken and anjal fry.. Donā€™t need anything more to say. Just have to get down to eating! Salt Mango Tree = Joy of Kerala food = Happiness!
