Review Hotel Junior Kuppana - Chennai (Madras)

SATHYA MOORTHY
Located in main place ... Good place for elders and kids not for senior citizens.. to access the lift or escalator we need to walk for a bit lift.. only few open seatings. The ambience is very good..

Good place for entertainment and to hang out with friends/ family Closest to Vadapalani Metro station & Bus stop. You can do lots of shopping 🛍, eat varieties of food. Spacious, well maintained. Huge mall and nice ambience. Spar supermarket is in the basement, has good deals. Food court is very crowded, even on weekdays. PVR is really clean and well maintained.

Good place with good ambiance. One of the old mall in Chennai. Very well maintained. We had a long discussion in the food court and the employees are customer friendly. Restroom is the only problem

A lot of people, who visit the mall, park their bikes in the metro parking area. However, right now, the metro parking fee is quite expensive- it's the same as the mall parking fee. From my experience, I would suggest using the mall parking, it's a better option. I recently went to Spar Super Market, which is currently being renovated to include a large clothing section featuring the Easy Buy Brand. It's one of the busiest spots in Vijaya Mall. Inside the mall, you can find various branded showrooms like Max, Lifestyle, and Bata, among others. The Food Court is one of the best spots in the mall. It has a great atmosphere and a spacious dining area. Additionally, there's a play area for Kids „Funcity".

Biggest mall in Chennai and awesome shipping mall. Movies also available. Very awesome and many varieties of goods and cloths, food available.

The environment is very good. Some items have good discounts which are good for shopping. During billing, it is seen that some counters are empty, the crowd is very high, the authorities should keep an eye on it

One of the good malls in Chennai. It’s easily reachable by going in Metro and get down at Vadapalani station. The movie Theaters, SJI palazzo is one of the best we can say. Food court has limited options. Can find most of the good affordable brands in this mall.

This hotel is ———- they don’t deliver what you order and the zomato is shitty and slow to deliver those wrong items too.. so pathetic and I returned the food in the restaurant which the manager was like we are sorry..
the sorry doesn’t help when you order with so much of hunger and you get a wrong item and with a taste of spoiled and tasteless food
I wish it was easy to file a case and shut both zomato and the restaurant for maintaining a such low standards
This will be my last order with zomato

I love junior kuppanna but this branch is not up to the level..
Ambience - 2*, lot to be improved
Cost - 3 *,
Taste - 3 *, not like other junior kuppanna's
The service was really nice

Seriously i don't know whether this shop is inside of forum mall or not. The interior of this junior kuppana is so irritating and the seats also not comfortable to sit and eat here. We ordered 1 veg biryani and Mushroom Manchurian here and we got our orders after 20 Min. The taste of rice and Manchurian is good and tasty too, They serving our food with banana leaf.

Food - food is good and tasty
Ambience - Its totally like road side shop
Quantity of food - Nearly we spending 180rs for Manchurian and 130 rs for veg biryani but the quantity is very less. It's just a kiddy meal.

Experience - Service is Average and food was good but quantity is less.

Worst food and service. I think they don’t have a kitchen at this place and looks like they just heat the food and serve. The Biryani was dry and the chicken sukka was bland.

Won’t recommend this place.
Sarath Garimella
Ambience here is like avg.. they’ve been not maintaining properly.. but the food is good as usual.. I liked mutton biryani better than chicken biryani.. and chicken pallipalyam is spicy good.

Taste is Ok and

quantity is very less for this price.

If you are hungry don't go to this place.

Should improve the quantity of the food.

Another chain restaurant in Chennai.

I don't have anything to point out as bad or good.
I had my first kolurundai from this restaurant.

Wish to improvise the menu with different dishes.

Very worst experience.Manager was very rude.He spoiled our mood.we ordered for special meals, after 30 mins we got the order.he asked us to pay 700 only for rasam rice and moreover he was insulting us that we are escaping from paying bill.worst manager ever I will never refer anyone to junior kupanna
Latha Karanam
I had a very very very worst experience in this hotel in Forum Mall Chennai today. Manager is so so rude. He is a worst fellow. They are very very poor at serving. We ordered 3 veg spl meals. But they didn't serve us Sambar, Poriyal and Sweet. We just had Rasam sadham and Curd and paid bill for 777rs which is totally unfair. That Insane manager speaking so rude and non sense. I request don't spoil Ur peace by gng there.

An extremely worst experience today I had in the restaurant. I went in at 3.40 pm .. most of the items in the menu was not available. That is acceptable. But to take the order for the only customer available at that time they took nearly 15 min.. the food arrived quick only.. taste was not that good. We ordered a chicken biriyani, veg biriyani and 4 parottas. While eating we found that they had kept empty glasses and not even took the courtesy to pour in water. While almost finishing the waiter hurried us to pay the bill before even finishing the meal.. He hurried us so much that we felt humiliated as if we r eating without money. So bad behaviour. would never recommend this restaurant ever again.
Joshua Jebadurai
Please shut it down already. We got the table very next to the table where the cooks were cutting onions, while our eyes were burning, we ordered a chicken dosa and chicken 65, the chicken in the dosa was very spicy and the masala wasn't cooked; the chicken 65 is like a baji and smell was horrible. The price is too expensive for this crappy experience.

Even if u die out of hunger.. don't go there.. stupid place . Manager thinks he is the owner.. too much attitude.. no proper food.. Agni steels is the owner . Pls look into this.. . ull know.. u will lose your cool.. like me
Food - 2
Service - 2
Ambiance - 2.5
The place could improve on making sure about the availability of the food and tending to the customer's requirements in a more social manner.
Food Mom
Wasn't satisfied with the service and the unavailability in the main course food. Can do better with the ambience. Will visit again soon with an expectation that things turn out better.

This place wasn’t a good experience for us. Came with my aunt and siblings and left to The Salt restaurant, located in the same mall. HJK didn’t have their biryani, which I’m guessing is the fundamental thing. The service host, wasn’t able to communicate with us, as she was new and feared my aunt, which I do too. But she wasn’t fluent with the local language, so it took us a few minutes to figure out, how to communicate with each other. Probably the next time, I’d visit this place alone and see how it works out.

Been here for lunch with friends. We ordered biryani and few starters. Taste was horrible. Seems like chicken used for cooking is old. Waiters have no idea what they are doing. If you ask them something, they will bring some other thing. Worst experience.
Mr Foodie
Fantastic authentic south Indian food like always! Loved the chicken 65, kuttu parantha and the prawn curry. They have come a long way in terms of their magnitude of operations. This particular outlet had many floors with each having its own kitchen.

Was amazed to see how packed it was on all floors. Wish we open outlets like these in the north as well. Look forward to many more of your delicious dishes in the times to come. Great going guys!!

the most irritating experience. when we sat in the restaurant they explained that some key items like biryani etc are already over. anyways when the waiter came for order, I asked for two items, which I was told before sitting were there. He said none of them are there. then I ordered a 3rd thing in chicken. he said it is only available in mutton. exasperated I okayed to bring mutton curry dosai. after 20 minutes I was told that even that is not there. by this time I was flabbergasted. meanwhile my wife's order of egg fried rice and gobhi Manchurian had come. portion sizes were disappointing. I ordered chicken 65 then though I had gone there for gravy items. again portion size was not worth the money they charging. kottu mutton porotta never made to our table.... and I missed 10 minutes of my film which I had booked after dinner. the staff was so smug that they didn't offer any apology, forget compensation.
Vinodh David
Serving spoiled food. Never go there. Ordered a lot of food. But they served a spoiled mutton soup. My family walked away. Tried to explain them but they answered that everyone had it. I explained them but not sure if they took the feedback. Will never visit any of their branch ever again.

I have ate around the world. And I would nominate this junior Juliana, forum mall for the worst service in the world. No proper beverages served, and shit service.
Shishir Mishra
Fish fry was disappointing. Still biriyani is good, The best Kottu parotha I have ever had was here. Rich taste of herbs and spices.
Okay, my review is done here I am just writing to make the word count.

Very bad experience. We need to wait long time to get the seats since this is a small rest. It was around 2.30pm when we reached on a Sunday afternoon. whatever we ordered were not available and finally we fixed with 2 veg fried rice, 1 chicken noodles and 1 chicken biriyani and 1 paneer butter masala. The Chinese dishes were really bad and it was came with full of crushed pepper and chicken was not at all good. And the quantity is really really less and they are charging more for the food. I heard good opinion from my friends about this but our experience was really worst.

since footfalls are happening they have not cared about ambience maintenance .walls are cluttered.table not clean.food taste is average .customers deserve more

This would b the worst restaurant i have visited, service is worse than food. We went to forum mall, and friend of mine would like to have briyani so ended entering this restaurant, interior was too bad. I dint felt good about the ambience and interior.since its a sunday there was no place for us. All seats were filled we waited for a time and got seat. My friend ordered mutton briyani. The waiter took the order and came back after 15mins stating "Mutton briyani got over". My friend got so tensed we were so hungry, nd it was nearly around 4pm. So he asked the waiter whether they have any mutton nalli gravy, or mutton gravies. The waiter said he need to check and came back with same answer after few more mins, at last we asked him what else u have, he replied only chicken briyani.since we are not interested in chicken , we ordered egg kothu parota and ate it. Taste of the food is not to the level of expectation. Service was too bad too ! So guys.. What i am suggesting is, try not to use food court in Malls at first case. Secondly be specific and check the reviews of the restaurant and then enter.

I need to give 0 stars. Last week Friday I went afternoon and there was a lady attender she was very rude. Throwing the bill book in the table, hitting the table for entering credit card pin. I m paying and eating and u r not giving free food. That lady has no commonsense, basic manace. I don't know her name. She is lean and tall . Always stand near reception. Bloody moron. Why she came for this kind of work. Cheap attitude. I was not in good mood on that day. Otherwise I would have thrashed her.

Junior kuppana is known for its mouth watering South Indian non veg cuisine more than the vegetarian; being visited most of the other places of the same..this place particularly disappoints me. There is no such thing called customer service.. We had been there for lunch by around 1 and the place was decently crowded as it was a week day, the sad part is for more than 10 mins none of them came forward despite being called to take the orders.. This isn't fair as the restaurant as such holds a huge reputation so people would obviously expect more service from them; fairly disappointed! Not cool guys 👎🏻
Orders- chicken biriyani (tasted good one of my favourite here; highly recommended)
Chicken 65( this is boneless and would go well with any dish)
Ghee parotta (a big fan of this especially in this restaurant; outer crispy layer and inner soft layer.. must have don't miss it)
The staffs when asked for the bill also delayed it and after a point we walked upto the counter and only then they were printing the bill. There is no etiquette that is followed here and decided wouldn't visit here again.
Value for money- for the two of us the bill was approximately 1700/-

Sunday afternoon and a family gathering .

Went inside directly asked them to merge some table and chairs without any hesitation it happened.

@Service was amazing .

Each of our family joined one by one.

Then we started to order. Bit late. But the food came instantaneously.

It made us happier. As we all had a movie to go after 30 min.

Food was great as always .

Ambience was decent.

Give a try..

Best biriyani. Best curd .

Best brain fry .

Do try .

Junior kuppanna is a famous name in South Indian cuisine at Chennai. This is my first visit to any of it's branches.

AMBIENCE & LOCATION : 3/5
--------------------------------------------------
This branch is located at the vijaya forum mall, adjacent to the food court at the third floor.
The place looked congested with so many tables and all filled.
I was here on a weekday late afternoon, still this place was crowded.

SERVICE : 3/5
------------------------
Service was neither bad nor good.

FOOD :
------------
Coming to the food, all the food we ordered came at small quantities. I'll just rate the food according to their taste. Quantity wise all were poor.

CHICKEN BONELESS 65 : 1/5
Even a roadside chicken pakoda would've tasted better. It was definitely not a chicken 65.

VANJIRAM FISH TAWA FRY : 4/5
This was an amazing fish fry. Cooked to perfection.

MUTTON CHUKKA : 3/5
The mutton chukka was very good. But the problem was that there were too many liver pieces in that.

MUTTON BIRYANI : 5/5
The Junior kuppanna's Mutton biryani was one of a kind. Definitely one among the delicious ones I've ever had.
*There'll be too much ghee* People who avoid ghee should probably skip this.

KOTHU PAROTTA (EGG & VEG) : 1/5
Yet another disappointing dish. The kothu parotta was overburnt. It was served with fresh raitha.

PAROTTA : 5/5
Such soft fluffy parottas. Worth trying.

V.F.M. : 3/5
--------------------
The total bill was around Rs.1.5k. Definitely overpriced for their taste and quantity. I'd probably visit here again only for the biryani.
Thinking about the portion size of food I am going to receive at Junior Kuppana, I never want to visit the restaurant until and unless I am left with no other food option. And one such day came along after our movie time at Palazzo during a weekend; as the food court was crowded and other stand-alone restaurants inside the mall (including Junior Kuppana) was packed with diners I had to settle down with one restaurant and wait for my turn to dine. With just 15 minutes wait time (promised by the staff), we decided to dine here. But we waited for almost 45 minutes, bad judgment from our end to trust them. After all the waiting we got the seats and we decided to go with a light meal; the order was Veg Fried Rice, Fish (meen) Pallipalayam and Mutton Biryani (½ plate). I wasn’t keen on eating biryani and settled with fried rice; the rice was good if you are fine with roughly cooked vegetables, not well seasoned but palatable plate of food than it would do justice else this would be your worst nightmare. Moving on to their mutton biryani, the flavor and consistency of the rice and meat well. Finally, Fish Pallipalayam was one dish I wanted to try; the oil-free (as promised by them), moist and juicy fish was delicious but I am not entirely sure that they are oil-free. Yes, the light oil glaze on the gravy didn’t convince me that it was oil-free. Except for the fried rice, the two other dishes tasted good but the price and quantity never go hand-in-hand. I avoid this place for two reasons i.e., price and quantity. Also, the humongous price they quote and the not-so-generous portion can be forgiven if the food is exceptional but I personally feel that the food isn’t delightful enough. We paid Rs.589 INR in total. Price = Costly. Quantity = Tiny. Taste, Quality = Good. Service = Not bad. Ambience = Not Clean.

Been Visiting Junior Kuppanna for last 3 years atleast! One of the worst branches! Poor service and no one comes to take order at the 1st place... Half of the menu items are unavailable most of the times and we are forced to eat what's available! Don't really see the usual customer service that Junior Kuppanna provides!
Vimal Prakash
Worst service...they don't even care to take order...I had to wait for morethan 15 mins to place my order... adding to that the waiter says that they don't have biriyani after waiting for so long... they don't bother to notice ppl coming in and going out. They need to improve their service first. Please avoid going to this place if you want to be treated properly.
Okay firstly, ratings on Zomato can be deceptive and certain gems can be way too underrated, and Junior Kuppana is sadly one of those places, which somehow has been in the hiding in terms of ratings and reviews.

I had this huge craving for hard core meat dishes and decided to have my food packed from this place. The mutton biryani is sensational and is very high on spice and the overiding aroma is of clove, cinnamon and cardamom. The mutton is tender and succulent, and on the whole this biryani leaves nothing else to be desired. The pallipalayam chicken, (which as they claim is made without any oil) is sinfully addictive and has the right blend of heat, with garlic and chilli kick, the chicken is itself perfectly cooked to juicy perfection and the addition of cocunut to the dish adds and extra dimension of flavour. It is surprising to see a dish that is so high on flavour being made without any oil, which also ensures that no unnecessary fat gets in the way of the natural flavour of the chicken.

However the vanjaram fry and quail or kadai roast are the real deal clinchers. These two dishes are too good to be true. The vanjaram fry is coated in a spicy masala, which to me consists of chillies, garlic and turmeric and fried to perfection. The crispy skin on the fish takes it to a whole new level, with the fish holding shape really well during the frying process and gives it a very good texture. Inspite of the crispy exterior, the inner flesh is creamy and moist. An absolute fishy delight!

The quail roast once again speaks volumes. The scent of curry leaves and dried red chillies is a sight to behold, and the quail is cooked with lots of caramelised onions, which adds a unique touch to the dish. The quail is handled in a perfect manner, and the bones too can be eaten without much fuss. The quail is a must try.
The vegetarian fare though is'nt all too good. The kotthu parotta though stands out in an otherwise dull fare. What is a carnivores delight turns out to be a herbivores nightmare.

Anyone who wants to taste jr kuppanna just go a little more further to virugambakkam and try that branch.this branch is not worth of your money or time. The price is little higher than virugambakkam. And the dishes tastes like it's been made in a hurry. The only thing that didn't change was the parotta and kuruma

This outlet in Forum Vijaya is nothing different from other Kuppannas.
It's kinda okay place and nothing special to talk about ambience.!
It's crowded most of the times making it intolerable sometimes.
Coming to food we had dosa, parota, egg kutthu parota for dinner and no complaints about food.
I wouldn't say it's great but it's a fine dine. Kuthu parota is something I will recommend.
Service is poor.
Overall I would recommend to try other restaurants nearby which serve great food.!
And if you don't get table anywhere you can come here.!

One of my foodie friends suggested me this. Their quantity is less compared to their price. Tried mutton nalli fry and mutton biryani.. awesome.. egg half fry was good. Paisam was avg. Service were prompt.

If you want to have supper here, reach the hotel by afternoon. Because that's how long it will take them to attend to your table to get your order and that's for a weekday.
Regarding food, you order butter roti and you will get something like the crust off puff.
Price: Exorbitant. Not worth it

The hotel seems to be good when u enter. Very costly menus. They have Chinese ppl serving Indian food. I ordered non veg meals , mutton biriyane, fish fries. Everytime the boiled egg will be cold when I eat it smells like yesterday egg. All the gravies comes sigh the meals were tasteless. And the steamed rice was very hard to touch itself. The mutton biriyane was OK. But I experienced mutton kola was bad it got rotten taste bad. Nothing taste well to eat. But it costly to enter inside. Better to eat in food court then here. My bill was 995 rs INR. SHOCKED !! plz don't go and waste ur health and money. Thanks

The service at this place was quite disappointing. My friend and I had to wait to be seated, wait to be given the menu, wait pretty long for the food, and wait even longer for the bill!

The food was pretty decent though. I had a chicken kothu paratha and it was quite tasty. They were serving meals even at 3:30 so I guess that's pretty neat too.

Consistently providing authentic traditional south Indian food that you would only otherwise be able to find in Madurai or Coimbatore.
Top Picks :Mutton chukka, Kudal Fry and the famous Parottas

We ordered a mutton biriyani and parota with kongu mutton gravy. The parota was good as well as the mutton gravy but the mutton biriyani is a big big disappointment. The mutton pieces were so tiny. The quality of the meat is not so good.

Very bad service... useless restaurant... Food court is better than visiting this restaurant.. Staffs are non co operative and the quality is not so great.. Not so good experience for me...

Worst service I ever seen throughout my life so far... No customer service at all... I been here with family of 12 including 4 children, we were asked to wait for 20 mins but made us to wait for 1 hr 15 mins (from 2.30 pm to 3.45 pm)... Later they told us there is no food available everything got over.

Imagine this is the most irritating experience and we all so disappointed and walked out the hotel....

No commitment... No hospitality.... No customer service...

Visited JK with friends. As with the JK outlet in perungudi this one is also crowded but restrooms are neat. We ordered mutton biriyani, kothu porotta, veg biriyani and i took veg meals. The service was by a very very courteous man. A lil inspiring even. Veg meals was very good. It includes good variety of dishes with veg biriyani also. The curd they served is the thick one which is my preferred kind. Their payasam was wholesome. Very rounded filling, satisfying meal. Kothhu porotta was also very good. Veg biriyani was spicy so have it lots of curd. They happily gave us extra curd to go with it. No extra charges.

Went here with family for a quick lunch before catching up a movie. Ordered non veg meals, chicken biriyani and mutton biriyani. All the items were served pretty fast and everything tasted really good. The mutton and chicken pieces in biriyani were soft and flavourful. Sambar was excellent.

This is my second review for Junior Kuppanna, but first for this branch. Have been to their T.Nagar and Velachery branches before and liked the food. I am a great fan of their chicken leg fry. The taste remains unchanged since the past few years and it's still my favourite dish in this place. We went there on the new year day, so it was immensely crowded. I insisted on a 2-seater table since I wasn't willing to share the table with others, so had to wait for about 20-30 minutes. Despite the crowd, the service was pretty quick and the food was also quite good. But the chicken biriyani was not as tasty as before. This could be due to the overwhelming crowd, but then it wasn't bad either. My wife ordered a vegetarian special meal, which was very good.

The bad thing was the fish smell which came from the rasam and appalam. Probably, they used the same oil to cook fish as well as fry the appalam. Otherwise, no complaints. But I wish the management takes this seriously and do not repeat such thing in future.

Most of the people told " Junior Kuppana" Oh my god its costly and waste for that- instead of that we can go to another restaurent- Once i went to 'JK' in Forum mall after late movie around 9 i assume - The service was really good for our table- Again am telling for our table only :-)- When i normally look around the others in the restaurent expect the person who is serving for us - all others are chatting busily about their own stories. Our table service person were really awesome ( I forgot his name ). The food we ordred was differnt my parents like it and my son like it and i had meals wowow:-0 unlimited meals non veg seripously i liked Fish cury and mutton curry. Nice guys i like only this outlet may be i have not tried other outlet lets see :-)

Really a pathetic experience over here , Serviecs is really worst of all . I can't an Ambiances over here , opened 2 months back but still electric lines are hanging around .

We have ordered 3 plates of mutton biriyani , chicken 65 , Nalli gravy and Mutton Chuukkaaa, beriyani was ok ok but the other two side dishes was not even up to the Mark.

Service is really worst here no one there to pour water us , even the water jugs where empty..

Ambiances- 0/5
Taste - 1.5/5
Services - 0/5
Value for money - 1/5
Taste wise its a good place. But people working there doesn't know how to serve. If you order chapathi with gravy, then Chapathi will reach you immediately and the gravy will reach you after 15-20 mins from chapathi.

If you going with family which makes one chair unused then they will make someone else to sit there. They do not want to lose any revenue but yes for customer.

Overall Poor. Not Advisable. You will lose your mood.

Taste : 3.5/5 ; Ambiance : 3/5 ; Service : 3/5 ; VFM : 3/5

After a movie at the forum mall I was planning to try salt restaurant...but my wife was quite adamant in trying out Junior Kuppanna..though I like the food here the high prices for comparatively low quantity keeps me off this place..but had to give in and try out the place...

Located right next to the food court of the forum mall its a very small dining area to seat just 30 odd ppl..seems a bit cramped to me..the service is quick and prompt but the behaviour kind of puts you off..

Ordered a chicken biryani and a mutton biryani and a chicken boneless chukka to go along with it...The taste of items as usual was great with high food quality..the chicken biryani was good with tender pieces and perfectly spiced biryani...the mutton biryani was best of the lot with awesome flavors and was sure more oily than the chicken one thanks to the fat from the meat...the chukka was just mindblowing...lipsmackingly good with perfect spicyness..

Total came 660rd odd with taxes...definitely high for the quantity but for the taste definitely worth a try..

Junior kuppana is always my favourite for authentic South Indian food . Having visited this place for lunch on weekday , I must say the taste of the food was not upto the standard , somewhere I felt some taste was missing .. Ambience was decent ,located in the forum mall ..

Coming to food , what we ordered :
For starters-

Kola urundai - two pieces of Kola urundai was sumptuous ... Yummmm!!

Ordered mutton biryani (samba rice )- it was normal .. Didn't like much though ., to accompany with we ordered kongu naadu chicken dry - which was my fav and relished each bite of it.,☺️

Also we ordered fish pallipalayam which was oil free .. Chunks of fish pieces boiled and cooked perfectly .. Taste wise it was good ..

Overall food was good except biryani part ..,
Good service.

Food standard was not upto the mark comparing the other outlets ..
Total VFM.. As it costed 770/- only for two .

A pale shadow of a real Junior kuppanna restaurant . They just seem to be running on standby items. I am sure they don't know what a real pallipalayam preparation could taste like.Idlis were looking real awkward. Fish pallipalayam was pathetic. The veg garlic gravy served with idli was awesome.( a must try)Egg kothu parotta was not bad. Don't visit this place if it is gonna be your first experience at Junior Kuppanna as this particular branch is a spoiler. They don't even have a separate menu for the restaurant. Not worth the money

visited JK at Forum Mall after shopping. The staff were very courteous and welcomed us with a bright smile and even offered to look after our daughter while we have our dinner.
We ordered, naatukozhi soup, chicken lollypop, chicken chukka, 2 chicken biriyanis.
soup was hot and spicy but had only bones. would have been better few pieces of chicken was there.
chicken lollypop and chicken chukka was very nice.
Biriyani was also good. chukka added as a nice side dish for the biryani.
Over all, a good meal. But they can improve their quantity a little more for the price charged.

Already I had a worst experience with this hotel @ Anna Nagar with the taste & cost. Yesterday my father took us all to junior kuppanna @ Vijaya Forum Mall. Heavy crowd was there. So we booked a table for 6 of us and was waiting more than half an hour. When we got a table my father sat in one chair. Immediately the waiter came and told to get up & said another group was waiting & u wait for another table. But we told we came first & booked the table. He and a girl in front desk didn't hear us and made as to get up. We feel ashamed in front of other customers. Then we left the place. No hospitality & manners in Vijaya Forum Mall junior kuppanna. We have decided not to go to any of junior kuppanna hereafter.@

Very disappointed with the food.Headed to this place on a weekend for a lunch but the experience was horrible.Felt lyk dy serve d worst biriyani in chennai.Though the Quantity was less still I wasted half of it.Not worth the penny dy charge too costly aswell. Its me and my friend our personal xprince and not sure about how others feel abt dis place.

Ambiance was good though the room space was less. Food quality was good and their biriyani tasted awesome as always. Tried kola urundai there but it was not upto the mark.

They should think about the quantity. Plate in which they serve the biriyani is not sufficient even to half-fill your tummy, Customer service also can be improved.

As a suggestion, since it is located inside a mall, they can offer a cut in parking ticket.

Having a urge to have biryani for dinner on Friday is routine for me and frndz. What's better way to welcoming the weekends. That's how we ended up here which was long on my wishlist. Finally coming to the review the place is more like typical south Indian restaurant nothing fancy , service was quick I mean really quick we could finish the dinner and get back to office on time "without exceeding the brk timings" The food:we ordered mutton biryani, mutton and chicken chukka. The biryani was oily but bonless mutton extra brownie points for that, taste was nothing to hype just a simple biryani. Both the side dish mutton and chikken chunks tasted the same apart from the meat in it. The quality was good but the quantity was less for the price as comparative to the competitors of the same category. The conclusion is give a try if u want real quick service of average tasting food with high price.

Junior Kuppanna is a pure south Indian restaurant which mainly provides Chettinad dishes. The signature dish of this restaurant is pallipaalayam chicken.
I went there with my family for lunch after watching a movie in palazzo, forum mall. I usually don't like having food in food court, hence I decided to have my lunch at JK. We ordered one chicken biryani, one mutton biryani, one non veg meals, fish 65, chicken pallipaalayam and chicken leg piece fry. My favourite ones among these dishes were chicken pallipaalayam and fish 65. I would recommend this restaurant to those who love eating south Indian food, especially Chettinad food.

Went with friends for the first time. I've never been to any restaurant with so much of non veg smell around. Being a pure vegetarian it was a task.

Tried the South Indian meals. Good one. Nice varieties and taste.

Junior Kuppana
Vijaya forum Mall
Vadapalani

If one wishes to understand a cuisine; Its necessary to understand from where it comes from and its geographical properties; the sore culture of the place gives the exact characteristics of the food.
Kongu nadu which is the exact region where this cuisine of "Junior Kuppana" hails from is a perfect example of the rich cultural influence and it's rich history.

History for this region has an exotic mix ... Roman coins were once unearthed from this region where trades have flourished in the Noyall river; there is lot more than just that and the invention of so many influential recipes are definitely a by product of being a place which eats and breaths hospitality.

Chennai connection : Junior kuppana-There were few times I visited them for the seeraga samba biriyani and convinced to say that they are the best in that category; they have been consistent and even the sides have been the same. And of late the franchise is popping every pin code in the city of chennai, the latest one to call catch my eye is at the Vijaya Forum Mall, located at the third floor just above Salt, it's kinda the smallest JK in terms of seating arrangements; The kitchen looked like it could give the luxury hotel kitchens a run for the money, it was clean and almost all of them worked with gloves and head gears.

The order : we were already stuffed with Popcorns and the pop soda; we wanted to have it light to the tummy!!

The Kari dosa : thick Oothappam with an healthy topping of Mutton shredded masala, which had a peppery note and some shallots succulently mixed, beaten egg was topped to prevent it from crumbling, the whole blend seemed to work well with flavours and textures all working in an harmonious fashion; The accompanying gravy was flavour all over, with two chutneys and a thick thokku it was pleasing to all senses.

The onion Oothappam: pretty much for basics and well supported vegetarian accompaniments.

The chappati's were soft and even my kids complimented their soft nature.

Chicken lollipop : not the usual it's similar to 65 crispy ones no sauce, tasted on the blander side of the palate.

VFM: The service was exquisite asking us time and again about how the food was?
550 bucks as we were pretty light on the tummy.

Verdict : JK still impresses me with their philosophy and cuisine, barring few glitches at some other locations this one is by far the second best one.
