Here they having Novelty special dosa oh my god wonderful taste its one side orange layer with full of podi and onion and another layer damn looking green colour of mint chutney serves with sambar and coconut chutney. Surely peoples wanna try this.
Novelty tea house is one of my favourite lunch spot in sowcarpet. The first big task is getting a seat in that restaurant. There will be a big bunch of people waiting outside the restaurant during lunch hour. We almost waited for half an hour, then we got seats for dinning. We ordered pulao, panner butter masala, naan, pav bajji, chats, falooda. And everything was sooo good. They cooked everything in pure ghee. The smell mesmerized each one of us. Even their curd raitha was so thick and creamy. We even ordered 2 raitha's alone. They even have various snacks and savories. Overall it was worth the wait experience. But be on time or you'll miss their hit dishes.
So this place is a bit hard to find coz it's small and has only limited seatings available.
They have a wide spread of menu and is very pocket friendly.
This place serves the best pav bhajji and bhelpuri.
They have so many varieties of pav bhajji 💕 should try more.
Malai kofta was lit.
I had my heart for the tawa pulav it was super yum.
Had nice time will surely visit again.
This is the oldest Novelty outlet having a rich history associated with it. They began operations in the small by lane of Sowcarpet way back in 1952 and have well and truly served delightful food over the years since.
I was here in Sowcarpet for some dry fruit shopping and then for lunch decided to do this place. At once I ordered the Pav Bhaji which was riveting. They are just evergreen and provide a whole layer of bhaji to go with your bhaji. It was a lovely masala mix subdued by a dollop of butter and it was such a delight consuming the softish bread buns with this juicy gravy.
Other than this, I ordered one of their recommended items Pure Ghee Aloo Tikki. This was done up really well with the tikkis being very crispy and smudged over with oodles of curd. The presence of curd didn't hinder the crispiness and it proved to be very tasty. Ended the meal by ordering a cheese molagapodi onion dosa. This was again jaw dropping. The mix of the cheese and red powder with onions for that extra zest worked wonderfully well. To be frank the chutney and sambhar were just an add on and you could very well have the dosa standalone.
The prices are pretty reasonable and the service is quick. It may not be the most cleanest place around but if you're willing to get down and dirty with great food, Novelty should certainly tickle the taste tongues. Not often do I get a chance to come by this neck of the woods and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the fare on offer.
Novelty tea house is a traditional north Indian shop with varieties of mouth watering quick bites. Been there for a while and fell in love with 'Sambar Idly' which made us to double back the order. Chat item( gol gappa) did not meet the level. Over all we enjoyed what we had :)
I was in mint street, being lunch time decided to have in popular Novelty tea House. Easy to locate, landmark by itself. No comment about parking since everyone know it's almost impossible. Ambiance is simple and decent. Bit cramped and crowded place. Service is decent but speed can be slightly improved.
Ordered Mini limited lunch and Jeera masala soda. Mini limited lunch consist of masala chaas, 3 butter phulka, panner butter masala, Chenna subji, dal, rice, rasam and gulab jamoon. Buttermilk was short of salt. But for that it was good with boondi topping. Butter phulka was excellent. It was softer and butter level is spot-on. Panner butter masala is awesome. Panner was so soft which one can keep on eating. Chenna subji was tangy, not that great for us. Dal was thicker and tasted good. Rasam was ordinary. Finally jeera masala soda, which was decent.
Pricing is reasonable considering the quality / taste. Value for money 💰. I will be revisiting for sure.
This place serves one of the best pav bhaji in the chennai. Loved it ❤
It was raining these days in Chennai got struck near novelty sowcarpet, so me and my friend went to have some thing so went inside and ordered tawa pulav , Onion uttappam and rose falooda. It was really do much delicious and best place to have paav bhaaji .. it's a small place but with awesome food...
The best place to have pav bhaji! The most exciting part is a spoonful of butter on the bhaji ♥️ a small place with very delicious food 🙂
Slightly heavy on the pocket, but the rates are at par with other places in Sowcarpet.
Pav bhaji is a must try. They offer all permutations of pav bhaji with cheese, kadak and masala pav, starting from Rs. 110.

Taste of food is good. We ordered pani puri, pav bhaji, paratha, sandwich, jamun. All were good and felt little costly.
There is nothing better than eating chats in these places. Oh man, how do we describe it. Crowded Street, busy shop and long wait time makes this place more special. To describe about the chats we ate, simply worth it coz there is nothing much that we can say about this place and that adds value to it. #The best!!!!

Novelty is where good old taste trumps atmosphere and ambience and all that jazz. Located right in the middle of Chennai's bustling wholesale market is the place which probably serves the best ghee phulka in the entire state. Maybe a hole in the wall but iconic nevertheless. Must visit for good vegetarian North Indian fare, and some very good milk shakes and chaat items.
They serve lip-smacking pav bhaji here. It has authentic north-Indian flavour. You get to choose from different varieties like cheese pav bhaji, special pav bhaji, special masala pav bhaji etc. I found the cheese varient very tasty. The pav are also roasted in butter. Served with onion and lemon pieces. Quantity is good. It's a small restaurant. Usually very crowded at evenings and dinner time. The kitchen could have been more cleaner. But it's worth visiting for the taste. Also tried rasmalai. Overall, it's a must visit for pav bhaji lover.
Crowded places with 15 minutes waiting time. Served good food within 10 mins of order. Can go with friends at one fine evening.
Must try their pav bhaji and the tawa pullav. Their location is a big minus. You can't drive their, you will have to park else where and walk it. It's in the one of the most crowded places. But then when you eat their pav bhaji you tend to forget all the minus point.
Food:
Cheese toast masala sandwich/Veg toast - A spicy aloo filled medium sized sandwich generously loaded with wholesome cheese; crispy and toasted well and sealed on the edges; not too spicy but was good with the green chilli/mint dip
For the veg toast the filling was predominantly peas and mashed veggies, pretty much the same taste without cheese
Aloo tikki - A sweet/spicy plate of potato cutlet dressed with sweet yogurt all around; the hint of chaat masala alongside the sev was perfect
Fried idly - Deep fried idly which was almost like crackers; totally new flavour along every bite with the familiar taste of idly as stuffing, GOOD
Mix paratha - A mixture of all veggies stuffed in to make any tummy full. With the sweet Malai kofta and the Paneer tikka masala, the paratha was too good.
While Malai kofta had lots of creaminess to it with saturated flavour along every Kofta, the tikka masala was mildly spiced. The paneer was well cooked but on the whole both the masala tasted the same (creamy, sweet and full of rich flavours)
Hot chocolate - This is chocolate Horlicks, No more comments!!
Ambience/Price:
Legendary spot staying strong ever since 1999. The street would always look crowded and messed up on any day but this shop provided a whole new setting on the inside which is contrasting.
While the prices were much affordable with decent service, the biggest minus was the parking spot and their small seating space. Yet, for a shop to survive so many years in the same spot, KUDOS to this place.
*Personal rating would be a 4.5
A never disappointing place in Mint Street, Sowcarpet. Wide range of menu starting which includes, Chat, Sandwiches, Dosa, Breads and Sides, Desserts.
Their service is impeccable and they've been here since the 1960s.
10/10 for me.
Amazing menu! The items on the Menu are yummy and unique too. It is a very small place and mostly very crowded in the evenings. You will have to wait long to get seated. The price is slightly on the higher end given the place is too tiny and the waiting time is high.
Been a regular to this joint. A super delicious menu options in veg. All items are awesome. Today we had pudina dosai , pav bhaji , Dahi papdi and Jamun ice cream .. must must visit place
