One of the most inexpensive and elegant sea food experiences you'd come across in the city. What caught my heart at first was the 'fresh off the boat ' area where they exhibit the freshly caught fishes and you could get to choose one from there for a dish if a feasible choice.
Also the dishes off the menu were also equally interesting, powered by an authentic south tamil Nadu scent. This cuisine is definitely gets you craving for more, hands down. Had a strong urge to strom the place back again but had to leave Chennai because of the lockdown.
Also wait, unlike the usual souvenir with the bill they serve you with groundnut candies ;)

Taste : 4.5/5 ; Ambiance : 4/5

After my usual January break i did get back to eating out and what better place than Sea Salt which has been in my wishlist since its opening..Though their kari soru and Prawn pepper fry were the items which i wanted to try i was here to experience the Pulicat Seafood Festival happening from the 31st of Jan to the 2nd of feb..This is done is Collab with Chennai Kalai Theru Vizha and InSeason Fish...

Unlike most festivals that happen just to attract crowd this is a one with a difference..Done with a noble cause to create awareness for protection of Pulicat wetlands..We had a nice chat with Nityanand Jayaram and Chaitanya who talked about the danger these areas are facing and also the need to save our fish resources..

Enough of the cause now lets come to the food..The Menu is designed By Chef Harish Rao in Collab with fishermen and the women from pulicat region..The Recipes are regular house old ones which are presented as it is..And the Catch are from the Pulicat lake only...

We did try the Non Veg Thali - Pulicat Seafood Thali priced at 595rs..Given below are the details about it..

We Started of with a yummy Nandu rasam in a small cute tumbler..The Rasam was spicy and peppery and some thing a sore throat will be thank full to..The generous crab pieces in the Rasam were an added advantage..

As starters there were some lip smackingly good prawn Vada...A bit tangy in taste but loaded with aroma and perfectly fried..

Next item was the Yera Karakal Which are basically small prawns cooked in loads of sea salt and spices..Served with the skin it was one of a kind experience..

Lady Fish Fry : A typical fish fry but one thing that stood out was the freshness..Easy to eat due to the delicate meat..

Mackerel Puttu : A different fish puttu for a change...Loved this one thanks to the well cooked mackerel meat..The taste was really good too..

As the Main Course there was a tasty Prawn Biryani which i liked very much thanks to its subtle flavoring..The Aroma was mild and had everything i love in a biryani..

The Gravy section had three distinct ones in the Form of Pulicat Meen Kozhambu, Meen Mitha/Bitta and Nandu Masala..Option to pair it with White Steamed rice each gravy was better than the other..

The Meen Mitha/Bitta is a usual thing cooked in my home and here it was decent to say the least..Fried fish is tamarind less gravy..Juicy and fresh fish here too..

The Pulicat Meenu Kozhambu was something i loved the most in the Thali..With a fresh fish here too in a yummy gravy..Paring it with white rice and the puttu was a bliss..Recommended..

Nandu Masala was good too..With a spicy and peppery masala..

Prawn Pickle was also served and let me tell you that this was best i have ever had..Loved this so much that we asked if they retail it..

Some sides on the Thali were a Pudina Chutney and Brinjal Chutney and the Onion Raita..

The Thali also had a Rose flavored Kheer..Too good..I had subtle sweetness with aptly flavored..

There were separate desserts in for of Payasam which was a supposed pulicat variant of the kozhukattai payasam..Decent one..Finished off the meal with a Banana..

IMO this thali was completely worth it..The Festival happening till the 2nd of feb is something worth trying for the yummy food and the noble cause..There are also some musical performance on these days..so book your tables right away..

As for me i loved the food and definitely visiting again to try some more items for sure pretty soon..Will update once i do that..

The Sandy's team has a clear winner. Could not get enough of my dinner here. We were welcomed with some complimentary sweet pongal (since it was pongal) and chose a 1.2 kg northern red snapper from the display. The fillets were pan fried with their uthukuli butter sauce (made with pepper, curry leaves and sambar onions). It was absolutely brilliant. The head and tail was used in a meen maanga curry. The curry was packed with the flavour of the fish and the raw mango with some heat and generous julliened ginger. We ordered some appams to go with it that were flawless. Even their Nannari sarbat was a class apart. If you have kids, they have a coloring set to help them pass the time while your fish is lovingly prepared. And they even hang up the drawings for them to come back and see next time, and I assure you, there will be a next time.

I wish that it was a wheelchair accessible location and I hope its successful enough to move to a place like that.

Forever wanted to go here and finally had the chance. If you love home cooked meals, just close your eyes and go here. You'll thank me later. Such yum soulful food.

Located above Sandy's in Knk road, this is a very simple place that looks classy and comfy. They specialize in sea food, so they have live counters from where you can select you own and they'll make it into a scrumptious meal.

Coming to the food, we ordered green chili chicken for starters. It was outstanding. The taste was so good. Must try.
Then we had parota and nei roast chicken. Another must try for sure. The parota was super soft and the chicken's flavor was mouth watering.
For rice we got Era soru. This is their version of prawn biryani. Again, another must try. So flavourful and perfectly spiced.
In addition to this we got one omlette and kalaki. Both tasted good
For drinks, the nannari sharbath and Buttermilk are a must. Both tatsed excellent.
And for dessert we ended with elaneer payasam. Takes you straight to heaven. Perfect amount of sweet. Must try again!

Pricing is a bit on the high side for the quantity they give. That's why I've given 4 stars or i would have definitely given a 5. But for the quality and taste, it's worth it.

Service is super friendly. Special mention to the Akka who works there. So sweet.

100% going back again to eat more.

Bon appetite :)

The seating is simple without too much of detailing. The staff welcomed us with a warm
Smile and helped with recommendations for the food. Everything was good except for the squid, it wasn’t as fresh as expected. The top picks is the parotta, madras fish curry and the pepper prawns. Overall a good place for South Indian sea food lovers.

After my friend suggestions I have visited here with my wife for lunch. We ordered kalakki, karichoru, plain rice and prawn thokku. The ambience, staff, and servings are up to the mark. The cleanliness and hygiene needs a special mention. They kept every section clean including washroom, wash area and kitchen.
Complimentry sundal was good. The curry rice and kalakki also super tasty. The prawn thokku tastes more like tomato tokku. The prawns flavour not enough in the gravy, I expect the masala was cooked and kept early. Just add prawns and make in to a prawn thokku after the order......just guess....
Any way, the kadala muttai is super addicted at the end.
I have only one suggestion here, the price is high for the quantity they serve. As per Zomato for two, costs 500 and that is impossible if you order even with 3 course meal.........400 rs for curry chorus = 🔪.

Fresh and sustainably sourced fish that's in season. Delectable food. The ambience is neat and bright. There's a counter that has the catch of the day. You get recommendations, but make sure you are comfortable with the pricing per 50 or 100 gms. Menu is small but has a good spread to choose from.
In pictures - Kari choru , parotta with prawn thokku, fish fry.

A nice place to have some good seafood. We had the prawns briyani which was nice, the sarbath was pretty good too. The groundnut candy at the end was a nice touch to the overall experience of the place. Will definitely have to go back to try out the other dishes...

The restaurant is located in Nungambakkam, Chennai (very easy to locate, use your google maps). We walked into this beautiful space with wooden furnishing, natural light hitting the room, good music and the trees swaying with the wind (and dancing to the music?). There’s something about spaces with natural lighting, they give you the positive vibes. As we kept walking, on the extreme left, there is a counter where you can choose your live seafood and the cooking style (No! The restaurant doesn’t smell of seafood. I was surprised too!). And if it’s your first time with exotic seafood, the team is extremely helpful – and trust me their choice turned out to be the best. We chose a small lobster to be grilled and few jumbo prawns to be deep fried. Next to your seafood display is an appam counter where the akka makes different types of appam. Friendly smiling waiters showed us to our table. As we sat at our table, they served lemon juice (a complimentary drink), to increase our appetite as if we weren’t already hungry after all the wonderful aroma at the restaurant! You can also choose different types of sodas! You have your plates with banana leaves (the hot food absorbs the flavors and nutrients from the leaf, which is supposed to be super healthy for the body). The menu is very limited, doesn’t run for pages, they don’t boast their skills with too many things but have an excellent choice of items that are classic South Indian favorites and legendary. My family has been cooking seafood and other non-vegetarian items with home ground spices for generations now and we’re all avid seafood eaters. So we know our food! And we walked out of this restaurant with heart and tummy filled with joy! These guys know what they are doing, not just with seafood, but every item on their menu!

Sea Salt knows the value of sea food. This restaurant has fishermen working with them. All the masalas used here are fresh. Made by the fisher women according to the restaurant's specifications.

Great Food. A No Nonsense Simple but curated menu. Though a fully seafood restaurant they dont have random cuisine choices. Its a fully South Indian reataurant. Almost all items tasted good. Best was Crab, Kari soru, Fish gravy, egg appam, parotta and Nannari Sharbeth. Decent Portion size. Do visit if u wanna have a good south indian seafood dinner.

Wonderful place for fish, crab and lobster varieties. Good place fon veg fish, crab, lobster eaters. Also biryani as kariaoru, chicken / fish food items like manchurian , 65 available. Pros: If we order when we enter restaurant, we can choose alive lobster, crab and recently purchased iced fish on table. They will prepare the fish dishes and serve in 20 to 40 minute after ordered. Cons: 1.for vegetarian people, food options are very less. 2. Need to include more fish varieties to choose. 3. Chicken Mutton eater may be little disappointed due to that particular varieties
