One of the best Asian restaurant in chennai. Love their option of creating our own noodles bowl. Chap chay will be my forever go to place from here onwards for their service & not to forget their unlimited jasmine tea.

One of the striking aspects of the interior decor at Chap Chay are two large frames with one Chinese language character each on two opposing walls And the muted lights that cast a soft, warm glow inside. The atmosphere is sedate and the kind that encourages soft conversation, not boisterous laughter. I don't know if decor can influence behaviour but it is certainly worth considering. We went there a couple of months apart, ordering ala carte the first time and then the buffet. The buffet is fine if you like choosing the ingredients, the sauce and the noodles for the chefs to add their own touch. And if soup is high on your priorities. Otherwise it is overpriced because it does not include a dessert either The a la carte option was way better. The momos were translucent morsels, with softness, crunchiness and flavour spreading satisfyingly with each mouthful. The noodles and the vegetables were perfectly cooked and flavoured. When you don't need to add any sauces or spices, you know the chef has balanced everything right. I have no idea if this is authentic Chinese. But stir-fry, which is what Chap Chay apparently means is what the restaurant is about. Choose wisely and you'll eat well

Visited chap chay for an office lunch. Food was awesome. Staff were pretty friendly and accommodating to all our requests. Enjoyed the food thoroughly. The seats were a bit uncomfortable to sit. The ambiance and overall restaurant atmosphere was calm and relaxing. Would visit again.

Chap Chay is a lovely Pan Asian restaurant located in The Raintree Hotel in St. Mary's Road, Chennai. I had occasion to go there several times and loved the food. On my last visit we had the Chicken Siu Mai with Carrot Burnoise, Bulgogi Beef with Napa Cabbage Kimchi & Gochujang Chilli and Pan Fried Sichuan Lamb & Pine Nuts Jiao Jiao Dim Sum. All the dishes tasted great and the ambience and sevice are super too.

Food was verrrry spicy and the service was very poor. They simply forgot to place my son's order and it took a total of 55 min to get his food. They finally gave us a free dessert but it was too little too late

The ambience was pretty cool and we had a good time. I specifically enjoyed their "Desi" cuisine not to mention the chicken varieties.

I had the best food here , it's such a good place for comforting Chinese food . I went here for lunch and we tried the buffet , man was it so delicious Starters they gave us three different types of dim sums in both non-veg and veg. It was so satisfying , i couldn't stop eating them and since I'm a big fan of dim sums i just loved them to the core , so soft and moist with sufficient filling in them!!! Taste was perfect!! Had some sweet corn chicken soup and i even ordered this mocktail called Aquarius it was so good. The mocktail contained of lime, mint etc it was perfect for this summer!! Main course we had unlimited live counter Where we could select from different veggies, non veg and noodles with sauces by placing all of this in a bowl , they'll mix it up for u and give it to you. 1st round- I had flat noodles , lamb , squid, some zucchini, spring onions, mushrooms and brocolli all mixed in a teriyaki sauce ❤️it was both spicy and sweet , was a very balanced sauce !!! 2nd round- I selected the white noodles , brocolli and mahi-mahi fish all mixed together in Korean gochujang chilli sauce. It was sweet but yet it had a tint of spice , i loved it !!! And for the desserts it was fried ice cream ❤️with some fruits 😋 Overall ambience was 5/5 Price:5/5(worth it) Food:5/5 Staff :5/5 Overall had the best time with my family. Do check it out!!!

Some customers were allowed to choose from the menu but I was "offered" only the Sunday full menu what was too much. In addition, the waiter mixed up what I ordered veg and non veg. After complaining, I got a reduction but this kind of service should not happen in such a restaurant...

Chap Chay has been my family’s favorite Asian Restaurant for quite some time and the new menu has put Chap Chay on my favorites list as well. A few foodies and I were invited to taste a few items from the menu and this happens quite rarely that we had no complaints by the end of the meal and even more rarely that our Non Vegetarian counter parts liked the Vegetarian dishes more. From the Soups to Starters to the Mains and Dessert, our taste buds were in for a treat. The ambiance of Chap Chay is quite elegant with soothing oriental music playing in the background, some Chinese lettering on the wall and for some reason I feel the Chinese Language has the most beautiful fonts compared to any other foreign languages, one of the walls had the Dimsums baskets as decor and the ceiling was covered with brightly lit lights in lanterns which I felt was quite quirky. For conversation starters, we were given some Jasmine tea, which is a seed that blooms open into a flower when poured over with some hot water and also has some tiny jasmine flowers inside. I love Jasmine tea and ended up having more than four glasses of it. It served as a palette cleanser as well in between the courses giving me a fresh taste perspective of the varied dishes. A special mention for the wide range of Dimsums available at Chap Chay, we were given with three varieties of Veg Dimsums, the Wotif which is Edamame Cheese Dumpling was my personal favorite, the cheese just melts in your mouth and this is the first time I tasted Edamame which has a similar texture like green peas and it gave a salty balance to the creamy cheese. The Szechuan Vegetables Dimsums had quite a kick in terms of the spiciness of the Szechuan sauce and had a nice after taste. The Crystal Dimsum has Shiitake mushrooms, Enoki and bean sprout, though I don’t like Mushrooms, I gave this Dimsum a try and the flavor of the Shiitake mushroom was delectable. These mushrooms also have medicinal properties so it’s good to have them. For soup, we had the Cantonese Vegetables Wanton Soup. The clear soup was spiced well, especially with the integration of burnt garlic and the wanton was cooked to perfection which enhanced the taste of the soup. By cooked to perfection I mean, the wanton was neither hard nor rubbery because the heat of the soup sometimes tends to overcook the wanton shell. For appetizers, we had the Crispy Thai Lotus Roots mixed with sweet chilli and scallion. Sweet Chilli goes quite well with the scallions which has a mild onion taste and the lotus roots which has similar texture as tapioca. The next dish we had was the Chew Shi which is a cheese ball with pungent flavors of pepper, garlic, ginger and scallion. For mains, we had the Vegetarian Thai Green Curry also known as Gaeng Kiew Wan Je where Je stands for vegetables. The mild coconuty flavors of this famous curry were on point and went well with Jasmine Rice. We also had the Koi Toy Phad Kee Mao, which is sticky flat noodles, glassy in texture and tossed in spicy basil flavors. For desserts, we had two amazing desserts that brought out the Chinese and Thai flavors in terms of the ingredients used to make them. Choco lava cake with Matcha Green Tea sorbet was an absolute delight. The green tea sorbet was just perfff! And the Choco lava cake was light and blended well with green tea. Water Chestnuts is one of my favorite elements of the Thai cuisine and I absolutely loved the Jellied Water Chestnuts in Coconut milk and crushed ice.
