Everything is served on fresh banana leaves. The staff here are extremely friendly. The person who looked after our table was Mr. Saravan Kumar. We asked him what is special in Mysore masala dosa and whether it contains garlic. Because of some communication gap (as he is from bihar) he didn't understand our question and we decided to try it out. Once the order came we got to know Mysore masala dosa is smeared with garlic paste. In my family all are allergic to garlic. Hence we told them the problem. Several staff came immediately and cleared our table without making any fuss and gave us fresh order. Finally we told Mr. Saravan Kumar we will pay for the Mysore masala dosa too. But he just didn't accept it and very politely refused it saying customer priority is of top most concern. The friendliness of these staff members really made our day.

Last week I was in Chennai and hot to experience different variations of sambars and chuntneys. Out of all, this place became my best take away joint. The flavour of sambar was too good, the chutneys they serve were also flavour some. I got to try out their various other dishes from the menu item. All were too good and I must commend on their packaging, it was the best from all the other places I tried!

Completely disappointed with Murugan idli shop delivery. Twice many items went missing. When we call noone picks the call as well. Zomato provided compensation but proper delivery would be more beneficial. I am blaming the restaurant for not checking the items before delivering.

This is my first time here ( i know !) and as soon as I opened the door, i felt like i was stepping into 1980s ( in a good way). Set up was simple and they laid out the banana leaf as soon as we sat down. We had podi idly, paneer dosa, sakkarai pongal, normal idly and loved everything. Chutneys were decent and so was the sambhar - they refill everything from time to time. Service was courteous but rushed due to the crowd. Bill was approx 300 which was a really good deal for a restaurant of this quality. Looking forward to trying other dishes here.

Softest Idly I ever had. Don't miss the combo of the chutneys, all three (spicy, medium,normal) and the traditional coconut chutney. Plain Dosa was crispy and delicious. Prices seems to be little higher but it's worth value for money.

One of the best restaurants serving south indian delicacies in chennai. I tried ghee podi idli, ghee dosai and jigarthanda. All the delicacies were really tasty and healthy. I loved the packaging. The food quality is very good. Podi Idly is a must try option and also Pongal. Good place for a proper South Indian breakfast. Food is a little overpriced and ambience isn't very cozy. The place is often crowded. They charge extra for Podi also. Overall, a nice place to have a nice breakfast!

While the place is simple in its setup, the food is impeccable in taste. Food is typically served on banana leaves here & eating by hand is the norm. Highly recommend the Podi Idlis served with sambar & 4 types of chutneys. The idlis are super soft & fluffy, literally melting in your mouth. The taste is out of the world & frankly, it's the best that I've ever had! Also, the Filter Coffee is super frothy & worth the hype. PS: Podi is a course powder with a mixture of ground spices like dried chillies, urad dal, chickpeas, salt & sesame seeds.

The idlis are the best from this place but costs like 20 a piece. You may get cheaper ones outside but the taste wouldnt be same as this. One of the softest idlis along with the crispy dosas make this place a must visit. You will get at least 4 different type of chutneys too. You get to eat in traditional way on a banana leaf and in case you are not comfortable you can ask for spoons and other utensils, they haply oblige. The service here is very friendly. In case you can't visit them definitely try for an online order.

I had my breakfast delivered from here . We had ghee podi uthappam , podi idly and panneer butter masala dosa. Taste wise, it was great. Package was also different as they used leaves to do it. The taste remained intact. I was fully ready to give them 5 stars for delivering such delicious food early in the morning ... But then I found some plastic pieces in my food. Which was just upsetting. I am guessing this doesn't happen often with this restaurant. But I could rate them only according to my experience.

Review of Meals... I have been to Murugan idli shop for breakfast and dinner. But never tried their meals so much expectations I have ordered meals. I have attached the pictures of the items. Some items were missing. Avial ( as mentioned in the menu) was not given. Pickle is not there. Instead of Curd they have given neer moor ( very thin buttermilk). Too little quantity of kuzhambu and other items were also less. Look at the quantity of the rice. Even after emptying all accompaniment half the rice was left. Even if we want to have the rice there is nothing left. Do they expect us to eat plain rice???? Murugan idli shop is always costly but tastwise it will be too good. But MEALS TASTED BELOW AVERAGE. Ordered one sambar rice also. Even that is not tasty. Would never order from Murugan idli shop Again.

Actually I tried many times in Sangeetha and Saravana bhavan hotel so far. So for change I tried here by zomato Online delivery. I ordered One Ghee Dosa and Podi Idly , Actually there is no difference what we ate in other veg restaurant same taste only they are providing. But the taste is like our home food and side dishes are same like a Home chutney and Sambhar. So I liked the masala Ghee dosa and Podi idly also superb here. But the cost is too high for single ghee dosa they are charging 100rs and Podi idly for 32 rs (1 single podi idly). Its too high for single dosa and idly.Murugan Idli Shop + = Like a home food , Packing , Sambhar and Chutney is tasty.Minus = Cost is Too high and Not more dishesSo overall food is Superb and tasty one , We can try one time. When it come to extreme typical south indian breakfast then you go none other than Murugan idli!!!...The way they serve,their menu,their chutneys and podi's and their varieties,if one ever wishes to try typical authentic south indian style food then Murugan idli it is!!!.. Great service and quality of food..The one thing I don't like about this place is their quantity.Its almost 25-30% less serving than what one gets in A2B or HSB.. Quantity is a big let down here.One should order 2 dosas to have their stomach full .besides that it's amazing!!! Last but not least their tasty Jigarthanda ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

After hearing and reading about this place so much I planned to visit with my family when we were on a trip to Chennai.. This place offers authentic South Indian food served on banana leaves.. We tried Idly-Sambhar, Masala Dosa and Unlimited Meal. The meal comprised of Sambhar, Rasam, Dal,Steamed Rice, Aloo Bhaaji, Papad, Coconut Chutney, Tomato Chutney and a couple of more chutneys. Food was nice. Hospitality was also nice. It is a very simple place not too fancy. Overall it is a good option to enjoy authetic South Indian food.

My constant orders in any murugan idly kadai is a rava dosai and a couple of ghee podi idlies. Rava dosai - Thin, crispy, melt in the mouth type accompanied with the yummiest of sides Ghee podi idli - signature stuff. Soft idlies smeared with gracious amount of ghee and podi. Loved it. Service was good PS: I could notice many ppl ordering jigarthanda here. Being brought up in a place which is couple of minutes from the original 'famous jigarthanda' in madurai, I could say, the variant here is no where close to the original one.

Tasty food, made famous over the years... Decent ambience, decent service and not overly expensive. A place visited by all kinds of people - to indulge in pure veg south Indian fare. Expect some bit of waiting time during peak hours. Finding the place won't be a challenge, but parking can be since this is located on the main road and flyover construction is ongoing. Go there with family and friends or just alone, you'll relish the food for sure. One may need to go at least 2 - 3 times to savour the entire menu, but if you already know what you want, you will find it easier to place your orders!

Murugan Idli has stood the test of time. After almost 10 years, I had food from Murugan idli and the taste is still the same. As good as the first time I had from a different outlet of theirs. I had podi dosa and a plain dosa along with nice hot coffee. Love their sambar and chutney taste. Not to forget the podi. The staff today was very friendly and considerate. Love them for giving attention n care to every customer. Absolutely yummy food and I am sure to visit often here now that I am in Chennai.

Welcome to the place of un-hygiene and the rude staff. Here the serving staff don't care about food or the customer but about themselves. The meals get finished at 1 PM and they don't care to ask what you need. The chutneys are so pathetic that you cannot even eat the one they served. Their preparations are fresh and always served steaming hot. Kudos! Their ghee roast dosa, poodi idli, and normal idli are a must try. The cheese paniyaram is okay. The chutney aren’t impressive. Only the white coconut chutney is good. The rest are just to fill space on the banana leaf. Also the sandbar is okay. The service needs to be more polite and customer friendly. Please treat non Tamil speaking people like you do to Tamil speaking people.

The best tasting idlis in the world, that's my word for their delicacy. Prepare yourself to queue for a few minutes if you are going for dinner and you have to very patient. I was a solo traveler in Chennai, waited for a few mins to get a table as arranged by the staff at the door. Very courteous people, did their best to provide best service despite of high peak crowd. The Podi idly, butter dosa and the Jigarthanda milk - These are Exceptional. All thumbs up. Moreover its a feel when the food is served on banana leaves and do try the filter coffee too.
