Though the name sounds different, the taste of foods in hotel rainmaker made me feel like home food. The best thing is we had a get together arranged in this hotel and we were allotted with separate room which fitted 10 of us with all privacy to enjoy and have fun with lot of laughter. Some of us opted for weekend buffet and some for alacart. Both the services were quick and friendly. Most of all it didn't pinch our wallet. The desserts served were awesome. Totally we had a blast with good hospitality and it proved that the good food need not come only from branded restaurants or famous chefs.

I stay right next to rainmaker and till date never got the intuition to try it. But because of the heavy rains couldn't go anywhere so decided to go here and it was one of the best choices I made by far. The ambience very subtle and service was excellent. So for starters I tried the vegetable kebab platter. It was really tasty. And for mains we ordered the Mexican garden fresh sandwich and the pasta with Arora sauce. The sandwich was beautiful and unexpected and so was the pasta. Overall a must try for all those who want to try a twist in veg food at affordable prices.

Pure veg hotels get out numbered easily. Though we have well established veg hotels, they are stereo typical and got nothing new to offer. Having read the reviews from zomato about rainmaker, I thought I would give it a try.

LOCATION (4/5):
Located at Trustpuram, near to the busy Arcot Road, finding this restaurant is easy. Two wheelers can be parked easily, while four wheelers have to be parked in adjacent streets, but won't be a challenge.

AMBIENCE (4.5/5):
It is a residential building converted into a restaurant. But having said that, I really liked the interiors. Lighting too is very good, neither too bright nor too dark.

FOOD (3.5/5):
They have south Indian , North Indian and Chinese cuisines on offer, we tried mostly the north Indian, hence review is based on what we had. The starters were excellent. we had a veg platter and chilly baby corn, both of which were too good. Quantity was also decent enough. For main dish, we had nans, Kulchas, along with panneer tikka masala and dum aloo gravy. The taste was good and portion sizes were decent, if not great. For dessert we had a brownie with hot chocolate sauce and royal falooda . Desserts were very ordinary and requires lot of improvement. If the desserts were gud, I cud have given 4/5 for the food.

SERVICE (3.5/5):
Service was decent enough. Waiting time for food was reasonable, and crowd was less, since it was a weekday. So can't really comment on how it would be on peak hours. But I feel staff's general awareness about the food can be improved upon.

VALUE ( 4/5):
The pricing is very apt , I am very satisfied. Gud value for money, as food and ambience was good.

VERDICT:
a good veg restaurant. Overall I would give 4/5.
Desserts need improvement though!!

Though kodambakam has a number of restaurants , rainmaker has been my favorite veg restaurant. All the food varieties they serve are good. Afternoon thali meals for rs.93 is very good and u get unlimited rice with a number add-ons . Other naan, khulcha and south Indian varieties are also very good

Really good food. A lot of variety. Would have been better had food been warmer. There were two soups and both tasted decent. The cream of tomato was a bit sour and the noodle soup was good. The starters were a bit bland but the tandoori aalu tasted decent. There was dosa topped with "molagai pudi" which tasted decent. There were three gravies for naan and roti. All three tasted really very good, but we're too oily. The paneer tandoori gravy could have been a aalu tandoori gravy and the tandoori aalu could have been a tandoori paneer. There were 3 main courses. Veg pulao, spicy tomato noodles (sour! For the tomato lovers :p), hyderabadi biriyani (which could have been better if it had been a bit more warmer) and they had 2 side dishes, raitha and Manchurian ball gravy. And the list goes further. There was *dates gothsu*, I did not taste that, and pasta (had olives and I love olives) that tasted fine with tomato sause. They had a new dessert. An Andra delight. Forgot its name, it was awesome. It had cream over toasted bread with toppings such as nuts, pomegranate etc and it was very tasty. Ice cream and three topping sauses and cut vegetables and fruits. A lot of variety indeed. Tasted very good. Right amount of salt and pepper and vinegar sauce to mix.
Coming to ambience. A flat has been refurbished to have a great dinner place. Not to forget their service, they delayed a bit to get the bread crumbs. But there is nothing to complain.

Final score

I haven't tried the south Indian food here. I just came twice for the burger and the chopsy alone. But I was informed both the times that burger and pasta were not available which was disappointing. The other dishes aren't bad however. The soup and veg platter tasted good. The American chopsy was average. But the Chinese chopsy was really good. The Food takes a bit long to arrive, but the staff are very good natured. It's a fine veg restaurant. The ambience is serene and makes a great place for family get-togethers and calm meetups.

12 of us went for the buffet for a birthday treat. We were given a separate room with a big table and a couple of smaller tables. The privacy was good and we didn't have to worry about disturbing the other customers with our noise. The buffet hall can get slightly cramped if more than five people are present at a time, but it's bearable.

The buffet spread had the standard North Indian dishes plus a few South Indian ones. Special mention to the Mulligatawny Soup, which felt good for my sore throat. The Garlic Fried Rice and Peas Pulao were good and went well with the Dal Tadka. The noodles was not hot enough. The Chilli Baby Corn was good, but the Chilly Gobi was slightly more oily.

The highlight was the dessert. Toasted bread with custard on top, sprinkled with tutti-frutti. It was great and you can easily have 4-5 pieces without feeling overwhelmed.

Final Verdict: Worth every rupee for Rs. 239. Would have given a 4 if the food had been warmer.

Kodambakkam does not have any noteworthy restaurants to offer other than some non veg food joints. But its changing rapidly with the entry of Saravana Bhavan recently. Rain Maker has been for quite some time now. With a name as odd as with its location too , i was a bit skeptical when my friend suggested this place. Located on a residential complex along with IBaco, this looks like a family friendly restaurant with some nice interiors and paintings. We ordered Shangai Fried vegetables, Gobi Manchurian for starters, Veg Mughal Briyani, Naan and Panneer Curry. No complaints . Evrything was cooked well and felt home made . But desserts were a huge disappointment. Carrot Halwa was bland and Gulab Jamun was not soft in the inner middle part. Service was ok . Nice place for Veg lovers to check out. Bill came to around 900/-. Reasonable enough.

Okayy.. here we go.. sday i received promotion on job (guys just snr officer 😉) i want to give first treat to mom bcoz she is the one pray 24/7 for my growth. Least i can do for her is to make her free from kitchen one day... As i penned earlier my mom purely veg so wenever i want to hangout with mom i should choose pure veg hotel..

Being friday she had lot of pooja work so she want to make it nearby.. here where our zomato plays predominent role.. As if im hermonnie i swing my magic stick with my words and found 2 km away thr s a restro which named as "rainmaker"..
With the help of our Mr. Google map we reached thr (by walk frds took hardly 20 min as i love walking dragged my mom along with me for walking)..
So Location it pretty easy for me... But one can easily miss out if u not seeking the help..
Coming to the ambience- Not much to talk abt.. its simple.. Not much of attractive one. Im least bothered to take look.. My mom was wondered abt the lord vinayaga was asked to take a pic (which i posted below)

Service - Thanks to paneer sir from theni who made us comfortable.. being friday i dnt find any difficult to get seated.. it hardly four to five people wen we were dine it.. But even though dishes reached to us was very late we have to wait for 20 min to take our first order.. That too main coarse reached us first instead of starter.. My mom kept on asking "you said rainmaker, so r thy waiting for the rain to pour before serve us".. After 20 min walk we were super duper hungry.. And my mom felt even food is not hot den y they serve so late.. My mom atleast got the person lyk paneee sir who talked all time while waiting for food.. myself as usual our wats app(god saver, time killer watever u call)..
Now u question me y this stupid lady gave 3.5 pts after so much flaw.. here wr my food comes..
I dnt knw abt others but if anybody want to pamper me and want to makes me smile and happy food is the only way...
Starter - veg platter- this is want comes after the main coarse.. I lyked the taste.. More or less same taste as we had in yellow chillis which is more costly than this.. - rs 160
Main coarse - Had hakka noodles (myslef) silky smooth.. i just loved it.. - rs 140 and North Indian thaali (mom) was also good but only -ve s thy served normal rice instead of basmati - rs. 140..
Dessert - By this time i was full but my mom want to try their falooda - rs. 130.. I dnt go for second try... not much impressed..

Overall rs. 300 per head and returned with big smile on face.. Tummy full.. Paisa vasool..

Would i recommend to my frds.. yes for sure.. Planning for weekend buffet..

Rainmaker had been in my list for way too long. Visited them for dinner yesterday. The place is easy to find.Yet another apartment renovated into a restaurant. They have 3 rooms with tables and one buffet space. The ambiance is decent enough. The walls are adorned with paintings by a kid supporting a charitable trust.

Our orders were for the baby corn chilli, bharwa mushrooms, cholam dosa and pepper and chilli pasta. The starters were good and mushrooms were stuffed with Paneer and grilled to perfection. The accompanying mint sauce was yummy. The cholam dosa was delicious with 3 chutneys and awesome sambar. They serve 2 dosa's which makes u stuffed. The only low point was the pasta which was served bit uncooked. We had to send it back for replacement.

The service was okay and the pricing is normal. They have a buffer priced 239++ for Saturday night and Sunday morning with a decent spread too.Would like to try that sometime. Overall a good experience!

Wanted to try something different so checked this place. It's on the 3rd floor of a residential building but the place is good ambience doesn't feel awkward. Tried the Cholam Dosai which was really different and nice. Babycorn chilli and salt n pepper mushrooms were awesome. Babycorn satay was spice n feel too much masala added. The Chinese is definitely worth trying.

I would call this a new generation restaurant, one that would depend on websites like Zomato to call for its fame. An apartment converted to a restaurant located in the third floor of a secluded place. Without the banner, you might not even know that there is a restaurant there.

I went to try once, and came to know the lunch buffet was just for Rs 120. The food felt homely, and except for the stale crispy fried vegetables, I felt the rest was upto his mark. The ambience was fantastic with light music in the background. On a weekday afternoon, it was simply crowd less.

It had the typical south Indian 3 course lunch meal, Naan and a North Indian dish and a pulav. The veggies were as good as what my mom prepares at home. Not a bad choice if you have forgotten to cook lunch at home.

Rainmaker is a place that caught my eye as I was crossing the Chandra Bhavan junction, Trustpuram. They had a hoarding outside with "100 rupees lunch buffet!" This seemed like an incredible offer and I decided to check it out one day.

This restaurant is on the third floor of the building with an extremely claustrophobic elevator. Frankly I expected the place to be like an ordinary street shop. But I was pleasantly surprised by the ambience. Classy red brick walls, beautiful cultural paintings on the walls, and quite spacious.

We were served tomato soup, after which we proceeded to the buffet. It was a great spread: Gobi fry, roti, paneer subzi, biriyani, raita, plain rice, rasam, appalam, chips, curd rice, mango pickle (traditional manga ooruga with kutti kutti mango pieces and kadugu, too yummy) and finally kesari. More than satisfactory lunch for 100 rupees.

I wanted to try a la carte. So we went there again for dinner another day. There are a variety of menu options, and the food taste is quite decent. But I would definitely recommend taking the lunch buffet over a la carte. (There's no dinner buffet, only lunch).

Service is prompt and courteous. The best and most delicious buffet deal you can get for such a cheap price.

The price was reasonable and the overall bill was 893/- nett, Overall I recommend this place for Veg lovers :)

Location
Not on the busy main roads. Tucked a little inside and operating from an apartment building. Poor parking as we had to park on the road itself.

Ambience
Compared to the outside decor the Inside was a world apart. Nice art works hung around. Air conditioning was the right level. The furniture was apt not too flashy or bad.

Service
Just the right level where they are available when required and don't bother us asking us about the food etc. which is something that bothers me but something that the new restaurants are trying to copy.

Food
The starters (panneer tikka and spring rolls) were excellent and so was the soup (cream of mushroom). With high expectations set, the main course was a bit disappointing. Both the gravies (kadai mushroom and dal makhani) that we ordered were average and so were the Indian breads (butter naan and rumali roti). The Cauliflower noodles was ok.

Prices
It was not exorbitant but at the same time not too cheap. Thing that needs to be kept in mind is that its a relatively new restaurant so prices could change over time.

Verdict
Definitely worth giving a try for pure veggies at a decent price (at least for now).

A proper veg restaurant at kodambakkam. Phew!! it took a long time for that to happen! Rainmaker is at trustpuram. Easily accessible but thr is no proper parking facility. The ambience is pretty warm with dim beautiful lighting and cozy seating.
We were super hungry but took some time n ordered in such a way that we tried a dish from almost all the available sections (they had a big menu)
Ordered a dragon potato n a machurian veg balls for starters. Both were pretty average. The veg balls were a bit over fried so tasted a tad bitter.
For soup it was spinach n coriander soup and manchow soup. The former's consistency was watery but the taste was good . latter one was better in both consistency n taste.

Then we ordered a Alfredo fusili past. From chinese it was a fried rice and a chilli baby corn gravy. Then an onion kulcha, a laccha paratha and kadai vegetable from N. Indian!

Coming to the best part of the meal :D
Desserts :) we ordered simple scoops of choc, butterscotch and FRIED ICE CREAM :D The fried ice cream was in yhe form of one big ball instead of tiny ones. It was fried to perfection n was so yumm!!
Got to mention this, the staff were very courteous n the service wss pretty fadt but they lacked the knowledge. Didn't really have an understanding of what is what or what was available :/

Such reviews for a restaurant I've never heard of! A big place, quietly nestled in kodambakkam. A little tough to find, but well staffed and neatly maintained. They've a big menu, surprisingly.
Let me be quick about it: their decor is very warm and welcoming. Their staff are courteous.
Food: Big menu, availability is a little question. Their starters were average, kadai vegetable was too peppery and the rotis were average again. The Chinese, fried rice and chilli baby corn gravy was nothing special.
So why the good rating?: FRIED ICE CREAM (check the photo)
And also their soups and pasta are very good for a decent price.
Go for it, for a quiet well deserved slow nice meal.

After seeing good reviews in zomato, I decided to visit this restaurant with my mom for Sunday lunch. They have both ala carte and executive lunch buffet. Buffet is very basic with indian dishes. Ambience is great. A duplex house has been changed to restaurant and the staffs are polite and responding quickly.
I opted for buffet as it is in offer . We can have the buffet for just ₹100 bucks which is very very reasonable. Coming to food the soup they provided was malli which is outstanding. Perfect blend of spices.
Starter was crispy veggies which is good but bit oily. Methi naan is soft and the aloo in spinach gravy is out of the world. Biryani is good with medium masala . I don't like noodles so I avoided it but heard it was good. When it comes to south indian sambar is too good and rasam is ok. The rice they provided is boiled rice which gives u strong boiled rice smell that I didn't like. My suggestion is please improve the quality of rice. I don't know why they added loads of cabbage in their food today. I am not complaining that but there are people who doesn't like cabbage. Again curd rice is too good.
Don't expect welcome drink variety of salads ice cream etc as this is exe lunch buffet .
My suggestions to management :
Please improve the white rice quality and provide some mouth freshener at the end of meal.

PS: There is no designated parking space. U have to park your bike or car in nearby street. They don't provide bill(for buffet) so don't ask for it :P

Verdict : A very good restaurant for veggie lovers. few improvements shall make this restaurant to grand success .

This is one of the few fine dining restaurants in this locality. It's easy to spot since hey have a huge board which easily catches people's attention. Even though the building looks old, the interior of the restaurant looks Morden.

The ambience here is pretty good. The place well light, music playing, temperature controlled and quite. One would be at ease here.

The staff were very friendly but dint know much about the dishes. Their service was also pretty good.

Considering that the place only serves veg, they actually a big menu so you have a lot to choose from. We ordered Bharwa mushroom, chili potato fry, panner butter masala, schezwan manchurian balls gravy, naan and hydrabad veg dum biriyani. The bharwa mushroom were amazing, well marinated and stuffed with sautéed onions. The panner butter masala Would have been amazing if not for the excess sweetness. The other dishes were equally good, would have been more good if not for their generosity in use of oil.
The menu is priced at a reason rates.

To sum up. I'd definitely to go there to eat their bharwa mushroom again.
You should try it. It's really nice.

Went for dinner with my family just to give it a try since there was no Pure Veg restaurants in and around Kodambakkam for a while. Firstly, the ambience was excellent. You wont find it from outside (Its located in the third floor of a complex). So, as soon as you enter the ambience makes you feel that you have entered some barbeque restaurant. Secondly, the food served was excellent. It was tasty and delicious. We started with soups and then went to North Indian (Naan & Paneer Paratha with Malai Koftha & Barwah Mushroom) and then the ice-creams. All of them were excellent. Infact, we ordered Burwah Mushroom after seeing many people suggest it in earlier reviews. Third, the service was excellent too. The staff were polite and we didn't wait too long to get our items. Overall, one satisfying Sunday Dinner with family which will be cherished in my memory for a long time. (I'm writing this because I rarely come to meet my family as I work elsewhere).

P.S. We got 10% off on our total bill. :) I'm not sure why!  So, if you visit them, do give it a try by asking them! :P

Food Quality, Ambiance is excellent, especially loved their Barwah Mushroom. Excellent service... It is probably one of the few vegetarian family restaurants in Kodambakkam which keeps up to the standard. Love it !!!

Great food and great service. Loved the experience! :) Do try the Barwah Mushroom Masala-a new twist to the mushroom. You might find some dishes a little too oily for your liking so specify beforehand if you would like less oil. Nice ambience.

For the vegetarian lovers. With excellent interior, qualitative food served with utmost hospitality is a really different experience. Of course at a reasonable price resulting VALUE FOR MONEY. Really enjoyed the dinner.
