75 rupees (1.1$) meal was so satisfying in taste, quality and quantity. Bharathi writing & rare pics were cherry � on top.
I stayed in chennai for Internship for 2 months.. Bharathi mess is my oly goto option for food whenever im in my room.. food was like home away home taste.. hygiene at its best.. reasonable cost.. efficient working pattern.. Being an MBA student.. i cld see many of our mgmt principles applied in their operations. Was went awestruck for the first few days of my visit to the mess.. Keep going.. Greatness and laurels ahead.. catch it soon... All d best..

Located in one of the small streets of Triplicane, I was told that this is an age old place, started by a huge fan of Bharathiar. The place felt very authentic, with a simple menu and minimalistic interiors. So minimalistic that they felt the need to completely avoid any chairs! All you have to do is stand cozily on one of the tables mounted to the wall and be satisfied with every bite you take.
Just like a fast food restaurant chain, you have to order before and pay upfront to get your items and then you self serve. There are no need for waiters and thus; the limited space is all ours to stand and feast.
Had plenty of dishes as we went as a gang of 5 and we ordered chapathis, masala dosas, adai aviyal, vazhapoo vada, etc. Felt very much like home food and loved every bit of our dinner.
Fun fact: the lavish menu is printed on the walls outside and you know what’s available when you see clothing-clips stuck on the side of the line item (picture attached)
Will definitely visit again and an easy 5 star for the cozy, delicious and hot food they serve!
Have been here before 5 years. The taste was really good, the shop in Triplicane was very small but the food tasted really good.
Tried meals... nice taste for the money we spent.. 70 plus rs..
i expected something exceptional as many gave reviews by word of mouth..
but sambar and rasam i found it a bit salty..

Wanna try food devoid of any artificial colours & authentic tamilnadu cuisine just head to Bharathi mess which is tucked away in by lanes of triplicane. The property is small and little cramped decked up with the photos of iconic tamil poet subramanya bharathi and shelves filled with his literature.
Tasted the following items:
Vazhapoo vada (made with banana flower)
Dosa
Veg noodles
Bonda
The winner is vazhapoo vada fried to perfection when had with the 3 varieties of chutney will sure win the hearts. Even the noodles are made of wheat but too much of oil put me off. My only complaint is cramped space, which makes life hell during crowded times. Other wise this one is a must try for a peek into tamilnadu cuisine.
The quality of food they give is very good.But there is not even a chair to sit here.Also the prices of exorbitant for a hotel with no chairs.Parcel is recommended.For bachelors can try this hotel once in a week.

Awesome food, every thing that is served here tastes fantastic. Idiyappam - Thenga paal - Fantastic.. The best part is, the food is prepared without any food additive, preservatives, colour or any artificial taste enhancers.
One of my all time favorite restaurants. Usually I opt for take away as the mess is small in size and the crowd will be more. If you want to try a healthy, homely food, GO FOR IT.

Yess.. Place is very small and the special thing about the mess is "They care for you".
They are not using Ajinomoti,Best healthy foods and they do prayer for our healthy three times a day! Doesn't it surprise you.
These type of ppl still exist and they do it in the name of 'Bharthi'. A big salute to all of them.
They have good menu with healthy items.
Place is very small and you have to self service and eat while u stand.
No big place for parking, just located inbetween the streets.

If you profess to be a foodie in Chennai & have not yet visited this place then I say, do without delay. Outstanding quality in simple veg food. Coconut chutney is as authentic as they come. Place is hole in the wall. But, don't miss. Filter coffee is a must have. Ragi idiyappam with vada curry, idli, pongal & veg meals. Hugely satisfying.They have a small neat place very close to Kapaleeswarar temple, Mylapore, also. If you are thinking about visiting then understand that prices are like that of Saravana Bhavan....

Very small clean place. Rice served covered in small utensil to keep it hot. This did touch my heart. Meals at 110 parcel was very good. Do try if you seek simple veg meals which was quite tasty. It's located on a small street where you could find parking for a bike. Plan well.

This is situated in Akbar Sahib Street in Triplicane. Opppsite side/rad of Bus stand. Few other branches are also there in other places. I have been to this mess so many times. It is such a quality mess much better than many hotels. Since it is a mess, chairs will not be there to sit and eat. A few years ago, they limited sambar or any side dishes to a cup or so, the quality was so good at those times. No extras at all. But that quantity was enough. When they started to provide extra sambar/other side dishes, the quality came down. Also when they started to provide many varieties too, the quality which was early didn't be there nowadays.
Mostly, women work here. Not connected to Bharathiyar anyway, thinks so. But bharathiyar related information will be posted on the walls.
In the limited space, all tables are properly arranged, and a few washbasins and food were served properly.
Price will be a little higher than other normal mess or hotels, but quality will be better.
Availability of an item can be known outside itself when a clip is there against that item.
Will not affect the stomach in any way as they don't use artificial items in the food.
Nowadays they have started serving. This is a mess where you can have food all three times without any fear of stomach issues.
Always a memorable place and will eat there whenever I go to that side.

What ever in the menu will be fantastic and hygienic
In 2016 it's a self service with affordable price
But, now they serves and price also increased compare to other hotels
But, taste and quality of the mess remains the same
My suggestion is cost cut the price by 10 - 20 percent again introduce self service it will be beneficial for bachelors and daily eaters.

One of the best Veg meals which I had in recent years,for rs.110/-. after 1 hour touring beach with my family in morning was hungry at 12pm googled near by hotels spotted this mess which was nearer,no expectations very small space in mess but the rice well cooked hot serving sambar Kara kulambu rasam all on table really superb,2 types of kootu fantastic and with one poriyal , served one Vada ,ragi kolkatai small one,appalam, finally the curd was really awesome i didn't know rice was limited just had the curd in glass to drink which was good, could have served a small quantity of rice at last.only one con to serve only one person was available.
Excellent dishes. I went evening 7pm after tiffen items available at that time especially I am fan of coconut chutney. now they are renovated in A/C
Bharathi mess is one of the safest and popular eateries in triplicate area. The traditional tamilnadu vegan meals of Bharati mess is superb. There will be big crowd always and you have to wait almost 10 minutes. Its a stand and eat or take out restaurant with limited space. There are no chairs. But for the quality and taste its very popular in that area. The pricing is very reasonable if not cheap.The Bharathiar songs on the background is a highlight. When you finish your meals you will be satisfied i can assure you. This is one of the best option for breakfast too. Hence i recommend this hotel with five star.
