Review Stix - Chennai (Madras)

This "Fusion" Chinese restaurant is really nice, the layout is nice, open kitchen in the middle, seating area is comfortable, the service was wonderful and the food was tasty! I ordered lamb & pork fried rice, fried noodle, and braised pork. Although the price is on the high side, I still think it's worth to try!

Wonderful place to dine in. We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was so good. The Sichuan hot & sour soup was delicious. The chef had customised it as per our taste which was a wow factor. We had chicken spring roll & crystal prawn dimsum as starters. The dimsums were surreal in terms of taste & texture. The spring roll was good. For the main course, we had, Barbeque chicken egg fried rice & Shui zhu lamb. Both were so tasty. The lamb was tender & cooked to perfection. Finally we had cheesecake pastry for the birthday rituals. The surprising part was they didn't have a celebration cake. The price was too high. We spent 5k+ in above items. The ambience of the restaurant & hotel lobby is just average.

This is arguably the best restaurant I’ve been in Chennai. Chef Vignesh prepared a gorgeous dinner for us. The service is fantastic. Melody and Jen served us like a king, with beautiful smile. Food choices are very good. Highly recommended.

Stix at Hyatt serves a very small but nice Chinese menu. They have expert chefs coming from around the country and world to bring in their special asian food.

I had the best Chinese food in Chennai at this restaurant. The food taste so amazing with the service matching. The restaurant team know what to recommend and how to serve every single dish, also they are very organized as they bring out the food in proper order. If you are Asian you will understand what this means.

Was @Stix last nite, Absolutely delighted with the Ambiance, Variety of Great Food and Choice of Drinks. Very helpful F&B Supervisor Priya Chettri made all the difference with her very friendly approach in selection of food and drinks and taking utmost care to make me comfortable. Great place to visit time and again. Gets 5/5 from me in all parameters.

Had visited the place with high expectations . Ordered dimsums for starter and didn't like it at all . Felt like it had absolutely no taste . Continued with crispy baby corn , which was actually good as the corn was crisp and made with perfection With adequate amount of spice and less oil . For the maincourse had five spice rice and a gravy mixed vegetable side which again was a disappointment as both of it were bland and lacked any spiciness .
Also the service was extra ordinarily slow , took around 45min to prepare the dish. They had a garlic sauce which was the only game saver the entire time .
Gave them 2 stars as they made their dumplings complimentary along with baby corn , but overall the experience was very bad and wasn't worth the price paid for it .

I guess this is the only Chinese restaurant in Chennai to serve fresh seafood. Ambiance and service are excellent hence this restaurant deserves 5 star rating. The restaurant also serves good international wine.

I visited this place for dinner, because I was staying at Hyatt Chennai and I felt like having some Asian food.

Food: 3/5
Ambience: 4/5
Service: 5/5

Starters:
I ordered lamb dumplings. They are soft juicy and generous filling of minced lamb pieces. It tasted good.

Main Course:
I ordered twice cooked crispy noodles with fried egg and chicken in xo sauce. It had fried egg, chicken, veggies like lotus stem, carrots, lettuce, baby corn, broccoli and noodles served in a mild sauce. It was cooked well. Chicken pieces were soft and tender. The dish tasted OK.

They also served complimentary popcorn and some jasmine tea, while we wait for our order.
Vikram
Been there a few times but first time had a complete meal - kicked off with the Sichuan pepper chicken ( this has got to be one of their best dishes !) and some lotus stem. Some assorted dimsums were next on the table - moist and with good stuffings. The noodles and burnt garlic rice was also well made and we had a couple of good main dishes with chicken and vegetables - good service to round off - will be there more often - nice bar around the restaurant too

I had been here for dinner quite a few times. But when I went a couple of days back the experience was not that great. The chicken in the barbequed chicken and egg fried rice was over cooked. Meaty smell from the chicken wasn’t appreciated. The chicken dim sums were a treat. The staff could have been more responsive. Other than that, it is a great place to go and hangout with your friends and family. And moreover they are having a change in their menu sometime next month. So do check it out.

Am a big fan of their business lunch.. 2 star less is mainly cos of their restlessness to send the guests out after 2:30 is a big turn off! It's not only with Stix at Hyatt, I have noticed a similar rude behavior with ppl at Focaccia as well.. Take a note of your behaviour and am sure you guys will be even more better!
Dim sum fest with chef Zhang will give a escatcy of tasting sichuanese to the fullest.. This fest happens from June 1st to 10th at Hyatt regency.
The chef had flewed all the way from Mumbai to marshal this fest.
This little little happinezzzzz in form of dumplings will definitely add dimples to ur cheek.. which not at all end up in monotonous taste..
Steamed spinach prawns and lobster dumplings
Prawns with spinach will give u a greeny feel. Lobster were juicy and spicy . Prawns and spinach were perfectly cooked and outer coat was deliciously steam boiled.
Crystal prawns and fish egg were unique combination.. golden layer of prawns was delight to eat.
Pan fried pork pot stickers
Crispy and mouth watering delicious dumplings I could ever taste. Meat was perfectly cooked and sauce added extra maast to it.
Kung pao chicken bao
Its rymhic enough to give a rymhic taste in our tongue. Spicy colours dressed with different bell peppers gives u a perfect dressed up dish.
Deep fried black pepper chicken
One could feel the crispyness and peppery flavour in this dish.. chicken was tender and fresh.
Obvious that came out with a cute smile and dimples in my cheek.. Thanks to the chef for he is kind and friendly enough to give us maast experience with dumplings.

It's quite funny that I've been to Stix in Hyatt Regency a number of times and yet haven't reviewed them once on Zomato, so here goes one! Though I love their noodles and starters, this time I was here for their dim sums festival. Chef Zhang has come down from Mumbai to give us Chennaites something more than the regular chicken and prawn dumplings. And that was apparent the minute we saw the specially curated menu which has a plethora of options to choose from, for both veggies and carnivores.

Since I'm the latter, I opted for the non-vegetarian options and I got to try the Steamed Spinach Prawns, Steamed Lobster Dumplings, Crystal Prawns with Fish Egg, Pan Fried Pork Pot-Sticker and as well as Kung Pao Chicken Bao and the Deep Fried Black Pepper Chicken. The Steamed Spinach Prawns dumplings were more of prawns wrapped in prawns before being completely wrapped with the pasty and who would've ever known green leaves and seafood would make such a lovely couple? Only when you think dumplings can come in very few shapes and sizes, the Steamed Lobster Dumplings changes that opinion. This artistically designed dim sums just has enough space on top to accommodate three small cubes of coloured bell peppers. It was so well made that it almost took my focus away from the perfectly cooked lobster filling. The Crystal Prawns with Fish Egg, as the name implies, has a topping of black fish roe. They aren't caviar but the taste of the flavour of fish eggs bursting is a delightful experience nevertheless. I loved the Kung Pao Chicken Bao too and the fact that the baos' are shaped like shells did put a smile on my face. The Deep Fried Black Pepper Chicken thanks for its flaky exterior and extremely hot fillings - despite being on the table for a considerable amount of time. Even then, it was delicious. I also personally loved how they incorporated water chestnuts in a few of the dim sums which gave a fine crunch to the soft meat fillings.

The vegeratian dim sums are priced at around Rs 475 while the non-veg ones cost another Rs 50 extra. For the variety and scrumptious options they have, it's definitely worth a shot. The festival runs till the 10th of June 2018.

I had heard a lot about the Oriental Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency, Chennai, called Stix.
The menu is simple yetequally balanced between vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
The first pic is of the oncredibly delicious Hot and Sour Soup loaded with some extra tofu (as per my request). Swipe to see other dishes:

Eggplant in a sweet and spicy sauce: This dish was good but i found the sauce to be overbearing both in terms of its taste and quantity. The flavourof the eggplant was completely lost. If you are ordering this dish, then request the chef to reduce the quantity of sauce.

Bouquetiere Fried Rice: A simple yet delicious dish made with sticky rice. Goes very well with the Eggplant dish.

Decent ambience but food is average and oily. Fried fish starter was not up to the mark. Yang Zhou fried rice was decent. Another annoying part was mosquito bites during the entire sitting time

Stix is a specialty Chinese restaurant at Hyatt Regency, Teynampet. The ambiance is large dim-light dining space with an open kitchen. . We tried the corporate lunch menu from which we had a choice of starters, mains and some lavish desserts. Their business lunch menu is a three course set meal consisting of appetizer, mains and dessert.

Friend took me to dinner there. Nice place at first glance. It's aesthetically pleasing, the layout is great and the slow music playing in the background was very soothing. The host and waiters are very good. The oolong tea they serve is really good. A lovely touch of hospitality. We ordered only three dishes as they serve quite the quantity. We had the seafood dumpling, the bokchoy and mushroom in Oyster sauce and the double fried crispy noodles. The dumplings were great. The fish was good and the dumpling light. The crispy noodles too was very good. The bokchoy was cooked great, the oyster sauce was good however the shiitake mushrooms were overcooked. The quantity was so much that we couldn't even finish the food.
Overall, great place. Lovely ambience, the food is good, the service is good. It's ideal for some authentic, high end Chinese food.

The Stix at Hyatt Regency happens to be one of the premier Chinese restaurant's in the city. The ambiance feels very pleasant with the dim lights just about ideal for a private fine dining rendezvous. The decor is super comfortable and cozy. It is one place you can go without any inhibitions as the end result will most likely end up pleasing you.

We were here on an invite to try out the Business Lunch menu. I chose the veg option and the choices happen to be pretty good. There is no soup and we straight away got on with the starters. The good thing here is that unlike the usual expected bets, there were some unexpected twists. Lotus stem was something radical for a starter which I immensely enjoyed. It was slightly tangy and it was enjoyable consuming this which had the right juice and spice. The momos were more of the expected stuff and it tasted how it should. And on the slightly spicier side, we were provided a chilli based spring beans titled as "Dou Ban Jiang". It was nicely seasoned and pretty flavourful.

On the main course side, the 5 spiced fried rice was quite good having a strong essence of various spices and it was a little sticky in texture. The pan fried noodles was quite a meal by itself with benevolent topping of szcheuan sauce on top of the crispy noodles along with veggies for company. And for company we had a broccoli and lotus stem made in black bean sauce which went really well with both the rice and noodles. The chinese style chilli vegetables also proved to be able foil being curried nicely with plenty of different veggies.

The food was overall very good but the best part was reserved for the last with the dessert fare. We also got to sample a few from the nearby Italian neighbour Foccacia and they turned out to be absolutely wonderful. From the attic of Stix, I absolutely fell for the Fried Ice cream which was rolled like a blanket quilt with vanilla ice cream oozing from the inset with nuts and raisins decorated at the top along with a touch of raspberry jam and a maple dip for company. The whole delicacy was both chunky and crunchy. The berry cheese cake too was no slouch by being rich on taste and melting like marmalade on the mouth. It was definitely one of the better cheese cakes which I have consumed.

From the larger picture, the meal was a sure shot win. It covered most grounds and also ended up being good on most fronts. The service was amiable and friendly. They didn't take too much time in between dishes and they were ever courteous and acceding to all our requests. As the meet was over am invite, I will refrain from commenting about the prices. This business lunch is certainly a good deal put up by Hyatt and is certain to satisfy your taste buds.

I was invited by fellow foodies to join them for dinner at Stix- Hyatt Regency's Chinese themed restaurant. The restaurant is one of the many housed within this 5 star property so valet parking is deffinitely taken care of. For those who might get confused with the brand name Hyatt since there is one more in the city, the one that we visited is on the famed Mount Road (Anna Salai) right next to Kalaignar TV office. As we arrive little early and waited for others to join in, we were asked by the gracious hosts if we would like to start proceedings with a hot cuppa of green tea, some peach flavored ice tea and some appetizers too. Since I am not so fond of tea, I offered to skip the hot variant but did try the other one. It was very refreshing especially for the weather that I asked for a repeat too.

The starters included fried lotus stem sweet and spicy, dou ban jiang style string beans and a steamed dimsum with lots of vegetables. The lotus root predominantly used in Indian and Chinese cuisine is the part of the flower that is found under the water. It is widely known to have multiple medicinal properties including being a rich source of Vitamin C and quite a few essential minerals. Interestingly, I found it to have a similar texture and taste as a water chestnut would. The lotus stem cooked for us was well made with perfect medley of sweet and spicy flavors. It was a good beginning indeed. The next to arrive was the dimsums. The dimsums were steamed to perfection and served the traditional way in a wooden basket. Generally they were offered as snacks along with tea in tea houses established on the ancient silk road. This tradition as I was told was called yum cha which when translated meant drink tea and is a popular practice in different parts of China.

The dou ban jiang was very well made and it was fascinating to savour it. Douban is a type of chilli bean sauce which has notes of spicy and salty flavor made with fermented broad beans, soy beans, salt, rice and other Chinese seasonings. It is a popular dish in Sichuan cuisine and one of the very few vegetarian offerings available in that part of the world. It was beautifully made that I asked for a repeat and also fascinated me to try it at home. I must admit that it didn't turn out to be as good as the one that I was offered at the restaurant. We had plenty of offerings as part of the main course and that included five spiced fried rice, pan fried noodles along with few curries like broccoli, lotus stem in black bean sauce and also sichuan chilli vegetables with cashew nut.

The five spiced fried rice was quite tasty and it had ample notes of the Chinese 5 spiced seasoning. Predominantly the 5 spices include star anise, cloves, cinnamon, sichuan pepper and fennel seeds. There are few others who use licorice, cardamom, ginger , turmeric too. We all know China and India had lots of trade links in the past with the Cochin based Chinese fishing nets being one example. Possibly that's why we see some similarities in the spices being used. The broccoli and lotus stem was good too and I preferred the black bean sauce even more. The black bean sauce gets its colour from fermented soy beans also known as douchi. The sichuan styled lotus stems was well made too and had some similar vegetables too.

The pan fried noodles which was a meal by itself with crispy fried noodles on the bottom and a huge portion of sauce smothered on top to perfection. As far as I know of, pan fried noodles is a quirky addition to Chinese cuisine and their way of staying relevant yet being deeply rooted. Having had sumptuous portion of both the starters and main course, we moved on to savour their signature desserts. The berry cheese cake and their famed fried ice creams being the two desserts that were chosen for the day. The cheese cake was an absolute delight and possibly the work of an artisan. The mild flavored cheese cake was enhanced by a gentle smothering of berry compote. The biscuit base was quite crunchy and made to perfection. Although the cheese cakes have no Chinese roots, it was indeed an welcome addition.

The fried ice cream was another gem. It was picture perfect with a huge pillow sized portion of vanilla ice cream fried and gently topped with delectable nuts including cashew nuts, almonds and walnuts. Dollops of raspberry marmalade poured with love on top served along with a portion of maple syrup. The dessert was amazing and would have loved to have even more.Although they have been traditionally associated with Asian cuisine, it is imperative to mention that it has roots in the US. While the Mexican and American versions use breaded batter and immediately deep fried, Asians prefer using tempura batter especially the Japanese. Overall, good service, fairly good main course & appetizers and brilliant desserts was our meal in a nutshell. However, my only suggestion or the are of improvement would be to reduce the emphasis on lotus stems and include other vegetables more often too. Stix is indeed a good option for vegetarians too who would like to savour Chinese cuisine and I am glad that they have succumbed to serving only Indo Chinese food but looked to think beyond it.

I had lunch in stix . Wow nice service and amazing food I never like to take the soup but my friends is there just try and have it I just tried free is awesome the food spices everything will be perfect and I love it love to come

I have gone to Stix, three nights in a row. And I haven't regretted that decision. India has a lot of restaurants that play around with Asian flavours, be it fusion or indo-Chinese, but none quite capture it like Stix.

I would suggest, to order everything on their menu. Their dumplings, are perfectly soft; the soup, flavourful; the main course; accompanied by sticky rice (as it should be); and their dessert, perfect.

Yes, the flavours may be a little bland for the Indian palette, but with a slight sense of adventure, be prepared to be amazed, and simultaneously let down by any Chinese you've eaten in the past, or are about to in the future.

We loved the food at stix. We'd gone for lunch and the extensive vegetarian menu was great! The decor is simple and stylish and the service was superb.

Taste:2 Service :4 Ambiance:4 VFM:2.5
I was excited to get in to this place. Went for a dinner over here with friends. Taste was not that good. I would say food is horrible, being a star hotel. Way below the expectations. Mocktails were just ok. Not worst the price we pay.
Mohan Ranga
I didn't like the food, and it is very expensive...
Food : 2.5
Ambiance and service are awesome
---------------------------------------------

Went here for my birthday dinner.
Definitely one of those not so satisfying experiences.
The ambience and the place was nice, but didn't really like the food.
Not that tasty and very limited items.
Very less quantity due to which one would think if it's worth the cost?!
Overall experience was okay.
One can visit if they wanna have a different and a pleasant dinner.
Priya Mathan
Been here several times over the years. Easily one of the best in the city be it the ambience or the taste. I personally enjoy their lotus stem preparation.
Paradise Foodie
This is probably our favourite Chinese restaurant to visit in the city. While there are other Chinese restaurants that we like, unlike any of the others, we have never had a bad experience here in either the food or the service. Yesterday's order was chicken and corn soup, lotus steam crisp fried and mushroom sautéed with vegetables for appetisers.

P.S. This review is for the ongoing August Moon festival (ends on 18th).
Stix, the authentic Chinese restaurant (specializing in Sichuan and Cantonese cuisines) at Hyatt Regency is hosting August Moon festival – the Traditional Harvest festival of China (to know more scroll to the bottom of this blog or google ) from 9th – 18th of the month. It is a separate ala carte menu comprising of handpicked, very authentic dishes curated by their native chefs – Chef Win and Sun.
A classy restaurant with dim lighting, perfect for a date or even a quite family dinner.

For the bloggers’ table, the August Moon menu was further handpicked and cut down into a smaller one. Whilst we were enjoying our drinks (ordered from their regular menu) the food started flowing in.
Asmita Madhu
It's festival time all around the continent. China celebrates a Mid Autumn festival this month. The celebrations are associated with the full moon, as well as the traditions of moon worship and moon gazing. On this occasion they have a popular tradition of eating mooncakes. The fest has so many names like The Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival, Mooncake festival, Lantern Festival, Reunion Festival, Children's Festival or August Moon Festival.
Mohamed Azarudeen
The food was good, not great though. Very limited menu. Their fried rice and the fried prawns were the top notch on the menu. Ambience & service was good too.
Aditya Dhillon
Had heard good things about this place. Ate and wasnt impressed. The food was good, not great- maybe slightly under the current rating. Kung Pao Chk, Chk Fried Rice, Veg Fried Rice, fish dumplings and a really well seasoned dry red chilli with whole spice chk. Stop in for a try but not worth repeating.
PeeGee
My go to place for Chinese in the city, their standout dish is the vegetarian noodles that have a light coating of Soy sauce. Apart from this my usual order consists of their Stir Fried mushrooms as a starter which I absolutely recommend. There isn't much for vegetarians on the menu, but if you'd order these two dishes you wouldn't be disappointed.
GJ
Good food and confused service is how my experience at Stix was.
Ordered for Pan fired dumplings and Open Mushroom.
Both were very good in taste and came with perfect accompaniments/ sauces.
Service started on a strange note and ended up becoming more weird.
I was the only 1 in restaurant and it took them more than 20 minutes to get my order.
Didn't complaint because I was staying at the hotel and had nowhere to go at that time.
If you are ordering cocktails, ask them to get it from their bar. They are excellent.

Asian Cuisine is quite popular and preferred not just in India but world over. But the cuisine has a lot more to offer than Chinese, which we all love. . With Chennai opening up to all sorts of cuisines, the Chinese speciality restaurant at Hyatt Regency, Stix is hosting an exclusive and limited Taiwanese Food Festival for the first time in in the city. The Festival was inaugurated with much fanfare and a colourful show on May 20, 2016. It is being conducted in partnership with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai.
Divya Srinivasan (Creatikaa)
It isn't new for Hyatt Regency to fill our palate with delicious food from across the world. And this time, it was Taiwan. Bringing the flavours of Taiwan down to Chennai for an exclusive festival in partnership with Taipei Economic and Culture Centre. Passing on his magic to the food, Chef Sung from Grant Hyatt Taipei has crafted a beautiful menu with authentic Taiwanese ingredients for the festival.

Went for new year eve celebration, wide variety of dishes , had a great night tasting everything. A complete experience. Go if you want to taste different cuisines in a single place.

"As You Like It - Business Lunch" at Hyatt Regency.

Given the Star rating of this Hotel, I really feel the concept of their Business Lunch and Pricing (Excluding the Taxes part) is pretty neat. The choices are:

Vegetarian, Chicken - INR 1111
Vegetarian, Chicken, Meat - INR 1222
Vegetarian, Chicken, Meat, Seeafood - INR 1333

The Business Lunch Menu is quiet elaborate. You can make your selection, and the portions are served according to the number of people in the table. Mr. Arun, the manager, explained, it's because they want to avoid wastage, which according to me is very fair.

The Order: Opted for the INR 1333 Business Lunch

Starters: Sichuan style chicken, chilli; Crispy fried lamb, sichuan pepper, hoisin sauce; Fish pepper salt

Loved all the three starters. Absolutely drool worthy.

Main Course: Barbecue chicken and egg fried rice; Stir-fried noodles (Customised)

The Fried Rice also had Sweet Corn, Peas along with the Chicken and Egg and was made out of sticky rice. The noodles, I was told by my host, this was one of the finest that I'll get in Chennai. After tasting, I for once, agreed with what he had to say.

Sichuan poached tenderloin, chinese cabbage, winter bamboo; Sliced lamb, bok choy, chilli flakes and cumin; Steamed river fish, ginger soya, scallion, sesame oil; Stir fried prawn, bell pepper, xo sauce.

Out of the 4, the steamed river fish won hands down. I loved it to bits. The prawns were not my kind, I somehow am not a fan of XO sauce. So, not my type. The other two faired well.

Desserts: One can choose 2 desserts out of the choice of 4. But, we were served all the 4.

The Mandarin Crème Brulee stood out from the rest. Berry Cheese cake was nice. The fruit platter was presented well. Not a fan of their Banana fritters with Coconut Ice Cream, though.

When I interacted with Mr. Arun. He gave me 2 desserts (on the house) to try.

Mango Pudding: Not very impressive.

Baked Yoghurt: This was amazing. Loved it thoroughly. Very different and classy.

Overall Experience: Service was top-notch both the times. But, they have to do something about their AC. Also, I requested the manager to update their Zomato page with details on their Business Lunch and Menu. He agreed to look into it.

Being a Chinese food lover I went to stix yday expecting it to be delicious as I had been there before and loved the food .. The menu seemed a lil different and in the excitement to try smth new I ordered three dishes . For starters mushroom and bamboo shoot dumpling , for mains asparagus chestnut and corn with garlic sauce and veg schezuan hakka noodles. The dumpling tasted like nth but doughy and borderline inedible . After I got the main course I was stunned: the asparagus dish had no gravy and the hakka noodles were white .. what part of schezuan did he not understand ? When I asked them to take it back n make it spicy they relented. Finally after 20 mins off wait when I got the dishes back I saw nth but chilli flakes sprinkled on top. The waiter also said that Chinese food doesn't have soya sauce . The noodles had red chilli paste added to it which made it hot n firey rather than scrumptious n spicy .. I couldn't finish my meal. My friend who I boosted to abt this place ordered chili chicken and fish in bean sauce . The chilli chicken had fried chilli and pieces of fried chicken resting on it with no sauce or flavouring. The fish had black bean sauce which was so mild and the marinated sauce kept falling of the fish making it very unappetising. With such lacklustre food and below average service it wasn't worth the exorbitant money I paid for it. I wish I could give them negative stars for wasting my time , money and appetite.

I have always liked Hyatt for their food. But this one was one heck of a place. Ambience was subtle and very well decorated. The dim lights and the chef counter right in the centre just added to the ambience.
Coming to the food, we ordered a whole lot of starters. There was a good sichuanese style chicken and a few variations of lamb starters. We also ordered some fried rice which was very much different from the usual. Everything we chose that day was delicious. I love the flavours' melange to give the perfect sensation to your taste buds.
For dessert, we had the mandarin creme brulee and a cheese cake. The creme brulee was to die for but the cheese cake was just about okay.

All in all a satisfying experience.

Stix is a chinese specialty restaurant of Hyatt regency, Teynampet. I tasted their Vegetable and mushroom garlic noodles with steamed fish in sauce. As a combo the dish was terrific. The noodles was finely made, tasted authentic while the mushroom were generously populated. The garlic taste was not overwhelming and hence can be tasted even by those who don't like its flavor. The fish was so very well cooked and was very well marinated and the flavour of the sauce so nicely ingrained into the fish.

Stix is one of those places you'd have to go to if you love authentic Chinese food, not the Indian Chinese kind.

Ever since I had their Sichuan style fried chicken at Ace 365 ages ago, I have wanted to go there but unfortunately it never happened. We finally got to go there on Saturday for dinner and as expected this place blew us away.

Brilliant decor and impeccable service, stix makes you feel right at home. Being a Saturday we thought it would be crowded but thankfully it wasnt.

Coming to the food,

We HAD to order the Sichuan style fried chicken - which was excellent as usual, succulent pieces of fried chicken with lots and lots of fried red chilli. For me this is what heaven on a plate looks like.

We had the Stir fried pork with bell pepper, garlic and black beans - this is hands down one of the best pork dishes i have had, just the right amount of spices, the pork was soft and just delicious, for a while I forgot that I was in a restaurant stuffed my face with it, thankfully my friend reminded me of table etiquettes.

Yang zhou fried rice with green pea and shrimps- it was the first time I was having a fried rice with sticky rice. A pleasant change from the fried rice they serve at Indian-Chinese restaurants which tastes mostly of ajinomoto. This was refreshing and flavored just right.

Priced slightly on the higher side, but I wouldn't mind spending, for the kind of food that this place cooks up.

Ps- forgot to take pics as I was busy walloping the food 😁

Opened up with a complimentary warm green tea, this place is an absolute delight for Chinese food lovers. The meaning of Chinese food in India is restricted in usage of sauces only. Here you would experience distinct flavors of fish oil, herbs and other things used that makes up the dish taste so authentic.

Going by the ambiance, we did not believe it to be a Chinese restaurant but the food what we had made us believe so. The fun part was when a Punjabi Chef turned up to our table and asked how the food was, in a Chinese restaurant! Jokes apart, this is a must visit place.

Its a small exclusive type restaurant in a star hotel, so you can expect the price tag, but the food sure as hell is great.

I always judge a restaurant by its cutlery. Their cutlery seemed authentic (they serve food in bowls) and the ambiance speaks for itself. I can still taste their crispy Lotus stem even after 2 months. Totally worth a visit. If I had to nitpick, it'll be that the menu way too limited (makes choosing easy - glass half full approach) and the staff could have possibly smiled a little more - they were professional but could have been warmer.

But all in all, must visit!

Spread wasn't great. Dessert section was too limited. Taste of the food was not satisfactory. Sugarcane juice was the highlight and tasted awesome.

The portions are good and the food is excellent. Would strongly recommend their fried prawns. Worth a visit. The menu definitely needs to be a bit more extensive.

Stix is an authentic Chinese restaurant with a very limited menu. However, that's the USP of this place. They serve few items but they make sure they do a good job with those. The vegetarian and non vegetarian are equally spread. The sweet corn roasted chicken soup was outstanding. Extremely different from the usual sweet corn chicken soup. We tried the pot sticker veg dumplings which again stood out. The five spices fried rice was an authentic Chinese sticky rice with assorted spices and veggies. Extremely tasty. Must try for Chinese food lovers.

This is my most favourite restaurant. Try their fried rice with bell pepper chicken👍🏼💣 with a Guinness sums it up. And their deserts are great too. It is a ambient place with a open kitchen in the middle. I would say better than china XO- LEELA.!!

STIX @ HYATT - Spacious clean well designed hotel, but smoky restaurant with live kitchen. Very average food. Tried the chicken corn soup, barbecue fried rice, dumplings, and chicken gravy. Soup was salty water, rice was over cooked paste, dumplings was meaty, gravy was too sweet. Over powering extremes in each dish. Not a satisfied meal.

Visited the place basis Zomato reviews. It was a weekday so the place was not crowded.
Order for the day - Spinach leaves with peanut sesame sauce and rice vinegar, mango smoothie, vegetable dumpling with glass noodles, Mushroom vegetables soup and Chicken udon noodles soup.

Both the soups were good. The spinach appetizers was a little sweeter than expected. The dumpling was visually different than usual. It had a crepe over it. The smoothie wasn't good, too sweet and bad consistency.

The restaurant doesn't serve Kimchi salad, I love Kimchi salad. The Ambience is nice and romantic. Service is good but the food didn't do justice.

My verdict -
Ambience : 4.5 / 5
Food : 3 / 5
Service : 4 / 5
Value for money : 3 / 5

Went here for our anniversary. The ambience is lovely and quite romantic. The food however left me a little disappointed. It was nice and nothing was bad. But it lacked a certain wow factor.
Maybe it was just an off day for us or them!

Food & Flavour: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Seating: 3/5
Value for money: 3/5

Let me start by saying I've loved Hyatt's pastries and cakes! So, when I saw the tag, Asian cuisine, I wanted to try this place for a long time. Here I was with my brother on a Friday night! This meal cost a bit over 4 grand for two!
I would start by saying the food was amazing although I decided to go vegan! I loved the freshness of the vegetables and condiments added. I would like it better though, if there were more inclusions in the menu!
For starters, I had the 'smoked bamboo shoots, black fungus vegetable spring roll' which was good but I don't know if I should complain, three pieces! That's all I'm saying!
The wild mushroom, young bamboo open dumpling was neatly dressed and palatable!
For the mains, I tried the 'five spiced fried rice', 'Sichuan Chilli vegetables, cashew nut, sesame oil' and broccoli, lotus root, bean sprout, black bean sauce'
All really good, portions not to complain about. Again, fresh vegetables used and I loved the bamboo shoots! Stir fried at the right amount!
Nothing 'much' to grumble apart from the portions served(maybe because I've got a voracious appetite!)
Alcohol is served; but I got to have a Kingfisher pint as they were out of draught!
Staff were okay, seating adequate but a disappointment really as I've been to Hyatt a couple of times and hated the space used in a couple of sections of the Hotel. I would've loved more options for seating(hence, the low rating)! Seats were comfortable enough and liked the ones against the open kitchen!

Ok so if you are a Chinese food lover, you will know what I mean with the title of this review.
The food is just terrific.. Very very authentic as well!!The spring rolls and noodle are to die for clearly. The taste of the food was there for long time.
We also tasted the dessert and it was blissful.. Special mention to the kitchen for their speed. You do not wait too long for any dish. And the Tea is very authentic. Really kindles your hunger.

Pathetic service . Had to wait for over 40 minutes for appetisers to arrive . Had to place 3 requests for serving our main course . The food was good .. Guess that's a redeemer

I have found Stix to be pretty average and I'll tell you why. What they serve over here is only Cantonese items - that is what they specialize in. So although they have a Chinese chef, they won't be serving you Chopsueys, the Hakka Noodles, the Mixed chowmeins, the Garlic or Ginger or Chilli chickens, basically all the popular stuff which you look for in a Chinese restaurant. One can say that this place is for the connoiseurs but for the lay man looking for the regular Chinese stuff, this place is a huge huge disappointment.

We were going to Focacia when we were drawn in by the lovely aroma that wafted out of STIX. Had a look at the menu and were thrilled that it had as many vegetarian dishes as there were non vegetarian.
The decor was pleasant, service good and the food EXCELLENT.
Being vegetarians we had the
Clear soup - The silken tofu in it was amazing!
The Lotus stem starters were great,.
The Mapo Tofu delicious. Chef Oliver excelled at it. A simple dish but one of the most difficult to cook.
Would have preffered if we had been offered chinese tea rather than having to ask if they sere it.
But altogether a great meal. We will be back for more!

Our favourite Chinese place in the city, bar none. Though we quite liked the old menu - the fried tofu & black fungus salad on it - even the new one has a great choice. There's pretty much nothing you can go wrong with except dessert. They don't use basmati in their fried rice (thank God) and the sides are light, flavourful and fresh. No ajinomoto burps, no after-chinese tummy-woes. Guaranteed.

Had a family get together with a new experience! The rich ambience was a visual bliss-to sit on high chairs, with a pool by ur side n chef cooking for u inside a glass cabinet was new.If u are a authentic Chinese food lover then this is your place. But if ur not please don step in.The soup and starter prawns and veg were good. The dumpling were so filling.and coming to the mains-Rice?really sticky Rice? Its a definite No to our palate!!After all the Indo-Chinese we ate from a kid it's a disaster to eat Boiled rice at such high price. To save us came the dessert the custard was lip smacking and we happened to clean the brown plates.
Good place, good food but highly price.
I am firm believer that tiny restaurants have much better food than the large ones and at a better price.....but After asking around as to which 5 star hotel has the best food in relation to their cost decided to stop by stix... Here is the result

Decor - completely in love with the decor... Ultra modern and sleek.. Lots of blues and greens used...
Service-helpful and friendly
Food
Soup
Coriander and chicken soup ...it was essentially sweet corn chicken soup but I didn't mind cause it tasted pretty good
Starters
Deep fried lotus stem- slightly sweet lotus stem.. Tried after a recommendation from a review on zomato...tasted pretty good if also slightly unusual as it was my first experience with lotus stem
Sea food shu mai - absolutely loved these perfectly cooked sea food stuffed dumplings
Mains
Barbeque chicken fried rice - literally chicken cooked in Barbeque sauce in slightly sticky rice..I quite liked it
Cumin and beef- definitely dish if the day.. This spicy thinly cut pieces if beef
Fish- no idea what it's actually called...well cooked fish in a kind of white sauce ..not quite sure what it was made off but the taste was decent but needed a bit more spice
Dessert
I was definitely disappointed with dessert...they were out of green tea powder so no green tea cheesecake

Poached pear with sticky rice and coconut cream- felt a bit let down when I saw the dish as i was kind of expecting a fully poached pare master chef style..instead got two slices covered in slightly bland sticky rice ...kind of looked like puke
Apple and coconut spring roll - was exactly as the name described ... Taste was decent but did not justify the price tag
Overall- good food excluding dessert ... Worth a visit when in the mood to blow some cash:)

Chinese cuisine has the ability to lift up my mood ! It's a comfort food for me just like Maggie :)

Now coming to Stix, it is my first time here.

The Decor was amazing and so was the view outside from where i was sitting . Had gone there with my team, comprising 7 members, for lunch . We ordered for Executive Business Lunch .

I had a taste of everything that was on the menu actually because i was accompanied by the men and they wanted to try everything on the menu.

My favourites have to be crispy lotus stem , spring rolls with mushroom and grass noodles, steamed fish with ginger and soy sauce and sweet & sour prawns.

Coming to desserts i just loved the Date Pancakes, they were perfect with a scoop of ice cream. Wish they increase the size of that yummy tiny pancake.

A word of caution to people who are fans of Indian version of Chinese cuisine, do not be disappointed ;)

Final Verdict : Great ambience, flawless service and decent food.

Great decor, great ambience and great food. I had lunch here and I found the service impeccable. The sticky rice with seafood sauce was delicious and the Chinese tea with that was a great combination. The food is created in front of you and its good to watch the chefs at work. The pool side view during the day is soothing to the eyes. I had a great time.

One of my fav restaurants in chennai .they serve authentic Chinese .lov their sticky chicken fried rice .the steamed fish in ginger soya sauce is a must try for all the fish lovers .it just melts in the mouth .the service s quick .comin to the dessert,we had green tea cheesecake which I don't think s available Anywer else in chennai .it tasted very different from the usual blueberry and other flavoured cheesecakes .a perfect mild sweet desert to end a perfect meal:)

I tried the executive business lunch and i was very impressed with :

- taste and authenticity of the food; all the dishes had different tastes they didn't all taste of msg or salt

- speed of service; even though we came quite late they made everything we ordered quickly and was served immediately

- service was very good, efficient, polite and welcoming
- i enjoyed the green tea cheesecake, prawns with oyster mushrooms (not exactly sure of this dish as it was a long time ago) , fried rice was not oily, soup and spring rolls were crispy and not oily.

Will definitely be returning with family for an authentic chinese experience- well done guys and keep up the good work!

Only minus- the date pancake was a bit sweet; could be served with ice cream to counteract this and could add more variety to the dessert menu.

Authentic Chinese street food. My favorite place for Chinese food in town. Heads and shoulders above the rest. Try the cumin lamb, and the green tea cheesecake.

Probably the best authentic Chinese Resturant in Chennai! Great ambiance and look to the place. Lotus stem and the special spicy chutney is a must!

Chinese food is one of my favourites and I am really particular with the way the food is prepared and served and Stix is by far the only Chinese restaurant in town which has satisfied my desires. Eating Chinese food from a plate is not culturally correct and Stix takes this notion very seriously. It's one of the very few places in town that have bowls instead of plates for eating food. The ambiance is amazing. The rough cut stone and pebbles floor adds a nice touch to the rather pleasant view of the garden outside. The food is really nice and the service is commendable. From the fresh, steaming hot dumplings to the stir fried veg, Food at Stix doesn't disappoint.

When I first walked into this restaurant when they opened a couple of years ago I was unimpressed with the menu which had a limited number of items. During my first visit I ordered the steamed fish, and was pleasantly surprised to find it perfectly steamed and the flesh creamy, not flaky as steamed fish usually tends to be in other places.

In subsequent visits, I tried a variety of items on the menu and discovered that even though their repertoire is limited, the quality of ingredients and the preparation is superb.

Highly Recommended - Everything on the menu!

I started off with stir fried fish with black bean sauce. The dish was very soft but it tasted as if it only has the soya coating and not the fish. I think we are like only the taste of fish inside and most of us do not like any coating on the fish. This was completely opposite and I did not get the flavour of fish. I asked them to pack it off as I did not like, however the kids at home enjoyed :-(

I actually wanted to taste the chicken dumpling, but did not want to take a risk and proceeded to the main dish. Ordered for a stir fried chicken gravy and asked the waiter for a normal chicken fried rice. And finally, they did an amazing job. Both the fried rice and gravy went very well.

I wish to mention the service level and the attitude of the waiters here. They are polite, answer all our questions, and end of the day you feel satisfied.

The cost is also very reasonable for a start category hotel, when our local bhavans can charge Rs. 200 for a veg fried rice, i would not mind paying Rs. 400 for a chicken fried rice here :-)

If you love Chinese and ready to splurge on food Stix will the best bet. Ambience was very appealing and the staffs were courteous enough. The kitchen in the middle of the restaurant was quite fascinating. This will be the best Chinese you have ever tasted in Chennai. We ordered Minced Chicken soup for appetizer and Chicken dumplings for starters which tasted amazing. For the main course we ordered Stir fry Chicken with baby corn and black fungus in chilli paste which was perfect for the Barbeque chicken fried rice that we had. We also ordered Asahi beer which was quite expensive but a perfect blend. Coming to dessert we ordered Pumpkin custard which tasted so heavenly. :D Overall, a fabulous experience and worth the money IMO. :) But vegetarians won't have many options to choose from the menu. :/

If u have a craving for Chinese and have money to spend I would recommend this place hands downI would be bold as to say it is the best Chinese I've tasted in a five star category hotel .It was pure Chinese and the open kitchen is even more attractive .and the hospitality is even good .

Went here, preferring it over Spice Hatt and Focaccia for some untold reason.

The fried rice with Soya Sauce is to die for. Sichuan Chicken and Stir Fried Veggies are worth the try...Soups and Desserts suck big time.

They have just started the awesome Sunday brunch at STIX.. Its a great value for money at 1388 for unlimited sichuan food

In Summer, I was in Hyatt Chennai for a business trip. After work, me and my colleague decided to try out an authentic Chinese food at Stix.

The place is very cosy and the attending staff was very polite and welcoming.

Firstly, they offered us a welcome drink - which was made from Chinese herb, which really stimulated the appetite. We ordered Veg Spring Rolls and Prawns Dumplings with Soy sauce and they were delicious, as we were expecting it to be. In main course, we tried Fried Rise with stirred fresh green veggies with highly recommended Basa Fish and the combo was out of this world.. it was amazing..! Not many options for desserts, though we tried mango mousse and it was as the dessert should test like "cherry on the top".

Portions were perfect for two and final bill was worth the food quality and quantity served.

My Ratings -
Ambience: 4/5
Quality: 4.5/5
Quantity: 4.5/5
Hospitality: 5/5
Price: 4/5
Revisit Appeal: 4.5/5

When Hyatt opened and people were raving about Authentic Asian food called Stix, my hopes raised a bit too much. We were dazzled by the entry and the hotel itself, it was quite a stunner I must admit. Entering Stix we found the seating a bit cramped though for an otherwise huge space, but well we couldn't complain yet as the service was courteous and we liked the attention.

The menu cards were laid out and first things first - They had a handpicked selection and what dampened my mood was the vegetarian options were even slimmer! We anyways decided to go for it and ordered - spring rolls (glass noodles),vegetable treasure dumpling for starters. The portion size was minuscule and in terms of taste the spring rolls weren't that great, I liked the dumplings better.
Main Course we tried the Fried Rice, Lettuce and Soy Sauce with stir fried veggies in Garlic Sauce. The Fried Rice with Soy Sauce was either too authentic for our tastebuds or was a disaster! The Stir fried Veggies weren't over the top as well.
After that, we gave up but had the tinniest hope with dessert and ordered mango pudding. I must tell you, it felt like mazza being frozen and given to us at ten fold the price.

Overall, It was a disappointment to me. I hope they do better justice to a non veg palette.

Final Verdict
Food 2/5
Ambience 3/5
Service 3/5
Cost for Two : Rs. 2000

Located in the Hyatt on Mount Road (Opposite Anna Salai), the metro construction has not done this restaurant, or any of the really good joints in the 5-Star hotels lining the road any favours. If you are taking an out-of-towner, or worse, someone from abroad here for a meal, you are going to be apologizing all the while for the absolute anarchy on the road as you fight your way to the hotel.
That feeling starts to disappear from the moment you are greeted at the entrance by extremely smart staff, and by the time you figure your way to the lobby, you are greeted by a wide choice of restaurants catering to different cuisines.
Stix is where you need to head for, if you are in the mood for some Oriental Fare, and you had better made up your mind in advance, and booked your table, since the place is normally always booked out, if you are planning on a walk-in.
First impression, as you are seated, is that the place is a bit cramped. You get the feeling that someone wanted to fit in that one table more, and while that might be OK if you are a low end fast-food joint, here, you feel a bit short-charged.
The food but, is absolutely worth all the hassle. Well prepared, exquisitely flavoured, and served by staff that charm you with their smile and panache. The menu is not extensive, but it covers just about any meat - fish, fowl and good ol' red meat that you might want to sample, and each of them seems to be paired with the perfect complement of herbs and sauces.
Unfortunately, the dessert menu is not so impressive. It is almost as if the restaurant expects you to be so full at the end of the main course that you would be wanting something very light, if at all. So, if you have a yearning still, put on your sweetest smile, and ask them to bring you some Tiramisu from the Foccacia!!
Oriental indulgence at the very best.

I must be one of the few people who have an issue with the food here. Sure it's authentic and all that, however... Too much salt! And besides, nothing outstanding. Noodles are tasteless (aside from the salt overdose.) Dumplings are good. I'd eat just those if I were forced to go back here.

Both times I left feeling dehydrated and a bit disappointed. Luckily the second time around, they brought round a tiramisu from Focaccia and that made things a lot better. Shall not return if I can help it.

One of the neweat and finest place to eat chinese in chennai. You must go for lunch as you can order as many dishes as you wish and they serve it on your table. The salad with fungus and onion with mustard is a must try. very good ambience and authentic chinese.
It cost u approx 2500.00 for two but worth spending an afternoon here .Staff is good and ingredients are very fresh.I love this place.
