Great food, prompt service, VFM.
We ordered sweet corn soup, honey chilli cauliflower and cheese spinach roll. All of these were yummy. The cauliflower in particular, was out of the world.
Phulkas were very soft and light.
The coconut mousse was awesome. It is a must try dessert if you visit this place. Totally enjoyed the food and ambience. Will surely visit more often and also recommend it to friends and family.

Situated in the heart of Gandhi Nagar, a nice and calm yellow makeover welcomes you. The place had minimalistic interiors and well done walls. The menu was exhaustive and the staffs were cordial to answer my queries on their recommendations from the menu.
My pick from the starters were Paneer Tikka, Aloo Lollipop and the must mention Podi Paniyaram. The traditional Paneer Tikka was made just-right and the Aloo Lollipop made no mistake, the Podi Paniyaram was a topper.
Im surely going back for some homestyle food and some refreshing welcome drinks. A one- stop restro for all your veggie food cravings. The range of foods you can try here is endless! All luck.

Pappad Paneer is a dish which is formulated and designers by The Great Indian Canteen. It's a panner dish with multiple twists. So it's basically tender paneer slices sandwiched with pickle and cover with pappad and added with extra spices and masala to give the extra touch to the dish. This is one of it's kind dish and I really loved it's taste. This is a must try when you are at the great Indian Canteen. ❤️

A good to go veg place for the veg lovers, they have huge item in their menu which you can enjoy with your family and friends.
I have almost tried most of their signature dishes in their menu from panner tikka to mushroom masala to urundai gravy to palak panner, they do have some ups and down in their food.
Coming to the starters, I had panner platter which is the combination of hariyali panner,zaherani panner, Hyderabadi and panner tikka, panner platter was presented perfectly loved the way they cooked it. Panner was soft n fluffy I personally loved thier marination it was excellent.
Veg bullet been a signature dish it lacks in the taste, it had more flour then the veggies.
Papad panner: it's quite a unique dish, they have rolled the panner with papad crumbs and panner was stuffed with pickles, I felt they have added more pickle to it, which made it little tough to eat.
Main course we had some amazing things like pudinga roti, butter roti and garlic nan, with mushroom gravy and palak panner . Panner tikka was excellent they have mashed panner with the palak which gave some unique taste.
Rice with urundai gravy, gravy was excellent it's was same like how my mom.makes it, you can feel like Ur been home. It's typical home food.
Desserts : we had a gulkand vanilla icecream and rasamalai, gulkand vanilla was such a bliss it's was so luscious. Rasamalai had a perfect texture but I felt they should had little more saccharine even the milk was little diluted
Overall I can rate them 3.5/5.
We went for dinner to this place! Excellent ambience, great food to eat with quick service. The waiters were really helpful and did a great service.

Great Indian Canteen 🤩 is a good to go vegetarian multi cuisine restaurant which is worth traveling to Gandhinagar, Adayar from any part of the city. The ambience is pleasing with good air conditioning and quiet decent amount of space to accommodate multiple group of people without any chaos😌😌
Now, it's time to settle in our table and take a look at the menu. They got a wide range of menu with South Indian, North Indian and Chinese varieties. The servers are skilled enough to explain us about all the dishes from their menu and we went with their choice of selection for most of the dishes. From Starters to dessert all the categories are having their signature dishes which are really the best in such categories. Dishes we ordered are

Veg Bullet, 🤪 the name is quiet funny and this starter tasted yum with the mint chutney. Cheese and Spinach roll is not the best I would say where as the Paneer Pappad😋😋 is a must try starter of GIC. It has a pickle touch in it which tempts us to have more and more and more. Being a paneer addict I go crazy🤪 in choosing the paneer starter so most of the time I'll prefer paneer platter and so did I. For most of the people Paneer is the deciding factor of the quality of vegetarian restaurant😝 and yes, GIC is doing a good job in paneer dishes. All the varieties in the paneer platter are quiet to decent in taste, texture and consistency.
Podi Idly and Podi Panniyaram are my favorite of GIC. Both these dishes are worth ordering twice but yet if theri is battle of Podi Idly vs Podi Panniyaram, my 😁 support goes to Podi panniyaram.
Here we go for the main course, getting the suggestions from the management we ordered few Indian breads such as Pudhina stuffed Paratha, Garlic Naan and butter Naan as well. Also, we ordered a bowl of Steamed Basmati rice. To accompany both the rice and Breads we went for 3 gravies pout of which the Mushroom masala stands out.
Though we are full, one cannot finish the dinner without 😁😁 dessert. Gulkand ice cream is their signature dessert and also the coconut mousse is their must try dessert (as recommended by the management) but the coconut mousse taste varied from cup to cup in coconut flavor yet it's worth a try. Then comes my all time favorite Gulab Jamun🤩 which was served hot with 4 pieces in a bowl - Awesome it is. Finally we had Rasamalai which served our tastebuds and satisfied our craving for rasamalai.

The Great Indian Canteen is a full fledged vegetarian multi cuisine restaurant which has sprung up in a by lane at Gandhi Nagar in Adyar. It's a pretty large outlet with the space being divided rather well. The ambiance is perky and gives a good vibrant feel.
The spread largely consists of North Indian, South Indian and Chinese. The menu runs into a number of pages and there are options galore. We mostly had majority of starters most of which were pretty good and a few could be spruced up a wee bit. First up the panneer pakodas were very well made deep fried and containing lovely chunks of cottage cheese inset. The chilli cheese aloo tikki was also quite good but the spice content could be looked at a little. The veg bullet was more like a chinese appetiser and their signature fare. The panneer tikka I felt could have been a tad better. It didn't give that top notch taste and should have been softer and creamier. The cheese and spinach roll, the bread crumbs were too thick and big not really ideally placed to hold the stuffing. No complaints on the podi idli which was done up deliciously with the right ingredients and spices. Their papad panneer was also a winner with breaded rolls comprising pieces of panneer slathered over with lemon pickle which tasted different and good.
We were mostly full with just the starters but got down to have a little of the main course as well. All the Indian bread varieties served were well dished out and for the gravies, the palak panneer as well as the mushroom one went along very well. We also had a nice spicy south indian curry.
In the drinks and dessert section, we had a lilting rose sharbath, the essence which is actually imported from Rajasthan. I thoroughly enjoyed gulping it up. To round off, we were served a wonderful icy gulkhand ice cream which was full of flavour and also a coconut mousse which was fairly good.
The rates are on par with usual fine dining pricing and the service was amiable and always willing to help us with respect to our orders and providing suggestions of what all to try. On the whole, it was a lovely experience. Great Indian Canteen is a comfortable place in a cozy location serving some variety vegetarian fare which is certainly worth trying.
A pleasant place with subtle, antique ambience and delicious food! Please do try their Veg biriyani! It's a feast to the taste buds 💖 One of the few places that'll make you come back for a second visit :)
I would recommend this place for people who are on a budget and want good food, This place is ideal for get-togethers as it is a multi cuisine restaurant with large number of dishes to choose from.
The food is fresh and well cooked.
Would highly recommend Dal makhani and Kulchas as they are extremely delicious.
Overall I had a great time at this place and look foward to visit again soon.
