AMAZING food and AMAZING service! Hands down the best dining experience I've had in Chennai. Don't miss out on the Bailey's crème brûlée!
One of my best dining experience in chennai at this European restaurant under the supervision of Chef Vignesh. Food was absolutely fantastic and prepared extremely well whether it were the prawns / lobsters / John Dory fish with lobster sauce and well grilled lamb! The cocktails were also great. Must visit while in chennai and do go with Chef Vignesh’s special !! Absolutely outstanding !! Highly recommended!
Being a foodie , I get to travel all over and have had the privilege to taste some great food . But On the Rocks definitely was a welcome surprise ! The restaurant ambience itself is wonderful , and the service/ kitchen staff made the entire experience just WOW ! I we had the following : focaccia w/ sun dried tomato pate, hearty chicken broth w/ basil oil n radish cress, broccoli n stilton soup,
Starters was basil scented chicken and prawns & pineapple skewers w/ smoked bbq sauce. main course we had the New Zealand lamb loin w/ mash potatoes, buttered vegetables and red wine jus, and the pan-seared lobster w/ black rice, haricot vert and sake butter sauce w/ kiwi caviar. Anyone visiting Chennai should dine here for sure , a true testament to quality food , tastefully made and served with passion ! Keep it up guys ... will be back for sure !
We were a party of 12 and had an amazing dinner at OTR. We had the baked Camembert, smoked duck salad, crab cakes and seared scallops. Out of these, our favourites were the outstanding smoked duck and crab cakes. The baked Camembert was good but not to everyone’s taste as it is served with a honey based sauce.
For mains, we shared the beef steak, grilled lobster, country style chicken and pumpkin ricotta ravioli. All of them were fabulous.
Desserts that we shared were the chocolate Cointreau, chocolate hazelnut crunch and the blueberry white chocolate. Our favourites were the first 2. Delicious !
All in all, a meal to remember for a long time. We’ll be visiting again, soon !
Exceptional food, lovely place. We had a family dinner there last night. The Duck Starter and the Cheese Salad were just mouth watering - sort of to die for. We followed it up a a pumpkin saffron soup. For main courses, we had the fish dory and a lamb rump, both just followed in the same category of could not be better, it is so good. The semifreedo dessert was really nice too. Thanks to some exceptional food recommendations from Krishnan who helped serve us and from Chef Deva and other Chefs.

Best place to sit, eat good food, have a drink and most importantly, be able to have a conversation, without loud music, noisy crowds or weird entry requirements/restrictions/cover charges.
Food/Drink: 5/5 – Our starters were fried squid, paneer, chicken wrapped in bacon and Mediterranean lamb kebab, which were very filling on their own with the drinks. We had Melontini, Cosmopolitan, and Jameson on the rocks. They do have a fine selection of wine, hard liquor and cocktails. Unlimited salted snacks are served too, but my advice would be to binge on that yet. They serve mainly continental food, in 2 styles – the traditional A la carte and the unique live table-top cooking type. If you like to experience something different, go for the second option, which is actually a 3 course full meal. They have hotpot cooking and on the rock (hot limestone) cooking, with an option of having unlimited meat. We tried the On the rock style with grilled chicken. They serve the raw meat and you can cook it to your liking on the table, oil-free. Sauces are served to flavor as per your desire.
Ambience: 5/5 – It appears to be located in a lonely or secluded part of the Hotel, and you will not even notice it unless you look closely. Once you open the door there are 2 levels - the lower level is mainly for hanging out, having a drink and some sides; and the upper level has a dining area. Either way, they do serve food down too, so it does not matter where you sit.
Dim lit dining areas and soft music make it a good place for a date too.
Service: 5/5 – Great service! The waiter would explain how their food options work and even assist you if you opt for the live table-top cooking option. When the lamb kebab was not up to our liking, the Chef was kind enough to give us another serving prepared the way we wanted. That really made our evening!
Food and beverages are expensive here. But of course, it is in a 5 star property. However, the overall dining experience you get here is worth it!
Excellent services received during my stay. Well done to Krishnan, Karthick, Surya and Vijay. Whenever i come i will get good wine recommendation here and i like the smoking room with cigar.
Wonderful experience dining at ‘ On the ROCKS’ at Crowne Plaza. I had attended the Salads class years ago when the restaurant was opened and I was happy to once again taste the salads which were crunchy and flavourful. The MESCLUN salad was superb and so was the Chicken Lemongrass soup and the broth was light and delicious .
On the Rocks has three different concepts
HOT POT, ON THE ROCKS and ON THE PLATE.
The menu is interesting and I selected Jumbo Prawns which I was able to grill on the table directly. There is a choice of spring chicken and lamb loin as well.I was given a chef s cap and apron and I enjoyed grilling and it’s accompanied by a choice of rubs and sauces.I chose Mediterranean herbs and chilli plum sauce .
My kids enjoyed the Tortellini pasta with water chestnuts as well. However what deserves a special mention is the FOCACCIA pull apart bread and truly it’s the best I have had and the guests are given a pod of roasted garlic dripping with olive oil which we can slather liberally on the bread.
The desserts include lip smacking ice creams and the pastry chef Chef Karthik s Chocolate delicious is too delicious sans gelatine and a lovely cocoa crumb topping .
Kudos to the Executive Chef Deva Kumar and Chef Vignesh of ‘On the Rocks’ and Mr Anand Krishnan for making it a unique dining experience.
God Bless
Went as a couple, to celebrate my hubby bday.. The ambiance was absolutely wonderful and i had arranged for a candle light dinner.. Wonderful meal and menu over there and it was perfectly served by the waiter.. Special thanks to Mr Krishan who made the moment so lively with his friendly nature..
I happen to dine at On the Rocks, Crowne Plaza’s split-level fine dining restaurant and it was truly a unique experience. They had introduced a new concept called ‘on the plate’ and ‘on the bowl’ which is
a new concept serving an array of international grilled food and steaks accompanied with a fine selection of wines.
What is ‘on the plate’?
Executive Chef Deva Kumar has curated a special 3 and 5 meat grilled option as well as vegetarian delights, with each one of them offering distinctive taste. Choicest exotic meat from around the world and vegetables are grilled and served with some exquisite sauces like the blue cheese sauce, Chimichuri, Smoked Tomato Salsa to name a few. On the other hand, ‘on the bowl’ is a make your own meal kind of concept where you are given a hot lava stone bowl and you can pair ingredients to your taste.
We tried the 5 starters ‘on the plate’ menu. We were asked if we had any preference in meat. We avoided pork and beef.
To begin, we had a bowl of salad with mixed lettuce, cherry tomatoes, avocado and feta cheese in honey. I usually enjoys salads but this one in particular was so good that I talk about it till date. the avocados added a nice buttery texture. Loved it.
A plate with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables were served at the beginning of the main course while the grilled meat was brought one after another. First we were served with a simple Chicken satay which was really nice.
The Smoked duck was one of my favourites. The meat was tender with the edges nice and crispy. It had a lovely smoked flavour. Simply exotic. The taste still lingers in my mind. It’s one of those dishes that you want a second or even a third helping of.
The tiger Prawns were mildly seasoned and grilled. It’s quite challenging to cook the prawns to the right texture when you grill it. It can either be undercooked or turn rubbery if cooked more than required. They nailed the texture.
Most of the dishes that had come in was mildly spiced and I was wondering why there were mashed potatoes on my plate. But then we got to taste the lamb, I had my answer. A good-sized portion of the lamb imported from Australia was served and I was quite skeptical about it. I usually don’t enjoy the meat. As I began cutting it I found the meat to be a little fibrous. Once I got to taste it, all my reservations about the meat were gone. The lamb was oozing with so much flavour. It seemed like it was marinated and slow cooked. The meat was very juicy and it had a robust flavour. It was rightly spiced and the mashed potatoes went so well with this.
DESSERTS
Every chocoholic’s dream is to indulge in some dark and decadent chocolate. When I pick a dessert to eat I would expect the quality of chocolate to be really good and I was floored with both desserts that were served that night.
COST
INR 2950++ (three grilled meat, Wine/cocktail)
IN A NUTSHELL
On the Rocks is the place to head to when you want to have a different dining experience and want to feast on exotic ingredients and meat in the lap of luxury.

Went there for Festa de Portugal, a beautifully crafted 6 course meal inspired by the travels of Vasco Da Gama. Loved it and the service was amazing!
Very nice little bar with an excellent view to the ocean, even when it's 33 degree you have the cool breeze from the ocean. Was eating there every night when I was staying at Intercontinental hotel. Love it ♥️
The service was absolutely fantastic, as was the food! They catered extremely well for my gluten free dietary requirements and went above and beyond to ensure I was happy with my food. Krishnan especially was the perfect host and a delight to converse with, writing us a list of places we must visit after we asked for his recommendations on what we should see. On our final night we were surprised with a special cocktail and a ‘bon voyage’ cake which meant the world to us. Sad to say goodbye and would recommend On The Rocks to everyone!
Nice, quiet place with a good service
The ambience from the outside is awesome
The rooms are relatively small and traditionally signed.
The place gives you a look of modern and a palatial mix kind of look.
Good stay but old property. Maintained and little overpriced
Good place. Friendly staff and well maintained premises. For a high end hotel the price is fairly on the affordable side.
